Dan Beyer & Mike Harmon talk World Cup and how much more embarrassing USMNT’s failure to qualify for the tournament is after Panama was beaten down by England 6-1 on Sunday. The guys discuss the reported “tension” between Chris Paul and the Houston Rockets and both agree that new ownership is an out the organization were hoping for in order to avoid paying CP3 a max contract. Dan and Mike also discuss the happenings of Thursday night’s NBA draft and a potential NBA player interested in team ownership. Finally, Ron Clements, co-founder of Home Run on Wheels, stops by to talk about his experience trekking America from one MLB ballpark to another raising awareness for the needs of children. Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. I know it's only halftime.
I know it's only halftime, Mike. It's going out of
their microphones. Why don't we don't where am I levels?
I'm just gonna yell louder. I keep yelling louder across
the country. You'll hear me. It's only it's only halftime.

(00:24):
But yeah, stop the fight. England up on Panama. As
you heard Isaac lowan Kron five nil if you will,
And as I was driving in to do the show,
the match was underway and when I walked through the
door it was four nil, and you were watching the match,
Mike and checking it out. And in that minute of

(00:48):
just talking to you and seeing what was going on
on on Fox Sports one, I said to myself, jeez,
the United States couldn't beat this. And then I really
lies everyone else was thinking the same thing. Now, the
United States had really no troubles with Panama in qualification.

(01:09):
They ended up routing one of the matches and tying another.
But remember when we talk about the United States missing
out on the World Cup, it wasn't like they I
guess barely missed, although it was by by a point.
They were fifth of of six teams they were they
were five of six. They couldn't even get into the
playoff two possibly just like uh uh with Panama being

(01:34):
the final qualifiers. What I'm trying to say, But the
point is is they Honduras was the team that ended
up playing Australian The qualifier blanked for a second there.
But the point being is is when we sit there
and we want to say, man, I wish the United
States was in the World Cup. I wish the U
s could have done something. They the colossal miss is
magnified by Panama being drilled by England because there was

(01:55):
no way the Americans would be down five nothing at halftime.
Just an amazing convergence of just domination. Is really you
watch these World Cup matches and you can tell when
there's a mismatch fairly fairly early, but normally it isn't
reflected in the goal scoring. Here, it's just an absolute burial.

(02:17):
And you wonder what kind of lineup shows up in
the second half of They just gonna pick eleven guys
that are sitting in they stands together. Hey see, if
you can make it hold up, they could play eleven
on two like England could just make their their three
substitutions and then end up putting two guys out on
the pitch. It'd probably still win this match. But this
just comes to the point of, you know, and the

(02:39):
the World Cup is gonna be expanding to forty eight countries,
which is that's not a good thing. No. If if
you're gonna get this, if this is the back end
of your draw, on the back end of of your
group play, why why do it. It's like when every
time we talk about expanding the n C Double A tournament.
I get it, there's more cash at play. Let's just

(02:59):
call it what it is, and let's not be cute
about opportunity in the global marketplace and and whatever else.
In terms of soccer fandom. No, it's purely a cash
grab because you'll have more people in the seats, more
opportunity to sell beer, and hopefully they'll have better supply
chain management than they have in Russia with the shortages
that we had. But expanding the field, how does that

(03:21):
help anything in terms of mass It's it's you're right,
when you look at college basketball, it's a it's a
perfect draw. Major League baseball, Major League Baseball, in a way,
I don't want to say got lucky, but I think
many have come around on the wild card for the
simple fact of you are also rewarding a division winner.

(03:42):
I know there are some that don't like it coming
down to one game, but I believe more and more
people are coming to accept that that playoff. And this
year there could be a little bit more controversy with
how good the two teams in the AL East and
the AL West. But at least you go back to
the point of, hey, win your division well. But also
just for baseball's sake, you have a September that now

(04:02):
matters in a lot of cities were before whether it's
a one because look, you win one game, you you
have a have it set up to where your ace
pitches and and maybe that's not the case. Maybe you're
just struggling to get there, and we see that as well.
But you at least have a puncher's chance here. Not
a puncher's chance you're gonna go and get buried. And
it's great to represent, but legitimately with the United States,

(04:27):
have been able to compete with any of the better
teams here. No, no, may maybe again once one out
of ten times they they have the the shot and
everything plays and suddenly Policic is five years older and
everything plays out right because now you're shooting at Will
be twenty seven years old. All of that is fine
and good, but you know, all the columns being written,

(04:50):
especially coming off the land and Donovan story to start
the week right taking money from Wells far ago, all
his ex teammates angry at him. We had Eric wenald
On who did not let up, was after landing Donovan
from pillar to post and after ten minutes I was
left shaking my head like I've done three rounds with Tyson.
So it was it was a very interesting kind of process.

(05:13):
But because of that, people are looking for different rooting interests,
but lamenting and all the word columns, all the tweets
of really, United States, we we should be in this tournament,
but we didn't. We couldn't beat who we had to beat.
That's the point of It's so disappointing of the opportunities
that they missed out. And it wasn't just the last

(05:34):
game against Trinidad where they ended up falling and losing,
and even a draw would have would have helped them
in that situation. It's just the fact of that you
see what Panama was bringing to the table and trying
to be respectful for the country's first ever appearance. But
at least that the United States was in, they likely

(05:54):
would have been in a group where you think they
would have beaten one country, they maybe would have been
close to even with another, and then maybe would have
been outmatched by another. If you don't get into the
group of death. That's where, like I always felt, the
United States in the World Cup would be like, Okay,
this is the match you need to win. This is
the match where you at least have to come out
with a draw, and this is the match that you

(06:14):
can't get killed in. Panama is just being drilled at
this World Cup, and it just shows you that, remember
it wasn't that Panama gun in over the United States
because Honduras was ended up sandwiched in there and they
ended up losing to Australia, who got it. So the
the the fact is is how disappointing it must be
to be an American soccer fan to see this outcome.

(06:36):
And then to your point about the World Cup, this
is a perfect example of why you don't need to
expand an event that already is is is magical as
it is. Just to include more countries, We're gonna get
more of this when it goes to forty eight. I
think of with the United States, how long you have
to qualify, how many opportunities there are taking hat you

(06:57):
have the coaching change, the ouster of Jurgen Klinsman, and
all the unrest that's settled out of that, all the
questions again about the developmental process of US soccer and
how fractured it is at different levels, and trying to
figure out what the best path of you know, succession,
the path of of consolidating to where you have a

(07:21):
unified product, and of course the the age old question
of how do you convince your your athletes, your better
athletes at times too, to come on board? Right, And
you had the comments from Donovan in terms of where
people were from and all of those things that became
a really a lightning rod. But in terms of trying
to get your best athletes off the football field, and

(07:43):
maybe that's where we're at our tipping point. With all
the CTE discoveries and all of those questions that are circulating.
You've got a number of hockey players that are starting
to raise their hand and say what about us, because
the NHL has turned to blind eye all of that.
Maybe some of those athletes start finding their way into
soccer as we go forward, and maybe it changes things

(08:03):
a little bit in that regard, But in the short
term you're still left with all those questions of how
do you get yourself to where you're competing, not but
being able to compete. I'll just even say this, just
don't know the u s stink. You know however you want,
just don't stink and qualifying and you ended up playing
in a World Cup. All right, He's my carbon I'm

(08:25):
Dan buy our company live for the Geico Fox Sports
Radio studios. Fifteen minutes can save you a fifteen or
more on car insurance physical I could account for a
free ray quote. Let's serve up some hottakes and sausage
on this Sunday morning. Ryan Dennis is our executive producer,
giving us a topic for Mike and I to discuss,
and then he gets to pick a winner and we'll
add up the points at the end of the show.
Sam Kinsley is our technical producer. Good morning guys, Good

(08:47):
morning fellas. Uh, this night has flown by for me.
I kind of feel like Panama, I blink and it's
five nothing, five hours. Maybe you've been through the ringer
that could be as well, because I'm sure Panama feels
like that. Forty five minutes looks a good two days,
all right, good yeah, Like like Sam said, good morning, guys,

(09:09):
it's it's been flying by so far. And you know,
it's summertime and sometimes we can overreact about the way
things happen in sports. So basically, but you know that's
what we like. That's not limited just summer kidding me,
we we gotta figure out something. Like I said, sometimes
we can have our heels dug in on a particular guy.
When it comes to, you know, the NBA Draft. I'm

(09:31):
sure we'll get into a little more. But now that
the animated drafts over, who do you guys like, who's
the guy that's going to be the steel of the draft?
Who's going to be the next NBA star? Who who's
the guy that you're putting your name to. We'll start
with Mike on this one, alright, I'm gonna go all
the way down it just because they steal people time
and time again, the Golden State Warriors when they grab

(09:52):
Jacob Evans a guy who can score from the outside,
give them that second unit burst that they were missing it. Yes,
I know that's hard to say when you've swept your
way to an NBA title, But what I really would
have hoped is that it wasn't a draft pick and
they just spent the three point five million like they
did with the Bowls a year ago, like they did
two years ago, and just kept flaunting their cash and

(10:13):
their ability to do so. Instead, it's the actual draft choice.
Evans was a guy out of Cincinnati that was expected
to go much earlier, some projections, maybe that the Lakers
would be picking him up as a scoring option along
the way. But when you look at what the Warriors are,
they're facing some questions to you know, complacency and and
some of these guys are starting to get a little longer.

(10:35):
They'll be retooling that bench and maybe trying to get
Durant some more rest, getting Curries some more rest, so
that during the regular season all those things where we're
whining and complaining about the eighty two games and getting
to the All Star Break like they did a year ago.
That gives a guy like Evans an opportunity to come
in and play In other words, a fantasy basketball dynasty

(10:56):
pick in the offing Mike should win. Just pulling Jacob
Evans out right out of the gates like that was.
That's an amazing poll. I like the point guards in
this draft, and I like how the point guards are
becoming so so important, not that they weren't before, but
such a mean a main piece of NBA success. So

(11:19):
I like Colin Sexton in Cleveland, and I really like
Aaron Holiday in Indiana. I think that the Pacers were
a team that we obviously saw knocking on the door
of being a top four squad in the Eastern Conference.
With Lebron's future, who knows, you have an opportunity to
maybe break into that top four, top three or top two,
considering how well things went with the Paul George trade.

(11:41):
So if I had to pick one over the other,
I would take Aaron Holiday selection by the Indiana Pacers,
just because Holiday seem to do it all for U. C.
L A goes into a spot where I'm not sure
there's as much pressure of being a top point guard pick,
maybe even less pressure than what Colin Sexton has to
deal with in Cleveland, especially if Lebron isn't back, So
give me Aaron Holiday of being the main top piece

(12:03):
in this teen draft. Okay, well, I have two things.
You went to the USC guy just gonna say just
because he's from u c. L A. There's already a
knock there. But because I think we made sports talk
radio history and opened a segment with Jacob Evans out
of Cincinnati, I think I gotta go with Mike here

(12:25):
on this one. I like the Aaron Holiday because he
was the other guy that was on the tip of
my tongue before with the opportunity when we watched him
play a lot here because we're located in Greater Los Angeles,
uh so we we were able to watch Holiday play
quite a bit and carry that team on his back
for good chunks of time. And it's Oladipo's team, so

(12:45):
it's not like there's gonna be any pressure on him
come in and play. And you don't have the the Sexton,
I mean, the targets on him right of lebron Lee.
What do you got him and Kevin Love. I don't
know that there's some questions when you when and I
think we're looking a little deeper in the draft instead
of a DeAndre eight now or maybe you know Marvin

(13:05):
Bagley if if you if you like his game at
the top of the draft, I will say this, and
looking at the mock drafts, and I looked at Lottie
Walker or the San Antonio Spurs as well as is
maybe a good value in a good situation, depending on
what happened, depending on what happens with Kawhi Leonard. But
I I swear every single mock draft I read over
the last month had Aaron Holliday in a bunch of

(13:28):
different spots, not one. Every one of them said this
is gonna be a great pick. He's gonna be able to,
you know, come in right away and do this and
right there. And we're not just talking about mocking him
to the Pacers or mocking him to the box or
mocking him, you know, to a to a different team.
It was you know, four or five teams, and Aaron
Holiday seemed to fit in all of those. And he

(13:48):
was just a prospect that everybody seemed to love and
should be in a pretty good situation with the Pacers,
the player, not the fifth The other guy that I
was excited about until he overslept was Robert Williams again
when the rich yet richer and guys fall because of
some questions of their attitude and and and all of that,
and then Williams goes and oversleeps his media availability. That

(14:11):
kind of lessen my argument for trying to prop him
up and the Celtics trying to blame it on time zones.
That's gonna smith. If that's gonna be your excuse, you've
got issues. He's Mike Carmen, I'm Dan Bio. This is
Fox Sports Sunday. Reach us on Twitter. I'm at Dan
Buyer on Fox Mike, they can get you down more

(14:33):

you got up early thinking you'd watch England and Panama
and then you hit the snooze button afterwards you were
gonna listen to us while watching it on FS one,

(15:15):
and then you said, wait a minute, this is not
good for anybody. Uh it's six Oh, they're clearing the
six nil sorry six nail, and they're clearing the benches.
At this point, Kane has taking a nice seat, Uh,
having himself some water, some vodka, whatever might be in
that bottle. Uh. Fox Sports Sunday brought to you by
Geico Great News. There's a quick way you could say, buddy,
you can switch to geicoto dot com in fifteen minutes,

(15:36):
you can say or more on car insurance. I will
say this, Dan, there had been at least two shoving
incidents by Panama, so I'm really hoping for fireworks in
this final lot. It's the only resistance Panama has shown today.
That's the only thing that we've gotten from Panama in
this match. Against England, literally pushing English players away from

(15:56):
the ball, just get away from air. I want to
control this one for a while. Now that the NBA
Draft is in the rear view mirror, we can look
ahead to NBA free agency and now that has become
the thing in the association. Now there are trades that
won't become official until July six. Then there will be
signings that won't become official until July six. But we'll

(16:18):
find out this week on whether Lebron James will opt
into his contract or not. DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers
has a similar decision to make, as does Paul George
of the Oklahoma City Thunder, But I think we know
how that's gonna end up going anyway. Player options are
being decided. Chris Paul doesn't have a player option. He
is an unrestricted free agent. And Friday on the Herd

(16:41):
with Colin Cowherd here on Fox Sports Radio, our Fox
Sports NBA insider Chris Bruce Sard was on talking about
Paul's situation with the Rockets and how things may not
be well, let's just say perfect, between the two sides.
What I'm hearing is that there's tension now between Houston
and Chris Paul not irreparable tension, but there's some tension

(17:03):
because there was obviously a handshake wink wink. However you
want to describe it, deal or agreement between Chris and
Houston when he left four years a hundred seventy five
million dollars on the table with the Clippers, you don't
leave that type of money on the table unless they're like, look,
we're gonna take care of you. Don't worry, blah blah blah.

