Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the best of two pros and a couple of
Joe with LaVar areas Rady Quinn and Jonas knocks on radio.
How could you not be ready? Come on week five
of the NFL kicking off later on tonight. How bad
it hot? Yeah, it's the disappointment ball. Yes, it's the
(00:22):
disappointment ball. Come on. I don't know if we're there
yet with tonight's game, But do you mean, like, through
the first four weeks, though we've had the most games
within a three point margin of victory in NFL history, Like,
there's a lot of parody right now in the damn
right there is most two and two teams I believe
we've had and I don't know how long. And you
know that just means that a lot of degenerate flunkey
(00:43):
gamblers are just sweating their balls off watching these games
down to the wire, needing to break, needing, to cover needing,
some sort of a play that's being made. By the way,
if you degenerate, make sure you go to Draft Kings,
because right now, Denver is a three and a half
point favorite, hosting Indianapolis later on tonight. So there's a
couple of betting numbers feed me, come on home. Underdogs
(01:06):
seventeen ten and one against the spread, this shift at sixty.
I believe that the math is underdogs in general against
the spread so far. So look, usually math people would
say it's gonna start to revert to them, mean at
some point, like you'll see those numbers start to come down,
But so so, so far, the dogs have had their day. Man.
(01:29):
Let's say, listen, it's a doggy dog world there, LaVar, right,
this is what we do. We bet on the dogs.
That's right, and keep going. That's right, dog, Come on, LaVar,
get fired up with week five. Let's go ye around.
We don't need to hate. Let me ask you this,
who do you think Peyton Manning's rooting for tonight? Who
(01:50):
do you think it is? Because I believe it's a
Denver Broncos and he spent he spent a third of
his career in Denver as opposed to Indianapolis. And I
just don't know that whether or not he's on great
terms with the front office and Jim Jimmy Ursay up
there in Indianapolis. But I think Peyton Manning is rooting
for the Denver Broncos tonight. That's what I believe now
whether night he's betting on it, I have no idea.
(02:11):
I'm not gonna make reckless. But you can't assume that
because the fan see. To me, I've always felt like
the fan base outweighs everything else. Even if even if
I like I didn't like the owner in Washington, and
I don't support owner little little Laura Laura danny Um,
(02:31):
but I support the team and I support the city.
Like I said, I support the community. They can't, you know,
Daniel Snyder can never take that away from from what
took place. So I would never root against Washington to win.
I would never wish them to lose because I'm a
fan of the players. I'm a flat fan of the community.
(02:54):
I just I'm just not a fan of the owner.
So I don't think that he would be rooting against
Indianapolis because of any type of bad blood between him
and or or say or you know, or the team.
You don't think. It's kind of a little strange though,
that he's more closely associated with the Denver Broncos and
he is in the Indianapolis Colts. Maybe there's not some
(03:16):
bad blood there that you know. You guys thought I
was finished. You wanted to move in another direction. You
had the Curtis Painter year, just see could draft Andrew
Luck You were ready to shuffle me off. And I
go to Denver, I go to a couple of Super Bowls,
set a bunch of passing records. I just wonder if
that really bothered and Ate at Peyton Manning the way
that whole his whole time there ended, and he looks
(03:36):
at it with a little bit of I don't want
to say bad blood, but I just wonder if he
looks at it and just kind of gives him the
side ie over the way his time ended there. That's
what I've always been agree with you. I agree with
you on that, but I don't think he has overall
heart feelings towards the fan base and the team. Though.
Well I think we got I think I mean cut.
Would you say you're you're able to separate the motions
(03:59):
of you feel towards what a front office would do
versus what like the team, like the teammates, the people
that work in the building, you know, different things like that.
You definitely could differentiate. I mean, like the lunch lady
and all the people that your left. And that's the
that's the true man. I would like, I'll put it
(04:21):
this way. I got, well, like the people work in
the cafeteria, you know there's cafeterias there, or the people
that clean up in the locker, the people that set
the lawn on on the field, I call them culinary specialists.
I don't call them lunch again, like I care about
terminology slop shop talking. It's it's an Adam say no.
(04:51):
I mean, like I remember, like Cleveland traded my ass
away and that was a decision that obviously by that
point it was year three, so we'd probably in through
like three different general managers and on our second head coach,
and just you know, that's how that place works. But
I think I don't hold any like it will or
grudge towards the people there. I think it was just
it was frustrating that I didn't at least get like
(05:13):
an opportunity to finish out my contract. Like that's that's
what bothered me the most about it. Like, I mean,
even though I didn't get along with Eric Mangini's, it
wasn't one of those things that I sat there and
I was like, you can't wait to get somewhere else.
I was like man I signed a contract, like I
want to finish this. It was no different when I
when I went to school Notre Dame, like I had
committed for four years. I wanted to finish that, like
(05:36):
It's part of the reason why I came back, Like
I wanted to try to see it through and accomplish
all the goals that I had in that four year
time span. I could have left after a three and
one pro I chose to come back because I felt
like there was still some unfinished business that I had,
and so that that was like one of the things
that I think bothered me most about it. It It wasn't
the people, because at that point in time, Mike Homegroun
(05:58):
came in and I honestly, I can't even think of
who the general manager's name was. I talked to him
once on the phone, and I don't know that he
lasted long there, Like I know, George Kkitis is in
there for a hot minute and then he got canned
after eight weeks or whatever it was, and I can't
think of the guy's name he came in after him.
