(01:20):
up fast that the finalists have been announced.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
This is also an.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
NFC Championship and AFC Championship weekend. We will get to
those topics, but we're gonna start with this NFL Awards deal.
I got kind of a theory on it, all right,
since I got the opportunity to have the mic, and
I'm not sharing it with TJ and Plex. They they
are handling family business. Obviously, sons and daughters are doing
(01:46):
very well in athletics, so they.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Are moving around.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
But I want to talk about this trickle down effect
that's going to come from the NFL Awards this year.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Now we're hearing all of the odds makers put out
there for the MVP of the Year, the NFL MVP
that you have the top guys being, obviously Josh Allen,
Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley. Now they put out the other
awards and we'll highlight those. We'll get to Offensive Player
(02:20):
of the Award at around in twenty twenty minutes or so,
we'll get to that, and we'll get to the rest
of awards around like, yeah, thirty minutes or so from
now Coach of the Year and the end of the hour.
But for now, let's talk about the MVP award, because respectfully,
I got to say this, if it's not going to
(02:41):
a quarterback, which we understand why it goes to the quarterback,
and I'll get to that at the end of my
my thought here, but if it's going to the person
off of pure merit, off of what this all represents,
it's got.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
To be Saquon Barkley. And if there were a.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Debate to say that there were an MVP outside of
Sakwon Barkley that should get it, I think you got
to go with Lamar Jackson on this one. And it's
purely based upon huh, knowing that all of these guys
are most valuable to their teams. But if we're talking
about most Valuable player in the league, then all things given,
(03:23):
all of these finalists have met the criteria of being
the MVP of the league and of their team. So
what differentiates them?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Right?
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Let me think about this, Right, I thought about it.
I put it down and it was like, you got
to look at it from this perspective, right, sa Kwon
Barkley would have should have could have broke the coveted
forty year old record held by Eric Dickerson. That's the
single season rushing record. Now, when you think about it,
(03:54):
we're talking about an award for a single season. So
how would it be possible? How would it be possible
in a league where football Keep in mind, they promote
what teamwork? What else did they promote? They promote camaraderie,
They promote sacrifice and service and selflessness, all these strong
(04:16):
values and beliefs that the NFL has built their reputation on.
If that's the case, all things given, don't we look
at Sakuon Barkley not breaking the record as being more
impactful than him.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Breaking the records? Right?
Speaker 4 (04:35):
And if I'm a voter, do not have to look
at this in terms of what Saquon Barkley could have
accomplished in this season had he not been a selfless person.
It just made me think about it. Right, You get
to the point of where you see a player basically
(04:57):
exercise in the moment of truth. His teammate's success, his
team's success, his community's success were more to him than
his own personal success. His efforts are the reason why
the Philadelphia Eagles are in this game tomorrow. His numbers
(05:18):
state the truth. The fact of the matter is he
put this team on his back and their success has
run through them. So when you look at a most
valuable player of the league, everything everything that is connected to,
say Kwon Barkley screams the most valuable player in this league.
(05:42):
In fact, why Yata, why don't you throw out there
the Walter Payton Man of the Year. Who else has
served their team, their community and the league in the
way that Sakwon Barkley has in the most flattering manner.
He has done everything correctly. This is not me being
(06:05):
a Saquon Barkley apologist.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
This is not me.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
You know, everybody knows he's a Penn Stater. I'm a
Penn Stater. This is not me being a pro biased
Penn State former football player ringing the bell for Sakuon Barkley.
All I'm saying is, just take a good look at
it when you think about it, if it's not Sakuon Barkley, Because.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
How would a voter.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
Not vote for Sakuon Barkley had he broke that forty
year old record.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
You can't do it.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
You cannot justify one of the greatest records in the
history of football. That would be like justifying not giving
a quarterback who broke the single season season passing record the.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
MVP of the league. It doesn't work that way.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
And to that point, we'll get into some stats and
you know, we'll back it up with some numbers.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
To that point, if it's not going.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
To Sakuon bark if the award does not go to
Sakuon Barkley, then why would it not go to one
or two other players? And this is no shade to
Josh Allen, but why would the most Valuable Player of
the league not go to one Lamar Jackson or one
(07:21):
Joe Burrow. That's right, Joe Burrow's name isn't even on
the final list list. Do you realize that Joe Burrow
through for more yards than Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson?
