BTS member Suga is apologizing for his "negligence" after a night out in South Korea ended in a fine and a suspended license.
Suga recently had a run-in with law enforcement when he rode home on an electric scooter after drinking alcohol while out to dinner in Seoul this week, per People. An officer reportedly saw him lying on the ground after falling off the scooter and gave him a breathalyzer test that indicated a blood alcohol level above the 0.08 legal limit, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency. He was booked on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act into the Yongsan Police Station and questioned by police before he was released.
The 31-year-old musician addressed the situation in a lengthy post shared to X (formerly Twitter), with another account sharing a translated version, apologizing for "disappointing" fans and taking responsibility for his actions.
"I am sorry and (feel) very heave hearted to come to you like this, after disappointing you," he said. "At last nights dinner, after drinking, I went home on an electric scooter. Because I had been drinking, I did not realize that using an electric scooter after drinking was against the law, and violated the road traffic law."
He continued, "I fell by myself in front of my home while trying to park the electric scooter, and a police officer that was nearby performed a breathalyzer test where they suspended my license and a fine was imposed."
Suga, who is currently completing his mandatory military service as a social service agent, said he would make "no excuses" and take responsibility for his "negligence" while pledging to do better in the future.
"There were no other persons or establishments damaged during that time, but it is my responsibility to bow my head and apologize (to you) with no excuses," he concluded. "I'd like to apologize for my negligence and wrong behavior to all those whose my actions have hurt, and will be careful with my actions to make sure that things like this do not happen again."
BTS' record label BigHit Entertainment also issued a statement apologizing for the "disappointment caused by" Suga's "inappropriate" actions.
"As a social service agent during his military service, he is prepared to accept any disciplinary actions from his place of work for causing a social disturbance," the label said.
