Speaker 1 (00:02):
Is the best of two pros and a couple Joe
with Lamar Airings rating win and Jonas Knots on radio.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
A weird, potentially devastating night in the NBA Playoffs last night,
courtesy of the Association. So, I don't know how we
want to get this started. Do we just to attack
the big story? Was it Minnesota getting it done again?
Or was it the Knick's getting it done and the
Jason Tatum injury that followed?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, I mean that that seems to be the thing
that stood out. Yeah, what's on all of them?
Speaker 4 (00:44):
I hate to start off on that note, but man,
I was that's always tough to watch.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, that was brutal.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
And so now we wait to see what the MRI
look like. But it if he's calling his own time
out and he's riding around in pain like that, people
are like, oh, now he's got a sprained ankle, and
I'm like, uh, oh, we've seen it so many times
nowadays that you just knew, oh that's the Achilles, right,
And so now it's try and figure out if the
(01:13):
you know, if the MRI comes back and it does
confirm you know, ruptured achilles. I know, our buddy doctor
David Chow was, you know, looking at that saying yeah
that it appears like that's what we're going to get
here and a LeVar you went through that same injury
from a basketball player standpoint, I mean, this knocks him
out for obviously the playoffs and then I would think
(01:33):
majority of next year.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
As well too.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
I don't know where the technology is these days, but
it definitely not an easy injury to come back from.
I mean, it's just it's just not and I don't know.
I wish them the best, you know, but these things happen.
It's a part of sport, and you know, he's got
to get through it. Got to get through it. But
I think the bigger I think the bigger conversation is
(01:58):
is what team is he coming back to?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Right?
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Like it's going to most likely be a very different
team if that is indeed what what the injury is.
And he's out and not playing, so it would be
interesting to see. But I don't know, man, I think
I caught my shot, Like I hate to do that
right fresh out of his his injury, but I think
(02:24):
I caught my shot that said after that, demor I
think I said after that demoralizing loss that they had
the first time that the series was over.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yeah, you know, LeVar has never been one to shy
away from dancing on someone's grip. Hey guys, Uh, Jason
Tatum just got in the Killers and you could affect
his entire career.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Hey guys, though a kid. All I can say.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
All I can say in response to that is, uh,
you take it, take it, you take it piece?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
What right, though, Jonas? What is it? What is it? Damn? No,
I thought you was on the same page as me. Riverside, Riverside.
I mean they didn't stop the game. You even went
through the injury. Yeah. Yeah, it's bad.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
It's it's a horrible feeling.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Did you play Pine Box Derby when you were a
kid too? Were you trying bad? Who's going to be
the next one to die?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Was that? Never heard of it? Yeah? The little race
cart things? Race carts?
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Ye, pine box you do like you try and pick
who's going to be the next one to die? No,
never done that. Yeah, it was a game back in
the day. It's very dark. Uh, you know, celebrated.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah, yeah, that didn't need to be brought up. I'm
just not I mean, I'm just wondering. You know box Derby.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
So that was like people going into the newspaper and
seeing who who passed away?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I don't know the exact parameters to it, but I
know that it was basically an essence, who's going to
end up in a pine box next?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
It was really the the the origin of it.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
But and you can gamble on that, right, Like aren't
there lines and odds on people dying?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
I don't believe so, my bet. I think that's called
a death pool? Is what there Isn't that? They do exist,
don't they?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Lee?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
You keep chiming on this, Lee. I'm pretty sure you're
used to this sort of thing. Yeah, Lee? Uh do
you guys? And Lee, are you on any pools? Like?
Is your name up there on the list? Should be?
Speaker 6 (04:37):
Could definitely put in some putting some money, probably get
some good value there.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
There are so far after New Orleans.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
I mean, there are some books that I don't know
about books but overseas betting that you could probably put up.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Do they still play real Russian Roulette? Is that really
still a thing?
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Not sure? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Lee?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Did any play like the other week? Dang No, I
have never played Russian Route.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
I just love that LeVar asked the question, like, so
it's gonna like honestly be able to answer that.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah, you know what, it was a party the other day.
We were best around for about thirty minutes playing.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
I am I am never going to be the one
to underestimate your level of knowledge and things that you know.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
My buddy lives as my buddy lives at Moscow. I
reached out and I'll let you know what he says.
It's uh unfortunate what happened to Jason Tatum last night.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Jalen Brown, the.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Other star for the Celtics, who was just brutal last night,
especially could not hold onto the ball. It seems like
he gets stripped by Michel Bridges every time he's got it.
He spoke following the game about their performance tonight.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
It's tough.
Speaker 7 (05:45):
I think everybody's kind of lost for words, just because
you know, one losing a game, but obviously the concern
with JT. But we pick our heads back up to
go from there. We got enough in this locker room,
so I believe in my guys. We just it was
(06:08):
terrible defensively tonight, to be frank, you know, just no resistance.
