Jeff Schwartz. Anything crazy plan today?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
No? I don't think so. I mean watching what ten
hours of continuous football? Is that a crazy It feels
like a regular Sunday to me. Here Saturday for me,
or I mean this week it's racy Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
It's like it's a full four day festive of football,
NFL college football. My duck's got a big game tomorrow night.
(01:31):
You're Irish, are going to pound on this on the
porch stand for Cardinal this weekend and we've NFL to watch.
So your team has a black Friday game, my chiefs.
I don't know what what They can move the ball
anyone right now. So I'm watching football this week. But
they making a turkey today Friday. Turkey, got a bunch
of sides and then I'll just eat the turkey till
there's zero meat on the bone for next three or
(01:52):
four days. Yeah, it's just living the dream, how about you?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
That is a great game plan. It's pretty much the same.
I came home to see family in South Bend, so
be hanging out with them all day today. Very much
looking forward to it. And like you said, man, it
is a ball buffet, not just today but for day.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
A ball buffet. And who Brian and you got you
got other sports too, which I haven't pay as much
attention to, but they're on as well. Do you guys,
is your family I imagine no name fans.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah yeah, yeah, like my dad, especially my mom also,
but my sister doesn't care about sports at all? What's
up with that?
Speaker 2 (02:32):
So is it like rudy for you guys on game day?
You guys just sit for the TV and take it
to You're irish.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
You know, it's weird because I've been I've lived all
over the country just with radio stuff. Yeah, so most
of the time I'm not around, So when I am,
We've gone to games at times, and then I'm having
a hard time remembering what game day is like when
I am around, right, Like, yeah, though I don't know
(03:02):
we watched times. But let me ask you this before
we get to the games today, because I'm glad that
you started off on the right foot talking about you're
all in on turkey? Like, what do you make of
these people that bad mouthed turkey. There's it's a growing
trend over the last handsfully.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Because that's why because you get to eat, you get
social media points for for being I I don't like turkey.
No one never eat turkey otherwise I'm like, I have
make turkey sandwiches all the time. What are we talking
about Yeah, I don't think I have a fried turkey leg,
but I have turkey legs throughout the season at time
and throughout the year at times. I make them go
to Disney leg grow myself a turkey leg I I eat.
(03:45):
It's because people want to be trendy. They just want
they want to be like, oh ha ha, I'm a
I'm too good for them for Thanksgiving, you know, I
I got extra turkey parts to fry. I like the turkey.
That's what I enjoy eating. I am not a dessert person.
I'm not sure to have the turkey is the dessert.
But and then the other trendy thing too Brian to
(04:05):
do is just to bash desserts, even though I will
say that a lot of dessert if it has a
fruit in it, it's kind of gross. But people get
really angry and offended if you like, have the wrong
take about pie and stuff. It's just like guys, everyone
needs their own food. To let him be. Let him be.
I like the turkey. I'm gonna fry. It tastes it's
(04:26):
right now, it's dry, brunning in the fridge. So I
injected it last night with creole butter, and then I overnight,
I salted on the outside, you know, like a little salt, pepper, rosemary,
and then I so dries out in the fridge overnight.
Yeah it's uncovered. So it's uncovered in the fridge overnight,
and then today when I put in the fryer, the
(04:47):
skin should be even crispir.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Sounds tremendous right there. Like for anybody out there that
has never had a deep fried turkey, man, you are
missing out. It is a tremendous experience right there.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
So it takes you on a thirteen pound turkey, takes
fifteen minutes to cook. Yeah, it's it's like it's perfect.
So it's a perfect it's a perfect way to consume,
you know, your food.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
What do you think as we look at the NFL
games today? Of the three games, which one do you
think is the crescendo, if you will, right, the most
bang for your buck, the most drama, this is the
highlight of let's think of your Thanksgiving meal, right whatever
your favorite you know, portion or side is which game
(05:35):
do you think is that today?
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I've been thinking about this, Brian, because we have a
show with you on Sunday's candel to kick Off where
we discuss the gambling, you know, parts of the NFL
Nation Football League. And I imagine that a lot of
people wake up today I want to wager on the games,
right as everyone does. Yeah, and they're going to see
(05:57):
the points spreads for a lot of these games, and
they're gonna go. You know what I can do today?
