Megan Moroney's 7-Year Journey With Kenny Chesney Leads To New Perspective

Megan Moroney sat in section 312 when she bought tickets to a Kenny Chesney concert in May 2018 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Seven years later, the reigning Country Music Association New Artist of the Year wrote a duet to sing with him. Moroney announced on Wednesday (April 30) that she’ll release a collaboration with Chesney, “You Had To Be There,” on Friday, May 9. She wrote in her caption as she shared a 25-second sneak peek on TikTok: “7 years later got a different point of view...”

Moroney shared a screenshot of her 2018 concert ticket order on Instagram, along with a snapshot of herself standing on stage with Chesney when she joined him on his headlining stadium tour last year. Chesney said in the comments, ”as far as I know this is the first song anyone has written for me . Thank you Megan. I love ya 💙🌴”

In the midst of her headlining “Am I Okay? Tour,” Moroney is also part of the star-studded lineup of the 2025 iHeartCountry Festival, which is slated to take place on Saturday, May 3. The festival, hosted by iHeartRadio’s Bobby Bones, will return to Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Other artists in the lineup include Brooks & Dunn, Cole Swindell, Rascal Flatts, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, Bailey Zimmerman and Nate Smith. Smith and Moroney will also perform at the free Daytime Village, taking over the Dell Technologies Plaza from 12:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. CT. That lineup also includes Matt Stell, Tucker Wetmore and Dasha. Dasha will also appear on the main stage at the iHeartCountry Festival, iHeartCountry recently announced.

Hulu will be the Official Streaming Destination of the festival, with performances livestreamed exclusively to all Hulu subscribers at no additional cost. Additional information about the livestream will be posted across Hulu’s platform and social media channels.
