Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening sports. Yeah, let's do it. Let's go, let's go,
let's go on a Sunday morning. We can't even say
Saturday night anymore. Be safe on the roads, y'all. If
you've had a few, don't try to risk it. We
have this incredible invention called uber lift. I don't know

(00:25):
whatever you trust right now, park walk, don't get a
d U. I b be cognizant of our dudes that
are just wrapping up their sets. Are those that are
just getting off a shift, and save yourself money in
the long run. Don't drink and drive. That's my message
to you tonight. Good night everybody. Jason Martin, by the way,

(00:47):
is out. My name is Chris Blank. I'll explain where
Jason is coming up here in just a bit. But
as always, this is like heaven to me. I mean,
this is like sports heaven to me. Whenever I get
the phone call that says, hey, you got time to
fill in? I mean, let's go. This is for me
the ultimate shift because if you're up at three am

(01:10):
on the East coast, two am in the essential time zone,
if you're listening to us and not I don't know
what techno or I don't know any kind of music
at midnight on the West Coast, then by all means
you're a die hard. So we've got die hard topics
that will get into tonight like the always valued and
the always Necessary and sports talk radio most anticipated matchup conversation. Oh,

(01:34):
let's go with the n C double a tournament, will
recap the day that was, including a Cinderella that's still
got the glass slipper on. I do a show on
Sunday Nights with Arnie span Your whom you heard on
with Aaron Torres a little bit earlier, but I'm a
if you've ever heard that show, I'm a big NFL
draft guy. And this week has been, Oh my gosh,

(01:55):
it's been a bevy of of topics and conversations to
get into and moves that have been made. Is the
NFL steals the headlines from the NBA trade deadline. We'll
hit on what it means with the forty nine is
moving up to three and the Dolphins acquiring draft capital,
and the Eagles. I don't know what the Eagles are doing,
and then we'll talk about those teams who are actually
not involved with this deal but got hit with the

(02:16):
shrapnell it's coming up. We got a COVID nineteen story
in the NFL that actually has a good ending. And oh,
by the way, uh, which QB actually has the owners
or GM's ear and who's actually being listened to all that?
And the best story in sports that no one is
talking about coming up live from the Farmers Insurance Fox

(02:37):
Sports Radio Studios. When you switch to Farmers Insurance, you
could save a bundle. All you have to do is
call one eight Farmers get a quote to day. I'm
blessed to be surrounded by an incredible crew on this
Sunday morning, Ryan Burr singer making sure that I don't
screw anything up. And I think that's the best title

(02:59):
for his role. Chris perfect kind of in a lot
of ways when I'm on this show like a co
host in my mind, running the show on the wheels
of steel. And I don't know if you know, I'll
have to check in with Finley, but we got a
tip time coming up here in just a bit for
his Bruins. So is this like pregame now or do
we just kind of wait, pause, countdown, get a little

(03:20):
nap in after the show and get ready for the game.
We'll check in on all that coming up here on
a busy show tonight. But I'd be remissed if, with
all of those precursors and all of those asterix, slash
however you wanna name it, that we're gonna hit on
the show tonight, if I didn't send some thoughts and prayers,
some teas and peace to the people in Nashville. And

(03:42):
that's for those that aren't too familiar with this show.
That's where Jason broadcasts from. And I don't I mean again,
I'm kind of lucky. I have a home set up.
You know, COVID has forced us to either a somehow
find a room in our home that can serve as
a studio or a be come up with the equipment
that allows us to be able to broadcast from just

(04:03):
about anywhere. But I think Jason still goes into our
Nashville studios in in Nashville, Tennessee. But tonight, um and
over the last forty hours, has been a very scary
time in Nashville. According to I guess you could say
the Severe Weather Service in Nashville Weather Service and our
National Weather Service in Nashville yesterday was the largest daily

(04:26):
rainfall ever recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. In March. It's the
fourth wettest day in Nashville history, and that has led
to flash flood emergencies all across the city. Numerous water
rescues continue across southern Nashville, reports of people clinging to trees.
It is a life threatening situation. They have warned all Nashvillians, Nashvilleites,

(04:52):
Nashville Tennessee residents to not travel. So again, thoughts with
the people of Nashville. We'll do our show, Jason. I'm
sure we'll be back next week. But a scary situation
in Nashville, Tennessee this evening, and I would assume, I
don't know, Ryan, I think kind of the point guy
on this, you know. To To Jason's credit, he was

(05:13):
like ready to try to give it his go as
soon as like what eight o'clock Central time tonight seven.
He was like ready to roll, wasn't he. Yeah he was.
He was getting the canoe out of his garage, and yes,
he was ready. He was. But we we told him, like, look, man,
it's just stay inside, stay safe. Everything's gonna be fine.
We got plank, All's gonna be good. So I'm ready
to go, man, I've got so much to get you.
By the way, good point from our man Jacob from Japan.

(05:36):
We cannot leave out those who are watching at four
in the afternoon on a Sunday in Japan. This is
I guess we would be considered the drivetime show in Japan, right,
So maybe we need to start taking that market a
little bit more seriously. Well for Japan to be more like,
you know, riding getting on the train time. That's true,
that's true. That's true. That I guess there wouldn't necessarily

(05:57):
be drive time that much. I mean, they got cars,
but I don't think that's for depending. If you're like
you know, in Tokyo, you're probably not taking a car
in most places. I probably need to upgrade my information
on the travel infrastructure in Japan, Jacob. Maybe that could
for tonight. Yeah, yeah, really learn a little bit, all right, listen, man,
I got so much to get to tonight. You know,

(06:18):
when you have maybe it's a presentation in our world,
it's just kind of your different stories you want to hit.
I've got like eighty six tabs open on my computer
right now. I usually deal with one notebook. I have
three notebooks out in front of me. I got a
bracket that I've been like a twelve year old child
that I've consistently feel a filled out. I've got different

(06:38):
colors for each round and who's one and who's moved on.
And we've got a full day of Sweet sixteen action
to recap today. So to me, as we kick things off,
football is always gonna be the top story. But I
feel like as as basically where what three two and
a half, three hours removed from Syracuse getting eliminated? I

(07:00):
feel like the football talk can wait at least a
couple of segments, right, I mean, we can wait till
after the bottom of the hour to talk about the
NFL stealing the headlines from the NBA trade deadline. Because
today in the n c Double A Tournament, we had
Cinderella continue. We had uh what I thought was the
one A seed in this tournament. Listen to genzag has

(07:21):
been the best team in college basketball this season, but
prior to their COVID shutdown, many felt like Baylor was
a one B right, I mean a whichever way you
want to look at him, lettering, numbering not really my thing.
But if if Gonzaga was the hands down no question
number one seed in this tournament, which the committee told

(07:42):
us that a lot of people saw Baylor throughout a
majority of this season as a very close second to
them at times even during the year, uh maybe even
above them. But Baylor has been through several pauses this season,
a couple of COVID pauses after they cleared up their
COVID issues. In mid February, Texas, Oklahoma, basically the south

(08:06):
and parts of the Southwest got hammered with a winter storm.
And as someone who lives in that area, you get
south of the Red River, there's not a lot of
winter storm preparation that goes on because they don't usually
have to worry about that stuff. Anyway, long backstory to
tell you that Baylor has been riding that COVID roller
coaster all season long. Looks like they're starting to get

(08:28):
their footing back a bit. Oh are you comes up
just short? Just short? What asmis gets that great look
at the three at the buzzer to win the are Yeah,
that would have been to win the game, right, but
just misses it. And then of course your nightcap was
Houston dominating over Syracuse. Now let's be clear, we're not
gonna hang any of these games in the museum for

(08:49):
incredible n C Double A Tournament games. If O are
you would have hit that three against Arkansas, then maybe
it does. I mean to me, that was a great game. Yeah,
I mean, it was just a fantastic game. But you
know how Baylor pulled away down the stretch, how ugly
that early game was between Oregon State and Loyal of Chicago,
and then Houston looking as dominant as they did tonight,

(09:11):
kind of overshadowed. And I'm not trying to crap on anything,
but when your games are duds, it's not a good night.
So let's go ahead and focus on the less than
exciting games here in the open of the show tonight,
maybe if we can get the bad out of the way.
When I say bad, I want to be very clear.
I can't help but be in awe of what Oregon
State has done in this tournament. I love it. I mean,

(09:35):
when you think about how Ethan Thompson is just out
there boring you to tears by just knocking down free
throw after free throw after free throw, and then you
back up a little bit further and you think, oh
my gosh, this was a team that wasn't even in
the n C Double A tournament until they won their
Pack twelve tournament. What Oregon State is doing is absolutely

(09:56):
jaw dropping lee incredible, regardless of how you feel about
that game that was played earlier today. So with Oregon
State moving on, they'll have a matchup against Houston in
the Elite Eight coming up on Monday. Let's start our attention.
Let's start our focus on the two early games. And
as Ben Mallor has taught me, the best story is

(10:18):
always in the loser's locker room. So with Loyal of
Chicago being eliminated and Sister Geane now becoming just I
guess what a cutaway during the one Shining Moment video,
let's sear what Porto Moser had to say about that
loser's locker room after Loyal to Chicago is tough loss
tonight are earlier today, I should say to Oregon State,

(10:39):
very hard scene in our locker room. The kids cared
so much, invested so much, Very tough when it when
it comes to an end. Man, I'm simple right now,
I guess the question becomes and I'm for the I
don't I broadcast from from Norman, Oklahoma. I Live in
in Sooner Country, and now a lot of the questions
with Porto Moser becomes is he a candidate for some

(11:01):
of the other jobs that are currently available. I mean,
you think about it. The Paul is open if you're
wanting to stay in that area, and I don't even
know if the Paul is a better job than Loyal
of Chicago, to be honest with you, Indiana is open.
I'm sorry, I like Porter Mooser suits, but I honestly
think that for Indiana fans that would be considered a
disappointment if they hadn't end up hiring port Mooser. But

(11:22):
then you also add Texas in Oklahoma are open as well.
So you got four pretty big jobs. Three of those
four a pretty big jobs, one more from a geographical
perspective that Moser could be considered a candidate for. Meanwhile,
while that story becomes about what might be next for portmoa,
Porter Moser and in Loyal if Chicago moves on. Wayne
Tinkele and Oregon State are living the twelve Live and

(11:45):
my man is on Cloud nine going to the Elite eight.
We're just playing with a lot of confidence on both ends.
You know, we're pretty good, darned good defensive team. There's
no doubt in our guys minds. They really believe that
this is their time. It's what we said before we
left the locker room. You know that we're not gonna
get rattled. This is our time. It's meant to be.
Let's go play ball. They were all very very calm

(12:06):
through it all. I gotta tell you something, man, I
gotta tell you something. This has been, to me, one
of the more miraculous runs in the n C Double
A Tournament. I'm not trying to be overly dramatic, but
just based on everything surrounding this team. I know, I
know George Mason's run, loyal Chicago, and going back to

(12:29):
what I was at eighteen, I know there's probably bigger underdogs.
But to me within and I'll get Finlay's take on
this later in the show, but when you think when
you think about where they were projected to be, when
you think about where they were heading into the Pack

(12:51):
twelve tournament, and you see that they're sitting here getting
ready to play on a Monday with the spot in
the Final four on the line, it's one of the
best stories we've seen in the n C Double A Tournament.
In a long time. Oregon State moves on fifty. Of course,
that could probably be trumped if they if o, or

(13:11):
you would have hit a shot at the buzz or
we'll get that a little bit later. The second game
of the day was Baylor and Villanova, and you know,
this was one of those games as a fan when
you're watching it, you kind of felt like the inevitables coming.
Baylor was awful from three point range in the first half,
then in the second half they finally found their footing
a bit pulled away from Villanova down the stretch. Scott
Drew was still I think one of the more question

(13:33):
coaches in college basketball. I don't get it. I don't
know why, but there's a lot of disdain for this dude,
and all he does is when and now. Scott Drew,
as he said afterwards, is one went away from the
final four. Every team in the country wants to be
in the n c A Tournament. Every team in the
country wants to go to a final four, and uh,
we're on the verge of that. And I think, uh,

(13:53):
in life, experiences always teach you lessons and different things,
and hopefully um are half will be able to prepare
our guys and put them in a good position. Um
through the two experiences in the Elite Eights before, HM,
they've been there twice looking to take that next step.
All I guess now a third time I've seen Baylor

(14:13):
in person, So I'm I'm a little bit more j jaded,
Isn't the word maybe slanted not not necessarily homeroristic towards them,
But I'm more impressed with them because I have seen
what they can do in person. And I'll tell you what,
this matchup with Arkansas might end up being one of
the best Elite eight matchups unless we get say, uh, Michigan, Alabama, Oregon, Zaga,

(14:36):
U S. And I know that's half of the matchups,
but you know, you're looking at one of the few
brackets where despite a fifteen almost beating a three or
four whatever Arkansas is right now, and you actually have
some seating that has held firm. So as crazy as
it was, you still get a one three in the
Elite eight. It's not like a twelve two that you're
looking out in the bottom part of the bracket. So

(14:58):
Baylor moves on, they get Arkansas, we'll talk more about
the Hogs and the Houston Cougars. When we come back
as we recap the full day of n C Double
A tournament action coming up after the bottom of the hour,
we'll get into some NFL notes and we'll we'll check
the temperature of the crew on whether or not this
has been a good n C Double A tournament or

(15:19):
a less than stellar one. And that's my question to
you tonight. Have you been dialed in? I mean, the
n C Double A Tournament was one of the few
events in sports that we completely lost due to COVID
last year, completely lost it. Have you been dialed in?
Have you been all in? Has it reached your expectations,
met your nieds. Whichever way you want to put it,
hit me up on Twitter, at Plank Show, or at

(15:40):
Fox Sports Radio. Will debate and discuss it throughout the night.
Chris Blanket for Jason Martin on Fox Sports Radio, Jason
Martin Show on Fox Sports Radio. Jason's out tonight, keeping
our eyes and a lot of our thoughts with people
in Nashville this evening. Severe weather has caused flooding unlike
they've seen in a long time. They've asked citizen to

(16:01):
the Nashville area to stay in tonight, So anytime I
get a chance to pinch it, anytime they call in
the as what what does Bruce Pritchard always say on
his podcast when they talk about Randy Savage the Old Net?
Anytime they call in the backup quarterback, I'm ready to go.
Arms good, vocal cords are are well oiled. I guess
I've only had Let's see, I have a rule when

(16:22):
I fill in on the overnight. This is more for
Ben Mallor's show. But I have two energy drinks or
a four pack of bush Light, So it's whichever direction
I feel like the show is headed, is whichever one
is their drink for the evening. If I feel like
it's going well, a couple of energy drinks to make
sure that the energy level stays where it needs to be.