We was just too concerned. Offense was great, offense was fine,
we made a lot of shots, but just no resistance
on defense.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
So looks like the top two seeds in the Eastern
comments sounded like he needs a hug. Geez, sucks man.
Losing is not fun, man, It's not fun.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Oh especially, I mean think about both teams, for Cleveland
and Boston, who are by far and away the best
two teams the East, and they just they're not healthy.
They're gonna be limping to even if they ever even
could make it through the rest of the series. And now,
if you're Boston, you're losing your best player. If you're Cleveland,
it sounds like Donovan Mitchell be able to come back
(06:53):
for Game five, but it looks like it's gonna be
a game time decision.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I mean for both states too. Stinks but goes as well.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Yeah, but again Golden State, you know a little different
story with getting Jimmy Buller, if you know, around the
trade deadline and making a push for the playoffs. You know,
these two teams were like if you put Oklahoma City, Boston, Cleveland,
those three, and then you include Okay see from the West,
they were by falling away the best teams in the
NBA this season.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I'm just talking about losinglayer.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
I get that. What I'm saying is to.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Look so drastically different from what they were in the
regular season. Like I was talking to a buddy last
night at a soccer game. He's a big Cleveland Cavs.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Fan, and he's just like, man, it's tough because.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
They don't like it's the excitement everything going into the
playoffs is so different compared to what it feels like
now because it's just not the same team. You know,
you almost don't even recognize them the way they're playing
right now now. If the injuries too, that that plays
a role. So I wonder if the timber Wolves can
get it done this year. It seems like it's lining
up for them.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
To possibly be able to do it.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
This is this is a tough series for Denver and
and for okay See. It's a tough one and it's
it's it's clearly taken a lot out of Denver, more
so than Denver than okay See. I wouldn't say okay
See would come out of that that series tired and
banged up as much as as Denver. If Denver were
(08:22):
to find a way to get out of the oka
CE series and knock them off. I don't know that
Denver is going to have enough to get through that
next round. No, but if Okay c wins, then that's
that's you know, that's a great Western conference. That's a
hell of a that's a hell of a matchup.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
It's awesome too about Minnesota. If they can do it?
Is Alex Rodriguez like, how cool is that for him?
That's pretty cool, I believe.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
I believe in the first year of his majority ownership too,
after the whole dispute with the.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Former ownership, Yeah, what was the what was the story
behind that? That it looked like they had some sort
of an agreement and he backed out and.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Glenn Taylor, the former owner, to sell it all.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
But I don't, I don't, I don't know specifics, not
gonna speak to that.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
You know a lot of.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Times with these deals, you know, you got to have
a certain amount of cash by a certain amount of time,
and people can you know, claim different things, deadlines and
all that. So I'm not exactly sure, but it sounded like,
you know, Glenn Taylor started to see some of the progress.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
They're making they're like, oh, I mean, I don't want
to sell this.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
You know, maybe maybe I could try to push this
off and sue the deal a little bit.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
If you guys could have your wish NBA Finals, perfect world,
what would you get, h.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
I mean, with the team's remaining Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Are you counting Boston and Cleveland still with the shot?
Because obviously I'd picked the Calves.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
I would let let's consider those series done, all right?
If if we had to, uh, you know, if we
had to call it, it.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Would be the Knicks versus the Timberwolves. For me, I
want to see the Timberwolves get there. I want to
see Anthea Edwards take that next step for the Knicks.
I want to see it for the fan base. Brunson's great,
don't get me wrong, and and and all that, but
I want to see it for the Knicks fan base.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
I want to see New York.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
Step up and get excited and fired up as possible,
Like that's the matchup. I'd want to see it. I
don't care if it looks like whatever y'all want to say.
I'd want to see those two fan bases square.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Off Knicks Timberwolves for me as well too, just I
just don't see them getting out of the Pacers series well,
just so the Knicks could lose like I would love
I would love to see it.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Just for that fan base that is so obnoxious. I
would love to see them get to that point and
be like, We're finally going to do this and then
not do it and have it result in the same
thing it's been results bolting in for decades now.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
For that organization, that would be wonderful.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
I think today the best matchup is okay see in
Indiana sticks picks them won't Damn?
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Why does thevar get all the pageantry, all the bells
and whistles, talk to.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Veto Okayang, I like this button? Dang? I mean I
have a live button and Loraina is connected to it.
Got my finger on it, right, Loreno will hit sticks
picks again? Picks down. That's a pick. That's a pick.
