Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hey, major trade wins are blowing in two major sports today.
Plus you got two dudes who I think probably spent
a good portion of the morning trying to figure out
how to kind of lick wounds if you are indeed
pulling for the Pacers in these NBA Finals.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
That game on Friday night was a tough one, but we.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Still get to breathe a little bit little room before
Game five tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
And there was no.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Question what the first words out of my mouth were
going to be to my partner tonight. No matter what
the hell's going on in sports, no matter what's going
on in life, I'll look right at this man and say, dude,
happy Father's Day.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
I'm tired.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Happy Father's Day, man, because I know your man earns
that every day.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Hey man, look, look I got a bone to pick
with holidays. Okay, do it?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Do it? Because I know I know.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Look, we cherished and we revere Mother's Day like no
one's business. Matter of fact, we start preparing for Mother's
Day after Valentine's.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
I'm already getting ready for next year now, right.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Like, so soon as Valentine's Day is over, it's Mother's
Day and bombardment and we're still you know, a few
months out. I just started seeing five. I forgot it
was Father's Day. This weekend. I saw a commercial like
eight days ago for the first time for Father's Day.
But I say that to say I love being a
(01:38):
dad and although people don't celebrate it quite like they
do Mother's Day, Okay, I get it. And no, we
don't want tools and socks, Okay, yeah, right, we want
a brunch. I would love a Father's Day brunch. Wouldn't
that be great?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Brother? I'm like, I don't even want and I hope I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Not not offered anywhere. Yeah, like you know, four Seasons
has a I'm telling them about a miraculous Mother's Day brunch.
There is no Father's Day.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
You want to know Father's Day. You want to know
what my mile klan brought me today. They brought me
a box of donuts. And I was told and that's great.
I'm super thankful. I'm told the donut place was jammed.
I'm told that the coffee place was jammed. Because that's
literally it, that's it, that's all anybody knows about, the dude,
(02:32):
and it's partially our fault. Because a lot of us,
maybe not the people who are on the radio, but
a lot of us don't speak.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
A lot we don't tell, We don't call for them,
you know what I mean? We do not. Today is quiet,
and then we let it be quiet.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
We don't make a big fuss about the fact that
it's quiet, and that nobody nobody asked if I wanted
to go to the spot for the whole day and
not have to talk to anyone or do Nobody asked.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Nobody asked. Nobody even thought that that was the thing.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
And the reason they didn't think it was the thing
is because I probably wouldn't do that. I probably would
feel weird about that, And I'm not gonna make a
stink about the fact that I didn't. I'm here, I'm working.
We are once again providing for our families. Even on
fathers We do, man, no doubt what we're doing. Scott
(03:28):
didn't call us and be like, hey, guys, it's Father's Day.
We're gonna let Monsey take over, right, the women of
Fox Sports Radio takeover today.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
All of you guys are off. Yeah, Monsey and Mary
are carrying the show.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Not only he.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Didn't do that, and he didn't even call and be
like are you good? Like there was nothing nothing. Our
producer and did start our text threat today by saying
happy Father's Day.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
He too young, he could be one of our kids.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
That's true too, that's true too. He probably scared of us.
That's all that that was.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
But no, I had to say it to my dad,
so it was fresh.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
How is your dad he? And how old is your dad?
Speaker 1 (04:11):
He is sixty?
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Got us, got us by a lot high school? You No,
he didn't just playing. I say this to say, now,
how did you spend your father's that you just woke up?
Speaker 3 (04:25):
He had the donuts and that was it. I mean, so, uh,
the donuts.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
There were some presents, presents, There were presents, but they're
always like that's always, and I hate doing this because
the kids are so thoughtful.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
But you're like, it's kind of a it's a mixed feeling,
you know this.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
It's a mixed feeling because you're like you open it
up and you're like, that is so nice of you
and you cannot afford that.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
And I probably bought.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Bought that for me.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
I bought that for me, so thank you for buying
me something with the money that I gave you.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
So there.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
You want to know how I spent my Father's Day,
how'd you do it? Waking up in a hotel next
to my ten year old okay, at eight o'clock this morning,
and getting him up and awake and getting him breakfast.
(05:27):
I snuck a coffee for myself, good, good job, and
drove him over to the gym we had been at
for the last three days. The National Coca Cola AAU
Tournament is this weekend. Started Friday night, had two games
on Friday nights, had four games yesterday, had another four
(05:54):
games today. And then my wife and my oldest and
my mother in law met us at the game at
the ten o'clock game, and then they gave me cards,
and then we watched the basketball games and then I
(06:15):
had to drive in traffic from Anaheim to get to
work in time.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Happy Father's Day, Happy Father's Day. Happy father's Day.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Mind you, the whole gym was full of fathers, of course,
Father's Day once again. No Mother's Day tournaments though, No, no, no, no,
can't play on Mother's Day.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
No, we had practice on Mother's Day and that's second.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
What oh yeah, no, no, no, we got.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Canceled and I called the coach and I said, good move.
That's a good move because our practice slot was nine
in the morning. That's probably Mother's Day hours. If the
kid is practice at nine o'clock on Mother's Day, we.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Have a problem. We have a problem. We have a problem.
But not today.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
No, No, we had a gym full. I'm talking about
it's like a thousand teams in the tournament. It's a
big tournament. And my son was playing ten u in
eleven u, so that he had double double duty games.
And it's just, you know, another day in fatherhood.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Yep. No, I hope you had some smiles in there somewhere.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I went on a hike with my lovely lady and
we got a little workout in and we took the
dog to the park. And usually for most of the
part of the time with the dog at the park,
the dog was chasing the ball and I was telling
two of my kids to stop bickering with each other.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
And then I went to the grocery store and now
I'm here.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
You'll make dinner tonight for everyone I know.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Shout out again to me girl.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
My lovely lady actually just delivered dinner prior to the
show because because she is wonderful and she is also
a MOhm and so she knows she gets it.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Father's Day is the only holiday where you give someone
a gift for them to work. On the holiday, you're
going to give them a wrench. Oh, I gets set.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
The toolset is the most gift that But no.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Not only that, we're gonna get you the barbecue grill
with all the fixings, and you can barbecue tonight because
we know how much you love to do it.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
And here's a tie that you can wear next year
on Mother's Day when you go to brunch.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Look at us just boohoo and just sour milk all
over the place. Anyway, have me Father's Day, man, because
I know, I know you're a real, real good one,
and I'm trying to be. Some days I wake up,
I'm like, I don't know if I was a good
one this weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
I told you, good lord, it's the greatest job. It's
the hardest job. It's the greatest job. And every night
I told you this a few weeks ago, every night
when you go to bed, I'm like, I'm gonna try
to do better tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
I literally that didn't that didn't end up going well.
I literally told my ten year old sometime this weekend day, man,
this might not be for you, but anyway, that's my
that's my Father's Day story. Man. Hey, bro, hey, the
(09:14):
other stuff you can do. It don't have to be basketball,
and this might not be for you.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
You know, you know there's a lot there's a lot
of things you could do. There's a lot of things
he could.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Bless him, you know, he's trying his hardest, man, trying
to figure it out.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
As long as we're still having some laughs and let
me throw this out there, like, I don't know what
was your experience, especially youth sports wise.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
I didn't have any yet, none, not one youth sport
if you count high school freshmanion in high schools when
I started playing sports. So I'm trying to my wife
is like, maybe you didn't do this, so you don't.
I'm like, yeah, but he's good and he's not playing good,
so I mean, what do I do? Am I okay
with him turning the ball over and he doesn't have
(09:58):
to he's just like, hey, he's and forget about it.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
For Father's Day, we're gonna ask you to try. We'd
like you to try.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
I did, and I didn't. You know, I didn't have
anything to say to him.
Speaker 6 (10:09):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
I don't want to get into it. I don't want
to embarrass my ten year old.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
And well he's not listening.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
The traffic coming back from Anaheim and I'm like, oh no,
I almost took the one on one a protest and
I was like, oh Jesus, ye oh yeah, been three
hours in traffic trying to get back to get on
the ready to work, to work.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Work.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Then again, our work sometimes ends up in air quotes,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Cause like we're just sitting here hanging out.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
We are hanging out, Dodgers are playing. Yep.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Right, Steve de Seger's in the building. I can't wait
for h twenty minutes from now. We're gonna get him
in on the action. And this it's been a it's
been an interesting day. It's been an interesting day to
two pretty damn big trades. We have a major tournament
coming down the stretch that I would like to I think, criticize.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
I think I would I would like to do that.
So we've got that.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
We had epic performance from from Caitlin Clark just yesterday.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
So you know. I'm sorry. I didn't see any of that.
I've been in the gym for nine you haven't. I
know you haven't for the last a day, for the
last three days. Is out of control.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
You've been fothering.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Hey, how do you have a game at eight in,
then four and then eight? Oh that's not a good schedule.
What is happening right now?
Speaker 3 (11:39):
The eight and to ten I can get down with.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Then you get a little break where usually at least
see now it's different. I don't want to pay it
with a broad brush. I don't know what the ten
year old boy asked for when you have that big break.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
But it's nothing like he would normally want to go
get in a swimming pool.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Right right, No, man, you can't go get in the pool.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
You have to be ready to play again in six hours.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Right right, Well, there's time there for go swim.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
No. No, Why so you want to take swimming legs
to the national tournament?
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Okay, that's fair, that's what you want to do. That's fair.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
No.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
When I see those, because my daughter plays soccer, when
I go on those tournaments and we look at the schedule,
the first thing I.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Look for is that gap.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
That gap because that gap can cost hundreds of dollars, yes.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Or it can cost forty.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
If you're like, we're done at eleven and we play
again at two, We're good here.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
I'm gonna go buy you lunch.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
If that next game doesn't start till four, I'm apparently
buying you a new wardrobe. This is how this is all.
It's the first thing they look at too. They don't
care about the games. They're like, Okay, where is the
gap and how far is them all from the field.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
That's the only thing that happens when those tournaments go out.
Happy Father's Day.
Speaker 2 (13:05):

So JP Morosi Baseball analyst extraordinaire across many platforms including
MLB Networks, going to join us at about ten minutes.
Got major breaking news just before the show. Rafael Devers
(14:18):
to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster deal. Devers
and the Socks have been at odds a little bit
throughout the year, and so it's a massive contract.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
This is not your normal deadline, like, oh, it's about
to be a free agent.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Man's got eight years left on his deal and hundreds
of millions of dollars. So huge, huge, kind of undertaking
by the Giants. But they need offense and they're playing really,
really well, just a game behind the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Got a great pitching staff.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
They give up four players, including one of their top
young pitchers. Okay, more on that coming up, but I
want to also hit with you, Desmond Baine this morning
to the Orlando Magic. I woke up on day to
this news in fact, and I don't know what your
first reaction was. E My first reaction because Bain goes
(15:07):
to Orlando in exchange for Contavious Cole, well Pope Cole
Anthony for for unprotected first round picks and a pick swap,
And my first reaction is if that's what Desmond Bain costs, well,
(15:29):
I'm gonna say no. Thanks on Giannis before he even
requests a trade. What on earth do you have to
give up to potentially get Yannis? I get the kd
as much older.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
What are you gonna have?
