Speaker 2 (01:10):
Top of your screen. So this song gets you fired up,
all right?

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Bar Yeah, there's another one that gets me fired up too,
especially now yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, yeah, I think I know what song that is.
Yeah yeah, I'm going to go see a game. Yeah
oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Maybe more than one. Oh, I might stand on the sideline.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yeah, where I've never seen the entry? Come on, I've
never seen it in person.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Come on, where.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I heard is one of the most exciting entries into
the gradium. Wow, need more heart, just got more exciting.
I'll tell you that, just got more exciting. Here we go,
here we go, and here come You're fighting gobblers. Oh

(02:26):
oh wait, wait wait, I mean huh that's right. Here
she comes all over the halkies.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Virginia Tech has got their man, James Franklin. Yeah, upgrading
from hold on now hold on?

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Oh sorry, I mean it is kind of I mean,
nothing against my guy because he was the man. But man,
he got that job because of his job at State.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
So he was owed forty nine million dollars in the
buyout after Penn State fired him, but as part of
his deal with Virginia Tech, ESPN reported he's getting a
nine million dollar settlement from Penn State. James Franklin hired
by Virginia Tech. The quote, I'm honored and humbled to
join the hockey family. My vision is simple to restore

(03:16):
unmatched excellence, to build something that lasts, and to serve
this university, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and our amazing fan
base with honor, integrity, and passion. I look forward to
getting to work with our players, our staff, and the
entire Virginia Tech community. James Franklin has found a home again. Congrets, yeah, congrets.
What are they in the ACC?

Speaker 5 (03:38):
They're in the ACCA.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
ACC should be on notice, man, the Big East.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
I think, yeah, they should. It's wild to think how
this program, how good it was. I mean, like when
we were coming up. Man, I don't know if you
felt this way too, back when they're in the Big East.
This was I mean, Frank Beemer job. He did the
special teams, like the whole thing. Even when I was,

(04:05):
you know, coming when I was in you know, in
high school and college, like this was one of the
powerhouses that this was a team that won double digit
games year and year out. Yeah, So it's it's just
it's weird. Now there's been a generation because probably since
Beamer left, and maybe even at the end of Beamer's tenure,
there really hasn't been a guy to bring in that

(04:26):
run of success like they've experienced under Frank Beemer. And
I think James Franklin, Franklin could get him back to
that like as far as if he can take him
altimately to the promised Land. It seems like an uphill battle.
But again we uh, you never know. I mean, we
got a lot of a lot of different schools that
haven't been in the mix are now in the mix

(04:47):
for college football. So it's it's it's fun to see
the parody.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
He is in the heart of a heart.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
What is it called a a hot bed is what
I'm looking for of talent the Tidewater area of Virginia,
like the Norfolk area, Hampton, Hampton Roads, Richmond, the more
centralized part of Virginia, you know, with the Huguenots and

(05:19):
shouts out to my man, coach Charles h Charles, let
me let me tell you something.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
The amount of talent that that.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Circulates from the Baltimore corridor of Delaware to all the
way down into North Carolina. Those are the places that
James Franklin has thrived in and recruiting the hell out
of players. Not to mention his ability to be able
to get that one or two four star hot you know,

(05:52):
high rated guy from different areas around the country. You
know some parts of California, you know parts of Florida,
you know parts of Texas, or even some places down
in the deeper South like Alabama or certain places like that.
He's going to be a problem for He's going to

(06:12):
be a problem, I'll tell you that. And he's going
to bring in athletes because that's what he does. He's
going to have probably to Q's point, it's going to
be easier to get to Blacksburg. There's I think the
recruiting for him will be a lot more centralized and

(06:36):
easier than what it probably was for him in state
college at Penn State.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
So I think, I mean, it's a great get. It is.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I mean, if I'm Virginia Tech, I am crazy a
static that I was able to get a coach of
his caliber to come in this day and age to
come to our school and coach. I would have thought
he might have held out and for maybe a bigger
job opening to come before before making that decision or

(07:05):
going to Virginia Tech. But I mean, if you look
at it from a very critical perspective, I can't even
imagine how many guys are probably gonna end up leaving
Penn State to go to Virginia Tech. There may be
some guys that are at other schools that may end
up leaving there that were recruited by James Franklin before
may not be in the happiest the situations, are going

