Tampa Bay Buccaneers, formerly did a great job with Baker
Mayfield last year. Took over after Dave Canalis left. He
was in the running for the Jaguars head coaching job

he interviewed. Obviously, Trent Balky was still there at the
time he decided to go back to Tampa Bay and
turned down the opportunity to be Jaguars head coach.

I mean, didn't I give him an extension?
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Well, they gave They made him the highest paid reportedly
coordinator in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
And then I heard that guy walked back. Oh well
that no, they there was one of the highest paid.
But a report that came out that I was like,
oh wait, that's just an agent doing what agents do.
But anyway, go ahead.

Just the idea that he then went back to and
we speculated maybe this would happen, you know, yesterday in
talking about him walking away from it because Trent Balky
was there and then then firing Balky, does Liam cohne
go back to the table with Jacksonville. My favorite part
about all this is how Liam Cohen did in fact
go and start talking to the Jaguars again, and the

Bucks reportedly couldn't get a hold of him or his agent,
and we're trying to get a hold of him. Ghost
to the horse of the day like eventually he did
inform him and I'm gonna be taking the Jaguars job.

So the Jaguars are going to end up with Liam Cohen.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
But some people have questioned his handling of his departure
there in Tampa Bay and how he did his business
all the way out.

What does it matter? I mean, yeah, you know, the
guy's going to be a head coach, be excited about it.
The toughest thing is for Baker Mayfield. It's goody his
third offensive coordinator in three years. And I would argue
this as much as an agent is feeding these stories
to I don't care who it is, whether it's Schefter
or you know, our Jordan Schultz or whoever. You know,

it's not Liam Cohen making Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield is
now two years in a row helped guys get head
coaching jobs. He helped Dave Canalis go to the Carolina Panthers,
and he's helping Liam Cohen go to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Baker Mayfield is playing some of his best football and
because of that, it's allowing these guys to be able
to move on to become head coaches. And they're putting
(19:36):
that on their resume. Because the truth of the matter is,
it's been with them one years. It's not like those
guys have like, oh, developed and grown and helped them mature. No,
it's Baker. They've done a good job from play calling standpoint,
but Heed, he deserves a lot more credit for the
way he's played in Tampa and helping these guys then
use that to you know, springboard into a head coaching

app tinity for him. So, you know, good for these guys,
but you know, good for Baker Mayfield just in the
sense of how well he's playing right now and the
impact that has on everyone around him.

be able to turn things around in in Jacksonville? Like
they do have some decent pieces. Like I said, I'm more,
I'm more or less in question of what Trevor Lawrence

it'll be interesting to see if Liam brings in an energy,

find a way to transition into where they were when
they were in the playoffs and you know, we're in
a good space and just kind of happened to you know,
lose the game. What was that three three years ago,
three seasons ago, two three seasons ago Jacksonville, they had

the lead or were winning, or came back or ended
up losing the lead or something.

To that playoff game against the Chargers.

They came back, they came back and won, and and
that seemed to be kind of like the launch point
for this team to to go to that next level
of being good or being competitive, and they never have
been back to being that good and that competitive, and

historically going back to the you know, uh, the Keenan
mccardals and the Jimmy Smith's and and you know, the
Tony Brackens and the Market Strouds and Henderson's and Donovan
Dearie Josh Taylor gets into the Hall of Fame and
this year. But they had so much and not the Yeah,

Marie's Jones. Uh, you know, I feel like during the
Coughlin era.

quarterback situation, figured out the fact that they're not more
competitive in that division.

track record. Look at how Liam Cohan's now able to

more attractive job because Balky's gone.

they handled everything. Liam Cohane, the offensive coordinator for the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, formerly did a great job with Baker
Mayfield last year. Took over after Dave Canalis left. He
was in the running for the Jaguars head coaching job

he interviewed. Obviously, Trent Balky was still there at the
time he decided to go back to Tampa Bay and
turned down the opportunity to be Jaguars head coach.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
I mean, didn't I give him an extension?
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Well, they gave They made him the highest paid reportedly
coordinator in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
And then I heard that guy walked back. Oh well
that no, they there was one of the highest paid.
But a report that came out that I was like,
oh wait, that's just an agent doing what agents do.
But anyway, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Just the idea that he then went back to and
we speculated maybe this would happen, you know, yesterday in
talking about him walking away from it because Trent Balky
was there and then then firing Balky, does Liam cohne
go back to the table with Jacksonville. My favorite part
about all this is how Liam Cohen did in fact
go and start talking to the Jaguars again, and the

Bucks reportedly couldn't get a hold of him or his agent,
and we're trying to get a hold of him. Ghost
to the horse of the day like eventually he did
inform him and I'm gonna be taking the Jaguars job.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
So the Jaguars are going to end up with Liam Cohen.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
But some people have questioned his handling of his departure
there in Tampa Bay and how he did his business
all the way out.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
What does it matter? I mean, yeah, you know, the
guy's going to be a head coach, be excited about it.
The toughest thing is for Baker Mayfield. It's goody his
third offensive coordinator in three years. And I would argue
this as much as an agent is feeding these stories
to I don't care who it is, whether it's Schefter
or you know, our Jordan Schultz or whoever. You know,
(19:15):
it's not Liam Cohen making Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield is
now two years in a row helped guys get head
coaching jobs. He helped Dave Canalis go to the Carolina Panthers,
and he's helping Liam Cohen go to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Baker Mayfield is playing some of his best football and
because of that, it's allowing these guys to be able
to move on to become head coaches. And they're putting
(19:36):
that on their resume. Because the truth of the matter is,
it's been with them one years. It's not like those
guys have like, oh, developed and grown and helped them mature. No,
it's Baker. They've done a good job from play calling standpoint,
but Heed, he deserves a lot more credit for the
way he's played in Tampa and helping these guys then
use that to you know, springboard into a head coaching
(19:59):
app tinity for him. So, you know, good for these guys,
but you know, good for Baker Mayfield just in the
sense of how well he's playing right now and the
impact that has on everyone around him.