(17:23):
Now the GM Darryl Moray doesn't have to go to
christ and say I'm breaking our promise. He can say, Chris,
you know I want to take care of you, but
we got new owner. The new owner doesn't see it
that way. When they made the other agreement, it's under
the old ownership. So it gives you an out. That
is an out that I believe the Houston Rockets needs

(17:46):
so much Mike in the in the spot in the
point of their season that they had built up to
for the previous eleven months. Chris Paul was not there
for the Houston Rockets when they needed him. And I
know that when you get so close you think of
Chris Paul was healthy, we end up winning Game six,

(18:07):
or we end up winning Game seven and we're onto
the NBA Finals and we accomplish our goal. It is
just so difficult for me if I'm the Houston Rockets
to want to pay Chris Paul that forty seven million
dollars four or five years from now, considering what we
just saw last year. Like I understand, and I think

(18:29):
that the Rockets and and Darryl Morey and saying well,
the ownership changes a different thing is a perfect cover.
But it gets the Rockets out of a deal that
I just don't think it's going to pay off for them.
I I just I don't think it's the case. And
I think as as the contract goes in the USA
Today put out a report to Chris's point, saying that

(18:50):
their sources say that there isn't friction. But what I
think that what what Chris Bruster is also trying to say,
is that the Rockets understand that maybe giving him that
ninety million dollars in the last two year of years
of his deal isn't good business. No, I think when
you look at it overall, if he accepted a handshake agreement,
we all do this and every job. You have everybody

(19:10):
out there listening, We thank you for taking a few
minutes with us here on Fox Sports Sunday. In this business,
there's a lot of handshake behind the closed doors. Hey,
we're gonna do this and however many months and we'll
make good here there or whatever that never comes to fruition.
How many jobs have have you all out there? You
know you've been promised this guy leaves, I'm gonna get

(19:31):
to slide up, or I'm gonna get to learn this
new task and or this new aptitude on a computer program.
I'm gonna get sent to this class or sent to
this conference, and then it doesn't happen. Someone else gets
the nod. You're salty about it. Here he's saying, I
don't want to take a discount if that's the that
it was the original, right, I want forty five million
dollars and that's what you're gonna pay me for what

(19:52):
year after year of playoff failures and early exits and
bad decision making, breaking down physically time and again at
critical junctures in a season, and most notably here and
granted they you know, we go through the pressure of
ISO ball and what it does to the body and
you can see it coming a mile away with Chris Paul,

(20:13):
which is a matter of when, and then it happened
to hit at the most inopportune time, when they've got
seemingly a series in hand. Now, you can tell me
all you want that they win that series. I still
would want to believe that the Warriors had shown us
time and again that they could rally off the mat
and finish off two more games like they did with

(20:33):
Chris Paul out. But the fact of the matter is
that this is a guy whose history says I've already
got a bunch of injuries. I'm not a prime time
player and playoff. I'm not going to be the guy
to take you over the top against the Warriors. And
I want five million on a mid thirties, right, That's
what I want. So if he will legitimately walked away

(20:54):
from a hundred and seventy million dollars guaranteed or a
wink and a nod in Houston, he's a dope, Okay,
he should be in the Uncle Drew movie and hanging
out with with what looks like a dope premise there,
So this or go back and I guess try to
make it up on your your insurance commercials along the way,
because that's just asinine to leave that kind of legitimate

(21:15):
money on the table for what might happen here when
you know it's a year to year deal. I I
think when you look at what Chris Paul's and we
always will bring this into play, what his legacy is,
I like that legacy will be. I think that Chris
Paul is actually different than maybe other superstars, where if
the Rockets did win a championship, he would be a

(21:39):
part of that legacy of Wow. Chris Paul helped bring
a championship to Houston. So much of when Kevin Durant
left Oklahoma City was he's just you know, going along
for the ride with Golden State, and would they really
be his championships? And who really gets to claim the championships?
Very rarely do you get two superstars on the same
team being able to claim a title like I don't

(22:00):
think we look at Heck, we don't look at the
Lakers titles with Kobe and Shack. I look at those
as Shack. These titles. That's the way it's always been.
Yes they count for Kobe, but they've always been seen
as Shock and the Lebron title with Cleveland was a
title that is not Kyrie's. And and even with the

(22:22):
two with the Miami Heat, I'm not Yeah, Dwayne Wade's
got three titles, but two of those were Lebrons, and
Chris Bosh unfortunately is left out. But I think that
if if the Rockets do win an NBA title, Chris
Paul is going to get that recognition and get that
and that is that is different, and that's something that
he has to weigh. And if I'm the Houston Rockets,
you know, and to your point, yeah, I don't want
to We've talked about it on the show. I don't

(22:43):
want to pay him forty six million dollars three years
from now, four years from now for the simple fact
of he couldn't be there in our most important spot.
So Chris Paul has to swallow some pride if he
really wants to change his I guess he still get
paid for three years. If you want to get the
three year max. Wouldn't even give him three years at

(23:04):
this point with the body, it's like, you want to
go year to year, We'll do the Lebron thing. We'll
sign you two in one. But what we're taking the option.
It's not your option. It's the only the only reason
I say the shorter deals, I think another team would
be willing to do so. I'm not sure if there's
another team around the NBA and in dollars would be different, obviously,
But if if at least if you got a three
year deal in stay in Houston, I'm like, all right,

(23:25):
I'm with a contender. If he just wanted for the money,
maybe there's some other team that would just want to
pay him his max. That would be you know, fine
for him, and then he wouldn't win a title. Yeah,
And that's the thing is, as he goes through and
if legit the reports that were out of a week
ago of what he's looking for cash wise are legit,
then I'm Darryl Moorey. I'm clapping my hands and saying,

(23:46):
go find someone else to pay you that kind of
money over three years. And we like you here when
you think we had it figured out, we were on
the cusp of something great. But you can't commit that
kind of dollar, especially the way the cap and luxury
taxes and everything constrict you anymore. That you've just seen
too many cracks and Chris Paul to believe that that's

(24:08):
that's a final. So for him, it's all that legacy
Mount Rushmore kind of fun that we talk about with
players all the time. If I'm the Rockets, I would
almost instead of paying him that money at the end,
I'd almost rather take my chances figure out a way
to get you know, Clint Capella, James Harden is obviously
going to be there. Maybe let the Warriors thing run

(24:28):
out if that's going to be the worst case scenario
and so you're not damaged five years from now, that
could be another option as well for Houston. He's my Carmen.
I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports. Stay come to

I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Sunday. Last Sunday, Mike,
I was broadcasting live from the US Open at shinnicok
Kills as we were getting set for a final round
and we were just coming off of a third round

(26:46):
where the course conditions were, let's just say a little
bit difficult, and you were out there heckling Phil Michelson.
Oh that was that was not happening. I was reporting,
and apparently I was seen on camera a few times.
Michelson scrum let's put it into the sizzle that they had. Well,
the point being is it's still a topic of conversation
a week later, people still talking about what happened a

(27:07):
week ago. This weekend, the PGA Tours at the Travelers
Championship Final Around play going to be seen on Golf
Channel and CBS today from Cromwell, Connecticut at TPC River Highlands. Now.
Jim Furich took part in the event, but unfortunately Furich
missed the cut, finished at one over par. Earlier this week,
I had a chance to speak with Jim Furick about

(27:28):
a lot of topics, including his Ryder Cup captaincy that
is going to be coming up in September as he
leads the United States against the Europeans as they go
play in France. But when I got a chance to
speak with Jim earlier this week, I also asked him
about what we talked about last week at the US Open.
He was a guy that ended up making the cut
and had to play in those conditions. Here's a piece

(27:49):
of the conversation that I had with Jim Furick, the
U S Ryder Cup Captain, not only about that Ryder Cup,
but about the US Open. And I asked him what
two players expect from a US Open. Worse, I don't
know if there's a lot of gripes. I think I
think we we expect a very difficult golf course, right
it's the U s Open. We expect usually tight fairways,

(28:10):
heavy rough, firm, fast greens, and difficult pin placements and
you know, a really stern test of golf. What happens,
it's it's a lot harder to set up a golf
course than most people think. And the reason why is
they're stressing that golf course out there, letting it dry out, firm, up, um,
and it's changing throughout the day. And I think the U.

(28:31):
S J as they said, they got caught off guard
a little bit. That golf course changed a lot more
dramatically than they expected. They had three pin placements basically
on the back nine, which were thirteen, fifteen and eighteen
that got to a point that didn't reward good shots.
You know when you could you had a difficult time
if you hit a nice iron shot into the green
and you had a difficult time hitting a first pot

(28:53):
that would stay within ten or fifteen ft of the whole.
That's not rewarding a good golf shot. And uh, you
know what I do. I know that's not what they wanted. Um,
they probably uh you know, they changed the set up
a little bit on Sunday. You didn't see the same
thing happened. They gave guys an opportunity to shoot some
lower numbers. Um, that's not what they want. I'll give

(29:17):
the U. S G a credit. I think if you
listen to their comments on Saturday evening Sunday morning, I wasn't.
They apologized, but they admitted that, hey, this is not
how we want the golf course to be set up.
It didn't reward good shots and uh, you know, I
give them credit for uh for kind of I don't
know if at meetings are I were, but for talking
it through and and uh, you know in the past

(29:39):
you didn't see that as much. But it's a little
bit of a new day and age. I think for
the U S G A and and uh, they're doing
the best they can. It's just a difficult process to
set it up that severe. Every once in a while,
it's gonna go over the edge. And uh, that's what
we're dealing with. On Saturday, three months from now, you're
gonna be captaining the US Ryder Cup team. What spend
the most difficult part about that so far in leading

(30:02):
up to it? What are some of the challenges that
that you didn't realize team with the captaincy of a
Ryder Cup team. Well, maybe just how many decisions the
captain's involved with, um, which which I think is a
good thing. Maybe the amount of time, uh that it
takes out of our schedules. Um. But I've I've I've
enjoyed the process a lot. I think the most difficult

(30:25):
decisions are yet to come. I think so far it's
been a pretty smooth sailing. Um, you know, really just
trying to make sure everything's set up well and in
Paris for our team, our team room, how the golf
course is gonna play, trying to trying to get prepared,
but you know, making the captain's picks, the selections for
the four folks to join, Uh, the eight guys that

(30:46):
qualified for the team. That's gonna be difficult. Putting the
pairings out, it's gonna be difficult. The prep work the
week of, it's gonna be difficult. So UM, I think
the hardest part yet to come. And right now, UM myself,
Ice Cap and PJ of America, we're really focused on
kind of getting all our ducks in a row so
that when those difficult decisions are to be made, were prepared.

(31:09):
Jimp Errick joining us. Just a couple of more. When
do you start narrowing the candidate or the field for
the possible at large candidates? Do you do that or
do you just have all thirty guys at the end
and then you figure out what three you want and
then the one other one the next week? How does
that play out? Do you narrow the field leading up
at the PGA Championship When when the PJAS done in

(31:30):
mid August, we'll have our our eight qualifiers, So it
gives us a few weeks to kind of really get
our hands on what we've got on the team. What
are our strengths, were our weaknesses? Um, trying to put
some pairings together. Uh, and maybe those four guys are
are going to basically feel if we have any weaknesses,
if we have any areas that we think we can

(31:51):
improve on, if we've got some guys that we think
would make great pairings. Uh, with the folks on the team,
you know, those are the guys we're looking at. But
you're looking at is that I want the best players
in the world to represent the US. I want the
guys that are in pretty good form at that time.
I think the golf course we're playing over there, it's
a phenomenal golf course. Look Golf National. Uh. It requires

(32:13):
guys that drive the ball really well, and and match
play always requires good putting right and and so you
take a mixture of those things and and with that
will uh, you know, we'll we'll pick our four guys
that we think are going to help the US be successful.
Is there a contingency plan if Tiger makes the team
for his vice captain duties. Is there a plan in place? Yeah,
It's something Tiger and I talked about a number of

(32:35):
times this year. Originally when I asked him to be
a vice captain, we talked about the possibility of being
able to do both. Uh. He had a lot of
confidence in his game, and he felt like, uh, you know,
he thought he was going to have some success this year,
and then so far he has. Um, it's good to
see him healthy, it's good to see him playing pain free,
and and uh, we basically said that we've we've crossed

(32:58):
that road when we got there. If if you were
to qualified for the team or or to get a
captain's pick, we would, uh, you know, is it possible
to be playing vice captain? Absolutely? You know, but we
talked about what was best for him, what was best
for the team, and and uh, you know, you know,
whether or not we would try to replace him with
another vice captain. You realize, you know, we we have

(33:18):
a lot of vice captains. I'll have five of them
so far. I've named Davis Love, Tiger Woods, and Steve
Stricker Um, and I get two more selections, uh for that,
So I have plenty of guys, and that's what makes
you know, the possibility of a playing vice captain that
that that that's what I guess that's what makes that possible.

