Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports. Oh what's going on?
I was just gonna say, Don Brown read my mind.
You talk about a day that is fitting for the
DJ airhorn. It is today, baby, as you say, big man,
we got action. How's everything in your world? We got action? Baby?
(00:22):
Oh we heck of a morning. Man. We've got Bama
on the ropes right now. Final minute of the ball game.
They trailed by seven points as they're driving against Auburn.
So we'll keep you updated on that game. And how
about the Michigan Wolverine just play. You had to love
(00:44):
that smash mouth. That was bully ball. That was bullyball
one oh one running for almost three hundred yards. Line
them up, smash him in the mouth. Yes, and watching
that game, but you know how big that game was.
My wife, who can careless about college football, I mean
(01:05):
not even an inkling of interest, woke up early this
morning with me to watch that game and watched every
second of it, like I mean, like he was her
favorite rom com. Props to her. That's amazing, that's love.
(01:27):
That's how big that game was. And the implications of
what that game meant. You know, that was crazy and
what a scene afterwards, all the fans on the field
(01:47):
that was that was like a rave. It was, it
really was. And you want to talk about, you know
what this game means to these kids, you know, not
just hard ball, but these seniors who came back for
this Hutchinson who broke his dad's uh single season sack record.
(02:10):
I mean, look just look at all of the things
that happened in that game, and it was just musty TV.
It really was. And the running didn't disappoint. That was
the tale of the tape right there. In Michigan ran
for two hundred nine seven yards Ohio State only sixty four.
(02:31):
And you mentioned the past rush of Michigan with Aidan
Hutchinson three sacks thirteen total. This season, like you said,
big Man Sait's a school record and David a Joba,
David a Jabba, he's going to be probably a first
round picks. We have Hutchinson and a job of both
first round picks, both first round guys, and that was
the key man the pass rush and b Bye buck Eyes.
(02:55):
Just like that, that's it. We remember all of the
contemplating we win through all the difference scenarios we went
through last week in terms of the college football playoff
rankings and at the end of today, where that would
be and what that meant. Um, it's gonna be a
shake up baby. Yeah. And we still we have to
(03:17):
find out who Michigan place next to. Still has to
see right and as it stands right now, Iowa Sam
is something. We're going crazy, Oh man, Iowa Sam's doing
the running man and everything. Because if Minnesota beats Wisconsin,
Iowa goes to the Big Ten championship game to face.
It's a lot of football left. Minnesota's up twenty to
thirteen over number fourteen Wisconsin. UM and it's nine minutes
(03:41):
left in the fourth quarter, but Minnesota's driving right now.
So this is one of those situations where you know
anything can happen. Even in this Alabama game, it's thirty
three seconds left, Alabama's down by seven with the ball driving.
But remember what I said last week, You're right because
(04:02):
I was just like, NIS doesn't have their quarterback. The
bab is favored by almost three touches. Of course, twenty
and a half point favorites. They've scored three points. It
doesn't I told you it doesn't matter when you get
yourself in these rival rivalry games. That's why the we
talked so much about the Ohio State Michigan game, because
(04:23):
that is the end all be all. Both happened to
be in the top five, which happened ten other times, uh,
in the history of the rivalry. It was so much,
so important. The same importance for me fell on for
Alabama and this Iron Bowl. Like we've seen unranked Auburn
teams beat Alabama, Like we this means something. This is
(04:47):
a family separator, this this type of rivalry, right war
Eagle roll tide. You didn't the whole state is shut
down right now? Yea. And Nick Saban, we'll get to
his rant from earlier this week because it was an
epic rant, but one of the portions that he mentioned,
he was like, there's a tendency for a lot of
(05:09):
fans to not take team seriously if they drop a
couple of games. And he was like, it's the exact opposite.
Udown Alabama seconds left in the game. But Saban was
talking about, hey, we roll our eyes Texas A and
m has dropped a couple of games. You should go
(05:30):
there and beat them, no problem. And he's like, it's
the exact opposite. This makes them more dangerous because they
have pride. Same thing with l s. You you could
also take that and put it with Auburn. You could
maybe pull o Brian. No, you could go into this
game thinking, oh gosh, they have too much talent. They're
gonna roll out Auburn or at least win comfortably. And
(05:51):
now it's a dog fight as Bama tries to tie
it up in the final seconds. Here, yeah, that was
a big play receiver gun wait with a push off. Um,
never gonna call that foul. And in the type of
game this is a game where Alburn has been trying
to give away to excuse me, Auburn's offense has been
trying to give away to Alabama. Yeah you get the
(06:13):
ball back Auburn's quarterback. Yeah you get I mean good lord,
I mean no one else. And he's battling through he's
got me or ankle that he's dealing with. No one
else though, Like, yeah, no one, I don't know one.
(06:34):
I'm talking about a receiver who used to play quarterback
in high school. Possibly could maybe we get the guy
who played quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Remember the untraffed
anybody anyone down, They're gonna check this. It was a
(06:55):
catch because he was standing up and kind of just
fump the ball, but it was clearly a catch, Like
why would you as an Auburn coach. You take away
the threat of the play action, you take away the
threat of a quarterback running, and you just let Alabama's
(07:15):
NFL lineman tee off on your lineman with two minutes
left in the game. All you gotta do is get
a first down, right. The other part of this was
Auburn's running back ran out of bounds. It's forty seconds
right there. This drive, they wouldn't Obama wouldn't have had
enough time. It wouldn't have had enough. That's what I
mean by they've been trying to lose this game, which
(07:37):
looks like they're going to end up doing to Alabama.
And this is Alabama tonight is the anti Michigan. They
cannot run the ball. Alabama has fifty three rushing yards
against Auburn and Michigan had two. Ohio State. Auburn's defense
has been go down right now, fall out. They're showing
(08:00):
him just fall down. Smart for the defender to drag
him out about did he didn't pull him down? He
just kind of you know took him right out of
I mean just just dumb things like you, as a coach,
you call a time out, you bring your offense over,
whatever you do, stay in bounds, whatever you do, secure
(08:22):
the ball, don't fight for extra yards. Right, These are
the things you tell your team when you're used to winning.
That's that's winning. That's when you talk about coaching. That's
what we mean situational football. Everyone on the field, offensively
or defensively, should be aware of the situation in a
(08:44):
game like I'm not gonna go man to man against
three NFL receivers with thirty three seconds left in the
in the football game, right, I'm going to drop everybody
and let you just take what's underneath. I'm not gonna
put my corner man and man, I'm not doing it. Yeah,
(09:06):
it's just the day has been so good in terms
of how high the stakes have been right where Michigan
is in prime position to make it to the college
football playoff to win the Big Ten Championship. Ohio State
season is over. As far as making the playoff, c J.
Stroud the heisman. He had the inside track. He was
the leader in terms of the betting odds and didn't
(09:29):
have a great game against Michigan. They lose, he's probably done.
It's right there for Obama to win this game, being
the SEC championship game. If they could beat Georgia, they'd
be in the playoffs. And also Bryce Young, it's right
there for the Heisman as well. It's great beats Alabama
and over time you're saying, no chance, nohow No. They
(09:51):
have Don Brown at quarterback, all right. Remember remember Don
Brown talked about his high school prowess in in in football,
in basketball. They have Don Brown and quarterback right now.
He was strong in the triple jump. You give him
props for that. I'll give him. I'll give him track
(10:11):
and field. But this, good lord, all right, I'll tell
you what. We're gonna catch our breath here momentarily because
we've got overtime in the Iron Bowl. The steaks are
as high as it gets. Right. The playoff is still
within reach for Alabama with the SEC Championship game lurking
next week. So we will regroup and see what overtime
(10:34):
has in store for us. Also another story here, an
example of top notch trolling that's on the way. I'm

(11:43):
The first possession of overtime goes right down the field,
scores a touchdown. The game is over Amazon seen. I'll
tell you what. Georgia next week is going to throttle Alabama.
What are we talking here? Seventeen seventeen. Yeah, they have
problems with Auburn's defensive line. If you can't run against
(12:09):
it's it's it's over, it's done. George is on another
level with their front step. Yeah, they're on a mission.
They're on a mission this year, and they've prepared for
that mission with this in mind. You know, I was
talking about this last night. I was filling in and
I was just thinking about Georgia and they have the
(12:31):
best chance to win a national championship. Their defense has
been fantastic. But I'm just wondering if they are overvalued
right now because if you look at their schedule, what's
their most impressive win? Is it beating Clemson ten to
three with what Clemson has turned out to be? Is
it throttling Arkansas or Kentucky? You know what I mean? Like,
(12:54):
if you really look closely, I think it's one of
these scenarios where we didn't expect Georgia to be twelve
and oh and they are with the dominant defense, and
I think there's a tendency to be like, oh gosh,
Georgia's just on another level and I pause and I think,
but are they? I mean, it might turn out to be,
but I think there are overvalued a bit heading into
(13:17):
what will be a playoff berth. Where do you think
I don't think they're overvalued at all. I think they've
earned the right to beat number one in the country. Definitely. Um.
You know, it's one of those situations where they beat
all of the ranked teams they had on their schedule,
(13:37):
starting with Clemson, Arkansas, Auburn. All of these teams were
ranked when Georgia played them, and they just throttled them
and so everything everybody except for that Clemson game, you know,
first one out the gate um. And I just don't
think like Georgia has a bitter taste in their mouth
(14:01):
because of Alabama. So writing the confidence of being twelve
and oh and having a superior team. I think they're
prepared for everything that Alabama wants to do and plans
(14:22):
on doing to them. By the way, you're Auburn Tigers
inside the five yard here they are. Let me ask
you this, if they score a touchdown, you do it. Yes, Yeah.
You gotta get this over with the quarterback play, you
gotta get it over. You can't survive. I don't know
(14:43):
it would be ah if you kick it. It's a
seventeen seventeen ball game. Bama hasn't been able to run it.
Bryce Young has really come on down the stretch. He's
had some beautiful things. You want to get this thing
over with because you'll have the first possession in the
second overtime as as Auburn, and if you kick a
field goal, then well we know how this story ends.
(15:08):
I'm gonna go the other direct. Normally I go the
other direction. You know that. Yeah, But watching them right
now trying to get into the goal line. See now,
this is as they're trying to score a touchdown here
and losing yardage by running it, this makes me even
more apprehensive. I would hinge myself on one play than
(15:32):
a whole another series. I would go a whole other
series because it gives you more margin for error. Well,
they got to plays to even get to that. This
whole conversation, we're having a whole argument. You got to
get it in the pace five yards, yeah, which I
don't see happening. No, you're back on Auburn, No chance, huh,
(15:55):
base court? Line up, go for two right now. You've
battled Alabama all game long, You've gone toe to toe
with them. You don't have to take a watch. That's
a great catch. That was one handed, one handiful grab.
(16:20):
Line it up. What do you get it on two
yard line. That was from the five. You know what
I'm saying, if you're going for two from the three,
if you go for two, you get it on a
two yard line from the three. Three. Oh yeah, that's
a lot of yards, is that? See? I'd spread it out,
empty the backfield and just do a quarterback sneak the
I'll limp him into the end zone. I'm kicking it
(16:43):
and giving myself more margin for error. Well you had
you did? They kicked it seventeen seventeen. Alabama's defense is up. Now.
I like it because, man, we've seen this throughout the season.
Right one game comes to mind is Stanford, who's about
to get wrecked by Notre Dame tonight, by the way,
(17:04):
but we don't know that. Oh they're gonna get throttled here.
That's not the way you can throw a candy bar
on what you jump in the gun though, Like, how
do you get all the way to the Notre Dame game?
