Luke Bryan’s duet version of “Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)” with late music legend Dan Seals made its debut on Friday (September 12). The collaboration offers a fresh perspective on the timeless ballad that Seals originally released in the 1980s.

Bryan said in a statement that “Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)” comes to mind as one of the most “iconic” songs of all time. Now a Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Award winner, Bryan reminisced on the performances he delivered of this song in his home state of Georgia. Joining Seals on a duet version for an upcoming project was an “unbelievable” full circle moment.

“When I think of all time iconic songs, this one definitely comes top of mind,” Bryan said in a statement. “Dan was an artist I had on repeat and actually still do. I sang this song when I was back in Georgia and now to be here and paired with him on this new release is just unbelievable.”

Seals was born in February 1948 in McCamey, Texas. The 2024 Texas Heritage Songwriter Hall of Fame honoree left a lasting impact spanning genres, including country, pop and soft rock throughout his decades-long career. “Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)” appeared on Seals’ 1985 studio record, Won’t Be Blue Anymore. The late singer-songwriter was also known for “Meet Me in Montana” with Marie Osmond, “Bop,” “God Must Be a Cowboy,” “I Will Be There,” “Good Times” and more. Seals died of Mantle cell lymphoma in 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 61.
