Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's how kicked the coverage here Fox Sports Radio,
Jonas Knox and Brady Quinn, and coming up on the show,
we have bad news for a lot of Tebow fans
out there. But what does it say about the state
of the Jaguars franchise and where Urban Meyers stands with
the organization. We'll get to that here coming up. Also,
Brady Quinn has got another swinging Joe blow reference. Find

(00:21):
out who he's alluding to this time around. Jamal Adams
gets paid, but did the Seahawks actually win the negotiation?
The Deshaun Watson situation gets even weirder. Josh Rosen continues
to get screwed over in the NFL, a strange decision
by one NFL franchise, and another edition of Headliner Lie.

(00:42):
All of that is coming up next year. It's Brady Quinn,
Jonas Knox and you. I'll kick the coverage Fox Sports Radio.
I'll kick the coverage live every weekday morning from six
to nine a m. E star three to six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. Finds your local station for
OutKick the coverage at Fox Sports Radio dot com or
stream us live every morning on the I Heart Radio app.

(01:03):
By searching fs are you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
We will take you all the way up until nine
am Eastern times, six o'clock Pacific, And we do so
with the man himself, Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only,
the golfer, the Foundation Extraordinaire, the one and only Brady Quinn. Yeah, Jonas,

(01:30):
I gotta tell you it was. It was a great
few days for those who don't know. I've got a
foundation that works with wounded veterans and this time of
year is really our biggest time to have a golf outing,
which is our annual fundraiser. You have attended that we
call it the Blue Jacket. The reason we call it
the blue jacket is because we give out a blaze

(01:51):
er a blue blazer, almost like it's Augusta. Okay, just
imagine imagine Augusta for a second. Al Right, crowds all
around as we go to dawn, our blue jacket winner
with that almost like they had a gust with a
green jacket. But it's a blue Jacket's a very cheap
looking royal blue blaze or a blue jacket that we

(02:13):
down on the guy who looks like or female for
that matter, who looks like he's having a good time,
maybe the best time if anyone at that particular event.
But some sad news this year. We didn't give it
out this year. And I told the crowd before that,
I said, look, there's a standard that needs to be met. Okay,

(02:34):
our inaugural winner of the Blue Jacket and put a
golf cart in a pond. Now, that same individual may
have won a Super Bowl, a national championship during his
time at Ohio State. I'm not gonna name names. Okay,
I'm not gonna name names. You know, maybe the old
time leading tackler in Green Bay Packer history to the
best of my knowledge, um, but that that first year win,
I m gonna put a golf cart in a pond.

(02:54):
We had a few other people who they hit a
ball into the pond, they just go swim right and
after it. So we've got a standard to live up to.
And I told all those out that, I said, I'm
not feeling it today. I wasn't feeling the energy. It
felt like it was a little you know, I wasn't
sure how it was gonna go, and no one separated themselves.
And I said, I hate to say that, it's the
first time in eleven years we did not give away

(03:16):
a blue jacket. Now here's the problem. I felt terrible
about it, all right, there's some people who are upset
by it. And you know what happened is they went
from our day event into our night golf event because
we have a glow in the dark golf ball night,
you know, night golf event, and people got absolutely mangled.
I mean mangled to the point where I was like, well,

(03:37):
now we could have had maybe two or three winners
at the end of that, but it's really only for
the day event. But nonetheless a great time. We raised
over a hundred twenty thousand dollars for our foundation for
our veteran programs. Uh. That was just the golf event.
We had a beer pong event, We had another attendant,
a bar there for a little bit. So in total,

(03:57):
in totality, almost a hundred forty thousand dollars were raised
over the course this past week. And so it was.
It was successful. Was a fun time. Let me ask
you this, is it the same jacket every year? Like winner,
I have to give it back? Okay, no, no, no, no,
the winner gets their own. The winner gets their own.
We literally we we've got a we've got a guy
who sends them to us. Again, they're not nice by

(04:20):
any means. In fact, they smell a little bit when
they come from wherever they're manufactured, but that's beside the point.
They do get their own jacket. And so for you,
what do you were like a forty two are? Yeah,
I mean it depends. I could go forty two, right, Yeah,
I just I need the hour glass approach. So if

(04:40):
that means I got to hold my breath to keep
my gut in for the entire event, and that's that's
what I gotta do. But I needed to be very
tight in the back, and I need that hour glass look.
And as long as it's not some jacket that somebody
had the year before and it smells and at least
it's been dry clean, I'm willing to go use. See.
I don't know if you know this or not, but
I did grow up, you know, shopping at thrift stores.