So homeg came in, and he wasn't the he was
(06:18):
like overseeing all of it. And we had added. Honestly,
we had one of the best conversations I've had with
anyone like and I eventually made my way to Seattle,
where our our past crossed again, and he looked at me.
It was like that place, man, it's just like just
I was just like, I could tell you so many stories.
I looked at my going I could tell you a
(06:38):
lot of stories. I was like. He said some to
me about, well, you know, not really know what I
signed up for. I go, well, I could have told you.
I was like, I was like, you were you were,
you know, trading me off and I was on my
way out. I could have told you my three years
of stories there and he just we just kind of
laughed about it, but he was it was one of
the better conversations I've had. Was someone who had had
(06:59):
six says, you know. He talked about his time with
Brett Farve, and he told me, he's like, look, you know,
through three years, it's like you've gotten injured, You've had this,
this and that. I've seen flashes of things. He goes,
but he goes, I feel like you and the head
coach don't get long ago. Yeah, I don't. We don't
and he was like, well, He's like it's it's gonna
be hard to evaluate and how to work the situation
moving forward, but like we'll be in touch and I'll
(07:22):
let you know. And and all he said was he
got to a point with Brett Farve where when they
were in Green Bay, things weren't going well and they
took a vote, and I guess the entire staff was like, yeah,
we we want Mark Brunell. Let's put in Brunell. And
he was the only one that was like, no, I
want to farm. I'm gonna stick with this, And I
guess he pulled Farve aside and said, look, one day,
(07:44):
either you're not gonna be Holy step In Lombardi Trophy,
We're gonna be sitting next to the trash cans outside
after they can us. And and the reality is they
ended up, you know, going on to win a Super
Bowl together. So I was just like, well, I was
a great story. I don't really know how to ap
plastic at all. Yeah, but I say that doesn't always
work out that. I was like, dude, that I don't
(08:05):
You're not my coach, and I don't think you're gonna
hang on with me much longer. You know, you know,
I want to say it again. I'm just sort of
racking my brain for like GM history in Cleveland, and
and I just like I keep coming back to the
name Tom Heckert, Like for some reason, I keep coming
back to Tom Hackers. What the Eagles before that? Maybe,
I mean, yeah, because I know that he was sandwiched
in between George Cookeynes and then Michael Lombardi. I mean,
(08:26):
this is off top of my head. I'm just sort
of just thinking going back in time, like thinking about
the funny thing was though I'm pretty sure homegrun was
over top of him, and so he had whatever general
manager power he had, but it wasn't quite the same.
And obviously, like even as a general manager, sometimes the
head coaches more power. Like clearly, you know, Eric Mangini
fired George Cokenes, who was like his college best friend
(08:49):
after half the season, and and you know he had
a four power than the GM at that point. Yet
trust me, what a good dude. Trust me that that
I gave you a window and know that thing was fun.
That's great, all right, So let me ask you this,
if you had it's just like every time I hear
you guys, tell these stories about how cut throat the
(09:09):
NFL is. I go, this is ridiculous. I'd be like,
vore you bringing Jonas Jonas is your general manager. After
a weeks you're like, hey, Jonas, gonna work, bro. I
love you. You're fun, like we had a good time,
like my guy. Yeah, I mean, you know, you can
still come to the game, but you can throw the
hooks up. You just can't be you just can't be
(09:32):
a lot here, all right. So let me guys ask
you as this, who needs this one more tonight? Indianapolis
or Denver based on the start? That's a great question,
because I think it's Indianapolis, I do. I think it's Denver. Okay,
South stinks. I know. I believe the collective record of
(09:52):
every team in the ANFC South is sub five hundred
if you had them all up together. And that's the
only division like that I think in the A if
I'm not mistaken. Uh yeah, so they've got Houston is
oh three and one. Yeah, there's a couple of ties there. Yeah,
not a great division through and through. But I just
look at it and I go, is Jim Murcay really
gonna sit here and put up with this season? After
(10:15):
what went down last year, his meetings he had with
the front office, his meetings he had with with Frank Reich.
They're going out and getting Matt Ryan blaming everything on
Carson Wentz. I just wonder if this thing continues to
go down the road that it's going where they don't
look good. Jonathan Taylor's banged up now he was supposed
to be your workhorse running back. It wouldn't surprise me
if Jim Murcy ended up doing something drastic in season
(10:38):
trying to save the year, and whether that means Frank
Reich is going to be the fall guy. I just
don't know that Jim murcay is going to sit around
and wait until the end of the year after a
clown out when they when they gag away that game
in Jacksonville like they did last year. I don't think
he's gonna wait around that long. I think I think
Cats are gonna roll. You cannot get over the cloud out.
