Speaker 3 (00:50):
Wait tire buying should be and the show is sponsored
by DraftKings. Stay tuned because you're gonna hear more about
DraftKings and all the offerings throughout the NFL season. DraftKings
is yours and uh I have a retraction? WHOA what
my head was up my butt last hour? Because I
made a secondary throw in teaser.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Bet you got.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I said Cowboys are playing the Panthers, so I have
to be stat boy and crack myself. I was just
thinking worst team because you know, I think the Saints
are bad. They're playing the Saints in Dallas, so I
still stick with my bet. But it's not Dallas over
the Panthers, it's Dallas over the Saints. That's the second part.
Car I was looking pretty confident last week. Yeah, wait
(01:35):
till they go to Dallas. He was talking, smack till
they go to Dallas. You think they're gonna do that.
You think they're gonna do that against the Cowboys defense.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Come on.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
But much like the fighting, come on, we're here. Come on,
Miles make fights. Styles make fights. So anyway, I super
pumped about the fights this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Again.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Not only is it the NFL, which we're super pumped about,
but Saturday night Canelo Berlanga. You got Caleb Plant fighting McCombe.
That's a that's a battle in itself, that's the the card.
And then you got that whole thing at the Sphere,
which they're saying is supposed to be like the most
visual spectacle of all time outside of sports, just one
(02:10):
of the greatest events ever.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Definitely get edible beforehand. Yeah, I know right.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
And by the way, this weekend spot don't don't go
on Instagram live by mistake if you do anything in
your hotel.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Room well or maybe what intentionally? Yeah, maybe get some
bike for the show.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
By the way, speaking of I want to thank the
New York New York Hotel and Casino for hosting us
this week. Accommodations are provided by New York, New York
Hotel Casino. And I said it before, I'll say it
again to start this hour of the show. There's nothing
like the behind the scenes vibe of a good Fight
Radio row or Fight Weekend. It's all these fight characters
(02:46):
and all fight fans sort of know each other. It's
all the familiar faces that you see behind the scenes
in the in the fight world, you know, like the
Jim Lampley's like Bridge said, the classy Jeames Lennon juniors
walking around, all the fight guys you see all in
the fights and it's just a fun thing to be
a part of.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Now happy to be back in the mix. The analogy
would be.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
That when you were kid and you were like, I
wonder if the wrestlers in WWF, no, the wrestlers in
w c W or I wonder if the Yankees know
the guys on the Indians or the where the Mets
know the guys on the Cardinals. If you're a fan
of sports radio and TV, we all know each other. Yeah,
it's the weirdest thing because like we just saw like
you heard me say, shake it up.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
I saw Scotti, Farrell, we saw our buddy ways I
shake it out.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
We'll see our old buddies from ESPN, from NBC, sports
sex m It's you know, the broadcasting world, like you,
whatever industry you're in.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
It's one one little sport and it's very very fun.
It's gonna be a very very fun fight this weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Right, Well, it's time for something new. We're doing. Uh
oh and uh Danny g you you put some effort
into this. Lock and key. Let's do this locks like
the locks on your doors, unbreakable. See it ours lock
and key.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
You can't be locked out if you have the key.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
That key is making great picks. Only a lifeline can
save you.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Come on, Yeah, it is Friday. I love when features
on the show kind of come about organically. Rich a
couple of weeks ago wanted to do like a Survivor
pool type deal. So it has spiraled into this our
own spin on Survivor pools. Each Friday, everyone on the
crew is going to pick one NFL team that we
(04:35):
think is a lock to win straight up. We all
picked a number earlier for the order. The order is
important because no team can be picked twice for the week.
Got it all right? Before the crew all get their turn,
we're gonna have a guest or caller pick first. If
our caller wins their bet the next week when we recap,
they're gonna have the power to resurrect one person on
the crew who was knocked out start kissing. So you
(05:02):
listening are the key. The last one of us left
standing this season at the end is going to win
a badass lock and key trophy that you'll probably use
as a paperweight in your office. And we'll go out
to a show dinner where we're all going to celebrate
their victory and treat them to a nice meal.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Nice not like a survivor pool lock and key. Do
I have any way to get the golden power of Veto.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
By any chance or no that a listener has to
bring you back in?