(05:01):
I mean that that was the thing back in the day.
So I have no problem boring used materials. Yes, so
it's it's not used now we do. Like like my
wife Alicia, she has one. Um, I'm not sure why
she got one. Because she's never gotten she's never really
participated in the actual event, but she's still got one.
And then we've we've got our other past winners who

(05:22):
have there's I'll be honest with you, a lot of
them end up losing it because they're they're so mangled
that will end up sending it to them. They'll wear
it like another year to come back, and they actually
will never even They'll end up leaving it somewhere or
they'll fall into a trash canon and then the rest
is history. So that's usually how it works, but this
year was one of the more tame events. I think

(05:42):
part of the issue is is as I've gotten older,
still have you know, kind of a lot of my buddies,
and then the other group that that comes to the event,
my uncle brings in a big slew of guys. They're
getting older too, So it's almost like the problem is
we're an aging demographic of golfers that we got us
start recruiting younger. You know, we gotta start going younger
for the crazier crowd. But I'm not sure even the

(06:04):
younger kids are that crazy anymore, you know, I think
they're just in the video games and stuff well, And also,
I mean it's probably a safe thing because you know,
with cameras these days, I mean, it's one thing to
tell the tale of somebody driving a golf cart into
a lake and a charity outing, it's another thing to
actually witness it on camera, and you would just open
yourself up to that much criticism and that much scrutiny.

(06:24):
And I don't know if you guys want any of
that noise. You know, see the difference for us and
the golf car was an accident. It really was an accident.
They put it on the side of a hill. They
thought they had the parking break engaged, it wasn't, and
then it literally just slid right back in um and
and unfortunately, once that thing gets in the water, it's
it's pretty heavy and hard to move out. So the

(06:47):
rest was history. But look, I mean, at the end
of the day, it's all for a good time. It's
all for a good cause, So we're not so worried
about whatever pushed back, And that particular course was actually
really nice about it. They did just say we don't
want you guys to come back again. So yeah, I
mean listen, yeah, I mean listen. I do think it is.
It's a wonderful thing you guys put together. You do
it every single year. Now, Now the weather wasn't an issue.

(07:08):
You guys were able to get your full round of
golf in Mother Nation. Shockingly, shockingly, the weather played no issue. Somehow,
the golf gods had our back. And as the day
went on, the weather got better and better. In fact,
by the end of the day it actually got sunny
and kind of hot and humid. And so if anything,
there are people who were like, man, it's it's hot,

(07:30):
it's human out. But it was. It was a fun day,
it really was. Um. We had a bunch of people
out there participating, raised a bunch of funds. Uh, and
that's that's always the goal. Yeah. Well, I mean, look,
I don't know if this is something that's going to
be available or open to anybody next year. But you know,
I mean, if you if you did want you know,
another participant, or you wanted somebody there, well, the in

(07:53):
fight was there this year, but that there were there
were some people who just decided to turn it down. Well,
I wouldn't say me. I was saying that you're not
built for that, are you. No? No, no, no, no, no no, No,
I was just saying, I mean, if there is a
spot left and a spot available, I was just saying
that there was somebody, most recently with the Jacksonville Jaguars
who might be interested in participating next year. Of course. Yeah,

(08:17):
I mean, you know, a special team is probably not
the the approach to take for this individual, but you know,
maybe they can swing a golf club. Um, they were scrutinized.
They couldn't really make you know, much of a block
while trying to seal off a run play in a
preseason game. But they are. They are open and available
and ready to participate next year. If that's something that
you're interested in, and I know, you know you have

(08:37):
a relationship with Urban Myers, maybe there could be a
you know, a conversation had about seeing what he thoughts
about this individual participating next year. Just yeah, well you
know again it's uh, these are two completely separate subjects.
But we'll talk to older, we get we'll get evaluation
of everything. Yeah, I'm just saying, I mean, because you know,
it didn't work out for Tim Tebow, so it's I

(09:00):
myself am out of a little bit of money because
I thought for sure he was going to be at
the Jack's roster week one, but it all took his
one game, a little bit of heat on social media,
and he gone, Uh, Tim Tebow, the experiment that never
was is gone from the Jacksonville Jaguar. So here we go.
I gotta figure out a way to make more money
on week one because I just lost that bet. Unbelievable.