(07:27):
to go to Virginia Tech. He's going to ramp up
pretty quickly. I would be I would be shocked if
he did not ramp up very quickly as soon as
he gets in there and the transfer portal opens.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
So a few thoughts from my side on this thing
with James Franklin. You know, he he struggled to win
those big AP rank games, and what's interesting about that
is a lot of those games came down to tight,
you know, fourth quarter end of game scenarios or situations,

(08:05):
and I always thought he didn't manage it overly. Well,
I feel like you're gonna be plunting a lot of
tight games at Virginia Tech every single week. And if
that's the case, it's a little bit of a concern.
Like I, I know, James Franklin can recruit. He's a
good man, he's a good guy good coach. That is
the one thing that I kind of look at as

(08:26):
a bit of a flaw from his time at Penn
State that I do wonder how that will play out
at Virginia Tech. I also I'm wondering this. I mean,
he recruited really well at Penn State. I do think
he'll be able to recruit well or at least better
than what they've had at Virginia Tech. But in a
day and age where you're everyone's kind of getting paid,
you know, you have to wonder what the collective situation

(08:49):
looks like at Virginia Tech, what additional funds they have
that gives them an advantage over other teams in the ACC.
I do think he's got to strike fast. I mean,
this is an aec that Scott Florida State down, Miami's up.
But when you look at the programs that you're in
competition with, I think you can you can compete if

(09:10):
you just handle that local area kind of like you're
talking about right, Like they don't. He doesn't need to
really go outside of Virginia or the DMV like that
that area of the country to be able to field
a team and be really successful. Like I also think
this probably hurts teams like Maryland. Oh yeah, like like
like Mike Loxley has his work cut out from now
because he's got another coach in there who knows how
to recruit the area and gonna make it even harder

(09:32):
for you know, those sort of mid tier, bottom tier,
you know, Big ten conference teams that are trying to
you know, find some of his recruits Rutgers, et cetera.
So there's there's that element of the conversation. I'm gonna
throw this question out there, and I need Jonas to
respond first, because you're too close to the situation LeVar,

(09:54):
and I don't know what if you can, But the
question is, are you surprised Jonah that in Virginia Tech
has found their new head coach in James Franklin before
Penn State found their next head coach Given that, they
kind of obviously made the decision, and it felt like
when they made the decision to fire James Franklin, they

(10:16):
probably had a singular person in mind. It wasn't just like, hey,
let's move on and start anew. Yes.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Yeah, I would have thought that given given the job
and given the unmet expectations and the buyout and I
would have assumed you made a move with the understanding
you at least had a pretty good idea who would
be the next guy in the door. And here we are.

(10:46):
Who's to say they don't why is he hired now?

Speaker 2 (10:52):
I mean there might be a valid reason as to
why he's not hired.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
Now, what would be the valid reason?

Speaker 1 (10:57):
I would most likely say the valid reason would be
to get through the season. That that would be. That
would be my valid reason. Like you're you're now hitting down.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
You're narrowing your pool to coaches who are still coaching.
I don't.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
All I'm saying is.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
You allow for Terry Smith to have the opportunity to
finish out the year with a level of.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Buy in from.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
And and an opportunity for the players to not feel
like something is getting brought their way.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Why didn't they just let James Franklin finish out the year?
Then it's a great question.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
I think I had the answer to it, But I
don't know that I had the answer to it. And
I don't want to misrepresent myself. Why not in the scenario?
So that's his show is all about we missrepresentation.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
He doesn't want to allow it to saything. I feel
like I can openly say stuff because I'm not a
part of YER. I don't I would not describe their
coaching search as one that had a singular person in mind,
or that in one individual in mind. Maybe they had,
you know, a few people on a short list, but
from what I have been able to ascertain, they have

(12:18):
casted a wider net than I thought following James Franklin's firing,
given some of the conversations that have been had with
prospective candidates, I'll leave at that.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Okay, Yeah, I mean, I mean, and I've talked with.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Two Okay, I feel good about what you throw out there.
I mean, that's that's good perspective.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Well, but I also think things got probably complicated for
a lot of potential candidates when Florida came open. Then
LSU and it's like this whole thing hit. And by
the way, what I find most interesting about the timing
of when firings have taken place this season is October
seventh was like a line of demarcation where if you

(13:10):
made it past that date, you were now under a
different rule. Your players could not transfer immediately. That's how
it worked before October seventh, That's why Oklahoma State had
a bunch of players who went to the transfer portal
because they were grandfather claused into the old rule. And
the old rule was if once your coach was fired,

(13:32):
a thirty day window opened up for any player to
basically leave and enter the transfer portal and go elsewhere. So,
for example, there is a son to someone who works
on the crew of Big Noon Kickoff and he was
grandfather claused into that. So you know, we were kind
of talking about this and he's going through his different visits.