I'm just saying that. I just said Stanford, who's about
to get throttled by Notre Dame, and then then we
shifted to that. But sticking with Stanford, they've been booty
this year. They're three and eight, they've been terrible, But
(17:26):
what did they do against Oregon? They're big time underdogs.
Over time, they kicked the extra point and got it
to overtime and eventually one. They didn't gamble. They were like,
we're just as good as this team today and that's
all that matters. Maybe they do that to the to
the Irish later on in about thirty minutes. That's blasphemous
(17:47):
right there. You know what, I'll tell you what I'm
excited about. Uh, the eleven and one you might be
going there, Oh you already known with Utah States, whatever,
I don't care who's on the other end. We'll be
playing in the Mountain West Conference Championship. Were you dropping
(18:10):
any curse words when they were down six? Yes? Yeah, yes,
yeah it was Yeah. Goodness, I'm going crazy, well real
fast with your Aztecs. What drives you most crazy? Right? Like?
Do they just have a hard time running the ball
the passing game? What is they're normally superb running to
(18:35):
look at him? The quarterback is limping out onto bad
don't limp like that, bro? Like, I mean, if you're
gonna be out there, we don't need the extra limp
he's limping like he needs crushes right now. Today, I
pictured Ben Roethlisberger, who loves the theatrics of his injuries,
watching this game, Like, wow, that's a bit much, even
(18:55):
for my take Byron Leftwich. When remember my wife if
I watched them harry him down the field on their
shoulders to line up to snap the ball, I mean,
she's yeah, Um, how about this Notre Dame favored by
twenty and a half against Stanford Alabama? Was you you
(19:22):
want to put a candy ball. I haven't watched one
Stanford game, so no, you'd have nightmares if you had,
because they are garbage. They're bad, like really bad. I
don't know how they beat Oregon. Look, look, look, we're
watching Auburn lose yards every play. You had a chance
(19:45):
to win the football game from the three yard line.
Throw the ball from the three yard line. You had
a chance to win the football game. And now you're
going backwards. Yeah, but guess what you went backwards on
two play? I have to do his execute on third down? Good?
Maybe back in business, you want to put a candy
bar on his execution on this one play? I'd rather Okay,
(20:10):
I thought so, I thought so I do like third
and thirteen. You ever guess what happened? So come on, man,
clown this dude. I mean, I get his foot and
even before his foot was hurt, he wouldn't take off
(20:32):
and run. I'm like, where what are you doing? There's
nobody in the middle of the field. Man. It's gonna
be a long field goal here. It's gonna be a
good Like I said, would you rather kick a fifty
one yard field goal or one play for a touchdown
or a two point conversion from the three yard line? Well,
this drive has been brutal, but I knew this was happening.
(20:55):
Though we knew this was going to happen, I like
having more margin for no, this is he's gonna miss
his field goal. Always got this. He's gonna split him.
Watch look at that right down in the middle. This
game could have been over. Oh there three first down?
(21:16):
Boom or right back in business? Naughty Bama. What did
they do? They might have five yards? Just five yards? Okay,
there's only five yards. Oh man, I would have had
a field day if they got a free first down
and eventually scored a touchdown. That would have been just gorgeous.
Guess what if you wouldn't have lost yards on your
(21:40):
actual play. Yeah yeah, oh man, that's not. That's not
that's not. If you would have actually gain yards and
had just helping the third and manageable, that would be
a first time. That's what this is what I'm talking about. Okay,
so what if Bryce Young turns it over here? He's
(22:00):
not gonna turn it over. This is a lock game.
What has he been doing for the last nine minutes
of this game? He's been a stud? Are you giving
this the salam seal of approval? This is lock City.
It's going to be a touchdown by Pama. There was
no hesitants City strong, strong. This could be his heisman moment.
(22:25):
Just letting you know lock City. Yeah, it's They've had
a hard time moving the ball throughout the game, but
the last two drives they've looked really good putting it
in Bryce Young's hands in complete second in tent still
locks City. What would it have to be like third
(22:49):
and fifteen for you to be like, no, no, no,
all right, pretty strong here? You even put a candy
bar on this is You know how much they've had
to do today to even get to this point. Yeah,
you're asking a lot of them. They can handle it
there in the sec got guys that will play on Sunday.
(23:13):
Third and five, third down, this is it. I'm so
curious what this is gonna be. You know, if it's
fourth and one, are you attempted to go for You
can't go for it. But if it is fourth and one,
I know one person did I would call on to
get that yard if it's fourth and one in any way,
(23:33):
in any game, in any sport, I'm calling one guy,
the Derrick Henry of Update Anger, the Mr. Perfect. That's
one stephen p. Keep in mind, gentlemen, we are in
the second overtime. We could be exchanging two point play shortly,
not actually drives incompletely makes it fourth and five quarterbacks
(23:59):
coming off, they'll kick it to tie, and then we'll
just start exchanging two point plays. What's coming up on
Fox TV in a half an hour is sixth rank
Notre Dame at slumping Stanford. But first off, there's a
game to finish forty five seconds left at Minnesota and
the Gophers are still leading fourteenth ranked Wisconsin twenty. That
means it would be Iowa against Michigan next Saturday night
(24:21):
for the Big Ten title. Michigan beat number two Ohio
State forty twenty seven Asan Haskins with five touchdown runs.
Also about to start top ten matchup with Oklahoma at
Oklahoma State. Also seventeenth ranked Pit playing at Syracuse. Number
twenty three Clemson at South Carolina. But good news for
eighteenth wanked Wait Forest. They did wean easily at Boston
(24:42):
College one ten. So Wake goes to next Saturday Night's
a c C Championship against Pit. Among other games that
were late afternoon window, not just Alabama Auburn, not just
this Minnesota game I mentioned. Eleventh ranked Oregon beat Oregon
State thirty eight nine. That me, let's look ahead. It's
not only a rematch with Utah Friday night in Vegas
(25:04):
for the Pack twelve title. The Rose Bowl could be
Ohio State against Oregon, a rematch of that great game
from Ohio Stadium in September. Yeah, the Buckeyes could be
selected still for that game, as they're very much likely
out of the top four. Once we get to the
new standings from the committee next week. Update Oaklore, Oklahoma.
(25:25):
Alabama's field goal is good twenty twenty at Auburn end
of the second overtime and it bears repeating that Alabama
did precious little on offense for the bulk of the
day until their final drive of regulation, which was ninety
seven yards in a minute eleven to tie up the
game at ten. And you guys properly pointed out that
(25:49):
an Auburn running back did not get down in bounds
right before that, very much helping Alabama's and suing drives.
Here we are at twenty twenty Alabama at Auburn, end
of two overtimes. Number one Georgia twelve and oh one
forty five nothing at Georgia Tech. Next Saturday, it will
be Georgia against Alabama in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta.
(26:14):
Number eight Baylor survived twenty seven twenty four against Texas Tech,
which missed a long field goal wide left on the
final play in the snow. At twelve Rank Michigan State
Spartans went again ten and two record. They defeated Penn
State thirty to twenty seven. The late night game three
hours from now will be usc hosting Rank B Y
U very curious to see how many fans are actually
(26:35):
showing at the Colisium for that one. If they dropped
that s c will be finishing the season at four
and seven. Just for the record, l s U out
to a three nothing lead late first quarter against fifteenth
ranked Texas A and M North Texas beat number twenty
two U T San Antonio twenty three. Have you noticed
that we're not following the coastal Carolina U T s
(26:55):
A games like we have with other I don't know
U c F types in pre obvious years. Just for
the Cincinnati there exactly exactly number twenty four. Houston was
a winner at yukon seventeen. Florida defeated Florida State one.
Louisiana Tech lost to Rise thirty thirty one, and it
has now parted ways with coach Skip Holds. The Tennessee
(27:17):
Titans placed wide receiver A. J. Brown on injured reserve.
And in the NHL, the New York Islanders had to
postpone their next two games at least due to COVID issues,
missing up to eight players. Update on Fox TV they're
taking a knee at Minnesota. The Gophers are gonna go
to eight and four. They have beaten number fourteen Wisconsin.
The celebrations underway on the field. The final fantastic news
(27:42):
for Iowa, which is onto the Big Ten title game
on Fox TV next Saturday night against Michigan. Third overtime
underway at Auburn, Alabama with the ball first. Back to you, Steve.
One more thing here all of the date. Can we
didn't talk about the Cincinnati game. You're right it was
(28:03):
a previous day. No, sorry, I didn't mention the Washington
State game. That wast Sorry State game was incredible at
two touchdowns the last two minutes last night. That cares
about that. But what we do care about is, Okay,
the Mighty Aztecs had yet another game. I feel like
(28:24):
we say this every Saturday, yet another game where we
go along and my goodness, they don't have any offense today,
do they? And they were down sixteen three too Boise State.
And later they win the game yet again as you mentioned,
eleven and one, and they'll be hosting a hundred miles
from home, hosting the conference title game next weekend against you.
To thank you, Steve, as always so it could be
(28:47):
defending conference champions, opening a new stadium, always campus, always
next year. A pleasure having you do the update. By
the way, Steve, you can lead a horse to water
for the oak homeo Oklahoma State game today. Right, if
Oklahoma State wins, would Oklahoma State face Baylor in the
(29:08):
conference championship game because Baylor beat Oklahoma head to head,
Baylor has two losses. Yeah, so one of these is
going to have two losses. Right. Baylor already beat Oklahoma
a couple of days ago, a couple of weeks ago.
So yeah, yeah, it would be Oklahoma State and Baylor. Okay,
I was just I wanted to make sure that unless
there's some screwy thing I'm unaware of, yeah, that's the
(29:28):
head to head. The scory thing was the Pack twelve
North because it was a three way tie and so
Washington State, with a better division record, would have advanced
if Oregon lost. I hate to break this up, but
Alabama just scored on a two point conversion. The Auburn
has one play from the three yard line. Should have
did this a while ago. But here we go Bryce
(29:50):
Young to John Mechi, very nice play, and Auburn has
their chance. What are the chances here? What do we
got literally one play for the game here, one player
to continue the game. I would think you'd say the
chances are pretty good with them to go for two
before no, no, no, on that. That's when they had
the upper hand. Now they don't have the upper hand.
They're passing from the three yards. He got it there,
(30:14):
it is there. It is war eagle for eagle. How
about that little little tight end screen right there. Oh,
the heck of a player. They needed that thing. It
looked like it was gonna get stopped. Was it Penn
State earlier where they went like seven eight of these
two point plays in a row without scoring. Illinois State
(30:35):
Illinois and the nickney Lyons lost. How about that Penn
State had lost four or five and James Franklin gets
a tenure extension. Well, Michigan State came off it's worst
loss and a ten year deal for melt Tucker. That's
called the leverage. That's having USC and l s U
and Florida with vacancies and Penn States. Exactly. Frank He's like,
(31:00):
let's just hold on to him like Iowa for years
with Kirk Farrance, Hey might go to the NFL. You know,
he was an assistant in the NFL once and now
what twenty years later and and how many conference titles
in twenty years? Exactly? Yeah, Hey, by the way, while
we're getting all set up for the fourth overtime. Here
some top notch trolling. So Taylor Lawan, he's an offensive
(31:22):
tackle for the Titans. Of course he went to Michigan.
He's a very proud Michigan alum, and he trolled his
head coach, Mike Vrabel. Vrabel, of course went to Ohio State.
So with Michigan crushing Ohio State, Taylor Lawan wrote on Twitter,
I'm making a donation to the University of Michigan in
the name of Jen and Mike Vrabel. It's pretty good
(31:47):
when you're trolling your head coach and talking smack about
the Buckeyes as a Michigan alum. That's very well done
by him. They only expecting that check too. Yeah right,
No kid in Michigan's like, okay, all right, so what
are we doing here? What are we doing here? A
great joke, but how much of what do we got?
