Duane "Keefe D" Davis has been sentenced to over three years in prison for fighting a fellow inmate at a county jail in Nevada.
According to a report KLAS published on Tuesday, September 2, Clark County District Court Judge Nadia Krall ordered Davis to serve 16-40 months in prison for an unrelated fight he got into while in jail. The brawl happened last December at the Clark County Detention Center, but Davis was found guilty of fighting an inmate by a jury in April.
“I was attacked,” Davis said. “It was wrong. I know not to fight in the jail. The guy attacked me.”
“My parents brought me up to protect myself, and that’s all I was doing, protecting myself, and this is totally wrong man,” Davis added.
The 62-year-old was in jail awaiting his upcoming murder trial when the fight went down. Davis faces a sole murder charge for his alleged involvement with the shooting of Tupac Shakur, which led to his death in 1996. His arrest in 2023 was the first major break in the unsolved murder case. The investigation was cold for years before detectives began looking into Davis.
Prosecutors allege Davis helped facilitate the drive-by shooting. They cited his own words in interviews and a book he wrote in which he described what happened on the night in question. Davis pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and claimed his previous version of events was strictly for entertainment purposes. Davis has been awaiting trial behind bars since he was previously denied bail. His trial is set to begin in February.