(33:39):
That was Jim Furick, us Ryder Cup captain, joining us
talking about Ryder Cup and and looking back at the
U S Open. And it's crazy to think because we're
already halfway through the major season that we've got in golf,
and you can already look ahead to the Ryder Cup
in September. Some decisions to make. But I find it
interesting in the point where he said, because the eight

(34:00):
qualifiers that you see that the United States has is
I mean, it's brooks Kepta, Dustin Johnson, Jordan's like that,
like that's right now, like what you would get for
the top eight, and you're like, wow, this this team
is amazing. For how strong that top eight is. You
can have some some flexion, you know, some some flexibility,
I guess is the term to say, you know what,

(34:22):
this guy may not have made the top twelve on
his own merits, but he pairs really well with somebody
in that in that you know, eight guys that we've got,
So maybe he's a better option than this guy. It's
some flexibility that the US has, and it's interesting to
hear Jim Furick say that that when they're looking at
the at large picks, it may not necessarily be the

(34:43):
best player at that time. It maybe a really really
good player that teams well with another guy. That's an
awful lot of power to have. I don't I don't
know that I want want that. Given the closed knit
circle that the golf community is, it's a small world.
So now you start looking at office politics taken to
a higher level and how much, Hey, these guys work

(35:05):
out well together, will they travel well together? I mean
all sorts of random considerations as opposed to let's just
put on eight best statistically out there and let him
get after it. And there were times in the United
States had the better team you would think, in the
past than the Europeans. But it's how the Europeans played
as a team. So the US ended up looking at

(35:26):
different options and different ways to go about it, and
they got the Roder Cup in twenty six and we'll
try to hold onto it coming up in September. He's
my Carmen, I'm Dan Buyer. This is a Fox Sports
Sunday Come to you live with the Geico Fox Sports
Radio studios, and there was a comeback last night in
Major League Baseball and more of the same and the
same game. We'll tell you what that's all about here

(35:47):
on Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports Radio.
Panama is on the board. Yeah, they got that for him,
six and one, only four more minutes of this misery.
Injury time has a whole other meaning in this situation.
I'm waiting for one of these guys, you just start
dribbling the ball, you know, just doing that hacky sack
kind of thing, just to taunt them. They've been they've been,

(36:10):
they've been playing, they've been playing back and this is
like the this is the basketball version of the four
corners offense, and just running down the clock. They're just
kicking it back and forth. I don't think I don't
think we've seen in the match right now is wrapping
up on Fox Sports One, with the rest of the
World Cup action on Fox coming up today. I think
this is the first time we've actually seen the goal

(36:30):
in about three minutes, because the camera hasn't had the
pan from midfield because it's just been back and forth.
Nice half off for the cameraman. Yeah, just just set
it in the middle, give it a wide pan, set
it and be done. Set it and forget it. Ronko,
nicely done. He's my carbon. I'm Dan Buyer. This is
Fox Sports Sunday Company Live for the Geico Fox Sports
Radio Studios, and it's time to catch you up on

(36:53):
what was happening while you were sleeping with our good
friend Isaac Lowan Crown. Hello Isaac, Hello Dan and my
coun We begin by going all the way back to
while you were sleeping late Friday night, the Dodgers taking
on the Mets, and Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers at
the plate with the bases loaded from wheel fly ball

(37:14):
the right field. Bellingers had a grand slam, the second
of his career, into the second deck. So again, that's
Friday night, Charlie Stein of the calling AM five seventy
l A Sports as the Dodgers won that one five
to two. And then while you were sleeping last night,
pinch hitter Matt Kemp came to the plate against the Mets,
also with the bases loaded, flyball the left field, and

(37:37):
a pinch pit grand slam home run. Matt Kemp so
grand slams in back to back games for the Dodgers,
as they won that one over the Mets while you
were sleeping last night, eight to three. But believe it
or not, that wasn't the story. The story was Clayton Kershaw,
who returned from the disabled list after missing three weeks

(37:59):
with a lower back strain. Last night. It was essentially
the equivalent of a rehab started. Was his first start
since May thirty one, only a second start since the
beginning of May, also miss time with the left biceps injury,
and last night he pits the first three innings. He
allowed two runs on five hits, but struck out four.
He threw fifty five pitches and most importantly, came out

(38:21):
of it healthy in his return to the mound. Well,
that's a plus for the Dodgers. In negative for the
Mets is that the Dodgers are taking Clayton Kershaw and
using uh the Mets as a rehab start. Like that's
how bad it was? Had rain in Nebraska's where where
he would have pitched for the Triple A affiliate uh
in Oklahoma City, as is Mike that they were gonna

(38:42):
be on the road, But yeah, they were, like Okay,
there could be weather throw against the Mets. It's pretty
much the same thing anyway. That's what the message I
got that the Dodgers were sending the Mets. So we
got the All Star matchup. We got Kershaw against de Graham.
Graham gives up three first time since mid April that
Hed given up three yearned runs. I think it's the
er a quadrupled five innings. It was had a one

(39:05):
five one coming into the game. But once again, the
anemic Mets bats are at play. They've lost twelve of
thirteen home games and twelve of their last thirteen, and
so all the speculation now it's as much as we
love all the other playoff races, like do they actually
unload their ace pictures because of how miserable they are

(39:26):
at this point. The the Dodgers have beaten the Mets
eleven straight times. Does that numbers sound right, guys? I
think it's eleven in a row that the Dodgers have won.
And I mentioned this and Mike and I teamed up
on on Friday Night and I was as I was
in for Jason Smith on on Mike Show, Mike and
Jason Show. When you when I was in New York.
All the talk was how great the Yankees were and

(39:47):
how much Stanton stunk, and how the Mets were actually worse.
And I totally forgot that the Mets got off to
that eleven one in one start to the season. So imagine,
look at how bad this has been for them over
that wretch. Um. This is atrocious and it is a
it is a foregone conclusion. As they said that Tim Tebow,
they feel in New York will be called up in
September because there's nothing else for them to do. It's

(40:10):
funny because we have a Tim Tebow story coming up
a little later when we get to our bag of
fun in a couple of hours. Reminder, Fox Sports Sunday
brought to you by Granger, the products and services you
need when you need them. Grangers got your back to
help keep your facility running. Granger for the ones who
get it done. Thanks to Isaac Lowan Crown will not
only keep us sub todate of what's happening at the

(40:30):
World Cup, but also we'll be joining us as we
get the family together to play the feud in about
fifty minutes or so. By the way, that NL Wild
Card Race we talked about the America League playoffs kind
of being said already, the NL wild card race is
gonna get very interesting in the second half of the season.
Who won the NBA Draft We'll tell you next year
on Fox Sports Sunday. Rolling on on a Sunday morning,

(40:53):
as England rolled over Panama, getting ready for more action
from the World Cup that you will see again on Fox.
I'll tell you what yesterday, Germany's victory over Sweden, that
too one victory. When you talk about drama that was
that was reminiscent, and I'll compare it to Jordan's over

(41:16):
Elo look at that, and I know that there were
other ramifications of it, was that was the one that
really launched Michael Jordan's I think like the sixty three
against Boston was one thing, but it was it's that
shot ending the series, the last shot. I mean, that's
the last the last kick that you're going to get.
If you don't make that free kick and the goalie

(41:40):
catches it, kicks it away, it's a one one draw
and then you end up Germany is asking what if
talking about saving the day? A little bit more competitive
Germany and Sweden than what we had this morning with
England and Panama. Well they give and go play to
get it done and certainly a little bit of uh
jowin going on afterwards the Swedish co wh's not happy.

(42:00):
It's interesting that we were just sitting here and they
take people behind the curtain here and the guy go
Fox Sports Radio studios. We've got a number of monitors
in front of us. We were watching that match on
the pitch, but also you've got other sporting channels. You've
got the scrolls and making sure we're not missing anything,
keeping you apprize of all the latest information. But there
was a nice feature being done on lot on Uh.

(42:22):
Sweden could have used lott On and a little bit
of his magic yesterday and that match against Germany. Obviously
people here in Los Angeles excited. UH. And he's got
people fired up about Galaxy Soccer. But certainly on the
international stage one of their biggest stars and best spokespeople
missing uh And certainly in that match one that you know,

(42:44):
just his playmaking, his ability, uh, just presence would have
been a much a big difference maker. UH and it
have been great for us on Fox. Of course, I'm
not I'm not going out on a huge limb because
they're one of the top countries. But I'm just gonna say,
this guy's Belgium is gonna win the World Cup. Get
your market down. Did you get in Eastern Time? No?

(43:08):
I did not. I did not. I did not go
to New Jersey, which, by the way, is a story
that got lost last week. I think is as New
Jersey then allowed sports betting, is they the the bets
that were being made. It was the governor that ended

(43:29):
up making two bets, like like it's one thing, or
the Delaware governor made the one bet on the Phillies
to win that next that night against the Cubs. This
guy actually made two, which makes me think that he
may have a problem because he bet on the deck.
I was gonna ask you if you thought maybe under
another name with cameras not around. He's got an account
set up at the Devil's to win the Stanley Cup

(43:52):
next year. But then he's like, I'll pick Germany to
win the World Cup as well, and why don't you
give me that pony in the you know, third race
at Santa And like it was just like there's one
thing to do one for like I am going to
place a bet on the Devil's to win this series.
Ceremonial down team bet Well, I'm here, let's put Quella

(44:12):
and uh I need a try effect at one nine
six in the fourth Amazing, absolutely amazing. He's my carbon.
I'm Dan Bier are Company alive with the Geico Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you or more
on car insurance. Busy Geico dot com for a free
rate quote. Yes, Group H will wrap up play today
with two matches Japan and Senegal coming up in an

(44:34):
hour on Fox. Then after that Poland takes on Columbia,
and so with with that, Mike Carmen. Then all of
a sudden, now we are cycling through another round of
play at the World Cup, and the knockout stage will
be here before we know it. It's a beautiful thing.
You know how you get reminded on your social media
accounts of things that you posted many years ago. It's
only appropriate as we get towards NBA Free agency. I

(44:56):
was reminded of something I posted in The Lion King
was released twenty years ago today. Simba decided to opt
out and then returned to defend his home and legacy
hashtag movie and very good I love that. That's I'm
I'm half intelligent in that particular post. I love those

(45:16):
Facebook memories and you're like six years ago, you're like,
why did my camera phones think he's my Carmen. I'm
Dan Buyer. That's Ryan Denis, our executive producer. That's Sam Kinsley,
our technical producer, serving up some hot takes and sausage
on this morning. What's happened in Fellas? Another Sunday with you, gentlemen, Yes, gentlemen,

(45:37):
hot cakes and sausage. I like how Ryan is like
allowing case. Sam, you step in first, like you're right ahead,
welcome in. We actually talked about this. It can be
when you're addressing two people at once. You know, you
have to kind of coordinate that a little bit. So
I stepped up and Ryan here he is. I like that.
There was a little more energy, a little more passion,
a little bit more fired up this time, aground, Let's

(45:59):
go well, speaking of energy and passion, Knicks fans for
better or worse? Yes, So, Kevin Knox was booed by
the Knicks fans on Thursday Night's NBA Draft as they
selected him ninth. Overall, these were also the same fans
that booed the selection of pre stops, and we all
know how that turned out. So what's worse booing draft

(46:20):
picks before their career pans out or simply the camera
panning over to the same kid, you know, the crying
Knicks kid were during Kevin Knox's big moment and then
I got kind of a wild card here for you too.
Are any of these worse than the getting the whole
guy at golf tournaments? There's there's nothing. There's nothing worse

(46:41):
than that, except maybe mashed potatoes guy. That would be
who's the same golf guy, except he just yells mashed potatoes.
The point about the I don't like, I love the
booing of picks, and I think that the NFL stumbled
upon this. I don't think that it was it was
meant to have been like this, but what we saw

(47:02):
with David Akers responding to you know what happened last
year in Philadelphia and now you've got the fans listen.
We knew when the draft was gonna be on the road,
when they went to Chicago, do you have an audience
they're gonna boo in the packers are on the clock.
We knew that you go to Philadelphia. They're gonna boo
in the Giants of the Cowboys and the Redskins. But

(47:22):
it's now taking on a bit of a life of
its own because I was worried taking the draft out
of New York we would lose that flavor, and we
still have it. We just have it in different arenas
of teams hating other teams. So I like the booing,
and I've realized that I like it even outside of
New York. What bothered me with what we saw with
the Knicks pick. By the way, Kevin Knox is gonna

(47:42):
be so good they're gonna call him the New York
Knox at one point. How about that the knox Er Bockers.
What I didn't like was when they showed the same
kid and his dad who booed the Kristops Porzingis pick.
They were both in Porzingis jerseys like stick to your Guns,
like go with the Nila Kina jersey or something different.