(13:53):
If it was after October seventh, you can't leave. You
either have to wait for the next transfer portal window
or they have to hire the next head coach. And
so now that for example, in the case of Virginia Tech, players,
now that the decision has been made to hire James Franklin,
there will be a fifteen day period where James Franklin

(14:14):
can go in there, he can meet with all the players,
talk to all the players. After that fifteen day period,
there's a five day window where those players can choose
to transfer, hit the transfer portal and go elsewhere. So
the reason why I said that is because I do
think that some teams have been more patient in firing
their head coach, and I also think there's been a

(14:38):
little more hesitancy or maybe patients in hiring the next
guy because they want to make feel like they sure
they've got the right guy. But also they have a
lot of things that are all in the works, that
are together, so when he gets there, he can kind
of hit the ground running a bit with at least
retaining some of the players that are on the ross
they want to retain. Is that the fairest way of

(15:00):
putting it.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
It's a great way of putting it. It's a good way,
great way, strong way.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Yeah, there's there's something, there's validity to that. I just
I think you mentioned you hit it when you said
want to be thorough and in the approach, you don't
want to leave any stones unturned, and you want to
make the best decision that you can possibly make and
be proud about it.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
I think Pat Craft is very very aware of the
fact that he was not on the.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
Clock with James Franklin. How real was the Matt rule.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
Interest? Q?

Speaker 2 (15:39):
I'm asking me. I was making a point. You want
to ask me about Matt rule. Matt Rule got an
extension that note Nebraska. I don't know anything about Matt
Rule coming to Penn State.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
I would I would say this, it was real enough
where he got an extension at Nebraska. I mean, it's
not like I could sit here and say, hey, hey,
Penn State's looking at me. Guys in Fox Sports Radio
comes and gets me an extension writer or or you know,
gives you a pay bump. There's there's other coaches who
I would say him specifically, you.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Could go with maybe you could throw one more out there,
got an extension, you can throw one more and and
and for what it's worth. I mean you could possibly
be like, huh, what what was going on on? You know,
Notre Dame. Maybe Notre Dame might have not wanted there guy,
and maybe he might have become a possibility.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
You just never know.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
You just never know because this landscape just you don't
know what's going to happen if they win in pit
or if they they don't win in pitt. You know,
with the game they have, I mean, what is that,
What type of bearing does that have? You don't you
just don't know. You don't know what directions some universities
may go in and then somebody comes available that maybe

(16:53):
might have not have game available that that maybe you
were interested in, maybe you weren't, who knows, But I
mean the season, the season kind of unfolds in a
way where it could give you options that you might
have not even previously had.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
I think, what's gonna be fascinating. We haven't mentioned Lane
Kevin's name yet, and it's worth mentioning because Ole Miss
has given him a deadline. They obviously have the Mississippi
state game, the Egg Bowl, coming up, which is you know,
they're in state robbery. It's one of the biggest games
on the calendar every single year. But I do think

(17:30):
there's a sense of frustration from some folks in Oxford,
and they're probably not wanting to admit this publicly. But
if you're Lane Kiffin and you ultimately want to be
back in Old Miss, you probably already signed the extension
by now, right absolutely so if you look at Florida,
who's courting him, lsu who rumored to have sent a

(17:51):
private jet to Oxford, Mississippi and set it back to
Baton Rouge so his family could go check out his family,
go check out Baton Rouge and see what it's like.
Now I'm hearing that he's gonna end up in Florida,
that it's basically all but a done deal. There's some familiarity,
there's some desire to be in that in Gainesville. We

(18:15):
will see if that comes to fruition, but it does.
You know, look at leaves open an Old miss job,
Like You've got a lot of guys or coaches who
I think are looking saying I'm gonna stay put, to
keep doing what I'm doing even though there's things going on.
Because if Eli Drinkwitz leaves Missouri, that job comes open,
and he's built a nice foundation. If Kevin leaves Old
miss again, same thing. Things are built up for that

