Devlin “Duck” Hodges shared a sweet tribute to his fiancée, country superstar Lainey Wilson, after the 59th CMA Awards earlier this week in Nashville, Tennessee.
Wilson, 33, hosted the show for her second consecutive year, and this time, she hosted it solo. The Whirlwind hitmaker became the third female artist in Country Music Association history to solo host Country Music’s Biggest Night, following Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. Her fiancé, Hodges, 29, said Wilson “absolutely CRUSHED it.”
“[Lainey Wilson], thank you for being you,” Hodges wrote in a post on Instagram. “You are such an inspiration and role model for so many, including this guy right here. Absolutely CRUSHED it as a host. This girl right here y’all LOVES country music and loves this community and thank you all who love her back!”
Wilson also took the stage with two performances, including a medley of country hits and “Ring Finger,” a “sassy” anthem from her latest studio record, Whirlwind. That project earned Wilson the Album of the Year win. She also took home the awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. See the full list of 59th CMA Award winners here.
Hodges proposed to Wilson earlier this year at late legend George Jones’ estate in Franklin, Tennessee, outside of Nashville. The couple recently reminisced on the start of their relationship in separate interviews (Wilson spoke about it with Southern Living, and Hodges reflected on the couple’s first date on an episode of Like a Farmer). Wilson previously said she’d been “wanting to see the George Jones estate for quite some time, and his buddy had it listed for sale.” When she and Hodges arrived, Wilson said she knew her fiancé had “different plans. …It could not have been more perfect.”
