OutKast & Salt-N-Pepa To Be Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

OutKast and Salt-N-Pepa are among the class of 2025 for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Ryan Seacrest announced the inductees during ABC's "American Idol" on Sunday, April 27. The historic all-female rap group consisting of Cheryl "Salt" James, Sandra "Pepa" Denton and Deidra "DJ Spinderella" Roper will be honored with the Musical Influence Award. The award is presented to artists "whose music and performance style have directly influenced, inspired, and evolved rock & roll and music impacting culture." Meanwhile, Big Boi and André 3000 of OutKast will be inducted in the performer category after they were nominated for the first time.

This is the sixth consecutive year a Hip-Hop artist has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Last year, A Tribe Called Quest was finally inducted into the coveted Hall of Fame along with R&B singer Mary J. Blige and iconic band Kool & The Gang. Missy Elliott, Eminem, JAY-Z and The Notorious B.I.G. were also inducted over the past few years.

The Class of 2025 also features other legendary artists including Cyndi Lauper, The White Stripes, Soundgarden, Bad Company, Joe Cocker and Chubby Checker, whose song "The Twist" was a global phenomenon in the 1960s. Checker had been eligible for the honor since 1986, but had just been nominated this year for the first time. Other nominees who were not selected include Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Oasis and Mana. All inductees are eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after their debut commercial recording.

The class of 2025 will be inducted during the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction this fall. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Saturday, November 8, at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