Do you realize that Joe Burrow threw for more touchdowns
than Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Most would say most
(07:45):
would debate the struggles of the Cincinnati Bengals was purely
based upon their inability to stop an offense from scoring points.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I don't think.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Anyone would come to the table and say it was
not because of some of the most brilliant, stellar play
at the quarterback position by one Joe Burrow. His quarterback
rating was oneh eight. And we'll get into all of
that because you know, this is real interesting because there's
a trickle down effect on these awards because well, and
(08:21):
what seemingly is going to develop into who's going to
get what awards. We saw that Josh Allen's name wasn't
included an Offensive Player of the Year. Hint hint, spoiler alert.
His name was not included. So you get the idea
that Josh Allen's going to win the MVP of the
League award, and then it's going to fall down on well, well,
(08:45):
we'll talk about in the next segment. Sakwon Barkley will
win the Offensive Player of the Year award, which is
a Constellation prize, a consolation prize to winning the MVP
award as the league's MVP. And then we'll get into
who I believe should win that award. But we'll get
(09:06):
up to the end. Like I said, Noon twelve twenty,
for all of all on the East Coast, it's just
I wanted to give you guys a thought process here,
like something to think on if we're going with a
quarterback because obviously it's more important. It's not the meritocracy
of how you play the game at the league level.
(09:28):
It's all about driving the value all the way up
as high as you can behind one singular position in
the league, and that's the quarterbacks position. So at some
point there has to be an admission of this is
a quarterbacks award, not a league wide award. We don't
(09:48):
see defenders being in the mix of winning the award.
Even though we have had, you know, a guy like
the likes of Lawrence Taylor win the award before, we
have not seen any defenders make any real appearances on
the list, and you don't see any other player besides
quarterbacks win the award, which is very interesting because then
you make the de facto award the offensive player of
(10:11):
the year. It's like everybody else you could get this award,
but the MVP of the league belongs with the quarterback.
I feel like it would make more sense to just
tell your listening and viewing audience that that's what it is,
so we can stop having these debates, because it seems
silly to have to debate something that was accomplished by
(10:31):
Sakwon Barkley in this particular moment, in this instance where
the greatness of what he brought to this season you
may not see for another what forty years, thirty years,
you may not see this brilliance happen again, And yet
it won't be rewarded properly in the way that it
(10:54):
should be rewarded, which is being deemed the most valuable
NFL player in the league. That's my take on it,
and well, you know, you can agree, you could disagree.
I got the microphone, so it doesn't matter. It's my take,
and we get to run with it. That is the
first segment down. It's in the books. We're gonna take
a quick break, and on the other side of the break,
(11:16):
we're gonna talk about, Yeah, Saquan is gonna win the
Offensive Player of the Year award, but the question is
should he who should win it, and why they should
win it? And I just tell you this spoiler alert,
it ain't Josh Allen either. So the MVP of the league,
perceivably that's gonna be crowned and named this year, shouldn't
(11:37):
even be the Offensive Player of the Year. And I'm
gonna tell you why. On the other side of this break,
it's up on Game. I'm LeVar Arrington, TJ and Plex
are out.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
That's all right.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
I'm gonna carry you for the next two hours. Stay
locked in, stay tuned in. We'll talk a little bit
more football.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
On the other side of this break.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
All right, welcome back into the show. This is up
on Game. We are alive from the tyraq dot Com studio.
LeVar Arrington. I will be carrying you by myself today
because the fellas are handling some family matters. So good
(12:15):
luck and enjoy all those those things that y'all got
going on in the sporting world and the sporting community.
And speaking of sporting community, we're going to keep this
trickle down effect going, the NFL awards trickle down effect.
We'll get to the rest of the awards and just
maybe ten minutes or so, we'll say we'll call in,
then we'll talk Coach of the Year to in out
(12:37):
the hour, and then we'll get into these NFL previews
that I'm sure everybody's really excited to see and watch.