(16:43):
If it starts out poorly, then let's just all start
drinking together, because this thing could end beautifully. As always,
the cruise here tonight, Chris Prefett on the Wheels of Steel,
Ryan Burr Singer producing to Night, and Brian Finley on updates.
We'll hear from everyone coming up after the bottom of
the hour. Let's finish read happened the games? We had today.
I thought, we just had eight interesting games one fantastic game,

(17:08):
and that's where we kick off this segment from the
Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios where you come to
you live from every single hour here on Fox Sports Radio.
Call one eight eight Farmers and you could save a
bundle on your auto insurance. It came down to a
final play three point one seconds left as Arkansas tries

(17:28):
to hold off a fifteen seed getting to the Elite
eight for the first time in n C Double A
tournament history. Thompson gets Intoto asmis up the far side
into the front court. Asmis three for the winds from
the way it bounces out, and Arkansas wins. The Arkansas
Razorbacks are going to the Elite eight for the first
time since ninety Arkansas is among the final eight. Romantic

(17:54):
the Razorbacks store back and beat Oral Roberts seventy two
to seventy one of all game and want to win
for Arkansas. Now, to be honest with you, I did
not think there was any way that you were going
to end up getting a look like that to potentially

(18:14):
win the game. For one of the best three point
shooters in the country in asmus. But somehow, some way,
oh are you ended up with that? Look? Did it
knock you down? Arkansas moves on, but still an incredibly
well designed play. Meanwhile, the other crazy thought about it
is this, as you heard on the play by play

(18:37):
called cut courtesy of Westwood One. When Arkansas last went
to the Elite Eight, they played in the National Title
gamp that season was the Final four in Seattle, where
you had u c l A, Arkansas, North Carolina and
Oklahoma State, which, if I'm not mistaken, was Bryant Big

(18:57):
Country Reeves for Oklahoma State and Ed O'Bannon led u
c l A to its national championship. It's first under
Jim Herrick. So again, not that means much, but kind
of wild when you think the last time that Arkansas
went to the Elite eight, they actually played for a
national championship, and afterwards, head coach Eric Musselman was impressed

(19:21):
with his defense. I think our pick and roll defense
was was probably a little bit more effective than what
they saw in games one and two. Not much though,
but but but slightly. Um but I thought our trapping um,
you know, and trying to get the ball um out
of certain players hands was very effective. You know, it's

(19:42):
kind of wild. I know we don't try to look
back too much on the regular season in the n
C Double A Tournament, but the Arkansas O Are You
game tonight pretty much matched what these two teams did
when they played in the regular season. Oh are You
had a ten point halftime lead. Now, the game was
a little bit tighter down the stretch today or yesterday

(20:04):
than it was in late December, But the bottom line
is and it was no surprise I think to anyone
that's followed ore You to see this game end up
being as tight as it was. And it took a
big shot from Devonte Davis, who Eric Musselman has been
proud of this entire tournament. Devo is just a guy,
you know. He's a shot creator, you know, and for

(20:25):
a freshman, that's pretty big stage to ask him to
do what we asked him to do defensively and then
to hit some of the shots that he hit. Even
in the first half, I thought his dribbled drive when
he sliced through the defense was our best offensive play
in the first half. I thought he played with a
different energy. Yeah, he looks great, um, and I mean

(20:46):
that little jumper that he knocked down was a shot
that he was hitting all night long. He finished with
sixteen points, though Tate led the way for Arkansas with
twenty two. So the Hawgs move on. The Hawks move
on to an Elite eight matchup with Baylor. I'll get
some breads on these games as they start to kind
of matriculate in throughout the evening. Meanwhile, on the bottom
part of the bracket, we talked about Oregon State in

(21:07):
the first segment, but it was just absolute utter domination
by the Houston Cougars tonight, sixty two to forty six.
It's the first Elite Eight trip for Houston since Night four. Now, listen,
I'm a child of the eighties, and I know most
of the crew is pretty young. Half of you. In fact,

(21:27):
I would assume all of you probably weren't even born
the last time that Houston made it to the Elite Eight.
But when we talk about my all time favorite in
C Double A basketball teams, the five Slammy Jamma is
up there with you and l V, with Larry Johnson,

(21:48):
Stacy Augman, Anderson Hunt most Scurry. I mean, that team
was amazing for you and l V. I loved Illinois
team whenever they made the I think they ended up
getting beat by Michigan and Ramil Robinson in Illinois had
Kendall Gill and Kenny Battle and Marcus Liberty and Stephen Bardow.
But those two teams may finish a distant second and

(22:12):
third two the Houston Cougars who lost in eighty four
to the George down Ahoyas in the National Championship Game.
That team had a chem abdual Ajuan, remember that was
what he went by. Uh. Binny Anders was a stud
Greg Anderson. It was an awesome basketball team. But as
I sit here and wax poetically about something that happened

(22:36):
many moons ago, Kelvin Sampson with this reminder, none of
that matters for this Cougar team going forward thirty seven
years ago. Has is irrelevant to our team. You know,
our our team is now. You know these kids are
not people should be worshiping this team should be worshiping.
You should worship God, but the people should heap him

(22:57):
praise on this group of kids. This is about this
group of kids and what they've accomplished, uh and what
they've worked to accomplish. I'm proud of them. What happened
thirty seven years ago was um you know that's that
was tremendous. That was great. It was one of the
great teams of all time. But I don't think any

(23:17):
current team plays based on what happened thirty years ago.
Um are every guy on our team was born in
the is Most of our guys were born into two
thousand's and most of well, yeah there was thirty years ago.
They don't remember. And by the way, I want to
correck myself because why I love the eighty four team
For Houston, the eight three was my favorite because you

(23:39):
get read Gattis and of course some dude named Clyde
to Glide. Regardless, Houston is back in the Elite eight.
So there you go. A quick recap, quick thirty minutes
recap of the games today and now we look at it,
will hit your tweets. Coming up next, we'll kind of
pull the crew to see how they feel about the
n C Double A tournament so far. But as we
come to you live tonight from the Farmers Insurance Fox

(24:01):
Sports Radio Studios, let's check in for the first time
in show would be Finley, Brian Finley with everything going
on in the world of sports. Thank you Chris, as
you were talking about Houston dominating on the glass on Saturday,
stuffing Syracuse sixty six in the nt double A Tournament
Sweet sixteen. Oranges top scoring threat and Buddy Beheim underperformed,

(24:22):
going one of nine from three point range and also
was three of thirteen overall from the floor. Arkansas lodging
out of a double digit second half deficit to clown
On Oral Roberts seventy two to seventy Hogs DeVante Davis
made the go ahead basket with under five seconds remaining,
and as Chris mentioned, Golden Eagles Max A. Smith saw

(24:43):
his would be game winning three pointer glanced off the
iron at the horn. Afterwards, Razorbacks said coach Eric Musselman,
king in on the difference in this game. I think
our pick and roll defense was was probably a little
bit more effective than what they saw in games one
and two. Not much though, but but but slightly um
but I thought are trapping um, you know, and trying

(25:06):
to get the ball um out of certain players hands
was very effective. The Razorbacks defense now gets a stiffer
test come the Elite Eight with top seeded Baylor. After
the top seeded Bears mall Villanova to fifty one. Baylor
had ten less turnovers, although they struggled from three point range.
Oregon State plowing over Loyal in Chicago sixty five to

(25:30):
fifty eight. Ethan Thompson mesmerizing with twenty two points. He
was an unblemished eight for eight from the free throw line.
And so it's the Beavers and the Cougars in the
regional final and the NBA the Clippers broadside the Seventies
six or one twenty two to one twelve as the
Clips win a fifth in a row, and in this
one kwhile Leonard had twenty eight points, the Jazz closed

(25:52):
line the Grizzlies to one ten. Donnan Mitchell thirty five
points as he took the role of point guard in
this game because Mike Conley was sidelined. And finally the
Celtics slash the Thunder one eleven to Moses Brown had
twenty one points in twenty three rebounds, a former u
C l A brewin Chris, So I'm pretty confident he

(26:14):
will have his eyes on the television screen later today
when the Bruins and those Bama Crimson Tide get it
on back to you. Thanks be Finley. Uh now we
gotta go ahead and schedule our complete game preview at
some point for the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios.
All you have to do is call one eight Farmers

(26:34):
and you could save a whole lot of something on
auto insurance. You want to do it next hour, final hour,
it's up to you. I am good with whatever. I
got a ton of stuff. And I know you were
talking about Oregon State. I've been following them a lot
as well and keeping an eye on their rise. That
to me is not improbable one bit. Okay, good from
other people, it looks like it, but I knew this
was coming, or at least I had a feeling this

(26:56):
could could happen. Well, let's let's go ahead and let's
set it up. Appointment for hour three right off the
top after your update, Let's go all in on Oregon
State in UCL Let's do it. Let's do it in
the meantime. Uh, that's Brian Finley. He'll be on updates
all night tonight. Ryan Burr Singer producing the show, and
uh taking your calls at eight, I almost forgot the

(27:18):
phone number I've I've so rarely ever give the phone
number anymore. Gazzarni and I don't take calls eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven six three six.
I almost give my home number you can call the
show at ninth. That would have been great. And of course,
Chris Perfette and real quick before we get any further
and kind of allowing me to dive into the National

(27:42):
Football League, let's take a moment to read a few
tweets on the n C Double A tournament like this
from Walker and I want to get your guys takes
on all of these. Walker rights. Yeah, the n C
Double A Tournament has exceeded my expectations, but that's only
because I'm backing the pack twelve, and I think otherwise
It's been a fine march madness, but nothing to write

(28:05):
home about. Uh, Emmett, blind Seahawks fan checking in on
the weekend, appreciate that, Emmett, this tournament has been good.
I was not excited for it at first, but now
I am. It's been a good tournament to me. And
then one more quick one here, this is from Chris,
who writes, I feel very underwell, are very whelmed by
this tournament. Okay, so not under or overwhelmed? Is that

(28:28):
a feeling that you can have prevent whelmed, don't you
have to be. I kind of feel like there has
to be either under or overweight anyway, I feel whelmed
by this tournament. I appreciate the big upsets, but the
lack of big name coaches and players has made me
almost forget about it. That's why it seems like most

(28:48):
talk radio shows are talking more about offseason quarterback drama
than this tournament. Right now, now, I would I would
say one thing here. The NFL has shown that it's
going to steal the headlines where artless. I mean, that's
just the reality of it. If Roger Goodell woke up
tomorrow with the TV ratings that the n C Double

(29:08):
A Tournament is getting, he'd be submitting his resignation. So
it's just and again I'm not pointing a finger you,
Chris binding stretch of the imagination. I'm just saying the
royal you have shown that there is an infinite larger
interest in what's going on in the day to day
offseason operations in the NFL than the n C Double

(29:29):
A Tournament. But I don't know how you feel, Prefect
you and I kind of banny this about during the break.
I'm not really finding myself missing the Dukes and the
coach Cowls of the world. Now, if we want to
debate about how there isn't his eye on Williamson, that's
caught everyone's attention, and it took a while for Kate
Cunningham to kind of catch everyone's attention. Now he's out

(29:49):
of the tournament. I can maybe get behind that, but
I'm not finding myself missing the Kentucky's or the Dukes
of the world. I think Chris has the point is
right in the point that there's no big names for
either coaches or players. But that's that's nothing new to
college basketball at this point. Like you want to ask
why the NFL is stealing the off season they have names,

(30:12):
college basketball does an end of leaping story right there? Um, yeah,
I don't know, because I hear a lot of other
guys who are in the sport, who are in the
sports media landscape, which we are a part of. This
comes up every every year too, about you know, oh,
we've got to walk a fine line between upsets and
we want to have the big brands. And I just

(30:33):
vehemently disagree with it for for multiple reasons. The first
is that this isn't pro wrestling. You don't get to
just book whoever you want. You can't just dictate these
terms if you this is supposed to be We're supposed
to be competition. So if you want Duke to advance,
then tell them to win some ball games, like, stop
stop whimpering to me about this. And the second is

(30:53):
that I think they they greatly overestimate how much people
I mean, they underestimates as me, how much people are
tired of seeing the same names year in and year out.
It's it's this is maybe coming from my family. It's
coming from my dad, who hated the Yankees, hated that
the Yankees were always around, you know, very very big

(31:15):
fan of those damn Yankees and all those kind of
all that sort of stuff. But I find that the
Yankee principle applies here as much as people. I think
the national media likes glorifying the winners as like as
much as they like talking about the winners who are
their year in and year out, like Alabama football and

(31:38):
Yankees baseball, your usual fan out there gets tired and
they want to see new new names. So having a
tournament without Duke, without U n C, Without Michigan, state.
It has some charm and it's now they're out of
the way. People have I think fallen in love with
some names, like you know, we saw Loyal of Chicago

(32:00):
getting you know, always the great Chicago media market bump
going up there, and we've seen people kind of tuning
into some of these other teams out there. For myself,
I mean, it's it's college basketball. It's a very very
diminished sport at this point. If you're not a die hard,
you're only really caring about it for a bracket for

(32:22):
a week, for a couple of weekends, or for some gambling.
So I but I I've I've seen more interested than
I think we would normally get, although I think some
of that also is that we were denied this last
year and people are just kind of happy to have
it back and are taking the time with that plus
a bunch of new teams to kind of find some
new storylines, to find some new people to follow. How

(32:43):
about you, Burr Singer, how do you feel about the
tournament so far? Has it been uh and by the way,
I guess according to uh V my Rick Corp points
out well, and I apologize, I've never heard someone say
that it's WellMed me before, but I learned something tonight.
I have now increased my vote fabulary, and I will
use that infinite times over the next forty eight hours,
including quite a bit tomorrow night with Arnie. What do

(33:05):
you think, Ryan, how has this tournament been for you? Overall?
I guess I'm whelmed. Uh quite frankly. Uh No. I
enjoyed the tournament for what it is, and going off
of Chris's point in terms of not having the blue bloods,
not having Duke and and what have you, I don't
really care because I just like the tournament, and I
think there's a lot of fans who also feel that way.