What are we doing here? Bro? Some of these donations
(32:07):
is just like, oh, yeah, so and so donated fifty
million dollars, will like name the library after him or whatever.
But it's crazy the money coming in, dude, It's not
insane crazy. Okay, So your Auburn Tigers lining up for
two in the fourth overtime. What are you thinking here?
Are you're feeling good? You're not feeling good. The reason
(32:31):
I'm not because they struggled to just score right. That
play was almost a disaster, but they only didn't worked.
So let's see here, I'm pulling for him, always pulling
for the underdog. Give it right to him, give it
to him, shotgun, we'll fake the sweep, roll to the right. Bro,
(32:51):
No good, no, no chance. You gotta score here. BAM's
got a score or else we're going to overtime number five.
What the thing is is you always want to be
in the position to end it on your possession, right,
You always want to be in the position to end
(33:12):
it on your possession. That's what that two point conversion
at the end of the you know, of the game
would have been, of the end of the first overtime
would have been. You end it on your possession and
it's over. You have gone. You've gone flip flop city
over here, only only kicking it and go into overtime.
(33:34):
I like that. When you have a chance offensively, they
don't have you. You're you're you're watching what I'm watching.
I'm watching. I think it's pretty close. Listen up, Bama
went three and out and had to say that was easy.
That was easy. That was easy. I watched the route unfold.
It was easy done. So Peyton Manning says on the
(33:58):
Manning cast a burger out like a little in out.
So who would have benefited from them going for two?
I look at all the crying faces, right, who would
have benefited? Yeah? All, but that one screenplay that they
ran that they actually got the two point conversion on.
(34:19):
What if they would have used that play? If they
would at the end of regular that's what I'm talking about. Well,
we'll never know. Why. Look the kids over there one
on one, it's that he'd be He's going to be
in the NFL next year. I mean he he'll be lining.
(34:40):
He'll be on someone's fantasy football team next year. And
Bryce Young the Heisman. Come on, man, this kid can't
come on one on one. That's too easy. There's nothing
He hit him with the slant in the first one.
Now he faked the slant and did a whip route
and it was it's all were It's easy. Yeah, they
(35:02):
knew that though. It's a little like you remember Julian
Edelman running that route against the Seahawks and the Super Bowl.
He just went in out in his wide open It
was very much like that. But what would have helped
is if they would have flexed a linebacker out and
told the cornerback, don't worry about the slant. We got
(35:23):
a linebacker sitting there. Play outside leverage. That's how you
do that. That's how you stopped that. But I'm not
I'm not a defensive coordinator. And they lose by seventeen
next week against Georgia. Yes, yes, Obama is going to
what what do you think Bama is going to be?
(35:47):
What do you think what do you think Michigan is
going to be? Ranked? Michigan, let's see, they were five,
they're gonna leap frog of course, are they going to
leap frog sinc? Are they going to leap frog Bama?
Probably based on this game? Right, So that's what I'm
looking at. You know, let's do that coming up next.
What will the rankings be after this week? And there's
(36:10):
a little bit left to sort out it just pencil
and Notre Dame winning like forty two to seven, you know,
just kind of guestimate and we'll take it from there.
Coming up I'm Brian No, he's he from Salam. This
is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian No, he's he from
Salam here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, so the results
(36:32):
are flying in. Huh as we look at what the
playoff rankings are gonna look like. On Tuesday, we have
most most of the results in Georgia shut out Georgia Tech,
so they're gonna be number one. Ohio State lost, so
Audio Smucciacos. As far as number two goes, Bama barely
holds on in what was it four overtimes? Yeah, against
(36:58):
Auburn they win two at two. Cincinnati wins. They finished
the regular season twelve and oh Michigan rolls over Ohio State.
So how does it look this? We know the four teams,
we just don't know the order. It's gonna be Georgia
in no certain order, Georgia, Bama, Cincinnati in Michigan. How
(37:22):
do you rank Bama since in Michigan two through four? Um,
I take Georgia one, Michigan to Alabama three, Cincinnati four. Wow,
So you've got Michigan leap frogging both Bama and since
what the way they beat Ohio State? Yes, that was
(37:46):
that was impressive, that was physically dominant, so that'd be
exactly what it is now. It'll be interesting what they do,
you know, based on the Notre Dame game and the
outcome of this Oklahoma State Oklahoma game, because that'll be in.
(38:10):
One of them is going to be eleven and one.
So I think they'll both just move up. I think
they'll both move up past Ohio State. But I don't
see either Notre Oklahoma leap frogging any So you'll keep
what does Notre Dame go to five? Yeah, Notre Dame
would be fifth, Oklahoma State would be six, and Ohio
(38:31):
State would drop below both those teams. But I don't
see Notre Dame or Oklahoma leap frogging anybody. But Ohio State.
They're not gonna leap frogging team that won. I don't
see that happen. Yeah, so Notre Dame would be right
on the outside looking in. So what we do when
we talked to a lot about this last week is
(38:53):
there was there was going to be too vacant spots
right Alabama almost may that happened in one week. We
were saying after the conference championships, the potential of two
vacant spots would be there, meaning Alabama would lose in
Ohio State or Michigan would lose. So Ohio State lost,
(39:17):
that spot is now vacant. Now it's going to be
taken up by Michigan. So now you know, the SEC
championship game with Georgian Alabama, one of those spots will
be vacated. Should be should be. The only way is
Alabama messed around in one. Yeah, Alabama wins, then Georgia
(39:39):
goes to four, right at worst, At worst Alabama moves
to one, and then it's michigand one. They'd be like
two or three something like that. I don't know if
they would. I think they would probably would. They would
go to they would definite then go to one. Yeah
(40:01):
they would. But we're not gonna have to cross that bridge.
We don't have to, you know, So it's going to
This is great, This is great for college football. So
much UH is on the line for these conference championships,
and you know, the thing I'm excited about is um
Like we talked about my Aztecs eleven and finished eleven
(40:23):
and one, and UH, I'm interested to see what they're
going to be ranked going into the conference championship. Yeah,
I mean they'll be uh what uh, let's see scrolling down,
scrolling down, Aztecs one. Okay, so they you know, maybe
they squeak into the teens. Maybe maybe maybe will definitely
(40:46):
being a team I'm thinking like fifteen. When this thing
shakes out, they may be in the top ten when
it's all said and done. Goodness you are are you wearing? No?
But what I'm saying, if they end up twelve and
one with the conference championship, you know most of these
teams in front of them will be removed because right,
So that's what I'm saying. I'm like, if they win,
(41:08):
if they went out win the conference championship on Saturday,
that next Tuesday, they could be in the top ten
in the final, the final, in the final standings of
the year, they could be in the top ten. That's
what I'm saying. Now, I think that's too high, Candy bar.
I mean, it's not a lot of twelve. It wouldn't
(41:29):
be a lot of twelve and one teams. We haven't
made many Candy bar bets. I can't remember where it stands.
I think you're up by one. Thing. I'm up to
gotta go, we gotta go to break, gotta go to
break up. That's the best record, but the worst thoughts
all what's going on? Welcome to your official Notre Dame
pregame show, as the Irish are set to throttle Stanford.
At least I'm gonna put it at a minimum of
(41:53):
twenty eight points. It's gonna be a four touchdown win
by the Irish over Stanford. Thing you're putting the candy
bar on that, I'm put in the candy bar minus
twenty one. You in, no, no, no, that's not what
you just said. Yeah, I think they went four touchdowns,
all right, put a candy bar on it. But I'm
getting you started off the segment making making a bold prediction,
(42:17):
and I ask you what your candy bar? Where your
mouth is? And you want a backpedal? Hold on, let
me look at it. Wait a minute, what about the
point I'm in Vegas and I said in Vegas and
I'm just saying, I'm just running through this. If I'm
in Vegas and I say, hey, I think the Packers
are gonna win by ten points tomorrow night or tomorrow
(42:38):
against the Rams, would I go to the betting window
and just be like, hey, I mean I do think
they're gonna win by ten, So in good faith, I
would like you to put the line at nine and
a half. Is that what I was supposed to know?
You're right, You're right, You're right. Um. The only problem
is I'm not a betting window. This is in Vegas.
(42:59):
You proclamated that the Irish will win by twenty eight points,
and then I asked you to step up to that
with the candy bar, and you start stuttering. We can
put it at twenty seven and a half. We're putting
in it at because that's the voices came on. So
(43:20):
it should be at twenty seven and a half. Right,
that's exactly what it should be. Why it could be good?
I need candy bar. Odds, it's a candy going once,
going twice. Lock it in, lock it in, lock it in,
(43:42):
let's go and your plus one in the candy bar. Yes,
I am. This could make us even Stephen, No, this
could you could be up by two? You know I'm
saying if you want, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, you'd be
right what you want. I like how you're thinking, you're
already chucking this up, is gonna win by thirty one
or okay? So the injury front in the NFL. The
(44:06):
Tennessee Titans. Okay, so they have the best record in
the a f C right now, but they have some
of the worst odds to make it out in route
to a Super Bowl because you not only have Derrick
Henry on the shelf now, their wide receiver A. J.
Brown has been placed on injured reserve. He's gonna miss
at least the next three games. He's got a chest injury.
(44:27):
Also has a rib issue and a hand issue. He's
all banged up. So you have no Derrick Henry, no
A J. Brown as you go into New England and
face the Patriots who have won five straight. That that's
not a sexy formula right there. No, that's not a
good formula at all. That's a recipe for disaster. Yeah.
So when you look at the playoff picture and you
(44:49):
look at these Titans, I mean, there's a chance Derrick
Henry comes back, but we don't know if he will. Yeah,
and they don't scare me. Yeah, you know, you know,
even a New England elicits a certain amount of fear
because of Belichick. And you know what the Patriots have
(45:10):
been able to do this year. But Tennessee without Derreck Henry,
without A J. Brown, without Julio Jones, It's like it's
a lot. It's like, yeah, like, that's not I'm Ryan Tannehill.
He's gonna I mean, Ryan Tannehill comes down and throw
for four in the yards and five touchdowns and deserve it.
(45:33):
But what are the what's the likelihood of that's happening?
And I also think that man, all these dudes out
at the same time. Yeah, that's not that's not good.
It's one thing if you if they have both A J.
Brown and Julio Jones and you're missing Derrick Henry, that's
still a big loss. But at least you have your
weapons to throw too. But you got all these dudes out.
(45:54):
That's a lot to compensate for. Yeah, it's too much
to compensate for for any team. Um, even with an
elite quarterback, that's difficult to to get done. Almost impossible
with a serviceable quarterback, which what is what Ryan Tannehill's
(46:15):
air Tannehill is to you? Uh yeah, he's a serviceable
quarterback because, um, the thing that helped him was an
unbelievable running game. Uh, superior receiver at least one and
uh uh grinded, take every yard physical defense. Now, defense
(46:35):
stays the same, but offensively those weapons have been stripped
away from him from for injury. So conventional wisdom is like, Okay,
now are you willing to to We've seen what Ryan
Tannehill is like without talent around him, right, ask Miami
what that looks like? Well, you're you know, Miami guy,
(46:58):
Miami fans, you know exactly what that looks like. No,
exactly what that picture looks like. I ask you a
little bit to do with that, right, I ask you,
are you willing to put your faith in Ryan Tannehill
to be able to hold onto this thing and come
out of the A C No, not with this many
players hurt right now, it's just too much. You think
(47:19):
about the play action passing game that's a big part
of their offense, and it's not even close to the
same without Derrick Henry. And I do think that Tannehill
he's somewhere between average and good. That's really where he is.
