way to lose money in Las Vegas over the next

(00:43):
few days as he is there as he was last year,
to gamble on all of the games. That is. That
is an experience I want to have someday, not gambling necessarily,
but just being there to watch that circus in Las Vegas.
So I'm sure he's gonna have a good time. I'm in.
I'm the executive producer of this program, Jason Martin. By
the way, Danny g is still employed at least as
of right now, in the wake of spider Gate. I'm

(01:05):
sure we will talk more about Arachnegate later on in
the program. I am joined by former NFL offensive lineman
Jeff Schwartz, who played for five teams during his illustrious career,
all of them have made splashes during NFL free agency,
another big topic we'll talk about today. He played for
the Giants, the Panthers, the chiefs of the Vikings, also
was with the Detroit for a short time. Uh. Condolences

(01:28):
to everyone out there, all of the supervisors who are
going to have a little bit of a thin crew
when it comes to work today, and condolences to those
families that are gonna be dealing with quote illnesses over
the next few days of people that are not gonna
be able to make it into work. The n C
Double A Tournament truly begins today, games tipping here and

(01:51):
just about seven hours from right now, there's gonna be
obviously four games kicking things off, and a ton of
games to watch today, and everybody's rackets are gonna be
good for I don't know, three four hours somewhere around
five o'clock. If you look at Twitter, you're gonna see
people talking about how the brackets are busting, emojis of
crying smiley faces or former smiley faces everywhere, because this

(02:14):
tournament is not just wide open, it's gonna be completely unpredictable.
Quite frankly. I looked at my bracket last night, which
I finally put together for everybody's got a bracket pool, well,
we've got one fox internally as well, and you look
at everything that's going on, and I felt like I
didn't have enough upsets. So I feel like I'm probably
gonna get crushed because who knows what's gonna happen in

(02:38):
this tournament. It makes it super exciting, and at the
same time, you don't know if you're gonna get to
the elite eight in the final four, and maybe there's
one one seed left or maybe there's no one seeds
left somehow, and then you don't have the powers that
you want in the final four. This next few days
is when you want to see the upsets. Then you
kind of want things to start a sort of settle down,

(03:01):
or maybe you don't, I don't know. I'm gonna go
ahead and throw the phone number out early today. You
can call in all day with these thoughts at eight
seven seven nine nine six six three six nine at
eight seven, seven nine nine on Fox. There are a
few questions, uh, that I would suggest are out there
that I would want you to answer. If you're calling

(03:21):
this program today, what is your final four? Who is
your national champion? And what is your biggest upset? Today?
Will ask the same question tomorrow about tomorrow's games. But
who do you have in your bracket getting knocked out
today that no one would expect. The game starts again
at twelve fifteen pm Eastern time. Oklahoma Trey Young makes

(03:45):
it into the tournament as a ten seed against Rhode Island.
Right State against Tennessee Rick Barnes, who is known for
not being able to get out of the first weekend
of many n C Double A tournaments. We'll see what
he can do this year. U NC Greensboro and gonzag
h and the number one seed Kansas against who five
thirty eight and just about everybody says is the best

(04:06):
and most talented sixteen seed ever in Penn The Quakers
against the Jayhawks, So we'll see how that plays out. Jeff,
this is the tournament and we've got free agency. This
is an embarrassment of riches in terms of what we
have to speak about on this show today. Sometimes, especially
this time of year, or at least a few weeks ago,

(04:27):
you're sort of scrambling around trying to figure out exactly
what you're gonna talk about. How best to fill the time,
how best to fill this three hours for the outcat
audience Today, it's simple. You talk about the n C
Double A tournament, you talk about free agency. You don't
overthink this thing. Yeah, you mean like July when we're
talking about a Lonzo ball for five days in a row.
That's right, That's right. It's a little different. Um, yeah,

(04:51):
we've got the tournament today. Obviously, obviously I've been I've
been really focused on NFL free agency, which, um, this
legal negotiation period used to be just be what that was.
Now everyone just signs the first the first opportunity they can,
which was basically on Saturday at noon they started signing.
But yeah, the the tournament. I think you're right. I
The upsets are fun to watch early on, but when

(05:13):
we get to the Sweet sixteen, the lead eight, the
final four. We do want to watch the best teams play,
and I do think there's a lot of opportunities for
upsets today. Uh. There's a lot of UH teams that
have close to chance for upset. You know, the Pen
Kansas thing is interesting. Pen didn't even win the IVY
League and they are only underdogs by fourteen a half points,

(05:35):
which is really low for one against a sixteen seed.
I don't think that Kansas loses that game, but it
could be maybe closer than we think. It's pretty surprising
that people are saying, well, this could be an upset.
Pen didn't win their their own conference, so I don't
know if that's quite gonna be an upset um like
people think. But look Loyal over Miami's one that people

(05:55):
are talking about. Um, there's another. There's um youd Dakota
State in South Dakota State in Ohio State is another
pretty trendy upset pick today. Those are both the the
Kentucky game you're talking about with Davids, and those are
both five twelve matchups. Yeah. Then there's there's the Saneo
State over Houston. You mentioned that as the eleven over
the six. I I took all the elevens um put

(06:19):
some money on all them on the money line to win,
so if like two of them win, I make money.
So I'm hoping that two of these eleven over sixes
can win those four those matchups. By the way, you
you if you went to Vegas and sat in the sports.
When I did this three weekends ago, when nothing was happening,
there was just regular college basketball, some horse racing. My
goal was not to gamble on much of anything because

(06:41):
I was not prepared. I didn't study any of these
college basketball games. I didn't study uh NBA games. You're
sitting in there and it's like so intoxicating the gambling
you have to be didn't betting in like ten games,
and I luckily won seven of them. But um, you
would go and gamble. It's a lot of fun to
just sit there all day. I'm sure the books will
be packed and start early and the start to nine

(07:01):
how to Vegas. Yeah, Um, I'm sure you would go.
I know, I know you're a conservative guy, but you
would go, and I think you would gamble on some games.
I mean the thing about it's not like I don't
have like a moral issue necessarily with gambling. It's more
so I don't have the disposable income to gamble comfortably.
Like if I was rich, I would just have some
fun and gamble. I wouldn't gamble necessarily to win a

(07:23):
bunch of money. I would gamble just to have a
little bit of fun with it. I don't really have
an addictive personality, so I wouldn't be fearful in that way.
But yeah, you're probably right. Like if I was there,
I'd probably throw a little bit of money down on
a few games here and there and and try to
make it a little bit more exciting. But actually, it's
funny you mentioned all those eleven seeds. I picked every
one of them to win. I just looked at the
bracket as you were saying that. I picked every single

(07:45):
one of those elevens to beat those six seeds. And
then I have a couple of twelves beating fives. I
may have. Let me take a look real quick. I
think I've got three of the four twelve seeds beating fives,
which is probably not going to happen, honestly. And then
you get to the final four, and I do have
some blue bloods. I think my lowest seed is a five. Um, yeah,

(08:09):
mine is two, and I've got them in a championship
game because of Aten And honestly, I heard I heard
j Billis say this, and I don't really disagree. I
haven't gotten to watch that much of Arizona this year,
but going back and kind of paying attention to what
Deantre Ayton has done, this is the comparison is being
made to Danny Manning and what the Kansas Jayhawks were
able to do in as a six seed, beating Oklahoma,

(08:32):
beating Billy Tubbs in the National Championship game, pretty much
climbing on Danny Manning's back and letting him lead them
because no one could stop him during that tournament is
one of the greatest performances we've ever seen in an
n C Double A tournament, And honestly, at my age
and eighty eight, I think it was I was eleven.
The first Final four that I remember was the Keith

(08:53):
Smart shot for Indiana that beat Ronnie Cycle in Syracuse
in seven, which was just kind of like a game
and winner that that I will never forget. And in
was the first full game that I remember, that Kansas
Oklahoma game. My dad and I don't know if your
dad did this or not, but my dad recorded a
lot of sports on VHS tapes growing up, and that
was one game that he recorded that I watched at

(09:17):
least a hundred times. I would put it on while
I was doing homework or while I was playing with
toys or whatever it was that was going on. I
recreated that game in my driveway. That game, the Duke
U and LV game in UH Championship game which featured
Chris Webber's famous time out with Michigan and North Carolina two,

(09:38):
which was Duke winning the championship, and of course later
you're hitting the shot against Kentucky. A great final four there,
and even better Final four and nine. There are games
this is just sort of weird because this tournament makes
legends or memorable stars out of people that you otherwise
would not know anything about. There's no event quite like

(09:58):
this in sports where you can point back to all
these plays made by people that you should not know
who we are, but we'll never forget. For example, Bryce
Drew at Valparaiso and what he was able to do.
Tias Edney of U c l A In going coast
to coast to stay alive and then they end up
winning the national championship game. Wan Dixon for Maryland the

(10:21):
year that they won the championship over Indiana with that
walkoff shot against UNC Wilmington's where he took the three
and then just walked into the tunnel and disappeared because
he knew that thing was down. There are any number
of instances like this, like you have great plays in
the NFL and things that you're certainly not going to
forget David Tyree and some of those kinds of things.
But the n C Double A Tournament is unique in

(10:44):
that guys that you will potentially never hear from again
in basketball unless they're in coaching or something like that
years down the road. You're not going to forget what
they're gonna do, especially over the next two days, but
some over the next four days. No, and that's true.
I think I think Aten has a chance to do that.
He put up thirty two and thirty two the last

(11:06):
two games the packed All term, he put up thirty
two and eighteen. He shot I believe I looked at
it was. He shot from the field close seventy five
percent from the field the last two games. J Billis
said he was a potential future Hall of Famer, has
fall of same talent. Uh last night uh that he
was compared to David Robinson by another analyst's Yeah, I mean,

(11:29):
so we we have Danny Manning. Um, he's got a
lot to live up to. And I think, you know,
I think for Arizona to I think that well, obviously
Virginia missing their best player is going to help them
in that bracket because they could run up against them
in the in the sweet sixteen. I believe ye sweet sixteen.
I believe. Um. You know what what helps them and
is all this outside noise, the n C double A investigation, uh,

(11:53):
the FBI investigation. I think that helps them. I think
that makes them hunker down and makes them, um, play
for each other and it's a rallying cry. We We've
seen New England Patriots all the time use all these motivations, uh,
these outside forces that are against them to motivate them
to win football games. I think I saw something. They've
won seventeen or eighteen games where they've had what they

(12:16):
called like motivation games where they've been disrespected or there's
been a story about them this year, the story that
Belichick doesn't like Craft and Craft doesn't like Belichick and
force them to make a trade. They came out and
just won all these football games afterwards. Um. I think
that Arizona has that feel to them of a team
that feels slighted for getting a four seed. And they
were the lowest four seed and they were the sixteenth teams,

(12:38):
so they're the lowest four seed. Um, even though they
had a good season, they expected to be higher. They
have all this outside noise surrounding them, and they have
a player in Aiden who might be the most talented
playing in the tournament. So I think that they're they're
a dark horse to make the final four. I picked
them to make the final four, especially with Virginia missing
their best player. UM. Look, the Pack twelve has not

(12:58):
had a good start to the turn and so far
they're they're over to UM. But I think Arizona can
can be the savior for the Pac twelve. Yeah. I agree.
I think that Arizona is more of a two seed
than they are a four seed. They definitely should have
been a three seed in this tournament. What is is
this the n C double as nightmare a Michigan State
Arizona final with both of those teams embroiled in questions, UH,

(13:23):
that they've had to deal with surrounding this college basketball scandal.
If we come to the final game and we've got
the three seed Michigan State from the right side of
the bracket, and we've got Arizona coming from the left
side of the bracket, and that becomes one of the
storylines first into the Final four and then certainly into
Monday Night, I don't think Turner will cover it quite honestly.

(13:43):
I mean maybe we will UM in the public, but
they're gonna ignore that. They will not talk about any
of this on TV. I promise you that they don't
want to bring this up. They don't want people to
think about this as they as they watch these games. UM.
As our for our job, I think we do you
talk about it? You know? I I do stuff at
night Unpacked twelve Radio and serious and you know it's asked, well, UM,

(14:06):
if Arizona keeps winning, does this define their season? And
does it get the pressure away or or the talk
away from the NT double A and the FB invest
I say no. I think actually the more they win,
the more scrutiny they will be put on what what
has been said about if Aton was paid, did Tehn
Miller have A have A have a partner in this?
I think there'll be more scrutiny towards that from US.

(14:28):
I don't think that they'll cover it on Turner because
that's not really They don't get into that very often.
And maybe Charles Barkley will talk about it because he
talks about anything, But in general, I don't think they'll
cover it on the telecast. I don't think they'll cover
on the pregame, the post game. I think they just
want to focus on the basketball and let the investigation
run its course. And you know that. I think I
think that Anti Double A and the fb I won't

(14:51):
announce anything happening during the tournament because that would be
obviously a blow to the Anti Double A tournament. They
announced more news from these investigations, Yeah, I I tend
to agree with you there. And if a Turner is
gonna do anything, I just pray they don't have a
live audience for it. After watching selection Sunday, I did
not see that, but I heard it was brutal. Oh

(15:12):
you didn't watch it at all Sunday? No, I was,
I was. I was busy Sunday did not watch. Okay,
well that's good. That's that's good for you because at
least you you're kind of still a virgin in this case,
like you still have your innocence after watching that on Sunday.
Oh man, they overthought this thing so badly. They do

(15:32):
so much right at Turner. I don't know how they
got this thing so wrong. And Ernie Johnson, who I
respect about as much as anybody in all of sports media,
trying to defend it. I was just like, oh, e J,
don't die on this hill, brother, do not die on
this hill. This price is right. That we had to
watch for two hours where we didn't know one game
for twenty three minutes is completely and totally unacceptable. All right,

(15:57):
let's take our first break at six three x nine.
If you want to join us again, what is your
final four? Who is your national champion? What is your
biggest upset coming today in the bracket, And we'll ask
the same question about tomorrow's games. We want to focus
more on the Thursday matchups at least now. And another
question for you that we'll talk about on the other side,

(16:18):
and of course a ton of NFL free agency to
speak about on this show. As well, including I want
to get Jeff's thoughts on Joe Thomas's career as somebody
who played on the offensive line and as long as
Joe Thomas was able to play, unfortunately almost all of
it in futility for the Cleveland Browns. But what an
unbelievable career that he had, and sure looks like he's
got a bright future in media. But here's the question

(16:40):
about the tournament. How important when you're picking these brackets
year after year do you just look at the coach
and say, all right, I buy into that coach in
the tournament, I'm gonna pick them to go ahead. And
I'm talking about your i os or your Stewski's or
some of those guys that tend to or John b
Line for example at Michigan, who often has really good tournaments.
And then on the other side, guys like Sean Miller

(17:03):
or Rick Barnes, or guys that have never really been
able to get it done, or even a Bill self,
who I think should have won more championships at Kansas
than he has. He said some weird losses in the
tournament and some heartbreaking losses as well, how much do
you pay attention to that we will discuss next. This
is our coverage with j Martin jeff In for Clay Travis.
Some Fox Sports radio car shopping can be confusing with

(17:25):
terms like dealer, price, list, price, and invoice. True Car
shows you what other people pay for the car you want,
so you can recognize a good price when you're ready
to buy a newer used car. Visit True Car to
enjoy a more confident car buying experience. Also, we care
about you out there. I want to let you know
that trains are large. You saw what trains did to

(17:46):
Marty McFly and Doc Brown's DeLorean and Back to the
Future three. You can imagine what it would do to
you if it struck you. It's real simple. If you
think of trains gonna stop if it sees your car
on the tracks, You're right. It will about a mile
after it hit you stop. Trains can't. Clay's back on Monday.
He's in Vegas dropping a whole lot of money on
the n C Double A Tournament. I'm sure that is fun.