I can money line Lions, Cowboys, Niners, all right, I
can part of money line parlay these three teams. And
so my idea is, like, who's gonna lose? He's going
to ruin the money line parlay? And the easy answer,
(06:20):
I think it's I think it's Seattle. But I have
the Niners minus seven in my contest this week, so
I hope it's not that. I hope it's not Seattle.
I think just with Gino Smith. He's playing, but like,
you know, how how healthy is he? I think Christian McCaffrey,
I think it's sort of beat up to though, and
you know, and and I just don't I don't know,
like if no, no, actually sorry, it's not. It's not
(06:43):
my CAF. It's not McCaffrey. It's a different He's fine.
So I got to text out someone about McCarthy. That's
not my CAF. That's not McCaffrey, So I just I
don't know. My My best guess is one of the
first of the two early games, right, and the Cowboys
(07:07):
are historically awful against the spread. On Thanksgiving they are
one and I think one for their last twelve.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Covering Thanksgiving, Holy Cow.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
One and eleven the last twelve Thanksgivings because he's the
line is thirteen and a half Raks.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
That's a ton of points.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Because the Washington is very feisty in offense, and I
think it's probably like Sam Howe doing insane things today
and winning the game for them. That that's my that's
my guess as for the upset, because the Packers are
playing better but still can't really score. If you look
at there, you know it's twenty, it's thirty, it's it's
(07:46):
twenty three. Like that to me is not going to
cut against the Lions again at night if if you know,
if Gino Smith is an all beat up, there's not
They're not gonna keeping Drew Lock. Do you watch them
last week? Like get out of here?
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Right?
Speaker 2 (08:01):
So it does feel like it's that game though, right,
like it's the middle game where Washing just has Sam Howe.
You know, three fifty performance, no turnovers, and like, just right,
the Cowboys get tight in a close game with it.
They don't play a lot of them. Does it feel
like that to you?
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah? I could see that. I look at it where
look man Sam Howell leads the league in passing yards,
he leads the league in passing attempts. They just air
it out and it's a divisional game. It's an interesting
spot because the Cowboys have been crushing bad teams this year,
(08:41):
and so you could look at it from that standpoint
and say, well, here we go again. They're probably gonna
crush Washington, who just got worked by the Giants last week.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
You know.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
But on the flip side of it, they just they
don't have anything to lose, and they just came off
an embarrassing performance. They could do to the Cowboys what
the Giants just did to them, you know what I mean?
Where you look at the Giants, they were completely embarrassed
the week prior, and then they come out and they
(09:12):
put it on Washington. I just think that is a
ton of points. I don't know that Washington comes out
and wins outright like the Giants did last week against them,
but I think they've got enough firepower to keep it
within thirteen. Thirteen's a ton of points in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
It's a lot of points, especially when it went from
you know where was that at opened? To ten? Like
it end?
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Right?
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Think about this though, Brian, the Commanders, I keep on
want to call them the Herwards. Still it was just
never it never gets okay. So uh, they were nine
point favorites, I believe nine a half of its giants
and one week they the point. The points for their
(10:00):
game is twenty points different. Wow, right, they went from
nine points to thirteen is underdog? That that feels like
an extreme overreactions.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
That, yeah, that's a huge overreaction.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Part of it, I would imagine is because and fairly
enough that like the Cowboys have shown this year outside
of the Arizona game, that they just destroy destroy bad
football teams, right, I mean they've covered they covered ten
and a half of the road last beginning with ease.
And so there's that idea that and they're really their
(10:33):
bill because they're their defense is abut to rush the
passer when you are behind, impassable so much that's that's
they get after, right, They're get after and so they
started to think that that's in play here. But still,
I mean, they could win this game with ease, you know,
thirty one twenty and not cover. Thirty won twenty one,
and that's not a cover. So from a Gallwi perspective,
(10:56):
you take Washington, push the thirteen thirteen and a half,
who outright in this who ruins the moneyline? Parley that today?