But let's talk about Saquon Barkley. All Right, we said
he should win. I say he should win the NFL
MVP Awards. So now how does that play a part
in the Offensive Player of the Year award. Obviously I
believe my pick. So so far my pick for NFL
(13:00):
MVP is going to be Josh Allen. Then the trickle
down effect because Saquon Barkley does not get what he
should get in getting the MVP of the League, he
gets the Offensive Player of the Year award, which is
now very interesting because everything is now topsy turvy in
terms of who really should get these awards because now
(13:21):
you have the MVP of the Award of the Year
getting the Offensive Player of the Year award, which now
knocks out three other guys that should be getting this
award should be in debate, up for debate who gets
this award in particular, and it does not include Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Where am I going with this?
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, who I just mentioned in the
first first segment.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
And Derrick Henry.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Okay, so now you look at these three Sakuan's going
to take that. So three of those guys they will
not get at that award. So why do I say Henry,
Why do I say Jackson? Why do I say Burrow
and not Josh Allen? Well, think about this, both, Lamar
Jackson and Joe Burrow had better years than Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Josh Allen's passer rating.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
One oh one point four, Joe Burrow's one oh eight
point five, Lamar Jackson's one nineteen point six. That's a
high passer rating. That's super impressive. Oh. Culminated with four thousand,
one hundred and seventy two yards and forty one touchdowns
(14:40):
to Josh Allen's three thousand, seven hundred and thirty one
yards and twenty eight touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
That's a very very real difference. Oh. By the way,
Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Four thousand, nine hundred and eighteen yards and forty three tds,
talk to me, because I'm trying to understand it. The
only reason why Lamar Jackson stands up to Joe Burrow
for the award would be because of Lamar Jackson's nine
(15:15):
hundred and fifteen rushing yards during the course of the season.
Nine hundred and fifteen rushing yards as a quarterback. Now,
where does Dereck Henry come into the scenario here? Because
I think Derrick Henry should be strongly considered for the award.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
He ran for.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Nineteen one hundred and twenty one yards in the A
FC North.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
If you don't know what that means, check it out.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Forty one touchdowns or excuse me, excuse me, not forty
one touchdowns because that's that's uh Lamar Jackson. But in
terms of touchdowns he had eighteen in seventeen games. So
when I look at the impact of Derrick Henry on
this Baltimore Ravens offense, one would say, your first read
(16:08):
has to be one run against the Baltimore Ravens. Which
now that is not the case across the league. This
is a pass first league. So the first thing you
have to do in this game against this team is
you have to play the run. The second thing you
have to do is you have to pinpoint who is
(16:30):
the biggest threat upon reading the run. That's going to
be Derrik Henry. You may think it's Lamar Jackson, but
it ain't. It's Derrick Henry. And that moment of trying
to figure out is Derek Henry getting the ball on
(16:50):
that RPO play and Lamar Jackson pulls it out and
goes down the field and gets up to nine hundred
just shy of thousands, just north of one thousand yards rushing.
I would have to say this being Lamar Jackson's best
year statistically in total yards, going over five thousand yards
(17:16):
in total yards. This is a direct and I mean
a direct result of Derrick Henry's presence on this team.
Five eighty seven yards it was. Now, if you're telling
me that they get that Lamar Jackson impacts his team
(17:39):
with that amount of yards without Derrick Henry on the roster,
I'd say it's a foolish assertion. But when you look
at the impact that Dereck Henry was able to have
on this team and the success he was able to have,
that to me makes it a very very strong case
(18:00):
for him to be up for the Offensive Player of
the Year award. There's no doubt about it. There's no
doubt about it. So if it's not Lamar Jackson in
the phenomenal year that he had statistically, which we'll say
is based upon the arrival and the participation of Derrick Henry,
(18:21):
if it's not Lamar Jackson, then it has to be
Joe Burrow. You cannot hold Joe Burrow accountable fully for
a defense that gave up more touchdowns than you could
shake a stick at. In him trying to win games,
(18:42):
his defense did not hold up the bargain for him.
