Finding a place to settle down and call home can be influenced by a variety of factors, with price arguably being one of if not the most important variable for many families searching for their forever home. While homes in some major cities come with a higher price tag, there are plenty of nearby towns and suburbs that won't be as hard on your wallet.
According to a list compiled by HomeSnacks, which analyzed census data on home prices, rents and incomes, the cheapest place to live in Wisconsin is Merrill, a small city in the middle of the state with a median home price of $180,411, median rent of $703 and median income of $48,378. Here's what the site had to say about the most affordable place to live in the state:
"Merrill is known as the 'City of Parks,' so you'll never be left wondering how to entertain yourself free of charge. Merrill boasts the ninth cheapest homes in the state, and the absolute lowest you'll see on this list, with a median price of $180,411. Even more important, though, is that Merrill's median income is $48,378, meaning there's nowhere in Wisconsin where you'll spend less of your salary on your home."
These are the 10 cheapest places to live in Wisconsin, according to HomeSnacks:
- Merrill
- Wisconsin Rapids
- Shawano