(33:28):
I don't really follow college basketball much throughout the year,
uh this year, especially because it's it's kind of been
more difficult to do so, especially when there's not as
many big names that aren't being constantly shoved down your
throat by by the mainstream sports media. But but legitimately, though,
I just like the tournament for what it is, and

(33:48):
and every year, I especially those first couple of days.
I love how the schedule is staggered in a way
where you can just flip through the last five minutes
of every single game for those two days. It's a
holiday to me, and so I love the tournament for
what it is. I think people who complain about the
fact that there's no Duke or whatever, unless you're a
legitimate fan of those teams, I don't I can't empathize

(34:11):
with it. I don't care. I just like the tournament.
I just have to keep coming back to this is
supposed to be a competition. If you want Duke and
tell Duke to go win some games, don't come whining
to me that Duke's not in it, that this hurts
the tournament. Come on, I would tell you this, what's
the point of playing games if if we're just gonna
be like, oh, yeah, it sucks because Duke's not in it. Well,
the thing that that cracks me up is people want

(34:33):
it both ways right in and again. I know, we
gotta take a break. But the funny thing to me,
if you'll hear from a faction of fans that's say,
I am so tired of the Clemsons in the Alabamas
and the if in the college basketball world, the Dukes,
but yet when you don't have them, then you act like, well,
why aren't they there? I mean that was with college

(34:55):
football this year, I'm supposed to get excited about Notre Dame.
I'm like, what, it's whatever. So it's just it's always
fascinating because sports fans are a lot like just about
every single relationship I've ever been, and you can't make
them happy. You just can't. And if it's not one way,
it's supposed to be the other way. And if it's
the other way, it needs to be a different direction.

(35:17):
So I'm with you, guys. I don't miss Duke, I
don't miss these big names being in there. I think
it's been a fun tournament. I know the TV ratings
aren't necessarily saying that, but I watch. I'm not gonna
let TV ratings judge whether or not I think a
sporting of it is good or not. All right, when
we come back to the Farmer's Insurance, Fox Sports Radio Studios,
good tweets coming in tonight, because we've got to dive

(35:37):
in to more than just the n C Double A Tournament.
We've got NFL offseason talk coming up. But let's put
a bow on our hour one conversation and get you
ready for the Elite eight. Already on one side of
the bracket, next here on Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back
to the Farmer's Insurance. Fox Sports Radio Studios called Farmers
Today for a quote. Jason Martin is out tonight. My
name is Chris Plank, sitting in the whole who was here,

(36:01):
Chris Perfet, Ryan Burr singer, Brian Finley, and then coming
up in our we we've already carved at the time.
So my carman, you can't go to bed early tonight
because we're spending our final hour talking about this big
U c l A Bama matchup. Which, again, if if

(36:23):
this was a football game, I mean we already knew
what the outcome would be. But basketball much different world.
So I can't wait to break that down and be Finley.
Plus learn a little bit more about this Oregon State
team who has become a fascinating story in this NC
Double A tournament. Just a fascinating story. What is it
the lowest seed to make the Elite eight along with
Missouri a couple of years ago? I think what I say,

(36:45):
everything is a couple of years ago, And it was
like eighteen years ago, two thousand and two when Missouri
made it as a twelve. But I love this story
at Oregon state, and we've got uh what six eight
more games that we're gonna be able to preview as
the show rolls on. So it's gonna be a fun show.
I'm what I'm I saying? Eight more games, uh four
more games, eight more teams that we're gonna be able
to preview, looking ahead to tomorrow's action and then of

(37:08):
course into tomorrow night. Arnie and I will be back
here on Fox Sports Radio to break it all down,
all right, A couple more tweets, and then I'm gonna
kick off our two talking NFL mg M Johns checked in.
He says, as a un LV fan, it's boring, but
as a u c l A fan, it's finally great
since they have a chance to go to the elite
A are you allowed to do that? Can you can

(37:29):
you be a U n L V and U c
l A? I get you can? Right, two separate conferences,
A couple of others that here kind of jumped out of. No, listen,
Greg and Iowa, don't you put that on me? Don't
you put that on me. If there's any buzz that's coming,
it's not because the gremlins are getting in my equipment.
As I was joking about with Chris Perfett. I've got

(37:49):
like eight lamps around me, I've got seven hundred different
pieces of paper. Who was I? Who was I compared to?
Who would you compare me to? During the break? Well,
you're saying you were watching, it's all you were having.
It's always sunny up during that brake, So I was thinking,
you're just Charlie looking for Peppi Silva. I am. I'm
trying to find Pepe Silva. And I've got all of
my pieces of paper up on the wall with pieces
of yarn attached and a thumb tack to each guy

(38:12):
to to try to find out who's Pepe Silva. And
then of course Mac would probably come down to some
point you tell me, Yeah, they're all up there waiting
for their mail anyway, point being no Grimlins tonight. Don't
you put that on me, Ricky Bobby uh? And then
let's see, there was one more that I wanted to
get to from my man. Two more here This is
from Christ and I believe Oklahoma talk up tonight's five

(38:35):
overtime hockey game. That was incredible, the fact that it
should have been over in overtime, and then what Minnesota
Luth had to put in their backup goaltender and still
ended up winning five overtimes. If you missed that one
earlier tonight, Minnesota Luth wins it three to two. We're
watching that in the studio, and I mean insane, right, insane.
I feel bad from North Dakota. Goldie kind of dribbled

(38:57):
between the legs, but not to talk too much hockey,
but like Duluth two more wins away from a three. Well,
that's okay because Chris wants me to get into o
U softball, which I could talk about all night long,
but I understand that no one else would want to
hear that. The thunder blowing a lately to the Celtics
are all are you almost taking out Arkansas? I think
I hit all of that so far, Chris, but I'll

(39:19):
circle back if we miss any of it. Uh. And
then my man Eric checked in, he goes I watched
eight minutes of basketball this year and about seven of
the tournament. My Gophers haven't been good since they forfeited
the seven season. For someone that likes upsets and feel
it doesn't hurt the tournament to have smaller schools to

(39:41):
go deep, I'm with you, on that. I just I
feel like we're we're in a situation where in a
lot of ways, you're damned if you do when, you're
damned if you don't right right, if if you get
all the underdogs, everyone freaks out and it goes don't
want's gonna watch because nobody cares about Oregon State. You
get all the favorites, and I'm tired of these favorites
winning everything. Which one is that? Which one is it? Yeah?

(40:07):
Just got just win games, sit and enjoy it. Hopefully
we'll have more good games than we had today. But
the bottom line is, it's March Madness. It's back. It's
been fun. More your tweets coming up. But when we
come back, I want to shift the focus to the NFL.
What a wild twenty minutes stretch on Friday with teams
moving all over the place. Will make sense of it.
Next on Fox Sports Radio, Bart's out tonight thoughts with

(40:31):
those in the Nashville area. Records setting rainfall for the
month of March, and they are dealing with some severe flooding.
So I get a chance to pinch it tonight. Let's go,
Let's go. Tweets are great so far, keep them coming.
I'm at Plank Show on Twitter at Plank Show. Everybody
else should be following us at Fox Sports Radio. That's

(40:52):
at Fox Sports Radio. If you missed our one. Spent
most of the hour talking, into all the hour talking
in c double a tournament, right, we went, told the
story from the locker room. We heard from Scott Drew,
I heard from Eric Musselman. We heard from I think,
uh my, my new favorite coach in Wayne Tinkle, Kelvin Sampson,
Scott Drew. That I mentioned Scott Drew already as Baylor

(41:13):
in Arkansas will square off on Monday in the Elite
eight Oregon State and Houston. I if we don't have
start times yet, I'm sure we will get them at
some point during the evening. I think they're actually seven
and ideal in Central time. I'm I am a Central
time zone God's time zone kind of a person, but
I think those start times are what seven and nine

(41:34):
Central times? So we'll see. Um, everything should be out
here shortly, unless I've already missed it. Out here we go.
Elite eight schedule for Monday, six pm Central, seven Eastern
for Oregon State in Houston that will be on CBS
the Yukon and Baylor women's game will tip off at

(41:54):
the exact same time on ESPN, and then at nine
o'clock hockey Eastern Arizona and Indiana. The women's game will
be on the ESPN and then at nine thirty Eastern
Arkansas and Baylor. So there's your start times. I'll get
spreads and such coming up as the show rules on.

(42:14):
I also learned about the word whelm because someone said
they had been whelmed by the tournament so far whelmed um.
The bottom line to me was I had always heard
whelmed used as underwhelmed and overwhelmed, But thanks to my

(42:35):
Rick Corp, I guess it is a verb that you
can use are an adjective to describe it regardless, we
educate you shaping the minds here on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, as always, we come to you every single
show from the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios. Call
one eight Farmers to switch and you could save an

(42:55):
average of four hundred and seventy dollars on auto insurance.
That's a lot of money for a quick phone call,
don't you think average nationwide annual savings Survey data July
to December. We are all right, one more quick tweet
on college basketball before we we dive into some NFL talk.

(43:16):
And again this is kind of homeroristic for me to
to read this tweet and respond to it, but here
we go, my man, Ralphie Boy at now underscore. The
Ralphie Boy writes thoughts on ln Krueger retiring. I was surprised,
I really was. And if you missed it, this week,

(43:38):
we had a wild twenty minutes on Friday in the
National Football League, right because you had San Francisco move
up to the number three pick in the NFL draft,
and then literally like ten minutes after that, you had
the Eagles trade back from six to twelve, and you
had the Dolphins moved back up to six, and it
was just there, no player movement, just a lot of

(43:59):
draft pick movement. I think you had equally as kind
of shocking of a stretch in college basketball during that
same Friday NFL news dump, because you had ln Krueger
having a press conference about his retirement when at the
same time, shock A Smart was leaving Texas for a Marquette, which,
again no offense to the alma mater of one Dwyane Wade,

(44:24):
but from like an overall perspective, Marquette is kind of
a step down from Texas. I think we can all
agree on that. Regardless, it's been a wild stretch because
now you're looking at a situation with college basketball related
here Indiana Ark excuse me, Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas to Paul,

(44:45):
I feel like I'm leaving someone else out of major
potential vacancies in college basketball, and Oklahoma and Texas haven't
been opened in the same time at the same time,
in the same offseason since nine uh So, anyway, back
back to your question about Lon Krueger retiring, I'm happy

(45:05):
for him. I mean, this is the thing I think
we all want in life. Well, I'm not gonna pretend
like I know what you want in life, but I
want to be able to decide when I'm done, not
necessarily like dying, but when I'm done working. I want
to be able to decide and have the financial security
and the health of my family and myself to be

(45:27):
able to say I'm ready to I'm ready to kick
the feet up on the beach or something of that nature. Right,
I'm ready to to drink bud Lights or bush Latte's
and and enjoy my time with the time I have
left and be financially solvent and be able to enjoy
my grandkids or my great grandkids or whatever it is. Now.
Unfortunately I work in radio, so that time's probably never coming.

