Some things in life are worth chasing: true love, lost luggage, and unbelievably good fried chicken.

Some eateries talk a big game, boasting "world-famous" wings that taste suspiciously like yesterday’s leftovers. But every once in a while, you stumble on a place (maybe it’s a roadside shack, maybe it’s a no-frills diner) that absolutely nails it. We’re talking crispy, golden skin that shatters like glass, juicy meat that drips flavor, and seasoning that whispers secrets to your taste buds.

Yeah, that kind of fried chicken. In California, there’s a restaurant dishing out poultry perfection, and LoveFood has tracked it down. No hype, no gimmicks, just honest-to-goodness fried chicken that might make you cancel your dinner plans for the rest of the week. So loosen your belt, grab some napkins, and let’s dig into the best fried chicken California has to offer.

According to a list compiled by LoveFood, the best fried chicken in California is served at Howlin' Ray's in Los Angeles.

Here's what LoveFood had to say about the best place to order a basket of fried chicken in the state:

"Husband-and-wife team Johnny Ray Zone and Amanda Chapman developed a love of hot chicken during a trip to Nashville and realized LA was missing out on something truly delicious. They launched their food truck in 2014, before opening a bricks-and-mortar restaurant in Chinatown’s Far East Plaza a year later. Customers swing by in droves for the crispy, juicy, flavorful fried chicken with six levels of heat on offer. The Sando, with boneless breast, slaw, comeback sauce, and pickles in a butter bun, is one of the most popular orders. There's now a second location in Pasadena."