(09:22):
Here's where I was really really surprised is how fast
they decided to move on. I know, give another game
at least. That's what I'm saying is you're looking at
a thirty year old quarterback converted to tight end who
hasn't played football, mind you, in years, and you're not
going to give him more than just one preseason game.

(09:43):
I mean, it used to be where the fourth preseason game,
the very last one, you had only backups and guys
who maybe we're making your your back end off your roster,
but probably practice squad, but most likely we're gonna get cut.
That was who played. Now I get I I know
we don't have four preseason games anymore, but still the
last preseason game is just gonna be that now that

(10:06):
we have three, and the fact that they wouldn't let
him see if he can improve from game one to
gave the game three. It leads me to believe this.
I think he might have been part of it too.
I think there might have been a conversation where you know,
Urban or coach Meyer, have you want to address him,

(10:26):
talked to Tim and they had an honest conversation, and
I think maybe even Tim said like, yeah, I don't
think I want to do this because it's nothing against
like the technique or what he was trying to do
out there. I played with Tim. I know the type
of effort and type of tannasty and passion he has
for the game, and the type of competitor he is.

(10:47):
I was I was surprised watching the game, watching back
to the footage I and I was surprised only because
there are times it looked like it was more effort
related and and that was what I think made me
kind of step back. Can say it. I we all
know it was gonna be a transition. I mean, hell,
we look at Logan Thomas, who again a former quarterback
in front of the tight end, who is now one

(11:08):
of the better tight ends in the league, and we say, well,
Tim can do that. Well, yeah, but he's not gonna
have four or five years to be able to do
that behind the scenes while no one else is paying attention.
And he's older than when Logan Thomas made that transition.
So that was the surprising thing to me was watching it, thinking, well,
even on a two minute throw that you know, we

(11:29):
kind of made fun of and everyone, oh, everyone's sold
the pass from him all that, It wasn't that he
was supposed to be, you know, crossing the you know,
the face of the post safety defender and he stopped,
and it was like he should know better at that point.
He was a quarterback. He understands those route concepts. So
it was that it was the effort and that's where, like,
I'm not trying to be hard on him, it was
just I wonder if he also got to a point

(11:51):
in the game where he kind of he just realized
that he doesn't want to do it anymore. And that's
perfectly fine. It's almost I mean, I'm not trying to
make comparison to Simone Biles and why she stopped and
all that, but like, you know, he might have gotten
to the point where he just said, this was my
one shot to do it with the coach that I've
won with believes in me, gave me the opportunity to

(12:13):
do it in my near my hometown. I'm gonna make
some money from all this, and he and he tried
for a few months to adapt the position, and maybe
he realized like this isn't for me, Like this isn't
something I want to do. So I think that's one
aspect of it. And then there's the locker room and
what you discussed. The the heat that I think was

(12:33):
on the Jacksonville Jaguars urban Meyer for signing and signing
him in the first place, and and really putting themselves
in a position where, depending on how he looked, they
were going to be scrutinized. There's no doubt about it.
I mean I thought they were doing it for ticket
sales though. I mean that's what everyone was saying, that
they were doing this for ticket sales. I mean that
that was that was the whole point of all this.

(12:55):
I know this from working with coach Meyer. He holds
and this is even before um we had obviously worked
together at Fox, but he holds everyone to an extremely
high standard and if they don't reach that, you know
there's gonna be changes and you're gonna feel the pressure
if you don't come out and give it your best
every single time. And I don't care if that's in

(13:16):
broadcasting or football, whatever else. That's what he demands from
people like I truly believe this has probably been the
worst week of Darryl Bevl and Brian Schodheimer's life because
I think he's been that hard on the offensive side
of the ball after their performance in the first preseason
game versus Cleveland to get this thing right, because that
was the first impression and he's big on that. And

(13:39):
and I guess my only thing is from playing in
the league and being around it. It's so insignificant what
you do in the preseason, it really is. And if anything,
you want to be kind of building up throughout preseason
instead of, you know, worrying about coming out and having
a great display your first preseason game. But I think
the abum is as he's trying to develop this culture.