So I think Serviceabowl is a good way to describe him.
He's certainly not elite. He's not a great quarterback. But
you can win games with the guy. But you can't
(47:40):
have your big dog Derrick Henry out along with Julio
and A. J. Brown on the shelf. That's just too much.
So against the Patriots tomorrow minus seven. That's looking like
the Patriots are gonna win their sixth straight and they're
leading the a f C East right now. That's crazy
to me. Who would have thought that was gonna happen? Yeah,
(48:01):
but here we are, man, Welcome to the a f C.
It is the wild wild West. Now. In terms of
speaking of another injury, how about this with Aaron Rodgers.
It just happened earlier this week where he just casually
talked about his broken toe like so, he joked around
about it on the Pat McAfee show on Tuesday. He
said it was COVID toe, and then the Wall Street
(48:24):
Journal ran with the story thinking that Aaron Rodgers was
like serious about this, and so Rogers came out in
the press conference the next day set the record straight
in very condescending fashion. Here's Aaron Rodgers on his injured toe.
I can't believe I have to again come on here
and talking about my medical information. I have a fractured toe.
(48:46):
I've never heard a COVID till before. I have no
lesions on my feet. That's just a classic case of disinformation.
It's surprising coming from what used to be a reputable
journalistic institution, but that's that's the world we live in
these days. There you go a little bit of back
and forth between Aaron Ryan. Is he making himself more
(49:06):
and more unlikable? Man? He is? Every week he becomes
more and more unlikable. He's a heel. He's just like
a pro wrestling heel. And it's fun um. But yeah,
if he's trying to be more unlikable, he's succeeding because
that's what happens every year. Yea, every week it seems
(49:29):
to be another step in that direction. But here's the deal.
Outside of this, he's jogging around about COVID toe with
the Wall Street Journal runs this report. He's very like, yeah, gosh,
you got it wrong, and I can't believe I have
to talk about my medical information and all this stuff.
He's always the victim. But instead of looking at that,
let's look at the injury. He was fantastic against the
(49:52):
Vikings last week, but a broken toe. You know, he
talked about maybe having surgery this next week. The Packers
have their bye week coming up next week. I don't
see that happening, big man. I don't think he's just
casually having toe surgery and he's back to playing right
after the bye. Well, the thing is, you can't do
anything for a broken toe in terms of, you know,
(50:15):
you can get it and like place a small opinion,
but other than that, I mean, you can't cast your
toe or anything like that. So it's kind of like
if you have to be able to just deal with
the pain, you know, which is difficult because if it's
his big toe, then you know people who have been
(50:36):
out for for weeks for a turf toe, sure, let
alone a fracture. And that's what he's compared it to.
He says, it's a lot like turf toe, which can
be a whole thing. Of course, it depends on what
position you play. That matters a lot. But Aaron Rodgers
uses his legs, he buys time, he picks up yards,
and we've seen this before in playoff games where he
(50:58):
had the calf injury a few years own that really
limited his mobility. That's a big deal. I think, yeah, yeah,
I think that could be a play a big role
in the NFC playoff picture. It's definitely, UH, something you
got to keep your eye on because you know, like
(51:18):
the a f C, the NFC is is pretty wide
open right now. You know, oh, it is, absolutely it is.
It's uh, it's completely up for grabs. Think about how
much it's changed week by week. Where Tennessee's just a
couple of weeks ago they beat the Rams member Sunday
Night football, big win for them on the road, and
(51:39):
it's like, whoa look out for the Titans, and you
fast forward to the here and now and you're like,
oh my gosh, it looks terrible for Tennessee right now
with all their injury issues. And it was just a
few weeks ago it looked horrible for Kansas City. They're
losing games left and right. They're not looking good at all.
They actually got dusted by Tennessee to three, and today
(52:01):
Kansas City's chances look a whole lot better. They do.
They are getting right at the at the right of
uh at the right time, which is is the thing
that you need to do. December, end of January, end
of November, December, you gotta be hitting on all cylinders.
Tennessee is going the other way and because of injury
(52:22):
UH and Kansas City has been steadily righting the ship
that was off course at the beginning of the year,
and and this thing is going to flip, right, Like,
this thing is going to flip because you look at
Baltimore and not quite sure what Baltimore is with or
(52:44):
without uh um lamar h Buffalo. I mean, can you
engauge them? They're goofy. They're so goofy because they're scary goofy.
Their defense is so good, but they torched by Jonathan
Taylor last week and they lost to the Jags six.
(53:09):
I mean, how do you Yeah, And then you look
at Cincinnati A right, Okay, what is what is? What
are we doing with Cincinnati? Who are they going to be?
And we too the only it is so weird to
say this, but the only real consistent team as of
now in the a f C are the New Orleans Patriots. Yeah.
(53:35):
And the thing with them is, and I hate saying
that they play sound ball sound for they do not
beat themselves. They don't they run the ball. Well. Mac
Jones has done his thing. They haven't asked him to
do too much. They are not going to put him
in harm's way. Yeah, But I also look at when
(53:55):
you fast forward to the playoffs. You've got to pull
a Belichick on Belichick. Belichick doesn't allow you to beat
him with what you do best. And so if you're
game planning against the Patriots, you just gotta slow down
the running game, Like look at their wide receivers. You
have to make a rookie quarterback throw the guys named
nikkil Harry Nelson, Agalore and the law firm of Jacoby
(54:21):
and Myers. You know that's what you're gonna have to
do to beat us. Good luck? Yeah, yeah, let's see
if he can just go for two touchdowns in a
buck thirty five. I tell you what he's he's completing
of his passes as a rookie. It's it's really good,
but it's a lot of safe stuff. He's making quick decisions.
(54:46):
Five yards on a quick pass. That's five yards. But
they are not built at all to come from behind,
and they might have to, and they'll be screwed if
that's what they need to do in the playoffs. Man,
I can't wait. It's gonna be a lot of fun
(55:08):
just leading up to the playoffs, but certainly when we
get there. I just think this year, more than a
lot of recent years, it's just get hot at the
right time. Of course, avoid the injury issues, that's obvious,
but you just get gotta get hot at the right time.
Look at Tampa, they were seven and five and they
wanted to run one eight straight games. And I think
there are a lot of years, big man, where if
(55:30):
you got hot at the right time, it wouldn't matter
because there are teams out there that are just better
than you. Look at Kansas City the last couple of years,
even if you got hot, even if Buffalo got hot,
they just weren't on Kansas City's level yet. But I
think this year it's so wide open, especially in the
a f C. It's just get that rhythm going and
(55:51):
you could just get on a heater and right it
all the way to the Lombardi. I really see that happening. Yeah,
which team wants to heat up? Yeah? Which team is
capable of feeding? You know? All? Right? Coming up next,
we get to some crazy rankings, crazy and also a
rant for the ages. I'm Brian No, He's he from
salam This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian No, He's
(56:16):
he from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio. Where do
you stand on Jimmy Hendrix, Big Man ses everybody else
stand on Jimmy Hendrix gotta be Where does he stand
compared to your boy Prince? Um. Jimmy was before my time,
but he was a huge influence on Prince, absolutely man
(56:41):
and his guitar playing. UM. I put prints out there
because Prince played every single instrument known to man, and
he played it on his albums. So it's pretty. That's pretty.
That's pretty difficult to do. You know what I would
say is the opposite it of remarkable. Is Our colleague
(57:03):
Arnie Spaniard has texted me his updated playoff rankings. Are
you ready for this? Georgia number one, Bama number two,
Michigan number three, number four, Make sure you're buckled. Ohio
(57:25):
State number five, Cincinnati number six, Notre Dame. I just
wrote your high. There's no ways Ohio State is above
Cincinnati and Notre Dame. No way, No, you can't know. No,
you can't even justify that. No, no, yeah, you can't. No, no, no,
(57:52):
it's not gonna happen. There's a big difference between arguing
what you think should be and realizing what will be.
That would have that would have been the case is
if Ohio State was undefeated. Yeah, but two losses and
just getting rolled like that. Yeah, that's that that that's
not working for us. No, that's not No, that's exactly right.
(58:14):
Terrible job by Luke Fickle, the Cincinnati head coach, doing
pull ups after the win against East Carolina last night.
Did you see that he got to like two and
a quarter? I hope that he was being pulled down
by the Bearcat players because that third poll up that
was terrible. That was awful. That was That was a
(58:35):
group of five pull up right there. I'm pretty sure
that's what it was. Um So Nick Saban's rant for
the Ages. Did you hear this thing? Big man? Oh
my gosh. He he went on a tirade over here.
So we'll give you a little piece of it. This
(58:56):
is Nick Saban on Hey coach, it's Alabama Coaches Show.
It's a radio call in show, and I'll play the
call for you because it's not like this caller checked
in and said, hey coach, why didn't you beat this
team by forty five points? Like, listen to the call
that inspires the rants. Here you go, how do you
(59:16):
keep the rat poising from the media on? How do
you get the team to tune it out, you know,
for example, it with Arkansas, we were supposed to blow
them out and then you don't do it. And it's
because you have created such a game atmosphere that we
go to the games knowing we're gonna win, but we
(59:38):
just don't know that how much. And they cut them
off right there and they're like, Okay, this is like
the coaches turning red. This guy is going on for I.
I took it like, coach, you're doing such an amazing job.
How do you deal with the high expectations that fans
have when you don't blow a team out and that's
what we expect? That w better way to convey that. Yeah,
(01:00:04):
I think that's what he was getting at. Maybe said
it a little differently, right, But this is Saban reacting
to that question. Now, it was lengthy. We trimmed it
down a little bit, but this is the main portion
of the rant. When I came here, everybody was happy
to win a game, all right. Now we're not happy
to win a game anymore. We're not happy to win
a game at all, all right. We think we should
(01:00:24):
win games by whatever, and I don't think that's fair
to the players either. Alright, because our players work are
their butt off to be the best that they can
be I and to get criticized for what they work
hard for to do so that you can be entertained,
all right, so that you can enjoy and have pride
and passion for what they accomplished and what they do.
And they're not perfect. They're just college students. They're going
(01:00:48):
to they go to school every day. They got to study,
all right, they have to run extra after practice when
they missed study. Hall. I mean, come on, give me
a break. This is not professional football. These guys aren't
getting paid to play here. They're representing you all. You
should be proud and happy to support them and appreciate
what they do and have some gratitude. And you know
(01:01:09):
what else, Nobody wants to win worse than they do,
Not me, not you, I don't care what kind of
fan you are. Nobody wants to win more than the
players that played. Nobody. That was magnificently said. And nobody
feels worse than they do when they lose. Nobody. He's
(01:01:33):
not done. So for all you self absorbed folks out
there that can't look past your own self like to
appreciate what other people are doing. Okay, Saban is destined
for talk radio. A lot of truth in that. There
is a lot of truth in that. I can understand
(01:01:56):
how listen, Bama the season they've had, they've lost one game,
this is still a really good season. It's just we're
used to Bama being more dominant, and so I can
understand how they're still putting forth a good effort getting results.
And you got all these fans that are like, why
didn't we beat LSU? Buy more? That would get really
(01:02:19):
annoying real quick. Yeah, that's a that's a good way
to drive someone crazy, you know what I mean when
you're reaching a level of success constantly, a constant level
of success, not you know, this year good and not
the ebbs and the flows, but always flowing m hm,
(01:02:40):
and people start questioning the flow m right, like man, yeah,
you guys are really good, but you should be better.
