Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's the best of two pros and a couple Joe
with Lamar Arrington, Rady Win and Jonas Knox on Box
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Those happen in sticks. How are we feeling here in
a two?
Speaker 3 (00:15):
I'm wonderful. How are you? You look good? I can
see you, but you can't see me. I can't I know,
but I can see you. You look like a vampires
and his vampire environment.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Now is it worse better or worse than when we
were at the Super Bowl and I was going leather
jacket because it was for some reason, like twenty two
degrees out in the morning time.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
You look like casual vampire today. Okay, not leather jacket vampire.
Not not not stepped up taking knee and save my
liege or whatever. That is your grace, your grace, Yeah,
not quite on that casual casual vamp, sweatpant vampires. Yes,
(01:02):
that's what I call it, by the way.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
But yeah, you good Father's Day. Everything all good over
there in the area.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
It was good. Yeah, cooked a lot of good food.
You know it was good.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah. I got a real bone to pick with you.
Oh whoa okay, real bone to pick. Okay, this took
a turn really quickly. I just want to I figure,
we'll get this out of the way right off the top.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Let it.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Okay, So it's Father's Day. My brother does a nice
little gesture. He found a place nearby that on sale,
because you know, like at certain places, like at holidays
like Valentine's Day, Father's Day, Mother's Day, they'll do like
the stuff will be on sale.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Like you get your brother, your brother finds the sales.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, well, like prime rib you can get Ribbis, you
can get like specialty meats things like that. If you
want to get seafood, there's there's places out there like
that's the time to go because people realize, well, you
maybe you want a barbecue, you want to do a
nice dinner at home, whatever the case may be. He
finds these Tomahawks steaks like a pack at two of
value pack, and he gives me one. He says, this
(02:05):
is this thing is huge and grilled up. It'll be
you know, nice to put together, and you and your
wife can have it and it'll be a nice little meal,
like late afternoon meal on Father's Day. So I'm thinking, man,
I got this all dialed in. It's already seasoned. He
even had one of the one of the cooks at
(02:26):
my other brother's restaurant. They did like a shrimp cocktail thing, Like,
I mean, the thing was beautiful. It was well done,
well put together. And I'm sitting there just grilling away,
feeling real good about myself, like you know that this
is the perfect Father's day, all right? Yeah? And then
and then the Dirk Diggler of cooking shows up LeVar
(02:46):
Arrington and decides, all you think that's something, get a
load of this. And he's got boxes and crates of seafood,
he's got all sorts of meat and a platter set up.
He's got some sort of a concoction where there's this
giant glass case wrapped around a cocktail that's smoking the
(03:08):
cocktail inside. And I'm looking at my Tomahawk, going I
can't keep up with Dirk here, like this is not
even a possibility. So congratulations and making other people feel
inadequate on Father's Day.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
I did pull my pants down. You did, I did?
I really did. You did?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
You showed everybody what you were working with yah and
made people feel terrible about it.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I'll tell you what those crabs that that I make,
those dungenesses were. I really did a great job, Jonas.
I hate to pat myself on the back, but I
really did a great job.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Man, We really did gifted guy like you White, I
pat yourself.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
On the back, you know, and the front because I
had gifted matter up. It's long Loan Loy's long ago.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
You are a class act, just a real class act.