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Okay, So here's the order for this week. And by
the way, a p one, a great listener Wes in Vegas,
is going to be our guests, all right, str for
the coronation. Here, Wes, you're there on the line. I'm here,
all right, So the order Wes, then Buyer, Coveno, spot myself, Sam,
and then Rich. Now remember, once a team is taken,
(05:52):
you can't pick them. But next week when we do
this again, it's all going to reset. Yes, all right,
so it does, it does, all right, and the listener
gets to go first hopefully so they always win and
get to bring somebody back in Wes. That means the
pressure is on you, buddy. Start us off nice here
all right, I'm gonna take the build.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Noday west side. I'm taking the Dolphins, so funny.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Yeah, it has has to be a game that hasn't
been played yet this week. Okay, sorry Danny, but I'm
gonna take the Ravens over your Raiders. Well they are
the biggest favorite this yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Absolutely, So again that's how it works. Strated all the
best ones, and I got to go up with it.
Another option.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
All right, Dan Bayer's got the second pick in lock
and key. What's up, dB, guys.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
I think that Caleb Williams is going to continue to struggle.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Give me the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football. Nice.
Oh all right?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
And now Coveno, I think the Chiefs go to and zero.
There's still the team to be. They're playing at home,
Chiefs over the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
That's my lock. Cool. I don't love that one. I'm
going chief somehmuch.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Joe Burrow's got to be doing something, dude.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, well guess what I need to do to do
a whohole lot enoughing last night?
Speaker 7 (07:08):
That's sorry?
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I got Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Okay, all right, Spotty, I'm gonna go for a long
shot here.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
The spread's pretty tight a poast four. I'm taking the
Jets over the.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Titans in Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
I think in Tennessee, I think they're I think they're
going to bounce back after that Week one. I feel
like Rogers was looking it was, you know, look okay,
but he was playing they were playing the forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
What do you expect? So I think they'll come out
strong week two.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
All right, and uh, Wes, let me be the first
to tell you are one of my favorite listeners on
the show.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Thanks buddy.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
But I think I am not going to need Wes
because the Commandos, as I call him, they're not going
to lose to the Giants at home. It's not gonna happen.
So I'm taking Washington and now it goes to Sam Iowa.
Speaker 6 (07:51):
Samuel, I'm gonna take the forty nine ers to beat
the Vikings.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Okay, yeah, he's got a vendetta against Sam Darnold.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I know I have.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
I have to have my prediction prove out to be correct.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
You know, the only one, Corny Sam. We won't red
headed Sam.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
And it's.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
All right and last but not least rich.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Crap, what do you guys leave me? I actually have
to go through this. That's what you got for picking
a bad number. Jacks, Jens and Tans.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Oh, you bozos left me the easiest one. Thank you
for having your heads up your butts. I'm going Cowboys
at home over the Saints. The Saints are awful.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
They beat Are you sure this game is not in Carolina?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yes, it's not. They hate the Saints.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
The Saints had a miracle. What did they put up
forty seven last week? I think the Panthers are that bad.
I think the Saints are trash and Dallas played.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Real well last week. That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
I love the Cowboys. That's a good one, but you
just don't mind. I would never bet against Mahomes over
pro no, I agree. I'm just saying Borrow, but benning
against Borrow with you cowboys over saying anyone betting against Burrow.
I get it because it's Mahomes reasonable betting against Derreks
the city betting against.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Derek Carr and the Saints, to me is like I
want to do that every week, right, So that's a
good one. That's a good one.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
So thank you everyone, Thank you Dan Bayer, thank you
I was Thank you Wes.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
And by the way, if you'd like to be one
of our guest keys, email me at Crprizes at gmail
dot com. That's Crprizes at gmail dot com. We'll invite
West back at the start of next week. See how
everybody did, and see which ones of us need Wes
to save our bust.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Save us Okay, lock and key. I love it Survivor competition.
It's our own Survivor pool.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
And you know we should put each every everybody's pick
somewhere at Coveno.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I'll make a little the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
It's a new game, it's a work in progress. Thanks
for playing along, and thank you Wes in Vegas for
joining us. Appreciate that, so again Live from Vegas, is
Co and Rich. What's up, Dicky Doodle Davis?
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Call me that one more time. I'm gonna give you.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
I'm gonna give you my Berlin get right hand.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
What's up, Chris? Ever you called me Chris one more time?