Speaker 2 (15:42):
This sets the table for what's supposed to be a
major trade off season, and I would argue for the buyers,
it sets a really bad table.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Yeah, that's uh. Now, look, I think Desmond Bain, with
that young cored that they have there, I think that's
what they've missed, a sharpshooter outside to be able to
knock down those shots and spread the floor. For Benchero,
(16:13):
we've seen him taking giant steps to becoming that guy.
Like I mean, he's a problem. If you watch him play,
he's got a lot of Lebron in him. He's a
he's a tough.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Cover, massive mass humanity.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yeah, blessed right once he gets going downhill, man, oh goodness,
and he's still a baby. He's still a kid. And
to be able to do that now and kick that
thing out to Desmond pain. Oh. Like in the East,
the Magic are are making the steps to get themselves
better and to be in the mix. The East is
(16:52):
wide open, so there's no telling what you'll see. I mean,
people really think they have a shot. So it's one
of those situations they're like, look, will mortgage the future
for right now because they have what the wagnas you
know him and his brother are dynamic young players now
(17:15):
adding shooting. I think you know they're they're gearing themselves
up and then you know free agency is in the
draft is not done well, not that they have any
draft picks, right God, now.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
That's the end of that, like forever.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
I mean, you're like, your breakdown of the Magic to
me is spot on, But there's just a huge butt
like like, okay, yes, Orlando good defensive squad, Ben Carol's
twenty two. They feel like they've got a dude. I agree,
build around him. It was clear what they need. They
were one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA. Okay,
(17:53):
so you gotta have shooting, all right, this this, this
is a start to get Desmond Bane, and I like
Desmond Bane, and maybe the Pacers run and the fact
that Tatum is gonna miss next year and Jannis may
get traded and Cleveland is actually maybe missing a start.
(18:13):
Maybe that's what sort of pushed this where Orlando's like, oh,
this kind of looks like it's there for the taking
if we make a big move. So from that standpoint,
I love all of it. From I just feel like
it is really expensive.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
It is well, you know, I think Michael Bridges, the
mchil Bridges trade, uh earlier, oh well last year, earlier,
this this, I think that set the tone. They gave
up what five first round draft picks.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
I'll pull it up.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
I think what you're saying is, yes, it is correct
Michel Bridges, yep, if he can catch right.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
Not to take anything away from who he is as
a player, but it ain't that Okay.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Here is the trade for Michel Bridges Brooklyn Nets, New
York Knicks, July twenty twenty four. You're right, it's five
first round draft picks. Four of them are unprotected. One
of them is protected this year from the Bucks and
then also a first round pick swap in twenty twenty
eight and a second round pick this year first rounders
(19:22):
one pick swap in the first round and a second
for like.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
A non All Star player.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
What is Bridges is either fourth best player, but.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
He's not even an All Star, hasn't been an All Star? Correct,
So if you're doing that, what are you trading for
an MVP? Now the caveat is the Lakers in Dallas
kind of skewed. You know that value system in terms
(19:50):
of if two parties agree mutually, most likely in secret, yep,
then any trade can happen. I think they set the
ta that for the ability to make a trade that
doesn't make sense to the world if both parties agree.
Now on the open market, if you have third, fourth
(20:12):
best players, non All Star caliber players fetching five, six,
seven first round draft picks, Lord, I think what it
says to us and the public is the lack of
value in these first round and these picks.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
That's a good point.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
I think if you're willing to do something like that,
I think you have to look at how teams are
really valuing these picks, and there doesn't seem to be
a bunch of value on them.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah, no, I mean you're absolutely right. Even go back,
go back to last year and quiz NBA fans be like,
name five rookies.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
It's impossible. Yeah, it's impossible, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
I don't even know how many people could name the
number one overall pick. They can this year, but how
many people could name the number two pick.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Or the number three pick.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
Yeah, there'd be a handful of people who weren't avid
basketball fans to tell you who the number one pick
in the draft was last year.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Right, right?
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Although I do I know one of them, I know
one of them. He could probably, Oh I know, he knows.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
He could probably tell you the first pick in the second.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Round and where he went to second grade.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
There you go, his name, Steve de Seger. That's him.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
I believe it was Reese's shave, but he did not
win Rookie of the Year, So how would anybody know?
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Of course you knew, gentlemen, Will we.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Have a little golf to discuss in two hours, because
this is how the US Open finish with an unknown
JJ spawned with a chance to take this major in
the rain on eighteen final round, Oakmont, Pennsylvania on NBC.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Don't need to make it two punts.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
This is from sixty four feet away.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Run.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
He birdied the last two holes and wins by two.
To say the least, this is his first major victory.
How about he'd never finished top twenty at a major
until today. The guy was a walk on golfer at
San Diego State University pasts and wound up a conference
Player of the Year and now is holding the trophy
(22:27):
as we speak at.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
The US Open.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
Just a stunningly bad open to the final round, and
yet at the end of the Open he's holding the hardware.
How did this happen? Yikes? Robert McIntyre shot a final
round sixty eight, was leading at one over par and
then spawned birdied the last two to win by two.
Victor Hoblin finished in third, three back. Cameron Young of
(22:53):
the US tied for fourth, four strokes behind. The big
news from baseball, as you mentioned, the Giants are acquiring
dh Rafield Evers from Boston for four players. One of
those pitchers was due to pitch tonight at Dodger Stadium,
so we might see the bullpen over and over for
the Giants, who have taken the lead. It is three
to two in LA in the top of the fifth inning. Earlier,
(23:16):
the Padres won eight two at Arizona Nick Pavetta. The
wins seven and two for San Diego, Seattle six nothing
over Cleveland, Colorado gotta win ten to one at Atlanta,
and Boston shut out the Yankees, beating Max Freed to nothing.
Freed had been nine and one this season. As for
the College Baseball World Series, Louisville eliminated Arizona that was
(23:37):
eight to three, and right now Coastal Carolina's up five
to one on Oregon State. Bottom of the fourth WNBA
wins for Atlanta and for Chicago, which was two and seven,
but gotta win at Connecticut. Triple double for Angel Reese.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Desmond Bane to Orlando for
two players and four first rounders. The NBA finals continue Monday.
Stanley Cup games is Tuesday. NASCAR's race in Mexico went
to Shane Van Gisberg and from New Zealand, and US
men's soccer won five nothing over Trinidad in the Gold
Cup Opener, a tournament that just started this weekend. It's
(24:12):
on Fox and FS one.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
Back to you.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Okay, great stuff, Steve, And I'm already counting the minutes
of two hours from now, because yeah, there's a lot
to say about a US Open that will feel nondescript
to many, but so much to get to today, including
all of these trades we're talking out.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
The Desmond Bain situation. Do we have JP ready to
rock to we do? Okay? Awesome, JP Morosi.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
MLB Network spent a long time with us as well,
just an extraordinaire out there on the baseball front.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
JP. It is wonderful to have you.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
What is your first reaction to this blockbuster tonight? Rafael
Devers to the Giants for four players.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
I did not see this coming MARKETI from I did
not see this coming. We insiders, we love to say,
oh we've gotten this all figured out. Its abate things. No, no,
this was a complete surprise here on Father's Day. Happy
Father's Day. By the way, all of that out there,
My goodness, we knew that all was not harmonious in
(25:13):
the Red Sox universe. Going back to spring training about
the position move for rack Field Devers and we're going
to get into this, I'm sure in greater detail, because
one of the issues on the Boston side of this
is that Alex Bregman can opt out after this season.
He can opt out, So you might now be in
the universe where you have neither Devers nor Bragman in
(25:37):
twenty twenty six, and you're basically now really relying on
the likes of Roman Anthony and Marcelo Meyer and this
young group of players, Whereas on the San Francisco side,
I feel like we're going back ten years or more
to where this was one of the principal franchises in baseball.
They've got a great rotation, and now they've gotten the
(25:57):
middle of the order bat that they've lacked since the
day's a Pablo Sandoval and maybe even if you want
to talk about bonds, it's it's been a long time
since they had a true slugger to achor the middle
part of the lineup. So this is a transforming day,
and I think something that's going to really get the
attention to the Dodgers because they have not been able
(26:17):
to keep their rotation healthy, marketing firm, and I think
now that you got to like the Giants' chances of
winning this division above all, the contenders right now.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Well, I was gonna ask you that, you know, in
terms of now we saw we've seen the Dodgers put
a lot of pressure, especially on baseball, but especially on
that division. Uh, what does this do for them now?
Is a it's a real uh looking over the show
that I guess it's not really They're not that far
(26:46):
apart in the standings. But how do the Dodgers now
combat that?
Speaker 6 (26:51):
Well, it's a great question, he man, and I think
that the Dodgers. It was interesting. I had a conversation
with one of their high ranking baseball folks a couple
of weeks ago, and I was told that the way
that they had proceeded in the off season signing Blake Snell,
and of course that they believe that Glass now was
going to be able to come in and be healthy
this year, that they had big plans for Roki Sasaki,
(27:13):
and their attitude was, well, we're going to bring in
so much pitching that we're not going to have to
make a big movement the deadline the way they did
last year with Jack Flaherty. Well, now, he from they
probably have to make a move unless everybody gets back
completely healthy. And of course they're hoping that Otani's going
to be able to throw some quality innings for them.
I just think the Dodgers, they're still a great team,
(27:36):
Don't get me wrong. But if if anybody thinks that
this is an inevitability and they're certainly going to represent
the National League in the World Series, I don't see that.
I mean, I mean, they're still a really good team.
They really are, but they're one of many good teams
in the National League. That's how I feel about the Dodgers,
that they they now are in a position from where
(27:57):
they're going to have to make a move I think
to build it up more stability to their rotation. Otherwise
there are one more injury away from a complete catastrophe
in the month of October, where people forget, Yes, we
remember how how the World Series ended in Freddie Freeman
and they win the World Series. I get it. They
almost got bounced in four games by the Padres in
the first round. They did, so we have to remember
(28:19):
that this team is very good, but it's not perfect.
And I think that this trade today is there are
rivals for more than a century all of a sudden
get a lot better. I think there's going to be
some work to be done there at the Dodgers front
office here in the coming weeks.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Fascinating stuff.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
JP Morosi is with us here on Fox Sports Radio,
Mark Willerty from Salam Jp, what about the Dever side
of this?
