I thought this was more so about what the Mavericks
didn't do versus what the Celtics did do in this game.

because they put up the points that were necessary to
walk down the Mavericks when they took the lead, and
then take the lead and take a commanding.

getting close, and I think the possession before they took

argument for the whole thing would be, well, what difference
does it make if I want to take a week
off during the off season program and it just happens
to be during this week rather than two or three

That would be his argument, I think, you know, on
the flip side of it, now, my argument counter to

that would be, well, if you're the Jets, you know,
I mean, why don't you just move your mini camp up? Right? Like,
why don't you have your mini camp last week? And
then you have a couple of OTAs this week? And
if he's not there, it's it's really not that big
a deal at all, right, in every in every in

did some similar things and offloading some guys to get

that division like looks like it's right there for the

able to win enough games to get a really high seed,
you know, and then you've got Aaron Rodgers in a

playoff setting and all right, like you know, like let's
see what happens, you know. So to me, like that's
the crazy thing about it is that there's every reason
for everybody in that building to be really locked in
because there is this golden opportunity right there in front
of them. And you know, I I think that the
Jet the Jets were pushed back on all of this

by saying, well, we've had a really good spring to
this point and this is just one week out of
the spring. But you know, again, like this is this
is making a story. This is this is like almost
like a story was generated when they really didn't need
to be one, and it's not beneficial to the team.

I think the Vikings since they have a little bit
more in Sam than than some people on the outside do.

with you guys before, but you go back and watch,
and I know it's garbage time right like. But it
was the end of the the Niners Ravens game and

the Niners are getting blown out and Sam Donald gets
in the game and this is in a Kyle Shanahan
offense with with the Niners skill players out there with them,
with the Niners offensive line out there with them, and
you just see how fast he was playing, and it
almost looked like Kyle had rewired him a little bit, right.
And so he goes to Minnesota now and the bones

of Kevin's offensive it's Kyle's offense, right, So he's going
to get to go there, And is there an opportunity
to really resurrect his career? You know, I just from
having talked to people there, Yes, Sam's looked pretty good.
Now is it going to translate into the game field,
We'll see. You know, Sam Donald's looked good and practiced before.
This isn't the first time that's happened. But you know,

there's a very real there's a very real optimism around SAMs.
So JJ is gonna have to go out and win
the job. And you know, on top of that, I
know Kevin's had a very detailed as a very very detailed,
like you know, kind of set set of checkpoints that
he wants j to hit before he's going to put
him out there on the field. So I think that

one's going to be, you know, very very interesting. I'm
just thinking of other ones across the lead. Of course,
everything you're paying attention in Atlanta, but I don't think
that's really a competition. And then Denver to me is fascinating.
You know, you've got you know, Zach Wilson, Chritt Sidham
and and and obviously bon Knicks out there, and Bo
Nicks started over sixty games in college. So if there's

anybody who should be ready to go out there and
play in an NFL game among the quarterbacks who are
trapted in the first round, it should be Bo Nicks.
I'm gonna be fascinated to see what happens in Denver's
quarterback battle too, So those would be the two. Really,
I think Denver Minnesota are probably the two most interesting ones.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Not thinking ahead over sales, but you mentioned Denver. I'm
just curious if things don't work out for them this year,
whether it's not Nicks or Zach Wilson, whoever juristed. I'm
you know, how much of the blame is gonna be
put on Sean paid Like what's that seat look like
there in Denver?

Yeah? I think a lot of it, Brady, comes down to,
you know, like is the team ascending at the end
of the year. I think if if you look at
the way the last two years have been handled, you know,
really there's been almost a repudiation of like the the
core that was in place before and the amount of
guys that have been offloaded, you know, from Bradley Chubb,
(42:24):
the Jerry Judy, you know, like a lot of the
Justin Simmons has gone now. So a lot of guys
that that team was built around over the last over
the last five years are are are gone now, you know.
And a lot of the big box decisions were made
by Sean Payton. So I don't think I don't think
anybody's under the illusion that Denver is gonna win eleven

or twelve games this year. But you know, I think
what you would like to see is the team is
ascending at the end of the year, that has young
players that are that are making places for them and
you know, and it's not a situation where the team
is founder and Jerry Judy looks great in Cleveland and
Bradley Chubb's come off the injury strong in Miami. You know, Like,

I think, really it's going to be what the team
looks like in December. I think we all expect that
they're going to have some bumps early on, But how
they finish the year and how they're going into twenty
twenty five, I think it's going to be the key.
And then, of course, I mean I think seeing how
Russell Wilson plays in Pittsburgh too, whether he's able to
hold onto the job there, what all that looks like
versus how the Denver quarterbacks look is probably going to
be a part of the equation too.

all of a sudden, it was this sloppy, careless basketball

passed the ball. You know, some of these turnovers were
just not the type of turnovers that you should see
in the biggest game of the year for your team.
I thought this was more so about what the Mavericks
didn't do versus what the Celtics did do in this game.

