the Jets have theirs, you know, the Jaguars have been
a bit of a circus obviously, the Cowboys and Giants,
but step right up, step right up, the Chicago Bears,
(01:21):
the clown show of the NFC North. When everybody else
is just out there winning games and going to the playoffs,
they're firing coaches. They're firing coaches after they hold press
conferences announcing they're getting ready for the next week. It's
just the whole thing's they.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Were, well, who's in charge of it all?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Well, that would be Kevin Warren.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Kevin Warren, your old buddy from the Big Ten who
took over the job. He was brought in because they
were trying to get this stadium figured out, because he
helped out with Minnesota and the Vikings getting their stadium done.
And I don't know if anybody's followed along with that,
the Bears still.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Don't have a new stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
They didn't know where they want to build it, and
rendering they did offer up had no parking lot pictured.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
So the whole thing's a disaster.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
He spoke yesterday for the first time since the firing
of Matt Eberflus and wanted to let everybody know that
Ryan Poles is going to remain the GM there and
that this is a hot commodity as far as a
coaching job goes in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Brian Poles is the general manager of the Chicago Bears,
and he will remain the general manager of the Chicago Bears.
Ryan is young, he's talented, he's bright, he's hard working.
He's done everything in his power to bring a winner
to Chicago. We will work together on a daily basis
to make sure that we bring the best person to
(02:44):
the Chicago Bears as our permanent head football coach. You
have our word on that. It will be an exhaustive search.
We are in a unique situation. This will be the
most coveted job in the National Football League this year,
and Ryan and I need to work hand in hand
together to make sure you bring that to life.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I just the most covet it.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Again, I'll repeat this, and I'll say it, and I'll
say it and I'll mean it. Skill and talent cannot
outperform dysfunction.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Oh God, can't do it.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
And if that man thinks that that's the most coveted job,
that's going to come available in the National Football League.
That's either damning to the other teams that I think
there's going to be, which some already are available. I
think he's damning to those teams, or at the end
(03:41):
of the day, that man is delusional or he's lying
and he's not delusional at all. So I don't know.
It's not good either. Whatever the option is, whichever one
you sattle low, it's not good.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
I would sart off by saying this, you have to
look at the track record because Jonas goes back to
Kevin Warren's involvement in Get in the Stadium, which you know, look,
I'm not sure how involved or not involved he was.
Obviously he was there and I'm sure he played a role.
I look at more of the Kevin Warren impact on
the Big Ten why he was there. If you recall
(04:15):
he was the commissioner during COVID, and some would say
coming from Jim Delaney who was a commissioner, who really
I don't think people will understand the impact that he
had on college sports. You know, people look at the
SEC Network, ACC Network, all these other networks. He started
(04:35):
the Big Ten network that was the first of its kind,
and he was intricately involved in building out that network,
having a vision for wanting to have a space for
their conference to be able to open up you know,
the world TV for almost all their games, all their
conference games, and the business model that goes along with that.
(04:56):
And so you had Jim Delaney, who was one of
the best missioners that any conference has ever had, who
steps down. Then's followed by Kevin Warren, who, in my opinion,
mismanaged and was not a leader during a time in
COVID to be able to put guys out there to
(05:18):
play and was more reactionary and if anything, not saying
that the Big Ten necessarily fell behind, but it was
one of the first times where you kind of thought,
oh no, this isn't good for the conference moving forward
with the current leadership that we have. There were players
protesting to play. I mean, it was all sorts of
(05:40):
things that they were frustrated by in what became a
condensed season because of his lack of leadership in a
moment where you needed the most throughout COVID. So then
you fast forward to why he steps down as the
Big Ten commissioner to take over as president of the Bears.
Jonas points out the rendering of the stadium. He was
brought into help on a site for the stadium and
(06:01):
he hasn't been able to do that, and it's been
a bit of a joke since he's been there in
that regard. Now you see the firing in that entire process.