(45:49):
But I envy anyone who's able to do that, and
Lon Krueger is able to do that, so I'm happy
for him. I think it sucks for It sucks for Oklhoma,
It sucks for college basketball because as you lose one
of the great dudes, I mean, just hands down a
great dude. But bottom line for me, if you're able
to do that, if you're able to decide that, hey,

(46:12):
I'm done, I'm moving on with my wife. I'm either
gonna spend more time golfing or with the grandkids, or
with my wife for traveling. You know, ln Krueger's son, Kevin,
just got hired as a head basketball coach at un
l V, and I'm sure he'll want to be out
there as a as a resource for Kevin. I didn't
get to know Kevin all that well when he was
in Norman, but have heard nothing but great things about

(46:32):
him in un l B. I think you guys got
yourself a gym of a coach. I imagine Lon's still
gonna be around that program quite a bit. So yeah,
I'm sad because I don't get to cover Lon Krueger
day today, but I'm excited for him, and I think
that and I hate it for college basketball because you
lose one of the good guys. But yet, you know,
you're looking now in two programs who both were out

(46:53):
of the tournament after the first weekend, right in Oklahoma
and in Texas, who now have to find someone that
can rival what Chris Yard is doing a Texas attack
or what Bill self has done at Kansas or Scott
Drew a Baylor. So it's a big time higher in
the Big Twelve. Bernie Fratto, by the way, has checked
in early lines here we go. I just should have
texted Bernie, right, It shouldn't have been my first move

(47:14):
instead of sitting here trying to dig through Twitter. Hey,
Bernie Houston. Houston is an eight point favorite over Oregon State. Meanwhile,
Baylor is a seven point favorite over Arkansas. Again, not
a gambling man, I know that that's like completely faux
pa in the in the sports talk radio world, because

(47:37):
I mean I actually kind of keep scores, so I
know when my picks suck. I know most people are
just awful of picking games with somehow they still keep
doing it and people still think it's good. I'll give
you my my co host on Sunday nights, Arnie Spaniards
still gets his own segment to pick shows two nights
a week, and he's absolutely terrible at it. But I'll
I like Oregon State plus the six We'll get Finleys

(47:59):
thoughts on that coming up a little bit later on
in the show. All right, So a lot of college
basketball on the show tonight with March madness. That's understandable,
but I do think the NFL, once again this week
showed why it's the king. The NBA trade deadline took
place this past week. What was that on Thursday afternoon?
Wednesday afternoon whenever it was? And sure there were some moves,

(48:20):
you know that the bulls get active and bigger story
kind of became who was cut? Right, LaMarcus Aldridge getting
bought out in San Antonio, likely gonna end up with
the Nets, all right, unless he already has ended up
with the Gnats. And now you've got yet Drummond getting
brought Andre drum getting brought out by the Calves. He's
likely gonna end up on the Lakers. You had all these,

(48:42):
you know, perceived big moves. But what are we talking
about Some seventy two hours later, we're talking about the NFL.
Once again, the King took his rightful throne. And I'm
not talking about the NBA and Lebron James. I'm talking
about the NFL. Perfect. You cover the NFL probably as

(49:03):
close as anyone with what you do with the Troy
Lions and covering them on the website. Was that about
as crazy of a twenty minute stretch that we've seen
in late March where you had, In fact, there was
a part when the first trade was reported and then
the second trade was reported. I thought someone had made
a mistake. It was like, oh, so wait, did did

(49:25):
we actually have a team move up to three? And
do we have a new team pick in six? That
was almost unbelievable what happened in that short stretch on Friday.
It was basically a three a three team trade. We
just kind of, you know, it got it got a
little delayed. I think it's just one bit of news
broke first. I I think it's pretty crazy. I usually
see that stuff around. Maybe you know when we get

(49:47):
closer to the draft, but it feels like this was
kind of this this was the signal that the first
week of free agency was officially over. That especially when
it came to the quarterback position. Air. Um. You know,
everyone really gassed themselves up about Russell Wilson moving to
Chicago and that didn't happen a lot of teams. I

(50:08):
think we're expecting more quarterbacks to move than they actually did.
And what we've seen is basically all these all these
teams kind of who were still without a quarterback are
now kind of jockeying for position in the draft where
the next prize is going to come. But I mean
for that to go that that quickly, to go that quickly,

(50:31):
just spin from oh hey yeah, St Miami's now out
of the top ten. But wait a minute, now they're
back in. And now everyone's mad at the Eagles again
because they're doing Eagles things. And San Francisco has just
swapped three first round draft picks to basically pick whoever
is left after Trevor Lawrence and Zack Wilson is pretty crazy,

(50:55):
to say the least. So let's um, let's take this
piece eye piece right and and I'd love to hear
from you guys on this. That's the life blood of
this program at Fox Sports Radio. Of course, I'm a
playing show, constantly checking Twitter throughout the night. Let's go
piece by piece and let's start in the time we
have left in this segment on the forty Niners. Right,

(51:18):
So the forty Niners move up to three, and just
to kind of as prefect put it perfectly, three teams
essentially in this trade, Dolphins move out but then are
back in and Philly moves out of six. But piece
by piece, the forty Niners move up to three. All right,
let's start there. What does it mean? And I think
it's pretty bold. It's bold mood to be sure, maybe

(51:41):
influenced by the fact that if you look back in
two thousand and seventeen, this is what Pro Football Talk thought.
I mean, again, interesting theory, but in a lot of
in a lot of those who cover Kyle Shanahan and
the Niners, the the idea is that Al Shanahan whipped
on Patrick Mahomes because there was so much of a

(52:06):
belief that Kirk Cousins was going to be a San
Francisco forty Niner, because they were going to sign him
away from Washington, or at least whenever he hit free
agency they were going to sign him. That Kyle Shanahan
didn't do his due diligence with Patrick Mahomes, regardless of
how you feel about that, regardless of if you think, oh,

(52:26):
this is making up for whether or not he he
whipped on Patrick Mahomes. It is a power move that
to me says you're not drafting someone at three. This
is me. You're not drafting someone at three to sit
them behind Jimmy Garoppolo and learn for a year. Now,
do you deal Garoppolo and get that quarterback to draft

(52:47):
right away or to play right away? I say yes.
I know Summers and the forty Niners are selling this too,
because this is part of the process whenever you're trying
to increase the value of a guy in the trademarket.
Some some are starting to id to disbelief that San
Francisco would keep Garoppolo around and play him as the
starter for a year, take that cap hit, have a

(53:07):
Tray Lance or Justin Fields or whomever would be their
guy there at three and let him learn under Garoppolo.
I don't know if that's in Jimmy's DNA that he
would be a good developer. I don't know if he's
a good teammate like that. I mean, we've it's been
proven in years past that guys really aren't. I mean,
I love Ryan Fitzpatrick to death. He handled it better

(53:29):
than anyone I've ever seen, but he still wanted to
play last year for the Dolphins. So I just I
don't know if you can lay that out and say
that's the plan we're going with it. But I will
say I find the most interesting aspect of this is
that the move was up to three. Vinjamim Benjamin Albright,
who covers the Broncos and is a great job covering

(53:51):
the NFL, was on with Aaron and Arnie a little
bit earlier tonight. You can hear it on our podcast.
I was listening to it just before we went on
the air, and he is thought was that the Niners
were trying to get up to two, but in the deal,
the Jets were trying to throw Sam Donald in the
package in some way, shape or form, And for the Niners,
they just wanted draft capital and they wanted to get

(54:12):
up and that was it. So I think in a
lot of ways, the forty Niners. After having those conversations,
feel pretty confident about what the Jets are going to do,
and familiarity is a major part of this. Robert Salez,
one of Kyle Shanahan's best friends, Matt Lafleur, excuse me,
Mike Lafloor, his offensive coordinator, has been with Shanahan for

(54:33):
over a decade, so in a lot of ways, to
Kyle Shanahan, the John Lynches of the world, when they
lay out their plan, they look at the Jets and
they go, I know what's going on here, I know
which way they're going to go. But I felt like
that this was a very similar move to when the
Rams and the Eagles moved up and where the Rams
moved up and moved up to one are they were.

(54:54):
I think the Rams were either at one already or
moved up, and the Eagles moved up to like two,
two or three, And so I will take whichever quarterback
they don't take, and we'll feel good about it if
it's GoF grade, if it's wins fine. It's also very
similar to that power move that Mike Shanahan made when
the Redskins moved up to two or the Washington football
team in order to get Robbert Griffin. I think the question,

(55:14):
I think this is a quick at least on the Niners.
It's a two part question. The first is a very
simple one to debate which quarterback do you want? Which
guy do you have your eye on? Which player caught
is the apple of Kyle Shanahan's eye. And if you
believe what Dane Brugler reported, it's done that Zack Wilson

(55:36):
is going to and this draft starts at three. And
if that's the case, then you're choosing between Justin Fields,
Trey Lance or Mac Jones. Some people keep throwing Kellen
mond in there. Stop dranking people. Um. Then the other
prong in that is what do you do with Jimmy Garoppolo.
The cap hit, the dead cap hit is only two

(55:56):
point eight mill If he cut him this year, it's
one point four next year. He is much more expensive
to keep. It's got a while too. I think it's
a twenty six point nine million dollar cap hit, which
is like twelve of your cap if you keep them
this year. But if you cut them, it only costs
you two point eight million dollars. I'm sure they want
to try to move him to get compensation. According to
some reports, they turned down a second round pick from

(56:18):
the Patriots to move them earlier. But I'm fascinated to
now try to figure out over the next couple of
weeks who it is that Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch
want running this offense. Is it the inexperience or at
least the upside of a trade Lands, or is it
the Justin Fields who has played in big games, has experience,
but doesn't maybe have as high as ceiling as trade Lands.

(56:42):
Now there's one quarterback I'm not mentioning in this conversation,
And when we come back to the Farmer's Insurance Fox
Sports Radio Studios, I'll tell you why we're not talking
about Mac Jones at number three. And then there's two
other prongs and some teams that got caught up in
this big one, if you will, that were affected, but
not directly in vauld In the trade. We're talking NFL
traffed coming up, big deals happening all over the place.

(57:05):
We're breaking it down. Chris Planking for Jason Martin on
Fox Sports Radio. I almost said it's Arnie and Plank.
It's not Arnie and Plank. I'm Chris Plank sitting in
for Jason Martin. It's my solo gig. It's my Saturday
night coffeehouse solo gig. Let's go or at least into
a Sunday morning one nearing one thirty on the West coast.

(57:26):
Some might be having the first alarm go off on
the East coast. It's funny I mentioned Arnie as we
come to you live from the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Call Farmers today at one eight Farmers to
switch and you could save a bundle on your auto insurance.
I don't know, I prefet I don't know if you've
worked with Arnie much burshing or have you worked You've

(57:46):
worked with Arnie a bit? Right, Yeah, I produced the show. Still,
don't think Arnie remembers my name. Uh, he doesn't remember
anyone's name. Don't feel bad. And I know Finley's had
a couple of shows with him. My favorite Arnie span
your thing beyond you know his the fact that he
sends everyone Christmas gifts. So by him sending you like

(58:07):
Vermont maple syrup, which is awesome, he feels like he
can just destroy you the rest of the year. Right,
It's like, well, I sent you a Christmas gift, so
I can tell you that I don't know your name,
Chris Profett. But on Sunday morning, so for instance, I'm
gonna get off the air here at five am My time,
six am Eastern time, we'll start getting the first text
from Arnie, which by the way, will include lead a

(58:28):
Lap who's our producer on Sunday nights on the West Coast,
at about I don't know, seven am Eastern time, which
means six am My time, which means, gentleman, he's texting
legal App at four am Pacific time. Do you know
what his care is for legal App? Sleep schedule? Several? Nil, none,

(58:49):
But I always crack up every single time like Arnie.
And and by the way, it closed on Saturday. Aaron
lives on the West Coast. What are you doing? We'll
be back tonight. You're on Fox Sports Radio from a
leven P to two A Eastern time, trying to do
my math real quick in my head. Eight P two
eleven P Pacific time. Right, no, no, no, no, nine
P midnight uh Pacific time. As we've got to completely

(59:13):
covered with all things that are uh n C double
A tournament. Now, I hit pause on the n C
Double A Tournament talk from the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports
Radio Studios to dive into a little bit of NFL
so real quick before I move on to the other
prongs of this deal that took place. We looked at
one angle of the three teams involved in the trades

(59:34):
that we're gonna hit on those not directly involved that
are a major part of this. For that, I'll start
with you Niners moving up to three. Is it Lance,
is it Fields? Is it someone else? In your opinion,
I think it's either Lands or it's mac Jones. I'd
say Sevrade Lands twenty five Mac Jones. I think. I

(59:56):
know there's a lot of draft gurus who probably aren't
sold on act Jones, and I'm not totally sold on
him either, but I think what his weaknesses are, some
NFL teams probably don't care about them. They don't care
that you're a mobile in the pock yet, especially since
you know the ceiling for offensive line play is higher
in the NFL. And yeah, that's it's great at Alabama,

(01:00:17):
but you're kind of expecting good lines at the NFL level. Two.
I still think, though from what I've seen from Tree
Lances Pro Day. He did seem to impress a lot
of people. However, I find the like there there's not
a lot of breadth to Trey Lances tape. And that's
kind of the one thing that that bugs me, because, yeah,

(01:00:38):
it's it's nice because you've got a couple of pieces
of tape people honing on. But I mean, he only
played one game last year, yeah, I know. And then
he's only played I think it's like sixteen or seventeen
games since high school. But I jump on two things though,
real quick. First of all, you say talent around you.
I feel like that's the knock on every single quarterback
that comes out any more out of lsu Obama, right,
because they all have elite level talent around him when

(01:00:59):
all is said and done, you know, you think about it,
Joe Burrow had justin Jefferson and Jamaar Chase. Jefferson was
nearly the rookie of the year with the Vikings, right,
and Jamaar Chase is gonna be maybe a top ten,
if not top six pick in this draft. And then
the other thing Pro days, who doesn't have a good
Pro Day right as a quarterback, it's like everyone's like,
did you see that throw Zaiss succeed? Yeah, it's also