(18:38):
next guy with a fan base that's probably pretty ticked
off that he left and wants to replace him with
someone that's going to be able to do what he did,
if not better. So you start looking at the I
don't say the snowball effect or however you want to
describe it, as this thing builds momentum with more and
more coaches who are leaving one place get hired by

(18:58):
the other that are currently coaching somewhere, it's going to
be wild. Like the month of December is going to
be wild. It's getting to the point where now I
would say, we look at the end of the NFL
season with some of the firings and the hirings that come,
you know, come with that, this is like bigger, faster, crazier,

(19:19):
and I just I feel like I'm excited for it.
I mean I shouldn't, because you know, some guys have
gotten fired, but there would be a great opportunity, but
a lot of shifting in college football.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
The Florida job better than that, Let's use job. Do
you think.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
They're different? I mean, if you look at Florida institutionally,
it's a hard question to answer because I would have said,
I would say LSU is a better job as of
late because their prior head coaches, with the exception of
Brian Kelly, have won national championships. You know ed or
Jaron Les Miles, Nick Saban, they all were able to win.

(19:56):
There's a hotbed of you know, as you heard Lvar say,
there's a hotbed of talent right there. You recruit the state,
you recruit the surrounding states. You don't need much else.
So and by the way, that that was a state
and that was a program that was all in alignment.
I don't know that you could say that about Florida.
Florida from the time urban Meyer left until you know

(20:18):
where they're at now, has this not been able to
find a way of aligning everything together. And maybe this
is that moment, or maybe they can find the head
coach who can do that. But that I think again
hotbed of talent. It's easy to recruit there in Florida.
They have resources too, and you know a little bit

(20:39):
no stadium tax, which plays a small role in all
of that. But I think it's a better job for
the next incoming head coach purely because of what the
governor did. And this is also something that I heard
from some sources of some candidates who are looking at
that situation. They were very put off by. This has

(21:03):
become political, This has become messy. It doesn't feel like
how it did when you know, Nick saban Less Miles.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
At o'gon was that was gonna be my next question.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Because of the way the Brian Kelly stuff went on,
it looks like it's a bit of a mess, like
there's a little.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
And even trying to recoop and even trying to recoup on,
you know, all the you know, like Tom Marris, who's
one of the better legal minds, gave his opinion on
LSU trying to claw back a portion of Brian Kelly's
severance from the university, which you know, they they tried

(21:39):
to say they didn't fire him, like after he got fired,
they tried to be like, no, we didn't fire yet,
and they're trying to maybe settle for less than the
fifty four million he's owed and use cause. And Tom
mars again, who's who's one of the better legal legal minds,
basically said like this is like never happened and and
and to me, it looks really bad on LSU to

(22:02):
make the decision that you're going to fire a head
coach and you know you have that buyout, but then
not have the money to pay the buyout. It's like,
all right, man, like you're making this place look like
a mess. And the next head coach is looking at saying, well, clearly,
if you don't have money to buy him out, you
probably don't have money to play anything. Yeah, to pay
me slash, to pay my coaches that recruits like everything

(22:24):
we need.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
Yeah, it is two pros and a cup of Joe.
Here on Fox Sports Radio, brought to you by the
Home Depot. The Home Depot Maqita tools are built for
the pros who show up early with tools built to
last job after job, year after year. When the job
calls for the best call on Makita available at the
Home Depot, How pros get more done up. Next, we're
going to try and figure out how somebody is going
to get away with a I don't know, a punishable

(22:48):
act in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
That will be yours right here on FSR.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Be sure to catch.

Speaker 6 (22:52):
Live editions of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe
with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and Jonas Knox weekdays at
six am three am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 7 (23:06):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
To and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
Yeah, you blubber list lame.

Speaker 7 (23:28):
And me well, you know what it's called over promise.
You should be good at it because you've been over
promising women for years.

Speaker 8 (23:33):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Well, if you don't get enough.

Speaker 7 (23:48):
Covino and Rich, make sure you check out over Promised
and also uncensored by the way, so maybe we'll go
at it even a little harder. It's gonna be the
best after show podcast of all time.

Speaker 8 (23:57):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Cadino and
Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Someone take us away from Jonas saying man playlist every month, Let's.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Play dogball with Little Coop. Let's play dodgeball with little Coop.