Speaker 3 (28:42):
We know that he's been at odds with.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
The Red Sox all year with regard to that position. Well,
he might be able to play third base for a
few weeks in San Francisco, but then Matt Chapman, who's
under a long term deal, is going to be healthy.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
So what is his willingness.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
To can continue this positional debate now in San Francisco.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
Well, it's an excellent question, Mark. We don't know this
for absolute certain but I would say this that we're
going to see Rafaeld Devers play in the first base
of the Giants, and probably sooner rather than later. I
just to your point, Chapman's on the il right now,
so he can play third I suppose in the near term.
But it was Dever's opposition to playing first base in Boston,
(29:27):
at least as it was explained to me, was less
about him not being able to handle it athletically or
from a positional standpoint, and more about how he felt
that he was communicated with with respect to the Bregman
signing moving to DH and then of course moving on
to first base. They hoped, but he blocked that. And
so I think now it's a new place he's going
(29:50):
to come to San Francisco. And I think also very importantly,
he knows William Domas. They're fellow Dominicans, that they played
the American League Eat together for a long time. I
think that's to really bring out the best out of
a Damas too, and the best out of Devs. It's
gonna be a good situation for Raffie. It's a ballpark where,
outside of some brilliant but inconsistent times for sand the ball,
(30:13):
they haven't really had a true lefty slugger since Bonds,
a guy that can really just put the ball in
the water time and time again. And Devers can do that.
He's just such a great hitter to all fields, but
he can certainly pull the ball when he has to.
So I just think this is a I would be
surprised Mark. And if he doesn't embrace the chance to
(30:36):
play first base, they've got Wilbert Flores who can be
the DH. He can play little first two is that
maybe it becomes the first base DH time share. But
Matt Chapman's one of the best defenders in the world
at any position. He's a third baseman at San Francisco,
and I think it's gonna be up to Devers to
find his new identity either at first base or at DH,
but hopefully for the Giant's sake and for Dever's sake, honestly,
(30:58):
that it's at first base.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
I will say, once you once you're you know, have
a little malcotin from from from a team that you're leaving,
and you get into a fresh, new, uh situation with
the team, You're willing to do what that team needs
you to do, especially if that team is really competing
for a title. Now, for Boston, they're only six and
(31:21):
a half games out. Is this kind of like a
do we see more, you know, bleeding from from Boston?
Is this as a throwaway year for them? Is this
a rebuild year?
Speaker 6 (31:32):
You know, that's a great question. I think there's still
to back up in the American League right now. Basically
everybody has got a chance except for a handful of
teams that are right at the bottom. I mean, there
this is a year in which if you're even within
three games of five hundred, you are a contender. So
I don't think the Red Sox are are declaring that
(31:54):
they're totally out of it with this trade, as much
as they are turning this roster over to their young guys.
And now all of a sudden on all the marketing
materials and everywhere around Fenway, it's going to be all
about Roman Anthony and Marcelo Meyer and Christian Campbell and
Saydaan Rafaela. It's a new generation for them and it's
not to me. And by the way, Garret Crochet and
(32:17):
they traded a bunch of prospects to get Crochet. This
allows them to replenish a bit of maybe some of
their younger talent. So I just think this is more
about they looked at their team. There was all this
tension with Devers. They probably didn't see the clubhouse dynamic
getting any better. So they always say, and you know
see from your law career in athletics too, in sports,
(32:40):
you sometimes see a smart trade is trading the player
a year early as supposed to a year late. And
I think they saw where this was going. It was
not going in a good direction. So as painful as
it is, you make the move. Now Anthony and Admire
are the faces of your franchise, along with Crochet, and
you hope that with the youth, you're able to say
(33:00):
competitive and what is a fairly winnable and this is
like the most mediocre the Ale East has been in
a long time. So take your chances in a winnable
division with a younger team, and maybe even having Devers
out of the mix with a clubhouse standpoint will kind
of maybe raise the mood of the place a little bit,
just because it had gotten to me in distraction. No,
it's fault, and it had just gotten to the point
(33:22):
where it just seemed like Devers wasn't having a great
time in Boston.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
JP last one here and it's this.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
What does it say about the philosophical approach of Buster Posey,
who takes over now as the president of baseball operations
for the Giants. Far Anziety was there for years and
there were almost no.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Long term contracts.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Here comes Buster, It's Chapman, it's a damis now it's
the acquisition of Devers.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
What does this say about the shift in philosophy.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
Back to the future for all the right reasons this is.
I love it because, first of all, the Giants were
in there on Soto judge, and they were involved in
all these pursuits and it seemed like nobody wanted to
go to San Francisco. Well, now you make a trade,
and so it doesn't have the same element of choice
on the player side of things. This is a very
(34:12):
smart move. Make this move now. That way you change
a bit of your your branding if you will, for
the overall industry. And if after you get a Damas
and Chatman and then you endeavors, eventually you're going to
start getting players that want to play for your franchise.
And I just think it shifts a bit of the
way the team is now regarded in the industry. And
(34:34):
if you can't sign the big time free agent, trade
for the big time player, and by the way, a
lesser number than Vlad Junior than n Soto, it's a
bit of a discount. So I love it. It's the
aggressiveness of someone in Buster Posey who's going to go
to the Hall of Fame as the players. He's got
a lot of dirt under his spikes. I like that.
I like it when you've got an aggressive guy who's
(34:55):
not worried about the doubt side. He's worried about winning.
And I think that was the message of Buster Posey
said to the.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Job, JP, great stuff, and thank you on short notice
for jumping in on a big night.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
Thank you, thank you marketing for my pleasure. Happy Father's Day.
I always enjoying the conversation, by friend's sake, So much to.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
You as well, JP Morosi, who I texted earlier this
week to see if he would be able to chat
a little with us during my weekday show, and he
couldn't because he was at home solo with his three kids.
So Happy Father's Day to JP Morosi as well. All right,
we will react to all of that. Fox Sports Radio Studios.
(35:30):
That's he from Salama, Mark Willard, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Okay, this is live in the Fox Sports Radio studios.
That is he from Salama.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Mark Willard just spent the last half hours so talking
out Desmond Bain to the Magic Rafael Devers to the
San Francisco Giants. And while I think that the Baine
trade was expensive, and I actually think the Devers trade
was kind of on the down low, not like I
I you know, and I don't expect our listeners to
(36:04):
know the farm system of the San Francisco Giants, but like, yeah,
like I this this was a really really good deal
I thought for the Giants. But there's one thing that
I think is a thread between both deals, and I
just come at it from the fan perspective. There's so
much right now in sports, so many teams.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Where the owners are just.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Not doing anything, just not out there giving a crap.
More than half of baseball doesn't give a crap.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Yeah, baseball has a bad right and and.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
In basketball it's all about cycles.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
I would say maybe a third of the league doesn't
give a crap, but even another third that does is
just doing it in a cycle where they're like, yeah,
it's not really our time right now. We care, but
this is going to take a while, and this that
the other we're gonna tank for a bit. And there's
a tiny bit of it in football, not as much
because of a hard salary cap, but there's so much
(37:11):
in the way of I don't care in sports ownership
right now that when you see teams do stuff like this,
I think as a fan you have to be a
little bit thankful even if it makes you greet your
teeth when you see what's on the way out the door.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Well for the Giant especially, I'm sure you guys, because
you are a Giant fan. You you guys are excited
because all you've been hearing is how the Dodgers and
the Padres are gonna, you know, run away with this division,
(37:48):
and it's you guys became an afterthought. And so now
that's why I ask JP that question, like what type
of pressure does this put on the Dodgers. It's going
to force them to make another move? Is going to
force them to now answer something after they've really just
been you know, kind of cruising. They know they got
(38:11):
a lot of injuries, and they know eventually guys will
be back, hopefully and just in time for them to
make their run. But now, I mean, this game is
a big game here, This is a big game. This
game all of a sudden becomes like oh snap, and
it was you know, too nothing early. Then San Francisco
(38:32):
came in and it was three to two. Now it's
five to three. So there's a lot on the line
in this game. And I think moving forward through the
rest of the season, especially in this division, I think
that's what you want, especially as a fan.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Out no doubt that's what you want.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
No, the Giants are part of this party, whether people
realize that or not, because they're not flashy, but their
pitching staff is elite. It's the best pitching staff along
with the Mets, in all of baseball in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
But it was maddening at times.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
They just a short short time ago they went sixteen
straight games and scored thirty two runs in sixteen games, Ephraim.
Yet somehow they still they're a game out of first place.
So that tells you how good they're pitching is. But
now now they've got an actual middle of the order,
and so when you add that in with this pitching staff. Yeah,
(39:24):
I don't know if they'll win the division. I expect
the Giants to be in the postseason. And all three
of these teams they have some things that they can
offer one another that scare the other two for sure.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Yeah, that's what sport is, and kudos for them for
shaking the landscape up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
No doubt about it. Yeah, like game on in the
National League West. So we've got a lot more to
discuss on that. The Desmond Bine trade as well, what's
going on with the Knicks coaching search and the US
Open also, so all of that is on the table.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Mark Willardy from salam Stay with us.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Rado.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Well, all of you dudes out there listening that have
had kids, and by the way, only the ones who
are actually caring and doing a good job. Happy Father's Day.
Happy Father's Day to each and every one of you.
That's how we started the show. It's how we'll start
every hour. We're broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
All kinds of stuff that is on the table today.
(40:27):
As you just heard Steve Stay, two major trades, one
in baseball, one in basketball.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Earlier today we're talking that out.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
We're watching the acquiring team in the Blockbuster in baseball
try their hand with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Right now
in our little evening watch party, we've got a US
Open champion who, unless you're a big golf fan, you've
never heard of. But you know what we haven't been
able to talk about yet, which we should right now.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
The NBA Finals.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
First and foremost, from your reaction to the fourth quarter
on Friday night, where it looked like the Pacers were
moments away from taking that commanding three to one lead,
and then didn't.
Speaker 4 (41:07):
They had it. They had it, man, And it's one
of those situations where Number One, because we do have
skin in the game, I was like, oh ho ho.
But you know, the unfortunate the unfortunate thing is you
(41:29):
completely let control of the game go. You had complete
control of the game at a time where you could
have all but ended it and put all the pressure
and the onus on a team that isn't used to
playing close games all year, and you let that slip away,
(41:55):
and it may and most likely will come back to
bite you.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
I mean as a player and as a coach and
as a as a franchise, you'll go back and play
that fourth quarter over and over again, because I mean
they had they were playing outstanding basketball, the Pacers. They
were right there, man. And to be there with a
(42:28):
two to one lead already and then be in position
to really take a stranglehold over a team that's clearly
been the best team in basketball all year, yep. Man,
you don't get those You don't get those back.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
No, No, you don't.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
And I mean the Pacers to a small degree kind
of got pacered, if you will, and so you know,
in the world of things evening out, I think the
series is probably kind of sort of where it should be.
