MLB Prospect Luis Guevara Dead At 19

Baltimore Orioles infielder prospect Luis Guevara has died at the age of 19 from injuries sustained in a jet ski crash in Sarasota, Florida, on Sunday (June 15), the team announced on its official website and social media accounts Tuesday (June 17).
Guevara, a Venezuelan native, was signed by the Orioles as an international free agent and appeared in 30 games during his first year in the United States, which included 24 with Single-A Delmarva, four with the FCL Orioles and two with Double-A Chesapeake, having spent the last two seasons with the team's Dominican Summer League affiliate the DSL Orioles.

Two watercrafts reportedly collided head-on during the fatal accident. The Orioles announced the postponement of their Florida League Complex games on Monday and Tuesday (June 17) were in relation to Guevara's death.
“Luis was a beloved member of our organization, and we are devastated following his tragic passing,” said Orioles general manager Mike Elias in a statement via MLB.com. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and teammates, and we ask for their continued privacy during this difficult time.”
Guevara was hitting for a .235 average with 20 hits, 11 RBIs and 16 runs scored, along with a .380 OBP and .698 OPS in 2025, according to MiLB.com.