I mean, how do you let the guy that you're
firing go and do a press conference and everything and
fire him after the fact. All right, It's just the
whole thing is incredibly mismanaged, and so now you're putting
(06:22):
them in charge of hiring the next head coach. And
one of the things that I've kind of heard through
the grape on everything else. And I do think Thomas
Graham will get a legit shot, or see if your
Thomas Brown will get a legit shot at becoming the
interim head coach to becoming the full time head coach.
But there's some other candidates that have been thrown out there,
and it doesn't seem like the focus is on meritocracy
(06:44):
and what they've accomplished as a coach. It seems like
he's got a different initiative. And that's fine if that's
his prerogative, but the problem is, like you should want
the best. If you're saying this is the best possible job,
you should want the best possible candidate. I don't know
who that is, but some of the names are throwing
out there. It's like, well, okay, well, what's the experience
of that guy in the NFL. Okay, they don't have
(07:07):
any gotcha? So I would be very concerned if I
am Jonas Knox's a Bears fan or many other Bears
fans out there, in putting someone in charge that, in
my opinion, hasn't done a great job the last couple
of stops so far in Chicago, and then obviously has
the Big Ten commissioner. As for all those Big ten
(07:28):
fans who are frustrated with the start times everything else,
who did the Big ten media RT steal Kevin Warren?
So if you got frustration about that, I'm just saying,
be careful, be careful how this whole process works out
and what happens on the back end of it, because
there's someone in charge who doesn't have a great track record.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
So he was asked yesterday Kevin Warren was about the
Mattiberflu's decision to go to the press conference. Because Levarn
and I have were on Friday, we played to open
up the show as pressor his press are talking.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
I also said that they needed to cut him. Yeah,
I said cut bait on him. But I didn't know
that I was going to be that.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Like fifteen minutes later, Breer comes on as breaking news bears,
Wait a second, we just heard from the guy, literally just.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Heard from him a bait. Well you can't. I mean,
if you want to move on from him, move on
from him.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
So Kevin Warren addressed that issue yesterday with the media
in Chicago.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
If one thing we stand for his family and integrity
and doing it the right way. In retrospect, could we
have done it better? Absolutely, And I'll be the first
one to raise my hand yes. But during his press
conference and even a couple hours later, we hadn't.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
We didn't. We had not reached a decision. And but
on the.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Flip side of it, something that was important to us
is that once we reached the decision, we wanted to
make sure to talk with Matt about that so he
could have the respect to be able to call his family.
This was the first time, and it happens around the
league a lot where a head coach will find out
he's terminated and he finds out before he's told from
(08:59):
the organization, and that's something that we promised that we
weren't going to do.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
That's cap. That's all the way cap is. I don't
know what that means. But also that's not true. One
hundred percent is not true. And by the way, everyone
knew Mattie Reflus is gonna get fired with how he
managed the Thanksgiving Day game.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Yeah, I mean, let's let's be real. No one watched
that game that was a Bears fan or even just
a football fan and watched how they mismanaged the clock
at the end of that and goes, hmm, let's give
that guy another week Like that was the nail in
the coffin no doubt, and so we have to wait,
however many days for them to make that decision. If anything,
(09:39):
he could have just said, look, we kind of had
this decision made up in our minds. We should have
communicated better to you guys, but we just don't want
to fire him over Thanksgiving, you know, we wanted to
give a little extra time with the family. But yeah,
this is was pretty much a done deal with the
way last week's game ended.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Or how about say we hadn't come to a decision yet,
and we were discussing it to come to a decision,
So we told ebra Flus to hold off on doing
like we told the press our media department, hold off
on any any pressers, like even if he wants to
do it, just hold off until we decide and then
(10:15):
we'll go from there. Like why allow the presser to
go on? Like if you're saying and oh, you're raising
your hand like in retrospect, but then you want to
double back and kind of try to justify it, like, well,
but we hadn't come We did want to protect him
and handle it like a family. And I'll be the
first one to admit that we didn't handle it like family.