But yes, speaking of class acts, So we transitioned smoothly
from the Dirk Diggler of Father's Day grilling to somebody
who just can't seem to figure out which direction they
want to go when it comes to accountability. How about
(04:28):
your guy, Ja Moran? Huh? How about Ja Morant? According
to Tim McMahon, he appeared on the Brian Windhorst and
the Hoop Collected podcast a lot there he said that
he's heard that Jah Morant and people close to Ja
Morant feel like the NBA and the media are out
to get him this following his twenty five game suspension
(04:51):
and some of the blowback and things like that. Now,
Ja Morant kind of denied that. On Twitter, he retweeted
some sort of a big app give for something that
was out there, and then he decided to delete the tweet,
like the whole thing's of fiasco. But nonetheless, you know
that the report is they still feel like maybe they
(05:13):
didn't do everything entirely wrong here and that the NBA
and the media are out to get Jamran. So I
just want to give a shout out and a tip
of the no big cap here, but just a tip
of the cap to Ja Moran and his side that
is saying that the NBA is out to get him
nothing but accountability.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Well, all right, So the more I think about it,
and the more people that I've spoken to, and when
I say more, people literally like less than you know,
two handfuls of people that I've had this debate with,
of people that I trust and that I know, and
a lot of them had the idea and the approach
(05:53):
that what you do in your personal life and your
personal business should be of no consequence to you at
your your workplace. I tend to take a different, different,
uh kind of stance on that. I think, actually, everything
you do should be taken into consideration as it applies
(06:17):
to you know, your place of employment. And and I
just always come back to if you have conduct that's
detrimental to you know, to your your your workplace, then
you become expendable. We're already I look at like this,
we're already expendable commodities, right Like, if you do everything
(06:39):
the right way, you're still an expendable commodity. You can
raise your value with your performance and if you show
that you know, you're exemplary with with how you do things.
I think that you you put yourself in in a
positive a positive way, because that's what you should do
(07:02):
as an employee to the company that you work for.
You want to provide value. At what point does that
line get blurred or does it get crossed with your
conduct and how should that be handled? That's not for
me to decide, because I don't get paid those dollars
by the NBA to decide it. But what I will
(07:23):
say is is that when you do something that gets
you in a bad way at your workplace, I don't
I think, for one, doing it two times says that
you have really a true lack of regard for for
what it is that that you're in trouble for. Because
(07:45):
you got in trouble for the same exact thing. It's
not it's not like you did something different. You got
in trouble for the same exact thing. So I would
never begin to have the conversation that the NBA is
out to get someone who has has been irresponsible in
the same exact way that John Morant has been irresponsible.
(08:09):
So I think it's up to interpretation in terms of
how lenient or how hard people that are making decisions
on John Morant should be. But Jonas, I just feel
like if you don't put yourself in a situation to
begin with, you don't have to worry about any type
of conspiracy theories as if the league is out to
get you, you don't have to worry about you know,
(08:31):
if somebody has something to say about your character, you
can defend yourself. I just think doing it two times.
Whether the gun was a lighter or whether it was
a real gun, it doesn't matter, you know, if you
pull out a gun that is a toy gun that
has the even the orange tip at the end of it.
But if it is a real looking making model of
(08:53):
a gun, and you pull it out at an airport
or a train station, you'll find out what a fake
gun will get you, right, You'll find out what it'll
get you.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
You don't even have to have an actual fake gun.
Alden Smith was at Lax years ago and yelled out
that he had a bomb that didn't go too well.
Like he just yelled it out. He didn't actually have
anything to look like a bomb that didn't go too
well for Alden Smith. He got me thrown in jail
and it was a disaster, just the And let's look,
I hope this isn't true. I hope that they don't
(09:28):
feel this way, but it wouldn't surprise me. It seems
like he doesn't surround himself with the best people in
the world, Like some of the stuff they do is
kind of dumb. The fact that I was surprised, I
don't know if you felt the same way. But I
thought that the length of the suspension would have been longer.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
I thought they would have made it longer to make
not only to make an example of him at this point,
but I actually thought they would make it a harsher
penalty to protect the brand. Yeah, I mean, you're fighting
to You're fighting a losing battle for popularity against the NFL.
(10:06):
You're you're looking for the next crop of superstars that
will replace the guys who are retiring. I mean, Carmelo
just retires, Lebron is getting to the point where he's
going to retire. I mean, you're you're looking for that
next crop of of A listers, and John Morant is
(10:26):
one of the headliners on that short list of people. Yea.
And and he's you know, his his personal business, his
personal life is interfering with his his value, his his
his sellibility, right Like you want advertisers to want to
deal with you, you want your superstars to be kid friendly,
(10:49):
your family friendly. There are a lot of elements that
go into the conduct of these players on and off
the court. And that's why to me, I thought it
would have been a harsher penalty, but you know, it
wasn't a harsher penalty. And I almost feel like because
the contrarian side of this conversation is that it was
(11:11):
something that he was doing in his own personal life.