But I get where you're coming from. The likelihood is,
and I felt this going into that game, just because
of home court advantage and who these teams are, the
(43:09):
likelihood is that the winner of Friday Night's game is
going to win the series. That's how I felt, and
so I feel that way now could be wrong for us.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
It sucks. It sucks.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Sucks for us, and for those of you who don't
get the reference, you two boys here might have put
a couple of their hard earned dad dollars on the
Pacers to win.
Speaker 7 (43:37):
It.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
And look, if there's anybody who has surprised us already
in these playoffs, it's the Pacers. They could do so
again tomorrow night, and maybe that changes all of the calculus.
Or if this does end up in a game seven,
that's a little bit of an equalizer.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Those can get crazy.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
But yeah, Oklahoma City probably turned the tides on Friday night,
and I wanted to into that a little bit. I
would like to now, first of all, Rick Carlisle, the
head coach of the Indiana Pacers came out today and
did all kinds of defending of referee Scott Foster.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
This is one of the most I guess call it
big named refs in the league.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
Had been around for a long time. A lot of
people know who he is. He has a nickname. They
call him the extender because he is known for doing
things in the playoffs that extend series. He's also very
well known if you ever watched the Tim Donaghie documentary,
(44:39):
Scott is the one that Tim called like forty times
a day. Yet somehow I guess they're just friends. Like
I don't know why this never whatever, Like obviously he's
stayed one step ahead of that whole situation. I don't
necessarily want to make this about Scott.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
I'd like to make this about Shay.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
And what I really noticed in the fourth quarter of
that basketball game is MVP treatment. And I wonder how
we feel about that, because in general, we like star
treatment provided that the star is playing for our team.
But if he's not, it can be very, very frustrating
(45:29):
when you, for example, what I'll say, what's the number
one word that we've heard people use to describe the
NBA playoffs as.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
A whole physical Yeah, not when SHA's got the ball.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
When SHA's got the ball, if a fingernail makes a
phone call to.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
An armhair, then we've got a whistle.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
And in fact, one of the whistles that went his
way the replay showed was a clear, clear offensive foul
on Shae yep, And so I don't know, man, that's
really spotlighting one player in one quarter, and maybe that
doesn't feel fair, but I did not like the way
that that looked in what felt like the sort of
(46:21):
possibly the deciding quarter of this series.
Speaker 4 (46:25):
Yeah, I think for the most part, the Pacers have
been doing a tremendous job on Shae in terms of
picking him up full court nim hart Is. I mean,
they are on him, like serious, They're making it difficult
for him, he's having to play defense. They're they're really
(46:48):
putting them through the paces. And to see it kind
of like shift a little bit there at the end
was kind of weird. You know, in the last quarter.
It's one of those situations where you're like, okay, keep
just I enjoy letting them play right, and Shaye's good
enough to understand that if they don't. If he's not
(47:10):
getting the calls. He has other things in his bag.
He is a you know, probably one of the best
mid range shooters in the game him brunting and k
KD right now, and so his ability to gain space. Now,
what they allow him to get away with more than
(47:31):
anybody I've seen in quite some time, is that off arm.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
That off arm is brutal on that step back.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (47:43):
That thing is lethal. And so outside of the pacer
players falling on that, I don't know if they're going
to call that, but it's bad that you want to
talk about creating space yep, yep. I don't care who
you are. Defensively, it's impossible to close that gap on
(48:07):
that push off. And so if they're going to continue
to let him do that as we saw, then it's
coming down the stretch is going to be difficult. Man.
He's too good of a shot maker. He's too Yeah,
it's going to be difficult.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
It's a great player.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
And I've noticed two things with regard to what I
would refer to as star treatment. And one, yes, it
is if there's anything sort of kind of like within
a shadow of a doubt, he's getting the whistle. And
then do you notice the other thing? This is the
one that gets me. Here's when this is my definition
of star treatment and it goes maybe a little bit
more in depth than most people. For most people that
(48:49):
star treatments just like, oh, you kind of get the
benefit of doubt, you get the foul call. Have you
noticed the whistles that come after they wait to see
if a shot went in.
Speaker 3 (49:01):
Yes, yes, that's the one.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
That's when I want to send a firmly worded email. Okay,
that's when I get ticked off, no matter who I'm watching,
and no matter.
Speaker 3 (49:13):
Who I'm rooting for.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
That is outside of the purview of a ref. That's
outside of the rules of sport. You can't wait and
see if a shot went in and if it didn't,
then decide that it's a foul. That to me is
the big definition of star treatment. And I'm seeing Shay
Giljess Alexander is essentially the only one who's receiving that
(49:37):
call in this series.
Speaker 4 (49:39):
Yeah, it's a it's it's one of those to play
on if it goes in and a foul is a foul.
And I get they don't want to slow down the
game and certain aspects, but let's you know, tell that
to the old fan base, tell that to the fans.
(50:00):
We just want to see it called clean. It's one
of those situations where.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
I mean.
Speaker 4 (50:12):
And refs have been doing that since the dawn of time.
It just happened. I was watching it happen in aau,
which drives parents crying. It drives parents crazy.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
It literally looks ridiculous. It's like where did you fall asleep?
Like what like that? That that gap between the play
and then the whistle is so long that it's just like,
what on earth? What on earth are you doing?
Speaker 4 (50:39):
Yeah, it's uh yeah, it'll be interesting to see how
the Pacers rebound are bounced back, because it's gonna be
rocking in case. Man, Okay, see, it's gonna be rocking
out there. It's hard. That's tough to play.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
Yep, and the later series get I feel like the
more home court advantaged matters, and so yeah, like I'm
not expecting good things from the Pacers tomorrow night, but
then again, this is what they do, this is what
they've done, and so you know, maybe they've got a
surprise for us. There's one other thing that I want
to get to that's sort of like officiating related. And
(51:24):
this isn't about Shay or any team, It's about all
of the teams. There's also a call that the league office,
You've got to call a meeting on this. Right now,
you have to call a meeting. Apparently all screens are
now fouls.
Speaker 4 (51:43):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 3 (51:44):
I didn't know this. I wasn't aware of this rule change.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
But all screens now are apparently so devastating that every
single time one happens, whoever's running into that screen is
hospitalized immediately and and we are immediately forced. We don't
look at whether or not the player is set. We
(52:08):
don't look at the player's feet, we don't look if
the player is throwing his arms into the defender. We
simply look at the histrionics of the defense of the defender.
And if that defender looks uncomfortable in any sort of
a way, we're going the other way. Look out of
the corner of your eye. I get why you see
(52:31):
it that way.
Speaker 3 (52:32):
I'm sorry. You got to figure something out.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
The higher a four, you're making a lot of money
higher a fourth raft, and he's just a screen raft.
Speaker 3 (52:38):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
All I want him to do is stand out there
at half court and stare at the high screen and
tell me if that guy did something illegal, because it
feels like almost half of them now are fouls.
Speaker 4 (52:50):
Yeah, it's in a league where people don't even screen anymore.
I think plays into that as well. So many times,
if you really look at it, a person will come
up the screen and the defender will just switch without
even being screened. And so the thing I love about
(53:14):
how the Pacers are playing nim Hard especially he is
fighting over the screens. Yep, he is going to make
you screen him. And that is the difference. That's why
they're having the level of success on Shape because they're
not just acquiescing to the screen and switching putting a
(53:36):
big on on Shay. No, he's there the biggest giving
him space and he's fighting over the top. He's hedging
the biggest, hedging and then going back to his guy
on the roll. I love that. I'm a defensive coach first,
and so I love the effort. And it's tiring and
(53:58):
it's but the Pace have a bunch of guys. What's
mustache man.
Speaker 8 (54:03):
Oh god, mustachio, let's just call them that, Like that's
a they all work on that.
Speaker 4 (54:13):
That's what they're doing. And I love the fact that
it makes me. It makes me smile to see people
actually putting effort into defense because that can change the game.
It can give you an opportunity to pull an upset
what you know, what they're poised to do right now.
(54:35):
It gives you an opportunity because most teams don't play
against that level of defense anymore. They just don't. No
one is. It's almost like a you know, a press,
a college press, where they're picking them up, man and man.
They don't even want them to get the ball on
the inbounds. That's shifted the series. It's given them an opportunity.
(54:58):
And say he's tired at the end of Game three,
he was exhausted.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
Yeah, totally, he.
Speaker 4 (55:06):
Was exhausted, hands on the hill, on his knees. But
because he has to fight on offense and defense. And
that's the point.
Speaker 3 (55:17):
Ben Shephard, I think is.
Speaker 4 (55:19):
The Ben Shepard.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
That's mister mustache.
Speaker 4 (55:21):
That mustache is serious.
Speaker 3 (55:23):
That's a lot going on there for a basketball player,
isn't it? Relief pitcher?
Speaker 2 (55:27):
Maybe basketball interesting play, but anyway, all right, lots more
to get to on this. Did the Knicks have a
plan or are they just making crap up as they go.
We can get into that also. Steve de Sager's fifteen
minutes away. You'll get the US Open up date. And
I got something that I need to get off my
chest about the US Open, and we will do that
(55:49):
coming up next with I from Salam. I'm Mark Willard,
Fox Sports Radio. All right, this is live in the
Fox Sports Radio studios. You can stream this show and
all of our Fox Sports Radio shows live twenty four
to seven and the new and improved iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
Just search Fox Sports Radio in the app.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
You stream us live and one of the newest features
in the app is that you can select Fox Sports
Radio is one of your presets, just like the preset on.
Speaker 3 (56:15):
A radio doll.
Speaker 2 (56:15):
So be sure to do that preset Fox Sports Radio
in the iHeartRadio app. It's always gonna pop up right
there at the top of your screen.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
Okay, little something to get off the chest here, and then.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
Steve will be along shortly to update you what happened
today at the US Open. For those who don't know,
the winner's name is JJ Spawn and where's he from?
JJ Spawn? I know what you're trying to get me
to say.
Speaker 4 (56:50):
Where's he from?
Speaker 3 (56:51):
San Diego State? Okay, san Diego State?
Speaker 4 (56:53):
All right.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
I just wanted to make sure you know he's actually
from Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (56:57):
No, no, no, And where's it from.
Speaker 3 (57:00):
In Scottsdale, Arizona.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
Where is he from?
Speaker 3 (57:02):
He is from Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (57:03):
No, he's from San Diego State.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
He went to San Diego State.
Speaker 4 (57:07):
That's where you're from. Nobody, you're an athlete.