It's just it's funny. Listen, how are we gonna make
(10:59):
a statement? Is a bad football team dress up as clowns? Wow,
you showed them well, you did it, guys. Congratulations, Now
grab a snorkel and go swim in the pool up
to up top at jack Stadium and have fun everybody.
So I just I look at it, I go I think,
I think this is bigger for Indianapolis because if it
plays out and it gets ugly, the conversation is going
(11:22):
to get louder and louder for changes there. And it
can't be the quarterback because you already made those changes
multiple times. But I don't know that they brought in
a quarterback that you could definitively say outside of Wentz,
I would say the Wins situation is peculiar. But again,
I think we know who Carson Wentz is now, the
(11:43):
commandos who he is? Yeah, I mean one, uh, But
but you bring in Ryan and I don't I don't
believe that you can say, all right, well we brought
in Matt Ryan, so now we've brought in every really
good quarter act that we could bring in and the
open market to see if this will work. That's not
there's something more there than the quarterback. But you still
(12:07):
can say you haven't brought in you haven't had a
quarterback since Andrew Luck. You could really say that so
to me, and you had success. You saw success with
Philip Rivers. So what happened so dramatically and drastically from
when Philip Rivers left into retirement to now, I don't know,
But I really think I'm with q Um that this
(12:30):
is a bigger game for for Denver, Like they can't
fall behind, they cannot fall behind, and and and with
what you have going on there, with the high, high
profile offseason that they've had, UM, they actually with a
win here, they don't put themselves out of the conversation
(12:51):
of are they are they turned in the corner yet?
Are they a good team yet? I don't think they do.
That would a win, But I think they put themselves
closer to the conversation of stabilizing UM as a team
versus going the other way. And I think that that's
more difficult, that's a more difficult proposition. Even if the
Colts were to win tonight, Well, let me put it
(13:12):
this way, UM, given the fact that Denver just lost
to Las Vegas, Las Vegas is a one in three
football team. They win this week, Denver loses this week,
technically the records would be tied. But right now, early on,
Las Vegas would have the head to head over them,
And and and you couldn't say that if you're Indianapolis
and Houston, because if Indianapolis loses, they would still be
(13:35):
tied with Houston yet and you know that's assuming by
the way, Houston would win. Like the best case scenario
is like Indianapolis would be tied for last place and
then they had to tie against Houston. So I'm not
even sure how the tie breaker would work from there,
But there's still a game head They're still sitting in
third place. Like I just and I don't know the
Houston beats jacksonvilleer, I think a seven point underdogs something
(13:57):
like that. So I just think even if you look
the standings and how a winner loss would affect it.
To LaVar's point, Denver is the one that needs it
more like they're the one that I think if you
think of the think of the perception right now, Denver,
I mean right now, like the thing your hack it
has to hire Jerry Rossberg in season because so many
people were like just criticizing him for his bad you know,
(14:20):
clock management or overall game management, and so they make
that move. I mean, it really seems like there's a
lot of people who have a microscope on him and
this team and I don't I don't know that we're
talking that much about the Colts because what kind of
shrugs us, you know, shrugs their shoulders and goes, well,
I mean, they don't have their best player in Jonathan Taylor,
(14:41):
he's out for tonight. I don't know that anyone expects
them really to to go in and win, outside of
any the guys in that locker room. And I just,
you know, I kind of look and think, like for
the perception if they lose and there's still they're a
one in three and one football team, people kind of
look at the vision, go yeah, but it's the FC South.
You know, they'll they'll they'll figure it out eventually the
devil loses. Like, man that maybe this Nathaniel Hackett higher
(15:03):
isn't it working out? You know, I'm a little bit
offended here because you know, obviously I have access to
a lot of this information, and I've got like secret
codes and things I can put into get answers or
information immediately, and so like you're just thrown out there like, oh, well,
I believe the line for Houston and Jacksonville is at seven,
Like why don't you just ask? Man? Don't give me
a second area. Oh yeah, I just love how quick
(15:26):
his fingers work. Man. I'll tell you what you are
one keyboard warrior, boy, I tell you Jacksonville mine of
seven yet. So I just wanted to confirm that for
you there. So I was able to I was able
to look that up pretty quickly here and get it
done for you. So again, pulling strings, that's what these
fingers do. They pull strings here on Fox Sports Radio,
you know, throught some general petting advice for all these
(15:48):
divisional matches we have. Don't don't follow my lead. No,
My My thought is so like that's it's a seven
point spred you really could go either way. They're uh
sitting at seven because there's a chance obviously that number
you push it. My advice is, like take the dogs.
The dogs have been have been obviously winning at a
higher clip of the bets this year against the spread,
(16:08):
but not even that, just in divisional games early in
the season. You're still trying to get a feel for
like how much parody there is So far, it seems
like there's a lot of parody amongst the league. Now,
you know, I think someone are arguing the other side
might say, well, this is where teams started to differentiate
themselves and look, maybe you're right, but there's a couple
out there, like Tampa's at eight and a half point. Uh,
(16:29):
you know, I think they're laying eight and a half
our judge they want, Yeah, it's night and a half, Okay.