Speaker 9 (24:17):
Grab Little Coop, Grab Little Coop, Grab Little Coop, grab
a little Coop grab.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Throw them over here me next, bring them right over here.

Speaker 9 (24:27):
Come on, grab them, throw them, throw it too.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
Yeah, definitely Russian Roulette every day your men's sport.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
I love when Coop sings along.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
It is the funnest thing.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Yeah, come on, Coop, come.

Speaker 9 (24:43):
On, Yeah, come on, Coop. Turn up, Coop, turn up Coop.
Oh yeah, come on, Coop.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Shut It is two pros and a cup of Joe
Fox Sports Radio, LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with
you here. By the way, that's gonna sound epic on
the podcast if people can't hear the music and they
just hear Coop singing system of a down. So I'm
trying to figure out how this is gonna work for
a certain somebody in the NFL, which we're going to

(25:24):
get into coming up here in just a couple of
moments from now.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
But I know this is gonna work.

Speaker 4 (25:27):
If you go to check out our brand new YouTube
channel for the show again, that's two Pros FSR. If
you've listened earlier, we've been promoting that throughout the past
few weeks, so be sure to hit the subscribe button.
Don't stop there, hit the thumbs up icon. Coming away,
let us know who on the show you agree with,
who you think is completely wrong. But check out our
new channel on YouTube. Begin just search two pros FSR
and subscribe. So Jamar Chase was suspended a game. We

(25:50):
figured that was going to be the case for spinning on. Yeah,
for spinning on Jalen Ramsey. You figured out he's probably
gonna go there and he was gonna be fun. It's
suspended for it, he was.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
What's interesting is that he's going to appeal it, and
I'm trying to figure out what's his argument. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (26:13):
Just like that Seinfeld episode with Kramer and the spit,
I think he blames like Keith and Anders or something
from spitting on him and it like, I don't know,
it went through him. He like, no, no, like it curved.
He was trying to say that it happened and it
curved and hit him. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Wow, Well maybe, I mean, what do you maybe it
was sweat? What do you say that it was sweat?

Speaker 5 (26:39):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (26:39):
From you know, what you.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
Could say is that he didn't spit. You know, sometimes
when guys are they're getting pretty worked up and they've
got a lot of spit kind of like they they're talking,
but yeah, but it comes out.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, I gotta tell you It's one of the worst
things ever when somebody is a spitter when they talk
and they get all up in your face and they're like, hey, hey, Brady, Hey,
you remember that one time at one play You're like, God.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
Is it raining day?

Speaker 4 (27:12):
Say it?

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Don't spray it. I want the news, not your weather.
God Lee showers its sunny day to day? Said nothing
about showers.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
You're stupid man, A No, I just want to know.
I just want to know how he's gonna, you know,
try and argue his point.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
He get a lesser fine or something like that, or
a lesser of a penalty, like Okay, it happened, But
I didn't really mean to spit. That's why I didn't
think I spit. I was talking. Spit came out of
my mouth while I was talking.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Trash.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Trash talking is like you said, I mean, sometimes spit
comes out your mouth. I think the damning part of
it is when you put in slow mo, it's it's
like it's a it's a like he built.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
That one up. Yeah, that was one projectile.

Speaker 5 (28:05):
Yeah, like he.

Speaker 1 (28:08):
You know, he seemed like he might have log eate it.
You know, it's possibility, but I would think he's not
going for innocence. He's just going for a lesser penalty.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
I would assume now there was three people that were
going to possibly hear this appeal, either going to be
Derek Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson. Last I saw
Jordy Nelson was going to be the guy, so receiver.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
Maybe maybe some favoritism there, No.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
No, no, they do their jobs, man, They like they
move like machines. Them dudes, they're not I mean, they
understand it from a player's perspective, but they're doing their
just I mean, Derek Brooks, you know, uh, everybody's favorite uncle. Well,
he overturned the one game suspension for Frankie Luvu, who got.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
A should have been it should have been overturned. Yeah,
I think there wasn't a hip little linebacker favoritism there
on that one. All right, So Jordan's expertise.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
You know, you know what's wild about the hip drop.
By the way, we had a tackle in the game
this past weekend, and the only reason it wasn't a
hip drop is because of how the ball carrier fell
like it had all the elements of what would normally
be a hip drop. The defender grabbed the ball carrier

