Thomas Rhett said “my mind is blown,” as he got ready to cross off one of the biggest items on his “career bucket list.” The country star took the stage for a sold-out headlining show on Saturday (July 19) at iconic Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
Rhett shared a few photos from that show on Instagram on Sunday (July 20). The first snapshot includes the singer-songwriter’s family: wife Lauren Akins, and the couple’s four young daughters, Willa Gray (9), Ada James (7), Lennon Love (5) and Lillie Carolina (3). Rhett said in his caption:
“Dear Boston.. too many memories to count. Some I remember vividly and some are foggy for reasons I’m sure you can imagine. Pretty sure I have played most every venue this town has to offer. From the house of blues, to my first tour ever opening for Toby Keith at the Xfinity center, to the home of the patriots opening for Kenny Chesney, opened here twice for Jason Aldean. Where I got to witness the masterpiece of a performance by the one and only kid rock, to arguably my favorite show ever two years ago at TD garden, and to cap all that off getting to headline here last night along side my brother [Teddy Swims] is something I may never wrap my head around. I’ve drank most of your bars outta beer, ate my weight in lobster rolls, tried but failed every time to get a reservation at Neptune oyster, threw my guts up on a whale watching tour, and attended my fare share of Red Sox games. Needless to say this place has always been and always will be one of my favorite places to play shows on the planet. Since day one of my career I have dreamed of this moment. I’m so grateful for how much support yall have shown me for over 15 years. So If I said I love you too many times last night, it’s because I’m not sure how to fully express how much this city means to me.
“Lastly, knowing that most of my best friends and family were there because they know how big of a deal this is for me is amazing,” he continued. “Lord willing we will get to do this many more times, but on the off chance we don’t I get to say that my wife and kids watched me headline Fenway park and hopefully that gives me street cred with my grandkids one day!
“Saturday at Fenway was the craziest thing ever,” Rhett added in a statement on Monday. “I have so many great memories in Boston, but I have dreamt about headlining Fenway my entire career. So, standing there with over 35,000 fans dancing and singing back to me will be etched in my brain for the rest of my life…I love you Boston!"
Rhett’s headlining show at Fenway Park took place one day after he released the extended edition of his seventh studio record, About A Woman, to include collaborations with Blake Shelton and Jordan Davis. Rhett said on Friday (July 18) that two of his “biggest career bucket list dreams” included “headlining a stadium and collaborating with one of my heroes like Blake Shelton. This week, I’m doing both of those things and my mind is blown.” The Fenway Park concert also took place in the midst of Rhett’s headlining “Better In Boots Tour” with Tucker Wetmore, The Castellows and Dasha on select dates.
