Keith Urban introduced a surprise guest to the stage — and teased his upcoming competition show — to cover an iconic 90s anthem by Jo Dee Messina during a recent concert in Denver, Colorado.
Urban is the headlining artist on The Road, a soon-to-premiere CBS series executive produced by Blake Shelton and Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan. A dozen contestants serve as Urban’s opening acts as they “navigate the gritty and unforgiving life of a touring musician,” CBS previously stated. “Redneck Woman” hitmaker Gretchen Wilson joined the show as the “tour manager,” and other to-be-announced country artists will make appearances throughout the competition.
Urban said the show is “unlike anything you’ve ever seen,” as he told his audience about The Road at a recent stop on his headlining tour. The “High and Alive World Tour” includes Chase Matthew, Alana Springsteen and Karley Scott Collins. Find the list of tour stops here. Urban introduced Nashville, Tennessee-based singer and The Road contestant Adam Sanders to the stage. Together, the pair covered “Heads Carolina, Tails California.” Messina wrote in a comment on Instagram, “I'll gladly be a part of your show Keith 🤣🤣🤣🤣love ya, bro ! 💜” Sanders said it was “an unforgettable night!! Thank you KU 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻”
The Road will premiere on October 19 on CBS. The show will air on Sundays from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, and will be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+. Meet the rest of the 12 contestants here.
