Ed Sheeran is mourning the loss of his friend Liam Payne, following the star's sudden death in Argentina on Wednesday (October 16).

The "A Team" hitmaker took to Instagram to share his thoughts with Payne's family and loved ones, drawing attention to the sheer "heartbreak" attached to the tragedy aside a black-and-white photo of the "Strip That Down" singer.

"At a loss for words. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones, every memory I have with him is a great one, just such a heartbreaking situation."

Sheeran closed out his message by encouraging followers to "be kind" as investigations proceed and new information surrounding the icon's death is uncovered.

Payne was pronounced dead after a fatal fall off a third-story balcony at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires that resulted in very serious injuries including a cranial fracture and internal and external hemorrhaging.

Liam's family, former One Direction bandmates, and a slew of fellow artist who've either worked with the star or encountered him throughout his career, have offered touching tributes that highlight his infectious energy and caring nature.

The standout is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear, older sisters Nicola and Ruth, and parents, Geoff, and Karen Payne.