I mean that's a big spread versus Atlanta, And I know,
you know, Patterson probably will be out for this one.
But I mean that's another one. You kind of go
all right, like, we'll see how these how everything kind
of scores up with some of these divisional battles. But
I've been on the side of the dogs with the
bigger spreads. I love sports betting. I imagine not betting
(16:52):
on sports. What a loser like. I just imagine like
going through life going no, I don't want to bet
on that game. That's not any fun. I don't want
to gamble on sports. Get a grip. Are you are
missing out? There's a party going on and you're not invited.
You're not allowed behind the velvet ropes, like we just
broke down here on this show, so that works. Be

is joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. He is
a senior NFL reporter at the MMQB. You can get
him on Twitter at Albert Brier and UH. Based on
(17:57):
some of the reporting and his own reporting on is
a hooligan now we're talking about the Big Green Egg.
Albert Brier, upon seeing Dennis Eckersley call his final game
as a Red Sox broadcaster, admitted on Twitter last night
that he egged Dennis eckerss Lee's house on Halloween years ago. Albert,
(18:20):
what the hell is going on here? Well? So, first
of all, I am. I. I've heard great things about
the Big Green egg. I got a couple of buddies
who have them, so I don't want to associate them
with this sort of this sort of this sort of hooliganism.
You know. Yeah, when I was so when I was
a kid, Dennis Eckersley was kind of the famous guy
(18:42):
in our town. And um, he had he was pitching
for the A's at the time, but for it had
settled in Boston, and so, um, I grew up in
the summurb Sudbury, Massachusetts. He lived on Morris Road, and
he lived a couple of houses down from one of
my good friends in elementary school and his house so
you know, you always sort of knew on Halloween. And
(19:06):
I'm sure it's still a big deal for the kids now,
but you always sort of knew which houses to go
to and which houses out to go to a Halloween.
And if you went to his house, there's no candy,
The lights were out, but he left like a basket
of signed baseball cards on the doorstep, so like no
(19:27):
one was home, or or somebody was home and they
just didn't want to answer the door. And you went
up there and there were baseball cards. They were signed
baseball cars, so you can grab one. So of course,
you know, when you're eight, nine, ten years old, that's
like an invitation to vandalize that house. And again, I
(19:49):
don't know. Again, I don't know. Halloween is what it
was back then. But when I was a kid, that's
what Halloween was. So my kids aren't yet at the
age where I'm gonna I'm sure pretty soon with my
oldest he's seven now, but but yeah, I mean, you
guys know, like you guys in the same age group
as me, Like, that's what Halloween was when we were kids.
(20:09):
And if somebody's not going to be home on Halloween
and do something like that, well then that's an invitation
for kids have some fun with your house. He's a
Hall of Famer. Those cards are probably were something that's unfair,
that unfair enough. So let me get this straight. You
vandalized it because of him not leaving out candy instead
(20:30):
of leaving out baseball cards, or you because he was
no no no no no no no no. You vandalized
his house because it was clear he wasn't there, like
you knew, like if you knew someone wasn't home or
you you're saying it doesn't matter his status generally because
(20:50):
he wasn't home you vandalized, you know. I mean it's
like if you know, like year old guy isn't gonna
come running out of the house, yes, backing on the
side of the house, like, then that's an invitation for
you to do it, right, that's normless. That's how Ohio
State cats do. It's I don't know what this hat.
(21:12):
I don't know why you got to bring my own
moderate of those people when he was a kid than
I was, well, and we didn't just go around vandalizing
for no reason. We had a purpose when we vandalized,
there was a purpose. I mean, there was a purpose
behind it. You know. Usually you're like, all right, this
person deserves it, or it was just purely for the
(21:34):
enjoyment of trying to make sure we got in the news.
You know, maybe that I mean, yeah, pushed over. This
was definitely more of a like a for love of
the game situation with us. Yeah, it wasn't like I
don't think there was anything really personal touch of it.
I think more more other than that it was for
the love of the game. Well, I mean, I think
(21:54):
it's pretty clear why a lot of people hate a
House State fans. Come on, I'm just saying. I mean,
Albert's presenting the Ohio State fan base right now. That
is true. Yeah again again, you were around more of
them than I than I was at that age, so
you probably know better than me. Kind of sling me
in this, Albert. Let's talk a little Thursday football. You know,
(22:15):
we pose this question earlier today, kind of who does
this when? Matter more? To? My question is, and I
don't know if we really dug into it, if the
Colts loose tonight, like where is this organization at I
mean outside of jimmers, say, pumping out music videos and
leaning up against trees. You know, I think they're having
(22:35):
a hard time finding their identity. Yeah, i'd agree. I mean,
and if you look at it. The interesting thing about
a frady is that, um, you know, I would say
like because of the division there, and it may put
the Broncos in more peril when it comes to the
playoff race. The Cults being in the ANFC South may
save them, you know, and that they can go through
(22:57):
some bombs and it doesn't look like there's a team
in that vision that's gonna run away with it. Right now.