I don't know, buddy, Yeah, I know.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
I think about the Lions. They were they should have
lost last week to Chicago.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah, I think that to me that, I mean, you
know that happens every now and then. Are good teams
play those games? Right?
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Yeah? Absolutely? And I'm not telling you I'm rushing to
the betting window to take the Packers' money line here.
But it seems like someone's gonna mess this up if
you just go straight favorites all across the board to win, outright,
it feels like someone's gonna come up short. Certainly if
you went every favorite minus the points. I don't see
(11:42):
that working out in all three games.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Nould say the one I wagered on today, I mean,
like officially wagered on. I'm sure I'll put money on
every game at some point. Today is you know, nine
ers minus seven. I think that, you know, I'm not
always a big fan of taking the road team in
a divisional game like this, but I just think Quit
have a little bit of a Buffalo Bills to them.
Where would they win? They win by a lot of points,
(12:06):
like they rarely win in like barely cover games. They
win by a ton. And you look at Seattle right now,
and I just think that, you know, if Gino isn't
all hampered and he said he had a what was
it a sore triceps?
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Yeah, triceps? Yeah, got going on.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I don't know if you happen to catch. I had
the rams last weekend, so I was able to. I
was watching a little bit of that of that game,
Like Drew Locke is not a functional NFL quarterback and
if he has to play it all And Seattle, I
think is a team that we give the benefit of
the doubt too because of Pete Carroll. He definitely deserves it.
(12:44):
But they're not. They're not playing good football in general.
They just aren't. They have it for a month now,
and uh, I think I was gonna are gonna if
they get up in this game, it's gonna be bad
news for Seattle.
Speaker 3 (12:58):

(15:36):
beaks in the black Friday waters for a second, Jeff,
you got the Dolphins against the Jets. I didn't think
this stat was real, Tim Boyle. He takes over a
starting quarterback, Zach Wilson has been benched, and somebody just
threw this out there or I read it and I
was like, that can't be. Somebody said it. I can't
(15:56):
remember who.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Yeah, Tim Boyle, you would think okay, in the NFL,
he hasn't played a whole lot.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
The stats aren't great. He's thrown three touchdown passes and
nine interceptions. But I was like, well, it's gotta be
a lot better in college, right he's in the NFL. No,
not the case. His college stats across four seasons at
Yukon and then at Eastern Kentucky twelve touchdown passes Jeff
twenty six interceptions, and I'm like, how can that be?
(16:30):
He had one touchdown in thirteen picks at Yukon, and
Yukon at that time was a complete grease fire. They're
back to being a grease fire this year. By the way.
But you put that to the side. At Eastern Kentucky
there was still a couple more interceptions than touchdowns. He
was eleven and thirteen. That blows my mind that he
had more interceptions than touchdowns in college and he's in
(16:52):
the NFL. That's insane to me.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Oh, well, he's a savior for the Jets now too, right.
I mean, they're gonna they just they switch from Zacha
into Tim Boyle. They're gonna they're going to uh win. Now,
they're gonna beat the They're gonna beat the Dolphins. It's
a it's a it's a miracle. I think he's even
in the NFL. But the Jets lack of foresight and
having any plan without Aaron Rodgers is inexcusable. Right. You know,
(17:22):
the Patriots drafted a quarterback every three years to have
in case Tom Brady got hurt, right, and Tom Brady
rarely got hurt. And when they did have a guy,
Jimmy Garoppolo, he helped him win a lot of football
games right when when he was out where Tom was out,
it didn't happen often. Always prepared. Look at Kansas City
over the years, they lost Mahomes in two playoff games
(17:47):
for a period of time.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Two playoff games, the entire second.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Half of one playoff game, and that was I think
the Chad Henney had that the long you know, the
long quarterback run there right to help him against the
Browns one year. And then last year, once again Mahomes
was out against Jacksonville, chn Henny led a ninety eight
yard touchdown drive. I think it was right, and they
(18:12):
won that playoff game. Like, you have to have a
capable backup if you're going to have a started with
Aaron Rodgers, I understand. I totally get the idea that
you put all your chips in for Aaron Rodgers and
that if he if he was out for any period
of time, you probably working to win anything. And guess
(18:32):
what if you had ched Henny this year, you're working
with a super Bowl. But obviously Aaron Rodgers coming back
at three weeks, so you know, if you just held
held the four down, you'd be able to have Rogers
playing a couple of weeks and everything be fine. Rogers,
by the way, is not playing in three weeks. That's insane.
