Rob Schneider addressed Elle King’s remarks about him in a clip from an upcoming interview with Tucker Carlson.
Carlson asked the actor and comedian about his daughter, singer-songwriter King, after her recent conversation with Bunnie Xo on the Dumb Blonde podcast. King spoke with Bunnie Xo about “what really happened at the Grand Ole Opry performance that went viral, Dolly Parton's kind words that helped turn things around, and how she started her journey of healing and self work,” in addition to “the fun and the challenges,” that came with growing up in the spotlight with a famous father, per the episode’s description. King alleged that Schneider sent her “to fat camp” as a child and forgot her birthdays, among other remarks.
“I was a really, really heavy child, and my dad sent me to fat camp. Then I got in trouble one year because I sprained my ankle and didn’t lose any weight — very toxic and silly,” King said, in part. “My dad forgot every single birthday.”
in a clip shared on Instagram on Wednesday (August 14), Carlson referred to King’s remarks as a “family tragedy playing out in the news, your daughter going after you,” as he began the interview with Schneider.
“It’s fun being a parent, isn’t it?” Schneider said with a laugh. He went on to say: “Well, I want to just tell my daughter, Elle, I love you and I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed. Clearly I wasn’t, and I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely. I love you entirely. And I just want you to be well and happy with you and your beautiful baby [King’s son], Lucky. I wish you the best. I feel terrible, and I just want you to know I don’t take anything you say personally.
Carlson then asked how hard it was for Schneider to not make excuses or to fire back at his daughter when she publicly “attacks” him, to which Schneider answered: “If you love someone completely — I love her, all I want for her is to be happy and to heal from this.” Carlson noted in his caption when he shared the sneak peek of his conversation with Schneider that the full interview will be available on Thursday (August 15).
King has not addressed her father’s interview as of publication time.