(29:30):
from really like the back of him, and as he
grabbed him and tried to slow him down, he swung
his body and again how they landed was the only
reason it wasn't because he didn't land on the back
of his legs and it wasn't considered a hip drop.
I just I feel like that that rule is so
hard to actually officiate because it's almost retroactic, like you

(29:51):
almost have to it's reactive to a player getting injured
for the way in which that guy's tackled. That looks
like a hip drop.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
You might as well at target to that too. I mean, honestly,
I've seen more plays where I thought it was targeting
that wasn't targeting. I've seen more plays where I thought
a call would have been made on targeting that hasn't
taken place. And I mean I've seen it's just a
lot of targeting from ball carriers and defenders. You can't

(30:23):
call you can't call fouls every play, but you can
call a foul every play. That is, to me the
great conundrum of all of this. You can call a
foul every play. You can call a fifteen yard or
you can call a spot foul. You can call any
type of foul, holding, you can call roughing, roughing the
past or a lot of times like there are plays

(30:47):
that can every single time and every game that you
can call a foul. So when you get into calling
a foul, you can't call a foul at the end
of the game when it's going to cost the team
to get especially when it looked the way that it
looked in that one game in particular, what game was

(31:08):
that was that Philly Detroit? Yeah, Sunday night. Yeah, like
that's wild. But again, I don't know. I don't envy
referees because they have a job to do and they
will always be wrong to one group of people, always
will be wrong.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
They'll come out on the right side of it.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Even if you say, well it wasn't egregious, maybe maybe
it shouldn't have been, but it went in our favor, soay, hey,
no worries. It's always going to be the other side always,
and that's a referee is never going to come out
clean in the game.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Ever.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
You're never going to have a clean game where you
don't say the referees had some type of part in
the game.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
It's part of it.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
It's an age old conversation, and I find it interesting
because we.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
All ways go for it, we always.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
Talk about it.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Now in this case in particular, it's very cut and
dry or very wet and wet. He's spent, and maybe
he's trying to get a lesser of a penalty, you know,
because that that could be a very very like costly,
a very expensive suspension, and I think that's what he's

(32:23):
more focused on. You're not trying to get out of
the way of it being spit. The best thing you
could do with Jordie is saying, look, it did come out,
but this is what was happening, this is why it
came out, and.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Is this is this fine?

Speaker 1 (32:40):
Really like, Okay, you're suspending me a game, okay, but
are you suspending me without pay? Are you suspending me
and it's a fine of what on top of that?
I don't know if that was released or not what
the penalty is, but I would assume that's what.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
He's just gonna miss a game check and I think
it's just an five hundred grand.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
That's worth, that's worth, that's worth appealing, But you're not
going to win. What's what? What's the argument he's spit
on the guy. You can clearly see it. He might
have any argument.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
He didn't the.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Leak he didn't. It wasn't he didn't drool. It wasn't
a drool. He spit on him. And I guess he's
got this thing too. I mean it was a hawk to.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
It was.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
She would be proud. It definitely was a hawk to.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
But I saw that that too, and reading about it,
they were saying that Jamar Chase has got this move
as well. To remember when the thing was snatching chains
where somebody was that two burdens the.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Weather channel. So Jamar Chase has this thing. You remember
when it was snatching the chain off somebody that was
so apparently his thing is he rips mouth Is that
a key to leave that did that? Yeah, Jamar Chase's
thing is he rips mouthpieces off like he did that.

Speaker 5 (34:07):
To help me understand what is with the double mouthpiece deal?
I see now like high school kids, college kids, they'll
have one dangling from their face mask. Ye, then they
have one that's put into the top of their helmet
and it's like flop, It's flopping around. I'm like, why
is this? Why is this dude to have a just

(34:27):
a random mouthpieces like a hood ornament, swag on the
top of his helmet, swagie sweat.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
Different, Bro, these dudes are different so much.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
These I can't, I don't. Okay, They're touched, bro. That's
the only way to explain it. It's the only way
you can make sense of it. They touched like the
whole pool, the whole pool in their pants all the
way up like some guys receivers used to do it
back in the day because you didn't have to cover
your knees when I play. Now you gotta cover them

(34:59):
now somewhat. But now you don't have to cover them now.
I guess they've been really relaxed on on rules of
how you wear your uniform. That's a real deal, bro,
And I just you know, to me, these guys have
been as creative as they possibly can. The jewelry has

(35:21):
gotten like insanely pronounced. I mean, you turn around, everybody's
got a chain that's that's on during the game. I
tried wearing ear rings one time and they were real
and two and a half car diamonds that were screw
INDs came out. They came out. Never did it again.

