Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports where Welcome to Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
I'm Alex Curry in with Martin Wise today.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon with us.

Speaker 4 (00:11):
I'm back.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Baby life has been lifing this past month. Let me
just put it that way. A huge shout out to
all the incredible women who've been filling in on the show,
who will continue to fill in once my baby girl
comes next month. But quick little life update. I had
to move three times in three weeks. I don't wish
that on anybody. That was absolutely wild, especially uh, eight

(00:35):
months pregnant. That's not a fun thing to do.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Eire. You're talking to me, Martin.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
That sounds horrible, dude.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
It was.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
We had mold remediation in our house.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
It's just like I haven't moved in thirteen years, and
then I moved three times in three months. Absolutely wild. Thankfully,
everything's fine. I just laughed through the chaos. It was
the best remedy that you can do.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
And we're back.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
We're back, We're back home, we're back working. I'm so
happy to be back. And we're gonna dive into all
of it today because you guys, I've been out for
a minute, and I have some thoughts. We'll hit MLB.
It's uh, it's O Tawny Day, Happy o' tanny day.
It's his first start on the road. He's about to
hit them mound. They're in Kansas City right now, so
we'll get to that a little later after he finishes
his outings. He's only gone an inning in his first

(01:20):
two outings, but they've been positive and they've gotten better
each time.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Faster. You've hit one hundred like hisv.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Lo's insane, which is again at this point after his
second Tommy John non Tommy John surgery, because I still
don't want.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
To like say it was that, but it was.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
He's doing incredible and of course, like a little pregame
to that. Last night he hit his twenty ninth home run,
so he's just like in Fuego, he's leading the National
League in home runs.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Like this, give me a better player right now. I don't.
You can't. It's insane. We're gonna hit the NBA.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Oh go come back.

Speaker 6 (01:56):
A few people say, Aaron Judge in New York. I
have to say, there's there's an argument, but Aaron Dudgeons
is about the pitch too.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Innings well, yeah, and we'll get to that a little later,
because I would love to have you come at me
with that o'h.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Come right back. We's have right back.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
We're gonna hit the NBA honestly better finals than expected,
and that's all you can ask for. At this point,
NBA Draft came and went Cooper Flag. Can he fill
that loocal hole in Dallas? We'll get to that. NFL
is officially in their their summer off season, so of
course that was the perfect time for Aaron Rodgers to
let everybody know that this is pretty He's pretty sure

(02:34):
this is gonna be his last season.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
So we'll get to that a little later in the show.

Speaker 2 (02:38):

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Martin, let's start in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Let's do it, okay, because a season's officially over and
you got to tip your hat huge congrats to the
champs okay See winning their first title as the Thunder
in Oka See.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Congrats to Shake Gillis.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Alexander first player since Lebron James in twenty thirteen to
win the regular season MVP and Finals MVP in the
same season. Now, the Thunder were the best team in
the league all season, with the best records sixty eight
wins franchise record. Now were they flashy and exciting? Not really,
but they won and as I said moments ago, honestly.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
It was a ended up being a good finals. I
think better than we all expected.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
If we get a game seven, which is like the
best thing that can happen in sports, something's going right right.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
It was the most watched Finals game in six years.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
People can complain all they want. I was curious to
see the ratings because obviously it's one of the first
times it's like two smaller market teams, you don't have
big star power. There wasn't a lot of flashy stories
going into it, Like Haliburton's dad was kind of like
one of the big flashy stories going in When like

(04:06):
that's what you're reaching for. It's tough, but viewership for
the full postseason finals was up ten percent from last year.

Speaker 6 (04:17):
Well especially too it goes on seven games, so as
this as the progresses, the story builds. But honestly, from
a basketball standpoint, I didn't have I thought.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
It was fine, Like, yeah, it was good, excited. I
like sports.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
You're a hardcore fan though this and this is kind
of like how I tried to explain it to like,
because I hang out with a lot of fifty fifty
sports fans, where like, you know, they get it and
it's on, but the finals were on, and you're like, oh,
oh cool, look the finals are on the background, instead
of being like, Okay, let's plan our day around where
we're going to be right when it starts.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
We're gonna get the best table we got to have.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Like that was kind of the difference between I think
the hardcore has.

Speaker 6 (04:58):
Sometimes you go see a big movie and it's a disappointment.
Like you go see a movie that's supposed to be
some break blockbuster and then you go watch a movie
that you've never heard of before that's in like Parasite,
it's in Korean. I'm reading the subtitles. All of a sudden,
it's the best movie I've ever seen. In my life,
and I had never heard of it before, Nobody ever talked.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
About it, and I walked in and random turned it on.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
Yeah, so that's the way I look at the games.
It's like, you know, I'm excited to just go go
to the movies.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
No, I was there too, And I became a big
Tyrese Haliburton fan throughout this this whole run. I love
a good underdog story and I love a good just.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Let me prove you wrong story.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, heartbreaking end of the season for Halle tearing
his achilles in the first quarter kind of, I mean that.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Sealed the deal.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Pacers kept it close in the first half, but you're
not winning a Game seven without your star player, Like,
it's just it's not gonna happen. Who was your pick,
Like at the start of this series, did you see
it going to game seven?

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Did you have OKAC in seven?

Speaker 4 (05:57):
No? I thought that the Pacers are actually gonna win.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
I thought they have a little bit more experiencing and
they just had more experience and we're in a better position.
But honestly, at this point, the bigger thing to me
was when you're thinking about the way that this finals
was received, the Thunder are just boring.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
It's not flashy, it's not exciting.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
It's not different. It's a difference between flashy and exciting.
Like they're the the opposite of They're not just neutral.
They are boring, aggressively and intentionally boring. They like even
in the celebration they said, like Shay said, hey, guys,
act like we've been here before. You literally haven't been
here before. It's a bunch of losers who I've just

(06:41):
won a championship because they need to go celebrate. That's
the problem. That's the biggest problem to me. It's all
year this I'm too cool for school attitude out of
the Thunder. I get it, like they want to be
mature and all this, and I hear it, but it
just bothers me because the thing is, like, I don't
I care about this stuff.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
I think you should too.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Well, A lot of people invest a lot of time
into this, into them, into the season, into just like
like you said, caring, it's a lot of energy going
into the Thunder and the season and the winning whole process.
I yeah, they're the team that did like the funny
like postgame as someone who's getting interviewed. They come over

(07:24):
and put the towels on everybody's head. Yeah, that's about
as much excitement and personality that you saw out of
this team all season.

Speaker 6 (07:32):
I mean, that's it, and that's it, and you know what, Hey, look,
if you don't want to pop the bottles in.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
The locker room, that's fine. If that's not if that's
not your.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Shay they not did they not pop bottles in the
locker room.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
They barely did. They didn't even know how to do it.

Speaker 6 (07:44):
Alex Caruso to lead the charge, but but no, I
just don't understand how like, do something else fun, do
something else fun, do anything fun?

Speaker 4 (07:57):
You go paintball does put that on and so.

Speaker 6 (08:00):
That celebration but it's just kind of Yeah, I just
and the and Jokich before them. I just don't understand
it when guys who seem to have worked all this
time like celebrate have fun because it shows that we
all care.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yeah, I like that.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Well, now we turn the page and get excited for
next year. The NBA Draft came and went this week,
and Cooper Flag, as we all thought and knew, went
number one to the MAVs.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
This guy is the real deal.

Speaker 7 (08:26):
Now.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
I got a chance to interview him when he was
out in.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
LA accepting his would An award, And this kid lives
to play ball.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
It's all he wants to do, he told me.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Because obviously it was right after uh March Madness and
his college season had kind of come to an end.
But his family had to force him to take a
break after March Madness before getting him ready for the
NBA Draft and the season. He's like, all I want
to do is play basketball. That's it all I want

(08:58):
to do. And I'm like, well, are you going to
like are you going to do anything?

Speaker 7 (09:01):
Like?

Speaker 2 (09:02):
You know, rest in between, He's like, I don't want to,
but my agent and family are forcing me to.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
Well it's probably a good thing because they do say
that he's a big workout monster and then he wants
to go work like that's what Jason Kidd was talking
about after his integrating press conference, that he can't wait
to go work out. And so, you know, it'll be
interesting to see how he's going to be able to
adjust because I don't know. I'm I think that he

(09:29):
will be good his first year out, I don't know
how great he will be immediately and I think that
we kind of might need to pump the brakes a
little bit on the terms of but do you know
what to be fair? In the introductory press conference, Jason
Kidd was not living. There was no breaks pumped. No,
there was no breaks pumped on his end, So why should.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
We even listening to Cooper Flag? After he got drafted,
he had a pretty good response to.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
I think it's a blessing.

Speaker 8 (09:55):
A lot of people in this position or the situation aren't,
you know, granted this opportunity. So I just feel really
blacked and grateful for the situation I've been given, and
I'm just looking forward to being a sponge, you know.
Just I'm excited to just learn I'm Soka Dolan and
learn from the guys that are older and have been
through it all before.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
And that's kind of like what he was saying to
me when I had a chance to talk to him.
He's like, I just want to get better every day.
I want to get better. Basketball's in his DNA, he
like said he first fell in love playing the game
in his driveway with his family.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Both his parents played in college.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
His twin brother is going to play at Main and
his older brother win a state championship in high school.
Like the whole family, it's a basketball family. So like
that's all he knows. And he's been breaking and setting
records his entire career. High school, he was a national
high School Player of the Year McDonald's All American.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Obviously, we saw everything that he did at Duke in college.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Like I guess now, the big question is is will
Cooper Flagg be enough to fill that Luca hole in Dallas?