(14:03):
When you see all those clips come out and you
see those plays from Tim, he's saying, I'm trying to
set this culture. I brought him in for that reason,
for that reason, to help build this culture and build
this environment in Jacksonville, because my prior experience of success
with him, and he's trying to make this transition and

(14:23):
I gave him a shot, but it's not looking like it.
And I can't allow that to be out there or
to continue to keep happening if I'm trying to build
a championship team, because that's not what we're looking for.
And I think that's the hard part from the professional
side of this, between Urban and Tim Tebow is they
obviously are tremendously close and they live next to each

(14:44):
other and all of that, but he's also trying on
this new venture to start a new culture. In order
to do that, it's gonna be tough, it's gonna be rigid,
and this is probably one of the toughest decisions I
think that that Urbans probably had to either check off
on or make and talking to Tim Tebow and cutting
Tim Tebow, and also he talked about special teams that

(15:05):
you know, Tim Tebow not you know, being able to
tackle what was one of the and and Reminer alluded
to this earlier in the off season, earlier in training camp,
and I think people scoffed at it and said, okay, whatever,
you're going to drop it. Well, no, like he had
He's never really tackled before, so so you expect him
to go out there and you know, produce on special teams.
He didn't really have an opportunity to And I don't

(15:27):
even know if there was if he even played a
snap on special teams. In the opener, like I think
he was out there. They gave it a look. It
didn't go well. But to your point, Tim Tebow had
to have at least been part of the discussion, because
if I'm not mistaken, he's the guy who tweeted it
out and and and made the announcement. He was one
of the initial people to go out and make it,
you know, send it out and let everybody know, appreciate

(15:48):
the opportunity. It didn't work out, and now you move on.
I mean, I give the guy credit for trying. Man.
I know a lot of people happy to see him cut,
but but I give the guy credit for trying. What
the hell is the harm in him wanting to get
out there and Tefn can say if he still has
it or if he can produce at any at any point,
and he just didn't happen, man. I mean, and the
same thing with baseball. I mean, look that the guy
was young enough and athletic enough to give it a

(16:10):
shot and obviously has enough fame where someone's going to
give him a shot. And and so I think the
interesting thing now is does he stop or does he continue?
You know, where does he feel like he's in his
life to either try to you know, keep working on it,
go to go through Because he humbled himself to do
the baseball thing, like he was literally playing in the
minor leagues, and so when you think about that, like

(16:32):
that's a rough way to live, man, like playing in
small towns, right on a bus and all that. And
then you know, he put himself in a position to
do this, and so would he be willing to keep
working on that craft in order to make a roster
whether it's later this year or two years down the road.
And then that's why I feel like they don't really
didn't put him in a great position, because he should

(16:54):
have gotten another game or two. And I wouldn't have
played him that much in this game. I know they've
got to make downs and all that, but if he's
a guy that maybe you bring back on your practice
squad and maybe that's still open to it, or maybe
that that you know that door shut and that that's
why I think we're going to figure this all out.
As far as if it was really just a matter
of jackson Will saying he's he's not worth it for us,

(17:16):
or if it's it's more of his decision, I think
if he chooses not to pursue this anymore any longer
with any other team in the NFL or any other
league for that matter, or even if he is not
brought back on practice squad at some point, I think
then you know that it was probably more in his
heart too, that he just said I'm done, like I
need to move on to the next thing in my life.

(17:36):
And maybe this wasn't also just about Jacksonville. Maybe it
was an honest conversation with tim An and Urban saying,
you know, hey, this isn't gonna work out, and it's
gonna take longer than we think. You know, let's just
move Let's just move on our separate ways. Coming up next, though,
there's somebody in the NFL who got paid. But how
did we get here? That's the interesting question. We'll get

(17:56):
into all of that for you. It's I'll kick the
coverage right here, Fox Sport train EO. This this is
OutKick the coverage about ten minutes from now. It is
a story in the NFL that continues to get more
and more confusing, I mean more and more confusing as
the days go by. We can't get a clear answer.
We're hearing rumors, we're hearing reports, We're hearing a back

(18:18):
and forth playout in the media. But here we are again.
One team has no idea whether or not this quarterback
is going to be on the roster come week one
still does not make sense. But you know, this is
this is the way of the world when it comes
to the NFL. Brady Quinn. It's always fun. Like I swear,
we're getting to a point where they almost like these
suspense I'm telling you it's it's it's like it's almost

(18:42):
like the new version of soap operas, you know, Days
of Our Lives or The Young and the Restless. You know,
it's it's kind of like that listen, uh you know,
and you don't you don't know this world, but telenovelas,
you know, telenovelas are yeah, that's the Mexican soap operas
were you know what I'm talking about, right, don't tell novelas, Yeah, yeah,

