Would you consider your city to be a particularly lonely place to live?

Being alone is not the same as being "lonely." The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "Lonely" as "being without company," "cut off from others," "not frequented by human beings," "sad from being alone," and "producing a feeling of bleakness or desolation." Some people enjoy existing without company for long periods of time, while some are only happy when they are surrounded by others in a social setting. A situation only becomes "lonely" when you feel sad, cut off, bleak, or desolate, as mentioned above.

24/7 Wall St. listed the loneliest cities in every state. Not every individual in these particular cities are lonely, rather it is a collective reputation.

According to the list, the loneliest city in Nebraska is Lincoln.

Here's what 24/7 Wall St. had to say about compiling the data to discover the loneliest city in each state:

"To find the loneliest city in every state, 24/7 Wall St. used Census Bureau data, ranking 384 metro areas by the share of nonfamily households living alone out of all households. We added the share of people living alone as a percentage of the civilian, noninstitutionalized 16+ population. All data, including monthly gross rent and bachelor’s degree attainment rate, came from the 2022 American Community Survey either one-year or five-year estimates. For some metro areas that span several states, we considered the main state, though the statistics are for the metro."