I guess there's the idea that he wasn't breaking any
laws when when this took place. So where exactly is
the you know, where is the I guess disciplinary actions?
What is it? What is it grounded in?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Yeah, look, I think that if you come into this
assuming your penalty is going to be harsher, and it
ends up not being harsher. You take that as a gift,
and you go, all right, I learn I move on
to come out after the fact and say, well, no, no, no,
it was a lighter. Look here's the proof, Like why
would you like what's why is it necessary? Like why
(11:53):
do you need to pull out, you know, your Yankee
candles and light them up with a nine millimeter Like
it's at that point, dude, you made a mistake. We
get it. It was about the optics. You didn't fire
the gun, whether it was fake, a cap gun, whatever,
you didn't fire it. You made a mistake. You got
your twenty five games. You move on to go no, no, no, no, no,
(12:14):
here's video. It's proved that it's a lighter. And then
to come back allegedly and say we feel like the
NBA and the media are out to get us. It's like,
at what point do you just go lesson, learned, mistake made,
and now we move on. I just try and focus
on next year when I come back. And it seems
like that's not your approaches.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
I guess again, immaturity is what's gotten him here, So
why would you expect him to or his people to
all of a sudden be mature about how they're handling it.
So I look at the way that everything has has
come out and unfolded, and it's just a it's a
lack of awareness of being a professional. I always say,
(12:57):
you can't. You can't get a million dollars out of
two dollars effort. You can't become you can't get pro
results if you're working as an amateur. So if you're
working as an amateur, you're going to perform at the
level of an amateur. You're going to handle things like
an amateur. If you're working like a pro, you're going
(13:18):
to handle things like a pro, and you're going to
approach things like a pro. And to me, when when
you have that type of mindset, it shows, it shows.
And so whether whether they believe these claims are true
or not, whether they're just but heard about it, whatever
it is, wherever they fall on it, there's no real
(13:39):
sensibility to the claim because in the first place, you're
the reason why you're in this scenario. The things that
you've done, your actions have led to you being in
this situation. What so, what you're saying is is that
you can have video of you with a firearm pop
up and it's your personal life. It's your personal business.
(14:02):
So the the idea of it is is that there
should be nothing that takes place right now if you're
if you're glorifying a certain lifestyle, like for instance, they
put certain photos out there and try to compare to
two like what's the difference, Well, that person is hunting.
You know, they have a they they're they're clearly in
(14:23):
an environment where they're hunting. If Jahn Morant was throwing
his gun up in the air like like thug life,
you know, to tupacin and and uh, you know the
rest of the crew, right and you're in a and
you're in a firing range, nobody's going to say anything.
(14:44):
Nobody the outlaws. By the way, I don't want people
to think that my streets are out laws to Tupac,
where a lot of them is gone. But but if
you're if you are, if you're purped out and you're
at a firing range, a gun range, and you're even shooting,
you're discharging the gun, no one is going to have
a problem with it. You Know. What's the problem here
(15:07):
is the context of where the gun was seen and
where it was shown in both scenarios that is not
that is not advertiser friendly. If you're the NBA, and
if I'm the NBA, I would have thought they would
have came down harder just for the simple fact that
they want their their advertisers to know and they want
(15:31):
their families, their viewers, their audience to know that this
is one hundred percent something that they don't support and
will have a very low tolerance, which is the conduct
of anything that is detrimental to the league.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Unless there's a blockbuster gun lighter sponsorship lined up between
the NBA and some company out there.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
There you go. A lot of people do use lighters.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
That is true.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
I don't know how many. I can't say I've ever
saw a strap lighter. I can't never say I saw that.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
But yeah, I just thought there were the old school
big lighters that you just if they were running out,
you end up, you know, burning your fingertip because it
lights up and gets warm at the tip, and then
you can't you know, you're gonna be careful with.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Just warm out the tip. You gotta go get some penicilla. Hey,
And then on top of that, on top of that,
like you gotta be one of the biggest cornballs in
the world. If if you're playing around like that on
your social media with a gun lighter, yeah, in fact,
you gotta be one of the corniest dudes in the world.