Speaker 3 (10:13):
I know we're gonna get into a little hang with
the classy James Lennon JUNR.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah, talk some more more NFL.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
We talked about too earlier and it got me thinking
about something you said, which I'm not saying it's crazy,
but it ties into something else going on today in
the world of sports. You said, Mom, I'll do my
best Covino. You bro, like, what a dool like hung
Autpha look and you were sold.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Then he came back. Bro, Oh he's got a hel.
He's got a hel.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
But you you were insinuating, like what if he took
a year off, which in sports feels like an eternity.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
We know this right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Can you think of athletes that returned after a long
time and we're even close to themselves, because tonight we're
getting a big return. In the world of Major League Baseball,
multiple Cy Young Award winning Jacob deGrom, one of the
highest played players in Major League Baseball who went when
healthy seems unhittable.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
I think there's a number one answer on the board.
We're here for a boxing event, Canelo Berlanga. George Foreman
is the number one answer of all time.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
You know, he was.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Fighting Muhammad al Lee when in his prime. Came back
before I was born. Yeah, exactly, came back. Girls look
nothing like the George for growing up, and you know
he won it again in his forties. He was a
different guy with all sorts of power, had a different
way about him. He was a happier man. You know,
(11:33):
back in the day he was an angry, angry dude.
And uh, George Foreman is one of those guys reinvented
himself completely and came back all those years later to
win it all. So he's definitely that guy. It's possible,
It's very possible.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I mean there's guys like rick an' keel who found
thought he was out of baseball, came back as a
position player.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
The first thought in my mind from the car accident,
the injury, Tiger Woods came back and it was slow
sledding first and then had that big time win, and
now things have kind of went yeah flat, But that
was an amazing comeback I know.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
For some reason, but maybe not for everyone, but for me,
I feel like, uh, we forget sometimes that Peyton Manning
went through a major surgery, missed time and that was
you know, we got to remember, well, why did Peyton
leave the Colts again and go to the Broncos And
that was because the Colts thought he was done. He
came back and was super productive as a Bronco, not
during the Super Bowl year, but he won another ring
(12:29):
with the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
So Peyton Manning gig put on that list.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
But do you think Jacob de Grom comes back tonight
the Texas Rangers take the field a little later after
this afternoon?
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Was yeah, for real, like a fool hold on. I
gotta look for him because I think it's like five
hundred days something.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
N really, man, that's crazy. Good for him, man, congrats.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Jacob de Grom ready's for his first start in five
hundred and three days.
Speaker 8 (12:53):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
I didn't I mean obviously didn't realize it was that long, because.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Do you remember he we all felt for him because
he got that big contract with the Ranger.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, I remember he was all tearing then he got
the injury. You're right, he was all crying.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
They won a World Series and we played a whole
other year of baseball. It's been five hundred days. So
when the Texas Rangers take the field tonight and they
are playing in Seattle, who's trying to maybe squeak out
a wild card?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
It doesn't look good.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
But Rangers are favored, believe it or not, in that
game because d Gram takes them ount But it should
be interesting.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
I know we're all on a football mindset and.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
You're saying we can't be in significant time off. Not
just like he missed a few games, he missed the season.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, it's not four weeks in the NFF the time.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
I mean, Jacob de Grum came out of retirement and
really came back and did his thing well.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Because da Gram is a multi cy Young Award winner.
Again when when he's healthy, unhittable, and I feel like
no one's really talking about it because the Rangers have
sort of played themselves out of it. They're playing like
a little under five hundred baseball. Rangers lost their their
spark right pitching not what it was, but you know
him and Sures are both pitching this weekend.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
A star pitcher in Los Angeles who missed a couple
of seasons and is struggling to return and get back
into form right now, is Walker Bueller?
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Yeah, bueller. Yeah, it's not Uh, it's not easy. It's
not easy to come back. But keep an eye on
that tonight.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
If you're a big sports fan, I know, like I said,
football is on everyone's mind to last night.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Some big fights this weekend. But if you're flipping around tonight,
you got.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
The MLB package check out for first check out that
you know at the sportsbook tonight.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I mean, I don't like ers, but I like a
good story and a great comeback.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Why don't we go watch the first inning or so
at the sports book tonight, because when else are you
going to watch the Texas Rangers.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
You're in Vegas. We'll go have a couple of drinks,
get some dinner. I'm so down, dude, because you.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Know, I know you're a big baseball guy, and when
you're talking about I'm telling you as a Mets fan,
maybe I have a soft spot for the gram because
he is just we've we've met him.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
We have I'll never forget that. On a personal note,
Rich and I worked at S and Y New York.