You know that said, I'm with you, Like it's just like,
for all the building that Chris, Chris Ballard and Frank
Reich have done over the last five years, it sort
of feels like, have you hit a ceiling, you know,
and they've had a left tackle issue, or they're good
(23:19):
enough at receiver, they're good enough at corner. So I
think there are a lot of fair questions to ask.
And and this year, you know, they've they've gone through
more turnover than they had in recent years too, and
that like, now that're in their second year with that
nixt Sirianni as their offensive coordinator, Marcus Brady's in the
second year, and they're in their first year without Matt
(23:39):
Ever plus as their defensive coordinator, and they got Gus
Bradley in there. Plus they're on their fifth starting quarterback
in five years. So you know, I I think it's
I think it's very fair to start to ask some
of those questions. And you look at some of the
guys that are like one of the foundation pieces right
for for Chris Ballard, and guys like Shack Leonard and
(24:01):
and and and Quentin Nelson, those guys like those guys
aren't that young anymore. Like those guys are right in
the middle of the prime of their careers now. So
if you want to take advantage of you know, how
well you drafted early on, now sort of the time
to do it. So I would absolutely agree they're they're
not very They're they're hitting a very interesting juncture in
their build. And I I think because we saw last
(24:25):
year the trigger finger with with Jim Hersey and how
I said he was over the laws in Jacksonville, how
that impacted their decision on Carson winds them to go
to Matt Ryan. You know, a night like tonight under
the under the lights and you know, uh, national television
spotlight's going to be an interesting spot for them. When
does that turn into the spotlight or the the focus
(24:48):
of the owner go to the coach Like, are we
are we nearing that or is it still going to
be considered the players? Well, I don't think you can.
I'm not sure at this point, LaVar, that you can
separate one from the other, you know, I I think
at this point really is like you know, because they
(25:11):
struck out on Carson Wentz because they've failed to like
fully invest in the quarterback and they've kind of gone
piece mail and and and sort of kept banditating the situation. Um,
after dealing with what was I mean, you can't blame
them for the Andrew Luckart syronment, you know. Like so
it's a really unusual circumstance. But we're talking about going on,
you know, four years now, Um, next year I'll be
(25:34):
their fourth year or no, this is the fourth year
without Andrew Luck, you know, having to kind of keep
turning things over and turning things over and turning things
over and not. Oh no, I think you guys are
I think you guys are watching I think you guys
are watching my Tahoe, My two thousand eighteen tah slowly die. Um,
(25:56):
we're good, We're good. But I think that I think
it's I think it's I think it's hard to separate
players from coach at this point because you've already sort
of done that. And you know, now I would say
Chris Ballard and Frank Reich really are responsible for every
player that's in that building. So, you know what, I
think you're way past the point now where you can
point say it's the players, not the coach. Albert Brier
(26:19):
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Get him on
Twitter at Albert Brier, senior NFL reporter at the MMQB.
So you've obviously covered the Patriots for a long time.
I don't and listen to the Tahoe Ghost is back.
It is Halloween season and so we are navigating through
these treacherous waters with Albert live on the air. But
when it comes to Belichick and where he stands sort
(26:40):
of with the quarterback position and where the organization is at,
is there is there some doubt in New England that
maybe Mac Jones just isn't the guy. And I know
he's injured right now, but is there some questions about
where they're headed based on what this team looks like
right now from roster to coaching staff to the coordinators, etcetera.
(27:03):
I think it's very fair to say there are some
questions about their team building over the last couple of
years and how much of the twenty years previous that
had to do with Brady and how much of it
was Belichick. And so I do think that some degree
Belichick is on notice. And you know, I I think
when it comes to Mac, really a lot of that
(27:24):
is it's not like Kenny play because anything they think
he can play right, like, and he can be a
good NFL quarterback and so for the next couple of years,
I think they're fine because he's on a rookie contract.
I think where the rubber meets the road for for
for Bill is when decision time comes on paying and
it's worth giving a second contract too. And so I think, like,
(27:49):
if we're talking about making a major decision on Bill
Belichick's future, I think we're still a little ways off
from the flashpoint. I think it would be after Mac
Jones's third year when you got to make a decision
on its fifty their option and he's eligible for an
extension for the first time, you know. And so they
haven't drafted very well over the last three or four years.