(16:41):
If you're playing around on social media with a real strap,
it's just corny. There's nothing funny about it. There's nothing
cute about it. There's nothing cool about it. If you're
a rapper, I get it. Like you're filming your video,
that's part of the culture. That's what you do. It's
entertainment done. If you're acting, I get it, it's part
(17:03):
of the gig. You know. At some point, guys like
Wesley Snipes maybe took it a little bit too far
riding around with samurai swords on ninja bikes in real life.
And listen, some people take it a little too far.
John Moran took it a little too far. That's just
where I fall on it.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
So this is going to really put to test trust.
Do you trust Wikipedia or do you trust Pro Football Reference.
And here's why I asked that question, because you've explained
this before, but I forgot so bear with me on this,
(17:56):
all right, But which birthday is right? Is it today
June twentieth or is it June thirtieth?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
I'll never tell.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Okay, I'm going to go with June thirtieth. All right, Yeah,
that's the one I'm going to go with, because that's
what you're going with.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
All right.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
So Wikipedia as you had June thirtieth, but Pro Football
Reference as you had June twentieth, And you told us
a story before that you gave out a fake birthday,
or you gave out a birthday that was different, or
there was a grammatical air or something like that.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
That's correct. I gave out a different a different birthday.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Why'd you give out a different birthday?
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Because it was fun to do at the time. And
I was like, you know, the Internet had just become
a thing. Googling people had just become a thing, And
so I changed my birthday one because I was thinking
about identity theft for one, but then for two, I
was really like, on some I wonder like a lot
(18:58):
of people would approach you, like start saying they know
everything about you or their family or this, that and
the other, and they would use like, you know, different
facts to prove it, like oh, I know your your
aunt such and such and data Die. Yeah, I remember
when we were celebrating your birthday and you know, Dada Die.
(19:20):
I was like, oh, when it's my birthday, you know,
oh it's it's a June such and such. I was like, okay,
And I know that they were a little off on
their information, like yeah, you actually probably just googled me
right before you walked up to me, you know, and
looked at my you know, looked at my stats.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Oh, so that was how you knew they were full
of crap.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Sometimes it was just one little little that was subtle.
But you'd be surprised how many times your birthday comes up,
like especially on on the on the one that isn't
your birthday. You know, it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
If you could have picked your birthday.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
I want the one, the one that I have.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Okay, so you're not like because I always feel bad
for people that have a birthday, like right next to
a holiday. What a pain in the ass, because then
you just give people the out, like if you've got
a birthday on December twenty fourth, or even if God
forbid the twenty fifth, it's.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Or even like imagine on like January second, third, four, fifth, sixth, seventh.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Eighth, Like you just get short changed because.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
You got New Year's and you got you know, Christmas.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Yeah, and everybody's broke at that point because they splurged
on Christmas and New Year.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Yeah, like definitely New Year Like what like people people
pull money together to go out and enjoy New Year
New Year's Eve, so and then.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
The second rolls around, they're like, oh damn.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
But if you want to wish next week, you know,
if you want to take a chance and trust one
or the other, you know, you can just wish me
happy birthday on both.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
I mean this is this is what got Brady suspended
in the first place, is not correctly doing your birthdays.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Those are facts.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
So maybe there's the possibility that you'll get suspended because
you're going to mess it up.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
God is got my birthday wrong? Next thing, you know,
man up and vanish like a fart in the wind. Bam,
there are punishments on this show.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Bam.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Talk about the fine system that got you ten dollars.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Right, here well, and by the way, Brady's is going
to get lengthened a little longer because he's not even
here to wish me a birthday if it were my birthday.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Great point, all right, I'm going to add on. It's
like the part on Shawshank when he's talking to do
freight in the hole and he goes, give you another
month to think about it. That's how we're doing, is
two pros and a cup of joe. Though here on
Fox Sports Radio, hey, by the we do have ourselves
a little bit of an update. I know this is
a major story here in the NFL, huge story the
(21:58):
saga of Hardnocks, where the NFL apparently has expanded its
search beyond the four qualified candidates to try and find
anybody somebody please take the reins and be featured on
Hard Knocks. So the Jets, the Bears, and the Saints
have all said publicly they don't want any part of this.