We had a TV show live from Time Square, all
Things New York Sports and Cavino and Wrench Live, and
I remember they brought him in.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
It was like a proud moll. He was there with
his family.
Speaker 7 (15:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Here he is the highly touted Jacob de Grom and
he had like his long hair and at the time,
he's just a young kid. At the time, he's happy
to be there. I remember he was a position player
that they made it to a pitcher, and it's like, well.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Good decisions.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
We met him and his family and like, yeah, man,
good luck, dude. We heard a lot of great things
about you. And look, all these years later, still doing
his thing.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
So just keep an eye on that. That is all.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
And listen, we're gonna get to the classy James Lennon junior.
And you know what's an interesting fun fact? Is this
true that I did spot? Did you fact check? His
dad was in Rockies?
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Dad was in Rocky three and he was and he
was in Creed three three.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
How cool is that the classy James Lennon Junior is
the son of the classy James Lennon Senior.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah, that's so cool. So, yeah, he's right there.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Yeah, absolutely, and he was also a ring announcer, so
we'll get to him. And then of course we're doing
another podcast tomorrow, special bonus show on Saturday, where maybe
we'll have more guests. Maybe Jim Lamflee'll stop by. Maybe
you never know. I mean, there's a bunch of people
walking here, walking around here in Vegas for the fight,
so we got more Cavino and Rich.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
We do it next live from Vegas.
Speaker 5 (16:14):

of classy all of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
To our left is Allegen.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Can I you never met him? Yes, Rich, I turn

the WBL WBC.

Never got to meet you. It's so cool to see
you in person.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
It's like you're the You're the guy we've only seen
on TV at all these events.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
And that here you are.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
It's been too long. I haven't great to be with you,
really had to be with you.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
I have so many questions for you.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Man.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
It's the classy James Lennon Junior, and you do the classy.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
You are a classy guy.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
I was watching you walk around. He walks around with
a sense of class about him. When you have a
name like that, is there a pressure to live up
to the reputation?
Speaker 4 (18:56):
There is definitely.
Speaker 8 (18:58):
Gentlemen, I hope you don't see me in the morning
when I wake up.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Your head everywhere.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Oh man, it's the worst.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
When your two buffoons like Rich and I, it's kind
of easy. But when you're the classy James Lennon Junior. Yeah,
people are watching you well before we talk about the fight.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
I feel like one of the most fun facts about
you and your legendary late great father.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, he was in Rocky three. You were in Creed three.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (19:18):
Cool, like ty in what a great Quizzes is. There's
more to the story, you know. My dad was hired
for Rocky one by the casting directory and they said,
just one more thing, we got.
Speaker 7 (19:27):
To have you meet the director and my dad said.
Speaker 8 (19:30):
Well, okay, And by the mean, my dad did it
reluctantly at scale, but it was a new film as
new producer actor.
Speaker 7 (19:36):
He's still called Sylvester Stallone.
Speaker 8 (19:38):
And he went in to meet the director who looked
up at him and said, well, you don't look like
an announcer. And my dad said, well you don't look
like a director and he let the scriptor walked down.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Oh yeah, and your dad comes from the time of
when the microphone, yeah, came down from.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
The ceiling, which must be a whole weird thing.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
I'm sure you've done that too, right many times, but
not so much anymore as much.
Speaker 8 (20:00):
But periodically they want the old school look and let
me tell you that cord hanging down gets in the way,
it kind of runs in front of your face.
Speaker 7 (20:07):
It's not as easy as it seems.
Speaker 8 (20:09):
And also it's kind of you got to do the
notes with one hand, and.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
You know, take us behind the scenes again. It's a
pleasure to have James Lennon Jr. Here And of course
we have so many questions about the fight, but just
your preparation in itself, tell us about that. I mean,
millions of people are watching. You got thousands of people there.
Do you have warm ups? How do you go over this?
Your announcement?
Speaker 7 (20:29):
Yeah, you know what I have. Maybe it's a fault.
Speaker 8 (20:32):
I don't know if it's a gift or a fault,
but I feel like my entire career is based on
my most recent performance. Yeah, and so I have standards
that I really want to do and like I said,
maybe it's a fault, but I try to do it right.