(11:39):
There you go. Uh now what I'm picking and what
I think.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
I think the best case scenario finals would be okay
see and in Indiana Haliburton versus you know, S S
G A. Like, That's what I would assume match up wise,
what would be the best matchup? But if we're going
(12:04):
off of sentimental value or likes. And who I want
to see pull it off. Of course I want to
see ant Man pull it off. And who that would
be up against I don't know, but I will say that,
you know, Haliburton is playing playing well. But but my
guy in New York that that Q just mentioned, I
(12:26):
mean he is bawling. Brunson is getting it in like
at a different level. He's he's basically thrown them on
his shoulders and his back and has carried this next
team into an improbable situation that they're in right now.
It just didn't seem like that was feasible that they
would win a series.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Against the you know, the Boston Celtics.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
Yeah, I mean it's a it's a wonderful story for
that organization as well.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
I mean, even.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Tracy Morgan's able to keep his lunch, how about that?
Which is really something because he don't want to miss it.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
You know, all those all those brand new Knicks fans
that have popped up out of sewer covers and said,
oh look at look at me and their celebrity they
just happened to show up at MSG again. It's just
wonderful for the fan base, just a just a great
fan base through and through, nobody better than the Knicks.
All right, so can we can we just get into
this though real quick? Here are we have a guest
(13:21):
here on the show. This is a little early for
this guest to show up on the show, but Robert
Stack is here. Robert Stack obviously you know his work
from Unsolved Mysteries.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
How about the.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Balls on the NBA to roll out that bag of
crap and try and make us all believe that the
Dallas Mavericks, with a one point eight percent chance to
win the draft lottery, get it done. This same year
(13:55):
that they traded away Luca to the Lakers for a
bag of rolled.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Golds and a six pack of bud Light.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
All of a sudden, the Mavericks end up with the
number one pick and they're gonna get Cooper flag Boy.
Of all the odds, of all the chances that this
would happen, it's a load of garbage. And I think
this is the one conspiracy that even anybody who's not
a conspiracy theorist could look at and go all right,
come on, dude, like, let let's let let's be honest here.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
This was that.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
This was groove like what are you gonna do for us, Well, listen,
we've been known to do it in the past. Don't worry,
we'll figure it out. We'll get you guys. The draft life.
This whole thing was groove for Dallas to win it,
and it's disgusting, proved disgusting.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Behare chance and it's groove for them to win it.
It's a garbage's like, don't worry, we'll take care of
you guys. We got you man, the chance of the chances.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Jonas, you're one of those like one percent chance guys,
you know, yeah, and it never works out yeah for you.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
They just got to keep gambling going. Man.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
They made that guarantee to Dallas, and neither one of
them teams is even in the playoffs there the Lakers
aren't there, like you did all that, and they ain't
even pay dividends.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
He's kind of Crazy're gonna place one white out another
white guy?
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Yeah, Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Dang, Yeah, I mean it makes sense.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
It's like, okay, if we're on deck to get this
white guy, I mean we can't you know, we can't
break quota.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Except not an happy hour racist.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
There's only one position for a big name, big time player.
That's white on the team. That's the standard quote. I
mean they they kind of broke the rules of tad
bit at times throughout the history of the game.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
I mean, is there a maximum capacity for white people?
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Yeah, you just can't have too many. Man.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
Then they have Tom Chambers and Dan Marley on the
same team, I want.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Yeah, they were pushing it.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
That was a quota, man, you know, John John Stockton
and Jeff Hornisack like that was like, you know, they
were like you know, and then people thought Melman was
on that team too, like you know, like he was,
you know, swinging on that side. They hit their quota.
You just can't hit your quota, man. And now you
(16:17):
got all these European you know, guys that are filling
the quota. So I don't know how that works if
they're American because flag is American.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Yeah, so I don't know how that one works. Well.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks. Against all odds, it's safe
to be a Mavericks fan again. I wouldn't say that,
Nico Harrison, is that what it's going to be. You've
done it, tang.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Unreal.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Be sure to catch live editions of two pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports, It's Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Of course, there's the big news in the world of sports,
Jason Tatum waiting word on what most people assume will
be an achilles rupture. And they are getting an MRI
done on Jason Tatum later on today, so we will
find out what the severity of the injury is that
he went down with last night against the Knicks and
their loss down three to one in that series. And
(17:25):
then the Minnesota Timberwolves have the Golden State Warriors on
the brink as well too, up three.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Is that is that it? Oh? No? Is that a leak? Oh?
I think that is a leak.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
In fact, I've seen a leak right here that apparently
a playoff rematch is expected in week ten on Monday
Night Football, that being the Packers hosting the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Leaks are already coming out. Look at that, Look at that?
Where do you go? Lee? By the way, why why
would this be one of the games that they would leak?
What is it? Like?