The commanders have an ownership fiasco they're trying to sort out.
(22:21):
Not sure the NFL wants to put them on display
with all that going on, So the NFL apparently has
expanded its search to try and find somebody to be
a part of Hard Knocks, and at some point you
got a style giving CPR to the corpse. It's over.
Hard Knocks is done. Nobody cares, nobody wants to do
it anymore. So now we move on. But it does
(22:42):
bring up the question if you had to pick a
team to be on Hard Knocks, or a couple of
teams you'd be interested in seeing on hard Knocks, who
would they be? Lebar Arrington? If you had your choice,
the NFL came to you and hbok to you and said,
give us, give us some quality candidates and let's see
if we can figure this out together. Who you go with?
Speaker 3 (23:01):
The Pittsburgh Steelers okay, Kansas City Chiefs okay, the Las
Vegas Raiders Okay? Do I need to keep going?
Speaker 1 (23:16):
No?
Speaker 2 (23:16):
I just always curious if you had a couple. Okay,
so you're going Chiefs, Raiders and Steelers. Now what is
the appeal? So in Pittsburgh, is it more Mike Tomlin
because he would be the start.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Yeah, but I think that he would be the star.
But I mean, who better to have as a star
than the person that is the leader of the team,
you know, So everybody feeds off of that. So I
think that that would be truly entertaining to see that
environment behind the scenes, Like, I think that would be
truly truly entertaining. And there is Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin
(23:50):
is like he's a guy. He's a guy, So to
be able to see him behind the scenes, I think
that him and his coach instead, I think that would
be pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Long with the players and then the chiefs. The appeal
would be obviously Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Andy Reid's a character too. Yeah, he was my coach
in every Pro Bowl as I was back when he
kept coming up short, and you know when you come
up short and you end up being the coach in
the Pro Bowl when you're the one game before the
Super Bowl. So he did it like three years in
a row, and he was my He was my Pro
Bowl coach three years in a row. So I got
an opportunity to get to know him on that level
(24:26):
with him coaching us, you know, at the Pro Bowls,
but I went against him twice a year every year
as well, so I got to got to know Andy Reid.
But I think that that's uh, you know, Kelsey is entertaining.
My Homes is definitely. He's also entertaining. I think the
whole Chris Jones thing, I think that would be he
(24:48):
would be entertaining. Well, he would probably you know, reenact
the forty yard Dad, Yeah, in his backyard.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
I think that would be entertaining for some peo people
out there.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Try jogging with a pair of boxing gloves on your
bell buckle. Damn, forty yard dash gets the best of
us every time. Are those everlasts?
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Oh no, oh no, they said so. They said those
under armours were bulletproof. I guess that that wasn't true. Yeah,
they weren't true. Uh, you know, I think that would
be super entertaining, And clearly I think that the Las
(25:42):
Vegas Raiders would be. They might be the most entertaining
out of all of them, because you just have no
idea what the hell is about about to happen in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
By the way, they might be real bad this year.
I'm not kidding. Like, if you look at the Raiders situation,
I don't know how anybody thinks they got better by
getting rid of Derek Carr and the Josh Jacob stuff,
and DeVante Adams has been vocal about it, like I
like Jimmy Garoppolo Derek Carr is a better quarterback than
Jimmy Garoppolo. I'm sorry, and Jimmy Garoppolo's banged up. It
(26:15):
just it feels like that thing could go to your
point in the wrong direction in a hurry, and you
just wonder whether or not they want to showcase that
on it.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
It would be entertaining to see the early, the early
way of how they're doing things before the season gets started. Yeah,
because they if you recalled last year, they were actually
a competitive team. They just kept giving up the leads.
They kept you know, losing at the end of the games.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Oh, like the loss to Arizona and Kyler Murray, Like
that was one of the most improbable losses.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Of the year. Did they had a few games lockedown
that they lost and they lose to the Colts too, Yeah, yeah,
theah was the one loss.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Yeah, that was Jeff Saturday's loan win as head coach
at the Indianapolis Colt.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Did they bring him back as the head coach?