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Because what Kyrie.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah, he just got his extension, but he tours ACL
in March, so he'll probably be out the first like
two and a half months of the season in back.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Around January hopefully. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
And again that's like hopefully everything that goes smoothly, no setbacks,
And it differs every time. Anthony Davis healthy now, but
he has a hard time staying healthy obviously, so it's.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Just can't can't is it enough?

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I Mean, they got as lucky as you can get
after making the biggest mistake I think in franchise history.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
I mean, but I don't know, I don't know. No,
I mean, he's absolutely not gonna to me.

Speaker 6 (11:30):
Luca Donts is one of the best five ten players
in the NBA right now, I don't think Cooper Flag
steps year one and is that but I think.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
If if hell what they say they're building in Dallas,
he should fit like.

Speaker 6 (11:43):
With with the vision of what it is and the
idea of what is their vision, like defense wins championships apparently,
I mean I'd say this, I think Cooper Flags are
better defender than Luca DUTs just right now.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
Okay, so you got that if that was your if
that was your plan, you upgraded.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
The Okay, well, let's pivot to the team that got
Luca and the Lakers, because we've been seeing so much
content of trim fit Luca, Like, I love that this
is just is this gonna be kind of like his
let me prove you wrong. New ownership, new season coming
in healthy could be lining up to be maybe the

(12:21):
best season that we've seen from Luca. Like even when
you think about it, like thick Luca, which is so
silly to say that the Maps were complaining about, Like
he was still top five player in the league. He
brought the MAVs to an NBA finals. Now he has
that added let me prove you wrong motivation. He's gonna
have a full, healthy offseason maybe training with Lebron a

(12:43):
little closer to preseason, and we saw a glimpse of
greatness and what the Lakers can be.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
If they can tap into that, they can be a
top team to beat in the West.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
I mean, Luca, first of all, you's got to get
in better shape so that he is.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
You saw that well, I mean we're seeing the we're
seeing the VISI someone one's putting it out there to
make sure we all see it, and we're talking about it.

Speaker 6 (13:03):
I mean I see pictures of the video and professional
athletes working out, Like I can't get too excited about
it because I feel like that's like watching me write
an update, Like that's that they're literally at work. That's
what they're doing at their jobs, right, So like I
can't get too excited about that.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
But if that's the one knock on his like incredible
career so far is the fitness and now we're like,
oh wow, this is It's definitely that shape we've ever
seen him in.

Speaker 6 (13:30):
It's definitely better than a video of him drinking beer
and smoking hookah. Yeah, it's definitely better than that. But
like either one would not like like make me super
worried for next year. Do you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Yeah, but like this soon in the off season, like
that's a good sign.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
And like obviously also shout out to like new Lakers ownership,
which is Dodgers ownership. We see what they're willing to
do to create championship. Teams are not afraid to spend
money like it's they're also not afraid to let go
of star players. So there's a lot more on the
line here. I think for Luca coming into next season.

Speaker 6 (14:09):
Well, sure, plus he's been now, he's been traded twice.
He was traded once on Draft night and everybody looked like,
I don't know about that. He's a big prospect. Then
you saw the success Dallas had. Everybody said it was
a big mistake in Dallas that you know, I don't
know how big of a mistaken it was, because we
could trade him too. But still it's a guy's been
traded twice that the shine comes off a little bit, Yeah,
because it's like, hey, you know, it's like my dad

(14:31):
used to tell me when I was dating, it's like
beautiful woman. If nobody else is like nobody else wants,
it's probably a sign it might be something wrong, you know,
it might be might.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Be off right, It might be has it found the
right match yet that could be true, like because that too,
we've seen great players become great on that second chance,
you know, because you need the right it all, like
the right fit matters, the right fit with the franchise,
the right fit with the coach, the right chemistry with

(15:02):
the team, like him with Lebron, like one of the
greatest players of all time, on his way out, getting
to play with his current favorite player who he's been
very vocal about, with a storied franchise.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
In a city that is desperate to love you and
to have you pick us.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Up and take us back to that championship level like that,
everything is lining up for him to be able to
have that let me prove you that I am one
of the best.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
It's just stories, it's.

Speaker 6 (15:34):
Just I think at this point, it's almost a little
bit of a redemption. It is like it is a
redemption because here's the thing. The surprise of the trade
and the way that it all happened, and the function
of how the trade happened.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
It was so shocking and surreal that nobody ever asked.

Speaker 6 (15:53):
If it was a good idea to who to the
monster to the Lakers to trade Luka Doncic in general
was no, no, no, no no. But like the concept
of trading, like I think that you could have, like
trading Luca Doncis to me was not insane. It's just
what they got back in the way that they did
it wasn't. Yeah, it's like breaking up.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
It's like getting a sending getting.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
A text divorced or a text message that's insane wild, right,
you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
That would be crazy. Yeah, right, that's insane. But it's
like that doesn't mean maybe you still should house.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
You were talking about like having kids and it like
came out of nowhere.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
But you maybe still should be together, right, Like there
may still be some underlying signs of why things may
not be going in the way they should, right. So, like,
but the process do you do it in such a
ridiculous way, It's like, well, that's absurd.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
Why would you ever consider it?

Speaker 6 (16:42):
Now if they like if they traded Luka doncies and
got five four first round picks, which you know what
I'm saying, three players back, like I could I could be.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Interested in different stories, you know, different stories.

Speaker 6 (16:53):
So that's why I think it's we have to separate
the two concepts of that is Luka donc tradable?

Speaker 4 (16:59):
I think obviously he was.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Yeah, they did, like it happened.

Speaker 6 (17:04):
Like the Nuggets president this week all came out and said,
he Jokic, you know, would never want to trade him.
Like to me, I would think that Jokic is untradeable. Yes,
right in that category right now.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
Kobe with the Lakers, sure like that was untradable. There
are certain players that are the franchise that are untradable
unless they force themselves out.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Want it, Yeah, wild, I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
All Right, We're gonna take a quick break here, but
when we come back a little more NBA because we
had our first big star on the move last week.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
That's next on Fox Sports Radio.

App, and it will always pop up at the top
of your screen.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
All right, We're gonna continue with a little more NBA
talk here because Kevin Durant is now in Houston, Wall.
I mean, the new league year begins on July six,
so officially, which is really stupid, which is just like that,
Also like doesn't make sense to me. So it's like
officially official, but like not officially official until July sixth.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
Which is dumb.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Why dum Like it already happened.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
We could just get through this.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
Like it already happened.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
It was done. Everybody's agreed to it.

Speaker 6 (19:19):
So and just honestly just changed the start of the
league year to right before the to the ten minutes
before the draft.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
So there you can wear the right hat.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Thank you, Thank you for saying that.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Now we knew that Sons were desperate to get this
deal done obviously before Jannis hit the market.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
And set the market. I love seeing the news break,
like while he.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Was on stage at Fanatics fan Fest in New York,
and his grin was just like, oh, buddy, you've been
working on this for a while, like you knew this
was coming. And he talked about he said that was
one of the places that he wanted to go. So
will he be the missing piece that the Rockets needed?
They were a great, young, exciting team all season, and

(20:00):
I mean they finished second in the West last year
but lost to the Warriors in the first round. The
good positive thing about KD is he is a pretty
He's a pretty good plug and play player.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
Sure, like you, he doesn't need much to fit in
with a new team. Obviously, we.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
We saw what he did with the Warriors. That's where
he got his titles and his MVPs.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
H didn't have.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
Didn't have success in New York, didn't have success in
Phoenix with the Suns.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
So, like, can he get back to that top tier KD?
And I don't know.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Like again, like he also needs to not like stay healthy.
He missed twenty games last season, which is like a
fourth of the season. But he's good when he's on.
He's still great. He's still a great player, and he
can be that veteran presence in a young, up and
coming locker room.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Yeah, and I don't think he has to be the
old KD on this team.

Speaker 6 (20:56):
I just think, honestly, if he just has to be
a guy you can get open and shoot the ball,
which has been something he's always been able to do. Yeah,
as long as he's able to do that, he'll be
absolutely fine. Like, there's no concern in my mind about
Kevin Durant as long as.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Like you said, able to stay healthy.

Speaker 6 (21:13):
But to me, his injuries of late have been kind
of freak accident like rolling his ankle in that in
the warm ups like that. That doesn't happen to high schoolers.
That's just a weird thing that happens. I'm not playing much.
I'm gonta putting much stock into it, but I think
he's not gonna have to play. I'll have to play
big minutes in the playoffs, obviously, but this is gonna

(21:35):
be a situation where he's not gonna have to defend
the best player. He's not going to be the tallest
guy on the floor trying to get the rebounds. He's
not going to be the guy initiating the offense often.
He's got to be the guy to catch and shoot.
And that's what at this stage in the game he's
going to.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Be great at. But he's also like not a leader
like he who cares.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
He's never been that guy.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
No, But I'm saying that works for him in this
situation because he has such a good young core of
guys on Houston. And We've talked to a lot of
people around the team involved with the team, covering the team,
and that's kind of what they keep talking about, is
just the belief in the chemistry with this young group
and what they can't do, and wanting to keep them
together and then hopefully this is just an added bonus

(22:15):
that they can bring in that doesn't mess up necessarily
that chemistry and just kind of ads maybe that little
cherry on top that they need to get over that
like playoff hump.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
Yeah, I mean, well the playoff they had went around
in the playoffs, you know, saying they.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
Well that's playoff hump. They have knocked they did not.
They just have no offense, right, they have no offense whatsoever.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
And because of that, you know, they every time they
got down the court against the Warriors, you could see
that there was just nothing. There was just nothing that
they had in that matchup. And and I think that
obviously you look at the guys that they were able
to move off of in Phoenix. Jalen Green say, moved
to Phoenix, as you say, Jalen Green and Dylan Brooks.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Those are the guys Like I just do this when
I'm watching.