Speaker 2 (18:08):
What's the significance of this it's a random game when
Week ten.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Week ten, Monday Night Football, November tenth.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Okay, I'm out on this whole leak thing, the whole
The NFL has made something out of the draft, they
made something out of the combine.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
They haven't figured out the schedule. Release.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
This is not working for me. I don't think it's
working for other people too.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
SAME's corny. Just release schedule. But I mean, it's not
as bad as this leak noise. It is not even
anywhere close to this. Yeah, I'm trying to fix the leak,
trying my best here. Leaked a lap. Yeah, I'm not
(18:52):
in oh man, this is big stuff here. The NFL
is like, hey, we'll give them a little bit at
a time. Hey dropped that Week ten catch up? Please wait?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
What where these international games are supposed to drop?
Speaker 5 (19:05):
It sounds like I feel like I should be doing
my bluetoo read right now.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Wait that sounded now if you take that? He all right.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
So we do want to let you know before we
get into the return of the Goat, that we are
brought to you by Express Pros. Ready for a new job,
Let Express Employment professionals help. While Express helps people in
all industries find work. Our sweet spot is logistic roles
and Express never change it never charges job seekers for
a fee, So go to expresspros dot com. So Michael
(19:40):
Jordan is back. The goat is back, and he's been
hired as a contributor. When NBC takes over their right
having the rights of the NBA next year, they'll get
the coverage back after a long ass time. Michael Jordan
has been hired as a contributor. Uh so he is, Uh,
(20:03):
he is back? How how involved?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Who knows? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (20:07):
But can I can I bring this up? Though we
were in the golden age, if you were a TV
consumer of sports, where you've got Michael Jordan now the goat,
Wayne Gretzky the goat, you can go to baseball if
you will. I'm not sure that we've We've got some
guys that you maybe put in that conversation, maybe not
(20:28):
quite there, but Tom Brady the goat doing football. I mean,
name another time when you had this many all time,
greatest of all time players in their respective realms talking
about their sport. And you can even go a step
further if you want to include golf. Tiger's not there yet,
(20:49):
but Jack obviously has kind of been in and out
a part of stuff, and I think Tiger one day
it would be entertaining to put him on a broadcast.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
And he'd be in that conversation. I like it.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
If you know, a lot of people may not have
heard Michael Jordan's speak a whole lot. You know, he's
very obscure nowadays for for a pretty pretty long time.
But if you've ever heard him interview or have heard
him speak, he's pretty dope.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Very dynamic.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
Dude has real, real strong command of of how he
presents himself and and and just the way he communicates.
So it's not like he would get in front of
the camera and not be the man Like I think,
if Michael Jordan is going to get in front of
a camera and do analysis and and break down what's
(21:46):
going on, it's going to come across as very much
Michael Michael Jordan, Michael Jeffrey Jordan, and I'm a watch,
I'll certainly watch. I'll be in in that and and
wanting to hear how it comes across and how it
goes you know, goes you know, out to to us
(22:09):
the listener, because.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
There still has to be a relative way of I.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
Guess connecting with with that person who's talking about it
like he's been gone.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
For so long. And listen, we saw the Last Dance.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
Last Dance gave you like kind of a reintroduction into
how great Michael Jordan's greatness truly is. But I mean
it's for like someone like Tom Brady being a goat
and going into it. It's like people still can remember
him as a player, you know, and and it's there's
still a recency effect. I'd be curious to see when
(22:45):
somebody comes in of Michael Michael Jordan's caliber and his level,
what that's like when he starts, you know, talking about
what's going on, because it's going to be a lot
of criticism.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
That's that's what media is.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
So when he's giving his takes and he's offering, you know,
critiques of what's taking place, I wonder how that'll be received.
What do you think the check is for him that
they're cutting? Like, what what is it worth it to him?
Speaker 3 (23:13):
At this? Want to show up? I mean think about
it though.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
So this is for NBC, right, NBC also got when
gretzkyd to come out and contribute be a part of it,
So it can't it can't be an easy sell for
guys who haven't done it for such a long period
of time, and then they bring them in and which
which draws the question why now from Michael Jordan. You know,
he's a billionaire, he's you know, incredibly successful everything he's done,
(23:39):
from you know, obviously basketball, but to apparel to everything else.
So why now is? I think what's the most interesting
part of this? And I've got a theory on this.
I don't know if it's a conspiracy theory. Maybe we
could play Robert ste but oh no, all happened, Roberts.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Is anyone?
Speaker 5 (24:02):
Is anyone there? Yeah, she's not. She's not paying any attention.
I'm not going to happen.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
All right, We'll just move forward. Yeah, what's it going on?
Speaker 5 (24:14):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Oh, I hit my headphones out, guys.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Oh okay, bad news beers, bad news beers.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
Wow, in our minds, I think we all three agree
Michael Jordan's the greatest of all time basketball fair enough. Yeah, Okay,
that's not necessarily how everyone sees it, though. There's a
lot of people who try to make the case for
maybe a couple other guys that are out there, one
in particular that's still playing, although those days of Lebron
(24:53):
James still playing are probably coming to an end. And
what do you think Lebron going to want to do
after he's done? Do you think he's just gonna want
to fade off into the sunset, never to be heard again.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
I think this is a goat move by the Goat
and Michael Jordan to jump ahead of where I think
Lebron James would want to be at some point in time.