So we're going to continue to trickle down effect, right
because at the end of the day, we'll get to
Joe Burrow. He is going to get an award. He
is going to get an award. I believe he'll get
an award, and we'll talk about that because it's a
part of the rest of the awards. Yeah, but Saquon
(19:02):
Barkley will win the Offensive Player of the Year award,
that is for certain. And why you wouldn't include Josh
Allen and Jared Gov's name in the final list lists
versus putting you know, Chase and putting you know obviously
Saquon and Derrick Henry. I just think that I don't know,
(19:26):
it's confusing if you ask me, it just comes across
as a tap bit confusing because ultimately the most valuable
player on the offensive side of the ball, Well, I
just highlighted.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
It for you.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
If you were looking at it from a stats standpoint,
then it should be Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow. If
we're looking at it from a total stats standpoint in
terms of the assistance and the amount of success that
this player had and what that did to impact another
player that played at such a high level and put
up such high numbers, and you got to look at
Derek Henry as the clear favorite to be the most
(20:04):
impactful if not Saquon Barkley. And the only reason why
I would say not Saquon Barkley is because obviously I
felt like he should win the larger award, which now
brings you back to the original point of aren't you
trying to figure out how josh Allen is going to
be the National Football Player of the Year, the MVP?
(20:26):
I know I am? I know I am, because there's
nothing that says outside of a totally subjective approach, a
total emotional approach, to why Josh Allen should win. There
really is nothing that is in favor of him outside
of what would be considered to be an emotional investment
(20:50):
as to why this young man should win the award.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
I don't know. I think I do.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
I think that's a pretty good take on it, because well,
I feel like the facts kind of stay out on
their own.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
He's the third.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
Best statistically by quarterback rating this year, third best to
Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson terms in those categories we're
speaking of, So I don't know, so are we considering
Josh a better leader than Joe Burrow or Lamar Jackson.
Are we looking at the record and saying that the
(21:23):
record because that doesn't distinguish it either. What are we
looking at that sets Josh Allen apart to be the
MVP of the league? And I think that that's the
question that well, you'll have to answer on your own.
But he nonetheless is my pick for the MVP of
the league, and Sakwon Barkley will be your Offensive Player
(21:44):
of the Year. We'll get to the rest of the awards,
Comeback Player, Defensive Player, Offensive Rookie, Defensive Rookie. We'll get
to those on the other side of this break. But
let's get a trending from our guy, Isaac Lohingcrow. How
you doing, sir? Do I sound crazy?
Speaker 1 (21:58):
I low? Or do I mean like I'm making some
vallid points here?
Speaker 5 (22:02):
You sound crazy most of the time, but actually not.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Like that, Oh dann, so try harder.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
So how do you like flying solo?
Speaker 1 (22:10):
That's cool, it's cool.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
It gives me an opportunity to kind of say what's
on my mind a little bit and get a little
bit more deeper in the weeds. You know, get off
of the surface a little bit.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
You know you're doing great. I'm joining it.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Oh, I appreciate it, man.
Speaker 6 (22:23):
And you were right when you texted me earlier today
that PLAQUESAICO and TJ are dead weight.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Damn yeah, how about it? How about it?
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Just kidding guys, I.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Did not say that, fellas, I know, I know I
did not say that.
Speaker 5 (22:36):
I mean, they know you'd never text me.
Speaker 7 (22:40):
All right, let's start.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Give me your number. Man, that's a connection over on
on National radio.
Speaker 5 (22:45):
That's a good point.
Speaker 6 (22:46):
I mean, we're like Facebook, we're Facebook friends, right because
I see you posting every five minutes about your Penn Staker.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
There you go, love it about Penn State.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
Well well, with good reason, with good reason.
Speaker 6 (22:57):
Hey, we had a great story in the Australian Open
Ladies earlier today, American Madison Keys winning her first career
grand slamming upset fashion over world number one Arena Sablenka.
Here is how match points sounded on Australian Open Radio.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Sabelenka is ready, says case.
Speaker 7 (23:16):
Coach with the big backhand picks up on the hot
folly by Sabelenka, huge hole hand from Keys well defended.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
She's done it.
