Chris Brown has been arrested by police in the U.K. on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The "Residuals" singer was taken into custody while he was at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Thursday morning, May 14. Brown is accused of hitting music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle of tequila during an incident at a London nightclub in 2023.

“The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on Feb. 19, 2023," Metropolitan Police told The Sun. "The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”

The altercation reportedly occurred at The Tape nightclub in London on February 19, 2023. At the time, Diaw claimed Brown hit him in the head several times with a bottle of tequila. After his knees buckled, Diaw alleged Brown punched and kicked him while he was on the ground. He sought medical treatment at a hospital after the alleged unprovoked attack and claimed he needed crutches to walk while he recovered. Diaw filed a lawsuit against Brown for $16 million following the incident.

"He’s making out it was one of his entourage but it was him," Diaw said in 2023. "I’ve spoken to the police and they hope to resolve the matter soon."

Brown hadn't been back in the U.K. since the alleged incident occurred. He reportedly flew into Manchester Airport on a private plane on Wednesday afternoon. After discovering he was in the city, The Sun reached out to police and asked if Brown was under arrest. That's when the authorities met Brown at The Lowry and arrested him. The outlet said Brown was taken to a local police station for questioning.