(19:02):
those others are big time. Yeah, the big time in
the old Knox House over here, and it's some of
the worst television I've ever seen in my life. Unbelievable, shocking.
That my wife can sit through the scenery is fantastic though.
You know, well, if that's the case, I'll just watch
the weather reports. By the way, I'm just giving you

(19:24):
the heads up when when I was when I was
paying attention to see whether or not you were going
to have a golf tournament in Dublin, Ohio, I was
trying to get the weather in Dublin from the reports
in Mexico. Yeah, not not even close the same. It is.
It definitely is, but you know, I mean there is.
You know, everybody's got an approach to their hiring tactics

(19:44):
and uh watching have a bag of Funan's you know,
you're not really doing much. Your hands are gonna be busy,
you know. Yeah, you know, yeah, that is that's a
good well defense, you know, anybody the door locked, all right,
So m Brady, by the way, somebody would like some clarity.
They wanted me to explain the Tebow bet Uh. This

(20:06):
is how it worked. Tim Tebow to make the Jaguars
roster if you remember when we when we were first
talked about this, when he first this first idea came
out that he was going to sign with Jacksonville, there
was a bet whether or not he be on the
active roster week one, and it was about even money.
And then as he got to camp and you heard
more people talk about it, it was kind of swaying

(20:27):
back and forth to where he was a little bit
of a favorite to make the roster, and then then
he wasn't a favorite to make the roster, and then
after the one preseason game, all of a sudden, his
his odds dropped dramatically and he was a plus three
forty I think it was, or a plus three seventy five,
which meant if you've bet a hundred dollars, or in
my case, if you bet ten dollars, you would win

(20:49):
thirty seven dollars if Tebow made the roster week one,
which means he was a significant underdog to do so well,
that didn't happen, So that bet is lost. So here
we are. Yeah, look, I apologize. I feel like I
may have helped gas that up a little bit for
some parts that I really thought practice squad, I told
you I thought it made so much sense, you know,
given the relationship with Urban, given you know, I know

(21:11):
we talked about him not participating in special teams, but
he also could be that kind of wildcat back type thing,
especially on short yardage and all. We've seen that before.
Like I really thought, you know, they would have other
plans for him, especially in case of an emergency, like
if Trevor Lawrence gets hurt and if you don't believe
in Minshew as the backup um and they bring someone

(21:33):
else in or they need some other changeup, like you've
got that guy that you could maybe eventually bring up
and and and help you get through a game or
help you get through uh, you know, preparing for a
guy who's got a little more athleticism and all that.
So I don't know. I think there was some reason
that you could have made a case from on the
practice squad, but uh, again, it's kind of sad if
this is the end. It's kind of sad. It never

(21:54):
ends how you wanted to end, or I should say
ninety nine percent at a time, it doesn't end how
you wanted to. You know, if if you look at
him and say he's one of the greatest college football
players ever, you'd be right, and and then from that
point moving forward, it's kind of like, well, you know
what happened, And the reality is, it's just it's a
different game in the NFL. It requires a different set

(22:15):
of skills that don't always translate from college football. That's
I always say, we get to the draft and we
automatically start saying, well, this guy can't do this, this
I can't do that. It's like, dude, they just did
at the college level, which a fraction of the percentage
of people out there couldn't do. Right, all those Joe
blows in high school who couldn't make it, they didn't

(22:35):
get a scholarship are scoffing at the guy because they
don't feel like it could be a great draft prospect.
It's like, well, looking, he did in college, Like at
least appreciate that. At least now these kids are gonna
have a little extra money too from n I L
to throwback and those Joe blows face, what's all said.
If you're gonna say, Joe Blow, could you do it
the right way? Like how you did it the first
time you brought up Joe Blow on the show. Remember,

(22:58):
Remember the exact terminology used every swinging Joe blow, which
which which? Which? I think was you in the moment
realizing I can't say the F word, So let me
just go to the what what other club do I
have in my bag? And swinging with the other one
that every swing those Bruce Arians the dump button. Yeah,

(23:18):
listen that that is the case. All right, So Brady Quinn,
Jonas snucks, it's outcap but coverage here Fox Sports Radio.
I listen, and that's the thing. You come in, You
open up hot talking about the great thing you do,
you know, as part of your foundation, all the wonderful
people that you're able to help with your foundation. And
then we come all the way back around and we
realize that you inside your your club of you know