Speaker 2 (57:10):
Okay, you're an athlete because like it, like Mark, nice
to meet you.
Speaker 3 (57:15):
Where are you from? I don't go cow poly sand
Luis say that Mark?
Speaker 2 (57:19):
Sorry, well, excuse me, excuse me for four year letterman
in high school.
Speaker 3 (57:25):
Ok And and boy, that.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Innermural squad didn't want to see me coming, so I
can knock down a three anyway anyway, JJ Spawn. Look,
golf is like this and you have to be okay
with it. And what I mean by that is golf
often gets to its biggest moment and spits out a
(57:49):
champion you never.
Speaker 4 (57:50):
Heard of ever.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
I know that most of you have never heard of.
JJ spawn.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Turns out he's a twenty fourth ranked player in the world.
But the only reason he was a twenty four with
the rst player in the world is because he gagged
and took second place at the Players Championship earlier this year,
and that second place vaulted him up like almost one
hundred spots in the rankings, and so he's up there.
(58:15):
He's a good player. The average sports fan has never
heard of him. And there's something now that I think
the US Open specifically needs to do about this, because
it's not just that the US Open tends to be
the one, I think at times that spits out this
random name.
Speaker 3 (58:35):
It also has the random name not.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
Doing anything that looks visually spectacular on TV because the
USGA is obsessed with even par and it's the stupidest
thing I've ever heard of in my entire life. Let's
gather all the best in the world, have the biggest
moment and then make them look like crap and see
who survives the most. I just don't get it, and
(58:59):
I'll never at it. And they have this obsession with it.
They think it's funny, it's cool. Every year before the
US Open, there's all these videos that come out of
people that go to the course and they roll the
ball into the rough and then they go over there
with a camera and they go, look, I'm standing on
top of the ball and you can't even see the ball,
and it's like, look, it takes like a like we
(59:19):
need a lawnmower in order to advance this twelve feet Haha,
that's what are we doing.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
That's not fun. We're here for fun.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
I liken this to the idea of if the NFL
changed all the rules to favor the defense so that
it was like impossible to get to twenty points in
a game. Anybody want to sign up for that? No,
so dumb. So the Masters is so much more watchable
than the US Open because the Masters celebrates eagles. They
(59:51):
want you to go for the par five in two.
They don't want you looking for your ball. This is
a television show. So I think that we've reached a time.
This comes up a lot every couple of years. It's
a big deal. But I just think, look, Tiger's not
around anymore. Golf, you're gonna have to figure out a
(01:00:13):
way to people to care. And if what you're offering
new fans is well, we've got really long grass, Yeah, think,
come on, watch something else.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
So they gotta do something, man.
Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
Yeah, And and look it's with without that spark plug,
without that that that battery that people are are itching
to see. Then it will get lost in the rough.
See how I did that?
Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
Very good? Very I would like, I mean very good.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
We we do need the next great, young, energetic star
for golf. We do, we really do, we do. I
mean it's got to somebody's got to be coming, right.
I mean, well, this whole tournament, seriously.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
This whole tournament just it meandered and a lot of
the really the big names, the Rory McElroy's, the Scottis shufflers, they're.
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
Kind of like they were like leaderboard adjacent that there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
They did fine, they didn't embarrass themselves, but they were
never in it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
And you know, you.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Had some names that are like B level names. I
think that that we're in this thing. But the whole
tournament it meandered and people were shooting seventy eight's and
it's just like, again, I get it, you want to
challenge the best in the world, but you've got to
blend that with what works on television. And I am
(01:01:57):
a huge golf fan, and this thing on Father's Day
weekend never really gave me a reason to be like,
you know what, I'm gonna sift through all the other
sports on and sit down and watch this.
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
It never gave me a reason.
Speaker 4 (01:02:13):
No, I think, you know, In terms of viewers, the
casual viewer very rarely watches golf like I'm I'm you're
obviously an avid golf watcher and Steve and you know
us in the business perhaps, But the average guy, or
(01:02:35):
the average fan or or sports enthusiasts is like, eh,
you know what, na, I'm good, Yeah, go work. I'm
gonna get this grill set I just got for Father's
Day and go out here and make everybody dinner.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Once you're done fixing the deck. Of course, that fixed
the deck first. Speaking of deck, Yeah, you know who's
on deck.
Speaker 4 (01:03:04):
He's in. He's on deck, baby stepping in, stepping into
the circle.
Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
About his box. Now Steve to.
Speaker 5 (01:03:13):
Say better up, hello, gentlemen. And by the way, the
other thing that needs to change in golf, can everybody please,
once and for all stop calling the Saturday round of
the golf tournament moving day nice as if there is
no movement in the standings up and down in any
other day.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
It's also a terrible connotation moving day. If somebody tells
me it's moving day, I'm like, don't call me like
I don't want to help you move. That sounds all
that's right.
Speaker 5 (01:03:41):
The immediate response would be no, no, it's like a
play on words, because you know people move on set
only on Saturdays.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
They don't move, and.
Speaker 5 (01:03:49):
Nobody moved today in the entire country. Please people. JJ
spawn won the US Open. More on him in an hour,
but he won the US Open exactly what you're talking about.
At one under par. The guy who was second was
leading late at one over par. Robert McIntyre with his
(01:04:09):
final round sixty eight, which is just our gargantuanly low
score to you.
Speaker 4 (01:04:13):
I was open.
Speaker 5 (01:04:14):
He finished second. Victor HOVLM was three back in third.
So the only goal for to finish this tournament under
par is the guy who won the tournament. The Memphis
Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to Orlando for two players and
four first rounders. This past season, Bain averaged nineteen points
a game, six rebounds five assists a game, as well.
Over his five years in Memphis, he averaged eighteen points
(01:04:36):
a game. The NBA Finals continue Monday, Indiana at Oklahoma City.
Series tied at two games apiece. Then Game six will
be Thursday at Indiana in the WNBA victories for Atlanta,
Phoenix and Chicago, which was two and seven but won
at Connecticut seventy eight sixty six Connecticut.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
Two and eight.
Speaker 5 (01:04:53):
Angel Reefs with a triple double for Chicago eleven points,
thirteen rebounds, eleven assists at triple double on two of
seven shooting from the Florida That is impressive.
Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
Wow, co see people can plain she has the rebound merchant.
How about that triple double?
Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
What do you want?
Speaker 5 (01:05:15):
Clo? Stanley Cup Game six is Tuesday at Florida. Panthers
lead three games to two against Edmonton. A Game seven
would be Friday at Edmonton. Still, the last time a
Canadian team won the Stanley Cup was nineteen ninety three.
NASCAR's race in Mexico went to Shane van Gisbergen from
New Zealand. He'd started from the poll and led sixty
(01:05:36):
of the one hundred laps there. US men's soccer beat
Trinidad five nothing in its Gold Cup opener. Can I
just say, having seen some of this game on Fox
today from San Jose, the American men have truly been
putrid in the last few months with the new coach,
and it's not all his problem, and it's the younger
roster for the summer and all of that. How bad
(01:05:57):
is Trinidad that they lost five nothing this team the
Americans outshot him twenty one to three. Next up for
the US and the tourney a game Thursday in Austin, Texas.
This tournament is on Fox and FS one. People who
are US men's soccer fans have let's just say, been
biting their nails watching this team lose game after game,
(01:06:18):
all home games recently. By the way, also because the
US is going to be co hosting the World Cup
in a year, and it was looking like, wow, should
we even put the team out on the I was
gonna say the field? Do I have to say the pitch?
Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
You do have to say the pim.
Speaker 5 (01:06:32):
Sorry, that's British, that's not a soccer term. Meanwhile, we've
got the FIFA Club World Cup starting and at the
Rose Bowl, eighty thousand on hand. Today parisander Man, the
European champs, won four nothing over at Letico Madrid. The
big news from baseball, the Giants are acquiring dh Rafael
Devers from Boston for four players. He's in year two
(01:06:52):
of a ten year contract. The Sunday Night game is
the Giants at Dodger Stadium, and right now, with two
outs in the ninth, come on Tanner Scott going for
the save and the Dodgers holding on to a five
to four lead. Andy Pajez with a three run homer
in the fifth and Colorado won ten to one at Atlanta.
I need to say that again out loud. The Colorado
(01:07:13):
Rockies A won a ballgame. B won at ten to
one against the Atlanta Braves ballgame. Blouses Scott with a
strikeout five for LA the final over the Giants. So
everything's final, including that Rockies win, and that means, by
the way, they are a mere twenty eight and a
half games out in the NL West. There's a chance
(01:07:35):
after this victory today, the Rockies home record is seven
and twenty seven. The road record is seven and thirty. They,
after the loss to Atlanta yesterday, wound up and we're
not quite to the halfway point of the season. The
Rockies wound up with the worst overall record after seventy
(01:07:55):
games in any season since nineteen oh one. The all
fence in the game yesterday that they lost went four
for thirty two with nineteen strikeouts, and they were going
up against Spencer Strider on the mound, who had been
a great pitcher until injury and was zero to five
this year, but got to play Colorado yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
Back to you, boy, that is going to mess up
their run differential. They like, you know, like we've been
having a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (01:08:23):
Still two hundred, they know, two hundred this year.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Yeah, two hundred, but they've scored two hundred and thirty
nine runs. Remember when their run differential was as big
as their run scored.
Speaker 5 (01:08:34):
Totally correct. This ten to one is killing that, Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:08:37):
Killing it, killing it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
I was having a lot of joy from that.
Speaker 5 (01:08:41):
I mean, just by comparison, the Dodgers have literally scored
about four hundred.
Speaker 3 (01:08:46):
Runs, right, they are six six more to go until.
Speaker 5 (01:08:49):
Until recently it was Colorado scoring about two hundred runs
this season.
Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Incredible and at course field.
Speaker 5 (01:08:57):
Yeah I thought that was a field. I mean, I
don't really care what lineup you put there. It's it's
Coors Field.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
Yeah, you should be able to bloop things into that
outfield all day. Yeah, exactly, crazy all right, Steve, great
stuff man, as always, Thank you Fox Sports Radio Studios,
best pregame show every weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
You know where to find it. Fox Sports Radios.
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Countdown presented by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday morning
from nine to noon Eastern six to nine in the West,
counting down to all of the biggest games, whatever is
going on that weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
They'll get you ready.
Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Tune into Countdown presented by bet MGM every Saturday and
Sunday morning right here on Fox Sports Radio and the
I Heart Radio app. Hey, do you have any idea
what the Knicks are doing? And no, no, do not
do they.