What Yeah, how many national championships? Seven Nicks having one
six with Bama? Right, So at what point? I mean,
(01:03:02):
I guess that's the you know, people just one more
for whatever reason. And I'm glad he just torch that
that sentiment. He had a great quote he did. Uh,
It's like a TV special with Bill Belichick and they're
just talking to each other talking about football, and Saban said,
(01:03:25):
once you climb the mountain, you become the mountain. And
that's what Bama has become. They are the mountain. They
get everybody's best shot. He's right about that. But where
he loses me is when he's talking about the self
absorbed folks out here and not being gracious and all that. Okay,
I hear where he's coming from. But Nick Saban is
(01:03:48):
leading the charge. How many times do you here, Like
the first game of the year, Alabama rolls and Nick
Saban sounds like his team lost by four or five touchdowns,
you know, because he knows it's gotta be better for
them to beat the best teams out there. So he's
the most guilty of saying that's gotta be better, that's
gotta be better. We're not good enough in this area.
(01:04:10):
So he can say it, but he's gonna take offense
to other people saying basically the same thing. Yeah, because
he's striving for perfection. As a fan, just watch and enjoy.
Don't criticize the victories. You can't do that as a fan.
Don't criticize the victories. You know, if Alabamas out there
(01:04:32):
getting blown out, okay, come to the table with something.
But you know at the time they were what the third,
the second ranks second in the in the in the country.
So don't do that. Don't do that. Don't do that.
(01:04:53):
What are you talking about here? Here's one thing I
pulled this up. This is Nick Saban. This is when
they're playing Chattanooga. Okay, and of course they're gonna roll Chattanooga.
This is a little while ago. But listen, Nick say
been going into halftime talking about his team. We're not
doing a very good job of pass protecting. We're not
prolling the ball on time, we don't have much consistency
(01:05:15):
on offense running pass. I mean, I'm embarrassed wh we
played the South. You know when he's talked about embarrassment,
you know what I mean, Like, we didn't do this,
we didn't do that, we didn't do this. Uh. One
thing we're very rarely uh something we very rarely experienced
(01:05:37):
on this show is embarrassment from one of our colleagues.
I mean, this is the guy who anywhere, anytime, when
the poetic siren that he is, when he's issuing these updates.
(01:05:58):
I mean, he's an artist and that's our very own
stephen A. I thought it would be S for Siren Artiste. Baby,
it's certainly not S for Stanford. They have one on
the side of their helmets. But my goodness, Stanford, if
you've seen Stanford football the last month plus, it ain't
anything to write home about. And I know, are you
laying in our inflated points spread tonight here, Steve Well,
(01:06:22):
that would be like thirty one to three. Yeah, that
sounds like a normal score. Notre Dame Stanford. Yeah, the
Notre Dame is out in it's three plus games in November.
Notre Dame is outscored its opponents one to nine. They're
up seven nothing at Stanford under five minutes to go
in the first quarter. And then there's the Alabama win
where Nick Saban smiled a smile we have not seen,
(01:06:44):
even after some national championships, the way they pulled this
game out four overtimes. They win at rival Auburn. Two
third ranked Alabama had almost no offense for four quarters
and got a touchdown at the end of regulation to
tie at ten ten against an auburentinam without its injured
quarterback and kicker and Bama wins twenty four twenty two,
(01:07:06):
simply amazing. Among the games in progress, end of the
first quarter at seventh ranked Oklahoma State, Cowboys lead the
Oklahoma Sooners fourteen to seven at l s U at
seventeen seven, Tigers ahead of number fifteen Texas A and
M at halftime. Number seventeen pit has tied it up
seven seven at Syracuse second quarter and early second quarter.
Clemson leads at rival South Carolina seventeen to nothing. Among
(01:07:30):
the other games going second quarter at Kansas, which is
one in seven in conference, Jayhawk's only down fourteen thirteen
to West Virginia early second quarter. Kentucky leads at Louisville
fourteen to seven. Number one Georgia next Saturday at twelve
and oh will be facing Alabama eleven and one in
the SEC championship game in Atlanta. Georgia beat Georgia Tech
(01:07:50):
in Atlanta forty five nothing. Today Stetson Bennett four touchdown passes.
Number five Michigan defeated number two Ohio State finally forty
two twenty seven. Next Saturday night at the Big Ten
title game on Fox TV, Michigan against Iowa didn't see
that one coming. Minnesota beat number fourteen Wisconsin twenty three thirteen.
(01:08:10):
The Badgers could have clinched the division title. I was
only way in was a Badger lost. The Badgers lost.
Also among the games today, number eight Baylor escaped at
home twenty four over Texas Tech. Number eleven Oregon won
its Division onto the Pack twelve title game in a
rematch with Utah Ducks beat rival Oregon State thirty eight
to twenty nine. In the snow at twelfth ranked Michigan
(01:08:32):
State Spartans went to ten and two, beating Penn State
thirty to twenty seven. You mentioned the new contract for
the Penn State head coach. Recently, Penn State went four
and five in conference. Any great team in that conference
they lost to all of them, just for the record now,
and they're going to a bowl game, of course, because
they're you know what, eighty spots to fill in bowl games.
(01:08:52):
The late game tonight will have USC hosting. Number thirteen
b y U ten thirty pm Eastern time. Number eighteen
Wake Forest was a four one ten winner at Boston College.
Wait goes to next Saturday Night's a c C title
game against pitt North Texas down number twenty two u C.
San Antonio twenty three, So the road Runners will not
go undefeated number twenty four Houston seventeen winners at Connecticut.
(01:09:17):
It will be Houston at Cincinnati next Saturday in the
American Conference Championship game. Can I mention about Connecticut's football
program Monday? Officially Jim Morris starts as their head coach,
but Yukon has lost thirty six of its last thirty
seven games against FBS opponents. They had an attendance of
twelve thousand in Connecticut for a ranked team visiting them today.
(01:09:41):
This is a program that did not play at all
last year and then went one and eleven this year.
That is Connecticut football. Ouch. We do have an NBA
dote as Joel and Beat is back on the court
at Philadelphia tonight. Philly's record just ten and nine early season,
but in b back after three weeks off due to
about with Covid and his phil team is in overtime
(01:10:01):
trailing one oh five one oh four to Minnesota. Joel
and be after a slow start thirty one points and
eleven rebounds tonight. Back to you good stuff, Stephen Brian No,
He's e from Salam here on Fox Sports Radio. I
want to go back to the smile from Nick Saban
that Steve de Sagra was pointing out big Man. This
to me indicates that Nick Saban knows he doesn't have
(01:10:24):
too many more years on the sideline, right, because he's
been a guy that it's gotta be better, it's got
to be better. We're not good enough in this area.
We gotta be better, you know. And I think that
this isn't saying it's in a knock on his competitiveness
or anything, but I think when you start to see
the finish line a little bit more vividly, and it's
(01:10:47):
not to say he's gonna hang him up after this year.
I think he has a number of years left, but
he knows that he doesn't have too much more time left.
I think you start enjoying the wins more when you
get him, you know, and winning the ball. It was crazy,
it was four overtime game, Old Nick say. But if
this is you know, five seven years ago, he might
be like, I don't know what was going on. We
(01:11:08):
can't run the ball. I wait, you can't. Now at
this stage, a little more smiling going on, maybe too
upset he understands that number one, they got away with one,
they did, and number two, they got a heck of
a mountain to climb next week. That's like role reversal.
(01:11:29):
Normally Bama is the mountain, Right, So he understands that
he's gonna cherish this one because they got away with one,
and he doesn't want to be unfocused for what's about
to happen. They're gonna have to bring their a game.
They show up with the Alabama team they had today,
they're gonna get rolled. I know the Heisman debate hasn't
(01:11:52):
been a big topic this year, but I do find
this interesting. Bryce Young he led the our drive at
the end of regulation through the touchdown to Jacory Brooks,
and then he hooked up with John Mecchi twice for
two a pair of two point conversions right and the
third OT and the fourth O T that won the game.
(01:12:14):
So Bryce Young came up big. He's easily leading this
Heisman race with what happened to c. J. Stroud and
the Buckeyes in an arbor today, Right, But what happens
if Bryce Young in Bama get rolled next week by Georgia?
Who do you give the Heisman to? At that point,
(01:12:34):
I mean, you still give it to the kid. I
mean he's had lights out year, right, I mean, that's
just what it is. He's still had a great year.
And even c J. Stroud today had a good game,
he was just under pressure through foremost four yours. Yeah,
and he's not playing rush defense. That's how they lost
(01:12:57):
the game. They couldn't stop the run, you know what
I mean. So even when these teams lose, we tend
to look at the players who are for the Heisman like, oh,
it's their fault, not I had nothing to do with him.
They couldn't stop you from running the ball. Well, I
mean I'm still pretty spry. Seven yards to carry. Yeah,
(01:13:18):
that's hard to do that. It's hard to do against
the top, a top team, and it's also hard to
combat that as a as an offense. What that means
your team is you're you're, you're you're not on the
field very much. So you're able to rest all of that. So,
(01:13:40):
you know, offensively speaking, there's only so much you can do.
When when you look at you know, Michigan, who had
a plan coming into this. They were like, this is
a plan. Smash mouth, smash mouth, right and B and
c just bullyball. We're doing. We're going to prolong these drives.
(01:14:04):
We're going to force our will upon They rushed the
ball forty one times seven point two yards to carry
almost three hundred yards rushing only through the times. And
you look on the other side. I mean, this kid
was nine for three and ninety four yards with no
(01:14:27):
running game, with zero running games. He didn't throw any interceptions,
you know. So, I mean, you can't take him out
of the conversation. Well, he'll be there, he's in the conversation.
But that's the last game for C. J. Stroud before
the ballots are cast. Like, he's not gonna win it
(01:14:50):
unless Bryce Young just has the stinker of stinkers against Georgia.
That's the only way I get it. I mean, you know,
it would be funny to me to to, you know,
see a whole year of outstanding play be gone in
the game, which makes zero sense. And by the way,
how about the other quarterback, Stetson Bennett, who has been
(01:15:13):
He's been all right, But what if he has this
great game, is he gonna get some Heisman push at
the very end, I mean, to the point of winning it,
I think is a stretch but he might be there
for it by in any event. It's just something to
keep your eye on going forward. Coming up next, this
man is taking money out of his own pocket. I'm
(01:15:37):
Brian No, He's he from Salam. This is Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Brian No, He's he from Salam. Here on Fox
Sports Radio. We have the Big Three coming up next hour,
three picks against the NFL point spreads. I told you
I'm not picking games anymore. Man, I'm done. I'm just
gonna randomly let you. I'll let you pick my games
(01:15:59):
from me from here on out of control. That sounds
like like you might have gone on in three twice.
That's to that. You know how almost impossible it is
to do that. Yeah, that's held it off. That's how
unpredictable the NFL has been this year. It has been
(01:16:20):
a crazy year. Makes zero sense. I don't know. I
don't know how professional betters make a living off this stuff.
I really don't. I don't know how. How can you
consistently pick games well enough where you are putting money
in your pocket consistently? I really don't know. I don't
know how they do know. Somebody's tearing the hotel rooms
(01:16:43):
and apartments, all kinds of stuff is going on. Um.
One of the goofy teams this year, the Cleveland Browns,
they've had some random results and if you look at
their quarterback Baker Mayfield, he's playing through injuries right now.
He's banged up right, but he's got a laboring tear
(01:17:04):
in his non throwing shoulder. It's clearly affecting him. That see,
if they feel sorry for you, well, there are a
lot of teams that are gonna have their own injury issues,
and certainly there's not gonna be pity, but it is
a factor. And if you look at Baker the last
two games, he's been brutal. So against the Patriots, passer
rating was fifty six point three and then last week
(01:17:28):
against the Lions, passer rating was fifty three point two.