It's been three months since he had achille surgery. He
just wants his name to be in the news. Nonetheless
(18:53):
they had then they had nothing, nothing, no plan if
Rogers got hurt, no viable backup because this team has
a lot obviously we know defensively very good, but offensively
with Brits Hall and Garrett Wilson, their offensive line is
a little beat up. And I saw Dwayne Brown might
be coming back like they have a chance to Dan
It's used to be a playoff team with a viable
(19:14):
backup this season again, no Street Bowl champion. You're you know,
you're you're you're You're not being the Chiefs and arrowhead
you know right now the Chiefs offense, little little sospect,
you're not being the Ravens in Baltimore in the playoffs
right now. But you give yourself no opportunity zero to
win it all with Tim Boyle and Zach Wilson. And
(19:35):
to me, that is bad, General Managerie, it's bad.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Well, that's the thing too, is this is a weird
spot to be in because by no means, am I
you know, arguing on the behalf of my client, Zach Wilson.
You know what I mean, right, But Tim Boyle hasn't
gotten that utterly wretched with Zach Wilson that you have
(20:04):
to go with Tim Boyle. What are you doing with
Tim Boyle? So today and going forward? I don't know
to explain that.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
I'll explain from a you know, a point of perspective.
It's in the locker room, and I think you know
you'll understand that it's not it's not a hard concept.
Is that I I the locker room has no belief
in Zach Wilson. And I played, unfortunately with a quarterback
in my career and that we felt the same way.
(20:33):
It was a young Jimmy Claus and I hate to
call his name out of Thanksgiving. He's probably just having
a great Thanksgiving, just blowing left us up. But again, just.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Wake it up on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
You know, Jimmy's good, good dude, like I just but
he was a rookie and we were with him, and
we had a decent roster and we were eight eight
the year before with injured Dieloan and Matt Moore and
you know, weed, like, you know, you're competing for playoffs
aout eight eight, right, it doesn't mean you're gonna get one.
But you know, Jimmy was drafted in the second round.
(21:06):
I don't think our head coach really wanted a quarterback
per se. He said that. John Fox said he did
never even watched Jimmy Clawson any of his college.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Film, no sign.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Well, John's also, you know, a defensive guy, and I
don't know how much he was involved in the draft.
I mean again, like this is a thing. There's a
separation of powers obviously in some organizations. Nonetheless, it was bad,
Like it just was bad, and we didn't have a
lot of faith in him because of just you know,
(21:40):
just it didn't go well. And any quarterback that wasn't
Jimmy Clawson gave us a spark because there wasn't a
guy that we had no faith in.
Speaker 6 (21:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Yeah, So to me, that's what's happening here. It's not
really about Okay, Tim Boyle is better or worse than
Zach Wilson. It said he's not Zach Wilson.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Yeah, no, it.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Shows, Brian. That shows because not only did they ben
Jack Wilson, they made him third string. He won't even
get a jersey to wear in the game. So that
shows you, in my opinion, about it's not about the
play per se. It's about the team feeling like they
(22:24):
have no chance. Went with Zach Wilson. It's someone else,
you know, it's just not Zach Wilson.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
I still keep going back to that too. Is is
it that bad what you just said right there where
he's devoted to third string, like he's not even around?
To me, was there something else that happened, you know,
behind closed doors or it just seems like something went
down beyond the play which has been bad. Don't get
(22:54):
me wrong, it's been very, very bad with Zach Wilson,
But I don't know that it's it's been that outrageously
bad where they're like, screw it, let's put in Tim.