(35:42):
I was like this is. I took my helmet off,
my ear ring was missing. I was like, this is
the dumbest thing I've ever done in my life. Dumb,
super dumb. Now I start thinking, maybe I need to
get me a metal detector and just walk this this.
Maybe somebody does walk that field with a metal detector.
I mean, the amount of money that they would find
in that field would be crazy. In the practice field alone.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
To get one of those old perverts who's walking on
the beach.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Yeah, yeah, but he's really looking at Yeah, it's a
good move.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
I mean it's an age old move.

Speaker 5 (36:13):
You would say that given out cheap you are, well,
you actually might find yeah, and he might actually find like,
you know, some change or you know whatever else.

Speaker 9 (36:21):
That's hey, Papa, what did you find, Papa, gold son gold.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Uh, something worth more than pesos. I don't understand your
your hate, your hatred towards your kid. There's no hatred
towards my kid. I just wanted to know that there's
you know, there's values, those there's levels of currency.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
And you know, if you bring a metal detector out
on the beach and you're looking at ass and you
find a couple of bucks, everybody goes home happy.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
Question is if some way, somehow your metal detector gets
close to one of them those those things you were
talking about, does the metal detector go off? I mean
if it, that's a whole another that would be called
that'd be called uh the pins.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Yeah, sure was. You'd be making sure your your butt
health is good. It would be pretty spicy, oh for sure.
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
And speaking of pretty spicy, I got to tell you something,
uh about it. It's Louisiana hot sauce that that Jonas
is talking about. Well, and if you want that peppery
pepper taste, you want to taste it really good. Get
some original Louisiana Hot sauce and you know what, it'll

(37:32):
hit a tailgate food part or the party of the
food hit it very nicely. It'll be great. It's hand crafted.
The flavor is amazing. Make sure you get original Louisiana
hot sauce. That's Louisiana hot. Make sure you buy you something.

Speaker 4 (37:45):

You don't touch a dude's like workspace. Man, I got
you all right, man, don't let that happen again.

Speaker 6 (38:33):
Bro.

Speaker 2 (38:34):

(39:02):
So you guys, remember a few weeks back when the
Jets were getting ready to name Tyrod Taylor is the
new starting quarterback because of Justin field struggles, Woody Johnson
aired out Justin Fields publicly, and then they went out
and they won that game against the awful Cincinnati defense
and it turned out well, the reason they didn't go
to Tyrod Taylor's because Tyrod Taylor was actually injured, so

(39:25):
they couldn't go to Tyrod Taylor. Well, better late than ever,
Tyrod Taylor is your new starting.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Quarterback in New York for the Jets. So that's going
to It's going to.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Him.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
That's a I don't know. There's a lot of bad
football in that building between the Jets.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
I think the tough part is and again, it's not
your money, so what do you care. Justin Fields was
given a two year, forty million dollar contract, thirty million
which was guaranteed. Go for him if you feel like
they're moving on from him after this season or if
he's not the long term. Answer kind of feels like

(40:08):
you threw thirty million down the drain. But I will
say this in defense of Justin fields. This is just
not an environment conducive of a quarterback continuing to grow.
You know, he hasn't played a ton of football in
his career. I think he's now, he's getting to the
point now where you have a pretty good idea of
what he is right after playing for Chicago and Pittsburgh

(40:32):
and the Jets. But it's sad because there's elements of
his game that, like, it's hard to develop when you're
learning new systems, new offenses. That's what he had in Chicago,
Pittsburgh and the Jets, and I don't know he's ever
gonna get that chance. So it feels like they threw
thirty million dollars down the drain.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
They didn't throw it down the drain. They threw it
into his bank account.

Speaker 10 (40:52):
Than that that drain led to a bank account. Yeah,
it's definitely got to be a rap for him. I mean,
unless something like the Sam Darnold phenomenon takes place with
him where he has the opportunity to go play for
somebody who can actually coach.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
And I mean even then, damn, he's not the offensive coordinator.
He's a defensive guy. I just you know, it's a
bad situation. But hey, He did get thirty million as
a door prize. You know that's fine, A parting gift,

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