(23:41):
U words that you can't use here on Fox Sports Radio.
You just replace the F word with swinging. And that
is the sort of a sort of sports talk radio
in the middle of August. You've come to know and
love here for myself and Brady Quinn on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, So Brady Quinn, Jamal Adam got paid. He

(24:02):
got paid. He wanted to contract, he wanted to get paid,
and he did so. And now you are are big
on the it's all about the guaranteed money. You have
taught me that in the world of NFL contracts. But
apparently Jamal Adams gets the four year what is it
to seventy two million dollar deal? Seventy seventy two million
dollar deal, but most noteworthy, thirty eight million dollars guaranteed.

(24:26):
He becomes the NFL's quote unquote highest paid safety. So
Jamal Adams is staying put in Seattle. Yeah, and you
thought they might come to an agreement at some point
before the season, because here's what happens when you try
to show up, which Jamal Adams did, him and Dwayne
Brown both, but we're trying to kind of not to
participate quite as much and then putting pressure on the

(24:47):
team to sign him to a new deal before the
season starts. But the hard thing is you're there, so
they already know that you've gone this far, and as
the season is starting to get closer and closer, it's
kind of your proverbial deadline. And what happens is the
team knows you're gonna accept at some point a lowball

(25:07):
offer because that lowball offer is still better than the alternative.
And that's playing and you know, running the risk of
you going out there and getting hurt this season and
not being able to accept that offer. I mean, think
about was a denistrator for for the Lakers Shrewder excuse me,
and what he ended up bussing with the Lakers and

(25:28):
what's he what he makes in free agency. Now, again,
there could be more of that story. I don't want
to read into that and making an apples apples comparison,
but that's always the risk you run as an athlete,
is their injury risk. And also if you don't play
well and then you know saying yeah, we're okay, we're
that offers no longer there anymore. You know, we're not
gonna pay as much as we were going to before
that season. So those are the risk that you run.

(25:49):
And I'm sure he's happy about this deal, at least
on the outside. We haven't seen all the details yet,
but not quite forty million guarantees. I believe I saw
his like thirty eight something like that. It's he was
going to accept their last best offering. And this is
probably that, I mean, we have, but I thought the
story or the detail of the story with Dennis Shrewder
was the fact that he was willing to give up

(26:10):
eighty five million dollars not to play with Lebron James.
I thought that was that was your story. I don't
I don't know that anyone else. Actually, yeah, I don't
know that anyone else actually in the world, said, I've
just asked the questions here. I mean I I thought
that that was the the most noteworthy portion of that
of that story. But I digress here. Um, so he

(26:32):
you mentioned so he shows up to camp and you
kind of lose a little bit of your bargaining power
when it comes to trying to get a deal done.
What's interesting about this is, so yesterday I was reading
in the Seattle Times where they gave details of the
contract that had been offered and and the detail of
the contract that was was offered was and and the

(26:53):
reason why there was a sort of waiting on on
getting it done or back and forth, was that in
the Seattle Times reported in the last week that the
Seahawks had an offer on the table for four years
seventy two million dollars and that the guaranteed money was
thirty eight million, but that it was Jamal Adams and
his side that was arguing because they wanted forty million

(27:15):
dollars and that was the sticking point. Well, he ended
up settling for the thirty eight million dollars that they
were offering. So maybe this is just the case of
of the Seattle Seahawks, sayne, listen man, this is what
we got. And and one of the other reports that
I saw thrown out there yesterday was that Seattle had
basically told Jamal Adams and in his camp, we'll just

(27:37):
do one year deals, like if we've got to use
the franchise tag, we'll use the franchise tag. But this
is our final offer. We're not caving on an extra
two million dollars guaranteed, which is surprising to me because
I thought that Russell Wilson was the guy going to
bat for Jamal Adams to try and get him that
extra two million dollars. So I'm a little surprised that
they weren't able to get that extra two million dollars guaranteed,

(27:58):
based on I think it would rustle throughout that offer,
they're just like, Okay, you stay over there, buddy, you
just you stay out of this. Sorry, we've had enough
of you this offseason. You and talking about going to
New York and everywhere else and and giving us your
list of teams you want to go to. Yeah, we're
we're not gonna entertain this whole deal and come back
to the negotiation table with you that only that only