That's not qb R. It's passer rating okay, like a
hundred is now we're talking. He's in the fifties. That's awful,
had too awful interceptions last week against the Lions. And
you're thinking about not just this year but the future
(01:17:49):
with Baker Mayfield. His fifth year is guaranteed he's gonna
make about eighteen point eight million dollars next year, and
the question becomes for the Browns, what do you do
with this guy? Because he's at least been much better
than the duds you've had for the last two decades.
But he's still nothing special and not worth big time money.
(01:18:10):
So how do you play this thing? What makes the
most sense? I don't know, man, I don't how do?
How do? What? You tell me? You're the expert. Okay,
I'll tell you exactly what you do. You just let
him play out his fifth year and if he plays
(01:18:31):
really well and it ends up costing you a little
bit more with the contract extension, so be it. But
you don't have enough right now to feel secure with
guaranteeing him a ton of cash. You all you do?
Minnesota already showed us, I mean, Washington already showed us
what the motto was, You Kirk Cousins. That's right, that's it.
(01:18:53):
Touchdown Irish, trying to ignore it, inching closer to a
candy bar from me. Yeah, but you what you what
you do is you you you Kirk Cousins. And if
you do want to retain him, if nothing better is
on the horizon, then you um franchise tag him? Right right, Yeah,
(01:19:17):
pay him some shillings. Now if he comes back out
the next year and balls out, you read you know
you see right? Are you franchise MG? I think that
in the NFL you can't be afraid to be bold.
Look at Kansas City, like Baker Mayfield is a lesser
(01:19:38):
version I think of Alex Smith. He's at least a
comparable version of Alex Smith, right where they're serviceable, but
they're not going to be the reason that you're winning
games left and right. And what did the Chiefs do?
They were like, hey, Alex Smith is pretty good, but
we want to be great, and they swung for the
fences and they hit a grand slam with Patrick Mahomes
(01:19:59):
and I really eyes that quarterbacks like, yeah, that's right
with Alex Smith. Also, just like Smith is a gateway drug,
you can't get comfortable with, Hey, we're all right, you
know we're not horrible at quarterback. No, no no, no, you
have to have a top ten guy. You should be
(01:20:21):
searching for that. And so for the Browns, I understand
why you'd be tempting and a little bit scary to say,
even though Baker serviceable, let's move on and let's try
to go in a different direction and get somebody who's better.
I understand how that can be scary based on your
quarterback past being so brutal, but that's exactly what you
have to do. Facts. Look at that division. You've got
(01:20:47):
Lamar and Joe Burrow. They're gonna be around for a
long time. Probably Aaron Rodgers next year in Pittsburgh maybe,
who knows. So you're at the tail end of this thing. Yeah,
he's just not someone I would be willing to commit
long term to at that price tag. No, he's a
serviceable guy. Yeah, yeah, that's you can't. You can't pay
(01:21:14):
top money for serviceable. That's gonna end up screwing your
franchise just as much as not having a quarterback like
he he needs like the running game, he needs, the defense,
he needs all of these things, similar to what that
Prescott needs. Yeah, right, Like, although Deck is a what
(01:21:40):
could be or can be a prolific throw of the football,
how much added value does that really give you, you know,
as a cowboy, because we've seen them lose with him
through four plush yards. That's right, I think that, and
I think you would agree Doc is better than Baker. Yes, yes, yes,
I'm not saying that day, right, So Baker needs even more.
(01:22:02):
So how is that gonna work out for you if
you're paying him big money? Yeah, it's not gonna work
at all. So yeah, you play this thing on out
this year and better opportunity presents itself, take it get
to that's a necessary body. That is cheap shot, all right?
Coming up next a potential nightmare scenario. Oh what's going
(01:22:29):
on everybody? Hope you're enjoying your Saturday evening. What a
day of ball it has been. Of course, the highlight
performance of the day the Michigan Wolverines, who could be
pole vaulting all the way to number two when the
playoff rankings come out. They throttle Ohio State forty two
to twenty seven as they rushed for two hundred nineties
(01:22:52):
seven yards. That was just a complete beat down and
leading the charge. I mean you look at their running
back Hassan Haskins, five rushing touchdowns, ties of school record.
He was unbelievable. But a manly win by Michigan, not
(01:23:13):
just breaking that seven game losing streak to Ohio State,
but doing it by just playing bullyball. That's why there
was a rave for about five hours after the game
on the field, they let that out. That was eight
years of frustration went out on the field afterwards, they
live it all out there too. It was a great scene.
It was a great scene. It was a great moment
(01:23:34):
for college football, especially coming off the year we had
last year. I mean Ohio. They played five games last year, yeah,
and one of them wasn't against Michigan, right, Michigan played
six games two and four, and so coming off of
that year and to have that type of game with
that much on the line was from this rivalry was
(01:23:58):
It was amazing. This is everything you would want to
ask for as a college football fan. Wake up early
in the morning, nine am Eastern, I mean Pacific, mhm,
early start time for you guys, You and the wife
getting up earlier. And we wanted to see this. We
were looking forward to it, and it did not disappoint.
(01:24:22):
Two of our closest friends went to law school in Michigan.
So there go blue all day long. Oh yeah, And
I told him I'm rocking with you. Except for December four.
There's no more gold blue because they play San Diego
State in hoop That's where it go blue changes sts you.
(01:24:42):
But you know, it was. It was good football though, yeah,
And it was one of those where Michigan was so dominant.
They kept on flashing Jim Harbaugh's record and however you
want to break it down, he was He's been three
and four against Michigan State. Of course, he was oh
win five against Ohio State and against the top ten
(01:25:04):
he was two in thirteen. And all these numbers are
flashing on the screen at different stages throughout the game,
and Michigan was so dominant. It's almost like I'm looking
at those numbers like how could that be? Like how
could they have gotten pushed around so much in the
past and look this dominant today? But that's exactly what
what happened. This is you know, he took a salary
(01:25:28):
reduction this year. Um, and I was telling my wife,
if they're going to win the conference championship next week
and get into the playoffs, he just got himself five
more years. He just got he just got he just
added five more years and win the national championship. I
(01:25:51):
mean he's a lifer after that. Kind of interesting too,
where Michigan's defensive coordinator came from the Baltimore Race, from
the Ravens, which of course his brother. Look at those
hard Boss, So it's you know this, this was a huge,
(01:26:13):
a huge win for Hardball and his career at Michigan.
It legitimizes his kiss, it does everything else is forgetting,
it's forgotten. It's been nothing but disappointment after disappointment before today.
Because when it all shakes out, if Michigan is in
the college football playoffs and let's just say Alabama's not
(01:26:34):
there or whatever and there and like this thing starts
to look different, It's like, oh, snap, Michigan has an
opportunity to win the national championship. Jim Harball wins the
national championship. Oh buddy, oh buddy, that's the next level
of everything else is forgotten. Those five losses to Ohio State,
(01:26:58):
that uh it with three and four record against Michigan State,
that all of that is gone, that's all in the past,
washed away. So you know, this is a lot is
on the line, not just for him, for these kids.
I mean, Michigan could find themselves playing for a national
(01:27:22):
title and this thing could change quickly, right Like, they
could find themselves in the playoff and they could get
rolled by Georgia touchdowns and Hardball could be laughed at again.
But for right now, smacking around Ohio State the way
they did. This is why he was brought there in
the first place. This is what they had in mind,
(01:27:43):
and he finally delivered. And you got to take your
hat off to the guy. At least for today. That
was a great, great win for Harbor in Michigan. It
was a much needed win for hardball in Michigan. And
just so you know, people really understand the magnitude of this.
(01:28:06):
Michigan goes on to win a Big ten championship, gets
into the playoffs, even if they get boat raced by
by somebody, it doesn't matter. They were there to play
for the national championship. Now, if they win the national championship,
now it's like you like, even if they get rolled,
(01:28:27):
they still took a big step forward. Yes, yes, this
is oh okay, now we see where you're going, you
know what I mean? And you know they just have
to get through Iowa, Ohio. Sam was just he was
skipping and dancing through the halls of of Fox Sports
(01:28:51):
Studio radio station and just I mean he was everything. Yeah,
and it would be interesting to see the playoff rankings
Bama survived against Auburn should have lost that game with
about a minute ago, and Auburn running back should have
stayed in bounds. He ran out of bounds. The clock
didn't keep running. That's forty seconds and Bryce Young had
(01:29:15):
enough time. Took Bama nineties seven yards for the game
tying touchdown. Game goes into overtime, went actually into four overtimes,
and Bama comes out with the W and they faced
Georgia for the SEC next week. Bama is still alive
for not only winning the SEC, but getting to the
playoff with only one loss. Right now, daring the thick
(01:29:38):
of it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Hey, when you
get to this part of it, they just gotta get ws.
I'll tell you what that game next week, Man, you
got the dogs big huh. Yeah. Georgia. I mean I
don't I don't know how many people have seen Georgia play,
but they are they are aggressive. Yeah, And I'm saying
(01:30:04):
that Alabama had trouble because they got first one draft
picks at offensive line too, and they could not general answer.
Yeah for Auburn in that front seven zero it looks
the way like the way Alabama played against Auburn today.
Next week, against Georgia, it's all about Bryce Young. I
(01:30:25):
can't imagine the running game is gonna do much of
anything against Georgia. It's gotta be Bryce Young out playing
stats in Bennett significantly for Bama to have a legit
shot in that game. It's hard. It's hard to win
games when you can't count on your running game at all. Yeah, yeah,
it is, you know, you know, take it from Michigan.
(01:30:49):
Michigan had a plan. They were going to run the
ball and pose their will, and they did. They executed
the plan flawlessly. Now it's up to Alabama to see
if they can I don't know, conj or something up.
They struggle with Arkansas, they struggle with Florida, they struggle
with Auburn. George is better than all those teams. Yeah,
(01:31:12):
now I'm seeing a nightmare scenario potentially unfold here. Brian,
noany from salam with you here on Fox Sports Radio.
Are big three picks against the NFL spreads coming up
here in about ten minutes, So you know me, big man,
I am a Notre Dame honk born and raised in
South Bend, so I ride hard for the Irish. I
(01:31:32):
am seeing and I hate to say this out loud,
a nightmare scenario. Hopefully it doesn't unfold this way. But
follow me on this one. If you're looking for Notre
Dame to get into the playoff, so you've got a
couple of things that would need to happen. Maybe Alabama
gets blown out by Georgia. Obama's out of the mix.
(01:31:52):
That opens up a spot. Right, Let's say Michigan wins
the Big Ten championship. Since an Addie wins their conference championship,
there the act champions right, so you only have one
spot that opens up in front of you. If the
winner of this Oklahoma Oklahoma State game today, if they
(01:32:15):
go on to win the Big Twelve championship next week,
is gonna be the outside looking in. Excuse me. Notre
Dame is gonna get leap frogged and they're still gonna
be number five. And you know why because they lost
so the Bearcats. It's not even that they don't have
a conference championship. That too. Yeah, that losing to a
(01:32:38):
top four team that doesn't kill you. But not having
a conference championship is what it's killing them. It could
it could kill them, well if it comes down to that. Yeah,
if they would have just stayed in the a SEC
one more year, just one more year, then we wouldn't
(01:33:04):
be having this conversation, right. We talked about that last year.
I was like, they should they should stay, they should stay.
It could work out that way, But it could work
the other way too, where let's say Cincinnati, they might
lose their conference championship and then all of a sudden,
Notre Dame is like, hey, it works for us. We
didn't have to play a conference title game and risk
(01:33:26):
losing that game. What if let's just say Oklahoma State
wins tonight. I say that just because they're leading right now.
Oklahoma State goes on next week and they lose to Baylor.