That's no secret. Um they've and look like this is
(28:11):
a bar obviously, but you know, they haven't won a
playoff game. And I believe four years super Bowl fifty
two or fifty fifty three. Um. So, like, I think
the direction of the franchise is more of the question
than anything else. And I don't think you know, you're
(28:32):
gonna see the owner assessing whether or not Bills back
after this year. But I do think if you don't
see major progress in the roster, then that decision point
comes and messes. It matches right up with when you
have to make a decision on Mac Jones contract after
to see after three season. Albert looking at this, uh
(28:54):
this NFL season, it seems like there's times when we
get some coaches who are clipped early. I would have
imagine Matt Rules seats the hottest Maybe I'm wrong with
that assumption. Is he kind of the first one you
look to and say, if they don't start winning some games,
it could be night night soon. Yeah. I certainly think
he's like the one that's probably uh got the hottest
(29:16):
sea right now. Yeah, And and he's an interesting one, Brady,
just because I think for right now they're okay. Like,
I don't think he's lost the locker room. Um. I Like,
I think they've got talent on that roster. And so
I think the owner the order they could they could
tread water for the next month and a half and
kind of wait and see on rule because I do
(29:40):
think like, I don't think the owner wants to be
wrong on this, and the investment they made in him
and doing a seven year, sixty three million dollar deal
with them is pretty big. Um, So like my my
my feeling is like for the next month and a half,
it should be okay, unless there's some sort of blow
up in the locker room or whatever. I think you
could you can manage that without there being any sort
(30:02):
of long term effect onto the team. What I think
the issue comes up, well, where I think this becomes
a little bit of an issue is when the college
hiring cycle starts. And you know, I think you guys
know as well as I do. That was end of November,
beginning of December last year, when USC hired Lincoln Riley,
When um, you know, when l s U hired Bryan Kelly,
(30:23):
When Notre Dame hired Marcus Freeman, when Oklahoma hired Brent
brn Venables. I believe that was all last week in November,
first week of December last year. And so you know,
when you get to that point, I think you're gonna
start to see these college programs wanting to talk to
that rule and wanting to kick the tires on that rule.
(30:43):
And that's when I think the temperature sort of gets
turned up on this. If things don't get better, if
they win, obviously, then you know a lot of this
goes away. If they don't, I think it's manageable for
the next month and a half. And then again, once
you get to the college hiring cycle of starting to
get fired up a little bit um, it might get
a little bit awkward. It might come to a point
(31:04):
where where David Stepper has got to make a decision.
Albert Brier, you can get him on Twitter at Albert Brier,
Senior en reporter at the m m q U be
before we let you go, Albert, I just had a
question for you, because obviously we do have a fan
based people listening right now on our affiliate nine twenty
AM nine twenty Fox Sports Radio in Columbus. So I'm
just curious and I'm just gonna throw a random number
(31:25):
out here. Do you believe that Ohio State will probably
beat Michigan State by more than twenty seven points this Saturday? Seven?
Random number you pulled out of your hat. Again, I'm
just throwing stuff out there. I mean, that was the
first number that popped into my mind. More than twenty seven.
What do we feel more than twenty seven? I mean,
based on what happened last year, I'll say yes. And
they're gonna buy after this too. So I'll say yes,
(31:47):
but I would turn it over to the college football expert. Frady,
what do you think? Oh, I'm laying the points. Yeah, yeah,
that's That's one where I'm not sure if you guys
know this, but Michigan State was the worst past defense
at all f S of a hundred. That was last year. Guys,
this year they are improved. Of the hundred thirty teams
and FBS, they're currently raked hundred. That doesn't make any
(32:10):
sense to me because melt Tucker was like a dB
melt Tucker's like a DPS coach, right, I know, trust
I wasn't in Cleveland. I mean, it's been like the
offense has been the thing that has kind of kept
them afloat. But yeah, they have not been able to
cover down on anyone. And the worst part is is
now they don't have the rushing attack that says potent
as it was with Walkers. So look, it's in it's
in East Lansing, so maybe you get a little home
(32:31):
field advantage some bad weather, but this is I think
it's a better passing attack for a high state than
what they faced last year. And they beat the brakes
off them last year, right, last year. Last year looked
like a seven on seven dril, So yeah, I'll way
the points in that one. And by the way, guys,
I don't know what it is, but that beeping had
(32:52):
not come back the whole week. And then I swear
to God like I don't know if you guys are
haunting my car or whatever, but I saw it. I
was like, oh crap, and now I'm pulled over. I
think it was dirty. And the Albert, I think it
was dirty. Mike and the boys could take your car
visit vandalizing. Alright, Uh he is again. Get him on
(33:17):

(33:40):
And you may know me for the world of football
or fighting or even shows like HBO's Ballers. Well you
don't know is for my entire life. I have lived
in something I refer to as the Great Depression anxiety.
So now I'm coming out with a new podcast, Unbreakable,
a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer. We're each week,
well we talk about mental health. I hope to describe it,
(34:02):
give it words. Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on
the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you
get your podcasts. It's a Thursday night football extravagance at
Coming up later on tonight, We've got Week five of
the NFL kicking off. We've got the Indianapolis Colts on
the road at the Denver Broncos. For those of you
(34:23):
people out there that like to get down in the
gambling world, if you like to place a little wager two,
as we talked about earlier, we do a We are
looking at a Denver Bronco team that is a three
and a half point favorite hosting those Indianapolis Colts on
a short week. Injuries or story here. Javonte Williams the
running back for the Denver Broncos. He's out for the year.
(34:44):
By the way, that knee injury apparently he did two ligaments.
Was it the a CL the l C L. Yeah,
so so that, I mean, how much worse does that
make it than your general A c L we're looking
at there. I saw somebody initially said it's going to
be a long road back, like much much longer than
just the buckal a c L injury. Yeah, I mean,
I'm not a doctor, but I think additional ligaments that
(35:05):
that probably complicates that. Yeah, come on, everyone's pretending to
be a doctor nowadays. Yeah, especially sports fans. Yeah, it
is true. Jonathan Taylor is going to miss his first
game in his career. Uh never missed her Well, he
missed due to injury. He missed. I think he missed
a game because of COVID, if I'm not mistaken. I
(35:25):
think he tested positive for COVID last year the year before,
so he missed a game there. But it's gonna be
his first game with the ankle injury that he's missed.