(18:07):
Follow him on Twitter at Clay Travis will have all
of his bad beats and well, actually he probably won't
talk a lot about his bad beats. He we'll talk
about the things that he does correctly. So I'm in
for him. I'm his executive producer, Jason Martin at j
mardol Kick on Twitter, joined by NFL offensive line veteran
Jeff Schwartz at g E O f F Sports If
you want to follow him on the tweets, Jeff, trains
are big. That's sort of the point that I wanted

(18:29):
to make their in that announcement. Trains are not going
to stop if unless they hit you, and then you're
going to only slow them down, so you probably want
to get out of the way. I was so happy
when Clay started reading the train adds again, and it
really makes my day driving down the street listening to
a to a train ad. It's really it's it's the people.

(18:51):
I just I'm I guess I didn't know this was
a national epidemic that trains are hitting people that stop
on the train tracks. I thought that was something that
was was eradicated, but I guess it's not. I don't
know if people are being tied down to them, if
we're talking about damsel in distress situations, or if there's
just people that are walking on train tracks and see
trains are like the train will stop and then it

(19:13):
just runs them over. But don't be one of those people.
And as Clay always says, if you are getting hit
by trains, or if you know someone that's been hit
by a train, might be an ESPN radio listener. I
had to go ahead and get that one out at
least one time. Again, what's your final four, who's your
national champion? And what's your biggest upset? In today's matchups

(19:33):
will go to the crew out in l A. Justin
already told me he didn't fill out a bracket and
may not do it. He's not a big college basketball guy,
so that's all right. But I told him to try
and come up with least with the final four and
and maybe a couple of other things that are going on.
So we'll hear from Coop. I know Danny feverishly pulling
out his bracket to talk about that as well. And
I'm sure, Jeff, you assume you've put a bracket together.

(19:55):
You're working for the Pack twelve network, so I assume
that that's part of the gig that you at least
have some on a bracket. Plus you live in a
state of North Carolina. I grew up in North Carolina.
If you don't have a bracket and you live in
North Carolina, I'm not sure that you're allowed to vote
or stay in the state afterwards. I know it might
not be quite as deep as it used to be
when Wake Forest had Tim Duncan and Randolph Children's and
Rodney Rogers and all those guys in NC state with

(20:17):
Courtianni and Rodney Monroe, and obviously Carolina and Duke are
always there. But it's still a big deal on Tobacco Road,
is it not. You'd be happy that my Final four
is actually, uh my actually championship game as UNC VERSU Duke,
So you'd be happy about that. That's a true Charlotte
Tonian right there. Yeah, that's not biased at all. I
tried to get there. I have both of them in

(20:39):
the final four as a matter of fact that I
have no idea. I like you and I like U
n C. So I was a kid because of Jordan's
Like it's really what playt zipp like. I just liked
their colors. I've always liked them, so I picked them
to win the championship. Yeah. I've kind of gone up
and downs with both those teams. Living in the state
and living in living in Virginia, my dad was you know,

(21:00):
he had he didn't have season tickets, but we went
to a lot of Virginia games growing up. That was
his team, that was his friends. Teams went to more
football than basketball. But you know, we saw John Karatey,
and we saw Curtis Staples and Bryant Stiff and a
lot of those guys. So I grew up a Cavs fan,
and that means Carolina was the enemy. So I thought
Carolina was basically the evil Empire for the longest time.

(21:21):
Then I moved to North Carolina and you know, started
to kind of see a different light. Wanted to attend
school there, ended up going to NC State instead, and
so it sort of shifted around. So I kind of
watched those teams with a lot of interest, and I
watched Virginia, and honestly, Virginia would have been my pick
to win at all had it not been for their
sixth man going down for the entire tournament the week of.

(21:42):
That's a team that needs all the athleticism and all
the offense that it can get, and it just lost
the most athletic player that it had. It lost another
one of its great defenders, and I just feel like
somebody's gonna be able to knock them off by putting
up sixty points on a day when they're not able
to score as much as I'd like. The problem the
problem with Virginia. With Virginia, I can never pick a

(22:03):
team that just plays defense. Looking happened? You know? U
CEL with with Ben Hallen, tried that for many years.
We got to the final four twice, they got to
the championship game. But then you run up against a
team that can score and play defense, that can do both.
Because typically if you get to the championship game or
the final four, you can do both. That's how you
get there, um, and that's how you win championships, being
able to score and play defense. And u C would

(22:26):
run up against teams that could do both and they
couldn't contend. And now you run up against Virginia, who
plays Look, they played great defense. Tony Bennett, he did
the same thing at Washington State and washed him do
it for many years. That won three one um and
it's I don't like watching it because it slows the
games terribly. It's not a fun game to watch, and
they win ugly now they wouldn't They win games is
obviously important to do, and they were one seed because

(22:48):
they won a lot of games, But I don't think
that carries over in a tournament when they're all it's
it's six one game seasons. Essentially, you can have a
bad night shooting, a team can get hot, and you're
out that quickly because you have nothing to fall back
on if all you do is play defense. You know,
if you're behind by fifteen points, how do you make
it back? You just have to try to stop the

(23:08):
other team, Like you can't generate enough offense to make
up the difference. So I've never been a big fan
of Virginia. I've never picked them to go far in
any tournament since Bennett's been there. Um in this tournament,
like I said, I haven't losing Arizona because Arizona is
just more athletic, Like you can zone eight and to death.
But they have other guys on Arizona they can score
as well. So that's why I like Arizona um to

(23:31):
go and beat Virginia. But I just the pace of
play for Virginia just drives me insane. Yeah there, I mean,
the comparison is bo Ryan and those Wisconsin teams that
we watched year after year after year, and honestly, a
lot of Big Ten basketball during the regular season. Maybe
not this year, but in previous years we've seen those
games where first of forty five might actually win it.

(23:54):
And that's not the most exciting brand of basketball to watch.
This Virginia team is an above average offensive team, especial
compared to what Tony Bennett has ad in the past.
But you lose a guy as talented as who they've lost,
I don't see him getting by Arizona. And again, Aton
is going to demand a double and in some cases
a triple team. That's how talented that dude is. Like
how fast he is. He's a shooter with touch. He

(24:17):
obviously can score around the rim. I'm fascinated to watch
how deeply they can go. And this was a question
I asked before we went to break and we'll bringing
Eddie Garcia and then we will answer it or continue
to talk about it. And that is coaches in this
tournament and what they mean to you as opposed to
just the players on the floor. DeAndre Ayton in a bottle, Yeah,

(24:38):
that guy's an absolute stud. But Sean Miller has had
a lot of really talented Arizona teams and really hasn't
been able to do a whole lot with them, and
it's taken some flak. It's arguable that his brother has
done better as a coach in the n C Double
A Tournament then has he. Bill self has had his
struggles in the tournament. Rick Barnes couldn't get out of
the first weekend with Kevin Durant when he was it

(25:00):
at Texas, and now he comes up with a three
seed Tennessee that looks on paper like a really good
basketball team. But I said on Twitter about a week ago,
I thought the whole season that I didn't care how
good Tennessee was. I wouldn't pick him to get out
of the first weekend because of Rick Bards. Although I
had changed that. When I looked at the bracket, I
was like, I don't see how they're gonna lose. I
know some people are trying to pick right state, but

(25:22):
I'm not there. Let's go and bring in Eddie Garcia
quickly and see what happened last night in the world
of sports, and then we will continue down this pathway.
Eddie take it away, all right, guys, let's just start
first with signings in the NFL and quarterbacks specifically. We'll
start with A. J. McCarron getting a two year deal
with the Buffalo Bills. Uh the free agent quarterback formerly
with the Cincinnati Bengals minnicineaf. He's looking to get a

(25:43):
backup for soon to be signed a quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Are quarterly finalizing a trade with the never Broncos to
acquire Trevor Simeon. And there's when the Cardinals signing quarterback
Mike Glenn into a two year, eight million dollar deal
after he was released by the Chicago Bears. In the
Insidably Men's Basketball Tournament, we had the final two play
in games. In a battle of elevens seeds, Syracuse beat
Arizona State six to fifty six. The Orange advanced to

(26:04):
face six seeded TCU, and in a battle of sixteen seeds,
Texas Southern beat North Carolina Central sixty four to forty six.
The Tigers advanced to Bay's top seed at Xavier. In
the NBA game, the night was in Boston, where the
Wizards in double overtime edge of the Celtics one four
and the Warriors without Steph Curry, Clay Thompson or Draymond

(26:24):
Green in the lineup still be the Lakers one seventeen
to one oh six or support is brought to you
by True Car. I'mline car shopping can be confusing, but
I mean more. With true prize from True Car, now
you can know the exact price shall pay for your
next car. So as a True Car and enjoying more
confident card by experience. And guys, you're talking college basketball now.
Memphis did not make the Incidable Tournament, but they have
decided to make a coaching change despite a twenty one

(26:45):
and thirteen season. Tubby Smith is out and it looks
like Anthony Penny Hardaway will be in as I'm sure
you guys probably at least Jay Mark you probably know
be there in Tennessee. Uh. Penny Hardaway now a hotshot
high school basketball coach there in the state of Tennis
obviously in a lum uh and start with the Memphis
Tigers back in the day. And I gotta assume they
feel like with his relationships with high school players, he'll

(27:07):
be able to recruit some big time high school athletes
to Memphis. And he's not hired yet, but it's all
but all but a done deal according to sources. Appreciate it, Eddie,
before you step away from the microphone. Do you have
a Final four or a national champion or an upset
or anything you can give us. How how are you
watching these games today? Who do you have pegged into
your bracket? I'm still in the process of filling out

(27:28):
my bracket. I got time lagging a little bit, but
I can't wait to wake up with the overnight shift
that I have around one o'clock and just flip on
the tube and see what did I miss and just
watch the tournament for the rest of the day. Alright,
good deal Penny Hardaway going to Memphis, if indeed that happens.
There's also a lot of speculation that Larry Brown would

(27:48):
be there to help him as well, which would be
a huge deal. But no question, Penny Hardaway can bring
in a lot of recruits. That was one of the
big problems for Tubby Smith. Even with twenty one wins,
he could not recruit locally in Memphis, and there is
a lot of basketball talent in that particular part of
the state that we've seen kind of go elsewhere over
the last few years. So Tubby just looks like maybe

(28:10):
his message has has worn off in eighteen maybe not
just at Memphis, but across the college basketball landscape. We're

(28:51):
joined by NFL offensive line veteran Jeff Schwartz. He's down
in Charlotte, which is a great place to be when
it comes to the n C Double A tournament with
Carolina and Duke probably in a lot of people's brackets.
Deep into this tournament, if not into the championship game,
we will kind of start talking more about our own
brackets as we continue. If you want to talk about
your own bracket eight seven seven nine nine six six

(29:13):
three six nine, that's eight seven, seven nine nine on Fox.
I'm gonna go ahead and tell you today's to day
to talk about your brackets, because what I don't want
tomorrow is to go to I don't know Ryan and Dayton,
and Ryan's like had that upset in that twelve five
game yesterday. Nobody cares. Ryan and Dayton. Don't call me.
Ryan and Dayton, don't call and tell me that. If

(29:33):
you want to talk about your upsets, today is the day.
What's your final four? Who's your national champion? What is
your upset pick? Today? In today's matchups will ask the
same question about tomorrow. I think we've got Jared in
Kansas City on the line. Let's go to him quickly. Jared,
how are you hey? I am good? Best best times
a year right now is uh. I'll tell you what

(29:58):
I think you better watch out for the Kansas Jayhawks.
They look great in the Big twelfth Tournament. And I mean,
without you. Duck has a book at I mean they
say he's coming back. He kept played today. But hopefully
we set them out so he can get extra days

(30:19):
west so his he's feeling a little better and then
having back to North Carolina State or Seaton Hall on Saturday.
But watch after the Jayhawks. I think they're gonna make
him run. I have been when in most of my brackets,
I did a couple, and I have been playing North
Carolina Kentucky in the championship game. But all right, and

(30:45):
I think, uh so, there's gonna be some upsets. Watch
out for Kentucky and of the teams like that. All right,
appreciate it. Jared, Well, you can't say look for some
upsets and then watch out for Kentucky today because that
would mean Kentucky against beat But he also had Kentucky
and most of his brackets in the championship game against Kansas.