Speaker 2 (27:06):
No, they did not. Yeah, no he's not. I believe
he's fishing somewhere, oh from my understanding, But but yeah,
the Raiders would be a good one. What do you
think about that? I've got a couple I want to
throw at you. The Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Yeah, I would be entertaining.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
I mean, listen, your guy.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
Well, I thought we were going into practice with a
whole lot more energy, but then I realized that we
didn't have the energy.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
I mean, it'd be listen. You get to see Mike
vic day a vape day at Daniel or whatever they
want to call him. Is it it's Mcca.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Mike Vape Daniel. I I don't I don't know, but
you know, everything is cool. I got good players, and
we have a good team, and so we're running do
the best that we can can. You know, he's been
really confident lately too, by the way, so it's like
(28:06):
his confident voice. It's like it's like been like, well,
I think that went really good this year.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
I'm telling you, the season's got to wear him down
before he starts to resort back to.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
I really don't believe that the season is going to
wear me down. I feel really good, Like my voice
is right here right now, it's not dragging like this.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Yeah, here's another one for you. Okay, what you got
the Browns? Well, I want to see HBO days. I
mean subjective massage Watson.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
See, but that would get boring. That would get boring
watching them dance around it because everybody would be sitting there, like,
can we please show massage table? Oh, can somebody please
reference him as massage Watson? Like there's going to be
so many different things that you want to know and
understand that way that aren't going to get discussed that
(28:54):
it would actually be to me, I think that would
be a miss. I think the Browns would be a miss.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
I mean, Defansky kind of looks like a werewolf, so
there is that, and in the middle of training camp
with the sweat flying.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I just don't think too many people outside of the
Cleveland Browns fan base care about Cleveland. I just don't
know that that. Like it's like the book is like
written on them, like they're dysfunctional, Like they took their
dysfunctional level to a whole nother level when they signed
the dysfunctional Uh uh, you know, I don't know what
(29:26):
you call it, but he was dysfunctional in terms of
needing to be more functional. I guess I'll say.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
What about the Seahawks, Pete Carroll, I mean a lot
of energy.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
I mean I think I think I think DK could
carry it, I think, but could he I think he
probably could. There there could be somebody else on the
team that could carry it. I just don't find them
to be largely a and then entertaining team. There's nothing
really entertaining about them. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't be in
(30:07):
on that.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
I was going to throw in like the Giants maybe
with day Ball and you know we've got obviously Daniel
Jones is there.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
But the Saque I think I think that one would
be a little more interesting, just based upon the market
that they're in. Yeah. I think the Jets and the
Giants you can't miss Dallas Cowboys you can't miss. You
can miss out here. You can miss with the Rams
or or the the Chargers. You could miss with them.
(30:39):
But for the most part, I think big market teams.
I don't think that you could go wrong if they
were on there.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Give me the hell Yeah, Bari Rrington, I wanted to
get your thoughts on this because I think it's kind
of interesting and you've got to admire the level of
pettiness and the grudge that is still existing between Jerry
Jones and Jimmy Johnson. So it was announced a couple
of days ago that Jimmy Johnson will be going into
the Miami HURRICANESES Ring of Honor. I mean, as he
(31:56):
should talk about one of the more popular college football
teams or teams period in the world of sports. There
was a culture that existed with Miami Hurricane football back
in the day when Jimmy Johnson that was there, when
when he was there, that was absolutely fantastic, And a
lot of people nationally, I think grew up Miami Hurricane
(32:17):
fans just based on the team, the vibe around the team.