Speaker 7 (23:28):
The Lone Races Ova to Madison Kys. She is the
Australian Open.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Champion in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (23:35):
On Friday night, the Dallas Cowboys hired offensive coordinator Brian
Schottenheimer as their new head.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
Coach, put me in coach.
Speaker 6 (23:43):
NFL media report Schottenheimer is receiving a four year contract.
I've been thinking about it alta shower.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
I'll just take your word for it there, Jerry.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
I don't have the patience to jack with you today.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Get out of here.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Am I still on line?
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Anyway?
Speaker 6 (23:58):
The San Francisco forty nine ers mean on Friday and night,
had hired former Jets head coach Robert Sala for his
second stint as their defensive coordinator. So only one head
coaching opening remains in the NFL, that being the New
Orleans Saints. LeVar back to you.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Appreciate it a loo? All right?
Speaker 4 (24:16):
That's an interesting update. There's some nice little sound effects
you had there.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
Rest of the awards all right? So here comes the
continued on trickle down effect. Who do we believe should
get the Comeback Player of the Year award?
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Do you wanna? Do you want to take a stab
at it? Perfect?
Speaker 4 (24:33):
Do you want take a stab at it, bo do
you do? You guys want to take a stab at
who should get the Comeback Player of the Year.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
Somebody? Yeah, Sam Darnell.
Speaker 8 (24:46):
I think I think that's pretty much the answer at
this point. Like the Sam Darnald considering how written off
his career had been, and I look, we we understand
Week eighteen and in the playoffs after that was bad,
But I don't think that erasist seventeen good games of
performance from him.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
Yeah, especially since the voting is not supposed to count
for the postseason, regular season just supposed to be taking
a consideration. I'm biased, but I would like to throw
in a vote, even though I don't think he's nest
throw in JK.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
Dobbins.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Hmm, that's an interesting one.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
You know who I think is going to receive this
award as a as a just kind of adore prize,
because you know what, why would we not give you
any awards when you had an amazing, an amazing, amazing season.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Think about it, Joe Burrow should be considered the comeback
Player of the Year and should receive the ward. And
if he does get it, if I am right, it's
the losers. It's the losers a bonus award for the year.
So now you've taken Comeback Player of the Year and
you made it, you made it like a joke. Because
(25:57):
Joe Burrow should be in the mix for these other awards.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
He's not going to get it.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
So if you're going to give him the Comeback Player
of the War because he did come back and he
did ball his ass off this year, then now you've
bumped one Sam Darnold back, which I guess you could
call him a comeback. He's considered it, he's on the list,
he's considered to be a comeback player. I mean, I
guess he's coming back from being a bench warmer. I'm
not really sure what he's coming back from. Do you
guys know what exactly what he's coming back from, because
(26:22):
I don't really know what he's coming back from. Yeah,
I don't know either. And so with that being said,
I almost feel like you gotta go with Joe Burrow
as your comeback Player of the Year. He came back,
he played well, and his numbers don't lie. So I
tend to look at where Joe Burrow is and what
(26:44):
he's been able to accomplish and I feel like he
should be the hands down favored to get it.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Now.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
I don't even think he's on there. I don't even
think he's up for consideration. But that's my that's my opinion.
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Is he on there? Is he on the list?
Speaker 9 (27:00):
Joe Burrow on the Lissa, Yes he is, Actually it is.
It's Burrow Donald Dobbins.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Which there you go.
Speaker 7 (27:11):
The Hamlin's a very interesting one.
Speaker 8 (27:13):
I feel like they're just going to keep putting his
name in there until he eventually wins one.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
But hmm, interesting I find out to be interesting. I mean,
there's certainly to me, there's no Sam Darnald is the
only one on the list that I would say stands
up to Joe Burrow. And if Joe Burrow is up
for a different award and is able to possibly some
(27:40):
way win it, then it should go to Sam Darnald.
But if Joe Burrow doesn't get any of the other
awards above that one, I think that it goes to
Joe Burrow. That's what I think.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
It's the Loser's Award this year is the Comeback Player.
Speaker 8 (27:55):
I believe they had changed some of the wording on
comeback Player of the Year too. It just had to
be returning to sport after injury, illness or other circumstances.
