Miley Cyrus is opening up about how her fame affected her siblings and the complicated era of her life that left them "humiliated."

The Something Beautiful singer appeared as a guest on the June 9 episode of the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast where she shared how the ups and downs she experienced throughout her career not only impacted her own life but the lives of her siblings, per People. Cyrus, 32, has five siblings: Brandi, 38, Trace, 36, Christopher, 33, Braison, 31, and Noah, 25.

According to the "Flowers" hitmaker, it wasn't always easy being related her, especially during the era of her 2013 album Bangerz. The project included her single "Wrecking Ball," the music video of which featured her swinging nude on a wrecking ball, and led to her scrutinized 2013 VMAs performance where she twerked with Robin Thicke.

Cyrus called that era a time where she "got hit so hard," causing her to feel "so embarrassed." The feeling seemed to extend to her family as well, noting how hard it was to look her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, in the eyes and "not feel super embarrassed."

"There was even a time where my brother and sister didn't want to go to school because of how humiliated they were to be related to me," she said, adding, "I remember my brother at one point he was saying, 'I don't judge you, but you could understand how hard it is for me to go to school, and you be my sister.' I was a hard sibling to have as a little girl, so I was like 'All right we're even.'"

The "Walk of Fame" singer reflect on the "really hard" effects of that era, noting that the choices she was making at the time also had an impact on her personal life outside of her family.

"I lost everything during that time in my personal life because of the choices I was making professionally," she said, adding that it also applied to her dating life. "If I kept dressing or acting a certain way, my relationships fell apart. No one wanted to date me because they didn't want to be with a woman [whose] sexual expression part was not for them. It was like shared with the world."
