2024 Olympics Day 8 Results: Biles, Ledecky Make History Again

Gymnast Simone Biles and swimmer Katie Ledecky once again added to their historic gold medal tallies during Day 8 at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday (August 3).
Biles, 27, the most decorated American gymnast in history, won her third gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics during the women's vault final with a score of 15.30. Brazil's Rebeca Andrade took silver with a score of 14.966 and fellow USA teammate Jade Carey took bronze with 14.466.
Biles became the oldest gymnast in history to win the women's individual all-around final on Thursday (August 1) and first American to ever the win twice, having previously won the all-around during her Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
Ledecky won gold in the women's 800-meter freestyle Olympic final for a record fourth consecutive time, becoming the first female athlete to win four gold medals in the same event. The 27-year-old finished with a time of 8:11.04 with Australian Ariarne Titmus placing second at 8:12.29 and American teammate Paige Madden taking bronze with a time of 8:13.00.
Ledecky is the the decorated American female swimmer in Olympic history, having won 14 total metals, including nine golds, a record among female athletes, since initially winning the 800-meter freestyle at the age of 15 during her international debut at the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Washington, D.C. native had previously won gold in the 1500-meter freestyle on Wednesday (July 31), silver for Team USA in the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay on Thursday (August 1) and bronze in the 400-meter freestyle final on Saturday (July 27).
Trinity Rodman scored the game-winning extra-time goal to advance the United States Women's National Soccer Team to the semifinal round of the Paris Olympics on Saturday. The USWNT defeated Japan, 1-0, after Rodman scored in the 107th minute of play.
The 22-year-old is the youngest player to ever score an extra-time goal for the USWNT and has scored three goals in the first four games of her Olympic debut. Rodman, the daughter of Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, scored the United States' first goal in its pre-opening ceremony 3-0 win against Zambia and in the 43rd minute of a 2-1 Group B stage win against Australia to advance to the knockout round on Wednesday (July 31).
The U.S. Men's Basketball Team also advanced in their ongoing tournament following a 104-83 victory against Puerto Rico in the the knockout round. Anthony Edwards recorded a game-best 26 points, along with three assists, three rebounds and three steals off the bench for the Americans. Five other Team USA players -- Joel Embiid (15), Kevin Durant (11), LeBron James (10), Jayson Tatum (10) and Anthony Davis (10) -- scored in double figures.
American Sha'Carri Richardson took silver in the women's 100-meter track final on Saturday Richardson, 24, who won gold in the same event at the 2023 World Championships, finished behind Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, having also finished second behind Alfred in the semifinal heat earlier in the day.
Alfred, the 2024 World Indoor Champion, is Saint Lucia's first Olympic gold medalist in history. Richardson was suspended for one month by the United States Anti-Doping Agency after submitting a sample that tested positive for THC metabolites indicating cannabis use, which prohibited her from competing in the 100-meter at the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Games in 2021. The former LSU standout could have competed in the women's 4x100-meter relay, however, was not selected and missed the Tokyo Olympics entirely.