So you could see a backfield that would include Naim
Hines also there. Um, and then you've got Russell Wilson
dealing with the shoulder injury injury as well too. So listen,
everybody's a little bit banged up here on a Thursday night,
(35:47):
but we get to see out all plays out later
on in Denver. So so there's that, there's that fun stuff.
You think that Daniel Hackett's nervous knowing everybody's gonna be
watching and he hasn't had the best luck in the
world when everybody watches his games. You think he's starting
to sweat it out a little bit there in Denver, Brady,
what are you thinking, Oh, I mean, short week, it's
tough to recover. Then you gotta go play, you know,
mile high altitude. This is one of those games. I
(36:10):
think it could be close. First half, Denver pools away
second half. That the altitude and all that gets to him.
I mean, you just it's hard to recover as it
isn't a short week. Then you add that to it.
I mean it's it's one of those where you get
out there and warm ups and you started getting going
and you start kind of huffing puffing a little quick
when you think you're like, goddamn, I had of shape,
and you're like, oh, no, I forgot I'm playing a
mile high It's it's a real thing, man, that that
(36:32):
plays its has its impact. I had a great game there,
one of my best, one of my best games ever. No, no,
I must have did well in high altitude. It was,
it was, it was good. I enjoyed it. And Kent
Graham was our quarterback. Kent Graham. That's not a high
a stake out right. I could not tell you at
(36:55):
this point do not recall. And that was the reason
why I repeated his name. But I know he played
for the Steelers before he came to us, and that
was kind of cool. I mean, I'm showing Notre Dame
in Ohio State, Ken Graham, that I'm showing here he played,
I believe though at Ohio State. I don't think he's
got a lot of a lot of connections here that
(37:15):
Ken't Graham by the way, Illinois guy, ken't Graham if
I'm not Winfield, Illinois the top of my head. But
we went into Denver and one on. So that was
a member of the Washington football team. That one of
the few things I can recall. You know, I have
selective memory laws to that. Okay, yeah, but anyway, let's
(37:37):
can I just ask you, what do you think your
stats were for that game? If he had to guess,
it's two thousand one, right, I think it was two thousand.
So so like if you had to like take a
stab at this. What do you think your your stats
were for this guy? They're probably pretty good average, you know.
I probably had like, I don't know, I don't know,
(38:01):
five tackles, maybe forced fumble. Um, you know, I don't know.
I'm looking at six total tackles, one tackle for loss,
two pass deflections, and a fumble recovery. Yeah, talking about
there was in there too. Yeah. I've been listen Pro
(38:24):
Football Reference. So they're saying there was no forced fumble.
They could be wrong. They've been wrong before. They got
it wrong. They said, uh, I think Pro Football Reference
said that Bucky Brooks was like a two time Super
Bowl champion or something like that, and it was like
he was a member of the Packers early in the
season but was not later on. So he actually wasn't
(38:46):
a member of the Super Bowl champion, uh, Green Bay
Packers back in the mid nineties. So they've they've been
known to make a couple of airs here and there
when it comes to this. Yeah, it's not a big deal.
I know I made it about me, and I apology.
I was just it just took me back to a
fond memory. I don't have many of them in the league,
so you know that altitude does not affect you. Apparently
(39:12):
does everyone else. I think I felt pretty good. It
was a rainy day, you know, it was good. It's
a raid much there. You know what? It was not
a forced fumble. It was a pass breakup. It was
a past breakup recovery. You got credit for a fumer
recovery in that game. Yeah, it was a past breakup
now that I'm really thinking about it, it was. It
was a full back into the flat. Yeah, I remember
(39:37):
that hit. It was very nice hit. Flush. I want
to say it was Griffin. Was the Griffith Griffin Griffith? Yeah, yeah,
I think so. He's a fullback and I think it
was the fullback that year. Yeah, there is spank. You
want you want to hear about somebody getting spanked. This
(39:57):
is a disgrace, all right, this is disgrace. Alright. So
remember that protester who ran on the field during Monday
night football? Yeah, he got cracked, right, And so here's
the Yeah, here's the latest on this. Apparently he's now
filing a lawsuit against potentially Bobby Wagner in the NFL
(40:20):
and and maybe the Rams because of getting hit. So
Peyton Manning, whose former teams are going to be participating
in Thursday Night football coming up later on. He had
his Manning cast on Monday, which I don't watch because
I actually want to watch the game, but he actually
had did a little play by play on this guy
getting smoked on Monday night football. Here, here's not sounded there?
(40:41):
Yes there is, yes, Yes, that's what we're talking about. Veteran, right,
get him down, now, get out? Okay, what is this
guy's gripe? He ran on the field. He tried to
be a protester. If somebody runs on the field, you
have full clearance to light them up. Correct, you get
(41:02):
the business? No? No, no, no, you enter the arena,
you you get the real effect. I mean, I'll put
it this way. I think Bobby Wagener is gonna have
a defense because what was that guy holding a smoke bomb?