And if you are the goat, and you are the
authoritative figure where you are on a major network like this,
(25:28):
you are a part of the broadcast, the coverage, it's
gonna speak volumes, and it's gonna be able to give
him that platform. That not saying that he doesn't have
the ability to throw something out on x or any
other social media platform, but this provides him the opportunity
(25:49):
around the NBA schedule to be the voice, that one
voice as far as the goat ahead of Lebron James,
if and when he retires, and if and when and
he wants to get to the TV, which I do
think there will be a desire to do so, because
Lebron James likes trying to control the narrative in this case,
(26:10):
can't really control the narrative because no one's gonna want
to listen to him as much as they will Michael Jordan.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
In my opinion, this is a hell of a thought process.
There a round of applause.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
That makes sense.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
I mean, you'd have to believe that Lebron James is
going to be on a full court press media trail
without a doubt forever once he retires.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
Because think about this, like if you're if you're looking
at Michael Jordan's legacy as far as the basketball, He's
six and zero, right as far as the NBA championships,
never beaten all that, Lebron doesn't have the championships to
stack up next to Michael Jordan's. So then there has
to be these discussions, these debates, these arguments.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
And he's going to have every last one of them.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Yeah, and he and he's going to have all those
stats all that, But and I don't know that he'll
have every last one of them because there' certain things
he's just not gonna be able to do at this
point time in his career. And we can you.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Know, go, no, I'm talking about he's going to discuss
every why every.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Single one of them. Yeah, absolutely he is.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
So because of that, I think this gives Michael Jordan
now the platform and the ability to remain current, to
keep his legacy at the top where it should be.
I mean, it makes a ton of sense through this
generation of kids who don't understand and don't get it.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
Yeah, they don't know him, they don't know who Michael
Jordan is. And I think that that that is. I
think that's a hell of a take, honestly, because again,
if if you re establish your voice and he is
good enough to reestabize, it's not like he's going to
come in, You're gonna be like, I don't like listening
to him. Like the way he talks and the way
he interacts. If it's still the same as it was
(27:51):
when he was a player, he's as captivating an interviewer
or interview as he is a player that he will
on the court.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
It's also when the one thing you notice about Gretzki
when he does stuff for TNT is the reverence those
guys at the desk all half form, the respect they get,
and so like Paul Bissonette is you know, very popular,
especially with a younger crowd, because he has a Spit
and chick Lits podcast through Barstool and all that, and
the way he talks about Gretzki he's been Jordan's going
(28:22):
to be on that desk or doing whatever he's doing,
and people there are going to also be telling his
story because they're going to realize we're with the goat now,
like like we're with this guy. To be able to
have that channel, to be able to promote and remind
people of who he is, maybe people that never got
(28:42):
to watch him play.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
As you pointed out, Yeah, I think it makes a
lot of sense.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
And they're, you know, cutting a check. I meant, yes,
how much you think he's making. I don't know how
much he's making. But I think what Q is touching
on is the value of why he's doing it, not
what he's getting paid. It's the value of being able
to read. Somebody probably told him either he was sitting
(29:07):
somewhere quiet or whatever, sent with friends, somebody said what
Q just said, Like, you do know Lebron already has
he has a media company. For one, he already does
a podcast where he sits in the barbershop for two,
so he's already established that he's in media and understands
(29:28):
how to leverage media. You basically like disappeared, like nobody
hears from you. You know, like I said, the last
dance comes out, it was like dang, like that was
an amazing event to see, you know, the old old
things that took place, or hear the commentary from old players,
(29:50):
but that's still not a current voice.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
And the last thing we did hear from him, he
was the owner of the Hornets and they sucked. Yeah,
but you didn't really hear it from him. But and
you haven't heard anything really basketball wise.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
You only hear about his son, like that's really it.
And you don't really hear his boys.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
You just see pictures seeah, I mean he likes to party.
Booger sugar.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
I think this is a hell of a Trump move
to come into the media game because there's really no
other reason for him to do it. He doesn't need
to do it to improve the game, even though it
would improve I'm sure it would improve ratings or improve
the I don't know the viewership. Maybe the interest level
(30:39):
goes up depending on how well he does, But he
doesn't need to feel like he needs to do that
for the NBA. You know, if we're looking at the
sole purpose as to why Michael Jordan would do it,
it can't be because he's bored. He doesn't live like
the man's private jet is painted it and and designed
(31:02):
the same way as a pair of is Jordan's shoes?
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Really?
Speaker 5 (31:05):
Yeah, Bro, like that rhino pri e rhino print that
you know, that rhino print that they have it is
pretty dope.