(31:06):
Kansas is not really going out on a limb unless
you believe the Bill self is not a particularly good
tournament coach, which honestly is not a bad position to take.
This is not one of Kansas's most talented teams. Davante
Graham is a hell of a player, but they don't
have the depth that they usually have. They also, I
don't think have the size that they're known for having
as well. This Kansas team does not stand out to me,

(31:27):
which probably means they win at all. Last year I
got burned by picking Kansas. I'm never gonna do it again.
And it was sort of a a sour note for
Bill self with me, Bill Self, Sean Miller, Rick Barnes,
these kind of guys, Jeff, when you're filling out a bracket,
do you pay attention or think about the coaches and
how much futility they have seen in this tournament in

(31:48):
years past and try to use that to inform you
when other things are sort of equal. Yes, And and
a good example of this, as you said, as with
Steve Alford. Alford has been to three UH sweet six
teams with u C l A the previous three years
and has not been passed the Sweet sixteen. He was
at New Mexico. They made the tournament almost every year

(32:08):
and had had high seas and didn't win anything because
the IOWA. Same thing happened. And this year that you know,
they lose the same Bonaventure on Tuesday night in the
playing game. And I do think that that this time
of year coaching does matter. Um, you have to prepare
quicker than usual. You're playing in you know, teams that
you haven't played before, you're playing in UH and traveling
to sites you might have not been before. UM. And

(32:31):
if you looked, routinely, the same team's win and with
different players. So what's the constant. The constant is the
head coach. Routinely the same coaches continue to not live
up to expectations. And that's on the coach. And you
know some of these on the players, right, I mean,
you recruit the players, you you put together a game plan.
Do I think U. C. L A. The other night
was not prepared to play same Bonaventure. No, but they

(32:55):
turn the ball over twenty times. Their best big man
of six ten, Same Bonaventure's best big man, tallest big
man at six six, and he had two points. Like
that's that's Is that on the coach of the player?
I think it's on both because routinely Steve Alford's teams
don't don't do well in the tournament, and that ultimately
falls down the coach when you have so much player
turnover every year. And so yes, I think that if

(33:16):
you look at when things are equal, I would choose
the better coach. Just like I mean, in most sports, right,
Like who would choose? Um? Who would who would routinely
choose a worst coach over Belichick? No one does, right,
Everyone chooses the Patriots until proven otherwise. And um, I
think that that this also applies to college basketball. I
think you agree with me on that. Oh yeah, absolutely

(33:37):
couldn't agree with you more. And honestly, Tony Bennett kind
of falls into that case as well. In certain respects,
he's gone a little bit deeper. But Virginia has been
a one line before and not been able to get
the job done. And when you look at that, plus
the injury, that's why I have Arizona beating them, whereas
I might not have had that had it not been
for the injury. But Tony Bennett always scares me. Plus,
because of the way Virginia plays, they don't often low

(34:00):
people out, So if they find themselves in a bunch
of close games in this tournament, all it takes is
one bad shooting day or one day where somebody is
able to shoot over the top of that zone and
make a few extra three pointers. In Virginia is going
home eight seven, seven, three six nine. If you want
to join this program, we will continue to talk about
the tournament, and we're gonna shift gears, and we're gonna
talk a lot of NFL free agency, especially in the

(34:22):
next hour. All of these quarterback moves. The Bills, I
don't know if I would say have their guy, but
they have a guy that they paid money to yesterday
because they did not want to get shut out of
the quarterback sweepstakes. So we'll discuss that. We'll talk about
all of the big moves, the ones that are still
yet to come. Big show stick with us. I'll kick
the coverage Fox Sports Radio. So I'll kick the coverage

(34:43):

on Twitter coop out in l A along with Danny
G who I don't know if he's out of the
penalty box yet or not. Danny, how do you feel
twenty four hours after you tried to perpetrate the largest
fraud in the history of this radio program by editing

(35:27):
audio that any number of people easily went to the
podcast found sent it to us on Twitter. I had
people emailing me the audio as if I couldn't cut
it myself to let me know what was going on.
That was a bold play by you, the idea that
you would have said a tabby As soon as I
heard a Tabby, like, what's funny about it is Clay

(35:48):
didn't even realize that cooping me laughing. Clay was talking
about you getting the factor. I was like, no, he
edited the audio full, like listen to what you just said.
I mean, I purpose Slee said something ridiculous, which is
why I threw the Tabby line in there. Um No,
I was funny. It was funny. It was fun to
see all the responses on Twitter, and then as we

(36:10):
check the data on the OutKick the Coverage podcast, hopefully
that show two days ago will be one of the
most downloaded in the history of the program. I bet
you it doesn't beat opaque gay because I don't know
that anything could, but it might. I'm curious to see
those numbers as well. We had a lot of people
sending some interesting punishments. In One was somebody called in

(36:33):
and their brother is like a some kind of major
scientists at U c l A that works with tarantula's
and potentially hooking YouTube up and having you have to,
like blindfolded, put your hand in a tarantula tank or
something to that effect. I had mentioned fear factor. All
I know is I'm glad that my thing was snow

(36:53):
and not spiders, because if I had had to do
something snow related, and I guess technically I did when
I decided on my own to do the polar plunge
when I was at the Super Bowl, uh, the spider
thing would not have happened. Like the spider thing might
have been me polishing up my resume before getting involved
in that. I don't fear a whole lot of things,
but I'd also prefer not to be around certain things.

(37:13):
Spiders definitely one of those. Jeff, how do you feel
about spiders? Um? I snakes them? Oh? Yes, agree with
that I say, snakes bother me more. Um, you know,
spiders just you know, they kind of just like hang out.
Snakes are always slithering and moving and like just I

(37:33):
am doing snakes. Um, yeah, spiders are okay. I mean
obviously they're not. If they're as big as a dog,
that would worry me a little bit. Um. But but
they weren't, Jeff know they were. They were not. It
was as big as a kitten. Like I'm in the
middle of, like my kids getting ready in the morning,

(37:54):
y'all call me on went every Wednesday morning like I'm
just trying to rush around my kids, just screaming in
the background, and then for fifth few minutes, I'm just laughing.
On the on the side, were roasting Danny for messing
up with size of a spider. The best is we
have this NFL expert that comes on every Wednesday an
hour or two to talk about things, and we've got
free agency starting, and we talked about free agency with

(38:17):
you for about three minutes of that like eight team
that we had you on the air yesterday. Because our
focus was so concerned with Danny g and hit the
lie that he was trying to perpetrate out in Los Angeles,
But it was a lot of fun. That's stuff that
you're only gonna get here on outike the coverage, for sure.
So one more minute, we'll go ahead and get this
out of the way. Since all you guys are Lakers songs.

(38:38):
What exactly was Luke Walton doing last night? I understand
that the starters were beat uh, that they were tired,
but you got the Warriors on the ropes. But Clay
Thompson out with Steph Curry, out with Draymond Green, out
with them kind of already believing that they're just gonna
take that two seed and not try too hard make
sure they're healthy going into the postseason, because it really
doesn't matter if they have the one seed. If they're

(38:59):
the Warriors, they should believe they can go on the
road and win. All those teams, even the Jordan's Bulls
had to go on the road at different times and
win a couple of times. So that's maybe the last
hurdle that the Warriors have to cross. But what exactly
are the Lakers doing in this like last half minute,
not just kind of punting on a game they should
have been able to win. Then I would have played
everybody last night won that game, because that's just been

(39:21):
a big win for your fans to beat Golden State
and then come back and rest the guys the next
couple of games. Maybe because it was on the road
and they won't care about their guys playing home. I
don't know. I really don't know why I wasn't a
brilliant as Laker fans, we were shaking our heads. I mean,
Alex Caruso was running the floor. That's all you need

(39:41):
to do. Yeah, who is that guy? I've never even
heard of Alex Caruso. Have you heard of Kirk Cousins?
Have you heard of a J mccarram. We'll talk about
him all next on out Kick, our number two of

(40:45):
Clay Travis is in Las Vegas. He will be back
on Monday. We talked a lot Attorney in our one.
We will talk a whole lot more before we're done today,
and probably even more tomorrow as we will have some results.
And it's the n C Double A Tournament. I hope
you don't at a boring day of games today. I
don't want to see a lot of chalk today. I
want to see some buzzer beaters, want to see some comebacks.

(41:06):
I want to see some fun again. Our telephone number
is eight seven seven nine six three six nine. If
you want to join us, you can talk all about
the tournament, how you have your brackets set up today,
what your upset is, who your national champion is, all
that good stuff. Or you can talk about an NFL
free agency, which is where we're gonna head right now,
before I even start asking specific questions or getting into

(41:26):
necessarily specific topics. What is the biggest takeaway Jeff, as
you look at it from this wild first day, but
really it's like a first two or three days because
all of these things started to leak out because the
NFL has no rules. Even though they try to have rules,
they end up not really having a whole lot of
rules when it comes to this. I think it made

(41:46):
it a lot more fun because you had to stay
around Twitter or stay around the Internet to make sure
you knew what was going on and you were up
to date on it. But what's what's your number one
takeaway from what you've seen in free agency thus? For Well,
obviously the money, a lot of money, which is great
for players, But I think you see a lot of
positions where there's desperate need um. Obviously quarterback. We see

(42:07):
that your Kirk cousins had all the leverage with Minnesota
when Drew Brees went back to New Orleans in case
Keena went to Denver. Uh, you know, all the all
the leverage went to UH went to Kirk Cousins. So
he ended up going too to Minnesota. But then we
see look a J. McCarron goes to Buffalo for I
think they saw the deal came out this morning more

(42:27):
money than I would know. I think it was six
million guaranteed, which is crazy. We see Sam Bradford getting
twenty million from from the Cardinals. We see Mike Glenningan
signed by the Cardinals. Chase Daniel is a backup quarterback
in Chicago getting a good amount of money. We just
see the need for for quarterbacks and then defensive backs
and maybe like fourteen defensive backs signed within the first

(42:49):
you know three days of freight where really the fregie
started yesterday, but um, you know the first three days
of fred to see plus the legal you know, negotiation period.
And then this is something that's um that's interesting. You
know a lot of veterans now are saying no to
to these restructures, and I don't know if it's because
they feel more bold, whether they feel they can make

(43:11):
more in free agency. But we see Tyrone Matthews say no,
We've seen the DRC say no, We've seen and Eric
Ebronze I think, say no, We've seen a lot of
these players. We saw Richard Sherman say no. Um, a
lot of these players have ended up deciding, look, we're
not going to restructure. We're not gonna take a pay cut.
We think we deserve this and we're gonna go to
free agency and figure out if we are worth that.

(43:32):
And that's been a new thing in the NFL. I
think a lot of guys accept typically accept the restructures
and just go about doing it because they want to,
you know, stay where they're at. They have a chance
to win. And a lot of players now are like,
you know, let's screw it. I'm gonna take more money
somewhere else. I think I'm worth X amount. You don't
want to pay me that, I'm gonna I'm out of here.
So that's that's a new thing, that a new trend

(43:53):
in the NFL. And we'll see if it works. I mean,
Tyron Matthew, I think I'll end up getting a lot
of money from somewhere, maybe more than he would have
made air Zonah. But for these other guys, I think Sherman,
while I appreciate him not wanting to have an agent, um,
you know, his deal is very incentive lading, and it's
gonna be tougher I think for him to reach a
lot of these incentives, and he probably would have made
more if he had had it in ages or at

(44:15):
least decided to take a lot of his visits, which
he didn't do. UM. So that that's a trend, just
kind of inside football thing that that's been very interesting
to me is guys deciding, look, we're gonna we're gonna
risk it all um, and you know, we don't know
what we're gonna get out there, but I think I'm
worth more than what the team is willing to pay me.
What about the ex Patriots, the newest crop of ex Patriots.

(44:37):
You've got Danny am and Dola, who I'm a little
surprised isn't just gonna finish his career in New England.
Nate Solder who had played his entire career in New England,
who is now a New York Giant. And then the
pair and Dion Lewis and Malcolm Butler who lead New
England and head to Tennessee, where John Robinson knows them
pretty well and probably likes to get a couple of
Patriots got one last year, uh as well for that team.

(44:59):
One thing that the Patriots never tend to do is
overpay for guys, and they will let guys go that
you think still have a lot left in the tank,
sometimes earlier than other teams might, because they know with
their system they can find other people that can kind
of make it. And a lot of those ex Patriots
go on to do very little when they leave New England.

(45:19):
But how about these guys in particular, Well, you know,
Am and Dola have been asked to take many pay
cuts and it has not made very much money. So
I'm not surprised he went somewhere we could finally get
paid out. What are the Dolphins doing, man, Dolphins, of
all these holes and they end up signing two wide receivers.
I don't know what's wrong with them? Um, I mean,
I think the thought processes we can sign two wide
receivers to pay you know, we would have paid Jarvis

(45:41):
Landry um but none. Nonetheless, I mean they released Julian Thomas,
they released in Dominican sue. Their offensive line is a
complete disaster. Tannehill restructure deal. They don't really have a
healthy quarterback hitting in this season. Um. As far as
the Patriots, you know, they it makes sense that this

(46:01):
would be Tom Brady's last year. I mean all these
changes around him. Now. They lost their left tackle, they
lost Dean and Lewis, They lost Butler, who didn't play
in the super Bowl. By the way, did you see
he finally gave an explanation from why he thinks he
was benched. Um, Basically, he was sort of sick the
week of the Super Bowl the week before and maybe
Belichick didn't think he was fully prepared to play. It
was kind of a weird reason to why he would

(46:22):
not play, because he should know what he's doing by
week twenty two of the season. Um, and uh, you
know they're putting a lot of a lot on tom
Brady's playing now. They don't have a left tackle at
the moment. They have you know they recently Rex Burkay.
They have some running backs, but Dean Lewis was such
a dual threat for them as a runner and as
a past catcher at the backfield. Um. You know, Butler,

(46:44):
while he didn't play in the Super Bowl has been
a big part of that defense. So they're just losing assets.
And if you're Tom Brady, uh, I think he's kind
of hinted. And if you read some of the things
about his tongue first time uh documentary airing on Facebook,
you know, towards the end of the last episode, he
kind of talked out, um, you know this might be
you know, close to the end. He had that bad
thumb injury. That was a pretty bad gash in his thumb.