All of a sudden, you're looking at Notre Dame not
playing a conference championship game a lot differently, right, So
it can work against them, as you're pointing out, I'm
just saying it can work for them. Also. It just
(01:33:48):
depends on what happens around you. The commissioner for the
American Uh, the act, the act is on the phone,
The call is in huh with Houston and the whole staff.
Houston Cougars, Hello, Uh, you know what time it is?
(01:34:09):
This is not happening. Just so you guys know, Bearcats
win Cary again, we're gonna find we're gonna dig into
some some sanctions, I mean everything, Like, that's what you
don't want to do. If you're the act, that's what
you you don't want to eliminate the only chance you
(01:34:31):
have to maybe ever prior to the UH the expansion,
to play for a national championship. But I hear what
you're saying. I think that interesting. And not only lose Houston,
but you let them vote ratio Yeah, no doubt, what's
no leap frogging nothing. Yeah, but it's an interesting conversation
(01:34:54):
With Notre Dame. I think what you're really getting at
is this. They say it in boxing all the time,
don't leave in the hands of the judges. And with
Notre Dame not playing a conference championship game because they're
not in a conference. If they lose a game, they
need help, and you would rather be able to control
where you end up. That's what you're saying. You would
(01:35:16):
rather have it in your hands. But if we go
out and win this game, we're in no questions asked.
And that's not where Notre Dame is right, But they
are on their way to covering our points plated spread.
They are so things probably gonna be even Stephen at
the end of this, because this is crazy. I don't
(01:35:37):
even know what made me do that. Let me give
you a nightmare stat They flash this during the game.
Stanford has allowed two hundred and forty one rushing yards
per game. That's one in FBS to forty one per
(01:35:57):
game on the ground. That's what they give up. What
MHM like, how Stanford used to be good not that
long ago? Is David Shawn his way out? Like, you
can't be giving up to forty one a game on
the ground like that? That's rough. Okay, So here's the
(01:36:18):
game plan, big man. We need one We need two
of three things to happen, okay, or two of these
various things to happen. Bama gets blown out by Georgia
so they're gone. Or Michigan loses to Iowa in the
Big Ten championship game, or Cincinnati loses the Act or
whoever wins the Oklahoma Oklahoma State game tonight that team
(01:36:41):
goes on to lose next week in the Big Big
twelve championship game. We just need two of those what
four things to happen and break Irish in the playoff.
Goodbye you. I mean you need those things to happen. Yeah,
I don't know if that will happen, all of those things,
just to just to I mean, you could see Bama
(01:37:04):
getting rolled absolutely that one. I see you see that.
So then if that happens, we only need one thing.
Michigan loses, Cincinnati loses, or the winner one thing or
or that. Every loss is a thing, you know that, right,
We don't group the things together. So you need Alabama
(01:37:29):
to lose, You need Cincinnati to lose, You need Michigan
to lose, and either Ohio State or I mean Oklahoma
State or Oklahoma to lose. Yeah, next week, just two
of those four things. If two of those things happen,
the Irish are in yep. Okay, last thing, real fast.
(01:37:49):
You see Bama losing to Georgia decisively, which is the
most likely thing to happen of these three scenarios. Michigan loses,
See loses, the winner of Bedlam loses the Big twelve
championship game. Um, Michigan, is that because Iowa Sam is
(01:38:15):
doing the running Man in front of you right now? No, No,
it's because coming off a win like they just had. Yeah,
it's yeah, hey brother, that euphoric feeling, yeah, is is
crazy and coming back from the dead right in Iowa.
They've got new life now. And so now you've got
(01:38:36):
two teams Iowa surging. Michigan just got over a huge hurdle,
the biggest and that creates a situation next Saturday that
may not be conducive from Michigan. Yeah. The one thing
I like in Michigan's favor is physicality travels. You know,
(01:39:00):
I feel so much more confident about michigan chances next
week because if their quarterback through for it takes is
a couple of passes already quarterback already through interception today,
light today. But all it takes is a couple of
tip paths like all of that has. It was a
huge momentum swings in that Michigan Ohio State game. You
(01:39:21):
know what, I've noticed something. You're stalling here because you
don't want to make NFL picks. Yes, we got our
picks against the spread. Coming up next, can the big
Man and the losing streak. I'm Brian no Easy from Salam.
This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian no Easy from Salam.
(01:39:45):
Here on Fox Sports Radio. Real credit card questions require
real people, someone who understands your issues and works to
resolve them with you. That's why I Discover offers helpful
US based representatives available seven Discover exceptionally common sense. All right,
big man, it is the time that listen to the
(01:40:09):
dread in your voice, right, you know the Big Three.
So we make three NFL picks against the spread each week.
We keep track, we keep copious notes, and at the end,
whoever has more wins wins one thousand American dollars and
one candy bar of their choosing. So as I gaze
(01:40:31):
at the standings right now, I'm catching up. Only two
games back, big man, and I got ripped off on
Sunday night as I had Chargers. Oh man, I had
the Chargers against Pittsburgh, and they looked great. They're up
by fourteen and as curve goofy turnover, wacky turnover, and
I'm like, what what just happened? Oh? That was rough?
(01:40:55):
That saved your week? Man? Oh man? All right, well
you are on the season, still on the plus side.
Eighteen and fifteen. I am win game under five hundred
sixteen and seventeen. Oh gosh, I hate saying that out loud. Sorry,
you know what, I just got a second win. I'm
ready for this. Let's just gotta flush flush. The last
(01:41:17):
couple of weeks, New Week right here, New Week? All right,
you still have the lead, so you start off. No. Um,
it's so difficult to pick these games because you say, Okay,
you know teams you can count on. M HM. Like
(01:41:37):
I'm looking at this Tampa Bay Indie game and I'm like, yeah,
I don't know, I don't know. That doesn't make you know.
You look at the Atlanta Jacksonville game, It's like, I
don't know, mm hm. New Jersey Houston, It's like, who
knows Pitts Cincinnati? How about Houston being favored against the Jets.
(01:42:00):
That's the crazy part. Man. Seattle, Washington, Seattle is favored
by a point. Yeah, it's like it at what Russell
Wilson is the quarterback? Yeah, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter.
They're three and seven. This is difficult, But I'm going
(01:42:23):
to go with Carolina. Oh on the road, okay, in Miami,
Carolina minus minus at Miami at Miami, Okay, why are
you feeling the Panthers in this one? Um? I think
cam played well enough for them to win last week.
(01:42:45):
They let me down one of my disappointing picks last week.
But I do like Carolina's defense and Christian McCaffrey against Miami. Okay,
all right, might work out. Okay, I am considering head
to head. Don't don't just do it. I just I
(01:43:06):
can save that from my last picks, so you don't
steal one of my other picks. You know what I mean?
Strategy here, Um, so I am going to go in
a different direction here. I am going to look at
I don't want to go against my formula, because my
formula is be comfortable with being uncomfortable, you know, because
(01:43:29):
a lot of times the pick that you don't want
to make ends up being the right pick. Every now
and then. I will go against that formula because the
Tennessee Titans were just atrocious last week. Tannehill through four interceptions,
They're turning the ball over left and right, and they
lost to the Houston Texans. You know, although they gained
(01:43:51):
over four hundred yards, it's against the Texans, so it
doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. The uncomfortable
pick is to go at the Titans plus seven against
the Atriots, who have been steady, they play sound football,
they played great defense. So I am not going to
take my own formula into account. I am going to
(01:44:12):
lay the seven points. The Patriots have played great defense,
They've only allowed ten points per game during their five
game winning streak, and Mac Jones and the running game,
it's just been consistent. So at home, I'm gonna roll
with the Patriots. To get to six straight wins in
a row, I'll lay the seven with the Pats. Mm hmm.
(01:44:34):
That's a tough one. Tough right. I think either direction
is uncomfortable either way. But there is a there, there's
a there's a caveat that you're not you know, you're
not paying attention to. What's that? What's that caveat? Um?
(01:44:59):
It's how well Mike Vrabel does against That's right, he
knows him really well. Right, But but what does he
have offensively? What does he have to go against Belichick?
With A J. Brown's out, Derrick Henry's out, you have
(01:45:21):
no play action passing game, Tannehill's serviceable. As you said,
what do you have? Who are your dogs? I get it, Yeah,
I look, I understand that, but yeah, whatever sounds like
maybe head to head. I don't know, what are you
thinking here? Sounds do you know? I mean, Mike has
(01:45:50):
had success against his uh, you know, his former car.
I mean, if you want to mull it over, there's
another guy who's had a heck of a lot of success.
I think I would think about this one. Yeah, who's
this guy you talk about? You speak of? Well, there's
a man that has information by the truckload and he
(01:46:14):
delivers it in smooth as silk fashion. That's right. That
is a friend of America. Mr Steve de Seger, the
sixth rank Irish of Notre Dame are still shutting out
their opponent at Stanford twenty four nothing. As we approach
a minute to go in the first half. Stanford had
just scored a touchdown, I was called back by a
(01:46:34):
penalty and Stanford's about to punt the ball away from midfield.
This is a Stanford team that has lost six in
a row since the overtime win against Oregon, and yes,
Oregon did win today thirty nine against Oregon State. Utah
will be the Oregon Ducks opponent in the PAC twelve
title game Friday Ian Las Vegas. Among other games in progress,
(01:46:54):
seventeen rank pit leads seven at Syracuse early third quarter,
three touchdown passes for Kenny Pickett. He breaks Dan Marinos
school record, now thirty nine t d passes this season.
Clems hims up twenty to nothing at rival South Carolina.
Approaching mid third quarter at l s U, it's twenty
to ten, Tigers ahead of fifteenth ranked Texas and AM.
(01:47:15):
Late in the third halftime, Oklahoma has tied it up
at Oklahoma State twenty four. All that's the top ten battle.
Earlier Georgia and Alabama each one on the road. Now
number one Georgia is twelve and oh nothing was the
final at Georgia Tech. No turnovers for the Bulldogs, no
penalties for the Bulldogs will Georgia Tech had nine drives
(01:47:35):
and only nine first downs today mismatch number three. Alabama
was down ten to three until its final drive of regulation.
They wound up winning in four overtimes at Auburn two
twenty two. The tying touchdown drive late fourth quarter twelve
plays nineties seven yards in a minute, eleven combined seventeen
punts in this game. Alabama fans may not remember that
(01:47:59):
year's from now twenty to the final against an Auburn
team that was without its injured quarterback and kicker at
combined thirteen sacks in that game. Michigan one, and so
did Minnesota. Fifth rank Michigan beat number two Ohio State
seven Hassan Haskins, five touchdown runs a hundred sixty nine yards.
Michigan had lost fifteen of its last sixteen head to
(01:48:21):
head against its rival. Michigan led at halftime fourteen thirteen
today and then just pulled away in fact in the
second half. On their four drives before taking a knee,
Michigan eighteen carries a hundred ninety yards rushing second half
plus four for four passing, so twelve yards per play
in the second half against the Buckeyes. Ohio State had
won twenty six straight conference games. Next Saturday night for
(01:48:45):
the Big Ten title on Fox TV, it's Michigan against Iowa.
The Badgers could have clinched the division title, but instead
fourteenth ranked Wisconsin was a loser at Minnesota. Did you
notice the Minnesota p A system played jump around? As
soon as they play beat Minnesoe, beat at home, beat Wisconsin,
and the fans were flooding the field, they played the
(01:49:06):
theme song for the Wisconsin home games. This game was
tied thirteen all late third quarter. Wisconsin's loss gives that
division title to Iowa, which finishes one game up on
three different teams. Penn State was at Michigan State in
the snow. Pence Day goes four and five in conference.