I wonder.

Does he have does does anyone have the chops to
be able to turn things around in in Jacksonville? Like
they do have some decent pieces. Like I said, I'm more,
I'm more or less in question of what Trevor Lawrence

is at this point.

I'm not certain he's what people may think he is
or going to be to stay him. Oh yeah, that's fine,
but I don't I don't know, you know, after Skeeter yesterday,
it put it all in.

Skeeter says, I keep trying to be a fan and
they won't let me, and.

That includes Trevor Lawrence.

So to me, it's going to it really maybe maybe
getting I mean, if you're using Bulky as the reason
why this team's woes were as big as they were,
it'll be interesting to see if Liam brings in an energy,
brings in a coaching staff, and brings in an element

of I guess belief where where this team can can
find a way to transition into where they were when
they were in the playoffs and you know, we're in
a good space and just kind of happened to you know,
lose the game. What was that three three years ago,
three seasons ago, two three seasons ago Jacksonville, they had

the lead or were winning, or came back or ended
up losing the lead or something.

To that playoff game against the Chargers.

They came back, they came back and won, and and
that seemed to be kind of like the launch point
for this team to to go to that next level
of being good or being competitive, and they never have
been back to being that good and that competitive, and
so I just wonder, and then not to mention historically

historically going back to the you know, uh, the Keenan
mccardals and the Jimmy Smith's and and you know, the
Tony Brackens and the Market Strouds and Henderson's and Donovan
Dearie Josh Taylor gets into the Hall of Fame and
this year. But they had so much and not the Yeah,

Marie's Jones. Uh, you know, I feel like during the
Coughlin era.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Matt Johns that the guy was a snowblower.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Marie, Yeah, that's actually that's actually who I said that Jones.

Wasn't it a quarterback there at.

Yeah, could get that is true. That drafted like eighteenth overall,
that's true. But they were good. They were really good
back then.

And they haven't been that dominant in a really Aaron Beasley,
don't forget about Bees.

They saw that they had the Duvall team that nearly
went to the Super Bowl, probably should have beat New England.

They just they just have not been able to figure
it out ever since. And I just don't know. It's again,
if it's been if it's being blamed on one person,
then you got to ask yourself the question, now that
one person being removed, what's your what's your excuse now,

because I'm not sure Trevor Lawrence is the guy, and
I'm gonna leave it there.

There is the fact that Jacksonville, who seemingly had the
quarterback situation, figured out the fact that they're not more
competitive in that division.

That division is completely up for graphs, it is, and
for them to be as bad as they are, Like, like,
don't we say, don't don't you speak in terms of
franchise quarterbacks.

Haven't we had this conversation franchise quarterbacks can in spite
of haven't we had that conversation? Yeah, Like, at this
point in Trevor Lawrence's career, shouldn't he be able to
post better, better seasons in spite of the things that
may be going on internally at Jacksonville Jaguars facility.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
I mean, he was hurt this year, so that there's
that element. But I understand what you're saying. There's Look,
there's there's a lot of people who I think feel
the exact same way you do. I think there's a
lot of people who are curious as to what you know,
he's he's gonna become, you know what he kind of
is as a quarterback at this point. There's a lot
of there's a lot of people who feel that way,

and they feel like, I think he's been through a
couple of coaches now, like people can blame coach Meyer,
people can can blame Doug Peterson. Now I think it's
a bit unfair because Balky's behind behind all of it.
And just look at his track record. So forget the
quarterback for a second. Look at Balkey, look at the
track record. Look at how Liam Cohan's now able to

sit there and say, well, yeah, I'll pivot now I'm
not gonna look at this job like now that's the
more attractive job because Balky's gone.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Is Balky never gonna get hired in the NFL again,
or he'll get hired.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
He's gonna he's gonna.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Figure out a way to always maintain some sort of
a career even though everybody knew and everybody knows now
cats out of the bag. It's problem. It wasn't this said.

About him before I handed up becoming the GM of
the Jaguars, Like this has been said about him before
exactly it's been said. Now, Yeah, I don't know. I
just feel like things have been said about him before. Yeah,
I mean he's still been able to climb the ladder.

I don't know. I just feel like there's a portion,
there's a segment of people that may be fans of him,
have to be because he's been hired, and there's got
to be a segment of people that clearly aren't fans
of them. And we're hearing from the people that aren't
fans of them that that you know, are talking about him.
So I don't I don't know that he's as bad

as people make the mouth to be.

I don't know. How do you keep getting jobs?

He's literally had, He's worked for like like what three
or four different organizations.

See your team, Balky, not team I'm not team any

I'm just speaking generally, generally speaking, how do you keep
getting jobs?

I mean, it is pretty incredible if you think about it.

Trent Bulky. Can I be your GM? Like, it doesn't
work that way. It's got to be something. So I
just wonder, is that is that still? Is that magic
still there for him even after some of the things
that have been said about him? Can he still kind
of revive his career? Just wonder is he as bad

because remember he basically kneecapped it was it Dave Caldwell.

then he kind of just stayed in the position.

you know, Doug Maron out of there, Urban Meyer. See yeah,