(47:07):
I mean, that was that was that was pretty uh impressive.
He's able to play with that and throw with that
with those stitches right there. I just think he's getting
towards the end. I really do. I mean, YouTube a
certain point where your body just can't keep up anymore.
And I wonder with all these changes as well, he
just can't keep carrying the franchise this long. And I
wonder if Bills out pretty soon, they have to have
a good draft to fill some of these holes. There's

(47:27):
not a lot of left tackles to to draft. Uh,
they can play right away. So yeah, the Patriots took
a step back yesterday. Brady's gonna be forty one years old,
and you took away Nate Solder. That's the only thing
that really stood out of about everything. I think Tennessee
did pretty well for themselves. Derrick Henry is gonna be there,
billcal but Dion Lewis is a guy that, as you said,

(47:47):
can catch the ball kind of in the same way
to Marco Murray did. But he's younger and if he's
able to stay healthy, he's definitely somebody that can be
a change of pace back for you. And then Malcolm
Butler is just a leader, and he's made a lot
of big plays in big games, uh and has played
in a bunch of big games as well, which is
something he can bring to that defense, that younger defense,

(48:07):
at least. I guess they're now bringing in more veterans,
but that younger defense in Tennessee, so I can understand
what the Titans were doing. But for Brady, it seems
like the number one goal if you're New England is
keep that guy upright. He's basically immobile at this point.
We saw him trying to make that catch in the
Super Bowl. That was the most we've seen him run
in ages, and it was not a particularly great looking run.
It was not a perfect sprint from Tom Brady. How

(48:29):
good is Solder? How much is he gonna help the Giants?
And how big of a loss is that for New England. Look,
the Soldiers like fifteen and twenty left tackle, but he's
he's reliable And for the Giants they need reliable right now.
And they had to overpay to get reliable. They made
him the highest paid h left tackle in the NFL.
And and because Eric Flowers struggle so much a left
tackle they need, they need that presence. It's funny. Someone

(48:52):
tweeting me yesterday said, well, Eric Flowers had thirty nine
pressures last year and Soldier pressures, who's the better tackle?
I think it's Eric Flower as well. Eli throws the
ball in two point four seconds quick as in the NFL.
Thirty nine pressures is quite impressive, and that's terrible. Uh,
you know two point four seconds you barely even get
in a pass set and punch somebody. Um. So I
think just having a calming influence their left tackle. They're

(49:14):
playing at West Coast offense, which is easier on tackles.
They slide to the left a bunch uh with their
protections and the mix up the offense a lot um. So, Look,
the Giants had to pay a premium price for a
premium position because they whipped with Eric Flowers. Right, if
they draft Eric Flowers and he ends up being even average,
they don't go out and pay soldier um and they

(49:37):
need to fix their offensive line. Dave Gettleman, the new
GM loves, as he calls hog Moolley's offensive linement. I
would not be surprised by the way. Get the Giants
at two. Take Quit Nelson, the guard from Notre Dame. Um,
that would be a better pick for them if they
don't fix some of their offensive line issues in fringing.
You know there's parts they have their John Greco. They
signed uh an offensive linement last night as well. They

(49:59):
could draft Wayne Nelson at two over over c Quon Barkley,
because look, the Browns are drafting quarterback at one. I
don't want to hear anymore that they're drafting Barkley. It's
not happening. There's no evidence whatsoever that John Dorrison, the
new GM, will will take it, will take a running
back at one. His He had four first round draft
picks in five years in Kansas City. He picked the

(50:19):
four most important positions on the field. He picked the
left tackle in Eric Fisher. He picked a cornerback and
Marcus Peters, he picked the defensive end and d Ford.
And he picked a quarterback in Pat Mahomes. He's picking
a quarterback and number one and Sam Donald. It's gonna
happen market down right now. Um. Now, they might pick
Barkley at four. They might trade up to two and
pick up Barkley. The Browns were tenth and rushing last year.

(50:42):
They were thirty second in passing. They do not need
a running back. They need a left tackle now more
anything else. Um, it's too early in the draft to
pick a left tackle four probably, Um, but they need
that more thany need a running back. Uh. We've got
Clay Travis on line one. Now, I'm just kid. He's
still trying to make that that Sa Kwan argument, which

(51:02):
I didn't necessarily disagree with. And then they bring in Taylor.
Then you're like, all right, maybe you can get a
quarterback at four, But then signing Carlos Hide makes it
so that you don't necessarily have to overdo it and
go with Barkley at number one either. The one argument
that you made I think yesterday and I thought about
this before is. I think it's pretty rare when a
general manager or a personnel staff or scouting staff falls

(51:26):
in love with four or five quarterbacks. Usually they have
one guy that seems to really match the system, match
the personnel that they have, and that's the guy that
they're targeting. And if you're at one and you're the
Cleveland Browns, you can throw all the money you want
at all these free agents and try to make this
thing right. But if you don't have a quarterback, it
doesn't matter. You're not gonna be able to win in
this league. Right. And and we've seen running backs when

(51:48):
they're paired with a quarterback that that helps. But look
at the look at the Steelers right. Levian Bell arguably
is the most complete running back in NFL. I think
David Johnson can be in that argument, but he was
hurt last year. The Steelers refuse to give Levan Bell
a long term contract because they know the shelf life
of running backs is short in the NFL. Um they
know that they give him a lot of touches and

(52:10):
a lot of carriers. They know he's won suspension away
from missing a lot of football games. And when the
Steelers have lead on Bell playing, they've averaged twenty five
point three points. He's missed twenty one games. They average
twenty five point three points. Right, so there is a
value in having a Zeke Elliott, Levian Bell, David Johnson.

(52:30):
There's no value in those guys if you don't have
a quarterback to play with them. So the Browns have
to hit homeer on quarterback. They are They are number
one draft number one because they suck at quarterback. That's
the reason. Why not because they're awful in the run game.
And I just say, Kwan Barkley is very talented. I
want to watch his highlight film. He is a great

(52:51):
football player. He might be a great football player in
the NFL. Um But you the value of drafting running
back at one makes zero sense whatsoever when you have
a hole at quarterback. And people will argue, well, the
Browns can take a quarterback at four. The problem with
that argument is yes, they they very well. There's tons
of quarterbacks they will be able to go. Even if

(53:13):
even if they draft Barkley at one and the Giants
trade out of two and the Cold straight out of three,
there will be a quarterback at number four for the
Browns to take the last two seasons, the Browns have
settled for quarterbacks. They settled for Cody Kessler instead of
drafting Carson Wentz. They settled for DeShawn Kaiser instead of
drafting Pat Mahomes, DeShawn Watson, Um and even a Mr. Bisky.

(53:35):
I guess they passed on all these guys and drafted
DeShawn Kaiser. They can't keep passing on the quarterback they want.
If they want Sam Donald, they have to draft him
and number one and take him. You cannot hope that
he falls before. You can't take let's say, Josh Rosen,
because he's there and he's your next highest rated quarterback.
If you love Darna, which I think they do. They

(53:56):
John Dorsey did not attend Um Baker Mayfield's protect yesterday.
W I think Baker it could be an option at
one because with Tyrod Taylor there, you can allow him
a year to get ready. I think he needs a
year to kind of get ready. Now. That's what Tyrod
Taylor affords the Browns, by the ways, an opportunity to
let your young guy sit for a little bit. Remember
John Dorsey was wasn't in Um in two situations where

(54:17):
a young quarterback sat with Aaron Rodgers and Brett Farve
in Green Bay and last year with Pat Mahomes and
Alex Smith. So this feels very much like those two
situations where he can go ahead and draft a quarterback
and let him sit cause ideally, I think you you
want your quarterback to sit for a year. Ideally, And
and this and this day and age in NFL where
kids are coming from college, just it's a totally different
game in college. They're just not as prepared. Especially with

(54:40):
these six guys that were talking about, they're just not
They have each have kind of a flaw. There's no
engine luck that can step in right away and play. UM.
So I think the ideally he would do that, and
you look that a lot. That affords you the opportunity
to draft a Baker Mayfield at one and let him
sit for a year. But you can also draft Sam
Donald and want to let him sit a year, let
him play the last six games the year. Uh tyrod Ta,
there's not in their long term um in their long

(55:03):
term solution in Cleveland. And look, John Dorsey has said
publicly Joe Thomas has said this for him publicly many
times that John Dorsey wanted a veteran quarterback, he got
his veteran quarterback, and then gonna draft a quarterback at one. Still, yeah,
you know you mentioned that, and you mentioned what Taylor
enables you to do if you draft a quarterback. I
kind of feel the same way in Denver as a

(55:23):
Broncos fan, Case Keenum comes in there. He's got the
two year deal for thirty six million dollars. He's gonna
be able to win you some football games. He's a
gigantic upgrade over Simeon. He's certainly enoughgrade over Paxton Lynch.
He knows what he's doing. He was eleven and three,
had the second best QBR in the league last year
for everybody that played a full season. I don't think
that Kirk Cousins is the largest upgrade over case Keenom. Personally,

(55:46):
I think he is an upgrade, but I don't know
to what extent, and certainly Minnesota was willing to pay
him to find out. But my head tells me always
gonna take Baker Mayfield at five unless somebody beats him
to the punch, because I think he really likes Mayfield.
I think he wants to make Mayfield into a quarterback.
But I don't think that Mayfield could come in and
play immediately. So I could easily see case Keenom being

(56:07):
the guy. But you got you sign a guy for
two years. In this case Kingdom, he's clearly a bridge.
He's still not your long term future. And I think
that's the same thing with the Browns, right with Tyrone. Yeah,
and I think I haven't seen the structure for Kingdom's
deal yet. Maybe I can find it in the break
you might it might be a you know, typically they
add extra year onto the back end of a deal

(56:29):
to to pro rate the signing bonus. So if they
give let's say it's a two year deal for twenty
million and ten million and signing monus deal, they pro
rate that over the life of the contract, so five
million five however they want to do it, right's cap
That's how they worked their cap um situation. Um, you know,
I think that number five the Broncos are going from
Mayfield or for Josh Allen. I could see Elway falling

(56:50):
in love with a guy who's a strong arm guy
like John Eliot was as well, um, and a big kid,
a big athletic kid like John Elway was. It feels
like a like a good match. However, the way they've
developed quarterbacks the last couple of years, I don't know
if you can take a Josh Allen who has a
flaw and and just not be able to complete passes.
I'd rather take a Baker Mayfield who can complete a
lot of passes, is a fiery guy, but it comes

(57:13):
from an all college offense and air raid that has
not been successful in the NFL. So you give him
a year. And what's interesting too, by the way, if
you draft Baker Mayfield, the really best season for an
air raid quarterback was case Keenum last year. That's the
best season air a quarterback has had in the NFL.
And you can allow him to learn from that guy
and learn, Hey, how do I come from this offense

(57:34):
that's so pass heavy and the local morandom ball, but
just in general, uh, the air raid offense is pass heavy.
How do I come from that that does nothing that
you would do in the NFL to becoming ukse Keendum?
How do I do that? And so I think that'd
be a good partnership if they draft Baker may a
foot of five. Two interesting comments made one by a
former player and now an analyst, in Dion Sanders about

(57:57):
a quarterback and of Cleveland Browns the other and Dominican Sue,
who was incredibly honest about where his next spot will be.
We will tell you about that next. This is out
Kicked the Coverage with j Martin Jeff talking to NFL
free agency and the n C Double A Tournament. Here
on I'll kick the coverage Fox Sports Radio as specifically
for this song Danny G Makes It Happen Ghetto Boys

(58:19):
on Throwback Thursday. Car shopping can be confusing with terms
like dealer price, list, price, and invoice. True car shows
you what other people pay for the car you want,
so you can recognize a good price when you see
it when you're ready to buy a newer used car
as a true car to enjoy more confident car buying experience.
And damn it feels good to be a gangster, but
damn it does not feel good to get hit by
a train. If you think a train will stop if

(58:40):
it sees your car on the tracks, you're right. It
will about a mile after it hits you stop. Trains
can't plays back on Monday. He's in Vegas. I Jason
Martin joined by NFL Offensive Line veteran Jeff Schwartz g
E O F F. Schwartz. He's down in Charlotte. I'm
in Nashville. Danny g Justin Cooper out in Los Angeles. Damn,
it feels good to be a gangster. Danny always makes
me think of office Space, And when I asked for

(59:02):
Ghetto Boys, I was thinking of that, and I was also,
of course thinking of my mind is playing tricks on
me so that I can talk about sitting in a
four cornered room staring at candles. Yeah, that's a long
time ago, man's years ago. It also makes me think
of that movie where the older the old woman with
the walker is moving faster than the dude in his car,

(59:25):
and of course he's playing the that song real loud.
But then when a black dude comes up to his
window to ask for change, he like locks the door
and rolls his window up. And that's that's Michael Bolton.
That's Michael Michael bolt Why should I change my name? Like?
I know, look, I know, I know. We talked about
comedies on this show, and Clay talks about old schools,

(59:46):
the greatest comedy. I think Office Space at my favorite
comedy of all time. Like, I don't think that. I
don't think you can go wrong with old school. Old
school is really good. I love a lot of comedy films.
Office Space is just a perfect movie. To me, I
love it oh so much. What's great about the scene
on the freeway if anyone from southern California can totally
can totally understand that, Like you try to switch lanes

(01:00:08):
all the time and get the faster lane and there's
never a faster lane, and it's exactly I saw the beginning,
and like, this is exactly my childhood, Like you just can't.
You think you can go fast, you can't, and then
someone who's walking his beating you. It's unbelievably funny. If
you could just go ahead and make sure you do
that from now on, that would be great. Man. Gary
Cole is so awesome. Gary Cole played Bill Lomberg has

(01:00:29):
gone on to do such cool stuff. He's he's done
a great job on Veep as Kent Davidson, he was
he had a good turn on A Good Wife. He's
he's been really good and a lot of stuff he's done.
He's a super talented actor. But that Lumberg character, to me,
is one of like the three to five most iconic
characters of my lifetime and film just in terms of
quotable and fun, there's a lot. I mean, I think

(01:00:51):
Heath Ledgers the Joker is number one, Hannibal Lecter is
probably number two, and then you can kind of start
to you can start to do whatever you want. Like
I'm a big Fletch fan. I'm not gonna put Fletch
up there, but Fletch is definitely a top five film
for me because I absolutely just adored it. But I
don't think you can beat Ledger. I don't think that
you can really beat Hannibal Lecter, especially in the Silence

(01:01:11):
of the Lambs, and then you can kind of get subjective.
But Bill Lumberg, I got so much enjoyment out of
that character through the years, and it never ever fails
when that movie comes on that I want to sit
there and watch it. And there are very few films
these days that I've seen as many times as I've
seen that that kind of keep me there. Dr eMMC brown,
I would say, or Marty McFly and Back to the

(01:01:32):
Future probably also in that list for me. Back to
the Future. Clay and I've talked about this on there
before is a perfect movie, might be the greatest movie
of all time, not called The Dark Knight, at least
in my book, but Bill Lumberg in Office Space. And
that's why I wanted to hear that. Ghetto boys. Now
I'm thinking about going and taking an Epson copier out
into the middle of nowhere with some baseball bats and
and destroying it is tomorrow? Is it? Isn't it so great?