Speaker 6 (23:01):
The postseason, especially in the first round, second early second round,
when the teams are incomplete, right, you know that you're
looking at you can.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Tell something you're watching like, oh, they're not gonna they're
not going to get past his round because they're missing
you can.

Speaker 6 (23:13):
Say, like they would rather have which player, which is
the player they would most like to improve in this
lineup realistically, right and when you're watching that, that would
have been Jayalen Green and Dylan Brooks in some combination
of the two.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Now you have got a top player.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Now you've got an all star, one of the all
time greats players of our time right now. So yeah,
it should be exciting. They're gonna it's gonna be a
tough it's gonna be a tough season in the West.
Next year, obviously you got the champs, Lakers are going
to be better. I think Warriors will be a little better.
And then Houston now with KD, Like this should this
should be fun? It should be it should be all right, Martin,

(23:48):
what's trending?

Speaker 6 (23:54):
The Bulls have traded point guard Lonzo Ball to Cleveland,
Isaac Korro coming back to Chicago. Sam Merrill will stay
in Cleveland on a four year, eighty I'm sorry, thirty
eight million dollar deal. Davion Mitchell will stay in Miami
on a two year, twenty four million dollar deal. Now
as Red reupps with the Timberwolves five years a one
hundred and twenty five million dollars. Ace Bailey number five

(24:15):
picking the NBA draft Wednesday. Oh I'm sorry that was
on Wednesday. Plans to report to the Utah Jazz as
expected today, Jazz representatives.

Speaker 4 (24:26):
Saying that this was always the plan for Billy to
go home and get his stuff before reporting to Utah.

Speaker 6 (24:32):
Show Hail Tani in the middle of his first or
sorry third start as a Dodger, but first road start
scoreless between the Dodgers and the Royals right now on
top of the second inning, top of the second, and
the Mets would lead. The Pirates won nothing. Top of
the second, Raise four nothing over the Orioles and to
the first, Mariners and Rangers scoreless on FS one, bottom

(24:54):
of the first, Cincinnati Leeds, San Diego one to nothing,
Saint Louis won nothing over Cleveland, and top of the second.
Bottom of the first, Red Sox with a three nothing
lead over the Blue Jays, and the top of the
second any of the Brewers lead the Rockies two to nothing, scoreless, Giants,
White Sox, and the Marlins have a two nothing lead
over the Diamondbacks. In the NHL, the Anaheim Ducks traded

(25:16):
goaltender John Gibson's all time leader and saves appearances and
starts for Anaheim. They're going to Detroit, Peter Mraz and
a draft pick going back to Anahe Alex backed us.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Martin back to I'm still listen to Fox Sports Saturday.
I'm Alex Curry here with Martin Wise. We're broadcasting live from.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
The Fox Sports Radio studios in Los Angeles, and it
is time for our first guest, NBA insider Mark mcdina.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
Thank you for joining the show, Alex, Thanks for having me.

Speaker 10 (25:43):
Martin always get to talk with you too.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
What's going on, pal Oh.

Speaker 10 (25:47):
Nothing other than lots of things on pack of the
NBA drafted free agency. It's that time of the air.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Yes it is.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Season is officially over, but as you said, there's still
a lot of talk about. I just want to go
back to the champs real quick, under most dominating team
in the regular season, picking up their first title since
moving to Oklahoma City.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
How impressed were you by the run that the Thunder
made this year?

Speaker 2 (26:11):
And I know, I don't like talking about dynasty until
you've won two and you're looking at three, because it's
got to be three to be a dynasty.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
But is this a core group that can be good
for a long time?

Speaker 11 (26:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (26:24):
Good things done pack here. As far as what I
made at the championship, wasn't surprised. I thought that they
were the favorite to win the championship, but a lot
of things had to go right. Yes, there are injuries
in the Eastern Conference landscape. You always wonder what would
happen if Tyri Salburn did an injury his achilles in
Game seven. But the thunder there are the complete team shake.
Gilgis Alexander got MVP Regular season Finals for a reason.

(26:48):
Best scorer in the league, better passer, great leader, clutch player.
They had the best defensive team in the league with
so much wing depth, they know how to create turnovers.
Geddington offense, and Joe and Williams has because I think
one of the best two way players in the NBA.
So what does this mean moving forward? I would put
them as the early favorite to repeat, and that's saying

(27:08):
something because we haven't seen a repeat champion since the
Golden State Warriors in twenty seventeen and twenty eighteen. And
there's gonna be a lot of talk, you know, these
next few weeks about second April concerns and teams having
to make tough choices. The Thunder don't need to worry
about that just yet because Jane Williams chet Holmgren are

(27:28):
still under contract for the next two years. So your
question with this core group, can they maintain it the
next two years? The answer is yes, in the short term,
not guaranteed, but there's a plausible chance that they could
make history would being the first repeat NBA team since
twenty eighteen.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
Mark, you just.

Speaker 6 (27:45):
Talked about the second egg for Mark Medina joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio, And I have a theory
because just take this walk with me for a minute.
I try not to just judge things that these executives
do is just flatly stupid. So when the Brooklyn Nets
took five guards in the first round and or four

(28:05):
guards and Danny Wolf who plays point center, I was like,
that doesn't make a lot of sense, all right.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
So the second layer, thinking with the second apron.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
As it is, is it more valuable to have a
lot of young, cost controlled players as assets than it
is to try to move draft picks, Because, like you said,
these teams are gonna have quote unquote these tough decisions
to make And I just watched the Atlanta get Chris
STAPs Twarzenkis for George Niang the second round pick. So

(28:39):
like I'm wondering, like, is it more beneficial to have
these younger, cost control guys that you can maybe trade
down the line than it is to have.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Picks for like you know what I'm saying. As the
second apron devalued the draft pick.

Speaker 10 (28:53):
In a way, But it depends on the timing. I
think draft picks are still very valuable when it comes
to leading into the trade deadline, certainly leading into the draft,
because when you have a draft that you can choose
which player you want. Now, obviously you don't always have
control because of who's available on the board, but I
think to your point posts NBA draft free agency, the

(29:16):
currency of having young control talent is an asset because
of what we were talking about with the second different
concerns here. I mean, when you're looking at the NBA landscape,
I think the Brooklyn Nets are literally the only team
right now that have cap space to work with everyone else.
They're going to be making moves to cut costs or

(29:38):
to improve on the margins. So with that, there's going
to be a lot of activity during this free agency period.
And obviously, if you anizant to the Koumpo gets traded,
that's a huge domino. But outside of that, a lot
of this activity might just be fake hustle of making
cost cutting moves and when you know moves better Marshall

(30:02):
Marshall moves than these high impact, splashy moves that we've
gotten accustomed to and spoil with over the years.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
During fourth of July, well, speaking of making moves, Kevin
Durant will officially be trade into the Rockets when the
new league begins on July six, even though like we
know he's there, everyone knows he's there. What does Katie
bring to this team and can he make them a
legitimate title contender?

Speaker 10 (30:27):
Definitely a legitimate title contenter because they just needed that
veteran star piece. They have a great young core, they
have great defensive depth, they have a great coach and
Mayo Dooka, and they really threaded the needle well where
they had to give up some things to get Kevin Durant,
but Phoenix should have gotten a lot more. The Sons

(30:48):
did not have to give up Alphri and Sngoon or
more than one first round pick. This was the number
ten pick, so they still have a lot of good
things his moving forward, fred a Athleets coming back now,
I've still put the Thunder as a favorite over the
Rockets because they have the community, They're coming off the

(31:09):
championship year. All the players are still pretty young. But
I would put Houston right behind them at number two,
assuming those there's no major injuries. And you know that's
something you can't discount because Kevin Durant, he's had injury
issues since his achilles in twenty nineteen, but went on
when he's healthy on the court, and he's played most
of the time, he's been as efficient as he's ever

(31:31):
been at all on BA level.

Speaker 6 (31:33):
So Mark, when Ace Bailey said I'm not working on
for anybody because I have a spot in mind, that
spot was not Utah. Yeah, and I can't think of
any place that needs more like an NBA like they
need to, really, the NBA needs to. The tourism package
for Utah has to improve because nobody wants to go there.
It seems Ace Bailey allegedly reportedly reporting today to Utah

(32:00):
part of their team executives.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
But what do you what's how does this end.

Speaker 11 (32:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (32:05):
Interesting, I mean, how does it end. He's going to
play there his entire career. But I think in the
short term, I think things will be fine.

Speaker 11 (32:14):
He's not the.