This will what give him some hope on a Wednesday
before Black Friday, Like when does the hope go out
the window? The first quarter could very well be then,
(23:15):
you know, I don't know how much.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Is why, Which is why I don't think this helps
them win the game, But but it makes them at
least prepare for the game feeling better while doing so.
It makes the team feel like, is they prepare for
this game? We have a chance now. It terrifies me
that I saw Nate Hackett, their offense coner, and say, yeah,
(23:39):
he goes the offense. Well, I'm like, well, knowing your offense, Well,
it's not like a positive I saw something. You're like,
whoa we got we got a champion winner. Now that's
why it's it's just it's a it's a morale thing.
You remember last year Zach Wilson's he made the comment
about like, oh I it's not my fault, like there's
a lack of it feels like there's a lack of
(23:59):
account ability there which is inherent in him. And then
and when you're not wait again, when you're not winning,
I just want someone to like, you know, give me
a little hope. We played a game. We played a
game Jimmy class something I've actually got hurt. So I
don't know how much just played the role in whether
this who played for us this week? But we a
(24:20):
game where Brian Saint Pierre, oh yeah, showed up on
a Tuesday and played and played on Sunday for US
showed up on Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
The original Josh Dobbs right.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
The starting quarterback on Sunday. Unfortunately to not go quite
the same way. We're playing the Ravens. This is twenty ten,
so Ray Lewis and we they head back to back
sixes in the third quarter or fourth quarter beat us
by a lot of points. Like legit, like ray Lewis,
I put took in front the highlight. I've never seen
this before in a game I played where we had
(24:57):
a three by one set. It was first, it was first,
and right after Eddy picked us offtware touchdown, he pitched
the ball someone else. By the way, that embarrassing was
that he pitched the ball someone else and that person
ended up scoring touchdown. Wow, we come out in three
by one in the next play and ray Lewis literally
just runs the route for the for the tight end
and just stands in front of the stands in front
and picks the ball off, runs the house east easy
(25:19):
to touch on its every hour of his career. But
but I'll tell you what now, Look, this is obviously
dumb blind faith and confidence, and but like it was like, okay, guys,
Brian San Pierre's in, we have a scale back game plan.
Just give them time. We'll get guys open, we'll run
the football, we'll protect. Like there was an energy about
(25:41):
doing something just different. Yeah it was good, but like
it just wasn't what we had been doing. And that
feels with what what what this Tim boil figure. Is
it's just something that, something else, something else, something different.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
Yeah, I hear you, man, I hear you. I just
I wonder if goodness name your dolphin of choice. Is
it gonna be uh? Is it gonna be Chubb? Is
it gonna be Uh? I don't know. Jalen Ramsey who
runs the route for the receiver?
Speaker 2 (26:11):
I'll tell you what, man, it's been under talked about.
The under in this game is my my best bet
of the week.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
If you like that.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Yeah, is Jalen Ramsey? This This Dolphins defense has loud seventeen,
fourteen and thirteen since he came back in three games,
like this defense is much better obviously when you have
a player like that, But it does feel like the
Dolphins defense a little underdiscussed. We're talking about the offense.
Their defense played really well last three weeks.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Yeah, I know. And we could get into that coming
up where it's funny. It's such a long freaking season
and every year people get in the business of either
trumpeting a team or writing a team off. And there
are a lot of people who rode off the Dolphins
because they lost a couple of big games against good teams.
(26:58):
As if there's no chance that changes going forward. There's
a zero chance that changes. That's crazy to me, but
we'll get into that coming up here. We want to
hand the baton over here to our guy, Kevin wired
with us this morning. keV, what's going on man?
Speaker 6 (27:12):
Yeah, we have some updates for the NFL games for
you today. We have a triple header of action, the
first game featuring the Lions and Packers, and Green Bay
officially ruling out running back Aaron Jones for Thursday's matchup.
As for the night game, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll
saying that he expects Gino Smith to start against the
forty nine ers. He did miss most of the fourth
(27:33):
quarter against the Rams last Sunday with a shoulder injury
that he sustained on a big hit from Aaron Donald.