(48:03):
You could still be critical of Porzingis, but no, they
jumped on the bandwagon and totally negated their booing. I
thought that that was a bad look. So that bothered
me more than anything. Keep the booing at the NBA Draft.
Stick to your guns, fans. Yeah, we're gonna go all
the way through. I mean the other thing. Knox gets
the big win because he he flips everybody off by
wearing the fortnighte suit. I want to know how much
you got paid for that? Good on it? You know what,

(48:26):
Take your cash and move forward. Now you're playing on
the big stage. Welcome aboard. Uh the crying kid cam.
They know what. People hate it? So you keep going
back to that. Well, right, the other guy you can't control.
So golf guy yelling get in the hole. There's gonna
be a dope in every course, or twelve of his
brethren that are gonna yell that or other things just

(48:46):
because well they need to be heard in their lives,
their shallow and sad, pitiful little existences. So that's their
moment in the sun. And then they look around, going
there's somebody else not me, or they start to hing
away because they've now been caught. H That guy's the
worst because there's there's nothing to be gained there, at

(49:06):
least with the crying kid. The television people know they're
pushing buttons. They know that that's getting some conversation. The
other guys, just come on, I'm trying to watch golf.
Leet me alone. The booing at drafts, that's that's like
part of our our makeup, right. People get all excited
and angry. It's like, oh, this guy hasn't done anything yet.
I don't care. And that's not the pick you wanted.

(49:28):
That's not the player you wanted. So be vociferous. Let
the front office know. And then I mean, hell, they
boot Lake up a couple of years ago at a
Chris Mullin ceremony, and now they're three time champions. It
goes with the territory. Man, Wow, I don't know, jeez.

(49:48):
The crowd came and booing because he was so long
that I don't know. Come on, that was a better
speech than what they scripted for the Radio Disney Award gesture.
And they come on, come on, I love how you
know the Radio Disney Award speeches going on. I have kids,
have kids, Ryan Dennis all right, Well, as much as

(50:11):
I love the like the Chris stops, like the the
New York Fire Department, like jerseys that I saw him wearing,
I'm I'm with you, Dan, like stick to your guns,
if your bank, if you go in booing the guy.
You know, you can't just all of a sudden and
flip flop and say he's the greatest player of all time.
You gotta switch switch it up. But isn't that like

(50:32):
turning heel or turning face? Isn't that a w W
E move? We're halfway through, all of a sudden, you're like,
you know what, I gotta reconsider this, and the way
you go, you're basically a politician. That's I still think
there's enough spots where they can be critical. You know
they can. They aren't even winning. So if they are
winning and he was the sole reason, there's still a
reason why you can be um critical and I just hey,

(50:53):
stick to your guns. That's like that. We're a throwback
jersey like that. That's the option. That's what I tell people. Now.
If you're worried about a guy getting traded and you
don't want to buy a jersey because you just don't
know how long he's going to stick with a certain
team as long as you like your team, just get
an old player because guess what, they're never gonna be
traded again. If they're done playing at your jersey is

(51:14):
good to go. That's the safest route. By the way,
if you're an O c D guy like me with
numbers jem State Ryan, that's Ryan Dennis's Twitter handle. He's
got one and seventy people that he follows, he's likes. Wise,
you are at hundred exactly. Tweets wise, you're at eight.

(51:37):
So if you were to, like just to tweet one
more thing, it would be nine dred one seventy hundred exactly.
And then if we just got you six more followers,
that would be seventy and it would be like a
great O C D fest at jem State Ryant goodness,
And we were on a quest today zeros all around
Now like now Sam, because you're Iowa Sam ninety nine

(51:58):
on Twitter, your goal us to have nines all across
the board. Okay, so nine nine tweets following you know,
maybe ninety nine people, nine nine followers and nine d
ninety nine lights. So I gotta go down with my
who I'm following. Somebody's got to get cut. I figured
that would be I figured that would be easier than

(52:18):
you know, following eight hundred and seventies some you know,
more accounts, That would be a lot easy work. But
get get Iowa Sam on Twitter at Iowa Sam ninety nine.
And again you Ryan Dennis at a gem State Ryan,
get Mike at simple Enough, follow me over at Swollen Dome.
I'm at Dan Buyer on Foxes Recompany Life for the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. It is Fox Sports Sunday.

(52:38):
You can always listen to the show on the I
Heart radio app Sirius XM channel A D three, and
if you miss it, you can find the show on iTunes.
To subscribe to Fox Sports Radio weekends and download the

light on a journey through Major League Baseball. That is
that is one goal in mind. It's something you don't
want to miss. This great story about helping needy children

(53:00):
is next year on Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Sunday
on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan Buyer, That's Mike Carmen.
Glad to have you with us on a Sunday ball
Casey leading you found around of the Travelers Championship on
the PGA Tour at a star studded field and mentioned
Tiger Woods teaming it up next weekend, We've got soccer
on Fox coming up at the top of the Hour,

(53:20):
Japan taking on Senegal, something that you don't want to
miss again. If you ever missed the show, just go
to iTunes, subscribe to Fox Sports Radio weekends and download
the show every single week. I am Dan Buyer. Find
me on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox Mike, they
can get you at find me over at Swollen. Don't reminder.
Fox Sports Sundays brought to you by Granger the products
and services you need when you need them. Grangers got

(53:41):
your back to help keep your facility running. Granger were
the ones who get it done. I have a number,
and I know it's not thirty or more, and I'm
pretty sure that it's not over twenty. And the number
that I'm talking about is ballparks visited in my lifetime
of Major League Baseball ballparks. And I know some people
who have gone and tried to knock out every park

(54:04):
that they You know that you can in major League
Baseball to try to get the magical thirty and some
with new stadiums at old stadiums and up maybe even
breaking the thirty mark. But it's a dream of many.
It's a dream that you would like to do. Yeah,
it's a it's a great, great thing in baseball fans
and sports fans. I know I would love to do
what Ron Clements is doing. And Ron Clements joins us

(54:25):
now sports writer and the website I want to get
out Ron is home run on Wheels dot Com. As
you are traveling to every Major League baseball ballpark and
and even others outside of that in an effort to
bring awareness to the needs of children. You're teaming up
with the Children's Hope Alliance. First of all, Ron, welcome

(54:45):
to the show and tell us how did you come
about with this idea and how has the trip gone
so far? Well, thank you for having me. The trips
going going well so far. We're in Milwaukee now. We
did uh Stadium? All right? All right? Half my and
it's kind of nice that the carton that the Brewers

(55:06):
are playing the Cardinals, because I'm from Wisconsin, so that's
my team, and but my wife is a Cardinals fang.
It's a little bit of a battle. Like we saw
the picture here of us with the sausages in Milwaukee yesterday.
Did you get to racey well, but yeah, the at
the Miller Park they've got a display with the sausages.

(55:26):
So my nephew and I who went to the game.
We had some family family members go with us to
the game yesterday and which my wife's team won that one.
But but my nephew and I posed like like we
were racing with the sausages. That was pretty funny. But um.
But so to answer your your first question of how
this all came about, Um, it started what kind of
last May when my wife started a new position Wells

(55:49):
Fargo that was remote. And then a couple of months later,
it was July, she stepped out of art the office
and that we had at our house in Charlotte and
was like, you know, I could do this anywhere. And
so then we just started kicking around travel ideas and
a baseball trip came up and it was like and
it was just like, well, heck, yeah, let's do it.
We'll get an r V and we'll just travel the

(56:10):
country and see every stadium. Um. So then a couple
of months later, we had dinner with a friend of
ours named Celest Domingez, and from that conversation or from
that dinner, we had a conversation that was like, you know,
what if we could take some kids do a game.
And then so Celeste is the CEO of Children's Hope Alliance,
and that's how that partnership was born. Whereas you know,

(56:32):
it just kind of snowballed from there or and we
bought the r V in February. We've got a rap
with the Children's Hope Alliance logo. The home Run Out
Wheels logo is on the r V and we're we're
doing this. Uh Thursday's game, we're able to get some
foster kids to a game at Miller Park. The Brewers
donated fifty tickets to use their organization in Wisconsins who

(56:54):
had some kids go to the game there. When we
started in Miami, the Marlins donated forty tickets to a
group in Miami called Our Kids of Miami Dates. We
had some kids taken Opening Day with us against the Cubs,
and uh, the Detroit Tigers for the June thirteenth game
donated tickets to the Student Advocacy Center of Michigan. So
we've been able to get some kids out to major
League baseball games and and that's really rewarding. We had

(57:16):
a little boy, probably four years old sitting next to
us Thursday night and first major League baseball game and
probably would not have been able to happen without the
donation of tickets from the Brewers. Ron Clevid sports writer
joining us. And we're not talking about what Ron is
covering in sports. We're talking about a special thing that
he is doing. Home run on Wheels dot Com again

(57:38):
traveling the country, and I said thirty, Ron, and I
know that's that's that's less than what it is because
you're hitting other parks here and there. What so far
on this trip you said you've hit seventeen ballparks. What
has been the best part of this journey so far?
And I know it's not all walking into Fenway Park
or whatever it may be. There's gotta be something, you know,

(58:00):
you just mentioned a four year old going to to
his first game. What has been the best part about
this journey so far? M We were in Durham, North Carolina,
at a Durham Bowls game, and uh, Children's Hole Bliance
operates in North Carolina, So on our way from Atlanta
to Washington, d C. Because children so, because there are
no Major League Baseball teams in North Carolina, we wanted

(58:22):
to do some minor league games so we could get
some kids from Children's Hole Alliance to a professional baseball game.
So we got twenty tickets from the Greensboro Grasshoppers and
sixty tickets from the Durham Bowls, which was awesome. But
there was a little girl, a little nine year old
girl sitting behind us in Durham, and she leaned over
to her foster mom at some point in the game
and was like, and now she had been asking questions,

(58:44):
like a lot of baseball questions during the game, so
she was really into it. Then she leaned over to
her foster mom and said, I've never been to a
baseball game before. And I I was welling up I
because that was just awesome. Uh, And I I looked
at my wife and I was just like, did you
hear that? Right? Making dreams come true? And given that opportunity,

(59:06):
and they always talk about baseball trying to figure out
how to get to youth. Certainly this is a way
and doing a lot of a lot of good overall.
You can find information about the Children's Hope Alliance at
Children's Hope Alliance dot org as well in terms of
their efforts along the way, so the highways and by ways,
the greasy spoons. Everybody talks about ballpark fair best ballpark

(59:29):
food you've found along the way and introducing that to
two kids perhaps as well. And the food at at
Marlins Park was probably the best we've had so far.
You got like the taste of Miami area down there
in law Man. Uh, Marlin's Park probably had the best
food so far of the seventeen stadiums we've seen. That's

(59:50):
that's good. Well, you know, you're always just trying to
you know, we we do this on the highways and byways.
I think that's the extra part of any blog I
would do if I were going to do cross country tour,
would have to be you know, a how much weight
I had gained, how bad my cholesterol had gotten, and
where the best greasy spoons were. Well, I I know,
like the Diamondbacks make a note of having something crazy,

(01:00:12):
it always seems at Chase Field. I know that the
tour is going to go to Arizona in August, so
we'll have to see if they load up on one
of the enormous things that they have done. Ron clements
joining us here on Fox Sports Sunday. He's Mike Armen,
I'm Dan Buyer. Is Ron is touring the Major League
Baseball ballparks across the country, teaming up with the Children's

(01:00:33):
Hope Alliance. You're a sportswriter, John Ron. You don't want
to be jaded, but sometimes we are in the media.
We see a lot of we see things and we
do it from that reporter's eye. Has that changed from
you doing this is is? Has that changed your outlook
on sports? Are on baseball by having this experience so far?