I try to honor the fighters by giving all the
information because we're all there to see them, not me,
not nothing.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
It's very humble of you to say, but you're part
of it, you know what I mean? Like it feels
like more of an event when we see guys like
you at the fight.
Speaker 7 (21:00):
That is an aspect of it.
Speaker 8 (21:01):
I'm honored to be a part of that, right and
really feel very fortunate. But so I really work hard
to look through the details and make sure I got
it right and go through it. I don't have a
routine other than being careful not to use my voice
too much the few days before in the day of.
Speaker 7 (21:17):
Especially in Las Vegas where the dry you know.
Speaker 8 (21:20):
Air conditioning, dry weather is really tough. I get up
for big fights, sure, it's a little easier. The mega
fights are easier because it's so exciting, right, so you're
feeding off of that, feeding off of that, and so
that's the most of it, and I work hard.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Are there any legendary fighters or just random ones that
have got you tongue tied? Because when we've had guests
on UFC is a little tougher than boxing.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
But there are some names where I'm like, I gotta
say it.
Speaker 8 (21:45):
Over and over and over and over exactly the Russian
names of French.
Speaker 7 (21:49):
French is really tough for me.
Speaker 8 (21:51):
You know what's easy is a Spanish It's just like
that's a dream, It's like that's okay.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
I hand to be on a plotter very nice. Japanese
is whose name.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Do you feel like you deliver the best?
Speaker 7 (22:02):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (22:02):
Come on now, come el grand campe Julio, say.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Sal, you have no idea how everyone in my living
room growing up would go nuts when you would do that,
because that was such a great time and you were
a part of it.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
You you've changed your big intro call to it's primetime now, right?
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (22:23):
Well, you know with the with the exit of Showtime boxing,
you know, personally, I want to go back to Showtime.
Speaker 7 (22:29):
So I'm hoping it'll be some time and we'll see. Uh.
Speaker 8 (22:34):
I think there needs to be some time. So sometimes
I go with its primetime. Sometimes I go with it's
go time, right, Like when we were on HBO and
Showtime at the same time, I couldn't say showtime.
Speaker 7 (22:43):
So we'll see what happens. It's it's a work in progress.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
It's go time.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
What's it feel like when you're introducing and you deliver
your line right and the lights go up?
Speaker 2 (22:54):
That's when the lights go up? Is that the coolest
feeling for you? Right?
Speaker 7 (22:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Crap nuts?
Speaker 7 (22:59):
Yeah, it's it's nice. It's it really is. It's I feel,
you know, I have the best job in the world.
I really do.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Well, here's what we don't know about it. Right, we
see you there, You're doing your thing, you got your
suit on. We're thinking to ourselves, Look how classy he lix.
This guy's so classy, right, and you're such a professional.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
What are you doing in between the fights? Sitting there watching? Like?
Speaker 1 (23:19):
I never see you there? Are you backstage summer watching?
Are you there taking it in? Are you a big fan?
Like during the fight, what does James Lennon Junior do?
Speaker 8 (23:27):
So you know I'm a normal person. Yeah, I'm a
fight fan. If it's not a good fight, I get
a little bored. If it's a good fight, I love it.
So no, I'm sitting in front row, right behind the timekeeper,
and I'm watching it go. There are times I'm looking
forward to the next you know what I have to
do next, So I'm reviewing my notes. Sometimes I think
about the decision. How can I make the decision interesting?
(23:50):
You know, something special? So right, my mind's going.
Speaker 7 (23:52):
But I'm also just watching the fights. But it's a
good fight, I you know, I stand up and cheer
when it's great.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
There's also so much pressure on that rich there is
a lot of pressure on you not only to you know,
get the audience involved introducing the fight, but getting that
call at the end right.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
You got to get the scores right. It has to
be right.
Speaker 8 (24:08):
It has to be delivered right with some anticipation of
knowing you know them, not knowing who the winner is
in There's a right and the wrong way to do it, uh,
And I love.
Speaker 7 (24:19):
To deliver the message. I'd do it as clearly as
I can now.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
James, you just said it. You're a fan, right, You've
been doing this. You probably go up going to fights,
your dad's doing it. You've seen everything. We've seen these
terrible decisions in boxing over and over again. You're getting
these scorecards. Do you ever mean mug these guys and
say what were you watching?