As for the NBA action last night, the day before Thanksgiving,
we had a big battle back et Celtics and Bucks,
with Boston winning it one nineteen one sixteen. They improved
a twelve to three on and the season. Another huge
(27:54):
matchup was in Minneapolis, the Timberwolves over the seventy six
ers one twelve to ninety nine. Although Joel mb did
not play in that game. Minnesota, though very impressive eleven
and three, seven to zero at home to begin the season.
Some games out west, the Lakers were down twenty at
the end of the third quarter. Battle Back even took
(28:14):
the lead with a little over minutes to go before
Kyrie Irving taking that lead right back on a three
point of The Lakers would turn it over and then
would have to foul again, Kyrie Irving making two free
throws to increase the lead.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
To three, where the Mavericks do win it one o
four to one oh one. Clippers beat the Spurs one
oh nine, one oh two.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
The interesting thing about that game had nothing to do
with the play on the court, but with the head
coach of the Spurs, Greg Papovichi, grabbed the microphone after
the fans were booing Kawhi Leonard telling them to stop,
imploring them to stop saying this is not who we are. Well,
the fans mooed louder, but Kawhi Leonard responded twenty six
points as the Clippers have now won three straight games.
(28:55):
Thunder over the Bowls one sixteen, one oh two. Shay
Gildes Alexander of forty points and twelve siss A goal
along with three blocks. Pelicans beat the Kings won seventeen
one to twelve behind twenty five points from Zion Williamson.
Rockets blow out the Grizzlies one eleven ninety one, Raptors
over the Pacers one thirty two to one thirty one.
He topped the Cavaliers one twenty nine two ninety six
(29:17):
Hawks with they won forty seven one forty five against
the Nets in overtime. The Nuggets fall to the Magic
won twenty four one nineteen in spite of yet another
triple double from Nikola Jokich. He had thirt thirty points,
thirteen rebounds, and twelve assists. College hoops, we had two
top ten matchups over in the Aloha State the Maui Invitational.
The championship game saw number two per Due get by
(29:41):
number four Marquette in a thrilling seventy eight to seventy
five win to claim the Maui Invitational tournament title. They
beat three top fifteen teams in three days to count Gonzaga,
Tennessee as well as Marquette. In the consolation game. Top
break Kansas sixty nine to sixty winners over Number seven
at Tennessee back you guys.

(30:22):
Bank member fd. I see you know it's interesting, Jeff.
Where Kevin was mentioning this about Greg Popovich.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
That was the oddest thing I've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
It's strange. So Kawhi Leonard, former San Antonio Spur, he's
with the Clippers. He's back in San Antonio Clippers taking
on the Spurs. The home crowd's booing. They're booing Kawhi
Leonard for obvious reasons. He had the audacity to leave.
He left them. Boh, it'll like you, Kawhi Leonard. Here's
what Greg Popovich did during the game. This is how
(30:54):
it cided on Valley Sports Southwest. Almost least, it's.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Not who we are. Knock off.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
The booing.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
Stop coming the fans to lay off Kawhi Leonard, but
that's not san Antonio. Well, I don't believe I've ever
seen that.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
I love that with Michelle Viadle at the end. I
I've never heard that before. We're talking pro sports. I
remember way back when, remember Sam Weish the over the
old head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. He grabbed the
microphone and he was like, stop throwing stuff on the field.
I've heard that before. I've never heard like, stop booing
(31:38):
this guy, please, I've never heard that before in the pros.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
It was honestly one of the honest things because I
just I don't like, is he trying to listen for
the booing? Like I don't. I guess my thing was
sort of like how did he pay attention enough to
know to go to and then want to go to
the mic and like tell people that are it's Brian.
It's very weird. I don't. I just because most coaches
(32:06):
will tell you right that they're not worried about things
like that, because it's it's a distraction, right, It's a distraction,
Like I was. I watched the video last night. I
saw I was on TikTok. I thought that was like
a preseason game. I was I was in shock.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Yeah, and that's going to lead to more booing, which
of course it did, right. Yeah, that was the funny thing.