But you know what, we hadn't made a decision yet,
(10:35):
So it's not like we didn't treat him like family.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
It's that we just hadn't made a decision yet.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
But that's that statement alone says you were deliberating amongst
the people that were going to make the decision before
that press conference took place.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
I've been listening to this crap for forty years, man,
and it never changes. And people can sit there and say, well,
they got rid of eberflu's problem. And we talked about
this since the they've been living on the past this
entire time. The eighty five Bears is all they've got
to hold on to, and they hold on to the Okay, yeah,
(11:12):
they had the Erlacker. Here's here's here's here's Chicago Bears football.
The last forty years since the eighty five Bears six
playoff wins. Put that in perspective.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
How many of those belonged to Lackers teams?
Speaker 4 (11:25):
A few?
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Put that into perspective.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
The Jaguars have eight in that time and they've only
been around since ninety five, so ten less years is
an organization, and they've got more playoff wins.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
This has been going on four years.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
They can spit out whatever crap they want about, well,
we're trying to do this and we mean business here
and we stop. It's the same old, same old, And
when it comes to the next coach.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
You know how this is gonna go. It's gonna go.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
This is like telegraph by the Bears. Oh we had
an offensive guy last time, Better go defensive guy. Oh
we had a defensive guy last time. Better offensive guy
instead of just hey, who's the best one for the job, Like,
who's the guy like Mike Vrabel would be a great hire?
Speaker 2 (12:08):
You think Frabel's taking that gig? And apparently coaches that
are candidates around the league saw how they handled the
firing Vibra flues and they're.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Like f that the Saints fired their coach, right, yeah, okay,
the Jets fired their coach. Yes, yep, all right. The
Chicago Bears are on that list. Giro Mayo, do ya
think he'll maintain his gig after this year? I think
he's I do. I don't think they're gonna give it.
I agree, Okay, I agree with you. Jonas agree, all right.
I got a feeling that Zach Taylor could be a casualty.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I don't I mean could I think he.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Could be a fast.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
McCarthy could be a casualty. I mean they seem to
be well, they're trying.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
He doesn't need to get fired though, because he's out
his last year.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Okay, But but it'll be a job that's open, right,
I'm not okay, Okay. The New York Giants day ball
could be am okay, Joe, you.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Don't think so. I think they do? Okay?
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (13:03):
The Las Vegas Raiders, yes, okay, yes, all right, the
Jacksonville jack Wait that nine. I'm telling you this is
going to be one of the years where there's the
most opportunities to be a head coach. Now, out of
those ones that we just named, which one would you
think is the most coveted out of all of those?
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Out of balls, I would I would go with the.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Giants, Giants or Dallas. Yeah. So if you think of
Giants as the track record of late like the one thing,
you can say whatever you want about Jerry because of
how you want she talks. He does hang with his coaches.
You know, I don't disagree.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
I would, I would, I would, I would wonder, I
would debate loosely, like loosely right now, I would it
be what would you throw the Bengals in there?
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I know, personet with right.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
But and the only reason they're saying that the most
coveted job is because what they think they have in
Caleb Williams. But if you don't, if you don't hire
the right guy next, whatever you think you have in
him is going to be stunted because you've made the
decision to go in this direction. I mean, he's less
than a year into his NFL career, and he's already
(14:18):
on his second offensive coordinator and his second.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Coach, Like, like, how does that? They like?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
That's why when they talk about well, it's the most
covetant dude, you don't even know how to fire coaches,
let alone hire firing them, right, Dang, that's why you
hear this stuff and you go. And I've also seen
the speculation out there that maybe uh, Marcus Freeman might
get a might get.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
He might get a look. Yeah, does he want to
go to the league. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Uh well, I mean, look, I have no idea. I
would assume most head coaches would one at some point
want to test the ability to go to the league.
I believe he was drafted there too, right was he?