Speaker 10 (32:15):
First player and not the last player to try to
dictate maneuver things behind the scenes where he gets drafted.
I think just the way he orchestrated it looked a
little clumsy, with you know, outright refusing to work out
with the Sixers and it's being very cagy with everything else.
And I think to the Jazz is defense. You know,

(32:36):
Danny Ainge, He's not worried about if someone wants to
be it or not. He's going to take the best
player available. And I think in the Sixers case, they
didn't take him because there's already question marks about Joel
Embiid's health and Paul saving with Paul George, just the
how they all coexisted last year, the last thing they

(32:58):
need to have is another distract. And I think VJ.
Edgecombe he's a great player. He still needs to develop,
but he has great upside and great attitude, great two
way talent, So I get that. But I don't think
the Jazz made any mistake with selecting Bailey because I think,
you know, once the frustration subsides, he'll want to play

(33:18):
his best basketball because that'll be his ticket toward winning
and being a star player and maybe eventually going to
a team that he wants to play down the line, Oh,
someone with.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
The opposite attitude. Cooper Flagg as expected drafted first overall
by the MAVs. Will he be able to fill that
Lucas sized void in Dallas?

Speaker 10 (33:38):
Yeah, great question, Alex. I don't think that he is
expected to fill that void as far as carrying a franchise,
but I think in a few years he will be
that guy. He'll be the franchise savior. He'll be this
guy they built around. But the very short term things
worked out perfectly for both the MAVs coming off all
the frustration anks losing Luca, losing Kyrie a month before

(34:02):
the playoffs started with his aco injury. But in Cooper's case,
he's drafted number one without having the conventional path that
most number one picks have of having to be the
franchise savior, even though there's question marks when's Kyrie coming back?
Can Anthony Davis be healthy? On paper, he's likely going

(34:22):
to be the third option, and so he has to
be prepared to have that number one, number two role
in case there's other injuries. But Matt McKenzie, his trainer,
told me the key word about Cooper Flagg is being adaptable.
He's very well equipped both with his attitude as well
as most importantly, his skill set as a versat defender.

(34:42):
Someone who has great athleticism can dunk really well, is
a good shooter. He can plug all those different holes
without being the jack of all trades, master of none.
He's just very skilled at a lot of good things.
And because of that, he's going to have a lot
of success as a rookie year. He's going to win
rook of the Year. And I believe you know what

(35:03):
the one executive projected, He's going to be a multi
year All NBA guy, multi year All Sorry, I think
every single season after his rookie year, because of all
those great skills he guys.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
I love that. I'm excited to see him. I think
he's the real deal.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
I had a chance to talk to him, and as
you heard him say, he just wants to be a sponge,
which is all you want to hear from a new
guy in a franchise.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
Mark, thank you so much for joining us. Really appreciate
your time.

Speaker 10 (35:24):
Alex, mart I appreciate you both. Always fun talking to
you always.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
All right, guys, when we come back the dues in
the dontes in sports. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 11 (35:34):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Martin Wise. We are broadcasting live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios in Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon with us. It
is time now for the dues and the don'ts in
sports highlight.

Speaker 11 (35:53):
Oh I love that putting a spotlight on the dot.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
The subject brings me no joy.

Speaker 5 (35:58):
That that's insane.

Speaker 11 (36:00):
It's time for the dues and the don'ts in sports.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
I gotta start out with a big do here, do
get your back. Rinaldo's new contract. Have you have you
looked at this thing, Martin?

Speaker 4 (36:13):
No, give it to me mine blowing. Okay, let me
just tell you this is a two year deal.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Okay. He gets two hundred and forty four point two
three million dollars a year, fifteen percent ownership in a team.
That's forty five point three million dollars one hundred and
ten thousand dollars per goal, fifty five thousand per assists,
eleven million for a title, five point five million to
win the Golden Boot, eight point nine million to a

(36:42):
the Asian Cut League, sixteen full time employees for him
at all times, five point five million dollars in private
jet credits, and eighty two point four million dollars in
guaranteed sponsorship.

Speaker 4 (36:54):
I think my favorite is the private jet credits. You
got only redeem these at a private jet, which is
like a cousin of foth cards.

Speaker 6 (37:04):
I'll take actual money and then canvert it to a
place where you can only spend it here.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Well, I mean it's he's already getting almost two million
a year just in the contract and all that other stuff.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
And this is for two years. That's just one year.
Everything I just listened is one year. Wow, and he
gets up.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
For two years. That's crazy, Saint. I'll go with you. Don't, okay,
don't have the NBA Draftee two days long.

Speaker 6 (37:30):
I know we tried to do it last year because
Brianni was going to go in the second round, and
you should have just kept it the same.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
Let's fix it again, like let shorten it. The draft
can be an hour and a half max.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
Yeah, there's there's stretching for sponsorship here.

Speaker 6 (37:45):
But it's let's remember, entertainment value probably could help drive
sponsorship dollars a little bit better than maybe just length
of programs.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
Yeah, how long? Was it too long? Like three four hours? Hours?

Speaker 3 (37:58):
Yet, that's that's way too long. Okay, I have another doom.
Do show your creative side.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
I don't know if you've seen or watched the Mets
broadcast at all recently, but they kind of turn their
games into cinematic masterpieces and they've gone viral for it.
Their director John DeMar i't want to say his name
with Demarcico. He's a self proclaimed film junkie, and he's
been making these baseball moments look like old school film

(38:28):
moments where you'll have like a side by side, like
instead of a two box. It's like, you know, like
in movies where it's like someone closer, someone further away,
and it's just it's it's so beautiful, he said. There's
so many moments over the course of a baseball game,
and baseball is a unique sport when it comes to

(38:49):
TV because you have time to implement cinematic devices. But
it's like it literally, it literally looks like a movie.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
It's so beautiful.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
I'll send it to you so you can like see
what I'm talking about, because it's like, good for him.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
He's a film guy and he's literally making a film
every game.

Speaker 6 (39:07):
Don't swear when getting when you get drafted. Oh, it's
just not a good look. No, it's not a good look.
And because now for like the first twenty game your career,
people going to be like, oh, is this why you
swore when you got drafted.

Speaker 4 (39:21):
You know, it's just not a good look. Save it later.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
It's so hard.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
I remember, like because when I would do postgame interviews
and it'd be a walk off interview and you know
that there's like a gatorade bucket coming, I would mentally like,
you have to practice because sometimes it like just again,
when you're on TV or radio, you have to be PG.
So I'm just like, you have to train your brain

(39:45):
to be like instead of like accidentally letting something slip.
And it's like it's a conscious effort before you go
live in any situation in this industry. It's hard when
it's like a part of your everyday lingo and you
curse like a sailor, like I'm not gonna lie. I
probably do like I definitely do outside of this, but

(40:07):
it's just, oh man, I feel so bad.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
Okay, do always be you.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
The Eagles held one of the fundraising events at a
bar at the Jersey Shore where they have like former
and current players.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
Bartend and Jason Kelsey did not disappoint per us.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
He got up on a chair, ripped off his pants
and was rocking a speedo and he looks trim.

Speaker 6 (40:27):
Oh goodness, talk about trim well trimmer Jason Kelce or
Luca Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Luka donchs all right, just check, but also like, what's
his belly out?

Speaker 4 (40:36):
With Luca's belly out? Like we got like a we
got like a.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
Have naked Kelsey?

Speaker 2 (40:42):
All right?

Speaker 4 (40:42):
When we come back.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
It's a tawny day and NFL chacket.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 11 (40:50):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
Welcome to our two of Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex
Curry here with Martin Wise. Thank you for spending your
Saturday afternoon with us. Now we talked all things NBA
last hour, the champs, the draft, Cooper flag, what will
the Lakers be next season?

Speaker 3 (41:07):
Will KD make Houston a championship team?

Speaker 2 (41:10):
If you missed any of that, you can listen to
the podcast that'll be posted right after the show. This hour,
we're gonna hit MLB, Little NFL, new faces and new places,
best wide receiver, new quarterback Combo. Also Rogers announcing is
probably his final season, which I mean, that was perfect

(41:32):
timing for him to do that.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
I'm not surprised.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
For the best pregame show every weekend, be sure to
tune into Fox Sports Radio Countdown presented by bet MGM,
every Saturday and Sunday morning from nine am to noon
Eastern six to nine am Pacific.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
We will count you down to all the biggest games.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Tune into Countdown presented by bet MGM, every Saturday and
Sunday morning right here in Fox.

Speaker 3 (41:51):
Sports Radio and iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (41:54):
Okay, but let's start with some baseball because we are
in the dog days of summer right now, and as
I look at every team, that's what we have on
here right now, right That's that's just what we're living
in now now. Like in our industry, it's all baseball.
It's all baseball right now. Are you on are you
talking to me, Martin.

Speaker 4 (42:13):
Enjoy it.

Speaker 11 (42:13):
There we go.

Speaker 4 (42:14):
I love it. I mean, you know, I was.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
Baseball has been my entire life, Like I grew up
with season tickets to the Dodgers. I played softball and soccer,
and then my first job out of college was Angel's
sideline for a decade.

Speaker 5 (42:25):
So I like.

Speaker 3 (42:28):
Baseball is summer.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
Absolutely mean, it's a picnic in the park.

Speaker 3 (42:31):
It's fun.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
And today was o tawny day. He made his third start,
first on the road in Kansas City. First two starts
only went one inning, both outings. First start since twenty
twenty three was against the Padres. You know, not bad,
not great, two hits.

Speaker 3 (42:50):
One in run.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Second start got up like I feel like he got
like the rust off against the Nationals.

Speaker 3 (42:53):
No hits, no runs, sure, two strikeouts.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
And then today he bumped it up to two innings,
gave up one hit, one walk and a strikeout.

Speaker 3 (43:02):
Nowhere in runs.