You heard it right away. They just started booing louder listen,
knock off the boom. There's like one guy clapping like, yeah,
you tell them, Bob. Everybody else is like, boo, we
bought a ticket, boo whoever we want to. That was
(32:43):
very Philly of San Antonio last night.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
You know, no, I mean, I'm surprised that Charles Barkley
probably sayd he's surprised that they're able to do it
with with those churros around them.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
I think Pop has just reached naked gym guy status.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
He doesn't care.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
He doesn't care. Man, he he was there before. He's
even more seeper in the game right now. Right, you
go to the gym and you get done with your
workout and there's naked gym guy just air drying in
front of the world. And it's it's typically an older guy,
right who's with a lot of stress and has just
reached a point where he's like, I don't care, I
don't know any of these people. It's what I'm doing,
(33:20):
is what's happening right now. That's Greg Popovich's mentality when
he's just gonna grab the microphone and be like, cut
it out. He doesn't have any thought care, worry about
what anyone thinks of him in that moment. He's just
is what I'm gonna do. Deal with It's.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
So, it's so the naked Jim guy. Thank god I
haven't been. There's a a gym by my parents' house
in Los Angeles that's sort of like a fruit food
type place and a lot of you know, a lot
basically a lot of I think older men are to
spend their day there like that. Yeah, they just go
the spy and a nakedness and like the steamer room
and hot type is a little alarming, but yeah, that's
(34:00):
I didn't thought, you know, it's been a long time
I witnessed any of that.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Yeah, it's it's jolting, We'll put it that way, rightly.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
It's certainly jolting is a good way to put it.
It's certainly jolting. Oh Pop did the Spurs win?
Speaker 3 (34:16):
I know, and they lost. They probably covered I mean
they lost by six or seven points last night, so
they might have covered I don't.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Know Wenby, by the way, I'm my big NBA guy
the time of year. His highlights, though, are pretty awesome.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
They are, I know it right. He's a little feast
or famine right now is what a nineteen year old
rookie makes sense. But he's a lot of fun to watch.
He's great for the league. There's no doubt about that.
All right. We got a lot to do over here, Jeff.
The Thanksgiving feast has just begun. As far as this
show goes, I want to pick your brain about a
(34:52):
rule change, and it has nothing to do with the
brotherly shove that could be coming the NFL's way in
the not too distant future. We'll toss that around. I'm
Brian No, He's Jeff Schwartz. We're in for two Pros

(35:39):
I'm curious what you think about this, the hip drop tackle,
particularly in the NFL. Right, So the backdrop of this
is it happened last week. So Logan Wilson, the linebacker
for the Bengals, they're playing against Baltimore, and he tackled
Mark Andrews, the Stud Ravens tight end, and it was
(36:02):
a bad injury for Andrews. He might be out for
the season. He tore ligaments in his ankle, he cracked
his fibula. You also had Logan Wilson tackle Lamar Jackson
the same way, and Lamar was a bit nicked up
from that. Then this goes back to last playoffs, right
last postseason, this happened with Patrick Mahomes against Jacksonville. It
(36:23):
happened to Tony Pollard, the Cowboys running back against the
forty nine ers, and he was lost for that game,
suffered a significant injury. Now I bring this up because
Logan Wilson, he was defending himself this week and I
wanted you to hear this, he said. I honestly wasn't
even sure what a hip drop tackle was prior to
(36:46):
that being brought to my attention after the game. Obviously,
I guess it's something they're looking at doing, you know,
changing the rule. But it's hard in the position when
you're trying to come from behind and trying just to
find a way to bring him down. It's not like
Mark Andrews is a small human. You're just trying to
find a way to bring the guy down, and unfortunately
(37:08):
that's what happened. I'd never wish it upon him. Whatever
they decide to do with the hip drop tackle going
forward will have to adjust, but it would make it
a lot harder if that's what they decide to do.
So it's exactly what it sounds like. You're chasing someone
from behind, you maybe have them wrapped up around the waist,
(37:28):
and you're just trying to bring him to the ground
and you sink your hips and sometimes you land on
an ankle a knee. It's a dangerous play. But again,
I don't know how you're supposed to tackle in today's
day and age, Jeff if they outlawed that.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Too, So they said that this has been something that
outlawed in rugby, and I mean not the same sport,
right right, And you've outlawed a lot of other ways
for defenders to tackle. I don't know what they're supposed
to do in that situation. Logan Wilson, the Mark Andrews
wanted me to feel like, look at hip drop tackle.