(01:00:53):
Very much? So, it's nice to just be able to
be just a fan at a baseball game and I
have to worry about all I gotta write this thing
way deadlines, doesn't it? Yeah? And now we we do
have some kind of self imposed deadlines, and we are
doing stadium reviews. We're in Milwaukee now when we've kind
of fallen behind. I think we're we're through. We've written

(01:01:16):
twelve stadium reviews and what we're doing there is we're
doing the atmosphere, affordability, accessibility, and of course the food
um at every ballpark. But but we are we are
a little behind. So we're gonna be in Milwaukee though
we're not going to another game until July four, so
we got some time um to hopefully catch up on

(01:01:36):
those stadium reviews, otherwise the beer and bronze will have
weighed you down, Uh as you go, So, you know,
creating awareness and and how how do you look to
this in terms of, you know, the expansion and the
reach and trying to measure you know, what you've been
able to do along the way. That's a good question.
I'm not sure how I can like quantify that, but

(01:01:58):
I will say that it's just driving the r V
around is it helps create that conversation because we've had
people come up to the r V and and we'll ask, hey,
what is Children's Hope Alliance or what is Home Run
on Wheels? And then we get to tell them Children's
Hope Aliance gave us a bunch of swag to hand out,
like T shirts and cups and sunglasses, and we still

(01:02:18):
have some cups left, but I've handed out all the
T shirts and all the sunglasses to people and and
then you know, they see the logo and what is this?
And and so that's kind of what we're doing when
we're unable to get kids to games or or even
when or even if we're out at a restaurant somewhere.
And Uh, it's funny the the question always comes up

(01:02:38):
when you meet somebody new where you're from or where
do you live, and then it's like, well, there's a
complicated answer to that simple question. I'm I'm from Wisconsin.
My wife is from Illinois. We met in St. Louis
and then we moved to Charlotte. But now we live
in an RV. Perfect because Mike's from Illinois and I'm
from Wisconsin as well. Yeah, it's a it's a great
it's a great way to team up. If if you're

(01:02:59):
if you're in any of these, if you're a Twins fan,
a Rockies fan in in Denver, I know you're gonna
be there in the month of July when the when
the tour resumes after Independence Day, and then you're gonna
be on the West coast in Seattle and late July,
same with San Francisco in Oakland and making your way
to l A and then back through Texas kind of
making that swing. Heck, if you want to find out

(01:03:21):
the the tour, go to home run on wheels dot com.
Find out all about it. You can see the blog
and they can see where you've caught up, and you
can find Ron on Twitter at Ron underscore Clements great job, Ron,
you know this is this is awesome that you're doing it,
and we wish you guys the best of luck. And
I want to let everybody know look for the RV
when when when they go to a ball game. But

(01:03:43):
but this is just really awesome and and kudos to
you guys for putting this together. Thank you very much,
and thanks for having us on you know this, Uh,
being on your show will only help increase awareness of
the NISA foster kids and hopefully we want to inspire
people to get involved, whether it's through fostering or adopting
or even or or even just volunteering your time or
donating to a local organization. So we really appreciate it.

(01:04:05):
That's just awesome. And Ron Clements joining us Home Run
on Wheels dot com is the site that you can
find it and uh yeah, quite a tour catch up.
Go to the site and catch up and see what
they're doing stuff from from Ron Clements. I mean you
talk about the highways and by ways. We're talking about
it a little bit earlier, behind the scenes of that's
one of those bucket list kind of things. To hit

(01:04:26):
a bunch of ballparks. I want to hit a bunch
of those college stadiums. Right. I'm a big ten guy,
as are you. But to go experience all those sec battles,
to go go down to the South and and hang
out and and see a bit of that. Maybe go
back to the East Coast. I lived in New York
for a couple of years, but just that different mentality
like you just experienced last last week in terms of

(01:04:49):
Yankee fandom and Red Sox fandom and and the angst
and they wearing the heart on the sleeve. Here in
Los Angeles, it comes and goes. There's an ebb and
flow in terms of how into a team that people are,
but certainly Midwest and East living and dying with with
each pitch and and each you know, made three point

(01:05:09):
or whatever else that you know, getting back on the
road to do that would be pretty sweet down the line.
So jealous of Ron Clemens and his wife right now. Yeah,
just a great, great deal that they have put together.
And to hear him talking about just to hear the
the five year olds and them being able to go
to their first Major League baseball game, there's there's nothing

(01:05:31):
like it. First time in a stadium for any kid
is amazing and I still get chills, like walking into
a stadium when you go to the tunnel and then
you see it. But whether there's the energy, and especially
if you're showing up closer to a kickoff for tip
off for first pitch, when you've got a crowd rolling
and there there's that energy that overtakes you. That, Yeah,

(01:05:51):
as I always love those events through my kid's eyes,
you know, even you know, going to a theme park
or something. Now how it changes after six months that
they're still not jaded. It's still a new vibrant experience
each and every time, and and and I still have
that you know, you still well up at different points
and and whatever else the emotions overtake. It's a beautiful thing.

(01:06:13):
He's Mike Carmen. I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Sunday,
and coming up next. It's hard to believe, but NFL
training camps get underway in one month. Yes, there is
there is a shake up when it comes to quarterbacks
in the NFL. And we continue our tradition of talking
fantasy football every single show this summer, and we'll do

(01:06:35):
it next year on Fox Sports Sunday. Right after Isaac
Lowan Grin gives us the latest of what's happening at
the World Cup. Good morning, Isaac, Dan and Michael. The
goldnets were sizzling at the World Cup earlier today is
England defeated Panama six to one to advance the round
of sixteen. Let's relive how they did it with an
Encore presentation of the England six goal remix. Saud Area runs, Johnston,

(01:07:06):
Here's My Steps, Christ Chist two Stars, Star six, Derek

(01:07:33):
Ray with the calls on FS one. England sixth one
victory included a hat trick by Harry Kane, who took
over the lead for the Golden Boot, which goes to
the World Cup. Goal scoring leader Kane now has five goals,
surpassing Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Belgium's Romello Lucaku, who have
four goals each in the race for the Golden Boot.

(01:07:55):
And by the way, my car once got the Golden Boot.
Just bad luck in a parking violation situation. Coming up
at the top of the her. On Fox, Japan takes
on Senegal and then at two pm Eastern, rounding out
the World Cup triple header for the day. Also on Fox,
Columbia clashes with Poland. Dan and Michael back to you.

(01:08:18):
Thank you very much. Isaac Recomedy Alive with the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say fift center
more on carncterns with Geico. Go to Geico Di Comma
Colleague hundred nine for seven Auto. The only hard part
figuring out which way is easier. I don't know what
they do in Chicago. I don't know what they do
in other snow states, whether it be in the Midwest,

(01:08:38):
whether it be in the Northeast. Mike, but Isaac mentioning
the golden boot that you could get here in Los Angeles,
for you know, when they boot your car, everybody knows
about the the boot it. Maybe you may think it's
the worst thing to happen to your car until you
park on the street in a snow emergency in a city,
because what they do then is then they tow your

(01:09:01):
car and then you have to go to some random
park and and and get it. That's happened to me before.
So the golden boot is actually my silver medal. And
what can happen to your car if you have a
violation not moving it during a snow emergency and then
having to go to some random park and then pay
a whatever fine it was and still get your cars

(01:09:21):
is the worst thing. It's awful because they can pretty
much charge anything you need your car back. Yeah, right there,
there's no set pricing. This becomes a how far did
they have to tow it? When do they do it?
With the emergency that triples it? Uh? And go on
down the line. Yeah that fees and and taxes and
everything else add up very quickly and suddenly you're eating

(01:09:42):
ramen for another month. Not the good type of ram
and not the trendy boogie want ramen, No the cent
sodium laden version in your grocery store. NFL quarterbacks don't
have to eat ramen because they get paid. Healthy and
hopefully NFL quarterbacks this fantasy football season will help you
get paid. Mike Harmon is here to help you get

(01:10:04):
paid as well, to let you know what quarterbacks are
going to shine in the season as we talk fantasy
football here on Fox Sports Sunday once again. The quarterback
position a unique one. Familiar names usually at the top
for Rogers and Brady, and there are some other names
creeping in here and there. Garoppolo, you got golfs, you

(01:10:26):
got who knows about Carson Wentz. What do you see
from the quarterback position. Well, what's funny is as you
go down the list, and we were beginning our tour
doing the at least for now, top five, as we
go into deeper dives on stats, trends and and looking
at schedules and getting in deeper. But if you go
off the consensus rankings right now, mostly usual suspects in

(01:10:51):
that top six or seven spots where you've got Rogers
and Brady and and Cam Newton, who's a bit of
a surprise given the lack of options that he had
last year. You go through the last year's scoring, Russell
Wilson was first, Cam Newton was second because of his
rushing after Due didn't quite dominate in the passing world.

(01:11:12):
But seven fifty four rushing yards plus six touchdowns get
you into a big place, which means we expect a
regression in those numbers. Eventually the rushing numbers for Cam
Newton half to fade. But let's get into the top five.
Really great number one. I'm looking for a repeat from
Russell Wilson. He was nearly fifty points ahead of Cam
Newton for the number one shot thirty four touchdowns, eleven picks,

(01:11:33):
four thousand yards, still getting it done on the ground himself,
look for a better offensive line play, Still waiting to
see how the receiving corps shakes out. Behind gun Balding.
You can bring in Brandon Marshall. We talked a little
about this in terms of off season storylines and what
to expect as you gotta change in face, but we
take Russell Wilson as your number one. Number two, Tom Brady,

(01:11:54):
even though the faces have changed, You've got a lot
of pass catchers. You can look at the guys out
of the backfield, two or three capable running backs that
you can fling it to as well. For all of
the angst and handwringing over the Patriots off season and
how much nobody likes each other, go stop him when
it comes to Sunday in the fall. Number three. I'm
going a bit of a wild card with Kirk Cousins.

(01:12:16):
We don't know what he is in this new offense.
We know this, he's got digs, he's got feeling, he's
got Rudolph Oh, and he's got Dalvin Cook coming back.
So again, dump it to him and watch him fly.
Last year one yards when he even touchdown thirteen interception.
Jad J. Griden, you couldn't use him at all. The
sixth highest ranked fantasy quarterback in terms of scoring. We've

(01:12:37):
got him third this year, number four. But we'll get
to Aaron Rodgers right here. Seven games last year, sixteen touchdowns,
six picks. You look at his past seventeen thirty nine
For those older folks around, that's Brett Saberhagen in the
eighties for the Kansas City Royals, on again, off again.

(01:12:59):
In terms of performance for Rogers, the question becomes with
Jordy Nelson gone, Is Jimmy Graham showing up enough? Because
the rest of the wide receiver corps, you've got Adams
who has become a star, Randall Cobb, who we don't
know what he is at this point between injuries and
just inconsistent play. Wide receiver depth is an issue. As
much as we like the name of Geronimo Allen like

(01:13:20):
that just rolls off the tongue, but we wait and see.
So he's number four and then number five. I'm gonna
go with the up and coming Deshaun Watson just to
added Drew Brees on the list. Cam Newton again, I
expect the rushing numbers. Let's take a step back on
the trio of Smith, Samuel and Funches. Yes, greg Olson
returns to shoot the broadcast booth and big numbers there

(01:13:43):
for another season in the NFL. But Deshaun Watson seventeen
hundred yards, nineteen touchdown, eight interceptions, as well as almost
three hundred rushing yards before he got hurt. Hopkins Fuller,
Ellington Miller, Foreman, Sammy Coachs comes over. Maybe a reclamation
project from former the former pitch Burg Steeler, maybe some
opportunity there for him to break through. Fun looking for

(01:14:04):
him to put up big time numbers. Breeze comes in
in the number six. Old. I was going to say,
there are two names that we have seen near the
top a lot over the past few years. You touched
on Cam Newton. I'm not gonna include Cam in this,
but Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger, two older quarterbacks. Let's
just say, I know Roethlisberger's value isn't what it once was.

(01:14:27):
But Breeze not cracking the top five. Breeze twenty three touchdowns,
eight interceptions. A year ago yards he was ninth in
fantasy scoring. You look at what they pricked up Cam
Meredith that shown in spots for Chicago, but as he
really a breakthrough look. I love seeing Austin carr As
as one of the top guys as a slot receiver

(01:14:47):
on the depth chart former Northwestern Wildcats. So good to
see him in an option as an option for Drew
Breese who loves gonna distribute the ball as he does.
I'm just wondering if we haven't hit that tipping point
where the numbers are there overall in terms of yardage,
but that because of Ingram, because of Chimara on the ground,
that we don't have that big payday that we used

(01:15:08):
to from Drew Brees in terms of his overall numbers,
and that defense is better, so it's played a little
bit differently than it used to in New Orleans. I
also was going to ask you about Carson Wentz and
his injury. Is is he a top ten guy? Is
he a guy that you want to wait on? How
do you look at the Eagles signal caller coming back

(01:15:30):
from that knee injury. I've got him on the back
end of the top ten and he's one of those
guys that if you he's gonna be your QB one.
You're coming back and drafting that second guy a bit earlier.
Why because you've got to make sure your account for
the injury. You don't know how much you're gonna get
a fold. As many reports as you can tell me
that Wentz is gonna be ready for week one. It's
the old I'll believe it when I see it. In
terms of this, because there's no need to rush him back,

(01:15:53):
right he's your guy. You brought back Nick Foles, you're smart,
didn't take a bum trade for it to make sure
whence his health, So let him make sure he's fully recovered.
You're you have a lot of leash right now after
winning a super Bowl. There's no reason to rush him back. Uh.
And you mentioned Ben Roethlisberger before. We've got all the

(01:16:13):
the knucklehead effect and the question marks surrounding his skill
skilled position players, but also just the injury risk continues
to rise in terms of what we're getting from Roethlisberger.
Eventually those red I don't knows are going to turn
into not playing because we haven't had that. We've always
had Roethlisberger suits up and at some point the tipping

(01:16:35):
point happens there as well. And so for him. Another guy,
he's the top ten quarterback. When I'm coming back because
I know I'm missing at least two or three games.
He's Mike Carmen. I'm Dan Buyer, and we yes, we
have a Geronimo Allison reference already. And on Fox Sports
Sunday it is Fox Sports Sunday. Find us on Twitter.
I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox Get Mike at Swollen Dome.

