In a charming turn of events, Kehlani's five-year-old daughter, Adeya Nomi Parrish Young-White, managed to get her mom to spill some exciting details about her upcoming album during a recent Billboard Family chat.
During the interview, Kehlani shared insights into the creation of her recent hit "Folded," explaining, "I was working with my friends. I was in Miami on a work trip and I heard the beat and I loved the beat, and so I took it in a room and me and [some collaborators] made the song together." Adeya, not satisfied with just the basics, pushed further, asking why Kehlani chose to release the song, and Kehlani responded, "I just really thought it was a really cool way to come back into music after I hadn’t put music out for a while."
The interview also touched on the viral TikTok challenge inspired by "Folded" and Brandy's impromptu cover of the song. Kehlani expressed her excitement about Brandy's rendition, calling her "absolute favorite vocalist." The chat further delved into Kehlani's friendships, including her bond with Cardi B, whom she described as someone who "knows how to be herself all the time."
As the interview concluded, Adeya skillfully coaxed a scoop from her mother. Kehlani revealed that her daughter had played a significant role in her upcoming album, referring to Adeya as the project's "creative director." The new album, a follow-up to the 2024 Crash LP, is set to release in 2026.