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
No, they do not.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
It's one thing to fire your coach after appearing in
Eastern Conference finals. That's a thing, and that's debataball and
you know, I get it, I actually got it. But
then too immediately sort of conduct yourself in a way
(01:10:16):
of like, yeah, and we really didn't know what it
was we wanted to go do next, but we're going
to let you publicly know all of the things that
we're going to try to do and get turned down.
Imagine if this wasn't a team and a coach. Imagine
if this was I don't know, a man and a woman.
(01:10:37):
Imagine if this was the breakup. Imagine if you broke
up after what seemed like eight months of good dating
and then you break up, and then the second you
break up, you call that significant other every day to
(01:10:57):
tell them about how someone else turns you down again.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
The whole thing is just very weird.
Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
That's what happens when you do something impulsive and you
don't have a plan. You don't have a plan, like
you don't. I mean, it's it's to come off the season.
They just came off of the energy that was around
(01:11:28):
New York and the Knicks to this and the off
season is like throw all the momentum out of the window.
It's literally like pulling the emergency brake and and and
I mean it's it's tough. I know Knicks fans are
going crazy right now. I know Knicks players are going crazy. Yeah,
(01:11:54):
it's a lot to be done. They got a lot
of decisions to make.
Speaker 3 (01:11:56):
It's no coach, no and and and which I'm on trading.
Speaker 4 (01:12:00):
For Yanna, So what are we doing with Corn? And
they tell like, there's no.
Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Coach but and instead you're being turned down. It's just
like wow, Wow, I don't care what they do or
what they think is best for their organization. I can
promise you from a pr standpoint, this was not the
way to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
This was not it.
Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
So anyway, we'll get to a little bit more on that.
The Stanley Cup Final has been awesome. I'm not sure
if anybody is watching, though, we can get into that
a little bit. Caitlin Clark with an unbelievable performance. We've
got more drama with the Bengals. And again those two
trades that happened earlier today, Desmond Baine Raphael Devers both
(01:12:46):
on their way to new area codes. Bain, Orlando, Magic,
Devers San Francisco Giants. Will continue to talk that out
as we move into our final hour with you from Salama,
Mark Willer.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
This is Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
Live, Fox Sports Radio Studios, Mark Willardy from Salam. Y'all
tapped into the Stanley Cup Final. I mean, I driveting
d you know's playing yes Man in Florida. I know
you know I'm kidding, and I don't mean to take
shots at it. Look I've said this about I've said
(01:13:24):
this about hockey for a long long time because look,
when you're born and raised in California, hockey is not
often in the blood.
Speaker 3 (01:13:34):
It's just not in your blood. And that's fine. But
I'll also say, like.
Speaker 2 (01:13:41):
I don't know if everybody listening has been to an
NHL game. It's fantastic. It is wildly entertaining. It all
is very very easy to follow. It is all of
the things there. It's cold, yes, it's cold. It's all
(01:14:01):
of the things that it's not on TV.
Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
See yeh Hockey is a sport that you must see live. Yes,
it's for me. It's like Nascar. Like watching Nascar on television,
I'm like, oh, but being on yep at the track yep,
(01:14:27):
with the headset on yep. It's like being in Days
of Thunder. Let me out the cocko right like it's.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
It's yep, seriously yep.
Speaker 4 (01:14:40):
And hockey is one of those sports I love going
to the hockey games. Very difficult to watch it on television.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
It's very difficult. And I would say that, you know
a lot of people will go no, no, no. Playoff hockey
is different, and it is a little bit and playoff
overtime hockey is really different, and it is a little
bit different. It can get ex but the problem is
is it just you need to somehow connect with an
audience to where it feels like they are injecting something
into their bloodstream and you either do that because your
(01:15:12):
mom and dad, you know, they bred you to be
a fan of this sport, or because you've got a
team nearby and you can go and you can watch
and buy a sweater and all.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
Of the things that really really work.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
As far as the hockey audience is concerned.
Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
But I feel like we do this every year.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Right now, here comes the Stanley Cup Final and we'll
hear playoff hockey. There's nothing that is more dramatic than
playoffking who those ratings are not good, right right, And
of all the problems that exist in all the sports,
this is the biggest because there's no way to fix it.
Speaker 3 (01:15:57):
There's nothing you can do.
Speaker 4 (01:15:58):
It's nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
You can create a pitch clock in baseball. You can
change it in football so you're not allowed to touch
the quarterback, but you cannot suddenly make it easy to
follow the puck and all of the players and the
movements and the energy.
Speaker 3 (01:16:17):
On TV did There's nothing you can do. So I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
I sort of wonder and worry about the future of
hockey when it comes to a mass audience, because.
Speaker 3 (01:16:32):
You know, it's in.
Speaker 2 (01:16:35):
Some ways, there are aspects of it where it's miniature
soccer on ice, and soccer is going through obviously the
largest I mean, it is the biggest sport in the world,
and its growth in America has been pronounced over the
last generation. In all of this, and because of the
(01:16:57):
way it looks, the pace of it, the size of
the field, the visuals of the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
It works on TV.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
It works on TV even though it only brings half
the pace of hockey. So I don't know, you know,
everywhere every year someone's like, what do you think of
the ratings. I'm like, it doesn't work. It doesn't work
on TV.
Speaker 4 (01:17:18):
Well, wonder what the the ratings show.
Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
I mean, not good, not good, not good.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
I don't I mean, I don't have the uh, the
specifics in front of me. But you know, the phrase
has been thrown about on social media. Nobody's watching, the
whole body's watching. And I'm sure you know, like Ian
can answer this. Do we have an affiliate in Edmonton?
Speaker 3 (01:17:51):
I don't know. There's probably people are not watching.
Speaker 9 (01:17:53):
Yeah, yeah, you're watching, But I will say this, yeah,
Connor McDavid, Yeah, box Office, yeah, brother, I mean no,
there there are stars.
Speaker 4 (01:18:09):
It's like Kyrie Irving with a basketball, the way he
is on skates with a puck. I mean, it's very rare.
You see somebody make somebody break someone's ankle like you
would on a basketball court in hockey. I'm I was
(01:18:32):
watching his highlight. I was like, oh my god, goodness.
Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
Gracious special.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
Right, Oh, it's special. It's beyond special. It's beyond special.
But nobody knows, nobody, nobody knows, nobody knows. Go to
YouTube and type in Connor McDavid highlights and you'll see
they have a nine minute best of Connor McDavid. Help, yep,
(01:19:04):
will blow your mind.
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Game six is in Florida on Tuesday night. It could
be the presentation of the Cup. It could be, but
you and I will be celebrating that that Pacers Game
five win. Yeah, that's coming up tomorrow. Oh yeah, speaking
(01:19:26):
of what's coming up next, we got to get to
another weird off season for the Bengals.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
So that's around the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio into the night
we ride. Happy Father's Day to you all, well not
all of you, like not if you're a mom, but
if you're a dad and you're doing the darn thing,
Happy Father's Day to you. And that comes from two
other fathers from Salah Mark Willard Live Fox Sports Radio Studios.
(01:19:56):
Glad you're with us. Raphael Devers is a giant Desmond Bane,
a member of the Orlando Magic, and we'll dive into
all of that yet again in our final hour. But
wanted to hip aye hop over to the NFL for
a second and actually throw something at you that I
wasn't even thinking of. But I just saw this quote
come across and it's tailor made for you because it's
(01:20:19):
about a guy who's playing for one of your old teams,
and so I think you'll love this and I want
to run it by you. Did you see the recent
quote from Mike Evans on Nico Collins wide receivers Houston Texans.
He said, quote, He's kind of like a mix of
me and Julio Jones. He's six four six', five but
(01:20:44):
he can run up and cats Like, julio and he
has muscles Like, julio and he has the length like.
ME i Love nico's. Game this just caught my eye
AND i wanted to throw that at.
Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
YOU i Love.
Speaker 2 (01:20:59):
NICO i think that only injuries and you, know maybe
kind of being on in THE Anfc south has sort
of limited his name. Value if you, will, man there
aren't many better Than Nico. Collins what do you think
he can?
Speaker 4 (01:21:16):
Play? Man and what you have to do is you
have to listen to current. Players they'll tell you the.
Truth guys will tell you the. Truth players will tell
you because they have experiences with these. Guys some of
them work out in the offseason. Together some of them
(01:21:37):
you have an, admiration like WHEN i, played, Like i'm
looking At Jonathan ogden, like, okay all, RIGHT i can't do.
That Orlando, pace, Okay Willie rolfe, right like this is
the era of offensive LINE i play. With they're all
(01:21:58):
in The hall Of, fame, right these. Guys so When
i'm speaking about a, contemporary, yeah we watch the most
film on. Them what people have to realize is When
i'm in, season when any players in season and we're watching,
(01:22:19):
film we're watching those players play against the team we're
about to. Play SO i get to see. It i'm
watching to see what they're doing and try to emulate,
it WHICH i. COULDN'T i can't do What Jonathan oden,
Does Willie rofe they're one hundred pounds bigger than me
(01:22:44):
and three inches but that's so when we're watching, stuff
when other receivers are watching other receivers and watching how
they attack the secondary and come out of their, breaks
listen to what they're talking, about because it's a real.
Thing that's a heck of a. Compliment, yep AND i.
Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
Agree, yeah he is someone who gets left out of
this constant conversation Justin, Jefferson Jamar, chase you, know Maybe Tyreek,
Hill Ceedee. Lamb you get a few of these, names
and every.
Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
Kind of bandies this about back and.
Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
Forth you don't Hear Nico collins, Name but, MAN i
think HE'S i think he's right right.
Speaker 4 (01:23:33):
There, yeah and hopefully he can stay healthy and there's
be a breakout year for him and The texans want.
THAT i can tell you that for.
Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
Sure for.
Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
Sure god they're receiving corps and and those damn. Injuries
the young career Of Tank, dell which you KNOW i
fear right now may may really get clogged. Up but,
anyway just a quote THAT i saw that was really,
interesting and and speaking Of Jamar, chase you AND i
(01:24:02):
had this conversation at the. TIME i still think that
this is. WILD i don't know who would run a
football team and do. THIS i don't know why a
football team would come out on the same day and
announce we have not signed one receiver to a huge,
deal but two receivers to huge. Deals look at, them
they're a package, Deal Jamar CHASE. T. Higgins look at.
(01:24:25):
Us we play fantasy. Football they are now going to
make a billion. Dollars now we can't afford our pass.
Rusher oh, oh and we've also already annoyed our first
round draft pick to the point where we can't get him.
Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
Signed he may just sit out and entered the draft
again next.
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
YEAR i may, Do, yes you, CAN.
Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
I you, know without acting LIKE i know all of
the ins and. Outs this Is Shamar, stewart by the,
way that we're talking, about and he remains holding. Out
he's seemingly got a little, goodwill like he's shown up
to mini camp and stuff to learn but just not.