(01:16:55):
So you think in all the World Cup, see how
well you know it next year on Fox Sports Sunday,
Fox Sports Sunday. At Fox Sports Radio, He's Mike Carmen.
I'm Dan Buyers. Will come to you live with the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Second match of the day
of the World Cup coming up on Foxes Japan takes
on Senegal. So why not get the family together and

(01:17:18):
I don't know beforehand, play the feud. Yeah, buddy, let's
get it on top eight answers on the board, Mike Carmen, Ryan,
Dennis sam Kinsley and Isaac loy Cron make up the
Fox family. As we want to know today the countries
that have won a World Cup. So there are eight
countries that have won a World Cup. We have three

(01:17:41):
strikes of passes available. If you don't know the answer,
you can use the past will reveal one answer, but
no one else than in the game is allowed to
use that pass. Let's start with Mike harmon the eight
countries that have won the World Cup. As I celebrated
the glory of the Harry Kane dominance today, I think
they put up that England was a winner fourteen times

(01:18:02):
on the graphic of Fox. Let's see if those three
lions are roaring, Yes they are. They do have a
World Cup win. Having a long time ago, I believe
so England is one of the eight countries to win
a World Cup. Over to Ryan Dennis, our executive producer,
Brazil's that's it's gotta be easy the chalk, Yeah, buddy.

(01:18:25):
Let's see if Ryan Dino is correct. Yes, there he
is number one answer with five World Cups. Over to
Sam Kinsley, the Wizard. Iowa Sam to quote the cone heads.
We come from France actual reference at this point. Let's

(01:18:46):
jump Let's see if the French invaded our top eight. Yes,
they have Frances there as well. One World Cup for
the French. Overdising Glow and Cross. Yes, I'm such a nerd.
I'm gonna give you the toughest one, Urdug. Look at you?
Are you correct? Yes? He is. Isaac knows this. Isaac

(01:19:07):
has got this thing rolling. No strikes so far. Back
over to Mike Harmon as we are four for four.
Reminder that the feud and Fox Sports Sunday brought you
by Geiko. What does it mean when Geico says just
fifteen minutes can save you or more on car in Shurts,
it means you probably should have gone to Geigo dot
com fifteen minutes ago. Dan, you were celebrating their win yesterday.
We're gonna go Germany. Their goods, all right, very good Germany.

(01:19:34):
Four World Cup crowns for the Germans. Five for five,
so Brazil, Germany, Uruguay, England and France so far on
the board. That leaves three remaining. No strikes. You guys,
are you? Guys are right now? I don't I don't
want to say it, but I'm going to say it.
You're in line for the perfect game. Perfect A perfect

(01:19:57):
game is intact. As we go over to Ryan Tennis,
our executive producers. Way to put the pressure on this one. Um,
Let's go with Italy. Italy and I think there was
a World Cup recently. Show me Italy. Yes, there, the
Italians are on the board with four World Cup titles.

(01:20:18):
Over to Sam Kinsley, two left six six so far
here on Fox Sports Sunday. Let's go with the most Well, no,
I'm sorry, two champions ago Spain in lifting the World Cups.
Show me no Spain, no gain, there is Spain. Seven

(01:20:40):
for seven. We go to Isaac Low and Kron. One
answer remaining, Isaac for the perfect game, no strikes, no
past used. The country that has not on our board
that is won a World Cup so far? Brazil, Germany, Italy, Uruguay, England,

(01:21:01):
France and Spain. Who are we missing? How about the
country that gave us the hand of God in na
Show me Argentina. Isaac Low and Cron. Yeah, you know,
without making fun of hand message, that's a perfect game.

(01:21:22):
They're mobbing, they're mombing, guys are glowing, crowd at the bound.
They have done it. The first perfect game in Fox
Sports Sunday history is no strikes, and no one said
the United States. Good job, very good job. This is
Fox Sports Sunday. So where is Lebron James headed. We've

(01:21:45):
got an idea next, getting you set for a Sunday,
this first official Sunday of summer. Glad to have you here.
Just underway on Fox Japan and Senegal, the second game
of today's action at the World Cup in Russia. NBA
free agency definitely likely to take an interesting turn. The

(01:22:06):
Lakers continue to be my Carmen the odds on favorite
to land Lebron James, and speaking of odds, that also
has the Lakers in the top five right now in
some spots of being a favorite to win the NBA
title next season. But July or June twenty nine, excuse me,
the day that the last day that we'll find out

(01:22:28):
if Lebron is going to opt in or opt out
of his contract. But now with the draft kind of
in the past, free agency, we knew that we knew
that there'd be some free agents out there, and we
expected certain guys to expect certain guys to opt out
of their contracts. Carmlo Anthony opting in with the Oklahoma
City Thunder, that wasn't a surprise. If he if he
had opted out, I'd bash him more than for anything

(01:22:51):
else he'd ever done, right, I mean, if you're gonna
leave that much money on the table at this stage
of your career. That would be one of the dopeier moves,
a great uh win for Oklahoma City if he had.
But certainly, you know anybody that's blasting in for for
any reason in terms of the opting in, it's like

(01:23:11):
you just don't. You don't get it, Like you've never
looked at your career, your job, your situation and recognized
what you have in terms of the free cash. At
this point, all those expectations of him are off, Like
he doesn't have those you gotta win that he had
six seven years ago when he went and took the
money to stay in New York when that contract was brokered.

(01:23:34):
That was his only time where there was pressure. Otherwise,
he's just a guy, go score, go give people a
couple of thrills and and move on. So he opts
into his contract that's gonna pay him almost twenty eight
million dollars next season for Oklahoma City. The opt in
and opt out expectations, as you mentioned, we expected Mellow
to opt in. We expect Lebron to opt out of

(01:23:56):
his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. And I just go
back to I go back to when he returned to
Cleveland that offseason. I go back to when he ended
up going to Miami the first time around. There are
a bunch of teams people want to throw around his possibilities.
I mean, odds were listed on eight teams, including the Cavaliers,
of teams that he is going to play for next year.

(01:24:18):
But but in my mind it is it's a two
horse race. The Rockets aren't gonna have enough money to
bring him in. Chris Paul's get that. That's what again,
But that's a whole You know, the Spurs are on
the verge of trading their best player. So why Lebron
then would go there to a weaker team just doesn't
make any sense. It's to team up with Kyrie again

(01:24:41):
in Boston just doesn't make any sense. It comes down
to and and this is what I felt is you know,
there there was there was talk about the Miami he
when before we knew like the super team, but he
was out there and Steven A. Smith, when he was
a member of this network, was the first report that
they were going to team up. And so the he
we're in the equation. That's my point. When Lebron was

(01:25:02):
thinking about leaving Miami and then went back to Cleveland,
New York, and l A weren't really options. It was
either stick with the Heat or go to the Cavaliers,
and that's what he ended up doing it going back home.
And that's what I feel this time around. It is
a two horse race. It's go to l A or
stay in Cleveland, and that's what I think we've got
entering entering Lebron decision contract wise this week. Yeah, to

(01:25:26):
clarify what I said about Chris Paul, Look, I'm up
for guys getting whatever they can, right that's the Carmelo Anthony,
take your money, and if Chris Paul thinks he's worth
forty five million dollars and someone's willing to give it
to him, have at it, have fun. But that's certainly
hamstrings the Rockets in terms of any leverage and any
communications they're having in terms there's too many dominoes that

(01:25:47):
have to fall to make that that work out. We
obviously know Paul and James their relationship. That's one of
the storylines that's floating in the background of what what
are the combinations of the super teams that flow and
try to compete with the Warriors, But certainly for Lebron James.
We're keeping an eye on all his wife's social media
accounts because she tipped us off last time with you know,

(01:26:09):
homecomings and a map of Akron and whatever Jason and
I did, we got no credit for it. When he
eventually signed there, uh, and that's fine and went home.
But we're on there and and having fun, you know,
doing the tracker of what she was posting. But you
look at Cleveland and the East, you know, you have
Boston and Philadelphia that you're looking at in theory are

(01:26:30):
the two teams in the East position for long runs
assuming health and Philadelphia in one or two more component parts.
And then Boston set up like a shark with teeth.
You know that that keep rising up whenever as someone
goes down with an injury or leaves. They've got more
assets than they know what to do with. So for
Lebron James, when you come to Los Angeles, you look

(01:26:52):
at the Lakers. I still like the Clipper option just
because they they jettison a ton of cash, right they
got rid of They still have the Andre Jordan's situation,
but otherwise you don't have anybody making any huge cash.
You got rid of Blake Griffin. You got rid of
Chris Paul. You could always bring Chris Paul back. I
don't know that there's a crimony between Steve Balmer and
him necessarily, especially just he had an opportunity to run

(01:27:14):
to Houston, and we talked earlier in the show. You
can find the podcast on iTunes. Give it five stars, Dan,
and I will love you forever. The fact is that
you know if you had a handshake agreement that was
gonna pay you out some massive cash in Houston. You
say that, and you save your ten percent on state tax,
So why not have at it? But for Lebron James

(01:27:35):
In Cleveland, you've got Kevin Love. You bring in Sexton
who's already lobbying, but you have some bad contracts that
he helped broker along the way. Right, So j R. Smith,
You've still got Tristan Thompson, who's an on again, off
again guy trying to figure out his relationship with Tylu
But with the Lakers, got a bunch of young, unproven talent,

(01:27:58):
and you have the Lonzo LaVar Ball saga that continues
as to whether he wants to come play. I mean
he brings a circus of his own. I don't think
he needs one that's already been well established and with
its own ringmasters. So there's all these different subplots to
it that make it fascinating. But I mean, he opts
out if nothing else, that he gets a raise. You

(01:28:20):
mentioned the Clippers, and the one point that I will
say with DeAndre Jordan, who's got a decision to make,
and there's some to think that he will opt in
and play with the Clippers next season. If you were
any of the teams that we're thinking about DeAndre Jordan
at the trade deadline and we're hesitant because of him
opting out, it seems to be a money thing. If
he opts back in that he's going to be able

(01:28:40):
to Like this twenty million dollars that he would make
is more than what he would get on the on
the free agent market. I think some teams would be
kicking themselves to think like, oh wow, we could have
had DeAndre Jordan for more than two months, and we
could ad him for a season and two months. Interesting
turn of events featuring the Clippers center, Well, you saw him.
He was at a wedding in Oklahoma. Right, it's based

(01:29:02):
on who's dating and whatever else. Uh, And or some
familiar relationship. I don't want to get it wrong, but
there was a photo of him sitting and just laughing
with a group of people. I was like, no, no, no,
he's he's there for some sort of you know events,
family and friends event and so it's not necessarily that
he's looking at Oklahoma City. But everybody gets excited look

(01:29:24):
to look where he is. Like people vacation and travel
all the time. Good God, like Paul George may end
up a Laker, right you're sitting there, Roberto, you come
in and he's got his Laker hat he's representing. But
the fact is just because he's at a target in
Los Angeles, he's lived here, or he's at Disneyland. You
know what, people go to Disneyland. It doesn't necessarily mean

(01:29:47):
oh he's here for sure. Still lots of decisions and
millions of dollars to be decided of where they get
doled out over the next week or two. He's my car,
but I'm Dan buyer a company, A life for the guy.

Ryan Dennis is our executive producer Technical producer Rob Flores.
And I will say this. I did not realize this
when I came to l A thirteen years ago, but
purple and gold do match with blue and white. And
I've noticed that a lot, because you've got the Lakers
and the Dodgers not color blind. They match. And I
got my Mexico T shirt underneath the geez what a green, white, purple, yellow?

(01:30:38):
And nobodyas here, but I think Lebron and Paul Georgia
come to the Lakers. It's a pretty near looking ahead.
It looks like it just got bought, maybe on the
way into or not. Kind of like Ryan Z, I'll
stop it. Alright, guys, alright, last last one here. We
heard earlier this week, we've been talking all about it

(01:31:00):
about Greg popovits fly in l A to try and
talk to Kauai Leonard. Apparently he hasn't been answering calls
of any or keeping any contact with the organization, so
it seems like he's made it pretty clear he's ready
to move on if Kauai is sending a clear message
that he has gone after next year. You know, what
are the Spurs waiting for? Shouldn't they trade him now

(01:31:21):
while he actually while they can actually get some compensation.
You know, wouldn't the worst thing be to let a
player like Kauai walk and not receive any compensation for
him whatsoever. Mike plenty of time to trade him. There
is the thing called the trade deadline. If he wants
to pout uh and be a petulant child, and they
can go down that route. I mean for the Spurs
at this point, you've got to figure out where the

(01:31:43):
maximizing of the deal is and and a lot of
it has to do also looking in those offices of
what Greg Popovich is looking to do. Right rumors a
week ago or thereabouts of when he's looking to step down.
R C. Buford making his public comments Dan and I uh.
Dan was in for Jason Smith on Friday. We use
Buford's comments on the draft after the draft was final.