Speaker 7 (31:13):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
I mean he's not bored. He goes fishing, he's got
that Marlin team, he's got a race team. I mean,
he's got a ton of stuff going on. So this
is not a move generated based upon him just sitting
at home being bored. I think this has everything to
do with what Q said, which is you're getting ahead
of Lebron James before Lebron James gets it out of
the game, starts out into media and then starts to
(31:38):
basically like strategically make the arguments and point out the
information that that paints him as the goat, and now.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
You just do it. What I love about it too, is.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
What's different about taking on a job with a network
is you don't have complete control over anything other than
what you say. When you produce for example that he's
got the barbershop thing he does, he controls all of that,
He controls the editing, he controls what's a part of it,
what's not. You know, you can manufacture a lot of
(32:14):
how you look and how.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
You sound and how you come off.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
What I love about the world of network TV is
when that red light comes on, there's no editing. It's
live and in a world that we live in where
we've got a bunch of digital platforms and digital spaces,
and everyone puts their best foot forward, and everyone shows
you that dude perfect video where they had made this
ridiculous trick shot on the first try. It's all bs,
(32:41):
it's all bs, and it's not a true representation of
who that individual is. And so what I love about
the fact that he's doing this is you're going to
get the real, raw version of MJ and his mentality,
how he solved his journey for people who didn't know about,
(33:02):
you know, his journey in high school, you know, not
making the team and motivating him to be able to
work that much harder to make it eventually make varsity
and then obviously go to North Carolina and the kind
of the rest is history.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
When he gets.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
Drafted the Bulls, but also his mentality of how he
sees the game, how.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
It should be played.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
These younger generations need to hear that from a guy
who lived it, because Kobe embodied some of that too
and trying to follow in Jordan's footsteps. But there's not
enough guys now in the NBA who play the way Jordan.
I mean, obviously no one could play to his capabilities,
but viewed the game the way he did. And that's
(33:43):
one of the things that I'm most looking forward to
as we see a shift and stuff and look, you know,
when Lebron James is done, it is that one of
the greatest careers we've ever seen segain some would say
maybe the best. But the mentality was so different from
Michael Jordan, where he was looking to make the smart
basketball play instead of taking the shot with three guys
(34:05):
on him to go win it for his team. And
I'm sorry, like, maybe you side then with Lebron James,
or if you're an analytic scheeking like well, it's the
smarter decision from a statistical state, Okay, I want the
guy who wants that shot. I don't care if there's
five guys in the court on him. That's who I
want on my team. That's the guy if I'm a
fan I.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
Want to root for.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
That's why I loved Kobe. That's why, as much as
it pained me to admit this, I like respected the
hell and admired Michael Jordan, even though he would crush
my dreams as a kid being a Cleveland Cavaliers fan.
And unfortunately the NBA does not have enough guys like that. So, yes,
that voice is gonna it's gonna come back up again,
(34:47):
I think, and hopefully preach to a lot of younger
generations too.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
You know who made you mentioned some people might think
Lebron is the best ever. Reggie Miller was on All
the Smoke and he made I thought pretty pretty interesting
comment about the debate between Jordan and Lebron. He said
that Jordan's the best ever, but Lebron had the best career,
(35:11):
which if you if you actually look at it, it
does make sense because even for example, you know Jason
Tatum going down with the injury last night, Damian Lillard,
the fact that Lebron's been able to do this for
as long as he's done it at the level he's
done it at is wild. Nobody's ever done it like
this ever, not even Jordan. Jordan's the best ever, I agree,
(35:32):
but it is he does bring the point of.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
People make arguments like you know, Dennis Rodman made the
argument point that maybe Jordan decids he wants to play
longer if the league is like what it is now.
They said, Jordan would have probably averaged fifty points a
game in this in this era of time, the spacing
of the of the players, the lack of defense that's
(35:55):
being played, the way the referees call the games. I mean,
it's just a very different game. There's a lot of
high patheticals to throw out there as to why one
may be better than the other, you know.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
I mean I don't know that.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
I mean, you could say Lebron James has is the
greatest to ever have longevity of success in the NBA
and then maybe even in sports, like I don't. I
don't have a problem with that, but better career, I don't.
I don't think that that would equate that he did
it for as long as he did that that constitutes
(36:28):
him being anointed the greatest career of all time. Like
I don't, I don't necessarily subscribe to that.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Man, pretty impressive.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
It's he has had an impressive career, no doubt about it.
But he's had an impressive career with longevity. It's it's
the longevity that that and the relevance of the longevity.