(28:20):
makes things messier. You know, it's like bringing in the
third party to that whole situation. Not like I said,
I mean, I think it's again, it sounds, it seems petty,
but teams do it all the time. They do it
all the time. We're they're willing to try to get
a million here there or a two million there, and
it doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up
when you look at the entire roster and you do

(28:42):
that with the fifty three men um and and you
know other guys you're negotiating with, I mean, even think
about it. Even on practice squads. You know, they could
be paid like they're on the active roster. That could
be something that you negotiate, but not all teams will
do it. And so you know whatever the practice squad
you know, roster players making nowadays is, which might be
like twinter grand, they can make up to the league minimum,

(29:04):
which is closer to five thousand, and it doesn't seem
like a big difference between two, especially if you want
to keep a guy you really like, you maybe got
plans to bring up at some point during the season.
They'll let those guys go. They'll let them go somewhere
else and and sign somewhere else to be on their
active roster off their practice squad, And that happens all
the time, and that guy goes on to be a
Pro Bowl caliber players. So it's not surprising. The teams

(29:28):
always have all the leverage. And that's what they were
basically doing and saying is, yeah, go ahead and play.
If you want to play this thing out, We're willing
to do one year deals, one year at a time.
Go ahead. And and the other thing was is he
was looking at being looked at this is the best
part as a linebacker as opposed to a safety, because
the linebacker contracts are better because they could include those

(29:49):
outside linebackers who are edge rushers. And then and he
makes the case that based on a sack production and
there's a list of other players that you know, we're
in that you know in that mix that he's more
sacks over in the last couple of seasons, and he
didn't leave the team in sacks last year. So it's
kind of funny to use the stat even though he
doesn't line up enough on the edge of the line

(30:10):
of scrimmage to make that case. But it's it's a
pretty funny tactic that they tried. What do you mean
to work for? Levy on Belm Ever, he wanted to
be a wide receiver. Jimmy Graham has made that case.
A tight end says a wide receiver. It's like, well,
if that's the case, hey, Jimmy, why why don't you
just say you're a basketball player? Because they get paid
way bold body, like just go out there and be like, well,

(30:30):
if you see me dunk and shoot a three, like
you should pay me like the NBA guys like those guys.
An average player, it gets like eighty million. Yeah, I
didn't think about that. By the way, practice squad players
last checked, um four hundred dollars a week minimum. That's
the minimum you know, if they're if they're on the
pack practice squad, so a week. It's not bright man,

(30:51):
did you do the math on that on that? Okay?
Well no, no, I mean how much that actually is annualized?
Like how much they'd make an entire season. Um, no,
I didn't get that far. So yeah, I mean it's
like it's it's like a hundred forty three thousand approximately.
That's not bad. No, that's that's what I'm saying. But
but here's the thing is if you have a guy
you felt really good about that, Like Geno Atkins. Geno

(31:13):
Atkins played on the practice squad forever for the Bengals.
I think it was on there for like three years.
Remember Arian Foster. Aaron Foster was on the practice squad
like that for a while in Houston before he got
a shot. There's players where that happens. But like they'll
they'll have an offer to go another team, and and
then and the agent will come to the team and
they'll say, you like, we don't want to we don't
want to leave here, but we will if you're not
gonna pay us what they'd be making on active roster elsewhere.

(31:36):
And teams will let guys go all the time instead
of spending extra three hundred grand to keep what is
potentially a really good player. Uh, he's Brady Quinn. I'm
Jonas Knocks. It's how kick the coverage here on Fox
Sports radiol right. Coming up, next, we're going to get
into one of the more strange stories in recent NFL history.
It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but we'll have the
latest on that for you. It's out Kick the Coverage

(31:57):
Fox Sports Radio. This is I'll kick the Coverage. Hey,
what's up everybody? It's me three time pro bowler Lavarrington
and I couldn't be more excited to announce a new
podcast called Up on Game. What is Up on Game?

(32:17):
You asked, along with my fellow pro bowler t J.
Hudhman's OTTA and Super Bowl champion. That's right, Plexico Birds.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game. We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with Me, LaVar Arrington, t J.