(01:32:06):
I say, look, he's family, we want to figure this out.
It was a lot of speaking out of the side
of his mouth because I think he sees the writing
on the wall. But publicly, you're going to posture as
best you can. But you're trying to figure out where
that best deal is and you don't want to do
any favors to Western Conference rivals. But if that's the
best deal, that's the best deal, right Because the report

(01:32:26):
was that they shut the door quote unquote on the Lakers. Well,
what if that Lakers team brings comes back. If Popovich
has two or three years left, that makes you a contender.
What is it is brandon Ingram? We saw enough to
where maybe it is his body fills out, he can
become a better star, but he LaVar Ball's not going
to San Antonio. I mean I've said this before, like

(01:32:50):
those two aren't clashing, There aren't gonna mesh. Well, I
should say they'll be clashing time and again it went
to the band. Is that is that allowed? Is that allowed?
I didn't think the band. I thought the band would
keep playing. He beat the band. Sorry, I was watching
a goal, so I got distracted by the world. Well,

(01:33:12):
you know you gotta you gotta push back. Here's the
deal with the San Antonio Spurs that you have to
give them some leeway. And I do believe that Kauai
Leonard will be traded. But This is an organization that
really hasn't had to plan their future for twenty years
because of the pieces that they've had, whether it went
from David Robinson to Tim Duncan. Tim Duncan in that
core with Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli and guess what,

(01:33:35):
then Kauai slips in and you have Kauai there as
Tim Duncan moves aside. Now all of a sudden, sure
you brought in the Marquis Aldridge, but Kauai was still
your your your main guy. So this is an organization
that has just been adding pieces to a core for
twenty years. So for the first time now they've got
to figure out what direction do we go? How do

(01:33:55):
we put this together? So you've got to give them
some leeway when it comes to Kawuai Leonard. I think
that when they had the meaning on Tuesday, they finally
got their official notice that, hey, this is likely not
going to be a situation that we can resolve because
last year, remember law Marcus Aldrids wanted out, a conversation
with Greg Papovitch turned everything around and la Marcus Aldridge

(01:34:15):
had his best season as a Spur. So you've got
to give san Antonio time to put together a deal
because they haven't been in the spot in twenty years.
He'll be traded, Just give him some time. Look at it,
he beat the band. I heard the horn section kicking in.
I really got distracted because there was an odd bounce
off the Japanese goalie. Thats Senegal bounced back on a putback,

(01:34:37):
So all of a sudden, whatever was going on music wise,
I was done. Yeah, I've nicely done. All right, Yeah,
you know what this one just because it's an interesting
thought where I like that. You know, the Spurs have
been building off of the same core kind of in
the last twenty years. It's an interesting thing to think about.
So Dan, I'm gonna go with you, all right. He

(01:34:59):
gets the next done. Yeah, it's it's just an interesting
dilemma right when you're looking at where Popovitch is in
his career and what you have in Kawai Leonard, the
mistrust and whatever. Look because Parker and Genobley, for all
intensive purposes, are done. So whatever barking they were doing,
unless you're convinced it came from Popovitch and Buford in
the media when they were talking about injuries and how

(01:35:22):
they were because Popovitch is gonna say I want my
guys on the court. Yeah, I don't think he said
anything wrong or inappropriate talk to him because he's not around,
because that was the other thing I mean. And you
talk about it as a shot if you will, If
you're a superstar of a team, you should still be
around the team. You don't disappear right at least where
the suit and show up and support your guys. So

(01:35:43):
you know, in that respect, he was a bad teammate
and it was a bad look on him, So you know,
giving him the full benefit of the doubt in terms
of going and finding his second second, opinions on his
leg or whatever else you do to a point. But
then in the end you still gotta be there or
come playoff time and support the run and and nothing else.

(01:36:04):
Do not ask people start asking questions about Kawhi Leonard
that they never had to. We don't know anything about
this guy. He's not an outward, outgoing guy. You know,
you and I joked other than them showing up in
some some rap videos like if we if we went
and you you gave me four superstars to say pick
his voice, I don't know it I mean, I we

(01:36:25):
do this from living and we listened to a lot
of audio. I couldn't pick Kawai Leonards voice out. We
just haven't heard him a lot and and speaking, and
even here it's all attributed to some uncle and and
people around him in terms of how the message is
being put across to the spurs. So lots of questions,
but you obviously want to find your best package, so

(01:36:46):
you don't give up too fast. He's Bi Carbon I'm

(01:37:31):
know what will be happening this week. We're gonna dive
in and just a check with the draft. Uh now
in our rear view mirror, just to put maybe a
bow quickly on just what we saw on Thursday night. Uh,
thumbs up for thumbs down for you for NBA draft.
I just think there's too much invested in the free
agent market. Right. Even in the Lakers coverage here locally

(01:37:54):
in Los Angeles, it wasn't as much about hey, here's
introducing the new guys, like here's how they'll fit if
Ron James comes here, right, and so that's it. It
dwarfs everything that's actually going on with the draft. Joining
us now to talk NBA. He's a topologist for Basketball Insider,
so you'm on NBA TV and also the lead Lakers
writer for Bleacher Report. Eric Pinkis is up with us today. Hello, Eric,

(01:38:16):
how you doing? I'm not doing great things from me.
Let's uh, let's just start out with this this one.
Because we were just talking Kauai, we were just talking Lebron,
we were just talking Lakers. If you had to pick
one or the other more likely to be in a
Lakers uniform next year, Lebron or Kawai, who would you pick? Well,
Lebron can make that decision, but ko I can't. So

(01:38:36):
I think it's it's clearly Lebron. Now he may not
choose to come, but if he does, the Lakers have
the room and they can just pay him and sign
a contract. Whereas you're asking, will the Spurs trade Kauhi
Leonard to the Lakers? Who that's a rival team that's
they've got basically a player from their point of view
who doesn't want to play. Is not being reasonable and

(01:38:58):
now they that guy wants them to just send them
to their rival in the West. It doesn't make sense
to them. Now, Ultimately, he may have that leverage because
he can be a free agent next year. So if
let's say the Celtics offer a really nice package, he
can say, well, thank you, I'm flattered. But if you
trade for me, I'm leaving in a year and I'm
gonna go sign with Lakers. And you can bet that

(01:39:20):
Danny Angels are gonna give as much if that happens.
So I don't know how much of a bad guy here,
while Leonard wants to be and that if the Lakers
are the only team he'll go to, which is an
assumption that may not even be true. So we're gonna
have to wait and see. But clearly it's Lebron because
all you have to do is say yeah, I'm going
to Lakers and it's done. What do they do with
Julius Randall? He's one of the more intriguing guys because

(01:39:43):
he seems to be of all those assets that the
Lakers have in their possession, at least at the moment,
the formed guy. You may not be the superstar material
are gonna give you on any given night, but I'll
take a guy who's a double double machine when he's
in the right frame of mind. I he was great
last season. I thought, probably at a time, who's in

(01:40:04):
the right frame of mind? Which was a huge jump
I thought. I really thought the issue for him was focus,
uh in previous years. But I realized because he put
in so much work last year to get in just
tremendous shape, he was losing focus because he just didn't
have the breath. I mean, he wasn't in this kind
of shape he needed to be in to play at
the level he wanted, and last year we saw that,

(01:40:24):
and yeah, there's gonna be times he's gonna go out
of control with the ball and do a little too much.
But he's a really powerful player. And as a free agent,
he'll be restricted and he'll take up about twelve and
a half million dollars of their space. Unsigned that's the
way it works. So they have his rights and they
can pay him up to the max for him, it's
twenty five million dollars, but he's going to take up

(01:40:47):
that twelve and a half and then after they spend,
if they say a lot that twelve and a half,
then they can pay him more. So the question that
becomes are they getting notches Lebron if he's coming, but
are they also getting someone like Paul George? And then
it becomes problematic because they don't have the room to
pay those two stars the max and then also that
twelve and a half to Randall. So the the answer

(01:41:11):
is to trade Louiell Dangy find it, which it sounds difficult,
but you know, Tim Maskov just got traded. You know,
it happens, and there are teams that are below the
minimum salary that are going to be obligated to pay
up to ninety million dollars anyway. And if if these
teams aren't worried about winning right now, which you know
there's always at least four or five to ten teams

(01:41:33):
that really aren't focused on winning at the start of
the season, is usually five and halfway by the trade deadline,
there's a good even more so, uh, if you can
trade away draft picks. I know that the Lakers have
a number of young players that teams like a lot,
Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, even Josh Hard to
a degree that would love to get those young players

(01:41:54):
because those guys are really hard to find. And if
the Lakers are willing to sacrifice someone like Brandon Ingram
for Julius Randall, I don't know if that makes as
much sense. But if you're trading away a couple of
first rounders down the road, and the Lakers expect to
be somewhere in the neighborhood of you know, thirty in

(01:42:15):
terms of the draft, because they're a good team. If
you can give up two of those players, not neither
of those two are probably going to be as good
as Julius Randalls. So if they can find a team
that is willing to take on picks, you trade away
the little dang with that, Now you've got enough room
for Randall, Paul George, and Lebron James. It's assuming a lot,
but I didn't think that Katie was going to go

(01:42:38):
to the Warriors and that happened, So I don't want
to throw out any ideas too far fetched at this
point if it's got some basketball sense behind it. The
Bleacher Report basketball insiders at NBA TV Eric Pinkers joining
us here on Fox Sports Sunday. He's my Carmen, I'm
Dan Buyer. What about the l A Clippers, Because I
would say around the trade headline would just assume DeAndre

(01:42:58):
Jordan would end up opting out of his contract, being
a free agent and maybe going to play somewhere else
if he was then traded to to another team. What
about the Clippers situation and how realistic is it for
any of the big names to be in a Clippers
uniform next year? Well, the the challenge there is that
they don't really have the cap room, and there was
a path to it. If Austin Rivers and DeAndre Jordans

(01:43:21):
had opted out, but Austin just opted in the other day. Uh.
And they're just not going to have the kind of
money that they need to go shopping. But that doesn't
mean that they can't be a part of this um.
They had two assets that I thought I had a
shot at letting them Kauai in the twelve and thirteen
pick in the draft the other day, and then they

(01:43:41):
also have Tobias Harris, and so a combination of those
three pieces I thought was an interesting opportunity. But the
Spurs weren't interested, and so that for now took them
out of the running for Kauai. They don't have the
money to pay Lebron or Paul George. Really, what it
looks like is happening is that their same in their
bullets for next next year nineteen when there's a lot

(01:44:04):
of really good free agents. Kyrie Irving and Kawhi Leonard
will be free agent then if assuming he doesn't get
traded and extend somewhere. Uh. And then there's Kemba Walker,
There's Clay Thompson, a lot of k names, Kevin Love uh,
Chris Middleton also a case is it's and then Jimmy
Butler and okay, but maybe I don't know what's his
middle name? Maybe? Well, well, the Clippers can also trade.

(01:44:30):
They still can trade. They don't have as much as
they had before the draft. It's like a car, you know,
when you buy it, drive it off a lot, it's
not worth as much. Uh. They someone would have to
a team would have to love the guys specifically that
they got in the draft. Uh. They got Shay Gilgis
Alexander Uh and who was Who's got a guy? Jerome

(01:44:53):
Robinson or no, it was the other guy? Was the
other guy. I'm still trying to catch up the draft itself.
Doing the show friend Ba TV. I was working so
much doing the actual production of the show that you
kind of like loose track of Well, sure you're in
a different world, right because you got a lot of
voices dancing in your head. Now, I go, Uh, the

(01:45:15):
Clippers have pieces, but I don't know if they have
what it takes right now to push them into the
conversation the movie envelope right now. But DeAndre could be
traded if he opts in. So there there are pieces
that they have. It just depends on what they're ready
to do. Jerome Robinson at thirteen Jimmy Butler, according to Wikipedia,
has no middle name. He's just Jimmy Bummler third, So

(01:45:36):
he breaks our street. Was there anything that happened during
the draft itself that made you feel like there was
an invisible hand helping to guide the pics that might
inform our free agent world? Oh gosh, that might impact
free agency. I don't know. I mean what I was
looking for. We're like, there were no player trades. Uh,

(01:45:57):
there were. There were a lot of picks traded, and
that that's a big part of why I'm I'm actually
with the NBA TV team is to break down why
moves are made and when there are no moves made,
I'm kind of like, you know, don't don't ask me
for I don't know who these kids. I don't I
watch college like you know, around the tournament. It's not
really my expertise, and that's not why they have me

(01:46:19):
so for for actual on air stuff. I didn't have
to deal with a lot of that because there were
no player trades. And so since there's no player trade,
that's what I'm looking for. It there you didn't see. Okay,
this team better positioned themselves to make a run here,
but a lot was done at the trade deadline. I
mean Lakers made their move, and the Rockets and the

(01:46:41):
Spurs and some of the other teams that were dark
horses for Lebron. It's a really tricky path for them
to get Lebron and and the Sixers. They can make
a move. They only have to move Jared bayliss Uh
to a team similar like Little Dang and he doesn't
have his bad contract, and they can have enough room
for Lebron. So there's most of what needs to happen
needs to happen in July to go after someone like Lebron.