(01:01:21):
an ex succeed. I think I still give the edge
though the trailands just because I think he fits more
with what Kyle Shanahan wants to do. But I could
see either one of those guys. I don't put as
much stock in in Justin Fields right now. Not not
because I don't believe in him. I just we you know,
we talked about the problems with LSU and Alabama quarterbacks
right there. I don't know about Ohio State quarterbacks have

(01:01:44):
had a great track record either. Now they have it,
they have it. Think about who is the last Ohio
State quarterback that we're talking about that you know, had
a historic NFL career and it's had a little bit
unfair maybe even historic. Just look at recent recent Ohio
State quarterbacks come out to who you can hope to
ever be starters in the NFL. Cardale Jones didn't work

(01:02:06):
out and some of these other guys. I know NFL
teams were like, hey, can you maybe like play wide
receiver or something. It's just it's just how Ohio State
runs their offense. It works for Ohio State, but doesn't
mean you're gonna turn into a pro ready quarterback. Yeah,
Dwayne Haskins is on that list, and where is he
right now? He's trying to stay on the Steelers roster,

(01:02:27):
so and I can't. I don't. I don't think Mac
Jones is in this conversation, and I don't think that's
just forty nine are fans rooting against it being Mac Jones.
I think that I think Kyle Shanahan's wanting a more
mobile quarterback. We've said the same thing about John Gruden
for years, though John grun has finally said I kind

(01:02:47):
of think Derek Carr's mobile enough for me. Derek Carr
is not immobile like Mac Jones appears to be. But
I'm not gonna make this about the Raiders. I tend
to be on the Its Trey Lancer justin field side,
just because and I know that they've gone to one
quote that Kyle Shanahan has said after the after the
Bills game, and how the mobility matters. But I just
I tend to think he's leaning more towards Lance and

(01:03:09):
fields Burshinger, Where do you stand on this right now?
Forty nine? Move up to three? Who do you think
they're targeting. And by the way, I'm not buying anything.
Prefect and I were talking about this earlier. I'm not
buying anything. Anyone throws out this says, well, maybe it's
another position. No, you don't give up two first round
picks and move up to three to get an offensive lineman,
right right, exactly. I agree. I'm with you, guys. I
do think it's trade Lance because I feel like, of

(01:03:31):
of the guys who are available there, he probably has
the highest ceiling. I look at I look at fields
and think they's probably got the highest floor of the bunch,
but it seems like Lance has the highest ceiling. I
do think it's fascinating too. I thought this when when
the news first came out, uh the day after the
college football Championship game, it was assumed that Justin Field's
going to right right, and and all of a sudden,

(01:03:54):
like now you have a team trading up for three
and it's not even a foregone conclusion that he's going there.
So I think it's really fascinating just seeing how the
quarterback market has has changed for the draft over the
last couple of months. I the mac Jones stuff just
feels weird, but the amount of of of people. Uh,
you have Chris Sims. Obviously, Michael already mentioned it like

(01:04:16):
like people who are going like no, My instinct tells
me it might be Mac Jones. It sounds so weird,
but maybe I don't know. I think it's Lance personally,
but I'm I'm not. I'm just overnight radio producers. That's
and all I am. I'm the filling host right now,
So real quick before I get to get um Brian
Finley's update, here's that quote that I keep talking about

(01:04:38):
and for some reason try to paraphrase it not actually
read the damn thing. Things change, people change. Shanahan said,
you start to see you can win football games with
any type of quarterback as long as they are good enough,
and you can be good enough in hundreds of different ways.
So I evaluate quarterbacks in terms of trying to find
people who can have a chance to be one of

(01:04:59):
those elite type guys, and there's lots of different ways
to do it. You can see now there's plenty of
different ways. So I don't think that'll change. And as
we thought, Benjamin Albright was on earlier with Arnie and Aaron,
and his thought was that it's gonna be Trey Lance too,
and also said he looks sharp at this pro day,
like perfect just pointed out. So it's a fascinating conversation.

(01:05:20):
Who's the forty Niners target? But it's just one prong
of this conversation when we come back to the Farmer's
insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios, what does this mean from
Miami and Philadelphia? But first, with everything that's going on
in the world of sports today and looking forward to
I guess later this afternoon, Brian Finley, what's up, be Finily. Yeah,
we got a big basketball game this afternoon four or
fifteen or so, I think Pacific time, U C. L

(01:05:43):
A and Alabama in that Sweet sixteen matchup. But Chris,
we had some other Sweet sixteen games that took place
on Saturday, and we start with Houston using their rebounding
superiority to halt syrac US's tourney runs. Sixty two to six.
Was the finals gore and the way the Cougars defense
was able to collapse on Buddy Beheim was the story.

(01:06:05):
He underwhelmed with one of nine shooting from three point range,
and he was three of thirteen overall from the floor.
He made only one basket in the first half. Arkansas
once again overcomes a double digit deficit in a second
half of a game in the nt double A Tournament.
They have done this consistently during this run, and this

(01:06:27):
time it's against Oral Roberts seventy two to seventy. Of
the final score, Hawks, Devonte Davis was the one that
made the go ahead bucket with under five seconds remaining,
and so the Razorbacks, as they get into the Elite eight,
will draw top seeded Baylor next, who used a huge
second half to take down Villanova sixty two to fifty one.

(01:06:49):
And the Bears, who were known to be a really
good three point shooting team, could not find their range
in this contest, when three of thirteen from beyond the
ark but they were able to make up for it
on the defensive end with ten fewer turnovers, and they
forced sixteen against the Cats, who usually are unflappable when

(01:07:09):
it comes to taking care of the basketball. Here after
the game is Baylor head coach Scott Drew. Every team
in the country wants to be in the n c
A Tournament, Every team in the country wants to go
to a final four, and uh, we're on the verge
of that our staff will be able to prepare our
guys and put them in a good position. Um through
the two experiences in the Elite Eights before Oregon State

(01:07:32):
is on the verge of getting to the Final Four,
at least one win away from doing so. After they
took down the Beavers Loyal and Chicago to fifty eight
on Saturday, Ethan Thompson starring with twenty two points. And
it's going to be the Beavers against the Houston Cougars
in the Elite eight and Chris as I send it

(01:07:52):
back to you sort of a tease looking ahead to
this Organs came and what's made them so successful? These
guys are so good from the free throw line. Ethan
Thompson over his last two games in the NT double
A Tournament twenty three of twenty four from the line
eight for eight against Loyal or Chicago and then the
prior game against your nemesis, Oklahoma State fifteen of sixteen,

(01:08:16):
had twenty six points in that game. And so when
you have guys that are shooting in that well from
the line, chances are you're gonna win in these big pressures.
Some moments I love it. Can't wait be Finly is
gonna break it all down coming up in let's the
thirty minutes from now. Good stuff. Riyan live from the
Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios called one eight eight

(01:08:37):
Farmers and you could save a whole bunch of something,
a lot of something on auto insurance. Okay, let's look
at the other side of this deal. We're focused on
the big trade that took place. We talked about the
forty Niners side of this. Uh. If you want to
try to buy into the they know what the Jets
are going to do. You have your fuel. And the

(01:08:57):
relationship that Kyle Shanahan had with Robert Sale Michael floor
is also coach Sala's offensive coordinator. He had been with
Shanahan for over a decade, so maybe moving up to three,
they have a pretty good idea. What's gonna happen at two.
I've got I almost feel like it's confession time. I'm
not all that sold on Zach Wilson. I mean, I
know that he threw one off his back leg and

(01:09:21):
hit a guy in stride like fifty five yards down
the field, and it's one of the coolest things I've
ever seen. And I know everyone that's a lot smarter
than me that breaks down tape is saying he's the guy.
I don't know, um, But with that in mind, you
would think that the forty Niners make this move with
the understanding that he's out, that that he's gonna go

(01:09:43):
number two, or with an idea of what the Jets
are gonna do at number two. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins
side of this, okay, now perfect. I don't know if
you want to take your victory lap now or if
you want to wait till the next hour. Because as
I was thinking about what Miami did, they end up
getting the and not only do they get the picks,
but they move back up and still hold on to

(01:10:06):
enough to make a move for one of the two
quarterbacks that have completely dropped out of trade conversation. It
seems for right now that's Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson.
Because the crazy thing is in all of this is
is how the possibility of someone loading up to make
a move for Wilson or Watson has been completely ignored.
But I'm kind of with you on this, Chris, not
kind of, I'm completely with you. I don't think Russell

(01:10:27):
Wilson's on the table right now. I know that the
Texans are saying that Deshaun Watson isn't. But with this
mess that's going on right now, who knows. But I
I think all this stuff with us, I just don't
think Seattle is gonna budge. No. I I I took
my victory lap last week and that no, no, no,
no, no no, I don't mind keep doing I'll totally take
more or something. But I just I, well, yeah, if

(01:10:51):
I'm wrong, I'm wrong there. But I just I had
found since February the notion that Russell Wilson was going
to be traded from Seattle to be just no on
starter because it again, it would have spelled the death
warrant for the careers of Pete Carroll up there, of
of Pete Carroll and his entire crew up there in
Seattle to get rid of your to get rid of

(01:11:11):
your franchise quarterback in a year where again, like now
we've gone from one of the first and second quarterbacks
being locked up and they're probably not moving, the teams
aren't budging from that. Now you've got three teams going
to take their quarterbacks off the board. Like what what
you you, if you're Seattle, you're going to trade in
being competitive in a very tough division with Russell Wilson

(01:11:34):
to what like slumming it. Come on, guys get fired
for that kind of stuff all the time in the NFL.
You can't just you can't always assume, and you can't
always assume you're gonna turn those draft picks into something useful.
You've got you've got a certainty with Russell Wilson. The
idea that they would have traded him to the Bears
is just it was a non starter. It was a
non starter in every universe, and I think the Bears

(01:11:56):
kind of are coming to terms with that, as they
put out in one QB one tweeted like, I mean,
I don't mind that they listen him at QB one
compared to some other people, But I wouldn't if you're
the social media guy for the Bears, probably don't photoshop
Andy Dalton into a Bear's jersey and say, QB one,
you're just asking for trouble there. But your point is

(01:12:17):
russells anywhere. No, Russell Wilson's not going anywhere. I don't
even know if Deshaun Watson's going anywhere at this point,
just because the scub around him is just too much
right now between the Texans who believe strongly that they
can still hold on to him, and then whatever is
going on with this lawsuit. I I don't know what
how any team either A convinces the Texans they can

(01:12:39):
take him, or how much leverage now Watson is going
to have with the Texans while he tries to fight
off this, uh, the civil suit. It's it's kind of
it's weird, and I think it's just going to I
think he could get moved at some point, but I
just don't like. If you're a team in the NFL
right now, that can't be your plan A. It's too volatile.
It's two K. If your plan A is go get

(01:13:02):
to Shaun Watson, you you need to start having backup
plans right now. Yeah. I agree. Now here's the interesting
side of this from a Miami perspective. What ends up
happening if because I like being at six, if I'm Miami,
I didn't like necessarily trading all the way down to
twelve like they did. Will get to what the Eagles
are trying to accomplish coming up in our next segment.

(01:13:25):
But does this mean that they're set with TWA What
happens if quarterbacks go one to three, then a fourth
guy could potentially fall to you at six. Does that
mean that he could still be in play? Or at
six do you maybe look at another need like a
Davonte Smith and receiver a Jamaar Chase If he's there,

(01:13:46):
do you continue to build on your offensive line? If
a pin a Seoul might steel be there, are the
very Tucker kid out of USC do you start bringing
in your badass linebacker like a MIKEA. Parsons who ran
a ridiculous forty A pin states Oh day are Rashawn
S later to build on that offensive line? I mean,
I think with what the Dolphins did, and obviously I

(01:14:07):
think for Fete hits something on the head. That's what
I say to thunder fans all the time. You can
have all the draft picks you want, but you've got
to hit on them. What is it like the Thunder
half thirty four picks over the next couple of years,
and there's like a man roster. You've got to hit
on these picks. So the Dolphins have two first round picks,
two second round picks this year at extra third rounder
next year and two first round picks in three, Chris,

(01:14:28):
at some point you gotta hit on some of these,
right Yeah. Listen, if if the Bengals somehow pass on
Sewell and I'm Miami at six, I'm running up there
as fast as I can to take Sewell. Like I
think they're locked in with two, I don't think they're
gonna go quarterback. There's too many good options after quarterback.
I mean, after those three quarterbacks, Like we're gonna hit Atlanta,

(01:14:50):
they're gonna have a pick. Then you have Cincinnati's gonna
have a pick. You know, if you want Kyle Pitts,
go for Kyle Pitts. He's more than just a tight end.
I've seen some guys say he could play a wide receiver.
There's such a weapon. And then you've got Sewell. There,
you've got Jamar Chase, You've got you've got your options.
And even if your Miami, if you want a stockpilot,
none of these guys are tickling your fancy or someone

(01:15:12):
has a boatload who is, then here here's here's the
big thing. At eight, Carolina is sitting there in Carolina
needs a quarterback to and yes, that's part we're going
to get to yeah, because this is the key, because
I know for the Lions this is part of the
key for them at seven too, is that, uh, you know,
if if any team wants to trade up to get

(01:15:32):
that fourth quarterback, they've got to jump Carolinas. That means
they've got to either deal with with probably with Cincinnati,
with Miami now at six, or with Detroit at seven
to jump those teams. I don't think Atlanta moves from four.
I could be wrong though, but there's generational players in
this draft. This is one of the things. There's guys
that you can get beyond the quarterbacks that I think

