Penguins Star Evgeni Malkin's Home Burglarized, Stanley Cup Rings Missing

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin's three Stanley Cup championship rings are reportedly missing after his home was burglarized over the weekend, CBS News Pittsburgh's Jennifer Borrasso reports.

Malkin's championship rings, which he won with the Penguins in 2009, 2016 and 2017, were reportedly stolen from his Sewickley Heights home during the incident, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to KDKA-TV. An alarm system and cameras installed at the home were reportedly down and a safe was kept open at the time of the burglary.

A 911 call was placed hours after the Penguins' 5-0 home loss to the Ottawa Senators, which was played at 4:00 p.m. that same Saturday (January 11).

Malkin was inactive for Saturday's loss due to an injury, but returned to the Penguins' lineup for a 4-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Monday (January 13). An Allegheny County Police Department spokesperson confirmed that an investigation into the alleged burglary was launched and investigators were seeking any information regarding the incident.

The Penguins said they "will have no further comment on the matter" in a statement to CBS News. The alleged burglary is the last involving a high profile professional athlete following three separate recent incidents at the homes of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, as well as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, which were reported hours apart.