They lost today thirty to twenty seven eighth rank Baylor
edge Texas Tech twenty four is. Texas Tech missed a
(01:49:28):
fifty three yard field goal attempt on the final play
wide left Wake Forest and winner to go to Saturday
night's a CC title game against pitt next weekend. U
T San Antonio will not finish undefeated. It was eleven
and oh including five closed wins. It lost forty five
twenty three at North Texas. In fact, it was in
the fourth quarter five total fumbles in the rain. North Texas,
(01:49:51):
a team that was one in six a month ago.
Houston won forty seventeen at Yukon and Houston plays at
Kennecta at Cincinnati next Saturday. Now, as far as Connecticut's program,
we mentioned they've got a new head coach coming in now,
Jim Mora. Connecticut went one on eleven this year, did
not play football last year went two and ten and
(01:50:12):
one and eleven the year before that. So yeah, Jim
Moore has got got some work ahead of him. Let's
just leave it at that. The Tennessee Titans place wide
receiver A. J. Brown on injured reserve Joel and Bead returned,
but Philadelphia lost at home in double overtime to Minnesota
one twenty Phillies record ten and ten. Meanwhile, the Phoenix
Suns are apparently going to win again. This would be
(01:50:35):
their sixteenth straight victory. They're leading with under five minutes
to go at Brooklyn one oh six ninety six. Now
despite thirty five points from Kevin Durant final seconds of
the first half, Notre Dame twenty four nothing leaders at
Stanford on Fox TV. Back to you, all right, thank
you very much, Steve on Brian though he is e
from salam Right. Back to the NFL picks against the spread.
(01:50:58):
We each have two to make. I'm take okay at
the Giants minus four and a half, just four, you
only have to lay four bad. See how honest I am?
I mean it would all shook out. So the gambling
gods they smile with my honest ways. You know, I
(01:51:21):
feel like it's gonna be a great week from me,
just based Okay, why do you like the Eagles smash Mouth?
We're talking about Michigan running the ball. That's what Philly
has been doing. He's been doing that last two weeks.
They've been impressive, scoring seventy points in the last two weeks. Um,
I just think with everything that's going on in New York,
I mean, that thing is a train wreck. Not quite
(01:51:42):
sure if s Kawan Barkley is healthy enough. It looked
to me he was very tentative running the ball. Um,
I just don't think he's physically ready, uh, mentally physically
ready to carry the rock like they need him to
a mentally ready to carry the team with so much disarray. Okay,
(01:52:02):
I'm gonna go to Monday night here, always always. I
don't know why I stink at picking primetime games, but
I should have won with the Chargers last week. So
it's something in the air. I don't know what, but
I love this line. Washington has played a lot better.
Their defense has been much much better the last couple
(01:52:24):
of weeks. Think about that long drive they had against
Tampa Bay over ten minutes and they beat the defending
world champs. So I know it's attempting to take Russell
Wilson and the Seahawks, and but that's not the same
Russell Wilson and Seahawks. It just isn't. So I'm gonna
take the point. I'm gonna roll with the home dog,
the Washington football team. Let's go move. That's a that's
(01:52:48):
a that's a gutsy pick. I'll tell you that that's right.
I'm gonna be comfortable with uncomfortable from you, right, And
I'm uncomfortable picking this one given how James Taylor has
been running. But I'm taking Tampa Bay minus three over Indian. Okay,
Tampa Bay minus three on the road against Indians winning time. Uh.
(01:53:10):
If the Bucks want to do something that they know
that they had, they gotta flip this thing over. So
I think they'll be tuned in. You get a healthier
Gronkowski back, and I think I think this is when
they start to try to separate themselves like they did
last year. Yeah. Now, sometimes I'll look at these points
(01:53:30):
spreads and I'll think, uh, man, that's just too many points,
you know, And then every now and then I'll pause
and I'll be like, wait a minute, you have a
better read on this game than I do. You know,
because I'm looking at Minnesota, at the forty Niners. Minnesota
played really well last week. The offense did its thing,
(01:53:50):
justin Jefferson Adam feeling. They beat the Packers. They did
allow a ton of passing yards Rogers through from with
four hundred yards with a broken toe. But I still
think that the Vikings getting three points. I'm like, man,
can the Niners Are they gonna cover that? It seems
like too many points to me. And then I pause
and I say, now, you probably have a better read
(01:54:12):
on it than I do. I look at the Niners
getting Kittle back, Deebo Samuel is just a beast, the
creativity with Kyle Shanahan. I just don't trust that Vikings
defense enough. I'm gonna take San fran to cover the three.
They've been hot lately, and I'm just gonna roll with
the hot team. That's a good pig, that's a good pick.
(01:54:33):
I knew you were just blowing smoke talking about you
were going Actually forgot about that. I did. I I
had the Dolphins written down. I like them getting points
at home, but I don't know that Carolina offense. I
think McCaffrey gets more carries. He only had what ten
(01:54:54):
last week? How do you give Christian McCaffrey ten carries
when you're easing Cam Newton into what's basically a brand
new offense. I have zero idea. Hopefully they rectify that
this week. Yeah they need to, Yes they do. But
the Dolphins they've a lot better. Man, it's rebound week
for me. Okay, call it. What do you think You've
(01:55:15):
got Carolina minus to Philly minus for Tampa minus three,
all favorites on the road. What do you think the
record is after this week? Three? O, three and O. Yes,
you're smelling it. I'm smelling it. Okay. By the way,
I'm going to the Ravens game on Sunday. Are you
look at you? Yeah, I'm gonna be over there. And
(01:55:36):
I thought about taking the Ravens, but man, there's nothing worse.
I was at the Falcons game the other week and
I'm like, I'm gonna take the home team. You know,
I'm gonna be one with the people. They can cover.
They're getting six and a half against the Patriots. They
can keep it tight and it's twenty five to nothing,
and it's just misery, you know, it's horrible being in
(01:55:57):
the stadium as you suffer. That's right, That's right. So
I said, I refused to go to a Laker game.
Uh this year. You know what, we gotta talk for
a minute about the purple and gold here real fast,
and I've got a couple of of stats here, a
(01:56:17):
couple of numbers for you that I wanted to throw
your away that I think are pretty interesting. So we'll
close it down in style. I'm Brian No, he'sy from
salam This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm probably no, he's
from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio. Don Brown, technical producer.
When you hear that DJ airhorn, you know Don Brown
(01:56:39):
is nearby. Love that love the energy. At the end
of the show, Danny g back from his world travels.
He celebrated his one year anniversary here this uh last weekend.
Big Man took a little trip. That's as he said,
it's like five years in Los Angeles one year. It's
(01:57:00):
one year with the Tinderoni. Wow, man, young love man.
I just I remember that. I remember one year for
me that was seventeen years ago. Yeah. Wow, Okay, you
guys are making it. You're getting up early to watch
Ohio State in Michigan at nine am on the West coast.
People always say, you know you've got him, I want
(01:57:20):
to marry my best friend anyway. They don't actually really
know what that means. They just they say it because
everybody says it. That's what you're supposed to do. And
I always say, do you talk to your wife like
are your significant other like they're your best friend? M hm, right,
because there are things you'll tell your best friend you
never tell your spouse. Right, then you're not married you
(01:57:41):
to your best friend, right. And it's just it's it's
that little thing there which makes a huge difference. Because
if you know you can approach your significant other like
you can approach your best friend, you got something that's
gonna go for a long time. You'll be waking up
why sing Ohio State, Michigan understand each other, right and
(01:58:05):
and and if your significant other has that level of
trust in you and and vice versa, you know, whatever
comes up, you guys can talk openly about it. And
that's the key. You know, just dropped some knowledge right there.
So just just want to put that out there, right,
(01:58:26):
you know, I just what just what I do. I'm
a fan of love do you have any life advice
here as we go rapid fire for your Los Angeles Lakers. Yeah,
we gotta make some trades at the trade deadline. I
mean this, this, This is what it is. We gotta
make trades of the trade deadline. It's not working. Frank
(01:58:46):
Vogel is struggling putting the right line up together. Um,
he's struggling and getting people to play the proper way. Right.
You can't be afraid to tell Westbrook. Look here, Bro,
you're not a three point shooter. But it's not even that.
It's the turnovers. And they have been better with turnovers.
But Russell Westbrook is too good of a player for
(01:59:11):
his basketball i Q to diminish as the game goes on.
You have to read the flow of the game because
what happens is that the team will be on a
run and he'll come and take an ill advised shot
for no reason. You know what's funny. It makes me
think of we talk about all of this with quarterbacks,
decision making, decision making. We don't talk about it nearly
(01:59:34):
as much with point guards. But decision making is so vital,
especially so if the guy making decisions down the you know,
towards the end of the game with the ball. I mean,
you turn the ball over, you shoot a shot that
I mean those things. As a coach, I gotta be like, yo,
(01:59:56):
look here, man, that's not what we're doing. And if
you continue to do that, then you won't be a
part of the last five minutes of the game. I'll
dust Rondo off and put him in there. That's right,
that's right. It's just it's tough when you're paying him,
So it doesn't matter at this point. Frank Vogel is
about to be fired, So I'm like, I don't care
(02:00:19):
how much I'm paying you. We gotta do what's best
for the team. We have to do what's best for
the team. Yeah, right. And the fact that they still
haven't figured that out yet. I mean they lost to
the Kings and triple overtime. The Kings don't even have
a coach, is it like a player coach right now? Well,
(02:00:41):
after they just fired Luke Walton, And what we're doing
is as Buddy Healed, the interim head coach, the interim
player coach to me, I'm like, yo, bro, like, what
what are y'all doing? Like what part of the game
is this where all this time. We're gonna just gonna
take some time for no. No, no, no, no, no no.
That's a that's an ext use. Hey. By the way,
(02:01:01):
I gotta get your thoughts on the game of the
week in the NFL, the Rams at the Packers. How
about the Packers a home dog? There plus two points
in this one. We didn't have this in either of
our picks. If I had to make a pick, I
would go at the Rams. I just trust their defense
right now. The Packers are banged up to play in
(02:01:22):
it is tough? Are you going with Green Bay? I mean,
that's not part of my picks. I don't pick outside
of our three. I'm sorry for I don't do it
for fun. This is four thousand American dollars in a
candy bar, Okay. I just trust the Rams defense where
they don't have as many injuries. You get the Aaron Donald,
Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey two headed monster. I think Matthew
(02:01:45):
Stafford has a much better game. Last time we saw him,
he was thinking it up against San fran I'm talking
to myself, Can I make a switch you now? I'm
not gonna make a switch. I like the Rams defense
gave a last week. Well, I mean there was a
pick six that understand. But to Jimmy Garoppolo, yeah, I mean,
(02:02:06):
well what I mean, Yeah, it's a little misleading because
there was a pick six that went right fifty six
yards in rushing. Yeah, but Green Bay doesn't run it
as well as the Niners do. Do you think they
do with I know where they are right now, where
both teams are right now. I think with Dylan um
(02:02:31):
and with Uh, with Aaron, I think they do. I don't.
We don't know if Aaron what's his what's his last name?
And it comes back, if he's coming back or not.
You know, by the way, your pro turkey and I
thought of you the Trailblazers. They put this out on Twitter.
Is turkey the worst part of the Thanksgiving meal? Listen
(02:02:53):
to what Nassir Little had to say about turkey. It's
not it for Thanksgiving. I think it doesn't match the
other food. It's energy. You could save that for something
for another time, but I just don't think it has
earned a spot. And then Thanksgiving actually on the food.
But just keep grinding turkey. You'll get there one day.
He doesn't know anything. This is a child man. If
(02:03:17):
you dislike turkey. You haven't had it prepared correctly. Period.
That's the only way it could go