(01:15:53):
are big time in Seoul and Slater on the offensive
line and Parsons at back or in Chase. So what
you're saying his dead on. You know there there's gonna
be a wealth of talent even beyond just the quarterbacks
that are avail And again for Miami, now that you're
back up at six, he gave a little bit to
move back up to six. But when you get closer
to the draft, you can you can have teams over
a barrel who will then overpay to move back up

(01:16:15):
to six. So I mean you could walk away with
this if you want to trade down with even more picks,
or as you say, as you say, Chris, like you
just get a generational talent. There's only gonna be two
guys off the boards who are not quarterbacks between Chase Pits,
wattles Sewell, just whoever you want man. Yeah, and again
if you want to go defense, this is a very

(01:16:38):
deep draft at Russian defensive end. But if you fall
in love with one, you can maybe take Greg Rousseau
that high. That's too high for me. But if you
like them, go get him. All right. When we come
back to the Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios, we
haven't hit on what this means for the Eagles, and
there's three teams that weren't involved in these trades who
definitely are affected by it. We'll dive into it next

(01:17:00):
here on Fox Sports Radio, final segment of our two
before the big Brian Finley preview of u c l A.
I almost forgot u c l A was playing Alabama.
Freaked out for a moment, U c l A Alabama
And to let us know what we've missed about Oregon State,
as we come to you alive tonight from the Farmers
Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios called Farmers Today for a

(01:17:24):
quote with Chris Perfette, Ryan Burr Singer, and Brian Finley.
I'm Chris plank in for Jason Martin tonight. Keep the
tweets coming at plank Show on Twitter. Walker rights. As
long as the Niners don't have Jimmy G starting Week one,
it's a win for them. Right. It's kind of crazy
to me to think that Jimmy G was the toast

(01:17:44):
of the town during the regular season two years ago,
right me? And again, I'm not making up a story
to fit a narrative. That's what it was. What does
Colin always tell you, a good looking guy seem to
have everyone on the in the palm of his hands
were rolling and then all of a sudden, as they've reached,

(01:18:05):
as they reached the latter stretches of the season, he
became the last guy you wanted throwing the football for
Kyle Shanahan. And then he got hurt last year, and
I think they realized they needed to go in another
direction and that they made a mistake by paying him
as much as they did. Smart move the Niners made
was in taking all of the potential dead money in
that contract and putting it very ear the deal. I mean,

(01:18:27):
this blew my mind. I was looking at this contract
before we hit the air. Jimmy Garoppolo is due to
make nine million dollars in one, which again is ridiculous
to pay a backup quarterback uh, and twenty seven million
in two and then he's he's out two years and
he's out. But the dead cap hit if they just

(01:18:48):
cut him and say we're moving on. If they keep him,
it's twelve of your salary cap. If you move on,
you only owe him two point eight million dollars. Or
I should rephrase that, it's it's a two point eight
million dollar cap bit if you wait till next year,
it's one point four mill Where the Niners were smart
is they took a majority of that dead cap risk

(01:19:08):
in the first three years of the deal. I mean,
if we were in this situation last year, they would
have taken a twenty eight million dollar dead cap hit
had they cut him the first year after his deal
forty one million dollars. But nobody gets caught after the
first year of their deal unless your carson wins. So Walker,
I'm with you. I don't think that Jimmy g is

(01:19:28):
gonna be their starting quarterback Week one. I think you
make this move in anticipation of giving the keys to
the car to someone else. Chris writes, I believe perfect
just used a phrase that should be in a future update. Finley,
tickle your fancy. I think you should work it in
there about Brian Finlay. It's good, it's good. Uh. And

(01:19:49):
then Ryan writes, didn't meet uh And this was to
Brian Finley, didn't me at Chich look like plank show
getting knocked the bleep out without any attempt to engage
in a fight. But we haven't talked about UFC yet.
That was a fascinating night of UFC fights. Oh my gosh.
Me and Chich made the mistake in trying to get
take down. He paid for it, and I gotta be

(01:20:11):
honest with you. I'm a little bit late to the
game and the impressive nature of Francis in Ghanu. I
am a kind of an old school UFC fan, but
I loved that. As soon as this fight wrapped up,
the immediate conversation became about John Jones. I think it

(01:20:32):
would be too I think, but I'll watch it. I'll
watch it, don't care. I just think if you want,
if you want to Torpedo's career, yeah, uh oh yeah,
and Chris celebrating teaching me whump. I had never heard
Whelm do use like that in my life. Alright, I
owe you a lot still on this NFL deal because

(01:20:52):
we've talked about what it meant for the Niners and
the Dolphins. We haven't had an Eagles conversation, nor that
trapnel who got caught up in this NASCAR mess without
having a role in it. But when we come back
to the Farmer's Insurance. Fox Sports Radio Studios, Brian Finley
previews a sweet six team matchup involving the u c
l A Bruins. Next on Fox Sports Radio. All right,

(01:21:13):
let's go final hour for us here on Fox Sports Radio.
The crew is in. That's Chris Perfette, Ryan Burr, singer,
Brian Finley, who's gonna preview the day's games for us
with a pigeonholed focus on u c l A Alabama
coming up in just a bit. My name is Chris Plank.
Keep the tweets coming tonight. They've been great at Plank Show.

(01:21:35):
Everybody should be following us at Fox Sports Radio. Just
waking up on the East coast, just getting out of
work on the West coast. What have you missed so far?
Complete recap of the Sweet six team games from earlier tonight.
We've got Baylor and Arkansas moving on in an Elite
eight showdown on Monday. This is so weird for me,
by the way, to figure out the nights. I know
that it's such a petty thing, but being an old

(01:21:56):
school Thursday Friday guy, to try to figure out these
games are now Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday anyway, Star time
on Monday for Baylor and Arkansas. That'll be the late game.
That will be a nine thirty Eastern tip time between
Baylor and Arkansas. The early game seven o'clock Eastern Oregon

(01:22:17):
State in Houston. We've got four games to preview today
coming up. I've been trying to get all in on
the big trade that took place this weekend in the NFL.
Due to the constraints to the broadcast clock, we've had
things that have been interrupting it just a bit. So
we've talked about what it means for the Niners moving
up to three, in which direction we think they're going,
and of course the Dolphins. Now does it position them

(01:22:38):
to make a move for Russell Wilson. Does it position
them to make a move for Deshaun Watson? Is Deshaun
Watson even a conversation in the NFL trade market right now?
Or are they sold on to? Uh? We owe you
some Eagles conversation? What it means for the teams that
aren't involved in this deal, Plus the best story in
sports that nobody is talking about. It all coming up

(01:23:00):
in a busy final hour as we come to you
live from the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios. Call
one eight and eight Farmers to switch and you could
save big on your auto insurance. It's really the best
thing you can do with your phone in a few minutes.
Just call one eight eight Farmers and start saving today.
We are all right, that's a lot of laying out

(01:23:22):
things that are coming up. Let's get after it. Brian Finley,
you're up. Are you ready? Let's go u c l
A Alabama coming up a little bit later on this afternoon. First,
before we dive into the nuts and bolts of it,
how do you schedule out your time now when you
get done, is it nap time or are you just
gonna start doing your six podcast. I mean, what do

(01:23:45):
you do here? As soon as you're done, you know,
I will go to sleep and I will wake up
before tip time. Thank goodness, it is the third game
of the day. And then hopefully we can finish out
with a U c l A win and then yes,
I can't believe I'm saying this, but if USC then
wins in the following game after that, we would have
four teams in the no excuse me, three So we

(01:24:09):
have we have Oregan State and any State. Yea, so
we yeah, so three Max, And who would have thought
that this would have been a possibility even just a
couple of weeks ago. But yeah, so I have plenty
of time to go and get some rest and then
be fixated on the television. So before we talk about
that scheduled four fifteen tip Pacific time between U c

(01:24:29):
l A and Alabama, you said earlier that you haven't
really been surprised by what Oregon State has done. Meanwhile,
I've been trying to google Wayne hinkel uh and learn
Wayne Tinkle excuse me, and learn a little bit more
about him. I've been trying to learn a lot about
this overall kind of roster for Oregon State, stole a
bid in the Pack twelve tournament. But Brian Finley Packed

(01:24:52):
twelve aficionado, you're telling me it shouldn't be much of
a surprise right now with the way things went down
the stretch form. No, it should not be a surprise
based upon the depth they have. And Ethan Thompson is
the guy we've been talking about. He leads the team
in scoring. He is a senior, and there have been
a couple of years where he had flirted with going
to the NBA but decided to come back. So you

(01:25:13):
have the senior leadership and a guy who is so
innovative on the offensive ent. He can corkscrew his way
into the lane, he can nail the three ball. And
what I love about this team and especially Ethan Thompson,
is they make their free throws and that hurt U
c l A. In their matchup against Oregon State in

(01:25:33):
the quarterfinals of the Pac twelve Attorney you might remember
Chris we had and I say we but as a
u c l A fan, Jules Bernard was on the
free throw line with a couple of seconds left in
the second half, down one against Oregon State. U c
L against Organ State, if Jules Bernard makes both of
those free throws. That gives u c l A the

(01:25:54):
lead and probably the win, eliminates Oregon State from the
quarterfinals of the Pack twelve tournament. And they are not
getting into the Double A tournaments unless they win it all.
And so Jules Bernard went one of two from the line.
That's the story. This is an Oregan State team that
when they get to the line, they thrive. They made

(01:26:15):
ten more free throws against u c l A in
the second half of their quarterfinal game. And I pointed
out what Thompson has done in his last two games
in the n C Double A Tournament twenty three of
twenty four from the line. That is critical. That is
a recipe to win. If I've ever heard one, unreal
unreal I heard that stad They were talking about it
on out Outside the Line, is what I'm saying. Straight

(01:26:38):
out of Vegas a little bit earlier with Bernie Fratto
and the crew. Uh, It's incredible to think just how
efficient this Oregon State team has been. By the way,
my other favorite note from Straight out of Vegas was
that Loyalist Chicago and Organ stated actually played once. It
was in nineteen seven sister Jean was eight years old.

(01:26:59):
Regard less they move on Oregon States in the Sweet sixteen,
excume in the elitian, okay l A, what I need
to be looking forward today for the Bruins to potentially
knock off Alabama East to the game Brian Finley style.
Here is what is going to happen and what u
c l A needs to key in on. First of all,
Alabama shoots the most three balls in Division one basketball,

(01:27:21):
So they are gonna be raining threes, or at least
they're gonna be jacking them up. They made sixteen threes
in an n c Double A Tournament game already, and
so you c l A cannot find themselves going back
and forth from three point land. What it's gonna come
down to, and something that mccron and the Bruins said,
coach has said is that not only is this a

(01:27:43):
game against two contrasting schemes with you have a Obama
team that loves to push, but as good as they
are offensively, Chris, they also are so strong on the
offensive glass, and you c l A has to worry
about the inside out game if they're on defense and
they can't allow second chance opportunities. If there's one thing

(01:28:05):
to to focus in on this game, if you're U
c l A's defense, you have to go one and
done if your BAMA on offense. If you don't, this
game is over and the depth of Alabama is going
to be problems some. But it's the guys inside herb Jones,
the SEC player of the Year, is going to feast
in the middle, and if he can dominate on the boards,

(01:28:28):
it's gonna be problem because what could happen if that happens.
It's just like what happened to Houston and how they
were able to own the boards against Syracuse in Saturday's
Sweet sixteen game, and that would spell doom for the Bruins.
U c l A fourteenth in the nation, averaging only
ten point seven turnovers per game. The ball security in

(01:28:49):
the n C Double A Tournament has been even better,
what six point seven turnovers per game. Now, again, I
think what we learned is maybe Abilene Christian not very
good about basketball. But still they beat Texas kind of
out physical them. U c l A win and just
pounded them. So I can't I can't disrespect the path

(01:29:09):
to get here. I mean, b y U pushed Gonzaga
in the West Coast Conference Finals. Michigan State was a
team that everyone talks. All Michigan State needs is a chance.
I don't know about you, Brian, but I kind of
find the disrespect for what U c l A has
done as far as their path is concerned to be
a little bit frustrating at times. Let me put it

(01:29:30):
this way, and this is something that U c l
A basketball coach mccronin has said the national media when
it comes to the disrespect. I kind of agree with
cronan here and that it's not so much disrespect, it's
just the fact that you're indifferent because you don't really care,
you don't really know what's going on. You refuse to

(01:29:52):
really spend time on the West Coast. And here's a
big thing, Chris, is that on the West coacht you
talk about schools in California and in Oregon, in Washington.
The COVID nineteen protocols last summer were so strict that
there was a six month period. And I can speak
just for U c l A, but I think all

(01:30:13):
the West Coast schools in the Pac twelve are like this.
The Bruins were not able to meet from the shutdown
in March where they were not able to finish the
Pac twelfth tournament, and six months there was a six
month chunk where they could not meet with anything together
on campus or whatnot. Their teams all over the country
in other states where they were meeting and having workouts

(01:30:34):
during the summer. Here in California, you couldn't do that.
So all of these teams were looked upon early on
in their seasons as sluggish. It's because they didn't have
as much time to play together. And now that they have,
you're seeing how well they are going in plug plug.
They were underestimated because they weren't given the same amount

(01:30:55):
of time to play together when the COVID nineteen rules
were so strict. What the government in trying to protect
the people? I tweeted this a couple of weeks ago. Well,
I what am I saying a couple of weeks ago?
Last week? Because I loved what our partner here on
Fox Sports Radio, Jeff Schwartz said, when talking about, Hey,
why has there been so little buzz about the Pack

