Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford didn't practice on Monday (August 11) despite being expected to participate in individual drills amid his aggravated disc injury, ESPN's Sarah Barshop reports.
"Shortly after practice began, Matthew Stafford walked into this Ammortal chamber, which helps with 'restoration and rejuvenation.' Stafford will not practice today," Barshop wrote on her X account.
Monday was reportedly expected to be crucial in Stafford's return from back soreness after throwing 68 passes at the Rams' practice facility on Saturday (August 9), with head coach Sean McVay telling reporters Sunday (August 10) he expected the veteran quarterback to participate in individual drills the following day with the plan to "take it a day at a time" from there. Stafford, 37, however, was seen wearing street clothes while walking into a "restorative and rejuvenation" chamber located next to the team's practice field.

Stafford and the Rams finalized a new four-year, $44 million contract, with $4 million already paid and the rest fully guaranteed in May. The former Super Bowl champion previously reworked his contract with the Rams prior to the 2024 NFL season, however, the process took longer than expected and Los Angeles would want the situation sorted early so he'll be present at training camp.
“We don’t want to have that go on again,” McVay previously said via ESPN. “I don’t think that’s good for anybody. I think sooner than later, being able to get that clarity. Understanding clear, open and honest communication.
“I think there’s a lot of love coming from our part. I think there’s a lot of appreciation coming from his part as well. And I think a lot sooner than later is an ideal scenario.”
Stafford threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 340 of 517 passing in 2024, leading the Rams to a 10-6 record and win against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card round. Los Angeles acquired Stafford in a trade with the Detroit Lions, his team for the first 12 seasons of his NFL career, months ahead of winning Super Bowl LVI.
