Gena Rowlands, famous for her roles in The Notebook and Another Woman to name only a few iconic films she's fronted, passed away at the age of 94 on Wednesday (August 14).

According to People, the storied Golden Globe and Emmy-award winning actress struggled with Alzheimers in the years leading up to her death and spent her final moments surrounded by loved ones at her home in California.

Her son Nick Cassavetes shared a handful of tributes to his Instagram story, citing condolences and appreciation for silver screen masterpieces and unforgettable tales that the legendary actress seamlessly delivered during her time in Hollywood.

Rowlands was known for taking part in productions with her loved ones as she starred in GloriaA Woman Under the Influence, Opening Night, and Minnie and Moskowitz (among an additional seven films) with late husband John Cassavetes (who passed away in 1989), and even worked on The Notebook with her son Nick in 2004.

The acclaimed actress married retired entrepreneur Robert Forrest in 2012 and the pair remained wed until her last breath.

The lovely Rowlands is remembered not only for the classic films she gifted fans across the world, but by son Nick, daughters Alexandra and Zoe, (all of whom she shared with Cassavetes), and Forrest.

Rest in peace, Gena Rowlands.