(01:31:16):
twelve and how have they been able to do what
they've done? I mean, think think about this. If we
just take a broad look in the n c Double
A Tournament, right, Everyone expected the Big ten in the
Big twelve to to be the teams that we're talking
about with, you know, maybe two teams, three teams that
can move on to the Elite eight. No one expected
Oklahoma State to get beat by Oregon State. No one

(01:31:37):
expected Texas to not be in this situation with a
match up against Alabama at No one expected U c
l A To have to beat happening Christian game there. Right.
But but I love this what Jeff Schwartz said, And
I'll lay these out and then we'll we'll wrap it
up with this. Previous year's success wasn't there, right? And
even though I think that it's I I had forgotten
that Kansas was the number one overall seat in a

(01:31:59):
lot of people's lines heading into last year's conference tournaments
prior to the selection Sunday. That never happened. So I
don't know if I buy that as much, because I
don't think many of us remember what was going on
last year in college basketball before it shut down unless
you're a fan of the team. But to this year
started slow. Teams to the Pack twelve started slow. Oregon
had injuries in covid U c l A had opt out,

(01:32:21):
plus it's best player hurt. They beat up on each
other in the conference. In Arizona was ineligible for the postseason.
And and again I'm not saying this to where Arnie
can hear it, but at least with Arizona, it's a
truly no name out of the Pack twelve and they've
just basically been clowned all year long. So you buy
into kind of those reasons why the Pac twelve is
so underappreciated headed into the big dance, Yeah, I buy

(01:32:43):
into those. I also think that because the Pac twelve
football had such a down year the prior season, did
I feel that in a way subconsciously that trickled itself
into the sentiments of the back twelve basketball state of
of that, And then also I will have to to
add on to Jeff that how strict the government's COVID

(01:33:04):
nineteen protocols were for the Pac twelve schools up and
down the West coast here, it put these teams well
up against it with other teams across the country who
had more time to work out last summer. Agreed, agreed,
Hey when we come a great stuff, right? I mean, well, listen,
I don't want to break yet. I want to ask
one more thing. Give me an X factor. This is

(01:33:24):
my favorite conversation. When we're talking about any sports game, matchup,
any sports game, one of my twelve. When we're talking
about any event, football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, you name it.
I love a player that nobody's really talking about. Give
me a guy from U c l A that needs
to have a big game if they're gonna win. I
think a guy that needs to have a big game
is Jake Kiman. Here is a man who doesn't play

(01:33:47):
a lot of defense, who could easily be complaining about
his lack of playing time. All this guy does, Chris,
he comes in and he fires off threes. That's all
he does. He is a three point specialist. He nailed
two threes, had eight points in the first half against
Apple and Christian When the game was close early on
and there was that separation that the Bruins were able

(01:34:08):
to get, it was in large part because of Jake Kiman.
He doesn't play a lot of defense. He looks like
he's kind of lost and on his heels when trying
to guard a bigger man. But if he can get
hot matching an Alabama team that loves to shoot the three.
That is a good recipe for U c l A.
When we come back to the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Good stuff for Brian Finley. He'll be covering

(01:34:29):
that U c l A matchup against Alabama coming up
later today, we'll continue our preview of the other Sweet
Sixteen games. Plus, we still owe you more NFL talk
because we know what this means for the Niners moving
up to three, right they're getting a quarterback. We have
an idea what it means for the Dolphins moving back
and then moving back up, getting picks, maybe trying to

(01:34:51):
make a move, maybe getting the best player available. But
what's the plan in Philly. We'll dive into it next
here on Fox Sports Radio. Chris play again for Jason
Martin on Fox Sports Radio. It is a Sunday morning
game day for college basketball fans. Yes, here's your schedule.
I'll deal in Eastern time since it's five twenty one

(01:35:15):
Eastern time. Creighton and Gonzaga will get things going at
two ten pm Eastern time. That's on CBS. Zags are
a thirteen and a half point favorite. Florida State in Michigan,
which is uh actually the only game in which the
higher seeds are scaring off against each other. I mean,
don't get me wrong, Creighton and Gonzaga has won five

(01:35:37):
so that's not that far off. But you get a
one four matchup in Florida State Michigan. That's a five
o'clock tip. That's gonna be on CBS as well. Seven
fifteen Eastern time, U c L at Alabama the tighter
a six and a half point favorite, and then the
nightcap at Eastern. We'll be covering that with Arnie spani

(01:35:58):
and myself here on Fox Sports IDEO Oregon and U
s C. Those latter two games are on TVs. What
more on the college basketball schedule coming up at the
bottom of the hour with Brian Finlay. Okay, listen, before
I get back to the NFL, and before I get
to the best story that nobody is talking about, Chris Perfett,
I have not necessarily been all in on a cargo

(01:36:22):
ship that is somehow stuck in the Suez Canal. So
can you cliff notes this ever given every day thing
that's going on right now? Okay, my, what is basically like,
how have you not seen this because the entire interne
it I've seen it, but I'm not necessarily all in
on the the the who, what, when, where, why? And

(01:36:45):
I guess most importantly, how so do I need to
explain what the Suez Canal like the we don't listen,
we don't have to go back to the birth of
the child here. I just kind of but I'm like,
I need people to understand the Suez Canal. Like all
you to get between the Mediterranean and the Gulf and
the Persian Gulf, you're going to have and like the

(01:37:05):
Indian Ocean, you're gonna have to go through the Suez Canal.
So I understand understand that first. Understand that first before
we get here. So anyway, the Suez Canal is very
narrow and the ever given is a Supermax car. It's
it's one of the largest container ships in the world. Actually,
from what I read it is a huge, huge, huge ship.
So it uh. I think on the twenty three of

(01:37:28):
March it entered the Suez Canal under poor visibility. I
think when I was told there's a sandstorm that was
going on and it ran aground and then it got
turned sideways while it kind of ran aground so this
thing is stuck in the Suez Canal. It doesn't look
like it's stuck much, but it is properly You've got

(01:37:49):
to imagine how much that ship is kind of under
under the I don't know the proper nautical term, but
you know what I mean, it's kind of under under
the water itself. That is stuck run aground. They've tried
every tug tug boat they have to try to get
it out. It can't budge, they can't just back it up.
They have back hose out there trying to widen the

(01:38:10):
Suez Canal. It's happening, It's not happening. And this is
one of the major trade routes in all of global
shipping for for naval frame. Well, you tell this story.
I'm looking at all the memes right now, really getting
caught up on the front of this. My favorite, My
favorite is reject modernity embraced tradition. As you're now seeing

(01:38:31):
every ship on vessel finder, which tracks you know, all
the ships in the world. Now everyone is now having
to basically go around the Horn of Africa to get
basically between the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean or
the Mediterranean Sea. It is a massive problems. Billions are
being lost by the by the day with this ship

(01:38:54):
stuck in the Suez Canal, because it's completely altering global commerce.
And I know, like I Kea is already saying like, yeah,
a lot of stuff is gonna be probably delayed because
we're talking about a major thruway in the Like imagine
the Panama Canal had this problem and someone got stuck
there and it's like, Okay, you want to go between
the Atlantic and the Pacific, You've got to go around

(01:39:15):
Cape Horn. Man. I'm looking at some of these beyond
the trying to get this thing out. By the way,
no one has any eye, no nobody. They're they're trying,
you like, why they're trying to tug about it. They
can't seem to get this thing free. Uh they actually,
I mean, wow, it's just stuck. There's no way around

(01:39:38):
it right now. Good luck, good luck to the Evergreen
and trying to get out of this. Uh. The owners,
the Japanese owners of the ship, they said I and
I say that very slowly every single time because I
know we're in a safe harbor, but still I don't
want to have to use the dumb button. I want
to stay and defeated there. But originally they said, oh,
we'll have this thing out by Saturday. Meanwhile everyone else
is like, bro, who got like weeks before? This thing

(01:40:01):
is going to be out of the Suez Canal right now,
so bravo, bravo. How many how many ships do they
say are actually stuck? I'm sitting here reading there are
a ninety plus vessels that will roll through the Suez
Canal on a daily basis. The blockage is costing four
hundred million dollars per hour. Lloyd's List also estimates the

(01:40:26):
value of cargo goods passing through the canal every day
at nine point seven billion dollars on average, with five
point one billion traveling west and four point six billion
traveling east. Ninety here's the number I brought up. Ninety
three ships travel through the canal, which means for the

(01:40:46):
four day blockage, nearly four hundred ships routes have been blocked.
It's also forced some ships as Chris Perfectes brought up
to reroute and instead make the long, dangerous and call
costly journey around Africa's southern tip. I want to know
what that's in miles? How many miles is that if

(01:41:08):
you get rerouted to go around the tip of Africa
instead of through the Suez, it's a lot and it
says dangerous because you know you're going around South Africa.
You drift too far south, you're gonna start being in
Antarctic waters, So not good. All right? I learned. I
learned two things tonight, I really did. I learned that
whelmed can be used in talking about how you feel
about something, not overwhelmed or underwhelmed. And I am now

(01:41:31):
completely and totally informed with that awesome cliff notes version
of what's going on right now the Suez Canal every night.
We're here to educate, We're here to shape the minds,
and that's what we're doing. All right, real quick, before
Brian Finley's update, let's talk about the Eagles as we
shift back to this trade. We've spent the better part
of the last hour and a half going through what
it meant for the Niners, what it means for the Dolphins,

(01:41:54):
Eagles fans. Let's have a Jalen Hurts conversation when we
come back, right, because where's your belief in the sky?
Is the roster built for success around him? You know?
I know everyone looks ahead to next year and they think,
oh my gosh, the Eagles could have three first round
picks in two their own, the Dolphins and the Colts.
If Carson Wentz plays the snaps or what is it

(01:42:16):
se and they make the playoffs. I'm here to tell you,
as a fan, with the team that had three first
round picks, that's not necessarily a guarantee of success. The
Raiders had three first round picks, haven't had a winning
season since, and I'd still rather have Amari Cooper running
routes and Khalail Matt getting after the quarterback. Now. I

(01:42:37):
know that in this instance, all it's really cost the
Eagles is what a bad season and a quarterback that
they had kind of given up on. But when you're like,
oh my gosh, they have three they have three first
that doesn't mean anything. It really doesn't unless you draft well.
So I I wonder what the Eagles. And this has
been my constant thought with the Philadelphia Eagles. This isn't

(01:42:59):
anything I just came up with yesterday. I've said this
from day one. Does this put them in a position
to where they make a move for DeShawn Watson? Do
they step back and say and I guess in Howie
Roseman's mind, it's it's all about and Jeffrey Lori. It's
whether or not we have that belief in Jalen Hurts,
which again we'll get to that conversation out to the

(01:43:19):
bottom of the hour. But now you're starting to look
at some draft capital. Got a couple of young players
that might be attractive to a Houston Texan team, and
it's a Houston Texan team that, let's face it, you
just don't know what your future is with Deshaun Watson
beyond just the football side of things. So you're sitting
at twelve, if you're Philly, You're still gonna get a

(01:43:41):
good talent. You're not gonna get an elite talent, maybe
like you would have had at six, depending on how
the board's fall, maybe you still end up with a
shot at of Micah Parsons. Maybe you end up with
one of the playmaking receivers. Now that it appears as
that's an area that needs to be rebuilt on the Eagles,
but I just of all the teams that made moves,
I get the Dolphins, I get the forty Niners. I

(01:44:04):
don't get what the Eagles are doing it just makes
no sense to me whatsoever. And I'll continue to go
in depth because part of that might be my lack
of belief in what they have at the quarterback position.
But before we go all in there for one final
time with me this morning, Brian Finley gets it's caught
up on everything in the world of sports. What's going on,
be Finley, College basketball is what is going on? Chris.