(32:39):
Hudgman's OTTA, and Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app,
Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast from. All
right to Brady Quinn, I am completely confused. I don't
get it. I truly do not understand what is happening

(32:59):
with the Shahn Watson in the Houston, Texans. Um. This
whole thing is bizarro world, through and through and The
latest is you've got Tony Busby, who represents you know,
the accusers against Deshaun Watson, saying that the FBI has
opened an investigation. Now you've got Deshaun Watson's representative, Rusty Harden, saying, no,

(33:22):
that is not the case. He's denying that. So he's
called a press conference for later on today, I believe
to where he's going to clear up some things. Deshaun
Watson was absent from practice yesterday, and then you've got
David Coley, the head coach, saying, well, he wasn't injured,
but he just wasn't at practice. I'm completely confused. I

(33:43):
don't get it. I don't understand what's happening. What the
hell is going on with the Deshaun Watson situation in Houston.
These are the days of our lives. That's that's kind
of way. It's all the drama goes along with it.
But like, I don't know either. I'm not even sure
what to mak it at this point. I just the
weird thing to me is that theory that like the

(34:03):
Texans are hoping and praying they can make this better
and he'd want to come back. It was like, I
mean they haven't really ever come out in his defense
during this whole time. I'm not I'm not really sure
how they feel. And he's stated before this all happened,
and maybe even when he said that he don't want
to play with the Texans anymore, he knew that might

(34:25):
be coming. I mean, obviously this has been a long
time coming, or at least what's been going on has
been going on for years, so maybe he had an
inclination that this was potentially gonna happen. But whatever the
case may be, the theory that he's gonna be out
there for Houston, or Houston's praying that he's gonna change
his mind all of a sudden, I don't get it, Like,

(34:47):
I have no idea why he would all of a
sudden change, especially since they hadn't been like adamantly really
having his back outside of you know, maybe in this instance,
kind of covering for him. I mean, David Cully's saying
he's not there, but not specifically why. I mean, maybe
they're helping him sort through all of this. I know
he's an unbelievable talent, and so I'm sure Houston's hoping

(35:09):
that he'll want to stick around and maybe help them
win some football games. And at this point they already
owe him a ton of money and they're not getting
the offer they want for him, and so there's there's
really nothing that Deshaun Watson can do. There's nothing that
the Houston Texans can do. And the crazy thing to
me is that I think what's honestly holding a lot
of this up right now is the NFL not determining

(35:32):
whether or not he should be put in the example list.
Like I really feel like Deshaun Watson and his crew
thought if he showed up, he'd avoid the fine, it
would force the NFL to to do something and they
would take action and put him on the example list,
and then that would basically alleviate all of the issues
that he's now saying that he has to be there

(35:54):
every day around his teammates with stuff still coming out,
and on top of that having to, you know, talk
to the media or having to deal with the media.
I really feel like they thought if he showed up,
that the NFL would do something and act swiftly to
put them on the exemplest until this is sorted out,
and they're not doing it. They're like they're not budging
and I don't know. I don't know if that's just

(36:15):
their own prerogative and they've tried to do the best
investigation that they have and they can, and they haven't
found enough to put them the exemp list, or they're
waiting on the legal process to take its course, which
could take a long time. But no, not how you
slice this up. The only thing that I think that
will show progress is either either a settlement by Deshaun Watson,

(36:38):
which I'm not sure why that hasn't taken place at
this point unless he just feels like he's completely he
you know, you know, wants to go through the legal
process to clear his name, or or the NFL coming
in and put him on the exemplist because at least
teams who are trading for him and the Houston Texans
they kind of know what the situation is now because
that's still lingering and hanging over Deshan's head there, head

(37:00):
and anything that would trade for him. Alright, So we're
three weeks away from the season starting, Um, are we
going to get an answer in the next three weeks?
Because if we don't have an answer and they're still
looking into this, then it's very possible we open up
week one of the Houston Texans, and what is he
going to be on the sidelines? Is he gonna be
standing there and just street clothes? Is he gonna be?

(37:22):
I mean, what do we look like? The the optics
of this are gonna be so bizarre. It's gonna be
so strange that we don't have an answer. There's an
investigation going on, there's trade conversations that have happened, and
Deshaun Watson standing on the sidelines in an NFL game
and it feels like this could have been handled months ago.
Now they've kind of drugged their feet about it. But
that's not surprising. I mean that the NFL tends to

(37:43):
do that from time to time. But it's not gonna
I mean, nothing's gonna really display itself here the next
couple of weeks, I don't think unless who knows what
Tony Buzzy's gonna say next, you know, it's it's a
weird situation, but our two exterior at fs are be