I mean, Michael Jordan didn't have access to all of
the perks and the bells and whistles of what social
has done.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
For what people have going on.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
Now, imagine if that all existed when Michael Jordan was
playing Twitter and Instagram and Facebook and all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Imagine it is pretty incredible to think like he was
a worldwide phenomenon before all that really became and to
existing crazy man, that's how big of a deal he
was of that stuff was around. Though, for being honest,
what it's probably better for him none of that stuff
was around.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
You're too much into conspiracy. You could you could you could.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
Make that for any player. Now, there's a lot to
be said for what LeVar is saying. And I think, like,
here's the thing is when you watch both, and for
those who grew up in eras where you could watch both,
you know what, you know the difference when you see
it and you're just like, all right, that guy was
the greatest ever at that time, and look, maybe someone
(37:50):
will come along and be better, but still to this
day it's Michael Jordan and we don't have to go
through eras and all that.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
He was a goat without a doubt, and.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Is going to be fun watching them on television be
the goat, because at the end of the day, what
are you going to say?
Speaker 3 (38:07):
He's there?
Speaker 5 (38:09):
You could say whatever you want when somebody is in present,
but he's going to be on television. You're going to
see him, You're going to hear his voice. So it's
going to be interesting to see. You know, the king
is returning, so it'd be interesting.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
We do have more details on the disaster behind the
scenes with George Pickens and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Uh Oh.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Mark Coboli, who covered the Steelers for a long time
now contributor to the Pat McAfee Show, had this to
say yesterday. More on the Steelers trading George Pickens to Dallas,
significant locker room guys got fed up with pickens antics
and quickly got turned off by him for multiple reasons.
Some felt it would be counterproductive to keep him around,
(39:11):
even with his unique talent. They felt the locker room
could turn toxic. Not many teams were interested in trading
for Pickens, making it difficult for the Steelers to get
market value. The Steelers wouldn't have traded him for anything
less than a third round pick, something that wasn't offered
until after the draft, and not many were broken up
within the organizations that Pickens got traded. So it's another
(39:34):
case of disgruntled or troublesome wide receiver in Pittsburgh gets
dealt and they're just ready to move on and take
what they can get and cut their losses.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
You know what's interesting about hearing that trade compensation is
typically teams view future draft capital as like a round later.
So if it's twenty twenty five, you get a third
round pick, they really viewed as a fourth round pick.
So it's funny to say they wouldn't deal him for
anything other than a third It's say, well, you kind
of did, because you end up waiting till after the
(40:06):
draft to do it and all that.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
It's crazy to think though the track record they've had
of wide receivers they've moved on from has usually worked
in the favor of Pittsburgh. So we'll see if this
works out for Pickens. But I mean, he's so early
on in his career, it's hard to think that he's
not gonna be able to showcase some of the talent
(40:31):
that we saw at times. But I also think if
there wasn't a market for him, it's probably because every
other team saw what we saw. There's times he has
plays brilliantly and there's times when you watch them and
you think he's just disinterested in the game altogether.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
You know, people have, again, legends in the organization or
part of the Pittsburgh Steelers community have come out and
had some pretty strong criticisms towards toward Pickens. Even at
times on the larger networks, some of the analysts have
(41:06):
had strong opinions that aren't very flattering of George Pickens.
I think in this scenario, he gets the opportunity to
take all of the wrong that may have transpired developed happened,
however it unfolded, he took. He gets the opportunity to
(41:28):
take a different step forward, a different path forward, going
to Dallas.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
One. It's a market that will support, you know.
Speaker 5 (41:40):
That that action of redemption, Like he can redeem himself
in Dallas, the market will embrace him to redeem himself.
So I feel like the Dallas Cowboys get an amazing,
an amazing asset because everything that went wrong, could imagine
George Pickens doesn't want to become a latest statistic and
(42:05):
casualty of wide receivers that left Pittsburgh and their careers
kind of plummeted. After you're going to get the best
foot being put forward by George Pickens. Dallas is going
to get a George Pickens that is engaged, is wanting
to see his team do well, wanting to do well.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
You know why.
Speaker 5 (42:27):
You know what, else, there's still a contract to be done,
There's still a contract to be had, He's still on
his rookie contract. And so to me, this one, this
one is a win for Dallas. I do not see
this as a win.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
You know. On the show on.
Speaker 5 (42:45):
Saturday, Plexico Burris went as far as to say he
felt like, and what you get when George Pickens is
focused and is going in the right direction, dk metca.
He's not sure that DK metcalf is a better receiver
than George Pickens. George Pickens is, he said, a top
(43:06):
five and when he's motivated and playing the way he's
supposed to play, he's a top five receiver in the league.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
He's slick man. That's pretty high praise.