I love the Miami Hurricanes growing up, like they were
so much fun to watch. And so Jimmy Johnson is
going to be honored and he's going to go into
the Ring of Honor, yet he's still not in the
Cowboys Ring of Honor. And it's not like it's a
player's only thing that you know, Gil Brandt is in
(32:37):
the Cowboys Ring of Honor, Like there's there's some other
you know, the Tech Shram, you know, Tom Landry, Like
there's some other people that are there that aren't players
that are in the Cowboys Ring of Honor. And it
just goes to show you the level of pettiness and
the grudge that Jerry Jones still holds against his former
coach Jimmy Johnson.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
You know, he got NFL Hall of Fame, Like he's
an NFL Hall of Famer. Yeah, So at this point
it only makes it only makes Jerry Jones look like
that that he's kind of still harboring, you know, hard
(33:18):
feelings towards that scenario, and I can I can relate
to that. I'm one of the ninety greatest Washington commanders
and I have probably more Pro Bowl appearances than some
of the people up in the Ring of Fame or
Ring of Honor that they have, and I'm not up
in there. You know, it doesn't and I'm not even
(33:42):
a Hall of Famer at the pro level, But that
doesn't bother me. I don't think that that Jerry. I
don't think Jerry Jones bothers jim Jimmy Johnson. At this point,
He's had a successful post coaching career. He's got a
lot of stability, a lot of respect, and a lot
(34:02):
of people believe to this day that Jerry Jones messed
things up by messing with Jimmy Johnson and they've never
really recovered from from that, you know, that time period.
So you know, owners, owners catch a lot of flak
for things that they do in some instances. Players coaches alike,
(34:26):
they catch a lot of flack in other instances. In
some other cases, I think this situation here is like
an easy sit and done. Should he be in the
Ring of honor one hundred percent. He's one of the
most historical figures outside of what Switzerland and Landry to
coach the team. And you know, if you if you
(34:48):
wanted to say it would be difficult to mess up
winning a Super Bowl with the personnel that they had
back then, I would challenge you to look at some
of the personnel teams that they've assembled since that time,
and you could almost argue in some cases and in
some regards, maybe that receiver was more athletic or had
(35:12):
a higher upside than Mike Irving. Maybe you had a
tight end that was going to be a better tight
end than Jay novichk Now, I'm not going to say
you had a better line than their line. I think
their line of scrimmage is arguably one of the greatest
of all time. Yeah, I mean you could stack them
up against a couple other offensive lines, maybe the risk. Well,
(35:35):
when they were that formally known as the Commanders.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
That's when they became an elite team. When that line
was pieced together and Stepanovsky and all those guys, when
that happened, it completely changed the course of the franchise.
They were awesome that offensive line, and sometimes doesn't get
as much credit as maybe they deserve.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
I mean, I know Emmitt Smith and Moose Johnson gives
them all the credit in the world, and so does
true Aikman except for when I was out there with him.
But with that being said, with that being said, there's
no reason for this to be such a tremendously large
conversation because everyone knows the importance that Jimmy Johnson played
(36:17):
in his time in Dallas. So I mean, if you
got hard feelings, have hard feelings, but don't hold that
against somebody who has the accomplishments are still the accomplishments,
you know what I mean. So it would make sense
to the fans, it would make sense for them to
honor him in that way. Again, like I said, it
(36:38):
only makes you. It only reveals how you're you're looking
at things. Because he's already in the Hall of Fame
for the NFL as a whole. So he's good enough
to be an NFL Hall of Famer, which is hollow ground,
but he's not good enough to be in your Ring
of Fame.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
So I think I know when this is gonna happen, Okay, right,
I believe that Jimmy Johnson will get into the Cowboys
Ring of Honor if the Cowboys win another Super Bowl,
because it's got to be far enough removed to where
he's got nothing to do with it, because Jerry Jones
is so hung up on it. And you can go
back to, well, he did it with Barry Switzer and
(37:12):
that was after Jimmy Johnson left. But I think everybody
acknowledges to your point, that was still Jimmy Johnson's team,
that culture there, and it's not to diminish anything that
Barry Switzer did. It's still tough to win a Super Bowl.