(01:02:01):
Because the movie is so great because we all have
those fantasies at work of just getting rid of the cubicle,
of doing whatever we wanted, getting a promotion for doing
whatever we wanted, um just living our life how we
want to do it, not right, not being tied to
the boss, giving the middle finger to the boss. And
that's why that movie is. And obviously it's a good movie,
but it's basically every worker's fantasy is to give the

(01:02:24):
boss a middle finger and then also get a raise
as well. When he walks into the office and he
takes the door handles off the fish. I love when
he brings the fish to gut and it just guts
it and then just walks back out again. It's unbelievable.
It's so there's so many great just like bit parts
in that film like John C. McGinley talking about Michael

(01:02:46):
Bolton as his entire catalog and the flare obviously at
the restaurants. And Milton another another yeah, very young and
still very attractive Jennifer Aniston. But Stephen Rude, who played Milton,
who was best known would say for what he did
in news Radio when he played Jimmy James. He's also Injustified.
Steven Roots another one of those guys like Gary Cole

(01:03:06):
that has done a ton that you have no idea
if you actually go and IMDb and you'll be like, oh, yeah,
I forgot that was him, and then you realized just
how talented that guy was. But yeah, office space is money.
Anybody who doesn't like office space I don't trust. Quite frankly,
that film is good and you talk about it being
a fantasy, Jeff, honestly, And this is kind of getting
into the weeds a little bit with my pro wrestling history,
But that's why Austin McMahon worked, Because Steve Austin was

(01:03:29):
the blue collar guy who destroyed his boss, humiliated him
week after week after week, and led to the biggest
money that pro wrestling has ever seen in one angle
because it was this dude buttoned up in a suit
that oneted things done a certain way, and then it
was a subversion of hierarchy. It's also the reason The
Office worked because Michael Scott became the butt of every joke.

(01:03:51):
The first season didn't work because he was more of
a domineering, angry boss. When he sort of softened it
up the Office one because you ended up feeling sympathy
for my Chael Scott in the end subversion of hierarchies
where we get a lot of comedy, and I think
that's definitely one of the reasons why Off the Space
worked as well as it did. And Dominican Sue is
gonna be working somewhere and we're gonna tell you what

(01:04:12):
it is that he said, quite honest from Dominican Sue
as he leaves Miami. But first let's bring in Eddie
Garcia and let's find out the latest in the world
of sports. Well, let's start with some news from the
NFL and quarterback news, with A. J. McCarron signing a
two year deal with the Buffalo Bills. He formerly of
the Sincinnity Bengals, the Minnesota Vikings, looking for a backup
for soon to be signed quarterback Kirk Cousins and reported

(01:04:33):
the final hazing a trade with the never Broncos to
acquire Trevor Simeon. Arizona Cardinals signed quarterback Mike glenn In
to a two year, eight million dollar deal. He was
released by the Chicago Bears and the NC Double A tournament.
We had those final two play in games. Syracuse gets
by Arizona State six fifty six and a battle of
eleven seeds. Up next with the Orange is six seeded
TCU and Texas Southern beat North Carolina Central sixty six

(01:04:56):
in a battle of sixteen seeds. Up next with the
Tigers is for one seed Xavier. In the NBA game,
The night was in Boston with the Wizards beat the
Celtics twenty four and double overtime. The Warriors, without Steph Curry,
Clay Thompson or Draymond Green in the lineup still beat
the Lakers one seventeen to one oh six or supports
brought to you by True Car online car shopping and
be confusing, but not anymore. With True Price from True Car,

(01:05:17):
now you can know the exact price you'll pay for
your next car, So it's a true card to enjoy
more confident car buying experience and guys. In honor of
Jeff Schwortz, let's talk about some offensive lineman in the NFL.
The New York Giants agreeing on a deal with former
Patriot left tackle Nate Soldier. It's four years, sixty million dollars.
That makes in the NFL's highest paid offensive lineman and
Cleveland Brown's tackle in future. All of famer Joe Thomas

(01:05:38):
announcing his retirement from the NFL after eleven seasons. He's
rumored to be a top target for an NFL TV
analyst job. Thank you, Eddie, We're coming to your live
from the Geiko Altkicks studios. It's easy to say fifteen
per center more on car insurance with Geiko Gotta Geiko
dot com or call eight hundred nine four seven otto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
Plays back on Monday, I'm Jason Martin and with Jeff

(01:05:59):
Sports talking movies, and of course people are now tweeting
with their favorite characters of all time. Because when you
say something as big as He's the greatest character of
my lifetime, all of a sudden people come out of
the woodwork to tell you what their favorite characters are,
and we like that here at I'll kick eight, Sree
six nine. You can talk Final four, you can talk
free Agency. You can talk about your favorite movie characters

(01:06:20):
if you want. We had somebody tweets Sin and say
Doc Holiday Val Kilmer and Tombstone is his favorite. Tombstone's
great film. I'm not gonna not gonna hate on anybody
that says that, and I will have to have a
backup there. I want to make sure everything was good
breaking news. If you try to tweet me at Jeff
Schwartz and you don't follow me, I don't get your tweets,

(01:06:42):
so it's a good idea, so you should follow me first.
And you've changed my life with that piece of information
because you said I should do it, and I did,
and now my Twitter experience is so much better than
it was before. If you don't want to follow me,
then I don't need to see what you have to say,
not because I need you to follow me, but just
because then you can't just snipe me as somebody that

(01:07:03):
wants to say something nasty here, wants to use foul language,
or wants to be anonymous and then just back off
into the ether. It's like, I don't I don't need
that in my life. Oh no, and I have people
that that tweet me from other accounts. Can you please
unblock me? And I don't mean to say that. No, no,
I mean you didn't. It's it. You didn't mean to
say it. Well you said it. So if you like,

(01:07:25):
I only block people if they say if only block
people if they say kind of a nasty comment toward
my family, but also if you just continue to pester
me with the same stupid comment over and over again,
you're gonna get blocked. And I'm very liberal with the
mute man, like I don't tell my buddies yesterday. If
you if you send me and maybe maybe I'm a
software doing this and maybe I need to debat myself.

(01:07:46):
But if you send me U some argument based off
a tweet I have, and I reply to that with
a disagreement, and you reply again with the same arguing
point at the same point, I'm not changing my mind
like you just you said, would you said, I replied
to it, and you come back with the same exact point.
I'm not gonna get my my timeline and I mentioned
clogged up with this with with these idiotic responses into

(01:08:08):
I just mute those people, like I just can't do it.
I can't look at my timeline just have all these
responses from people that are just stupid. So maybe that's
maybe I need to de bap a little bit. But
I just I meet a ton of people. I I
don't mute a lot of people. I've muted a few people,
and generally it's for offensive stuff. But there will be
those people that continue to make the exact same tweet
basically change like one word, and it's just like, oh,

(01:08:31):
now that you've said it eight times, I completely agree
with you, even though you didn't actually say anything different.
It's like, no, if you want to continue to bolster
your point with different sort of tributaries off that main river,
then maybe we can discuss that. But if we're still
paddling down that same river, we've already gone through the
rapids and I'm still in the boat, like I'm not
going anywhere. Nothing's changing here. I agree, and and and look,

(01:08:54):
we got to point out with social media. I love
social media, right, It's really helped my my career, um
and I use it very very often. I mean I
tweet all the time. Um, but like we've got a
point now where you really it's not a discussion place anymore.
It's just I present my thought on something, and I
don't there's no point in arguing with people who disagree,
because people just want to get on social media to disagree,

(01:09:16):
start arguments, start disagreements. It's got there's no there's no
discords anymore, there's no nuance anymore. It's like a point
now to where like I just say something and I
just don't even really reply to anything else because there's
no point. I mean, you either agree with me you don't,
and I'm not going to change your opinion. Been arguing
with you back and forth on Twitter, and I do
it anyways. I don't know why because I maybe ditd
to doing it, but are maybe need to be more busy,

(01:09:38):
get more busy, But I just I don't feel a
need to get in a lot of discussions with a
lot of the people that follow me. Yeah, I'm kind
of the same way. And I've also you know, years ago,
I was told when I first started writing about pop
culture in particular, hey don't read the comments, just write
your article and then move on because you're not gonna
get in You're not gonna get into anything positive reading
the comments, And originally when I first wrote, I incessantly

(01:10:01):
check the comments. Clase talked about how his mom would
like respond to people that said negative things about him.
I would, you know, I would get very very stressed
out over negative things that were said about stuff I wrote,
and then I just stopped reading it. And I've kind
of come the same way on Twitter. Anytime that I
engage in some kind of argument on Twitter or or
decided to reply to something or quote tweeted, I almost

(01:10:21):
always regret it. I'm just like, I should just let
that go because it wasn't gonna do anything. If I
retweet somebody or quote tweet him and then say, man,
this goes an idiot. What am I really doing? I'm
really just asking for the people that follow me to
go after this person. And that's not really classy. It's
just completely unnecessary. It's like, if you say something I
disagree with, I just need to be able to let
that go. And that's what I've tried to do. Social

(01:10:42):
media can become assesspool and it can become a circle
that you can't get out of. Sometime on social media.
By the way, Diana Rassini of esp has said this yesterday,
and Dominican Sue when quoted when he was leaving Miami,
this is this is kind of my pre Cosmo and
Dominican Sue. But I think if you were actually put

(01:11:02):
a lot of people on lie detectors in sports, they
would say something similar. And dom Kin Sue said he's
looking to go to the highest bidder fit and team
don't matter. End quote. Jeff, Yeah, that's how in NFL things.
That's what I thought, Like, I don't want to like look,
I I I understand the idea of taking less, and

(01:11:26):
some people do it. I don't think it's smart to
give you that. Like d Anthony Thomas just resigned with
the Chiefs. Suppose he took one point five million dollars
less per year to go back to Kansas City. That
I think it's crazy. He's not a top end player.
Take all the money you can. You know, a cousin
signing with with Minnesota, we don't know. By the way,
the other teams have offered him more money. There's one reporter,
Ian Rapport who said on air that he thinks other

(01:11:49):
teams offered him more money. We don't know that quite yet,
and we don't know the structure of of the other contracts.
We don't know if he was guaranteed eighty four million
dollars which he's getting from the Vikings um. And so
if if you don't hear from the player himself or
the agent that they were going to get more money
from somewhere else, then it's coming from the team. And

(01:12:09):
the team does that to say face, they can say, look,
if you're a Jets fan, right, Oh, we offer Cousins
thirty four million dollars a year, and he did. He
turned us down. How dare he turned us down? We're
trying to do what we can, um to make our
team better and and look he turned us down, right,
I mean so very rarely do do guys take less
that are going for their big contract. Now, Drew Brees

(01:12:31):
took less to go back to a place he's been
for fifteen years because he has a chance to win
a Super Bowl there. I understand that. I understand him
not wanting to go somewhere else, um to make a
little bit more money on a new team, a new organization,
a new franchise, a new city. Right, all that come
back to New Orleans. But if you're a top end
player and you're the top of your class, you want
the most money. It says you're one opportunity typically to

(01:12:52):
make as much money as you can, to make life changing,
life altering money. And unhappy that Sue spoke the true
which is what it is. You're going the highest bidder um.
And look, I know people say, well, cousins chose to
take less. I'm not seen that. I not see any
proof that he chose to take less um. Four million
dollars guaranteed is a lot of money. And I don't

(01:13:13):
think that he took that much less, or maybe he
took a tiny bit less to go to you know,
to the Vikings to seem like it was always gonna
be a fit to go to Minnesota. He took the
most money because that's his job is to is to
get is to is to go somewhere to play football
and make as much money as he can and win games,
which he can do. You can win in Minnesota. So
that's one quote in don Kin Sioux, very honest, looking

(01:13:33):
to go the highest bidder, fit and team don't matter.
Maybe this is the last time in domin con Sux
can really cash in, and he's gonna make sure that
he really cashes in. So again that's one quote. On
the other side, we will talk about Dion Sanders and
what he had to say about if he were a
young quarterback and the Browns we're gonna draft him. It's
eye opening. We'll talk to Jeff about it. Next it's
it's uh, I'll kick the coveragechair on Fox Sports Radio.

(01:14:01):
There's one way that it makes it a little easy
to stay alive. If you think a train will stop
if it sees your car on the tracks, You're right.
It will about a mile after it hits you stop.
It's easy. Trains can't zat kicked the coverage plays back
on Monday. I'm Jason Martin is executive producer at J
Marto kicked, Jeff Schwartz at g E O F F. Schwartz.