Speaker 7 (28:04):
So I think in that case, Burrow is the one
who kind of.
Speaker 8 (28:07):
Fits that mold the best, definitely more than Sam Donald,
because I guess by that definition, nothing really there is
Sam Darnald overcoming.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
He's just overcoming, you know, being a backup. Stuck. Yeah,
stuck in in in a QB purgatory for so long.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah, a backup is what it is.
Speaker 7 (28:26):
Okay, he was haunted, Yeah, he's haunted.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
He was.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
He was saying, No, that's why Autumn Picks was taking place.
Casper was taking it. It was swiping him. All right,
Let's move on to defensive player of the year. All right,
Defensive player of the year. It's obviously between Watt and
Certain the second. Here's why I say it's hard to
go with Pat certain the second, even though his his
season has been brilliant, all right, because it's just hard
(28:53):
it's hard to to monetize or or not monetize, but
kind of quantify how big of an impact he had.
I know that the numbers say, you know, the fifty
percent lower than sixty percent when quarterbacks go his way,
and you know he takes away your best receiver.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
It's hard.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
It's hard to look at it when it doesn't show
up all the way in the stats.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
If you guys know what I mean, Like.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Four interceptions doesn't scream you had the type.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Of year that.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Would call for you to be the defensive rookie of
the year. There have been plenty of dbs, you know,
Champ Bailey comes to mind, there have been a Darrel
Reeves comes to mind. There have been guys that have
locked down and shut down sides of a field to
help their team. It's just hard to put where the
(29:50):
value of it is.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
How high do you take it up?
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Whereas when I look at what JJ Watt has done,
fourteen tackles for a loss is cool razy. That's a
crazy statistic because in reality, you can count a tackle
for a loss. It's no different than a sack. You've
put stress and the rest on the offense by stopping
(30:13):
them behind their own line of scrimmage. Not to mention
what you got to be doing as a player, especially
a highlighted player like TJ Watt and being able to
get to the ball carrier in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
It's kind of crazy. And his sack totals.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Sack totals are super high.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
I mean, he's double digits. Guy.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
I just don't I just don't know how you can
take and say, well, he locked down there one receiver.
They didn't throw the ball his way much, but when
they did, they didn't do very well when they threw
it his way. Oh, but he only had four interceptions.
I think his interception totals needed to be higher if
(30:55):
it was going to be a legitimate He's getting it
over what TJ.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Watt has done.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
So if I'm picking for Defense Player of the Year,
I look at TJ. Watt and I say he's got
to be the one that wins it. Unless you were
looking at pat Certain and the turnaround of this Denver
Broncos team, and you're saying the sole catalyst of why
this team turned around the way that it did and
was able to accomplish at the level that it did
was based upon Patricks Certain's influence on the whole team,
(31:25):
which I mean that would be up for debate. Obviously,
Rookie of the Year for offense, no debate there. Jaydon
Daniels is the guy that's going to get it. He's
the most deserving of it, and he's he turned out
to be what appears to be the generational talent that's
come out in the last few drafts at the quarterbacks position.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
It looks as though he's just different.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
And for that, I mean, I think it's a foregone
conclusion that you look at Jayden and Daniels.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
As you're a rookie of the year. Can somebody else
argue it?
Speaker 9 (31:57):
I mean, Jayden Daniel's gonna win plenty of deserving. That's
I think. When a rookie comes in and is immediately
the best player at their position, okay, their name should
be mentioned more. Okay, I think it's Brock Bowers, to
be honest with.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
You, Brock Bowers is a great name, not qu a quarterback.
Speaker 9 (32:16):
Tighten in football already is a rookie. I think if
Jaydon Daniels didn't win twelve games this year, you'd see
a lot more steam for Brock Powers. But I think
he deserves a little more shine than he's gonna get
given given the Daniels is gonna run away with this reward.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
I mean, I don't have any any problem with Brock
Bowers being a name that's thrown out there and debate it,
but nonetheless, it's Jaydon Daniels. It's Jaydon Daniels by a landslide,
not even close now, but one that isn't a landslide
and will be close.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Who wins Defensive Rookie of the Year? Is it Fisk
or is it Verse? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
Fisk had more sacks, Verse had more tackles. Who had
more impact? It's hard to say. It's hard to say,
but wow, you had both of them on the same team,
which is pretty cool. I think if I gotta go
with it and make a hard decision on what I
really really feel based off of impact, it's gotta be Fisk.
