Dolly Parton reflected on her stunning “signature style.”
The legendary country artist displayed many of her dazzling wardrobe pieces in Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker, an exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. Parton, who will celebrate her 80th birthday next month, previously sat down with exhibit co-creator Allison Moorer to talk about the exhibit. She reflected on her vibrant, bold style over the years, and “her desire to stand apart” in a clip shared by the Hall of Fame on Tuesday (December 30).
“When I started doing the pop stuff, they always tried to get me to wear more stylish, more fashionable, more tasteful clothes,” Parton said in her conversation with Moorer, referring to record executives who told her that her style might draw attention from her music. “But I said, ‘Look, I’m gonna be me because I know who I am and you don’t.’ . . . I have to be comfortable in how I dress, how I see myself, and how I feel in what I’m wearing.”
Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker also explores her passion for music, her unforgettable film roles, her philanthropic work and more. Some of the items included in the exhibit include Parton’s handwritten “Jolene” lyrics, the cowgirl look Parton wore in “9 to 5,” custom instruments and more, plus exclusive footage of interviews.
“Being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame was one of the greatest moments of my life, and being able to have a personal exhibit for the fans that put me there is a very big deal to me,” Parton said in a statement when the Journey of a Seeker exhibit was announced. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999 (and into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022). “This seeker is very proud and honored, and I hope you enjoy my journey. I will always love you.”
Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker is open now through September 2026.