For he at least maybe played for the Bears at
one point. But the bottom line is, here's what I'd
say to that is, of course, every head coach probably
is a competitor and wants to go to the league
(15:06):
at some point if they have the opportunity. The timing
of it seems rather perfect for an agent to want
to put that out there for leverage for an extension
to get paid more, because coming off a win versus arrival, right,
and an eleven to one season, it's obviously going to
be like the time to say, okay, let's re up
(15:26):
and we need to get paid more. And here's why,
because it's not just you know you guys who want them,
it's it's someone else too. So the reason why now
that comes out where you have this you know, two
week three week layoff before they'll play in the playoff,
is what happens if you go in the playoff and
you lose the first round, it doesn't go well. Not
as much leverage there, right, So of course this is
(15:48):
that time of year where when there's job openings and
you have the opportunity to go leverage that an agent
will throw the guy's name as part of something else
and you know there'll be some maybe mutual interest or
an interview whatever. But it helps, does it not like
this time of year, as much as we want to
act like there's a lot of coaches you get fired,
(16:10):
there's a lot of coaches you make money right now.
They don't have to do anything other than sit in
the exact same job they're at, and it's almost like
they just got a bonus because they're agents. These agents
that are out there representing these coaches, convince the presidents
of the university, the athletic directors that that coaches, he's
really he's really interested in leaving. He's going to leave
(16:32):
you guys, and you guys are gonna be stuck high
and dry and if you don't agree to this. That's
how this works. Hey. These agents try to make these
leverage plays and it's unbelievable because oftentimes the coaches aren't
going anywhere. Well there's not like maybe interest in it.
But that's how the agents play their cards this time
of year. So watch how many coaches get extensions off
(16:54):
of some of these job openings that are at the
college level and the NFL level. I'm telling you, man,
it happens every single year this time of year.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Imagine Dion Sanders, like you have the the influence of
the media because everybody you you've pretty much worked with,
all of them, a lot of them respect you. They
created that narrative that, well, why not leave with your kids?
Could you imagine like he's probably under he probably got
(17:23):
a contract extension too. They can they just redo your
contract again and be like, look, we're gonna redo your contract.
Because of course you can of course you can. Then
then there's a strong possibility they got to because if
this is that time of the year, this is the
moment in time where you're going to have those conversations
with somebody like Prime or air quotes right, if you're
his agent and talk about high and dry? What or what?
(17:47):
What college would be more high and dry? If Dion
decided to go to the league? Is there is there
a better? Is there is there a is there a
more compromise? Are he's saying, guys, the portal oh, bro oh,
that Louis Bauton luggage is out of there, dot and
the Louis coming in out of there? Who would still
(18:08):
go to Colorado if Prime left? And who would stay
if Prime left?
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Like man? And if I'm Colorado?
Speaker 4 (18:17):
What do you do?
Speaker 2 (18:18):
You got lightning in the bottle? Do you do you?
You know? Do you Jimmy Johnson it? And let him go?
Speaker 3 (18:26):
I mean, I mean, if he's serious about, you know,
wanting to continue on there, then you got to make
that work.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
How do you make that work?
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Remember when Saban's name would always get thrown out, and
when Texas's job opened up one year, there was thoughts
that hey would he take the Texas gig.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
And then Alabama came back to him and gave him
a bunch of money.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Don't you think they got to give be On a
bunch of money before it even becomes like, yeah, more
of a like it's already become more of a conversation.
Jerry Jones, I feel like cooled it down with the
way he responded to it. But let's be clear. I
just read you off about six, six or seven teams
that potentially will be looking for a head coach. I
(19:04):
just wonder how many of those, how many of those
like a notre dame like that would be a hit
if you lost, if you lost your head coach, But
be clear, that's notre dame. You you'll be able to
bring in another dope ass coach and the branded something.
Hey man, that's that's a big enough brand where you're
(19:24):
not going to get decommits. You're not You're not going
to have to fight against the things that you would
fight against if you were a program that came from
the depths of the abyss like Colorado was abysmal, and
now you have this, how much do you got to pay?
Speaker 2 (19:42):
You know, if Marcus Freeman did take the gig and
go to the Bears.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
You know, it'd be a great coach at Notre Dame, Brady,
Brady Quinn, I'll come out of retirement.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Imagine that this I don't know, I would coach at.
I would be a I would help at. This is
this is this is what Jim Jesus.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
This is what gives me right. Yes, we'd be like Doug.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
We would. You'd be making the times. You know why
I don't know?