(33:14):
It's gotta be Fisk that gets it because to do
what he is able to do, be as versatile as
he is, the impact that he's brought to that defensive
line I think is probably unmatched even by Verse along
the entire throughout the entire league. So I'm gonna go
with Fisk as as the guy that's going to win
(33:36):
the Rookie Defensive Player of the Year. Brandon Fisk. We're
gonna take a quick break on the other side of it.
We're going to talk Coach of the year. There's a
strong case to be made for Campbell. But should it
be someone else, we'll talk about that. We'll come right back.
All right, this is Up on Game. I'm LeVar Arrington.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
We're going to talk the previews of the game at
the start of the next hour, So we're going to
get into those things, and just a matter of well
ten minutes or so, we're going to talk NFC first
and get down to business with that man. We'll talk
some Bill Belichick, too before we wrap up the show.
But right now, Coach of the Year, all right, Now, obviously,
(35:05):
the Minnesota Vikings have had an amazing year.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Against all odds, right.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
They were able to have one of the more impressive
seasons in Minnesota history with Sam Darnold. Now, we don't
know if it was going to be JJ McCarthy. I
think we all know that we don't think that it
would have lasted being Sam Donald if he had been
the one.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
To start off the season.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
But that is, you know, just kind of an opinion
that's not based off of fact. What is fact is
that Sam Donald had an amazing year as a journeyman
QB and throwing for over four thousand yards and thirty
five tds and a passer rating over one hundred and
that one oh six point four. This was one of
(35:58):
the most impressed coaching jobs in the National Football League.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
And I think that's without a doubt.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Now, with that being said, Dan Campbell and I don't
think it's even arguable Dan Campbell most likely possibly, I
don't know that it does happen, but with what he's
had to overcome to achieve what he's achieved this season,
(36:32):
especially knowing that you don't include the playoffs. I'm just
saying if i'm if I'm a voter. While I was
very impressed. While I was very impressed with what Minnesota
was able to do, one Dan Campbell overcame more so
(36:54):
who had more? Do you have to off the top
of your head, because I know you're a big, a
big Lions fan and that's your team and everything, perfet
What do you know the list of, offhand, how many
guys he had go go out for the season.
Speaker 7 (37:08):
It's more than I can count on my hand.
Speaker 8 (37:12):
Wow, I hands plural, I should say, And I know
definitely among defensive starters you had lost like Aiden Hutchinson.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Otis heel that was the defensive player of the year
right there.
Speaker 7 (37:23):
And multiple multiple weeks after he had gone out.
Speaker 8 (37:27):
How he was still a leader in sacks first first
for the NFL, but then for the Lions team. You
know they they had massive turnover at the linebacker unit
as well, Like that front seven was massively decimated through
the year. Carlton Davis leaves for the year with a
broken jaw. Like I get the arguments for Kevin O'Connell,
but I think you look around there and see what
(37:48):
Dan Campbell did with that team and also Coach of
the Year. Is also about meeting expect I know sometimes
we don't give enough credit to coaches for meeting expectations,
but Dan Campbell's Lions did also with all of this happening,
win fifteen games, win the NFC North, and a first
round by on top of everything, it seems crazy. I
(38:09):
feel like I want to give some love to Dan
Quinn for how he's turned around the commander's job.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
I love that. I love that one. Yeah, that's it.
That's a name to throw in there.
Speaker 8 (38:16):
I know O'Connell is like probably the top pick, but
I'd either take Campbell or Quinn one of the two.
Speaker 7 (38:20):
Dans in my mind.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Had him on my list, had had him on my
list of coaches. Obviously, what he's done in Washington has
been amazing. But if I'm making the pick, I think
it's gonna be Dan Campbell that gets it. But we
may see O'Connell get it. Anyways, it's our one. It's
Fox Sports Radio that's up on Game Hour two, coming
at you next