(01:14:25):
And then there's at u H Bronco Fan that's Justin
Cooper and at Danny G Radio, which actually does make
sense at least for now as he's still employed after
a racnegate. That's Danny G who's spinning the hits for
us today on Throwback Thursday. Here on out kicked the coverage.
So let's talk about the Cleveland Browns. That's always fun.
It's actually a little bit more fun right now than

(01:14:45):
it has been in years past. We're gonna talk about
Joe Thomas. I'm gonna get Jeff's thoughts to somebody who
played on the offensive line about Joe's long career which
comes to an end as he decides I'm gonna stop
getting hit now that I've been injured, and I'm just
gonna go to media where He's done a good job
in the appearances I've seen him do to this point.
Let's talk about Deon Sanders first. I'm not a particular

(01:15:06):
Dion Sanders fan, just because I don't know, like there
are a lot of really good analysts. I don't think
NFL network employees a whole lot of them, but Deon
Sanders sometimes says things that raise eyebrows and certainly can
cause discussion, this being one of them. This is a
tweet from the thirteen. I love what the Browns have
done this offseason, but if I'm a young quarterback, ain't

(01:15:29):
no way I'm going to Cleveland. I would pull up
Eli Manning if possible. Hashtag think about that hashtag truth Jeff.
We know, of course the Eli Manning situation which led
to the trade and Philip Rivers and everything that was
going on with the Chargers and the Giants at the time.
What do you think about Dion's point here, especially the

(01:15:49):
timing of it, when it does seem like Cleveland is
trying to do some things and not just standing pat
like they're they're bringing in free agents, they're spending a
lot of money. That got a lot of draft picks,
and if you're a young quarterback, I don't know, Like
I mean, Eli Manning seemed like he was a can't miss.
I don't know that any of these quarterbacks necessarily are
that at this stage. Yeah, I don't know if they

(01:16:13):
have a leverage to pull that off. Um. I'm I'm
all four player empowerment, you know, being able to choose
where you go, being able to have some sort of leverage. Um.
But like you said, the Browns with John Dorsey, have
made a committed effort. It looks like to get better.
They signed to offensive linemen. Now Hubbard will actually have to,
you know, maybe play left hackle because Joe's gone. Um.

(01:16:36):
They have gone out and signing signed Carlos Hide. Um.
They've improved on defense, They've drafted young players, they have
a young tight end, they have Josh Gordon back. Um,
they have the training for Jarvis and they have weapons. Right.
They have a defense that was actually really historically good
against the run last year that I have to improve
in the secondary and in the back end. Um. But
they can do that through the draft as well. And um,

(01:16:59):
you know, if you were a quarterback, you go to
a situation where look, there, the history has not been
good there. I think we know that, especially with quarterbacks.
Joe Thomas played with twenty quarterbacks in eleven years. It's
pretty remarkable. But um, you know, I think there is
an opportunity to win there. I understand why you would
maybe not wouldn't you know, wouldn't want to go to
Cleveland itself. I was in Cleveland last weekend for a wedding,

(01:17:20):
actually my brother's wedding. Um. Look, it's not the best
place to be in March, but it is. It's a
big city and there's things to do there. Um, And yeah,
I just I wouldn't do it personally. And I think
if you get drafted by the Browns, there is some
upside to playing there with Hugh Jackson now, and I
don't know how long I'm staying. With John Dorsey, I

(01:17:40):
would really trust them to rebuild this team. He rebuilt
the Chiefs. He brought in some excellent front office people
as well, a couple of people from the Packers um
that they can build up a team. So I think
it's a different situation than it was a year ago.
A year ago, maybe I would have said stay away
from the Browns, especially if they were still in the
same direction they were going. But with John Dorrisey, I
would feel really comfortable if I was a young player

(01:18:02):
going to Cleveland. Yeah, I mean, you talk about some
of the weapons. You've got Josh Gordon, You've got Jervis Landry,
You've got David and Joeku. Duke Johnson is a capable
running back. Maybe you could say Kwan Barkley. If not,
you have Carlos Hide. Now you have one of the
top offensive lines in the league, or certainly a very
capable offensive line, even without Joe Thomas. Yeah, it does

(01:18:25):
make a big difference. But yeah, you know they'll they'll
try and certainly fix that and maybe in the draft
or maybe they'll continue to make a couple of extra moves.
But what's the difference I would ask Dian Sanders between
that and the other teams that are pretty high up there,
Like obviously you may have to sit behind somebody if
you go to some of those other teams, But are
those other teams that much more equipped in Cleveland? Cleveland

(01:18:46):
seems to be trying to make all the right moves,
and isn't that what you want as a young quarterback
at least an aggressive front office? And John Dorsey has
shown that he knows what he's doing because of what
he did in his previous spot. Like right now, I
would say that the Browns have a better roster and
a better future than the Colts A three. Yes, yeah,

(01:19:07):
at least at least the Colts, and even at least
arguably I know, now maybe you're seeing more with what
Gentleman's gonna do. But even the Giants, I mean, the
Giants weren't that they were good on paper, but they
were not. It turned out not to work out at all.
I just look at Cleveland and say, that's a team
that's trying, and if I'm a young quarterback, that's what
I want to see. And what's the expectation if you
go there. You end up on the scrap beef if

(01:19:28):
it doesn't work out. If you turn out to be good,
you get a statue in five years. This is our kick,

(01:20:10):
I'm I'm Jason Martin. Was about say I'm Jeff Schwartz.
That's would not have been accurate. Jeff Swartz is in Charlotte.
He's with me. I'm at j Mardt kick on Twitter.
He is at g E O F. F. Schwartz. N
C Double A Tournament begins today which means a whole
lot of people are gonna be out of work today,
a whole lot of sneezing beginning. Hopefully, you set the
stage for yourself by pretending and beginning. Your symptoms a

(01:20:32):
couple of days ago, they increased. Yesterday you had a
hard time talking. Today it's a fever. Tomorrow it's clammy hands.
You're going full on Ferris Bueller, and you're finding your
way out of work for the next couple of days
to watch all this basketball. I do have a question
for you, though. Tiger Woods is playing at bay Hill
this weekend. He's won that tournament eight times. If he's

(01:20:52):
in contention over the weekend, how much golf are you
gonna watch during the n C Double A Tournament. Jeff,
I'm gonna be watching a lot. I'm gonna have multiple
screens up, for sure, because Tiger Woods is the most
captivating figure of my lifetime not named Michael Jordan's Sports.
Last Sunday, I was doing radio and I had my

(01:21:12):
iPad watching golf in March. I'd never watched golf in
March because I wanted to see and look Tiger played well.
He just he couldn't he couldn't make any birdies. He
part about everything, so he was really close. He was
right there. Um And look, I don't know what it
is about Tiger, maybe because he's probably the most physically
dominant golfer of all time, but golf needed him and

(01:21:33):
and golf needed him back. And there's a lot of
people growing up that are that are our age, that
grew up watching Tiger and watching him succeed and feel
that that that Tiger is golf, Like I feel that
Tiger Woods is golf, and so having Tiger back is
such a huge boost. Um too to uh to the
sports funny people, you know, I tweet, you know about Tiger,

(01:21:54):
and people are like, well, you're you're You're not the
fan golf wants. No, I am the fan golf wants.
I'm the one who tunes into watch that's separate of
everyone else who watches, because I'm the one that wants
to watch Tiger play well. And I'm the one who's
driving their ratings up. And I'm the one who's gonna
talk about Tiger Woods. Now. That's exactly the fan golf
needs back, is me. And so it's funny that all
these golf very golf and soccer are very territorial sports.

(01:22:17):
They're fans are very passionate. If you aren't like a lifer,
they get after you on Twitter. Yeah you know, I'm
I'm the other person. I'm the guy that's always watching.
But I'm also a huge Tiger Woods fan. He's probably
my favorite athlete maybe ever, even with everything that happened
to him. But I watched golf religiously all the time
because I just love the p g A. It's something

(01:22:38):
I couldn't fathom doing myself, and I get really into it.
And you talk about physically imposing, there are physically imposing
guys that are out there on tour now. Dustin Johnson
hits it a mile. He doesn't move the needle like
Tiger Woods. Jordan's speech and Rory McElroy and Jason Day
and all of the folks that we've seen, even the
Justin Roses, have not moved the needle for golf. Nobody's
been able to really capture and just strangle golf off

(01:23:00):
by the neck since Tiger Woods, and of course when
Tiger and Phil were both rolling. I don't know, I
don't think we've ever seen a stretch like what we
saw with Tiger Woods from ninety seven to even the
oh two in particular, but obviously he was still winning
majors long after that. We've seen Stuart Spurts, we saw

(01:23:22):
Rory win a couple of majors in a year like, oh,
it's Rory's time, and then Rory falls off the map.
Jordan's Speece wins a couple of things in a row
all of a sudden, it's Jordan's Speaks time, and he's
not able to kind of capitalize. He's able to stay close,
but he's just not able to stay as dominant as
Tiger was during that time. Tiger was such an anomaly,
it was it was so amazing to watch and similar

(01:23:44):
to Jordan. And we talked about this this week, Guys
that moved the needle in their sports and how Michael Jordan.
Clay made the argument that Michael Jordan's still sells more
shoes than everybody in the NBA combined. I would argue
that that's less now about loving Michael Jordan's and it's
more about what the fashion statement Jordan's have become, because
it's not like all the new Jordans that are coming
out the new Jordan brand shoes are just tearing up

(01:24:07):
the charts. It's the color ways off the classic Jay's
that everybody still wants to wear. That kind of moves
the needle now more so than anything else. But you
talk about people that make you want to tune in,
where otherwise you might not care as much. I think
Michael Phelps probably deserves to be in that discussion as well.
Without Michael Phelps, I think there are a lot of
people that aren't gonna watch swimming, even though you get

(01:24:28):
behind the flag and you start to watch the Olympics.
But there are certain guys Mike Tyson, uh, certainly Connor McGregor,
even Rhonda Rousey when she was really on top of
the octagon people. I mean, Rhonda Rousey in a division
where no one knew any of the other fighters not
named Rhonda Rousey did over a million pay per view
buys in a fight she had in Australia. I mean,

(01:24:48):
she was big time, big time. But Tiger Woods is
big time and nobody's been able to do it. And
now you've got people that you know are really talented,
like the Speech, like the McIlroy's, like the Jason Days,
like the Ston Johnson's, like the Justin Roses, and then
you've got Tiger coming back. And if Tiger can just
put it together and win a tournament, everybody wants to

(01:25:09):
see this. And I would argue that his story is
so much better now than it would have been if
he had just been dominant over the last eight or
nine more years. I think we would have gotten tired
of it at some point watching the dominant, the fact
that he fell off the map, fell from grace in
a way we've never seen other than O. J. Simpson,
And I know those two things are vastly different, but
and O J was done, and maybe an active athlete,

(01:25:32):
nobody's fallen from grace quite like Tiger, if he's able
to recapture it, and maybe when the Masters win, a
couple of more majors bring up this. Jack Nicholas point again,
I think that story is iconically great in a way
that him being dominant his entire career couldn't have been. Yeah,
and I think that for a casual golf friend like me,

(01:25:55):
obviously Tiger winning and watching him be so dominant was
honestly very fun. But you know, he was frinted other golfers.
He would cheer, he would throw his clubs, he would cuss,
He acted like we would act if we're playing golf, Right,
if we hit a big putt, we're gonna fist pump
out there on the golf course. Well so well so
will Tiger um And in a sport that's so buttoned

(01:26:15):
up that wants their golfers to act a certain way
that's all about decorum and following the rules, and which
they are. Obviously they do all that, but like and
you know, politeness, and Tiger was different than that. Right,
he showed emotion, fist pumped, he would cuss all the time, right,
throw golf clubs, he would do all that stuff. And
I think that's also people like, oh yeah, he plays
golf or emotionally like I do. Obviously we don't play

(01:26:37):
golf like him on the golf course. Is a is
a non golfer. But that's I think what drew people
to Tiger as well. And then I think your point
about redemption story. You know you either love or hate Tiger.
I think now with what happened, I and I said
this many times, like the baseball steroid thing doesn't bother me.
What Tiger does off the field doesn't bother me. That
was none of our business, right, I mean, that's that's

(01:26:58):
his own private life. It's he made public now. UM.
I have never really concerned myself with what athletes do
off the field, unless it becomes, you know, a public
safety issue or they're out committing crimes and doing things
like that. Um, you know, that's his own life. If
he wants to go around and screw a bunch of
people while he's married, that's his own business. I'm not
gonna not be a fan of his, you know, him

(01:27:21):
as a golfer because of what he did, Um off
the course. I know a lot of people are turned
off by Tiger, but I've never looked at sports and
sports figures and people with athletes that I've enjoyed is
like being the you know, the the the moral uh
equivalent I need to look up to. I never I
never felt that way about athletes. So I just like
watching you know, I love the steroid era in baseball. Um,

(01:27:42):
I like watching Tiger Woods. That doesn't bother me. Yeah,
I think you make a valid point there. There's always
the argument about not meeting your heroes because then you
find out exactly what they're really like. One thing about
living in a in a city like Nashville, where you
have musicians walking the street all the time, him and
television personalities walking the streets all the time, and certainly
those guys in out in l A can speak to

(01:28:04):
it on an even greater level. When your time out
in California and you being around the NFL, there's there's
a condition of being starstruck that goes away when you
start to realize that these people are sometimes the most shallow,
most just unrefined, just there's no reason to really idolize
them at all. And once you start to see them

(01:28:26):
as just another person, just like anybody else, it's not
really about you kind of controlling yourself. It's about you
starting to measure your expectations. You know. I I don't
know the last athlete that I really just looked at
and said, that guy is just a perfect example of
what a human being should be. But I mean, you know,
Peyton Manning is likable, but as Peyton Manning legitimate, I

(01:28:49):
have no idea. Do I really think that dudes's eating
Papa John's pizzas all the time? I doubt it, you know,
I don't know for sure. I mean, Tom Brady had
a moat he had a moat around his house, and
Tom Brady's supposed to be totally untouchable. I don't know
how down to earth Payton Manning is. I've never been
in the same room with him and sat down. I
thought Kevin Durant was told we saw spoken, then he
started to talk in Oklahoma City, and we've seen what

(01:29:10):
he's done in Golden State. Like, guys change, they evolve,
not to mention they have lives that we don't understand,
and we assume that all of the things going on
in those lives are great because we don't hear about them,
and then we find out something like Chris Cornell has
been depressed for years and he ends up killing himself
or all of those kinds of things like that. You

(01:29:30):
look at people with perfect lives and don't realize how
imperfect they actually are and how much closer you are
to them. So I think when you look at a
guy like Tiger Woods and the situations that he's been through,
you can't necessarily some of you, I guess can, unfortunately,
but many of us can't relate directly to what we
can do. What are you've have done? But we can
point back to mistakes that we've made in our own