Speaker 4 (20:17):
This why radio hosts get bad, bad reps for this
we're going I mean, we're promoting, I know, but this
is this is why radio hosts gets such bad reputations
because of crap like Jonas throws out there that aren't
even close to anything.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
All I know is every time I've done the show
from State College, it never entered it never even touched
you guys were with us. It's never even touched the
time that you see people in the building. So it'd
be like we're just getting warmed up. We're just getting
warmed up for today, because we'd be done with the
show by the time anyone and I'm talking even coaches
(20:55):
to come in.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
It's start working. We're done before they even come in.
So if I go back to work at Tea Gi Fridays,
I'll just we're.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Gonna bring you on board. What do you mean, you're
you're the host of the show. So you and Lee
could be like walking really could like, you know, monitor
the bathrooms, clean them up and stuff like that. You
can sit around and be ahead of like the media
and the show and all that stuff. Yeah, we got
keep him busy. I ain't drinking. You can't get drunk
(21:23):
like that at the college level. I got it all
mapped out. If Brady gets that job, just to just
hire me as chief of staff.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
That's that's all. I got it all mapped out. Is
that a real position there? Hell yeah it is.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
It is these days, bro, you can make up whatever
you want. You get age football program. They make up
all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Now, just take care of your boy, bro, don't forget
your boy. Don't don't get that joke.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
You know who's not going to be around Jonas?
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Why not?
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Because he'll want to be doing a solo show done radio.
He would, he would. He brings us up so he
can kick us off the show before.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
And also I'm a little bit preoccupied. Saturdays from two
to four Eastern time eleven one pm Pacific time, So
if there's a game going on at that time, I'm out.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Someone once told me that's when they like to take
a dump.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
By the way, that is that in between the time
between our show finishing and your show starting.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
I'm just saying as a I'd like to give a
credit to LeVar showed proof of his behavior in public
restrooms this weekend on the text chain.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Oh yeah, and.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Like there were no toilets heat covers to be found, none.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
On the topic. I should have brought this up, probably
in the first hour. It is my wife's birthday today,
birthday audition for public toilets.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Big birthday.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
I thought it was perfect timing. Yeah it's thirty seven.
It's not a big birthday, but it's thirty seven.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
So yeah, well, happy birthday, leash and happy birthday. Got
like about a month and a half or so, then
we'll start back to the toilet Lavore.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
I was very impressed. Thank you, I mean that thing, man,
you had that covered right. I kept figuring out how
Lee would be too lazy to do something like that.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
That's probably true.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Was probably like, man, I don't want to I don't
want to do this man.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Look at that.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
It's so neatly dotten, like yeah, oh man, all.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Right, all right. So coming up next year from the.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
We're going we're going to take a closer look ahead
to the new rankings that are coming out later tonight
in college football, and we're going to try and predict
how this whole thing goes.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
That's yours right here on FSR.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe, Fox Sports Radio,
LeVar Arrington, Brady, Jonas NOx with you here. So apparently
we could see the return of one of the all
time greats in the NFL next season. We'll get into
that for you again about fifteen minutes from now here
from the tiraq dot Com studios. But right now, it
is a Tuesday tradition here on the show, we're gonna
(24:17):
get a sneak peek into what the college football playoff
rankings could look like with another edition of this.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
Come on, you've got prims We're gonna wait till a place,
Jonna Seri.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
Okay, I've a litked distracted.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Here, all right. Starting off at number one, there'll be
no surprise. It'll be the undefeated Oregon Ducks or head
of the Big Ten Championship game to take on Penn State.
That's right, Penn State win's the tiebreaker over Indiana as
the other one lost team the Big Ten who will
go on to take on the Ducks. I've got Penn
State at three. I've got Texas still at number two.
(24:58):
They're obviously headed to the secampionship game, and Notre Dame
moves up to number four after the big win over
Southern cal sitting pretty waiting to find out when they'll
be hosting their home playoff game. I've got Georgia at five.