Obviously it's rarefied air itself. But I think Jerry Jones
deep down feels like I've got to get another one,
and I've got to get another one far enough removed
(37:33):
from Jimmy Johnson. And I don't think Jimmy Johnson is
going to be acknowledged in the Ring of Honor until
Jerry Jones feels comfortable and doesn't feel insecure when talking
about the Cowboys as Super Bowl champions when Jimmy Johnson's
got nothing to do with it and no fingerprints on
the roster bold at that point.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
But even if they do accomplish winning a Super Bowl
there's always going to be something like no, there's no
getting out of the way of it. I mean, the
accomplishment is the accomplishment.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Shaq and Kobe wanted to win it without the other
one desperately, so when Shack did it, first thing he
did was take a shot at Kobe. When Kobe did
it and then got another one above Shacks four, first
thing he did was take a shot at Shaq in
the postgame press conference, Like, I feel like that's where
these two are at. And I don't think Jerry Jones
(38:22):
is going to acknowledge Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of
honor until he gets one far enough remove without him,
because he's that competitive and that petty about the whole thing. Well,
it's fascinating.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
To me if that's the case, If that is truly
the case after all these years, then you would have
to say there are there are there are some issues
that he would need to address in his life because
you know, you're you're winning at the most massive He's
a billionaire. And I know they say that money doesn't
(38:57):
buy happiness, Yes it does, honey does by happiness. I'm sorry,
like you, I've been broke and I've had money, And
I'm much happier when I have money, like as just
it is what it is and for what that's worth.
Like yes, once you have money, you have to figure
out other things that maintain your happiness or build your happiness.
(39:20):
Like for me, it's helping others, like I love helping others,
Like Jerry, don't worry about if if you win a
Super Bowl without Jimmy Johnson, Like how irrelevant is that.
Look at how much your franchise is worth. Look at
what you've built, Look at what your impact has been
on the National Football League. Damn a super Bowl. Your
(39:43):
impact on the league has been almost as as epic,
if not more epic, than any other owner to ever
own a team in the National Football League. You're winning
on a different level. Like why even lower yourself to
feeling like I have to prove to myself into the
world that those Super Bowls that we won with Jimmy
(40:05):
Johnson's team was not Like I can do it too, Like, Bro,
you made the entire shield more valuable. Yeah, you have
made the entire league mean more. You have delivered teams
to markets that they couldn't even figure out how to
get it done. Yet this is how we're going to
(40:26):
do it. This is who's going to be the owner.
We're going to get them there boom boom boom boom
boom done so far? Like this is Jerry Jones, Like
what are you worrying about the Super Bowl for?
Speaker 2 (40:39):
And also, if you're Jerry Jones, start off small, start
off something reasonable. You want to see progress on your
path to a Super Bowl. Just try get into a
conference championship game for the first time in thirty years.
You know, I mean, like, you gotta start small.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
That's cold blooded. See you needling right now, You're kicking
a man wile he's down. That's cold blooded.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Listen, I'm trying to keep expectations where they're supposed to be.
The fact that you haven't been to a conference championship
game since the mid ninety you.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
A lyon, but but you're not telling an inaccurate deal here.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
I mean, listen, there are two teams in the NFL
that are the butt of a lot of jokes over
the years. It's the Jaguars and the Jets, and both
of them have been to multiple conference championship games, and
the Cowboys haven't been since the mid nineties.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
You are funny I'm just saying, you are flaming them
right now.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
So maybe if if that, if you can get to
that point and you hang up an NFC championship appearance,
banner up it?
Speaker 3 (41:29):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (41:29):
And then what happened?
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Maybe you make it, you make it to the super Bowl,
you win a super Bowl? What happens next? You know,
Jerry Jones died, does he like disappear and the into
thin air? Like what happens?
Speaker 2 (41:42):
It's gonna get to the point where when he does
finally invite Jimmy Johnson to be honored, Jimmy Johnson's gonna
be like, man, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Is it is? It?
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Is?
Speaker 3 (41:49):
It?
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (41:50):
Uh? Is it correct to say that when they grab
the it would be incorrect to say what what youry
rice did when Steve Young finally won his Super Bowl
after after a Joe Montana left. Would that be incorrect
to do what they did to Steve Young? Oh?
Speaker 2 (42:12):
Just like take the monkey off the back, you know,
like all the pressure you just.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
Run right in that burning building.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Because I knew I would clarify it.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
I not only grabbed the monkey off of his back. Well,
who the hell is the monkey? What's the name of
that monkey? That was on his back.