(01:29:52):
lives and say, dude, I mean that guy had it
all and lost it, But you gotta kind of feel
sorry for him. And he's now trying and to make amends.
He's trying to be a better person. He's coming back,
and now he looks sort of like everybody else. He's
not as dominant as he once was. He doesn't hit
it as long, he doesn't make those clutch putts like
you talked about. He made a ton of oars. He

(01:30:12):
could not make a putt in the front nine to
save his life. If he could have, he probably wins
that tournament. He finally makes one on seventeen, and then
he can't get the job done on eighteen, but he
finishes in second place. But I think it's less about
the fall from grace and the redemption than it is
that when you see someone fall from grace, you then
realize the importance of grace in your own life, and

(01:30:35):
you can start to look at somebody like Tiger Woods
in a different light and say, you know what, that
robot might deserve a little bit more sympathy, a little
bit more of our own emotion, because what would we
have done if we had grown up in Tiger Woods
a situation the way he was handed a golf club
out of the womb. One of the great Saturday Night
Live skits of all time is the Tim Meadows and

(01:30:55):
Tracy Morgan Tiger and Earl Wood's sketch where and you
can still find this on YouTube where basically Tiger said, yeah,
I was there to Augusta and I was on eighteen
about to make that putt and all I heard in
the background was my dad chitching, chitching, chitching. Tiger Woods
never had a chance to live a real life, and
sometimes we don't fully appreciate the unique quality of the

(01:31:20):
circumstances somebody like Tiger Woods had to endure from a
very young age. Well, I think you bring up a
couple of good points. And something that I often talk
about is that athletes are just like everyone else. We
just have a talent that pays us really well. And
money does not fix problems. It fixes some problems, but
if you have a mentor if you have you know,

(01:31:41):
mental issues, if you have substance abuse problems, money often
makes it worse. Um. And so I think that that
you know, with with Tiger and with other people that
are successful we assume that nothing is wrong in their
life because they're successful on the court, or on the
golf course or on the field, when in fact they

(01:32:03):
do have demons just like everyone else does. And yes,
the the money might help to alleviate some of those,
it might make it worse. Um. You know, Tiger Woods
being so famous and being able to land any woman
he wanted, that probably made it worse for him and
in his relationship. Obviously I'm not I'm not saying I'm
not trying to say that he should have done what
he did. Um. But also you know, just that we

(01:32:26):
are regular people, uh, that that that happened to be
you know, that happened to be good at a certain skill,
and we obviously get paid a lot to be good
at that skill. And I think that that just kind
of reinforces, um, that idea when you talk about, um,
you know, the way that that you view athletes. Yeah,

(01:32:46):
And another thing that you kind of just said there is,
you know, sometimes money makes it worse. We all often
have a tendency to look at somebody like a Tiger
Woods or somebody super famous like a Brad Pitt or
The Rock or whoever it is, and say, man, if
only I could have that guy's life. But you don't
know how you would handle that guy's life, nor do
you know how that guy is handling his own life.

(01:33:08):
Like I've sometimes prayed and and thank God for not
giving me a ton of money or not giving me,
you know, all this fame or all of these things
that you would think that everybody would want. And I
thank him for that because I realized that without those things,
I'm able to at least attempt to try and stay humble.
Some people can't handle it. Like you said, Tiger Woods

(01:33:29):
was so famous he could have every woman, so he
was able to feed into his addiction. If you have
a ton of money and you're on drugs, where's a
lot of that money gonna go. You're never gonna be
able to beat your addiction because you're not gonna end
up on the street, because you're just gonna spend money
after money after money, and you're gonna end up not
having the life that you should have. So I do
think at times it's better not to live the life

(01:33:51):
of a Tiger Woods or a famous person. But I
do think that Tiger's redemption story makes this so much sweeter.
And I have a hard time believing there's a lot
lot of people out there rooting against Tiger Woods. At
this stage, I feel like we all are starting to
get together and just want to see this happen again. Yeah.
And one last point to to athletes lives and this

(01:34:14):
is a problem I think that's in our society now
as well, is with the influence of social media. You
you typically only see the best in someone's life. You
obviously you know like that no one's putting out the
worst in their life. So we often you know, social media,
say social media, I know you believe this. Social media
is not real life. Um, it's the it's the best
part of your life in advert right. And we see

(01:34:35):
and we see athletes rightfully so bragging about private planes
and doing you know, going to great, great vacations, having
great food, doing fun things. But that doesn't mean that
they don't have depression, anxiety, have problems at home in
their relationship. Um. And so I think we get we
get intoxicated with what someone posts on Instagram or Twitter

(01:34:58):
as being real life. That's not real life. Now, I
I try to post as much as I can about
everything in my life that you know, positive and negative,
because I think it's important, but um, I mean I
probably put on social media and people think I tweet
a lot. I do tweet a lot. I probably put
on social media like five percent of my life because um,
you know, you want to have some privacy as well.

(01:35:18):
But you put all the good out, you don't put
all the bad out. So that advance a reminder of
people that see athletes and look at the great life
they have. And look, I'm not gonna deny that I've
had a special life so far. And obviously I've made
money and that does help in my life and help
me do the fun things in my life. And and
there's a lot of athletes that made a lot more
than me. Um, And yes, they can have fun in

(01:35:40):
their life, but also that did not exclude them from
having the same issues that everyone else listening has. A
lot of people are making a lot of money though,
especially with these free agent moves. Will continue to talk
about that. Up next, I'm gonna ask Jeff about Joe
Thomas and his career and certainly somebody that played on
the offensive line in the NFL, what Joe Thomas was,
how good he actually was, and just a career of futility,

(01:36:03):
not not him, but around him in that Cleveland organization,
and just as they seem to be getting good, he's
gonna move on and try to play his hand in
media instead of on the offensive line for the Cleveland Browns.
We'll talk about that. Also, will pivot back to the
n C Double A Tournament. We will reveal our final fours.
We will reveal our national champions as well. If you
have those thoughts yourself. Eight seven, seven, nine nine six

(01:36:26):
six three six nine. We got more coming up, so
I'll kick the coverage on Fox Sports Radio. I'll kick
the coverage. Car shopping can be confusing with terms ideal
of price. Let's Brice and invoice. True car shows you
what other people paid for the car and you want,
so you can recognize a good price when you're ready
to buy a newer Use Carve as a true Car

(01:36:46):
to enjoy more confident car buying experience. Bobby Brown, right,
try to make sure I didn't overthink this. Where's the BBD? Yeah, yeah,
I was trying to get between the two of them.
When I was thinking of Bell bid Devo, I was
thinking of Fresh Prince, the episode where they filmed the
video and his house when the parents were out of town.

(01:37:08):
You could have just went Clay and said Nelly Na
or Ludicrous could have also gone with Ludicrous. I knew,
I knew it. Yeah. BBD was was great back in
the day. But you have Michael Bivens was kind of
associated with Bobby Brown for a while though, right, wasn't
he daying with the new edition stuff? Well, of course
when they all broke up and we're fighting, you know,

(01:37:30):
they they had the idea to the three of them
to get together to do their little mini projects. So
that was going on while Bobby was doing his solo
thing and uh Man Bell biv devote of course famous
for the suspenders with the the airbrush painting, the air
brush paintings all over them. So yeah, man, that's that's
a part of Americano right there. Poison their biggest it.

(01:37:52):
Yeah for sure. I mean to this day, that gets
played in every single NBA arena almost almost nightly, as
it should. It's a great song. I miss old hip hop,
I truly do. There's still some good stuff out there now,
and then there's some really weird, really terrible stuff like
Little Pump and things like that that are out there
that should not be out there, and there. I just

(01:38:14):
kind of hope Clay continues to say ludicrous every time
he hears a little pump. Justin could actually hop on
the mic here, because I'm pretty sure he's not a
little Pump fan either. What a little pump gud gang?
It's it's good gang. It's it's what we call mumble rap,
you know, mumble rap. It sounds like the rappers, some

(01:38:36):
of the rappers nowadays. Sounds like they have a bunch
of marbles in their mouth. Sounds like Dion Waiters. Like,
if you want to find a really funny video just
to make your Thursday, go look up Dion Waiters doing
like voiceover work for NBA two K eighteen. Little little
Little Pump looks like this. Yeah. He also he has

(01:38:58):
a song where like I believe the lyrics are just
him saying de rows over and over again. That takes talent.
You gotta say that on Gotta say that on Caden's
here's a stat for you. And Joe Thomas's eleven seasons
in the NFL, he never went one and oh not

(01:39:20):
one time in the entire career did he win. In
Week one with the Cleveland Browns. Joe Thomas, who is tired. Now, yeah,
it was not necessarily an easy road for them in
week one. But oh and eleven, you never ever started
out of season one? And oh, that is utterly incredible.
We're gonna have some audio here coming up of of

(01:39:42):
Joe Thomas, who was on e sixty and he was
able to rattle off all the starting quarterbacks that he
played with in his time in Cleveland, and he did
it without notes, and it's pretty incredible. But Jeffson, would
you say the audio is ready for you? I thought
we had something coming through my through my earpiece there,
all right, Jeff you played on the offensive line. Obviously,
Joe Thomas was, you know, as he came out of college,

(01:40:05):
everybody expected him to be good. Certainly was When you
think of Joe Thomas, what immediately comes to mind before
you get to Joe? Real quick? Do you know my
favorite Cleveland Brown stat Do you know who has the
most wins in their new stadium since they since they
came back to Cleveland? Which studying quarterback has the most wins?

(01:40:25):
I guess it can't be somebody like Derek Anderson because
that would be too easy. I have no idea. Y Oh,
you mean other teams Okay, No, In general, he has
more wins than quarterback in in there in the stadium.
It's like fifteen and two, fifteen and two. Um. So

(01:40:45):
you know, Joe, I think it's this. He is the
ultimate pro right, we saw him have a ten thousand STAPs,
ultimate iron man, goes to work every day, does his job,
no complaining. I would be uh, it would be very
hard for me to think of another Hall of Fame
offense alignment who's had as many losing seasons, who's had
as many opportunities to be in a two minute drew

(01:41:06):
when he can give up sacks, who's had to take
so many reps knowing they were't gonna win the game. Um,
and just Joe uh athletically and his mental processing is
just better than other offensive alignment. And you know people
often ask me sometimes, you know what sets a part
of Hall of Famer? I played with Julius Peppers. Who'll
be in the Hall of Fame, Steve Smith, the wide receiver,

(01:41:28):
Adrian Peterson, you know, maybe an Eli Manning, which I
think he should be. If Jamal Charles can kind of
um to resurrect his career, I think he's a Hall
of Fame level talent um, and so they just process
things and they're just better athletically than anyone else. It's
hard to explain, um, but they just are. And that's

(01:41:49):
what Joe did. What what Joe was able to do.
It tackle about combining his athleticism, his balance, his strength,
his hands, all that come mind right to be on
his his flexibility, all that athleticism combined with his mental
processing being able to know what a defensive lineman was
gonna do, and then during the rep being able to

(01:42:11):
see in advance. Because I've talked to him about this.
My brother probably four years with Joe in Cleveland, and
I saw Joe three weeks ago from my brother's bachelor partment.
He was like, to sixty, I mean you you everyone
knew he was retiring. It wasn't a surprise. I don't think.
He lost a whole bunch of weight and was doing
a munch of media, doing a much of media. He's
been on auditions for for Fox already, maybe ESPN, maybe CBS.

(01:42:32):
He's gonna be somewhere this year, either calling James or
being in studio. He's he's really fantastic, And I think
um and so his his ability to two know what's
happening before the snap, and then also during the snap
be able to see the move that the that the
defensive lineman was going to hit him with is remarkable.
I couldn't do that I could do as a player.

(01:42:53):
I took I took one set, I threw my punch. Yeah,
sometimes I can anticipate what was gonna happen. I could
read a spin move, I could be a hand swipe.
But Joe was able to combat everything that that the
defensive lineman was doing because he was able to process
it in real time fast that anyone else was, and
then also not only process it but also be in
the right place, like I mentioned with with his hands,

(01:43:14):
with his feet, with his athleticism, um, and his ability
to combine both of those is what made him so
special and you know, best tackle of the generation. He
should walk right into Canton his first opportunity. UM. It
was funny when I was with him a couple weeks ago,
he was already talking about like being in He made
a comment about like, I don't know who's gonna who's

(01:43:35):
gonna be my speaker in Canton. I don't think that
was the exact comment, but he like referenced Canton, like
he knows he's going in the Hall of Family. It's
got to be pretty remarkable to be a player and
know you're that good. I mean, I was played eight years,
I was I was good for some period of time.
But to know that you're the best player and you
are just gonna walk into Canton, I can't imagine the
feeling of that. And and I think Joe the reason

(01:43:58):
he retired UM is everything that was was. It was
something that athletes deal with all the time, is that
mentally you're ready to go. I was still mentally ready
to play. I liked the process. I like getting ready.
I like going to facility, like learning, I like watching film.
I liked all that. I like being around my teammates.
But your body just can't do it anymore. And Joe
had had even though he had not missed a snap

(01:44:18):
until this year when he towards Triestep, He's had knee surgeries,
back surgeries, He's had issues and just getting ready to
physically play every day. When you have a body like that,
UM is mentally draining and then physically you just can't
do it. You're in too much pain. UM and that's
why guys were tired more often than not. I mean
he could have. He mentioned this in his in his

(01:44:38):
Tomahawk and his podcast with him and Andrew Hawkins like day.
You know, he was talking about just playing in seventeen
was was was hard enough for him. He know, he
doesn't really practice in camp, doesn't practice on Wednesday's, barely
practice Thursdays, and then just gets ready to play Sunday.
And eventually the grind that getting your body ready just
becomes too much. So I'm glad he called it quits
on his own terms. He probably could have tried to

(01:45:00):
come back for another year and maybe played through some pain.
But I commend him for being the ultimate pro um.
You know, there were times when I when the Browns
looked to trade him and he said no because he
just wanted to stay in Cleveland and and be part
of a rebuild, which you never really happened for him.
I think he won forty nine games in eleven years,
which is quite remarkable, made the playoffs one year with