(01:47:03):
And really there's Paul George, and I think most people
in the NBA believe that Paul George is either staying
in Oklahoma City or going to the Lakers. And since
Cousins and to Marcus Cousins is getting over an injury
and DeAndre Jordan has an opted in and out. Yet uh,
Like you go down that list, by the time it's
like about eight or six on their free agent list,

(01:47:25):
it becomes a little hazier. I mean, there's some good
restrictive free agents like Julius randall Aier and Gordon zach Lavine.
There's there's more leaving out of few, but it's not
like a huge free agent class other than the top
of it, and so I don't know if anything in
the draft really impacted that specifically. I mean, it's easy
to look at who the Lakers took in and m

(01:47:47):
Wagner and say, yeah, he'd fit well with Lebron, but
Lebron has to come for that to matter. He's Eric Binkas.
That's two cees. Eric with the C, Pinks with a C.
That's where you can find him on Twitter covering the
NBA for Bleacher Report, NBA TV and Basketball in Centers.
Should be an amazing couple of weeks, Eric, We appreciate
the time, and yeah, I enjoy the ride. Yeah, I

(01:48:09):
look forward to to July. Get some answers here because
I've been writing on the same topic now for about
two years. Be good, We'll see you later. Thank you.
He's my carbon. I'm Dan Bio. This is Fox Sports Sunday.
Dwyane Wade is accomplished a ton in his NBA career,
but his final accomplishment maybe writing one of the biggest

(01:48:29):
wrongs in NBA history. Will explain after Isaac Lowenkron gives
us the latest of what's happening at the World Cup.
Perfect timing, damn, because the latest is Japan has just
scored in the thirty fourth minute seconds ago, so they
are tied one one with Senegal, which struck first on
this goal in the twelve minute typical header given away,
Chaps hair will be it is Senegal, it does go

(01:48:54):
in seal in a twelve minute is grabbed the open,
but their lead has now gone thanks to Japan tying
the score again just seconds ago. So it is Japan one,
Senegal one in the thirty fourth minute. In a battle
of Group H leaders. Earlier today, England defeated Panama six
to one, led by a Harry Kane hat trick. Kane

(01:49:17):
with five goals in two games, the most in this
year's World Cup. John Stone scored two goals and Jesse
Lingard had the other. Coming up a two pm Eastern
on Fox, Columbia takes on Poland. Finally, in baseball Saturday night,
Matt Kemp hit a pinch hit Grand Slam and the
Dodgers eight three win over the Mets that featured the
return of Clayton Kershaw came off the disabled list after

(01:49:40):
missing three weeks with a lower backstreen Kershawn went three innings,
allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. On
the other side, the Mets, as Dan and Michael were
discussing earlier, have now lost twelve of thirteen at home,
leading to what I thought was a clever headline in
this morning's New York Post. They termed it text in

(01:50:01):
the city with city here spelled C I T I.
Well done, New York Post. Dan and Michael, thank you
very much. Isaac. We're company life with the Geico Fox
Sports radio studios. It's easy to say fift cent tomorrow
on Cornentrance with Geico, go to Geico, do Comic Colleague
hundred nine for seven Auto. The only hard part figuring
out which way is easier? It is Fox Sports Sunday.
He's Mike Carmen, I'm Dan Buyer reaches on Twitter. I'm

(01:50:24):
at Dan Buyer on Fox, Mike, they can get you.
Dwyane Wade is we know for sure in the twilight
of his NBA career where his career goes from here?
After season number fifteen? Who knows? Who knows what Dwyane
Wade is gonna have in the immediate future of of
his playing career, but he's starting to look ahead to
what could be after his playing days, like like any

(01:50:46):
athlete in their in their final years of her career
should be. And when speaking with The Washington Post, Wade
made some interesting comments when asked about NBA ownership and
when he was asked about if he wants to be
at an NBA ownership group someday, is response was this,
I want Seattle's team, the Sonics, to come back. I

(01:51:08):
think Seattle is a great basketball town. I would love
to be a part of that end quote. Such an
an interesting comment, but what it tells me, Mike, is
that Dwyane Wade has his hand on the pulse of
the n b A and understands. And it's not just
I want to be a part of any team or

(01:51:29):
I want to let you on with this billionaire so
we can own whatever team in the NBA. To specifically
say I want to be a part of bringing Seattle
back to the NBA. I think it's pretty cool and
I think that it's it's something that would obviously right
or wrong, that was done more than ten years ago. Yeah,
I like the specificity of it, not just a nebulous

(01:51:50):
yeah that'd be nice. You know, that'd be kind of cool.
Let's figure that out and and all those things that
we normally hear out of athletes. Here's a very specific
he was in the league when it happened, right, that
was our already part of the NBA, and now he
was on with Chris Mannox and Karen Butler two weeks ago.
I think it was talking about his future and trying

(01:52:11):
to determine whether he comes back for another year and
what that would look like. He does you looking at
career earnings, Christ and Karen coming up in about twenty
minutes here on Fox Sports Radio that you look at
career earnings about two million dollars plus whatever endorsements, plus
his wife, Gabrielle Union has done quite well in her
acting career, a nice long career with a number of

(01:52:32):
big movie roles and TV roles, etcetera. So it add
that with some compounded interest and you've got enough to
buy a decent steak into steak uh into a team
along the way. So we we look at the the
Sonics and most that followed the NBA still salty that

(01:52:53):
that occurred. A lot of folks that wondering if hey
is that the thing that if he they could get
that greenlit and fast track, that Kevin Durant could go
back and right that wrong and he could be that
guy again in Seattle. But but either way, you know,
when we look at the NBA and the global growth now,
we still have the problem of parody not being a

(01:53:13):
realistic thing. At this point, we have our top heavy
you know who's going to win now, I mean, look
at the odds even as we speak, with free agency looming,
you have three or four teams and everybody else as
it goes. And that's the way it's been year after year.
But to get Seattle back on the map, much like
in baseball they're looking at Montreal, would be an exciting thing.

(01:53:34):
I like Seattle for so many reasons, and I like
that Dwayne Wade is thinking like this, Mike, because this
is the conversation we have of bringing a World Series
to Chicago as a member of the Cubs and and
what that team will always be known for and what
they so for Dwayne Wade to have the wherewithal to
be like, I want to be attached to that, and honestly, Mike,

(01:53:57):
when they left ten years ago, and it's a when
you look back at what the NBA was ten years
ago to what it is now. Seattle is the perfect
city for the NBA, like it like to me of
of where the NBA was teen years ago and where
it is now and how the league I just feel
as hip. I think it's it's it's new, it's got

(01:54:18):
such a different feel that Seattle fits in so well
for all of the And that's not even talking about
all of the other reasons of the team not being
there in the fan base that that wanted it there.
They're obviously renovating Key Arena and and I hope to
bring an NHL team there in the near future as well.
But I just look at Seattle, of all the sports,

(01:54:38):
as the city that I would like to see get
a team like I would like to see. I'd like
to see Portland, Oregon get a Major League Baseball team,
just because I think it would be unique. But it's
also putting more teams on the West Coast, where we've
talked about the NBA as it's situated right now with
the realignment, half the teams that end up making the
playoffs or all the playoffs are all in the Central
time zone anyway, so so you to add more teams

(01:55:01):
out on the West coast that they could only be good,
get a little bit more balanced, and certainly bring back
one of the great brands that we used to have.
Let me come on, those logos were awesome when Sean
Kemp was stalking the lane. I want to see that again.
The the uniform. So I think a little left to
be desired. How dare you? I just I just yeah,

(01:55:21):
I wasn't, you know, totally down. Well maybe just the
come on, you complimented his brand new Laker hat a
little while ago. Maybe that, you know, I'll take that back.
That Sonics wrap are on the is somewhat skyline, yeah, space,
I mean, come on, I mean outside of the Packers
and the Edmonton Eskimos in the Oakland A's, you don't

(01:55:43):
have a lot of green and yellow. You got an
Edmonton Eskimos right on. Someone was watching the CFL on
Friday night. Someone might have had a bet on. I'm
not that I'm not that ridiculous. He's my carvent. I'm
Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Sunday Company Alive for
the guy go Fox Sports Radio Studios and coming up next,

(01:56:04):
Harmon's got something cooking I'll tell you about it here
on Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Sunday at Fox Sports Radio,
I'm Dan Buyer. Mike Carmen is here as well. We've
got a competitive game in the World Cup today, finally. Yeah,
after England roled Panama six one, Senegal in Japan tied
up at one a piece as they are at the half.

(01:56:26):
You can see the second half on Fox. That's also
where you can see Poland and Columbia a bit later
on today. I gotta started singing in my head the
song Ricochet by iced Tea, repeatedly off that Senegal goal.
You get hit by the ricochet. I don't know, line,
just stuck in my head. That's not bad. That's not bad.
When it comes to to iced Tea, I just always

(01:56:47):
always uh, new Jack Jack, new Jack. Yeah, that's that's
usually a pops into my head. Either that or you
go to body Count if you want a little bit
of metal. That was a couple of popular problems in
my house with my dad being a city a couple year.
They go still on tour, still getting it done when
he's not. In the twenty ninth season of SVU, He's

(01:57:10):
my carbon I'm Dan Bayer. That was the voice of
Ryan Dennis, our executive producer that you'll hear from in
a little bit as we parlay all the time. But
first we gotta dig into Mike Harmon's bag of fun.
As what we got a little we got a little
alcohol and a little headball coach. Yeah, as the Afghan
wigs saying, don't forget the alcohol. Who baby who? Maybe

(01:57:31):
thousands of whiskey barrels crashed into a massive heap Friday
at the Barton Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Eighteen thousand barrels
as part of this distillery in their warehouse, and up
to half of them sustained damage as part of the collapse.

(01:57:52):
No cause had been determined. Nobody was injured. But still
you're looking that the brand losing a lot of its inventory.
That's a that's a lot of bourbon, uh, and a
lot of sad drinkers out there. Hey, you know you
lose half your inventory, just double the price. That's how
you make it up. Just make it. That's what happens. Hey,
I've heard. Hey, it's a bad it's a bad summer.

(01:58:13):
Corn is going to be more expensive, all right, I
guess that's the way it is. The distillery began. It's
a normal season shut down for repairs and maintenance last week,
so it's not gonna affect production once it's summer shut
down ends. However, the distilleries near a waterway and they
were checking as to whether any whiskey had filled into it.
Initial water samples showed no signs of contamination. But think

(01:58:35):
about this, you know, Mary, Mary Anne and I were
talking about this yesterday as this story developed. Of think
about it. You have a nice, big leader of water
on your way into work, right, you fill it and
you get pulled over. Really, I'm just drinking water. It's
straight from the tap. Unless it was, and hey, great news.
There's a quick way you could say, Monty, you could
switch to Geico. Go to Geico dot com and in

(01:58:57):
fifteen minutes you can say or more on car insurance.
The other story comes from well the Alliance of American Football,
where Steve Spurrier is going back to coaching in he'll
be leading the Orlando team in the new League. And
he was on the Paul Fine Bomb Show. He said, quote,
I told Tim Tebow that for some reason his baseball
career doesn't work out. We have a number fifteen down

(01:59:19):
in Orlando waiting form well sixty one games double a
Bingington this season to for home run twenty three r B.
I said he's not ready to give it up yet.
Sandy Oliver send, the Mets general manager. He's made public
comments that he believes that he's eventually going to make
the major leagues. They need to sell tickets, especially when
you lose twelve of thirteen at home and stink out loud.

(01:59:42):
So perhaps Tim tebow is still do the major leagues,
But don't rule out I mean, that's that's a whole
year away. And there's a big misconception that I think
that I need to clear up. It may seem that
Steve Spurrier loves quarterbacks. No, Steve Spurrier only loves quarterbacks
named Dandy werfel Is. Otherwise, if you look at the history,
then there is you know, it is a what have

(02:00:05):
you done for me lately? And even sometimes that doesn't
even work. That is why Carmen's bag of fun. You know,
I had fun last week when I was at the
US Open getting ready for the final round at Shinka Kills.
Did you get to the merch tent before they sold out? Dan? Yes,
and I By the way, I have no problem with
the merchandise tent selling out. I know some people did.

(02:00:25):
The merchandise tent is actually open before the tournament. If
you have a Sunday ticket, you can't expect to go
in and see a full store. It's just you have
to realize. So the people who are being critical, yeah,
hat sell out. What are they gonna do keep ten thousands?
So then you have to sell them half price. No,
I think you should have bought extra hats and standing
outside the store to disappointed patrons. Oh that I could

(02:00:48):
have doubled the price there. But Brooks Cup, I'm sure
it was partying all the time after his win last week.
Let's see how we did in Parlay. All the time, Ryan, Dennis,
my Carmen and myself made predictions on these three things.
Who would win the US Open as it was the
end of the third round, who would be the first
pick in the NBA Draft. It was DeAndre Ayton and
the winner of the Nigeria Iceland match that took place

(02:01:08):
on Friday, which ended up being Nigeria. How did we
do a week ago? I'm going Dustin Johnson today. DeAndre
Ayton the number one overall and let's go with Iceland.
Give me Hendrick Stenson, give me Marvin Bagley, They give
me Iceland. Hey oh for three? Uh? Patrick Reid rallies
eighton is gonna be number one, and I'm gonna go

(02:01:31):
with Nigeria to win. On Patrick Reid made a push. Okay, guys,
Well Lebron James opt out of his Cavaliers contract this week. Well,
Tiger Woods make the cut next week at the Quicken
Loans National. And does Argentina make the round of sixteen
at the World Cup. Let's make our picks now, Ryan Dennis,
you're up first. I'm going to full sweep this week, guys,

(02:01:52):
so yes on all of those nicely done. I'm gonna
take Uh. Lebron opts out, Tiger does not make the cut. Argentine,
you know, left out and Messy feels the heat. I
will say that Lebron does opt out of his contract,
Tiger Woods will not. No, Tiger Woods will make the
cut next week at the Quickenlans National. I don't want

(02:02:13):
to root against Tiger Woods. So Tiger Woods will make
the cut next week at the Quickenlans National. Does Argentina
make the round of sixteen at the World Cup. They
got a big break with Nigeria topping Iceland on Friday,
the game that we predicted a week ago. I say yes,
Argentina does make it to the knockout. Hey couldn't be

(02:02:35):
as messy as the first match.