They're obviously going to be taken on Texas in a
rematch in this SEC Championship game, where if you'll remember
(25:19):
that Texas win is one of the best wins for
Georgia this season. In fact, if Georgia loses in the
SEC Championship game in this rematch, it's maybe one of
the reasons why they would still remain within the playoff
not hosting a game, but have to play in the
first round and go on the road. But Georgia number five,
I've got Ohio State dropping to number six. There's a
(25:42):
chance they could drop even further. I think there's a
thought that how could they possibly host a home playoff
game in the first round. They've got a couple of losses,
in particular losing to a Michigan team that, yes has
had their number, but just comparatively speaking, obviously has struggled
mightily this year. Some of the losses they've sustained. I've
got SMU at number seven. They'll be hosting Clemson for
(26:02):
the AEC Championship. The big intrigue around SMU is can
they afford a loss to Clemson? So Clemson would then
be vaulted into the College Football Playoff, But would SMU
still have a case? Here's the hard thing about that
SMU will have no ranked wins at that point in time.
They've played arguably the weakest schedule of any ACC team, really,
(26:28):
the only challenge being Duke during the course of the
regular season. So a little bit of a concern I
think if I'm at Lashley and the SMU Mustangs as
to if this is a must win for us to
be a part of the playoff. I think you don't
want to find out, you better go win the a
SEC championship. A number eight, I've got Tennessee. They're obviously
sitting pretty probably not hosting a home playoff game, but
(26:50):
they will be in the playoffs what it's all said
and done. I've got Indiana at number nine, a one
loss team that you could probably pick apart their strength
of schedules. I said a week ago, we had Joel
Klatt some others trying to pump up Indiana and their
strength of schedule. That changed obviously after their win over
Purdue and obviously some of the other teams that they
had quote quote winning I excuse me, wins against teams
(27:14):
with winning records that went to the wayside. However, Michigan
being Ohio stay was huge because that actually made their
strength of schedule look a little bit better. That's their
only win over a team with the winning record this season.
At number ten's Boise, they're hosting UNLV in a rematch
for the Mountain West Championship game. Will be there for
Fox most at seven eastern. I think on Fox Eastern time,
(27:34):
I don't have to double check on that. But the
point is Boise, with the win, not only are they in,
they're getting a bye. So kind of crazy to think
that they'll automatically vaulted into the next round. I don't
think you're going to see a Big twelve champ and
be able to leapfrog them if they lose. Obviously it
would be UNLV potentially or the winner of Tulane Army
in the AAC at number eleven Miami. They're sitting on
(27:58):
the fringe, and I think it's going to be given
their schedule or strength the schedule to see if they
end up making it in. Then you get into your
SEC teams that you got to rank them in some
sort of order. Here's mine. I've got Bama twelve, Ole
Miss at thirteen, South Carolina at fourteen, and yes I'm
using the head to head where South Carolina lost to
both Bama and Old this even though you can make
(28:19):
the case maybe they're playing the best football of anyone.
Arizona State I always stated and got them stacked at
fifteen to sixteen. They play off for the Big twelve Championship.
The winner will go to the College Football Playoff. The
loser is out Clemson at seventeen. Again, if they win
the ACC Championship, they will get in and probably bounce
out SMU BYU Illinois and then UNLV at twenty. Here's
(28:41):
the big key as we look at these rankings this weekends.
This week's rankings will give us an indication as to
what will happen to a team like SMU if they lose.
I don't think the College Football Playoff Committee is going
to put teams that aren't playing this weekend in a
position where they feel like they're in and then a
(29:02):
team that loses pushes them out after this weekend. Does
that make sense? Yeah, So when it's all said and done,
I think this will be this will be your playoff. Okay,
you have Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana from the
Big Ten. That's four Tennessee, George or excuse me, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee,
and Bama. I think they have the best resume from
(29:24):
the SEC. Those four will get in. Notre Dame's already
in the ACC champ they'll get one. The winner of
SMU and Clemson the Big Twelve champ, they'll get one.