(01:25:15):
Participate but he's there listening and. WATCHING i think that's
a nice, sign a good. Gesture but it was funny
Because ian threw it out to us before the show
and he's, like who do you side with? Here AND i,
GO i don't even need to know the. DETAILS i
side with whoever's going against The.
Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
Bengals you don't have to tell me. Anything, yeah that's my.
Speaker 2 (01:25:38):
Rule that's my. RULE i side with whoever is going
against The. Bengals, NOW i don't know if that's. Fair
what's your read though on what's going on. There it's
a team that seems like they should have just a lot.
More they got a lot of answers and a lot of,
questions including they've got a great answer at the biggest.
Speaker 4 (01:25:57):
QUESTION i JUST i think they're really mismanaging on the
other side of the. BALL i think the fact That
Joe burrow had the type of year he had last
year numbers, wise and they didn't make the, playoffs and,
they you, know were Just they're throwing all of their
chips behind the offense hoping that they won't start zero
(01:26:20):
to four and ride it all the way out with
the offense outscoring, people which is a crazy. NOTION i,
mean you can get away with it, defensively if you
have a historic. Defense you can get away with giving
(01:26:43):
up thirteen to fourteen points a game and get to
the playoffs and make some. Noise but you you can't
get away with trying to outscore. People you score forty
and you can't stop anybody in that. Division it just did.
Speaker 3 (01:27:01):
This it didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:27:02):
Work it doesn't work. NOW i mean not to not
to cut you, off But i'm sitting here And i'm
WATCHING i have four TVs on and on one of
the TELEVISION'S Espn. News i'm literally watching an arena full
(01:27:26):
of people watching The National Air Guitar.
Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
Championship, YES i can't believe you just brought this. Up
like this thing has local chapters to. It i've just
learned about this because at a caller to my weekday,
show he's called us twice in the last three, weeks
keeps inviting us to come down and do our show
from basically the local chapter where the winners go to
(01:27:57):
this thing that you're watching, now and it is a,
thing like with a CAPITAL, t.
Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
It's a.
Speaker 4 (01:28:04):
Thing it can't be a.
Speaker 3 (01:28:06):
Thing it's a. Thing it can't, be but it.
Speaker 4 (01:28:09):
Is it shouldn't.
Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
Be there's a lot of things in our world right
now that can't be a. Thing they are.
Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
Guys the stuff they play ON, espn THE O. Show
like the other day we had pillow fighting on remember
that year From professional Pillow, fighting just dudes in a boxing,
ring just swinging.
Speaker 4 (01:28:25):
Like pillows with.
Speaker 5 (01:28:26):
Handles you get that handles like relation.
Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
Pillows, yeah it happening out here in the.
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
World it's a. Lot it's a. Lot, yeah this can't be.
Speaker 5 (01:28:38):
It there's professional tag they show sometimes.
Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
You've never done ar guitar.
Speaker 4 (01:28:47):
Before, No, No i'm an.
Speaker 3 (01:28:48):
Athlete oh oh that was.
Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
Snooty, True like when you're an, athlete you don't have
time to make believe. Things there's actually tangible things that you're, doing, Right, like,
so as as an, ATHLETE i wouldn't have found time
to master air guitar BECAUSE i was trying to master past.
Speaker 3 (01:29:12):
PROTECTION i didn't ask you if you mastered.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
IT i asked you if you just ever done, it
like like even a karaoke bar or in the mirror
of your, bathroom like you've never been.
Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
Inspired you know, what maybe.
Speaker 4 (01:29:24):
Guitar you, know WHEN i do it in the, car purple,
rain purple rain comes.
Speaker 3 (01:29:28):
Up purple.
Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
Rain, okay, great purple you you you, know get in
touch with your inner.
Speaker 4 (01:29:34):
Prints, yes, okay definitely purple.
Speaker 3 (01:29:37):
Rain nothing wrong with. That there's nothing wrong with.
Speaker 4 (01:29:40):
That outside of, that absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
Not, okay, Okay so it's not making for GOOD tv, Either,
no all, Right but you said thousands of people are
checking it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:54):
OUT i mean there are people in the, stands like
they bought a ticket, yep to come and watch someone
make believe an.
Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
Instrument i'm a big fan of make. BELIEVE i, mean
we all do. It, well some of us just stop
when we're when we're, Kids like even. YOU i guarantee
you you you went to the playground and you counted
down that clock and threw up a buzzer.
Speaker 3 (01:30:19):
Beater for sure you. Did so let's make.
Speaker 4 (01:30:23):
Believe, okay, okay, Yeah i've done. That i've been.
Speaker 3 (01:30:27):
There you did, that but you were a. Kid i've
done your, kid you didn't do it.
Speaker 4 (01:30:31):
YESTERDAY i didn't drive myself to the playground to do.
That do you drive to the playground and then make?
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
Believe do you know how MANY nfl teams gave up
over four hundred points last? Year how many, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten,
eleven twelve?
Speaker 4 (01:31:00):
Team how many of those made the? Playoffs?
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
Oh, yeah, None, yeah that'll do.
Speaker 3 (01:31:10):
It. None do you know how many had a winning?
Record how? Many one that would be The, Bengals, yeah
at nine and.
Speaker 2 (01:31:18):
Eight they gave up four hundred and thirty four points
as compared with their four hundred and seventy two scored.
Points very impressive total as far as, yeah, RIGHT i
think only The ravens and The bills in THE. Afc
only The ravens And bills were better as far as scoring.
Points but, yeah they went nine to eight and missed the.
Playoffs and their twelve other we gave up four hundred
(01:31:40):
points or more counterparts all had losing records and all
missed the. Playoffs but The bengals responded to. That they
saw that last year and they, WENT i let's pay
both of our. Receivers let's draft a pass rusher to
replace the pass rusher that we won't, sign and then
(01:32:01):
not sign him.
Speaker 4 (01:32:02):
Either, yeah that's the equivalent to we need more cow.
Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
Baill but you know they're great for fantasy. Football, oh
The bengals are wonderful for fantasy.
Speaker 4 (01:32:16):
Teams oh, yeah they don't have to put that thing
in the, air, Right get all their skill.
Speaker 2 (01:32:23):
Positions, yeah draft all those, guys play your guys who
are playing against The, bengals all of. It it did
a lot of. Returns it's. Great so there's. That all,
right let me ask you a.
Speaker 3 (01:32:40):
Question fire.
Speaker 4 (01:32:41):
Away how Many African americans do you think you're in
the stands of the Air Guitar All Star Air.
Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
OFF i, MEAN i could try to, answer but you
don't actually have the.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Answer, YES i.
Speaker 4 (01:32:53):
Do you've looked at, everything every single DA i can
attest to. That i'll, say, two have you seen? One
there aren't. Many have you seen one? ONE i haven't
specifically seen.
Speaker 3 (01:33:09):
One, NO i.
Speaker 5 (01:33:09):
Haven't that's.
Speaker 4 (01:33:11):
Sure if this has gotten to to the to the culture,
yet what.
Speaker 3 (01:33:16):
About white people who sound? Black are? There? No?
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
Okay mary told me that today is the one year
anniversary of that.
Speaker 3 (01:33:23):
Conversation if you remember, IT i. DO i TURNED i
turned everything on.
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
Today she, goes today's one year anniversary from WHEN i
found out you were. White that was the first thing
she said to me. Today m, yep, soul you KNOW
i told. HER i, Said i'd take. It that's that's
a compliment to. Me All, Right Mark willardy From salaam
(01:33:51):
coming up. Next, uh let's get back to these two
very very large. Trades one in, baseball one in. Basketball
what do they all? Mean Steve desager's fifteen minutes away
with the information on everything that's going. On this Is

Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
Podcasts you'll see today show posted right after we get
off the air with me From. Salama Mark, WILLARD i
just saw this come across my. Feed Dave roberts says
The dodgers are planning to have Show Hey otani open
a game in the coming. Days, Quote Show hey is getting.
(01:34:50):
Antsy my guess is an inning to? Start, okay, Okay
well there's your first pitching acquisition for The.
Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
Dodgers there's. One there's.
Speaker 4 (01:35:04):
One not a bad one. Either that's pretty.
Speaker 3 (01:35:07):
Good good, lord Good, lord what a. Player this is just.
Speaker 2 (01:35:11):
Incredible BUT i like what you said earlier WHEN Jp
morosi was. On, man it's came on in The National League.
West The dodgers get a big win, tonight and so
now they hold a two, game, yeah two game edge
on The, giants three game edge on The padres at
the same, time we're not even at the halfway, mark
(01:35:33):
and so this is all starting to maybe potentially come into.
Speaker 3 (01:35:38):
Focus this is a huge move by The.
Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
Giants to go Get Raphael devers today from The Boston Red.
Sox and one part that we didn't mention about it
yet THAT i think might be my favorite part for
The giants e from the. Timing it's Not july, yet
it's not the end Of. July It's june. Fifteenth and
(01:36:01):
AS jp, said the first thing he said to us
when we asked him about it was didn't see that.
Coming SO i wonder if you'll get me this because
it was my first.
Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
Thought this trade landed right about an hour.
Speaker 2 (01:36:15):
Before you AND i were coming on the, air AND
i thought to, Myself, god you know what this trade.
Resembles this is a tiny poor man's baseball version of
The luca.
Speaker 4 (01:36:30):
Trade, OH i kind of flashed across my. MIND i
was actually gonna say something like TO jp about.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
That, yep no one saw this. Coming. Now granted that
one was star for. Star this one is star for largely.
Prospects although two of the players were on the major
league roster for The giants who went in this four player.
Deal but in terms of, like you're also trading someone
(01:37:00):
who was the presumed franchise cornerstone for the decade to.
Come this is not someone who had a contract coming.
Speaker 3 (01:37:08):
Up this is.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
Not Your, hey we're not really in, it and so
we might as well turn this into something a little rental.
Situation eight more years and hundreds of millions of dollars
still on this, deal and The giants will pick up
all of the, contract and so in terms of the
surprise level of it and the fact that a franchise
(01:37:32):
cornerstone still in his twenties is suddenly changing rosters after
that fan base thought that was their, dude that, like
there is a little bit of overlap.
Speaker 4 (01:37:44):
Here, YEAH i. THINK i think what The Dallas Mavericks
laker trade did was it really opened the door up
for gms and owners to be in to do the
thing that you shouldn't do or you were told not to.
(01:38:08):
Do AND i think it's good for. SPORT i think
it's exciting because you never know when the next one is.
