Beyond Meat issued a statement to the website Plant Based News denying reports that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as "unequivocally false" on Friday (August 15).

“We have not filed, nor are we planning to file, for bankruptcy.” a Beyond Meat spokesperson said.

The denial came after several reports claiming the plant-based meat substitute company was planning to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid financial struggles. Beyond Meat, which played a key role in the hyper-realistic meat analogues market since its launch in 2009, has seen sales decline amid a more competitive market.

The company's Q2 year-on-year net revenue was reported to have declined by 19% to $75 million with a total net loss of $29.2 million, as well as an operating loss of $34.9 million in 2025. Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown publicly expressed disappointment at the time, blaming the low numbers on "ongoing softness in the plant-based meat category.”

The financial struggles have led to the company cutting back on its workforce, which includes suspending operations in China earlier this year, as well as plans to cut about 6% of its workforce by 2026 in an effort to become more profitable. Brown also previously announced that the name "Beyond Meat" would soon be changed to just "Beyond" in an effort to distance itself from meat entirely during a podcast appearance, a move that followed a change to more whole-food-based ingredients.

“If you’re the best in the world at making plant proteins, why confine yourself to the centre of the plate?” Brown said via Plant Based News. “Instead of thinking about a simple replacement for animal protein, what if you just thought about your daily protein consumption, and started to try to replace as much of that as you can with plant protein – in any form that you could?”