The winner of Iowa State and Arizona State and then
finally Boise State. If Boise wins, they are in. Otherwise
you kind of start to throw it up to the
shore of maybe the AAC champ between Silant and Army
(29:47):
ends up being the higher rank to the group of
five champs because they'll get one in. But that's what
I think we're going to see from the college football
playoff when it is all said and done. As far
as your twelve teams playing off for a national champion.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Notre Dame is going to get the five Are they
going to get that five spot?
Speaker 4 (30:05):
It's it's a hard question to answer because I think
if Penn State beats Oregon, I would have a hard
time thinking that Oregon wouldn't be in the five spot.
So it kind of depends on how some of these
games play out. I mean, maybe even if Georgia beats
Texas for a second time, you look at Texas would
(30:26):
maybe fall to that five spot. But I think in
order for them to remain at that spot, they would
probably need to have an upset take place in one
of the big ten or sec.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
I mean, Notre Dame Bama in the in South Bend
would be fun, that would be.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
And there's a decent chance. I've heard that they they're
trying to look at like who's gonna be hosting these
home playoff games, and they're a little concerned obviously about
the conditions and weather. So if it ends up being
some warm weather places that are hosting, you know, whether
that's Texas or you know, whoever. You've thrown that conversation.
The hard thing is the way the rankings are stacking up,
(31:09):
It's not gonna work out that way. But I've heard
that they would like the warmer weather places to be
the night games, So hopefully the the colder places are
during the day it's a little bit warmer. Now, whether
or not that actually comes to fruition, we'll have to
wait and find out, because the College Football Playoff Committee's
hand may already be dealt and they don't have an opportunity.
(31:30):
If you've got teams like Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio
State or something like that, all three of them are
in the playoff and they all have to host. I mean,
someone's gonna get the shaft and have to be able
to host the game at night.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
So you think Indiana like they're done because of that law. No,
I think they're in the playoffs. Oh you think they
are in the playoffs? Yeah, they's a fourth team. Okay, Okay, yeah,
I got it.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
I would I would say, almost assuredly, they are in.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Okay, I got you, all right.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
I mean, listen, Shane Beemer did all he could. They
could try and campaign or South Carolina, but you know.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
I mean, here's the thing is, like I said, South
Carolina may be playing the best football of between Bama
and Old Miss. Now, I personally don't think they would
be a better team to put in the playoff. I
do think, I actually think Old Miss would be the
best team to put in the playoff. I think their
combination of what they can do defensively upfront and their offense,
(32:22):
to me, has been more consistent and better than what
we've seen from Bama. And the tough thing is, I
don't believe we've had to head between BAM and Old Miss.
Is I've been scouring these different you know, schedules, back
and forth. So at this point I'm damn near dizzy.
But the truth of the matter is Bama probably has
the best like wins, Like they beat Georgia, obviously they
(32:43):
beat South Carolina, so they've got that head to head,
But then you look at the loss to Vanderbilt and
like that's pretty ugly. You look at their loss to
Oklahoma at Oklahoma, I mean, they got blown out, and
Oklahoma's kind of a middle of the road team. So
the hard thing for Bama is like how are they
going to view them? Are they gonna view them on
their high end or on their floor where we've seen
them lose some some bad games at times this year.
(33:05):
And then you factor in a team MI like Old Miss,
who I kind of said they've they've got some good
wins when you when you crack it down again, the
beat South Carolina. So that's that's the promise. I just
I don't think the committee, because I know how much
they value had to head, I don't think they can
put South Carolina head of Bama. Oral Miss. Both teams
beat them, so it's just it's hard. But again Old
(33:25):
Miss lost LSU lost to Florida. Granted both on the road,
both went score games, and Ole Miss beat Georgia by
more than what Bama did. I mean, Bama was again
lucky to hold onto that game where Georgia started to
come back. You know, Old Miss beat Oklahoma somewhat soundly,
and that's a team that Pama lost to. So I
think it's gonna come down to Old Miss in Alabama.