He just was trying to tack. He just was trying
(38:03):
to make a play as people, you know, as he should.
He's trying to bring down. So I don't know what
these guys in the differ are supposed to do anymore.
You can't hit high, which I get if you go
too low. Now you to hip drop tackle. I mean,
it's just it's difficult. I don't know what and I
don't know how you regulated this out in real time, yeah,
(38:25):
and super slow more replays. You can obviously tell when
a guy does a quote quote hip drop tackle, but
for the most part, again in full speed, they're not
thinking about doing it this way. It happens because you're
trying to get guys on the ground, and injuries are
an unfortunate part of the game.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Now the data.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
I saw Sam Schwarztein, who works for Amazon's form Offensive
Lignment at Stanford smart guy, smart as can be. He
said that NFL has been tracking the data on this
type of hit tackle and it does cause more injury
than other tackles. But again, is it is it intentional
hip drops?
Speaker 5 (39:01):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Guys just trying to get guys. To me, you're regulating
a lot of a sort of chance here, and I
don't think you do that.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yeah, yeah, to me, it's you can't regulate all of
the violence out of a violence sport.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
That's really what it boils down to is, look, man,
there are gonna be violent collisions, there are gonna be
some injuries, and you can't outlaw well this type of
tackle and this other type of tackle. And again, you're
a defensive player. You're trying to bring Mark Andrews down.
How do you bring him down if you're trailing the
(39:39):
guy and you've got him wrapped up around the hips?
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Yes, I mean that in that situation, you just I
guess you hold on for dear life until someone else
comes to help you.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
That's all you could do.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
People, as people say that you need to you need
to get your head across and whatnot. But and I'm
with you, I'm with you on that idea. But again,
local Wilson was from behind, Mark Andrews, I don't know
what you're supposed to do. The Patrick Mahomes won, they
heard himself in the playoff game. Okay, so the defender
(40:11):
was from behind. I mean maybe maybe you make the
case that in that situation the defender was sort of
putting in a little bit extra on Mahomes, right he was,
he was sort of already tackled. And you can argue
in that situation. Again, you can argue this. I'm not like,
I don't agree with it that in that situation, let's
not follow the quarterback's legs right like he had thrown
(40:34):
the ball. There wasn't a need to do that. Let's
not do that. But that's not really an open field tackle,
right that That is just that's it. You know, in
the pocket, the ball's gone. No, the defender might not
know the ball is gone. Okay, that felt more not malicious,
not at all, but that felt more of what we're
(40:58):
trying to outlaw if we are the what Logan Wilson.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Did, right, I just think that it might look unnatural.
And there are a lot of people that thought the
ardent key tackle on Mahomes looked shady. I never thought
it was. I just think that it's part of all.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
But I'm saying, yeah, thats than this one.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
I totally hear you. I'm just trying to make the
point that what might look to viewers is like, oh, okay,
he was trying to hurt him. It's like, bro, this
is this is just what happens when you're tackling someone
from behind. It's like people act like you need to
be neo from the matrix and right, Like, when you're
(41:42):
like a big defensive lineman, you can't land on the
quarterback with your full body weight. It's easier said than
done to avoid that from happening in certain situations, right,
And I think the hip drop tackle is very similar.
I don't know how, and you're talking fractions of a second.
I don't know how you's to contort your body and
not land on anybody's ankle or knee or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
It feels very hard to be defended right now. It's
just hard, man. These rules make it hard to play
at the speak you need to play out sometimes and
then the finds are so outrageous. For some of these plays,
they are just accidents too. It's not great to be
defended right now. It's tough to right.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
It is a very tough sledding There's no doubt about that.
We got a lot to do over here. I'm Brian,
though he's Jeff Schwartz right around the corner. This is
one of the dumbest arguments you will ever hear in
your entire life. That is on the way