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Like?
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Do you notice this when it happens? And what's your opinion?
Speaker 7 (24:40):
Are you sure? Yes?
Speaker 2 (24:42):
You know?
Speaker 7 (24:42):
Is this the final that?
Speaker 8 (24:43):
No? There have been times that I have corrected them,
not on to correct in the judge's scores, but whoever
tallies them gives me the wrong winner the right result
call it, calls it a majority instead of a split
or whatever. So there are a number of times that
when I go to places not like Nevada where they
know what they're doing, but where I go to places
where they're not as familiar with boxing and the big fights.
Speaker 7 (25:05):
That I do have to correct them.
Speaker 8 (25:06):
You know, there has been a time that wow, you know,
I hate to say it, but it was in it
was in South Carolina that they gave me a score
like okay, one piece of paper and it.
Speaker 7 (25:16):
Was like two hundred and thirty two to two hundred twelve,
and I was like, what is that? They added all
the scores right, I did, Wait a minute, let's do this.
Very lucky they have, you thought sometimes sometimes.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yeah, we got Jimmy Lennon Junior here at Cavin On
Rich Fox Sports Radio. Now we're kids of the eighties
and nineties. You mentioned Julio Caesar Chavez. I'm thinking Tyson,
the Don King days, holy Field, Many pac Man, Pokiao
and Floyd Mayweather Junior. Any interesting relationships you have with
some of these big names because they see you at
their big moments.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
Yeah, you know, Okay, Well let's talk about Don King.
Speaker 8 (25:53):
First of all, one of the smartest guys I've ever
met and also one of the hardest working guys I've
ever met. The first in the morning at the from
the last to go amazing good to me, loyal. I
didn't palle around with him a whole lot, and that's fine.
I just did my job and never left a fight
without a paycheck in my back pocket.
Speaker 7 (26:11):
So you know, a good thing with him.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Do you ever think about doing your hair like him?
Speaker 7 (26:15):
No trouble as it is.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Now, you never left with that paycheck because.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
You always got paid him. No good business y.
Speaker 8 (26:27):
Yeah, yeah, that's a good business man. So I have
nothing bad to say about him at all.
Speaker 7 (26:34):
You know, hulop Is.
Speaker 8 (26:36):
I still see him as he's as he's working very
active in you know, calling fights in Mexico, and we
just have.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
A fun relationship with him. I don't see Evander too much.
Speaker 8 (26:45):
Mike Tyson is just a sweetheart of a man, and
you know, he just gives me a hug every time
I see him, and he might.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
He was very close to my dad. He loved my
dad well.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
My dad was sick and truly months before he died,
Mike came over to visit him, came over to the
house after he fought Razor Ruddick came over a surprise
visit and sat on a small stool and shorts and
a T shirt and just said, yes, mister. Let I know,
mister asked him about the fights and really gave my
dad more life to live. So he's a sweet sweetheart
(27:17):
of him.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Man, that's cool. One of the most fascinating people ever.
Speaker 10 (27:19):
I think, yeah, yes, absolutely. What do you think about
him and the Jake Paul? Yeah, you know, I don't
know what to think about that. You know, he's what
fifty eight years old, great shape, but boxing, you don't.
It's the timing. It's the speed that really matters. And
he's fighting a young guy that takes boxing seriously.
Speaker 7 (27:38):
So I don't know what to think about that. Don't know.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
You are an announcer and a game of competition in
a sport called boxing. What about competition in the world
of announcing?
Speaker 2 (27:49):
Is it competition? Is it camaraderie?
Speaker 1 (27:51):
All these other guys that you've come up with all
these years, the Michael Buffer's Diamante, Joey Martinez, all these guys.
Is it like a weird fraternity or or do you
guys not know each other at all?
Speaker 2 (28:01):
What's that relationship?
Speaker 3 (28:03):
Like?
Speaker 7 (28:03):
We don't work that much together.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
So so Michael and I are are our colleagues we're
friendly to one another. We're both married to women with
the same name, Christine, uh, and we exchange emails periodically
and he's really nice and generous to me. Yeah, there's
a little competition for a big fight. We're gonna want
to have it right with a lot of the younger
announcers that I work with. You know, sometimes I feel
(28:26):
funny when they're doing the undercart and I just come in.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Yeah, but you've earned that, right, that's that's you know, I.
