After teasing new music with mysterious billboards around the world, Billie Eilish has announced her third album is on the way. But there's a twist — she's not releasing any singles ahead of time so fans will have to wait until it drops to get a feel for her new project.

Eilish made the announcement on Instagram on Monday (April 8) that her third studio album Hit Me Hard and Soft is coming May 17, a follow-up to her 2021 sophomore album Happier Than Ever. She also shared the stunning cover art which sees Eilish sinking underwater into the dark blue depths as an open door sits just above the edge of the water.

"so crazy to be writing this right now i'm nervyyyyy & excited," she wrote.

While most artists start promoting a new album by sharing various singles, Eilish revealed that she is taking a different approach, writing, "not doing singles i wanna give it to you all at once." According to a press release, the album is a "diverse yet cohesive collection of songs" that is best listened to from beginning to end, which perhaps adds even more context as to why Eilish decided against releasing any singles.

The "Bad Guy" singer is once again teaming up with her brother and collaborator FINNEAS on the highly-anticipated project, writing the album together with FINNEAS as producer. According to the release, the album "hits you hard and soft both lyrically and sonically while blending genres and defying trends along the way."

"finneas and i truly could not be more proud of this album and we absolutely can't wait for you to hear it. love you love you love you."

Hit Me Hard and Soft drops May 17.