And and yes, give give Tatum and give Brown credit
because they put up the points that were necessary to
walk down the Mavericks when they took the lead, and
then take the lead and take a commanding.

getting close, and I think the possession before they took

a bad shot, Jak took a time out, Lucas slammed
the ball. You could tell he's frustrated because they could
have got another transition bucket. But it almost I think
that was like six minutes left in the fourth. But
I mean, really it Boston controlled that game from halftime on.

like how are we going to handle this and all that,

which to me is like if you're not going to
allow it for any of the other eighty nine guys
on the team, If that sort of thing came up
and you wouldn't allow it for the other eight and
you guys in the team, and you would find any
of those eighty nine guys for you know, for missing
the mini camps, then you have to find Aaron too.
And you know, I my understanding is that there wasn't

a lot of pushback from Aaron on that, like it's
fine if it was not excused. If you have to
do it that way. Now, Like my my bigger, broader
question is just the handling of it, right, Like they
could have gotten ahead of this and they could have
told the world about this two weeks ago, three weeks ago,
four weeks ago, whatever it was. They could have let

everybody know like, hey, look like this is gonna you know,
we're going to do this a little bit differently, and
you know quarterback's not going to be there for mini camp,
which is you know, which is is not insignificant of course,
because that changes the dynamic for everybody else in the
opposite puddle.

Albert, can you just get to the punch, like, like,
where's he at? Because because the reality is, if this
is something that I think they had communicated where he was,
whether people like it or not, they would at least
be like, oh okay, Like there's there'd be a group
of people who say that's justified. It's it's what he
wants to do, or it's a personal matter, we need
to let him do that. There's others that will probably
still criticize him because he's Aaron Rodgers and people just

do that. Either way. It feels like the secrecy of
his absence is what is probably most have some out there.

I think that that's a fair assessment of it. And
you know what I would tell you, Brady that I've
heard consistently from different people on this is like that

it is, but I do think, you know, I think
eventually it'll probably get out and you know, I think

Like Aaron barely showed up for anything the last few
years with Attackers, right he was away from the team's

offseason program. Obviously that was a big part in and
how they developed Jordan Love over those years, but he
wasn't around a lot like the last five six years
in Green Bay. He would show up with the mini camp,
but other than that, like you wouldn't see him much
at the team facility. And you know, now he's around
almost the entire offseason program, right with the Jets the

last two years he has been. And I think his
argument for the whole thing would be, well, what difference
does it make if I want to take a week
off during the off season program and it just happens
to be during this week rather than two or three
weeks ago, Well, then what difference does that make? Right? Like?
That would be his argument, I think, you know, on
the flip side of it, now, my argument counter to
(33:27):
that would be, well, if you're the Jets, you know,
I mean, why don't you just move your mini camp up? Right? Like,
why don't you have your mini camp last week? And
then you have a couple of OTAs this week? And
if he's not there, it's it's really not that big
a deal at all, right, in every in every in
every way, in every way, like and sorry lebar, but
like in every way, in every way. I think the

problem here is this is becoming a very big deal
because of the handling of it. Maybe not because of
what it actually is.

This experiment has definitely run its course, and we will
refer back to moments like this in terms of why
it didn't work out. I mean, don't shouldn't Aaron Rodgers
be a little bit more cognizant of the fact that
he hasn't played enough football for the Jets to be

in a situation where he would handle the situation that
would cause and create this type of aritis.

He hasn't played any football for the Jet stag. I mean,
like and that's the part like this, I mean, he's
been a story for the Jets, you know, for for

mean I I I the payoff has to come for
them now, and you know that. The crazy thing is

it really does feel like they're in this. I mean
like this, this, this, there's this golden opportunity in front
of them. I mean, look, Buffalo had to reset their
roster in a lot of ways right, Like, so now
Jordan Ployer's gone, Michaeh Hyde has gone to Davis White
has gone, Stefan Diggs is gone, Mitch Morris has gone.