Speaker 11 (43:03):
So like.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Otani back being on the mound after winning his third
MVP last season, first time ever, like full time DH again.
He's been unanimous every time he's won MVP, leading the
National League with twenty nine home runs.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
Let me make sure that's updated. Because that was about
an hour ago. He hasn't hit a home run today.
He hasn't hit a home run today.

Speaker 5 (43:29):
Yeah, just.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
Making sure.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
We still got cal Rawley, the big dumper, leading the
league in home runs, which is just like Wild Seattle's catcher. Sure,
and then Judge right behind Otani with twenty eight home runs.
But we're in the dog day of the summer, almost
halfway through the season, which is crazy.

Speaker 3 (43:51):
All Star Game voting. We're like right around the corner
from the All.

Speaker 4 (43:55):
Star Game and he finished voting.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
And you know what, the two stars, the.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
Two faces of the league, show Heyo Tani and Aaron Judge,
the reigning MVPs in the American League in the National League,
have both been voted as the top players to the
Also Game. So they both like they're starters. That's happening,
And is anybody surprised? No, Like last year was a gift.
Last year was a gift for the World Series, having

(44:21):
the two storied franchises. I think for our company Fox Sports,
like having the World Series was absolutely insane. Having two
of the biggest names and two of the biggest stars
in Aaron Judge and show Heyo Tani, and now both
of them pick up right where they left off this year, like,
we're so lucky to be like in the middle of greatness.

Speaker 3 (44:37):
I always tell people that like it.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
It was the same with like people who complain about
Lebron James or people who were complaining about like Tom
Brady and the Patriots dynasty when that was happening or
Golden State Warriors. Is like, why are you complaining? You
are literally living in and witnessing greatness. Can you just
appreciate it when it's right in front of your face?

Speaker 5 (44:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (44:55):
I don't think I'd say as long as it's not
happening against your team, Yeah, knew was rather your team
be the one that's being great.

Speaker 4 (45:01):
I don't really have a baseball wearing a Dodgers Dodgers hat.

Speaker 3 (45:05):
Yes, it's La.

Speaker 4 (45:06):
That is you were literally wearing a Dodgers hat. This
hat is black, the Dodgers were.

Speaker 3 (45:10):
It doesn't matter. It's that it's the Dodger logo. That's
a Dodger hat.

Speaker 12 (45:14):
I don't know, that's definitely that's a Dodger hat. I
think this is really what time in That is a
Dodger Yeah, the La doctors. I'm dissenting on that, Like
I have a black tiger's hat. I don't think of
it as a tiger's hat. I think if it is
a Detroit hat.

Speaker 13 (45:26):
No, you see.

Speaker 14 (45:26):
I love that that's a logo, like that's one that's
a cool It's city City of LA logo. But I
can't wear it because I'm not a Dodgers fan, and
I hate that I can't wear it. But I've accepted
that I can't wear it.

Speaker 6 (45:38):
So the fact that you're wearing if you live in
Los Angeles and this hat just says LA.

Speaker 4 (45:43):
On it and is black, but it's the Dodger's logo.

Speaker 14 (45:46):
So would you get if you someday moved out of
LA and wanted to get like a tattoo or something,
would you get that logo tattooed on your body with
it being the Dodger's logo.

Speaker 12 (45:56):
No?

Speaker 4 (45:56):
But last week when I was outside of l A,
I wore this hat.

Speaker 5 (46:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:01):
I guess the problem is is like, what's the alternative?
What is the other very big known l A symbol?

Speaker 4 (46:06):
If it is not, it's not it's the Dodgers l A.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
It's like the New York Yankees, Like that's the New
York Like it's very perfect.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
But again, that's why I have the Tiger's cap, but
it's not the Yankees logo on a green hat. That
does not make it to me a Yank.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
But they sell they sell these hats in like every
different kind of like color. They have prints on them,
like I wear I wear my black on black like
I have like that, but then it's like black stitching
instead of the white.

Speaker 14 (46:37):
Yeah, I think it's my Dodgers Dodger game with the Yankees,
because like that's just a green Yankees hat.

Speaker 4 (46:42):
Then yeah, so this is a black Dodgers hat. Yeah,
here's the problem. The Dodgers don't wear black. They sell
it at the stadium, not to Dodgers fans, just an
or generic fance I love it orange hat. If I
if I got the L A the L A Y here,
what if I.

Speaker 6 (47:01):
Got an orangel A the L the L and the
A and orange and then the hat and blue which
are Mets colors.

Speaker 3 (47:08):
And now it's gonna say longly colored Dodgers. But it's okay,
I'm actually curious.

Speaker 4 (47:14):
This is something.

Speaker 3 (47:15):
This is something we're gonna ask fans.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Okay, if you are wearing a L A the Dodgers
l A logo hat, and it's not blue, Say it's black,
say it's gray, say it's green.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
Is it still considered a Dodgers hat?

Speaker 4 (47:30):
And it's not a hat that says, to be clear,
Dodgers Dodgers.

Speaker 6 (47:37):
I'm painting a picture for the It's just the L
and the A. There's no script Dodgers anywhere.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
On the on my hat.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
But that's a Dodgers logo.

Speaker 1 (47:47):
Thing for self selecting a high selecting group by pinging
people because this is a sports station. But I think
you ask people on like I don't know, a rock station,
most people just say, yeah, it's an L A hat
because that's who that is.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
I'm gonna put it out there and I'm gonna I'm
going to ask the internet. I'm gonna clip that we're
gonna ask.

Speaker 3 (48:04):
I really think this is gonna be like one hundred zero. Yeah,
that's not your hat.

Speaker 2 (48:09):
And I love it because the Dodgers Dodger is a
black Dodgers hat, but they don't want black dogs.

Speaker 4 (48:16):
It's a Dodger's hat and I'm looking for it.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
Just because their their their name has the first letter
that is the logo that they're really clear.

Speaker 4 (48:26):
I'm wearing this hat because i need a haircut.

Speaker 3 (48:29):
Oh my god, Wait, Martin, I didn't tell you this.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
When I got out of my car today, I looked
to my right and I thought that was I thought
it was you getting out of a car. Our studio
is like next to a yoga studio, so there's a
lot of people usually.

Speaker 4 (48:41):
Getting out for especially at the top of the album.

Speaker 2 (48:43):
Yeah, when we're arriving and I look over, I'm like, huh,
Martin with a headband.

Speaker 3 (48:48):
That's new. That's interesting, And then did a double take.
I was like, oh no, that's not Martin. Okay, I
gotta I gotta laugh. I gotta tell him that.

Speaker 4 (48:54):
But like, it must have been a good looking fellow.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
It was great.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
Okay, let's switch to some football. Because NFL off season
is in full of fact. Mini camps are done. We're
about three to four weeks away from training camp, so
everyone is off enjoying kind of that last bit of summer.
So obviously it's the perfect time for Aaron Rodgers to
make headlines because that's what he does.

Speaker 3 (49:18):
And he went on Pat McAfee to tell him.

Speaker 2 (49:20):
I'm pretty sure that this is going to be his
final season of his NFL career.

Speaker 15 (49:27):
Pretty sure this is it. You know, that's why we
just did a one year deal. Steelers didn't need to
you know, put any extra years on that or anything. So,
you know, this was really about finishing with love and
fun and peace. For the career that I've had. I've
played twenty freaking news, you know, like, it's been a long,
long run.

Speaker 13 (49:48):
I've enjoyed it.

Speaker 15 (49:48):
And what better place to finish than in one of
the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and
the great group of leadership and guys in the city
that you know expects expects you to win.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
So he signed a one year, thirteen point six million
dollar contract, which at this point like it was kind
of his only option.

Speaker 3 (50:10):
We were hearing that he wanted to go other places.

Speaker 2 (50:13):
The Rams kind of had him as like a backup,
maybe third option if Stafford's did contract and work out.
Vikings were also maybe an option, but they stuck with JJ.
So what is his final season gonna look like?

Speaker 7 (50:29):
Like?

Speaker 3 (50:29):
Must watch TV? A farewell tour?

Speaker 2 (50:32):
He said, like he's gonna give the Steelers everything he's gotten.

Speaker 3 (50:36):
An empty the tank obviously, and you just hope that
now he's two years removed from the Achilles injury.

Speaker 2 (50:44):
So we're not going to get the MVP Rogers that
we saw was that like four years ago, but maybe
we get a better than five and two Rogers from
last year in New York.

Speaker 4 (50:55):
Like, there's got to be there's got to be a
good structure around him.

Speaker 6 (50:58):
Is going to be so much better than a was
in New York, part because he's not gonna have any
influence on building the structure around him, so.

Speaker 4 (51:06):
It will be better.

Speaker 5 (51:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (51:08):
Yeah, Well, it's a functional franchise.

Speaker 2 (51:10):
It's a storied functional franchise opposed to like one of
the most dysfunctional franchises.

Speaker 6 (51:14):
I mean even dysfunctional, whether or not the Jets or
they could have been perfectly functional.

Speaker 4 (51:19):
But if he's gonna come in and hire his offensive coordinator,
then bringing his his receivers and then.

Speaker 6 (51:24):
Make them trade in the middle of a year for
another one his receivers, and that that's dysfunction right there.
So I don't imagine that the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have
had a certain way of doing business for the last
thirty years or so, are going to be moving in
that way. So the structure around them just be better
in general. Yeah, Now, but I am not. DK Metcalf

(51:44):
is my number one receiver. Is like we were talking
about in the earlier today to show about the playoffs,
you look at what I'd like that to be a
better I'd like that to be.