(01:44:27):
We had four Sweet sixteen nt Double A Tournament games
on Saturday. We've got four more later today. But let's
get back to the ones that took place on Saturday.
Houston suffocating Syracuse with its chaos causing defense on the
way to a sixty two to forty six victory. Oranges
Buddy Behind was confined to twelve points on three of

(01:44:48):
thirteen shooting, and the Orange as a team failed to
shoot above thirty percent. So the Cougars now make it
to the Elite eight for the first time in thirty
seven years, and they will have a rendezvous with Oregon
State because the Beavers with a methodical takedown of Loyal
or Chicago on Saturday sixty to fifty eight. Ethan Thompson

(01:45:10):
had twenty two points. The senior always filling it up,
went eight for eight from the free throw line, and
then Jared lucas teammate, dropped in a clutch three at
a critical juncture. Here's Beaver's head coach Wayne Tinkle applauding
his team's on wavering confidence after the game can stop.
There's no doubt in our guys minds. They really believe

(01:45:31):
that this is their time. It's what we said before
we left the locker room. You know that we're not
gonna get rattled. This is our time. It's meant to be.
Let's go play ball. They were all very, very calm
through it all. Arkansas appeared composed as they overcame a
second half double digit deficit to take down the fifteen
seated Oral Roberts seventy two to seventy. Davante Davis hit

(01:45:51):
the game winner late, and the Razorbacks get Baylor in
the regional final, the one seated Bears unloading offensively on
Villanova in the second half and getting the win sixty
two to fifty one. The Bears forced sixteen turnovers. In
the NBA, the Clippers punk the Seventies six or one
twenty two to one twelve Kwhite, Leonard twenty eight points

(01:46:12):
as the clip show has won five in a row,
and quickly looking forward to later today with those Sweet
sixteen the second half of the slate of Sweet sixteen games,
we started as Chris. Chris mentioned Gonzaga and Creighton to
ten eastern. Then it's followed by Michigan and Florida State
at five p m Eastern. Alabama U C l A
would then follow that, and then the nightcap USC and Oregon,

(01:46:36):
a battle of two pack twelve teams, and Chris, as
I sent it back to you, it sounds like that's
a game that is in this the time slot of
when you and Arnie will be on the here on
Sunday Sports Radio. Arnie Spaniel will be telling us about
the greatness of the Pack twelve during that I don't
know though. Here here's what's interesting to me, because you know,

(01:46:58):
usually the people that have conference pride or maybe overbearing,
over over the top conference pride or SEC football fans,
and by that I mean everyone who's not a fan
of Alabama, because Alabama is really the only three elite
team in the SEC. Everyone just hangs onto their coattails.
Outside of one massive run from l s U two
years ago. Now, um, yeah, I wonder if you will

(01:47:20):
be all packed twelve or if you'll be bitter that
Arizona is not here. I want to tune in to
find out. I think it's one of those situations where
you do kind of latch on right. You're like, hey,
my team might not be here, but let's go pack
twelve pack twelve pack twelve. It just means more. Bill
Walton was right, we told you sleep on us. By

(01:47:40):
the way, I think USC is gonna smoke Oregon. I mean,
I might be someone who hasn't seen enough of Oregon
this year, but every time I watch USC, I'm impressed
with him. So that'll be a fun one tonight and
we'll be talking about it. From the Farmers Insurance Fox
Sports Radio studios, call one, eight and eight Farmers to

(01:48:02):
switch and you could save a bundle on your auto insurance. Okay,
I don't know what the Eagles are doing, and I
don't have any idea what they've been doing for the
better part of the last two years. And I get
it that maybe Carson Wentz not maybe Carson Wentz hasn't

(01:48:24):
been what we thought he was going to be. Right,
Carson Wentz has been for lack of a better term,
and absolute bust in Philly. So you make the move,
you end up getting a future first round pick, what
a third round pick this year, So you feel pretty
good about what you got in return, But yet, what
do you have at quarterback? Now You're starting to get

(01:48:46):
mixed signals as to whether or not they're actually going
to build around Jalen Hurts. Rob Maddie, who covers the
Eagles for the Associated Press, said on Twitter this week, quote,
the Eagles are unsure about Jalen Hurts. No consensus in
the building. After beating the Saints, they wanted to get
rid of Carson Wentz. After the next three losses, they

(01:49:10):
wanted to work it out with Carson. After trading Carson,
they considered a trade up for a QB before trading
down to twelve. So here's my thoughts on Jalen Hurts.
And again I come at this from a pretty unique perspective.
I covered Jalen for a year and I like Jalen Hurts.
Jalen Hurts is a great leader. Jalen Hurts is the

(01:49:31):
kind of guy that you want in your locker room.
But I don't know if he's my starting quarterback in
the NFL. I'll take this for instance, the average. All right,
this is the average. The average completion percentage for an
NFL quarterback is sixties six point four percent. Do you

(01:49:55):
want to know how many games when Jalen Hurts has
thrown ten or more asses his completion percentage was at
six it's zero. In fact, that game that everyone talks
about when they pulled they pulled Jalen from the game.
They're tanking. They put in Nate Sudfield. The dude was

(01:50:18):
seven of twenty for seventy two yards and had thrown
a pick. Not granted, he can run the football, and
he runs the football differently than most NFL quarterbacks. Right.
Most NFL quarterbacks when they run the football are getting
open space, Boom, get down. Jalen Hurts is different. You know,
he's gonna he's gonna talk, and he's gonna try to

(01:50:39):
run you over. It's it's a different mindset. I love it.
I love his mindset. But you can't be a one
dimensional quarterback if your expectation is to win a championship.
And Jalen Hurts hasn't proven to be an accurate passer yet.
So I agree with this from Pro Football Talk, and
we'll hit on this quick like the will move on.

(01:51:01):
There are three types of teams in the NFL, those
with true franchise quarterbacks, and I think there's more than
a handful of those. We could go through the list,
but we did that two shows ago. I'm saving it
if I have to fill in again next week. Number
two those who are desperately looking for a true franchise quarterback.
And then three, those who have a quarterback who may

(01:51:23):
or may not become a franchise quarterback. Now I would
add there's a fourth category there where they have a
quarterback that they feel like that they can build around
but can't win games by themselves. There's only I mean,
I don't even know if there's a quarterback that you
could say, oh, he he's got okay receivers, he can
get it done. I just I don't know if that
exists anymore in the NFL. The Eagles are in category three.

(01:51:44):
I think, just based on the bus that's out there.
They have a quarterback who may or may not be
a franchise quarterback. They spent a second round pick on him.
I'll tell you the one thing if I'm an Eagles
fan that gets me excited about the potential of Jalen Hurts.
Beyond looking at the numbers. Here's what gets me excited
about Hurts. He's improved every year and in every year

(01:52:06):
that he's been given more of an opportunity, He's proven
that he can improve in the areas where he struggled.
When when Jalen Hurts left Alabama, what was the knock? Dude,
can't throw the ball. He can't be in an offense
where you can sling it around the field. What happened
when he went to Oklahoma? He proved that he could
be in an offense while in a lot of ways

(01:52:28):
forcing Lincoln Rally to adjust what he did with his
offense and allow more physical runs for his quarterbacks. He
showed that he could throw the football. First year in Philly,
I don't know if he can win games in the NFL.
What did he do? He won games in the NFL. Now,
he won one game as a starter in the NFL,

(01:52:48):
but still he got better from the guy that he
was at Oklahoma. So to me, if you're Philly with
three potential first round picks next year, even though again
you have to hit on one of those, if not two,
or all three. You've given yourself a one year cushion
to truly see what Jalen Hurts can do. If he
continues to make this leap from year to year, all right,

(01:53:12):
maybe you got yourself a dude. If he doesn't and
you end up having to start, gasp, Joe Flacco, then
we're talking about a situation where you're if you're an
Eagles fan, you're probably watching a lot of North Carolina
football this year to see what Sam How's up to
our hell, even Oklahoma football, to see if Spencer Rattler

(01:53:32):
can be your guy in Philly in two. I think
it's going to be a fascinating season in Philadelphia. And
I don't know what they're up to. I don't know
what they're trying to do, but I'll tell you what
if they want to make a run and DeShawn Watson,
and it's surprising to me in all these quarterback moves,
nothing has been bitched on that. And I think there's

(01:53:54):
some other issues to Shaun's worrying about now, which if
we have time, we'll get to in our final segment,
but fascinating stuff and what the Eagles could potentially do
at the quarterback situation. Meanwhile, real quick, there's three teams
that weren't involved in this deal but are affected. In
my opinion, Carolina, I think prefet you hit on this earlier. Right.
The Carolina Panthers have made it clear they want to

(01:54:15):
upgrade the quarterback position. Most teams are a little bit
clandestine about it. Not the Carolina Panthers. They've been pretty
open about wanting to get a franchise quarterback. I don't
know if that franchise quarterback is going to be there
for Carolina when they drafted number eight. You're not of
the belief that Detroit's getting a quarterback at seven, right.

(01:54:36):
That's not happening, is it? No? I think I think
between again between we could see three quarterbacks flying off
the board. I'm not writing out the possibility, but we're
gonna see at least three quarterbacks fly off the board
before it even hits. Atlanta and Detroit just restructure Jared
Costs Jared Goff's contract, and they have they have like

(01:54:59):
I don't even I don't think they have any wide
receivers and more than like a one year deal right now.
It's he would blow my mind off. The Lions don't
draft a receiver or defense in the top of this draft.
So with that in mind, if you start looking at
the draft in your Carolina, do you with this deal

(01:55:21):
now and the forty nine is jumping in front of you?
Do you have a conversation with the Jets to try
to get up to two of Zach Wilson is your guy?
Do you call the Falcons to make sure you can
get up to four to make sure that you can
get whoever has left there at four? Or do you
sit at eight and you see if Mac Jones ends

(01:55:43):
up falling to you, because that's the guy that Matt
Rule coached at the Senior Bowl, that they might be
comfortable with that ends up falling to you at eight.
I think that there's a scenario where Mac Jones and
I'm not a big fan, but I don't know if
he's there at eight. So to me, Carolina is a

(01:56:03):
team that's affected by this. The other two real quick,
the Atlanta Falcons, they're sitting at four. If the Jets
decided to stay at two, that is an incredibly lucrative
spot to either allow a team like Caroline or someone
else to trade up or for you to go ahead
and get the air apparent to Matt Ryan. And then finally,
I think the biggest winner in all of this is

(01:56:26):
the Cincinnati Bengals who sit at number five and now
they can have their choice or the best receiver or
the best offensive lineman in the draft. I feel like
the Bengals, outside of drafting Joe Burrow last year, have
drafted offensive linemen like every single year. Go get your playmaker. No,
go get your Jamar Chase. You got Joe Mixing in
the backfield. He's back. You've moved on from a j Green.

(01:56:46):
Boy's been pretty impressive. Maybe it's Kyle Pitts to become
Burrow's best friend, or maybe you get his college teammate
Jamar Chase bottom line, or you get pen A Sewel
to anchor the other side of that offensive line. The
by the mine, and the most important thing is Cincinnati
now sits in a spot not needing a quarterback, to
where they can get the best available player at five.

(01:57:09):
It took us two hours and forty three minutes and
a lot of March Madness talk, but finally, finally we've
gone all the way through the different scenarios and those
affected by Friday's big moves in the National Football League.
So when we come back, I want to wrap it
up with the best story in sports that no one

(01:57:29):
is talking about. Next here on Fox Sports Radio, fun
Stuff Tonight got a last second fill in always love
this show. Love hanging out with you guys from the
Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios called Farmers Today for
a free uh for a quote Chris poer Fat running
the show. Great job tonight by Ryan Burr Shinger to

(01:57:50):
making sure that I woke up in time for this
show and be finly on updates and the complete preview
of u c l A and their show done with
Alabama to night Believe Andy. Uh wait, it's Sunday, right,
We're going into a Sunday. So Andy and Brian no
are coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio. Here's
what's on tap today if you're looking for what to watch,
what to get into? Oh do I have you covered?

(01:58:13):
Because we've got n C Double A Tournament action all
over the place. It starts at two Tin Eastern with
Craton and Gonzaga that's on CBS to Tin Gonzaga thirteen
and a half point favored. It'll be followed at five
Eastern a little bit of a bigger gap between those
two games on CBS by Florida State in Michigan. I
think it's the only matchup of like a one and

(01:58:34):
a four. I mean, Gonzag and cratons a one five,
so that actually makes some sense. But you get a
one four matchup in the sweet sixteen that's on CBS,
that's a five. Eastern Michigan is a two point favored.
Then in the evening session seven fifteen Eastern, U c
l A is at Alabama at Alabama. Listen to me.
U c l A takes on Alabama that's on TBS,

(01:58:56):
the tighter six and a half point favored. And then
tonight we'll have you covered with this on Fox Sports
Radio with Annie and myself. At n Eastern, it's Oregon
and USC on TBS. USC is currently a two point favorite.
If you're like me and maybe just maybe you're a
bit of a NASCAR fan, then today could be very

(01:59:19):
interesting as the NASCAR. Are we still the Monster Energy Series?
Are we just the Cup Series? The Cup Series races
on the dirt, the Food City Dirt Race at Bristol
Motor Speedway. That's gonna be on Fox coming up at
three thirty Eastern. I think that'll just about like do
it for things that are on tap. Today. We're less

(01:59:41):
than a week away from the start of Major League Baseball,
so we can pretend to care for a week and
go back to not caring. It's gonna be a blast.
Two stories that are my favorite stories that I don't
think anyone's talking about, and it fits perfectly in the
final two minutes that we have here on the show.
This is the best story in sports and no one
is talking about and it comes to us, Curtie courtesy

(02:00:04):
of NBA petty. And that's not like a reporter, that's
just the pettiness that tends to take place consistently in
the NBA Bleacher Reports. Jason doom Is pointed this out
this week that the icy relationship between Houston Rockets owner
Tilman for TITA and Philadelphia seventy six GM Darryl Morley

(02:00:25):
actually encouraged for TITA to send his star players two
rivals of the Sixers. James Harden went to the next Nets.
P J. Tucker went to the Bucks. Something similar happened
last week with Victor Oladipo, whom the Rockets acquired as
part of the hardened deal and then traded him to
the Miami Heat. More was the GM of the Rockets

(02:00:46):
for thirteen years but had a falling out with for Tita.
For Tita does not want to do business with Mori
and the Sixers. But according to this theorizing that he
could have attentionally sabotaged deals out of spite is fantastic.
And how about the story involving Tyson A Lulu who
was a defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had

(02:01:09):
made the decision to sign with the Jaguars, but he
couldn't travel to actually sign with him because he tested
positive for COVID. So what did he do? He had
ten days to think about it. He built a dream
home in Pittsburgh, has kids in school, and with that
ten days to think about it, he decided to stay
in Pittsburgh instead of going back to Jacksonville. Two incredible

(02:01:32):
stories that I think we're not talking about enough that
are fascinating to me. Appreciate all the tweets tonight, It's
gonna be a fun day of college basketball coverage here
on Fox Sports Radio. I'm glad we had a chance
to tip to tip it off, if you will. Brian
no and Andy Furman are next for for Fete for
Burr singer for be Finley. I'm Chris Plank. Jason Martin
back next week. I have a great Sunday. Everyone on