Speaker 7 (28:34):
Just thank them for it's good time.
Speaker 8 (28:35):
Yeah, it's uh, you know, I just got it. It
can be awkward, but most are very generous and it's nice.
And so try to get along with people as much
as I can, no matter who are where they are.
But yeah, there's a little bit of competition. We all
want to do the biggest and the best. I freaking
it's exciting.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Well, we got a fun one Saturday night for Longa Canelo.
Canal's a big favorite. I mean, I know you're you're
probably not giving out wagering advice, but you think Burlonga's
got a shot here? Is this an easy one for Canelo?
Based on what you've seen?
Speaker 8 (29:05):
Broonga's a thefeet Yeah, anyone with a punch like he
has has a shot. Sure, yeah, I mean, but something
has to happen for that to happen. There has to
be you know, Canelo has to have some sort of
slip in his style.
Speaker 7 (29:16):
Did he turn old and one night? You know, did
he you need to get injured? Is there a training problem?
You know?
Speaker 8 (29:23):
Was he not one hundred percent? So things have to
line up properly for Berloga to win. Of course he's
an underdog. Underdog, but he has a puncher's shot.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
So we'll see what happened. And you were at the
way in obviously anything did you pick up anything there
that he look dehydrated? The Canelo looked good, the sort
of They.
Speaker 7 (29:40):
Both looked good and ready to go. They were having
fun firing up the crowd. Uh.
Speaker 8 (29:45):
You know, there's a fight with Caleb plant right and
Trevor mccompany, and I think that could be the fight of.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
The night, fight in the best.
Speaker 8 (29:52):
Those guys are seriously emotional about this fight.
Speaker 7 (29:56):
They don't like each other and they're going to put
it on. They both look really.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
Good condition, they are ready to go, So that's going
to be a very interesting fight.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Let me hit you with one more question that willly go.
We know you're a busy guy, James Lennon Jr. Here
with Cavino and Rich when you're when you're getting ready
for this fight on the weekend tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
First of all, do you do you pick out your
suit ahead of time? Do you have like your I.
Speaker 7 (30:18):
Do I pick it out.
Speaker 8 (30:19):
I have a nice relationship with uh, you know, a
nice nice clothing company in Canada, so I get a
number of coats and jackets and suits.
Speaker 7 (30:29):
I'm just very lucky.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
To go with that ring. By the way, is that
do you see that? That's awesome, man, Yeah, they're pretty sweet.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
I forgot what I was doing ask no man ring,
but uh you are? You are pretty pumped for Saturday night?
Speaker 2 (30:45):
You still get them? Oh I know what I was
gonna ask it. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (30:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Since you've been in this game, the social media world
has sort of changed the fight game boxing UFC, Like
we mentioned, like the Jake Paul's of the world. Is
it crazy to see where the fight game has come
from when you started doing this?
Speaker 7 (31:00):
You know what, It's a little crazy, but honestly I
like it. I don't mind it at all. The more
fans that are showing up.
Speaker 8 (31:06):
You know, when Jake Paul fights and he brings a
different kind of crowd, it's fun.
Speaker 7 (31:12):
I mean it's fun.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
Something's happening in the crowd that maybe aren't so fun,
but let me.
Speaker 7 (31:17):
Tell you, it gets it gets a little crazy. So
I have no problem with it.
Speaker 8 (31:21):
I like people tuning into boxing and watching it, and
sometimes they see that boxing is not as easy as
it looks it seems, so I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
I want to thank you for your time for years
and years of awesome announcing. I mean, a true legend,
a classy guy. Let's give it up for Jimmy Lennon Jr.

forty nine ers, Will you be sold on Sam Donald
at all? I don't know.
Speaker 6 (33:26):
I mean, Rich, listen, Rich, I picked the forty nine
ers just to uh, you know, just because I know
they're gonna go in there and they're gonna whoop the
Vikings butts.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
So I hope so, and I believe what you're saying.
I just think it's fine. I think you should double
down all season.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
Uel.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Yeah, I'm going to listen to your guns.
Speaker 6 (33:42):

This is what you're gonna get in his memoir. You know,
like I went to Woodstock in nineteen sixty nine and
then changed my life.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
That's what he said. I thought he said that's when
he knew he wanted to be famous. Oh oh okay,
I never heard that. It's like I went to Woodsite