Speaker 4 (51:52):
A better player. Dk.

Speaker 6 (51:54):
I think he's a fine number two receiver on like,
but when you're looking at the top duos or top
receiving combos.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
Which we're going to get to in a little bit, I.

Speaker 4 (52:02):
Wouldn't have DK and Aaron Rodgers in the top No.

Speaker 5 (52:05):
No.

Speaker 2 (52:06):
Eight nine, No, I mean it's definitely gonna be I
think the best quarterback he's ever been with, right because
he was with Russell Wilson and Gino Smith before. So
if Rogers is, you know, half half plus better than
he was last year, he's on his mobile anymore since

(52:27):
the Achilles as we've seen.

Speaker 6 (52:29):
But I just think between DK me I think it's
kind of fitting that DK Metcalf is the replacement for
George Pickens in Pittsburgh because I think those are the
two most overrated receivers in football.

Speaker 4 (52:42):
With Pickens being number one and DK being second.

Speaker 3 (52:45):
Well, yeah, he's going to be number one, He's going
to be number two in Dallas.

Speaker 4 (52:50):
Fine Cede Lamber most overrated receivers.

Speaker 6 (52:53):
What I'm saying, the idea that George Pickens was ever
a number one receiver I think was a myth. And
dk Metcalf is to me a guy that's like maybe
a one or two trick pony, and like he's heavily penalized.
He's just average across the board and everything. And you
know what, he made a great tackle on an interception
on Buddha Banker.

Speaker 4 (53:11):
It was one of the coolest plays in a decade. Yeah,
it was it. What else?

Speaker 2 (53:18):
Okay, so Vegas didn't think it made that big of
a difference for the Steelers. Adding Aaron Rodgers. Their over
under win total I think is still set at eight
and a half wins. So before they got Rogers because
again they didn't have a quarterback. When the schedule release
came out and the over under wind totals came out,

(53:39):
I said, this might be Mike tomlins first ever, not
like because he's he's never had a losing season.

Speaker 11 (53:48):
I did.

Speaker 2 (53:49):
Without having a quarterback. At that point, I was like,
this might be his first losing season. But now adding Rogers,
I thought maybe would make a little bit more of
an impact.

Speaker 3 (53:59):
But according to Vegas. It hasn't like win total is
still set at eight and a half wins.

Speaker 6 (54:03):
I think the win total was set with the idea
that Aaron Rodgers was coming. Like I think if the
news had been announced that Aaron Rodgers actually was retiring
this year instead of the nebulous, I'm pretty sure I
want to get attention for all seventeen weeks, no matter
what the stulis record is that he said on Tuesday
at Pat McAfee, then I think we would have seen
the win lost total drop. If that had been then

(54:25):
announcement that he had made on McAfee, we were going
down to maybe six or seven. But yeah, this is
the thing about what's going to happen in Pittsburgh this year.
It's not exactly sexy. Yeah, it's going to be the
same as it always is. Aaron Rodgers is worse at
quarterback today than he's ever been in his life.

Speaker 11 (54:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (54:43):
True, He's also the best quarterback that Pittsburgh has had
the last five years.

Speaker 4 (54:46):
That's big Ben, even the last two years. Big Ben.

Speaker 2 (54:50):
Yeah, and he came out, Big Ben said, I think
every week is going to be must watch TV. Fans
of football are going to be coming out, whether it's
at home or on the road, because you want to
get a glimpse of greatness one last time. I don't
know if it's going to be greatness one last time,
but I think because he's such a polarizing player, people
love to hate on him and people love to watch.
Even if he fails, people are going to tune in

(55:10):
to watch, So I think that's kind of the must
watch TV. But also, like people are, people are a
little tired of his story, and people are a little
tired of the whole Rogers situation, and the Steelers are
a pretty well loved franchise and now you just brought
on probably one of the more disliked players in the

(55:34):
league on your team. So that's also something new that
I think they're going to be dealing with, which is
going to be interesting. And he has that de gaff attitude,
like the aloof like whatever, but it's gonna be It's
gonna be interesting.

Speaker 4 (55:47):
It's gonna be interesting. He cares so much, Yeah, to
be like I don't care, But also like.

Speaker 2 (55:53):
Did you see the other quote where he goes, once
I'm done playing, you're not gonna hear from me.

Speaker 4 (55:56):
You're not going to see me. It's like, dude, this
was so calculated you coming out this week.

Speaker 2 (56:01):
Once everything was done NFL wise and news, everybody's taken
a little break.

Speaker 3 (56:06):
This is when you decided to give us.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
You know, you could have the spotlight and all the
conversations and all the attention was going to be on
Oh okay, this is he's pretty sure, he's pretty sure
this is going to be his last year, and now
everyone's going to talk about it.

Speaker 4 (56:18):
Yeah. I do buy him, though.

Speaker 6 (56:19):
I do think that when he's when it's over, we
won't to hear from him on the football realm of things,
but you'll hear about You'll hear about him a lot.

Speaker 3 (56:27):
Yes, Oh yeah, Oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (56:29):
He can't.

Speaker 3 (56:30):
He can't not stay in the media, which is hilarious.

Speaker 2 (56:34):
Other fun news this week, tiight End University was held
in Nashville this week were you does it pop up
on your social because it was basically like Taylor Swift
performing with all the guys. At night, she did a
surprise performance shake it Off one song, and then the
next night she was seen with Kittle and Travis and.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
They were all singing along to Love Story like it
was just I loved it so.

Speaker 6 (57:01):
Much isn't like tight End University. I thought it was
like for kids. Is that no college kids?

Speaker 5 (57:08):
Right?

Speaker 2 (57:08):
So I think it's where it's where like all the
top tight ends in the league spend a few days
together and it's kind of like summer camp vibes where
they do some training and they do some drills, but they.

Speaker 3 (57:19):
Also have a lot of fun and there's a lot
of events.

Speaker 4 (57:22):
So this was just a lot of dudes listening to
Taylor Swift.

Speaker 2 (57:26):
Yeah, well and their wives and their family. Like it's
like it's like a whole big like everybody's out there.
Like the wives all throw events, like the families throw events.
That's why she's there because it's a family like get
together and it seems really fun. It's really home brand
for obviously, like like the top tight end personalities. It
was founded by Greg Olsen, George Kittle, and Travis Kelce.

(57:47):
Could you ever imagine like a wide receiver like having
a weekend like this.

Speaker 4 (57:52):
I I don't think Taylor Swift would be the keynote performer.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
She wasn't the keynote performer.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
She just came with Travis and and like surprise and
like got up and like it was like a special
treat they gave it. They had a couple they had
like country artists that were like the performers got you,
and then she was just there and surprised everybody with
shake it Off, which was cute.

Speaker 6 (58:13):
I wonder how you feel it would be the guy
who was like actually the guy supposed to be there
and it's like oh.

Speaker 2 (58:17):
Wow, Oh they were there, like like Luke Combs maybe
was one. I don't want to be butchering them. They
had like big names that were there.

Speaker 4 (58:24):
Yeah, we're not in my Luke Holmbs. You could tell
me that Luke Combs is a profit for the Royals,
or you can tell you.

Speaker 2 (58:33):
It's okay, I'm new to country. It's like it's my
newest like I'm learning. But yeah, also not necessarily my.

Speaker 6 (58:39):
You could tell me Luke Combs for two thousand yards
in New Jersey High School last year, going, oh.

Speaker 4 (58:45):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (58:45):
Okay, we're gonna take a quick break here, but when
we come back, new faces in new places.

Speaker 3 (58:50):
Wide Receiver edition. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. Am Alex Curry here
with Martin Wise, coming to you live from Fox or
It's Radio Studios. Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon
with us. Okay, I just got this update again, like
creeping on my phone. Have you seen this yet? Nick's
reportedly contacted Don Staley for head coaching job. No, yeah,

(59:15):
hold on, okay, so tell me this is on Complex
and Complex Sports just came up. Yeah, so was reportedly
contacted by the New York Knicks for their head coaching position.
That's like, wild, are you seeing it anywhere else?

Speaker 6 (59:35):
Yeah, I'm seeing I'm seeing a bunch of stories that
are aggregating the story.

Speaker 4 (59:40):
That you saw.

Speaker 6 (59:41):
So yeah, okay, this is kind of the downfall of
the Internet that we're at today.

Speaker 3 (59:46):
Yeah, how real is it?

Speaker 6 (59:47):
Well, just all feed one thing, feeds all into back
into the others. Right on its face, the idea that
the Knicks would ask Don Staley to like the Nicks
would reach out to Don Staley, it's not a completely
and totally implausible, It's not ridiculous on its face, but
it's one of those things that if you saw it,
it'd be like, this is the type of thing that

(01:00:08):
somebody would make up to try to get a ton
of retweets and get people mad.

Speaker 16 (01:00:11):
Yes, right, Like I'm trying to be clear, I don't
think that ridiculous, right, Yeah, I'm not saying it's ridiculous,
But when I do the update in a minute, I'm
not going to say this until I see more people
come out with the actual truth.

Speaker 4 (01:00:25):
I should say the actual truth.

Speaker 6 (01:00:27):
But like more reports that are I'm seeing Knicks Fan
TV with this, which kind of makes me. It makes
this is the type of thing that just in general
makes me want this is what happened once Elon broke
the blue checks. These are the types of things that
if I had seen it would I wouldn't have thought
twice about it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
But now when you say that, it makes me wonder.

