USA Basketball Advances To Knockout Round At Paris Olympics

The U.S. Men's Basketball Team cruised to a 104-83 victory against Puerto Rico to advance to the knockout round of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday (August 3).
Anthony Edwards recorded a game-best 26 points, along with three assists, three rebounds and three steals off the bench for the Americans. Five other Team USA players -- Joel Embiid (15), Kevin Durant (11), LeBron James (10), Jayson Tatum (10) and Anthony Davis (10) -- scored in double figures.
Tatum recorded a game-high 10 rebounds. James, who is playing in his fourth Olympic tournament, recorded a game-best eight assists.
Team USA had a 49.4% to 39.8% field goal advantage over Puerto Rico, despite being out-rebounded 51 to 48. The Americans faced a 29-25 deficit after the first quarter, but outscored Puerto Rico, 39-16, in the second, and 23-14 in the third.
Team USA has won all three of its games by double figures and is currently the top-seed entering the knockout round. The Americans have won gold in men's basketball in each of the past three Olympic tournaments since placing bronze in the 2004 Athens Games.