(33:46):
Those that's gonna be the decision that the committee has
to make, and one of those fan base is gonna
be really upset.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
It's two Pros and a Cup of Joe. Fox Sports Radio,

You'll see today's show posted right after we get off
the air. So, Jeff Olbrick, the head coach of the
New York Jets, did announce that Aaron Rodgers would remain
the starting quarterback at Miami this upcoming weekend. At this point,
(35:00):
I don't know why you would bench him, Like, I like,
what's you know, what's the harm? Just let him go
out there and you know, keep slinging it into it happens.
But Bill Belichick was on the Let's Go podcast and
apparently he's a little bit more optimistic about the future
of one Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 7 (35:16):
He could easily rebound from that and be ready to
play and have a good year next year. And you
look at all the quarterbacks in the league that are
kind of on their second teams and they're doing pretty well.
Russell Wilson and Geno Smith and Darnold Baker Mayfield. You
go right down the line Stafford for that matter, Jared Goff,
You know, these guys have switch teams, they get in
a different system, so little things are a little bit different
(35:37):
for him. Maybe they learned some things from you know, whatever,
whatever it was, the previous experiences were. It just it changes.
So when you when a guy has a long career
and a good career, uh, sometimes one season is just
a bump in the road. It's not necessarily the end
of the road.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
See, So why don't you apologize the bar like now's
the time, like just get it off your chest. Yeah,
in a shovel dirt on Aaron Rodgers' career. And Bill
never made it about Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
You made well, here's the question. Here's the question. Is
he in New York next year? If he's playing that
next that next season, Yeah, just not with the Jets.
And so I just asked, if he's in New York
next year, So where's he gonna be the Giants?
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Yeah, okay, let me ask you guys this. And I
don't buy that. By the way, he won't be with
the Giants because he's not. You don't think Belichick. No,
they're not going to New York with the Giants. I mean, well,
so my question was going to be, is that him
bidding for the Jets job?
Speaker 2 (36:35):
No Belichick to the Jets.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
No hates Woody. They hate each other.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yeah, hate him.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
I mean, arch nemesis have been known to come together
to defend against another common common factor of a of
a arch nemesis.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
He became the Patriots coach because of what I mean,
Superman and Batman came together. He took the Patriots job
because of Woody Johnson.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
I'm just saying, you know, you just ever know man
him even saying that to me, that's like you putting
the fieller out there, like, can we can we make
that work?
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Why not?
Speaker 1 (37:10):
I don't know. I mean, I was I was asking.
I'm just saying, it's just my interpretation of it.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
You didn't you remember the body bag Johnson earlier this
year on Monday Night Football.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
I listen, I get it.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
But sometimes the best form of flattery is to just
s all on somebody and then at the end of
the day come back and make up.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Okay, I know what's happening here. I got it. What's happening?
Speaker 6 (37:32):
What?
Speaker 4 (37:33):
What is it? You're trying to preach something to Lee here?
Speaker 3 (37:36):
You know, this is LeVar kind of you know, slowly
putting it out there that he wants to get rid
of us and pair up with Ross Tucker.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
That's what this is, is what? Yeah, that's that's all this is.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
How did you pull that one?
Speaker 3 (37:48):
Because I can feel you trying to steer us into
this direction. You know, our rivals become you know, friends
and begin working together.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Well, May and Ross Tucker have never been art rivals.
I think Ross is a fine young man. I just
think he's a tad bit off on building his brand,
on talking about moments that that he feels he recollects
very clearly. And you know, for me, like like I
don't know, shouts out to Ross Tucker. But he's not
(38:18):
He's not an arch nemesis.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
I can't wait for Super Bowl this year just for
this exact comba to come back up. It's the gift
that keeps on goods. I mean, I don't unders never disappointed.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
I mean, Q, why does he always bring up this
like imaginary?
Speaker 4 (38:30):
I don't know what you both do. It's not just
on you do. It's not me.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Did Jonas not just bring this up?
Speaker 4 (38:37):
He did?
Speaker 1 (38:37):
But you know, well, you don't have er you know what, then,
I'm going to say nothing. I'm not going to entertain it.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
How I am not saying it. Lord save me from
these fix sixes.