Speaker 6 (01:00:48):
Here's why it makes me wonder, Hey, because just take
the racial and gender aspects out of it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
That's why I think people would make it up and
get upset with it.

Speaker 9 (01:00:57):
Right.

Speaker 6 (01:00:57):
Also, South Carolina, I think objectively South on women's basketball
right now is probably a better job than the New
York Nickson.

Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
At W definitely also like her notable like accolades, three
time NCAA Women's Basketball National champ, four times Coach of
the Year, four times WBCA National Coach of the Year,
highest paid coach in women's college basketball USA Basketball National
Coach of the Year, six time w NBA All Star,
three time Olympical Metalist, two time College.

Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
Player of the Year. Like, her resume is as good
as it can get for a female coach, well.

Speaker 4 (01:01:29):
A coach in general. Yeah, she is the best women's
basketball coach.

Speaker 3 (01:01:35):
And so respected in the game right now.

Speaker 6 (01:01:37):
So it's like, would you rather be the top of
your game right now with you have the job security
and long term success and then me just look at
some of the other legends that have coached women's college basketball,
which to the point right now WNBA is catching up
in valuation, getting.

Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Money and all that, but college basney value. She could
add value to the w if she decides to go that.

Speaker 6 (01:01:59):
Well, I don't think. I think if she would stay
where she's at, I think over going to one of
those the w n B A but like going to
the Knicks, Yeah, I don't feel like is an automatic
upgrade for her in terms of UH, in terms.

Speaker 4 (01:02:12):
Of stature and status and all of that.

Speaker 6 (01:02:16):
Like she is a top of the game right now
and on her way to being a Hall of Famer
and both players she's a player, player, player and coach. Yeah,
And like unless she feels that there's some level of
that she has completed the job quote unquote South Carolina. Yeah,
then maybe then she she's actively looking for new opportunities,

(01:02:37):
but I haven't heard anything of, which is another one
why it just makes me raise my eyebrows.

Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
Interesting.

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Interesting, and just like this, not just the scrutiny of
going to New York, but going to a Knicks team
that just had a completely like historic season, like getting
to the East Conference Final for the first time and
what was it twenty five years and then firing the
head coach and then just it's yeah, it's a bit

(01:03:07):
of an interesting situation there anyway, but intriguing, intriguing.

Speaker 4 (01:03:13):
All right, Martin, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:03:15):
I don't know this guy, Jalen Martin, Associate editor news
letter manager at Bronxite.

Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
You're doing a deeper dive.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Yeah, okay, all right, all right, alright, we'll throw we'll
throw throw it in the backseat and see how much
heat it picks up on Monday, see how real deal
it is.

Speaker 3 (01:03:32):
But now tell us what's trending?

Speaker 11 (01:03:34):
What you got.

Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Some NBA trades?

Speaker 6 (01:03:39):
The Bulls trade Lonzo Ball to Cleveland for Isaac Ocoro,
sam Merril signsay four year, thirty eight million dog deal
to stay in Cleveland, Daveion Mitchell, we'll sign a two year,
twenty four million dollars to stay in Miami, and Nas
reed we'll stay with the Wolves on a five year,
one hundred and twenty five million dollar deal. Ace Bailey,
number five pick in the draft, plans to report to
the Utah Jazz to day. The Shohal Tani pitched earlier today,

(01:04:02):
pitched two winnings, had put a two strikeout, a hit,
and gave up a hit, and gave up a walk
to his third start in Dodger uniform. Right now, the
Royals lead that game three to nothing in the bottom
of the fifth inning. Elsewhere in Major League Baseball, the
Giants and White Sox scoreless top of the sixth. At

(01:04:23):
the top of the sixth inning, the Brewers with a
five to nothing lead over the Rockies.

Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
The Orioles trail the Rays eight to nothing.

Speaker 6 (01:04:30):
In the top of the fifth inning, Guardians doubling up
to the Cardinals six to three. Top of the fifth,
same story for the Diamondbacks and Marlin six to three.
Arizona in the lead, Rangers lead the Mariners to the
one top of the fifth inning on Fox. Bottom of
the fourth inning, the Reds three up on the Padres
three to nothing.

Speaker 4 (01:04:48):
Red Sox pounding the Blue Jays nine to one.

Speaker 6 (01:04:51):
In the top of the fourth Mets pirates and Arandela
New York with a one nothing lead there. Earlier day,
the Ads beat the Yankees seven to nothing. The Tigers
beat the Twins ten to nothing. Ron Washington, anahem Angels
manager to remain on medical League for the season. Washington
seventy three years old and the oldest manager in baseball.

(01:05:12):
Bennie pass Galentino to three run homer, six to three.
Now the score as that as a very happy Royals
fan right outside of the fountain, as that's Passportinos.

Speaker 4 (01:05:26):
Twelve all the year.

Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
Have you ever caught a home run?

Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Yeah, I feel like that would be an exciting moment.

Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
Yeah, it's got to come.

Speaker 6 (01:05:35):
Like I'll say this, though, I'm not at this stage
in my life and my athletic ability.

Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
I'm getting out of the way.

Speaker 6 (01:05:41):
Man, I'm not moving either way. I'm not getting out
of or into the way. So if it comes to me,
I got it. Okay, if it comes to me, I'm
not moving, I'm making the play. I'm here but I'm
not exerting myself one way or another, no chance.

Speaker 5 (01:05:57):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
You're listening to Fox Sports Saturday mal Screen here with
Martin Wise. We were broadcasting live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios in Los Angeles. It is time for our
next guest. He is the owner of the Sporting Tribune,
A Rashmarcazi. Thanks for joining the show.

Speaker 5 (01:06:10):
Thanks for having me. Good to be on.

Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
Let's talk some baseball sense. It's o'tanni day. Not a
great day for the Dodgers of the plate. They're losing
right now six nothing. But O'tani did hit his enna
leading twenty ninth home run yesterday. He's getting back into
form on the mound. He had his third start today,
bumped up to two innings. How dangerous will Otani be
once he's back to full strength both hitting and pitching?

Speaker 5 (01:06:33):
Dude? You know, I mean like he's I had a schedule.
I think everyone, oh yeah, was talking to the Dodgers
felt be after the All Star break. So the fact
that he's even pitching right now, that's a plus. And again,
I'm not really concerned about the pitch count, you know,
I mean they are all moving towards him being ready
to go for the postings. And again, when you're the

(01:06:55):
Dodgers and you've won the division how many times in
a row and whatever, it's really about, you know, trying
to get Shoe Halo Toni in position to be on
that pitching step come post season. But that also goes
to the guys who are hurt, you know, Tyler Blastal
and Blake Smelling. You know, I don't think anyone on
that team is particularly concerned about, you know, being healthy

(01:07:17):
like in June or July. It's like, who's going to
be healthy come late October?

Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
Yeah, ahrash.

Speaker 6 (01:07:24):
Luka Doncs has been photographed and apparently has been looks
so much skinnier, so much trim right right, not skinny, right,
He's just just in the best shape of his life.
On what is the June twenty eighth, What do you
think of this? The Lakers and his extension pending? Just
how the Lakers feel about Luka Doncs at this moment

(01:07:45):
in time.

Speaker 5 (01:07:46):
You know, that was my first thought, the way that
the Mavericks leaked and talked about Luca post trade. I mean,
it's one thing when you trade a generational talent like that,
but just all of the talk about you know that
he likes hookah and he likes beer, and he's never
in shape and whatever you knew he would get in shape.
I mean, it happened to Shaquille O'Neill when he got

(01:08:08):
delk to the heat and he won in another title.
So again, I expect Luc and against this is another
thing ahead of schedule. I certainly expected Luca to be
in the best shape of his career going into next season.
The fact that he's in the best shape of his career,
perhaps his life in June. Is you so really thrilled
about that?

Speaker 3 (01:08:29):
I mean, I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
And Lakers now with new ownership, it's approve you wrong
here for Luca. But what moves the Lakers need to
make before the season to build that championship team around
Luca and Lebron.

Speaker 5 (01:08:42):
Yeah, they need a censor and they need a center
of who can I mean, like Luca really works well
with big bans who can jump in, are athletic and
just catch his lobs towards the basket. Again saying you
don't necessarily need a superstar, not that they're going to
be able to get one cap situation, but just a
big man who's quite frankly better than Jackson Hayes. And

(01:09:05):
that's not gonna be hard to do. So, you know,
if they can get a center who can play towards
Lucas Strings and you know, they they may make it
like a small move this offseason that we don't think
is a big move. If they can get a big
man that is at least you know, serviceable, Uh, that
that'll go a long way.

Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
Now, joined us on the Sporting Tribunal on Fox Sports Radio.
Do they need a big man more than any Austin
Reeves at forty something million dollars a year?

Speaker 5 (01:09:36):
Yeah, So the reason situation will be unique just because
of the cap situation there. And you know again that
that's the reason again the Lakers would not normally be
in the market to be trading in US threes. But
I do think that that that there is a certain
caps that they can spend there. So, uh, they they

(01:09:57):
they love Reeves, but if they get to a point
where like he he's not accepting it again, then what
he did, Like listen, if he's not gonna be accepting
you know, a four year contract get close to one
hundred million dollars, like there may be a situation where
they have to move on from them. So I don't
know if that happens in the offseason. I do think

(01:10:20):
Gostins begins this season and they try to work towards
some kind of a deal.

Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
Now the West is gonna be It's gonna be tough
again next year. Obviously you have the defending champs. You
got KD now on the Rockets. Lakers are gonna be better.
Let's let's start with with Houston. It's not officially official yet,
like it will be well in the six when the
new league starts, but like, how much does KD make
the Rockets now a championship contender?

Speaker 5 (01:10:47):
The big thing about KD is that he's a veteran presence.
And again I know people want to maybe like knock
KD on social media, but you know, when you look
at the guys who has done what he's done, or
you can go back to the time with the Warriors
when he won multiple titles and finals MVPs and TVUSA,
like all time leading scorer and gold medals, Like you

(01:11:08):
want a player like that on your team. So when
you have a young, talented team like Houston and you
have the number two seed, one of the things that
they didn't have was that veteran presidence. But it's not
like he's just coming in as that net presidence coming
off the bench or something like that like Chris Paul.
I mean, KD is still when he's on like one

(01:11:28):
of the best players in the league. So that's the
biggest thing.

Speaker 13 (01:11:31):
It's not just the talented KD, but the mindset and
the veteran presidence of a guy who's played in the finals,
played in gold medal games, played in big spots that
these guys have not year two.

Speaker 6 (01:11:43):
For Jim Harbaugh in Los Angeles, justin Harbor two playoff
games in his career, I believe far and both of
them losses.

Speaker 4 (01:11:52):
Does that change in year two for Harbor?

Speaker 5 (01:11:55):
I think it does. I mean, I mean, the biggest
thing that Harbaugh does, and I said this before, is
for season with these guys, is that he changes the
culture of a team and he takes them from a
team that you know hasn't won in the postseason to
a team that can get to the conference championship game. Again,
I was very surprised by their performance in Houston in

(01:12:16):
year one, but I do expect them to kind of
be pick up where they left off in terms of
contending for the division, going back to the postseason, but
again finding a way to win that playoff game, getting
to you know, maybe a conference championship game and seeing
how far that they can go. But this is a
big season for Justin Herbert. Again, he has been one

(01:12:38):
of the best quarterbacks in the league talent wise. But
at the end of the day, if you're gonna be
viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in the league,
you've got to win in the postseason.

Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
Let's talk about the other LA team.

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
The Rams picked up DeVante Adams paired with Matthew Stafford.
I think this is probably the best new wide receiver
like in a new place combo with a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
Do you see them winning the NFC West And does
he make the team better?

Speaker 1 (01:13:04):
I do?

Speaker 5 (01:13:05):
I do. I mean I was surprised and dagas sort
of the odds in San Francisco. Yeah, look at all
the guys that they've lost. But you know, when when
you look at the track record of Matthew Stafford, which
I just think is so great that he came back,
and I know there was that moment there where you
know he could have left, but you know, having DeVante In,
Matthew Stafford, you know, work in the off season and

(01:13:27):
kind of be on the same page Pokin Nakulak's coming back.
But the really reason that I'm excited about the Rams
going into this season, and I think every ramspin was
pleasantly surprised by this that young defense and how they
played and how much they're going to grow in year
two together. That's the reason I think a lot of
people are thinking that this team has a chance to succeed.

(01:13:48):
We know that the offense, you know, led by Stafford
and which Sean mcday colin plays, will be good, but
that young defense, I mean, if they continue to develop,
I get you look at the postseason, there was only
one team that gave Philadelphia a run for their money,
and it was the Rams.

Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
That's chae. That's fair.

Speaker 6 (01:14:07):
When you look at the NBA the draft, it just
happened to like obviously draft and offseason.

Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
But the Clippers and the Lakers.

Speaker 6 (01:14:13):
I know that you know, Sporting Tribune basically is like
Big LA and Vegas coverage. So I'm wondering who had
the more impressive offseason thus far to you between the
Lakers and the.

Speaker 5 (01:14:24):
Clippers, and why you know, nonether one's really done much,
But I do think that's going to change. The team
that I've told everyone to watch for is the Clippers.
I do not think the Clippers are content to go
into next season running back the same team that lost
in the first round. So whether that's moving on from
Norman Howell, whether that's trying to package together again, they

(01:14:47):
don't have a ton of picks. That again, people can
continue to showcase that meme of that Paul George Strait.
I just don't think that the Clippers are going to
be content going into next season with the same team
that lost to Denver in the first shrounded Again, I mean,
they took Denver to Game seven. But I do think
watch out for the Clippers to make some kind of

(01:15:08):
a move to shake things up. Now what that looks like,
what that will be, I'm not quite sure, but neither
one has really done a whole lot. Again, you look
at the you know, the Clippers with a last pig
of the first round.

Speaker 7 (01:15:20):
And the.

Speaker 5 (01:15:22):
Lakers with no picks in the first round. So you know,
I'm not going to say that a second round pick
is gonna do too much for like the wonderful teams
put the Clippers. Look out for the Clippers to make
a big splash.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
I gotta do something.

Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
If it didn't work last year, you gotta fix it, Arash.

Speaker 3 (01:15:37):
Thank you so much for joining us. We appreciate it always.

Speaker 5 (01:15:40):

so I'm like, I just want to dance lung this.

Speaker 11 (01:16:01):
This's great.

Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts,
and you'll see today's show posted right after we get
off the air. But we're gonna wrap things up with
some feel good stories because why not. I love ending
on a high note, and this first one was like
a feel good ending to a bad, sad situation. This week,

(01:16:34):
a fan got banned from every MLB park from saying
some from evil things to Ka tell Marte about his
late mother when they were in Chicago.

Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
When it happened.

Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
It's just you could see, like to make a player
cry on the field, like you have to say something evil, evil, evil.
So the White Sox banned the thing from their stadium
for life, and then the rest of Major League Baseball
followed to and did the right thing and banned that
fan from every MLB park for life. But then it

(01:17:12):
was shared that over three hundred fans I think they're
around eighteen thousand dollars now from all over the world
have donated to the d Backs Foundation in Katel Marte's
late mother's honor, And that's like turning a bad situation
into some good. And then he got a standing ovation
being back home back in Arizona this week, and it's

(01:17:36):
just yeah, he's getting he's getting some really awesome support
from fans, not only like Arizona fans, but like around
the world, which you love to see.

Speaker 6 (01:17:46):
Yeah, it's all especially after watching it was clearly impacted
much what that fan said.

Speaker 4 (01:17:52):
So you know there's no space for that in baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
No, he lost his mother in a car accident, so
like you can imagine how gnarly whatever was said had
to have been to make him visibly upset right on
the field.

Speaker 4 (01:18:06):
All right, I got another one. Do you have a
do you have any feel goods? Sure? I got I
got one. Okay.

Speaker 6 (01:18:12):
Simon Wayang, I'm sure you've heard of him. Okay, he
was the thirty third draft pick in the NHL draft. Okay,
he's the highest picked Chinese draft pick ever.

Speaker 4 (01:18:25):
What the NHL.

Speaker 6 (01:18:27):
He was inspired by the NHL traveling to China in
twenty seventeen and eighteen and watching the Boston Bruins play
the Calgary Flames and Cadillac Arena in Beijing.

Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
And that's why you do it, and that's why you're
seeing all of these leagues do these around the world games.

Speaker 4 (01:18:45):
It works. There you go, it works. It worked for
Simon Wayne worked.

Speaker 3 (01:18:50):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (01:18:51):
Okay, I got another one.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Barry Bonds is finally getting a statue outside Giants Stadium.

Speaker 3 (01:19:02):
Give this man his flowers. Put him in the Hall
of Fame.

Speaker 2 (01:19:07):
Already get off your high horse, all you voters, and
acknowledge this man for what he is. One of the
greatest baseball players of all time, seven hundred and sixty
two home runs.

Speaker 3 (01:19:18):
Everyone was on steroids during that time, even the pitchers.

Speaker 4 (01:19:22):
I'm sure more.

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
Than you think players during that time that are in
the Hall of Fame were also all doing that. He
was just the best, and you always got to bring
down the number one top player. I will die on
this hill Barry Bonds deserves to be in the Hall
of Fame.

Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
You can also cut his career in half and still
have a really good argument for it.

Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
Still Hall of Fame career, Like, it is mind blowing
to me?

Speaker 4 (01:19:47):
Would you put him in the Hall?

Speaker 5 (01:19:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:19:49):
Like, how was he not?

Speaker 5 (01:19:50):
To me?

Speaker 4 (01:19:51):
I think that the steroid era to me was it's
saved baseball. It's safe, It's saved baseball.

Speaker 6 (01:19:58):
But to me, there was a lot of people in
the locker room, notepads who could have been reporting on
what was happening.

Speaker 4 (01:20:02):
Yeah, oh, a lot of well a lot of those
people who are voting, well, who gets it gets out?
I think hippocritical.

Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Well, it's also like a lot of players I know,
a lot of players retired early because they decided, Okay,
I'm not going to go that route.

Speaker 4 (01:20:18):
But that was just the game.

Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
Everybody was on it, everybody was doing it like it
was like it was the norm. Like they just had greenies,
which was basically speed, just hanging out in the clubhouse
like baseball is every day.

Speaker 4 (01:20:30):
Like give me dingers, give me like just give.

Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
Me action, give me excitement, and Barry Bonds was excitement
and I just put him in the hall. Thank you
for giving him a statue. Thank you so much for
spending your Saturday afternoon with us. I'll see you next week.
Don't go anywhere case Steve Hartman and Martin Wiseer coming
up next here on Fox Sports Radio.