(01:45:20):
Derek Anderson. Um and uh excellent career. And the last
point about Johnny and I know I've been going on
for a while now is um. I think it's very
important to have a mentor in any business, um and
in the NFL as well. And I think we hear
horror stories about rookies being um you know, being uh
hazed and not being accepted. I find that I found

(01:45:43):
that not to be the case. In Carolina, Jordan Gross,
who I think he's five years older than me, and
then Ryan Kleil, who who's just a year older than me.
Both of them took me under their wings, especially Jordan's
and just really taught me how to be a pro tommy,
how to watch film Tommy, how to prepare Tommy, how
to lift you know weights properly, what I should be
doing the a room, how I should be preparing because
his offensive lineman, you know you do things differently, you

(01:46:03):
know you you have to train a certain way to
get ready to go. And just being someone I could
always talk to and lean on and ask advice and
not just on the field avice, off the field advice.
And Joe did that from my brother. Um. You know,
Joe calls my brother, you know, his little like his
little brother, UM. And my brother needed it more than
I did. He needed someone, um that he could talk to,

(01:46:25):
someone that could help him out. And my brother is
so advanced. Um. His intelligence is just he's so smart
and Joe is the same way. And they were a
perfect match as far as being able to talk football
and talk life. And I just so appreciate Joe for
taking my brother under his wings. It's so it's so important.
I just appreciate what he did from my brother. So
that's just kind of a personal side of of Joe

(01:46:47):
Thomas as a fantastic guy. And I know how much
he meant to my brother. They're still best friends. They
talk all the time. UM. And you know, he didn't
have to do that. He didn't have to take my
brother his wings. He did, And I don't know if
my brother would be he has in his career with
al Joe Thomas. That's awesome. It really is. Also, and
we'll go to Eddie Garcia here in just a second.
The idea that Joe Thomas is talking about Canton and

(01:47:10):
knowing that he's gonna get in understanding how good he
was playing his entire career with the Browns. Can you
imagine like being that good and knowing that, Yeah, I
know I played in Cleveland. I know I won forty
nine games in eleven years, but I'm a first ballot
Hall of Famer. That is talent, that's incredible. Let's bring
in Eddie Garcia find out what happened last night and

(01:47:31):
what's to come today in the world of sports. Eddie. Alright, guys,
We're gonna start with news from the NFL and quarterback
news where A J. McCarron agrees on a two year
deal with the Buffalo Bills. Meanwhile, the Vikings are looking
for a backup quarterback to the soon to be signed
Kirk Cousins and their finalizing a trade with the never
Broncos for Trevor Simeon. Arizona Cardinals are signing quarterback Mike
Glenn into a two year, eight million dollar deal after

(01:47:51):
he was released by the Chicago Bears. And the n
c Double Men's Basketball Tournament we had the final two
playing games. Syracuse gets by Arizona stage sixty to fifty six.
The Orange advanced to face six seeded TCU Syracuse the
eleventh seed, and Texas Southern, who started the year oh
en thirteen to beat North Carolina Central sixty four to
forty six, and sixteen seeded Tigers are gonna face the

(01:48:12):
number one seeded Xavier NBA Game of the night, double
overtime in Boston. Wizards good by the Celtics four. The Warriors,
without Steph Curry, Clay Thompson or Draymond Green due to injury,
still beat the Lakers one seventeen to one oh six.
His report is brought to you by True Car online
car shop. You can be confusing, but not anymore. With
True Price from Truecar now you can know the exact
price you'll pay for your next car. So if there's

(01:48:33):
a True Car and enjoy more confident car buying experience.
Think you guys touched on it earlier. But Tiger Woods
is underway going on right now in Orlando. It's the
Arnold Palmer Invitational entire of course, coming off that second
place finished last week at the Valves Part Championship. Everybody
gonna be keeping an eye on him and his first
round just getting underway as he is out on the
course there in Orlando. Appreciate it. Anyone's talk to you tomorrow.

(01:48:57):
We'll come and see you live from the geikel Outkicks Studios.
It's easy to say or more on car insurance with Geico,
go to Geico dot com or call eight hundred and
nine four seven Auto the only hard part figuring out
which way is easier. Clay Travis is in Las Vegas.
I'm Jason Martin is executive producer at j mart OutKick
Not Fired yet, along with Jeff Schwartz at g e

(01:49:17):
O F F. Schwartz on Twitter. If you want to
follow him, and if you don't follow him, don't expect
him to see your tweets. A matter of fact, if
you don't follow me, don't expect me to see your tweets. Anyway,
you might be able to follow Justin Cooper at u
H Bronco Fan or at Danny G Radio. I don't
know if they have those those filters on their Twitter
accounts or not. But Jeff has changed my life with
the way he has told me to approach my social

(01:49:39):
media existence. So let's get back and talk college basketball.
That's the biggest story today. A lot of free agency. Obviously,
will continue to break all that down tomorrow on the
show is Jeff and I will be back in for
Clay for one more day to finish out the week.
But let's start to pivot and start to talk about
some of these games and how you have this situated. Jeff.
You have you have money, you said on all the

(01:50:01):
eleven seeds? Is that what you said off the off
the start of the show. Yes, And is that for
a reason, Like do you just assume a couple of
those are gonna hit and that's gonna be enough? Is that?
Is that kind of how you're playing it? Yeah? If
you if you bet them to win on the money line,
so you you get plus odds, you end up actually
probably making money in the end. Um. So let me

(01:50:23):
have it right here. Um, elevens are are eleven and
ninth straight up the last five years, um against the spread.
So so you be you're able to um, you're able
to get a profit. I think I took all the
elevens and all the twelves, uh, and just you know,
five bucks on each one and ended up, Um, just

(01:50:43):
letting it right and see what happens. So who do
you have in your final four? Uh? Let's see here
I have let me pull this up here, I have
I have Arizona. Um, what would that be out of
the South because of virginia inability to score points and
also just they're injured. And I think Arizona when you

(01:51:05):
have an eight, and who's that talented? He's got I
think he can carry you in the tournament. We we've
seen very often one player, one one, one exceptional player
be able to carry UM someone through a term. I
got North Carolina coming out of the West other. Really
only reason is because I just grew up like in
North Carolina and I kind of always picked them, UM
and they're not a bad way to go UM just
for fun and really, like I said, no, the reason

(01:51:28):
the East, I have Texas Tech. I watched him play
a couple of times this year. I watched him beat
actually and I actually lost one of the games I watched.
They lost to Canvas on one of the games I watched.
But nonetheless, I actually have them playing Wichita State in
the lead eight. I don't know why, just because why
not have some fun with that UM which I was
actually is not even really as good as they have

(01:51:49):
been in the past. But I have them anyways in
the lead eight. And then I got Duke coming out
of the of the Midwest region. I have Duke Auburn
in the lead eight. UM, I don't even know why
you pay attention to me. And I have Duke Texas
Tech and in Arizona and U n C in an
U n C. Playing Duke in the final, which would
make everyone where I live in Charlotte um either happy
or upset about that matchup or both. Yeah, I mean,

(01:52:12):
I think it'd be really cool with something that I
think everybody would like to see happen in a championship game,
for sure. Danny, have you finished your bracket? Are you
willing to share your expertise? Before we got a breakad? So?
I haven't finished it, but I did finish all the
games that are going down today. Alright, a couple of upsets.
I also have a couple of number eleven's. Now, before

(01:52:33):
I say what they are, I want to apologize to Florida.
I love you and wish you nothing but big bags
of money the size of Labrador retrievers. With that said,
I have the Bonnies upsetting Florida. They're shooting from three
point range. I think they're gonna go off and catch
fire with the threes. So I got them over Florida.

(01:52:56):
And then Miami is going to be upset Loyola. The
Ramblers play some six defense, so I have them upsetting
number six Miami. How many Loyola of Chicago games have
you seen this year? Absolutely? Zero? All I just wanted
to just want to get that out there. I've got
I've got both of those as well, and I've got
some twelves. I don't know if I have all the twelves,

(01:53:17):
but I definitely have two or three of the twelves
winning over the fives. So you don't have like a
final four. Do you have a champion? No? No, no,
because I just wanted to get you know, the games
down that are happening today, and then when the show's over,
I'm gonna fill out the rest of my bracket, take
a pick of it and put it on my Twitter. Okay,
fair enough. Uh Mine is similar, at least in a

(01:53:38):
couple of ways to what Jeff has. I've got three
of his teams. I've got Arizona and North Carolina on
the left side of the bracket in the South and
West matchup in the final four, and then I've got
Nova getting there. They've been I arguably the most consistent
team other than Virginia. But Virginia losing who they lost
is why I can't pick them anymore. I would have
picked them to win it all, I believe. But I've

(01:53:59):
got Nova and I've got them beating Texas Tech I've
got Texas Tech actually going pretty deep as well. They're
a really good defensive team. I just don't think they've
got enough to beat Villanova. And then I've got Nova
playing Duke and Duke in Arizona in the final game
and Duke winning it. I just have a feeling. I
know that that Ayton is a beast. I know that

(01:54:20):
Duke can be a little bit inconsistent, But if they're
playing at top FOM, I don't know that anybody can
beat them. If Bagley is on a roll, if Alan
is hitting shots at Gary Trent Jr. Is hitting shots,
if when del Carter is playing the way you would
expect him to play. I just think that Duke is
built to win this tournament. They could be built to
lose in the first weekend as well. Who knows. We

(01:54:40):
got one more segment to go. I'll kick the coverage
Fox Sports Radio. What does it mean when Geico says
just fifteen minutes could save you fifteen cent or more
on car insurance? It means you probably should have gone
to Geico dot com fifteen minutes ago. And once again,
if you think of train is gonna stop if it
sees your car on the tracks. You're right, it will
about a mile after it hits you stop. Please trains can't.

(01:55:02):
I'll kick the coverage. Clay is in Vegas. He's back
on Monday. I'm Jason Martin in with Jeff Schwartz, Danny
g Justin Cooper out in l A. He spending the
dollars radio style for us out there. We got some
pretty great audio. We're gonna try and play for you
here before the end of the show. End with a
couple of fun things. Ron Hunter, the coach at Georgia State,
had just a fantastic press conference talking about his matchup

(01:55:22):
with Cincinnati and how he's trying to motivate his team
in the comparisons he's making between Cincinnati and Georgia State.
If you have not heard this, it's gonna make your day.
So we're gonna play that. How is your day? Said, Oh,
we do have the audio, all right, let's go ahead
and play that. This is absolutely fantastic. Ron Hunter is
the coach at Georgia State. They're matched up in a
two fifteen matchup with Cincinnati. A lot of people have
Cincinnati in their final four, but listen to how he

(01:55:45):
frames this matchup. It's incredible. What college athletics should be
about is what's happening at Georgia State. Not all this
FBI stuff and all this other stuff. It's about these
guys right here. He didn't McDonald's. You know the you know,
you know what they told us today that Cincinnati gets
to stay at the Hyatt, gotta stay at Conferty, and
Cincinnati gets eating, Ruth Chris, we gotta eat at Wendy's.
But when it comes Friday at two o'clock, we're gonna

(01:56:06):
be ready. We're gonna be ready to play. And so
I can guarantee you that that's fantastic. Jeff Ruth Chris
versus Wendy's, Cincinnati versus Georgia State. I don't thinkin Nanty's
eat Ruth Chris, I'm mean qua us about that, But
sure I understand his point of that. Yes, that's it's
good stuff. I think I would. I don't know Wendy's.
There's nothing wrong with Wendy's. Oh I thought you're about

(01:56:29):
to say something about how you know that the son
of a bacon eat is good. I'm not saying Wendy's
is bad. I think wend He's good. I'm just saying
that of course I would, and Ruth Chris is not
my favorite steakhouse either, so I actually might pass on
Ruth Chris to go to Wendy's. What's the problem with
rus Chris? I don't know. I just I don't like this.

(01:56:51):
I don't like you very much. I'd rather go to
like a Mastros or Del Frisco, then uh go to
Ruth Chris. I don't like Fleming's really either, So just
like kind of chain big time steak restaurants not really
for you? Well, the Frisco's is a chain, Masters is
a smaller chain. Um, I don't know, man, I just

(01:57:12):
I don't Every time I go there, I feel underwhelmed
with the food. I don't. I don't know why that is,
and I haven't been quite a couple of years. I
couldn't pinpoint the reason for you. I have no idea.
Hopefully they're not a sponsor of this show. So how
does your day stack up? Jeff? How how are you
gonna enjoy these games? How many screens are you gonna
have a laptop open? Do you have multiple screens in

(01:57:33):
your whatever room? And is you're gonna be watching? How
are you gonna do this? I have seven hours of
radio today, so my goal is to stay awake through
all of it. Okay, I will have I will have
I don't know if that's a brag. That's a lot
of radio. UM. I will have my iPad, at least
my iPad. UM. I'll download the app we can watch

(01:57:56):
all the games from and then I might have a
little bit of my computer as well. But there's really
no team. I mean, uh, I'm trying to put the
schedule here. When is some of these UM like don't
like I'll start caring about games. I put some money
on Pens that's at two o'clock against Kansas, so I'll
watch that. I'll probably start watching that. UM and I

(01:58:18):
put some money on loll Over Miami, so I'll watch
that game. That's a three thirty. But I pay my
kids up then. Um, Arizona is not untill nine forty tonight,
I mean that's I'll probably out before that. So yeah, not,
I mean, I'll watch them, but there's not really a
lot of games I'm looking forward. I was looking forward
to watching Arizona. I'll tell you what Davidson in Kentucky
is that is at seven tend to night. I'll watch

(01:58:39):
that while I'm doing radio tonight. Okay, Danny, how are
you watching these games? As soon as I wake up,
I gotta squeeze in like four or five hours of
sleep and then yeah, I don't know how your sleep
schedule works, and obviously with us in the morning that's different,
but you have to do Ben show before, so I
don't know, like when you generally try and sleep, usually
wake up around one pm West Coast time, so you'll

(01:59:01):
probably miss like the first set of games. Can then
kind of be stumbling through. All right. We will discuss
those games tomorrow in detail. Hopefully a lot of upsets
to talk about, maybe brackets that are already destroyed, have
fun with the basketball. We'll talk about it tomorrow and
I'll kick the coverage