You don't know what he's gonna do with that. I mean,
once he enters that arena, you have to be able
to have the ability to protect yourself. That's like a
stand your ground law. So you want to enter the
(41:24):
arena like you get the business. By the way, why
why don't these arenas and these these owners who are
making millions upon millions of dollars. Figure it out with security,
my god, like the players have to do your job
for you. I mean, it's almost like a good samaritan
who sees a shoplifter and no security in the store
(41:46):
wants to do anything, so you gotta go tackle the
guy to make sure it doesn't get away. Like I mean,
I actually absolutely hate the fact that someone has the
audacity now sue after they trust passed in the first
place and ended their upset that they got knocked down,
Like what a clown. And by the way, remember Monica
sell this years ago in the tennis match that fan
(42:07):
you get fan ran out of the court and stabbed her,
Like you have no like to bring his point. You
have no idea what these guys have on him or
what these people are doing, like whether they're gluing themselves
to a floor to try and make a statement. And
the idea is gonna come back and well, I'm gonna
I'm gonna file a lawsuit against Bobby Wagner. He got smoked.
He should have gotten smoked. Remember James Harrison tackled some
(42:28):
guy and and took him down, hip tossed the dude
at Ohio State. Here's their strength coach. That was awesome.
Wait what look up Anthony former linebacker when he was
their strength coach. The guy was running on the field
and he literally took him. He just hip tossed him
through him on the ground. Here's the thing. These players
(42:51):
put too much time and energy and effort into it
to allow some clown to come out there and try
to take away the attention or whatever else. Like you
out of here. You want to protest, go do it
somewhere else, don't do it there trying to look up
this Anthony Schlego. Oh, you'll find it. I mean he
got to have him, yeah, yeah, And he just lit
(43:12):
him up, I mean slammed him in the crowd. It's
pretty good. You ever come close to lightening somebody up
and right on the field, and you've talked about what
your strategy would be, do you ever do you ever
ever see a streaker or somebody run on the field
and just think, God, if I can get a clean
streakers Every home game at my high school, it's like
a tradition. They streak out a certain days, like a
(43:33):
true streaker where there's like there's nothing on. They're just naked,
they're not all the way. That's not really a streaker.
Then that's just a jackass. Like that's what I'd say, Like,
if you're gonna do it, you do it. You're you're
Will Farrow in old school. It's not booty, but but
it's it's definitely speedos. I mean, it's as close to
(43:56):
full fully streaking as as it gets to being fully
birthday suit. You know, apparelled apparelled out. So every every
home game, who like, who's are these students? Are? These
are students? And I guess I don't. I haven't really
tried to figure out who they are because I'm in
you know, I'm in the game. But it's like a
(44:18):
certain and it's funny because they'll they'll do it at
different different times. You can't get a tab on them,
so you're not going to stop them because we do
we have police that are on the on the on
the grounds. But when they do it, I mean you
can if you're just if you're quick enough to hop
a fence, run across the field, hop the next fence.
(44:38):
It's like a straight through run. They literally run straight
through and are out of there. That they're not coming back.
They're not they're not there to wash the entire game.
They they're there to do their streak. Steven, The problem,
you probably have the same security guards every game, and
they've they've basically never been able to stop this. And
so what's gonna end up happening is there waiting for
(45:00):
the moment that they actually spot the person coming out
of the crowd, and this like sixteen year old kid
who wants to be a superstar during a high school
football game because they don't have the balls to play themselves,
is going to run out of that crowd, go to
run on the field and get flatlined by one of
these security guards. Gonna get met up, You don't think so.
These guys have been wearing it. They've been embarrassed trying
(45:21):
to do their job to protect you guys, and these
a holes are running on the field, you know, down
down in their box or briefs to try and make
some sort of a statement because they want to show
off in front of their friends. These they're they've been
embarrassed trying to put a stop to this. I just look,
you enter the arena, you get the business. You want
to see what it's really like. That's what you get.
You're gonna get schleg Old. Yeah, that's what I was doing.
(45:43):
That like fantasy camp thing the one time and all
funny games till someone tears their A c L and
you go, hey man, they say the fantasy anymore and
now you're in reality, like that's what happens. Like dudes
pop their achilles that tear the A c L like that,
This is real, This stuff happens. So, yeah, you paid
five thousand bucks from this fantasy kid. Here it is,
(46:04):
and he was the fantasy you're looking for. You locked
away with an autograph. Don joy have fun. I wonder
I wonder if the chance for this guy to win
this lawsuit though, I mean, when you think about it,
there is the possibility he could he could possibly have
have a case. I mean on what grounds, I don't know.
I don't know. I think it states on most tickets
(46:26):
to like it states pretty specifically you're trespassing, uh if
if you happen to enter the arena. So I just
I don't know that he's going to have much of
a case. And I don't know that anyone's gonna, you know,
sit there and say it wasn't self defense from Bobby Wagen.