Speaker 5 (43:16):
And so to me, when you think about it from
that perspective, you just got rid of a player and
he was probably the best best player at that position
on your roster. That's that's saying something. Now, it could
be they could be better by subtraction, but still that's
(43:41):
saying something. If you got rid of a talent that
would have been the best talent at that position, you
should not make a habit of allowing the best players
at their position to leave your team, especially going into
their prime. He's not even in the prime of his
career yet, he's still young. The more I think about
the deal, the worse I think the deal is for
(44:02):
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
WHOA Because if you've got a guy like that and
all this stuff starts to come out, like you would
want that guy to be in a situation with a
stable organization.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
That can manage that temperament.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
And when I think stable organization that can manage all that,
I don't think of the Dallas Cowboys. I think of
a circus, and they'll welcome it and they'll bring him
in because he does have talent. But there's so many
ifs with him that, Look, he's he's in Pittsburgh, like
(44:38):
he could have been the guy with that organization, and
then you come to find out, oh he was. You know,
just last year alone, find like over two hundred thousand
dollars by the team in the league for various situations
that have popped up. One report that was out there
whether or not this is true, he showed up ten
minutes before a game and he was eating Twizzlers like
(44:58):
it just like you hear all this stuff that comes out.
He was late to the Christmas game, Like I don't
think Dallas is the place where you get right, Like
Dallas is a place where you can be a star.
But he's got so much baggage with him. It's self
awareness though, I mean, like the reality of what's taking place.
(45:18):
He's leaving where.
Speaker 5 (45:21):
He got drafted to and no matter how dramatic or
how kind of intense you may look at some of
the things that he's done extreme some of the things
that he's done. Sometimes it takes somebody doing something to you,
(45:42):
doing something for you, something happening to you, something happening
for you to understand and have a level of, you know,
perspective on what you have going on personally. It could
be like a death in your family. Certain things will
force you to take inventory on yourself. I think this
(46:02):
is big enough happening for George Pickens for him to
take inventory on himself. And if he does, then he
puts himself in a position where he can be in
an alls forgiven type of scenario and he gets the
contract that he wants in the end. That's the type
of player I want if I'm bringing a player in,
a motivated player. I do not see George Pickens going
(46:26):
in and perpetuating maybe what he perceives as the rumors
or the things that are being gossiped or discussed about
him in public. He has the opportunity to write that.
I don't see why he would waste that opportunity. I
don't see why any player would waste that opportunity. It's
not like he's a degenerate that you know, like he
(46:50):
can't stop doing this off of the field.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
Being on time. People can help you with that.
Speaker 5 (46:58):
You know, doing the little things the right way in
the game, people can help him with that. But most importantly,
he'll have that self awareness. I think this is a
part of a maturing process for him and a wake
up call because it costed him his opportunity to get
a big payday in Pittsburgh and stay as a Pittsburgh Steeler.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
So I don't see it as a problem for for Dallas, and.
Speaker 5 (47:21):
He'll be okay with not being the number one and
probably not being the number two.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
It's not the number two two, Jake Fergus stop, bro stop.
It's a one year.
Speaker 4 (47:34):
It's a one year rental or a one year and
we'll see if he plays up to his capabilities for
seventeen games.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
I actually should even say that because.
Speaker 4 (47:44):
We've seen Granted, Dak Prescott had a little more equity
built up, but when he got his deal, he played
what four games that season, and he was still able
to sign a monumental deal after that. So if he
goes there, ax Wright plays up to his capabilities, he's
gonna have a big pay.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
In the side of this.
Speaker 5 (48:02):
You're gonna get his best foot because of that, right,
And that's just just ultimately, and to be honest with you,
he may come out of this whole entire scenario looking better,
way better than even what he you know, had going
on in Pittsburgh. It's just that that's the setup for
him here. I hope he doesn't waste that opportunity. All right,
(48:25):
I'm not listen, I'm not I'm not going safe for
certain that you're not right. I'm just saying, how much
of a miss would that be if you've earn't the
reputation that is kind of it teeters on one side
or the other on if you like him or not
based upon things he's done. And he has the opportunity
to start over somewhere else on the cusp of getting
(48:47):
a big contract, and he can be considered one of
the most elite in the league. Why would you go
and continue to do anything that would perpetuate what's been
said about you that led to you you being in
the situation you're in now. If he does, then then
you know what, God speed, get right.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
I would feel better about it if he was going
to a place like Philly, which has shown the ability
to deal with anybody who's got off you know, off
field issues or troubles and and you're looking for them
to get like that, I would feel better about that.
Dallas just feels like a place where it's like, all right,
we're here here there, and we're getting coverage and Jerry
(49:31):
Jones will talk about it, and we've got an agent
who Jerry Jones has already called out that's going to
be looking for the contract.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
In David Willagatta.
Speaker 2 (49:37):
You've got like all these other things are added into
the mix. Just feel like that's not the best recipe
for him to get to find himself as a player.
Speaker 5 (49:46):
The beauty of sports is we'll see it play out
and we'll see what happens, you know, Ferguson, We'll see
what happens.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Right, Yeah, it's number two.