Like the Bills are turning over the roster. The Dolphins
did some similar things and offloading some guys to get
ready to pay Tua and letting Christian Wilkins go and
cutting jeronn Baker and Zavian Howard, you know, like they
that division like looks like it's right there for the
taking to the Jets the point where they might be
able to win enough games to get a really high seed,
you know, and then you've got Aaron Rodgers in a
(38:09):
playoff setting and all right, like you know, like let's
see what happens, you know. So to me, like that's
the crazy thing about it is that there's every reason
for everybody in that building to be really locked in
because there is this golden opportunity right there in front
of them. And you know, I I think that the
Jet the Jets were pushed back on all of this

by saying, well, we've had a really good spring to
this point and this is just one week out of
the spring. But you know, again, like this is this
is making a story. This is this is like almost
like a story was generated when they really didn't need
to be one, and it's not beneficial to the team.

I mean, if they win this season, no one's going
to remember this, No one's.

Going to care rights.

But if they don't point it is going to be
one of the first things they point to as part
of the reason why, or you know whatever.

have a bad September, everybody's me pointing back to this

We were talking earlier about Sam Darnold. Kevin O'Connell says
he's going to get the first looks as starter when
they get to training camp next month. For you, which
is the most interesting quarterback battle to watch for his
training camp approaches.

That that one's that one's a good one because you know,
I think the Vikings since they have a little bit
more in Sam than than some people on the outside do.
And you know, I I think I brought this up
with you guys before, but you go back and watch,
and I know it's garbage time right like. But it
was the end of the the Niners Ravens game and

the Niners are getting blown out and Sam Donald gets
in the game and this is in a Kyle Shanahan
offense with with the Niners skill players out there with them,
with the Niners offensive line out there with them, and
you just see how fast he was playing, and it
almost looked like Kyle had rewired him a little bit, right.
And so he goes to Minnesota now and the bones
(40:26):
of Kevin's offensive it's Kyle's offense, right, So he's going
to get to go there, And is there an opportunity
to really resurrect his career? You know, I just from
having talked to people there, Yes, Sam's looked pretty good.
Now is it going to translate into the game field,
We'll see. You know, Sam Donald's looked good and practiced before.
This isn't the first time that's happened. But you know,
(40:49):
there's a very real there's a very real optimism around SAMs.
So JJ is gonna have to go out and win
the job. And you know, on top of that, I
know Kevin's had a very detailed as a very very detailed,
like you know, kind of set set of checkpoints that
he wants j to hit before he's going to put
him out there on the field. So I think that

one's going to be, you know, very very interesting. I'm
just thinking of other ones across the lead. Of course,
everything you're paying attention in Atlanta, but I don't think
that's really a competition. And then Denver to me is fascinating.
You know, you've got you know, Zach Wilson, Chritt Sidham
and and and obviously bon Knicks out there, and Bo
Nicks started over sixty games in college. So if there's
(41:30):
anybody who should be ready to go out there and
play in an NFL game among the quarterbacks who are
trapted in the first round, it should be Bo Nicks.
I'm gonna be fascinated to see what happens in Denver's
quarterback battle too, So those would be the two. Really,
I think Denver Minnesota are probably the two most interesting ones.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Not thinking ahead over sales, but you mentioned Denver. I'm
just curious if things don't work out for them this year,
whether it's not Nicks or Zach Wilson, whoever juristed. I'm
you know, how much of the blame is gonna be
put on Sean paid Like what's that seat look like
there in Denver?
Speaker 8 (42:03):
Yeah? I think a lot of it, Brady, comes down to,
you know, like is the team ascending at the end
of the year. I think if if you look at
the way the last two years have been handled, you know,
really there's been almost a repudiation of like the the
core that was in place before and the amount of
guys that have been offloaded, you know, from Bradley Chubb,
(42:24):
the Jerry Judy, you know, like a lot of the
Justin Simmons has gone now. So a lot of guys
that that team was built around over the last over
the last five years are are are gone now, you know.
And a lot of the big box decisions were made
by Sean Payton. So I don't think I don't think
anybody's under the illusion that Denver is gonna win eleven
(42:46):
or twelve games this year. But you know, I think
what you would like to see is the team is
ascending at the end of the year, that has young
players that are that are making places for them and
you know, and it's not a situation where the team
is founder and Jerry Judy looks great in Cleveland and
Bradley Chubb's come off the injury strong in Miami. You know, Like,
(43:07):
I think, really it's going to be what the team
looks like in December. I think we all expect that
they're going to have some bumps early on, But how
they finish the year and how they're going into twenty
twenty five, I think it's going to be the key.
And then, of course, I mean I think seeing how
Russell Wilson plays in Pittsburgh too, whether he's able to
hold onto the job there, what all that looks like
versus how the Denver quarterbacks look is probably going to
be a part of the equation too.