Coming we're witnessing right now in. Baseball i'm sure football
is going to chime in at some point with something
that has us all scratching our head like whoa, Yeah
(01:38:32):
and so, Look i'm all for it because it makes
it number, one that makes our job. Easier but it
also it also, look it's. Entertainment you keep saying, this
like these these things are on. Television they're, entertaining and
teams are trying to be as entertaining as. Possible and
(01:38:54):
the only WAY i know how to be entertaining is
for it is to. Win and SO i think it's
it's good for the. SPORT i think it is now
here we are and the dog days of baseball talking
about a major move that's going to have ripple, effects
especially in that. Division now show, hey don't don't get it.
(01:39:18):
Twisted all of a, sudden we make the announcement today
that show hey is you, know may start, uh you,
know taking the mound everybody's clamoring for for that little
slice of of of of. Media we're not gonna let the,
giants you, know outscoop. Us and and so there's a
(01:39:45):
lot of gamesmanship being. Played AND i love that because
it just makes the game better for the, fans.
Speaker 3 (01:39:51):
No, doubt no. Doubt But i'm just like What i'm struck.
Speaker 2 (01:39:54):
BY i, mean first and, FOREMOST i always love it
as a set off the. TOP i love it when
there are teams that show their fan base, is, hey
we're willing to be, aggressive we want to go for.
This who, knows we could make a, mistake but we're
really trying to.
Speaker 3 (01:40:10):
Win like we're like you, said we're here to.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
Win it seems so, simple but there's so many professional
sports teams that are not here to do that right.
Now you, know The giants just played across The bay
for a number of years from the biggest joke in professional.
Sports they've never even considered winning since Jose canseco left.
Town AND i know that'll bother people because they used
to like cobble these like surprise playoff teams, together but
(01:40:38):
they never spent, money they.
Speaker 4 (01:40:40):
Never spent my little movie about.
Speaker 2 (01:40:42):
It, yes and now they don't even have a, city
and nobody knows what the hell's going.
Speaker 3 (01:40:46):
On so, LIKE i love.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
That but the other side of, this the surprise, nature
the fact that no one saw it, coming the fact
that It's june, fifteenth the fact that a Franchise cornerstone
is changing cities when he's having a great, year he's
having another all star level, campaign and then try this
on for SIZE.
Speaker 3 (01:41:06):
E The socks have won five in a. Row, whoa
they just swept The.
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
Yankees they have a winning, Record they have scored the
second most amount of runs in The American. League they're in, it,
Right this is not a team that's like giving.
Speaker 4 (01:41:23):
Up they're in. It or maybe they.
Speaker 3 (01:41:25):
ARE i, mean.
Speaker 4 (01:41:28):
You're not that far out of six and a half games, back, right.
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
Game play with a million games to, play and you're
The Boston Red.
Speaker 3 (01:41:39):
Sox by the, WAY i don't know if you know.
Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
This The giants now after their loss In la, tonight
they come. Home they've got tomorrow, off Then cleveland is
in Town, Tuesday wednesday And. Thursday do you know what
happens On? Friday what happens On? Friday The Red.
Speaker 3 (01:41:58):
Sox we'll visit The San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (01:42:02):
Giants ticket prices were already.
Speaker 3 (01:42:06):
High they are going to go. Up they are now. Going.
Speaker 2 (01:42:15):
Yeah, Yeah i'm not feeling sorry for. Me uh might
be feeling sorry for my kids because they ain't. Going
uh they're not gonna. Go but but but that's. Okay
you know who else would be able to get a
media passed for this if he wants?
Speaker 4 (01:42:30):
One, YEAH i mean he's a plane. Flight, also he
can throw out the first pitch if he, wanted he,
could he. Could you need to see.
Speaker 3 (01:42:37):
That he could.
Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
Probably bat right Behind Raphael devers if he. Asked he
he is the most interesting man in the. World uh
he Is steve De.
Speaker 5 (01:42:47):
Sager, Yeah halo again and, yes media credential possible for
The Bay, area completely impossible For Los angeles these. Times
run my good. Luck that is a dream. World it's
just ain't gonna. Happen type of. TiAl, no, no it's.
Speaker 4 (01:43:04):
Impossible it's astoundingly. Impossible i've been in media for twenty five.
Years it's.
Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
Impossible, yeah come on, Up i'll take.
Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
Care oh, see that's my.
Speaker 5 (01:43:13):
Guy by the, way you mentioned The Red. Sox at
thirty seven and thirty, six they're only a half game

Memphis grizzlies Traded Desmond bane To orlando for two players
and four first. ROUNDERS nba finals Continue. Monday Stanley Cup
game six Is. Tuesday you talked about ratings earlier and
(01:45:00):
have been talking about THE nba ratings as. Well compared
to other, finals these are awful ratings compared to NORMAL tv.
Channels it's just, fine thank. You but it was over
nine million viewers For wednesday Nights game three. Hockey the
next night two point six million, viewers and THAT'S tnt
And TRUE tv. Combined just go to. Record NASCAR's race
(01:45:23):
In mexico went To shane Ving gisberg AND Us men's
soccer Beat trinidad five nothing in Its Gold cup. Opener
and then we had THE Us open conclude in the
rain At, Oakmont, pennsylvania AND jj spawn is the winner
at one under, par the only golfer to finish this
tournament under. Par we did have big name golfers in this.
Tournament it is a, major after. All On friday at
(01:45:46):
ten over Par Dustin johnson missed the, cut as Did,
Bryson deshamba And Phil nicholson missed it at eight, over
And Justin thomas was twelve Over. Friday rory McElroy did
shoot sixty seven today moved up to a tie for.
Nineteenth he barely the Cut friday and shot seventy four.
Yesterday Adam, scott the, veteran started the final round today
tied for, second but shot seventy nine and tied for
(01:46:08):
twelfth place in the end With Brooks, Koepka Zander shawtley and.
Others shawfley From San Diego State. University AS i, recall
which is where this winner is, from and CAN i
just say, comparatively it's an out of nowhere major victory
and also on the course kind of out of norwhere
today BECAUSE jj spawn bogied five of the first six
(01:46:30):
holes in this final, round but he burdied the last.
Two finished with a seventy, two which was good enough
for a two stroke. Win he was the only golfer
to finish the tourney under. Par made his final putt
from sixty four feet. Away he had never made the
cut at A Us open until this, weekend had never
finished in the top twenty at any major and was
(01:46:53):
fiftieth place at this Year's. Masters this is a guy
who in twenty twenty one lost his tour card when
he dropped out of the top five hundred in the world.
Ranking his only tour win had been in twenty twenty.
TWO i say this again out. Loud the guy turned
pro in twenty. Twelve he'd been PLAYING pga events for a,
decade good, lord and had only one career victory on
(01:47:16):
tour after two hundred and thirty five events until. Today
and it's a. Major we talk about the live golf
perse always twenty million dollars to dole, out and the
majors are doing. There these signature events are doing. That
on THE PGA us opened with a purse of twenty
one and a half million. Dollars so the WINNER Jj
(01:47:37):
spawn today gets four point three million dollars for four
days of, golf which ties for the largest ever first
place check awarded at a. Major not too. Bad and
you Know rory McElroy just one point four point two million.
Dollars it was at The masters In. April but THE
(01:47:58):
Us open person we've talked about at this on the.
Show the influence of The saudi money and Lig glvegolf
making THE pga welcome give more money to, golfers exactly
what golfers should. Say THE Us open perse since just
twenty twenty, one has nearly. Doubled whoa to what we
(01:48:18):
got to today where the winner gets four point three
million And robert McIntyre the second place golfer two point three,
million third Place Victor hovlin nearly a million and a,
half and the three guys who tied for fourth nearly
nine hundred thousand. Dollars And i'd read that even if
you missed the, cut you were getting ten thousand bucks
(01:48:40):
from the. Weekend thank you for. Playing, WOW jj spawn
takes THE Us. Open what a story back.
Speaker 2 (01:48:46):
To you Incredible, Steve AND i wonder if while you
were talking you had a chance to see the breaking
news that happened while you were talking.
Speaker 3 (01:48:57):
A from what we.
Speaker 2 (01:48:59):
Got The Los Angeles dodgers have announced their starting pitcher
for tomorrow night's game against The San Diego.

you On Sunday Night, baseball hold my beer something for.
Speaker 3 (01:49:34):
You we got a little something for.
Speaker 5 (01:49:36):
You so it is that part in The dodger rotation
where this past week At San diego they had to
go with an all bullpen game because for those who aren't,
aware The, dodgers to say the, least don't have a
five man.
Speaker 3 (01:49:47):
Rotation they don't even have like a two man. Rotation
yes they.
Speaker 5 (01:49:51):
HAVE i think it's literally nine starting pitchers on the
injured list plus seven relievers currently on The so it
gets to this spot in the row rotation and they
just kind of make do with. These, well what would
Be monday And tuesday this? Week so as you, said
it might be only one inning For otani as an,
opener but, YEAH i guess technically he would be starting the.
Speaker 2 (01:50:13):
Game, Yeah LIKE i might read on this real quick
AND i don't, know BUT i don't think that they're
starting him tomorrow because The giants just Got. DEVERS i
could be convinced that they announced it right after the
game because The giants just Got. Devers, like you, know
you didn't need to announce that. Tonight who knows who?
(01:50:36):
KNOWS i, MEAN i don't. Know you, know we were
all on the, air but you guys are probably. Aware
like during the broadcast, tonight they were sitting there talking
to Like Clayton kershaw did an inning with the broadcast
from the, dugout and he sat there and was just, like,
wow awesome move By. Buster Posey devers is one of
(01:50:57):
the top ten hitters in the. Game it was very much, like,
okay game, on game, on and then, yeah as soon
as microphones entered the, clubhouse they're, Like shohotani's gonna start tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (01:51:08):
Night which just means this week he's not throwing the
LIVE vp, again which is. Right the plan was the
previous few, weekends and that's how he would ramp up because,
remember unlike other injured, pitchers they were not Sending otani
to the minor leagues for a rehab assignment or two
and taking his bat out of the lineup completely at
the major league.
Speaker 2 (01:51:27):
LEVEL i don't know how y'all, feel BUT i can
tell you this On sunday, night when The yankees are
playing The Red.

the best teams in baseball to The giants And dodgers farm.

people want to Watch New York yankees leading their.
Speaker 3 (01:53:55):
Division Aaron judge going absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:53:58):
Crazy and then you know when you get to The
central and The west in The American, League, eh you,
know market size gets a little, wonky BUT i Mean
detroit is a huge top ten market and a massive
surprise with what they're doing in The. Central, YEAH i
got unbelievable young pitching. There so, dude baseball is, uh
(01:54:22):
baseball is a. Baby, yeah baseball is on one right.
Speaker 4 (01:54:27):
Now and, look this is the perfect time for baseball
to be like that because you, know with THE nba winding,
down no, football this is this is when it hits
his stride right. Now this is a perfect. Timing these
stories are are are, needed and they're. Fantastic these, trades
all of this action going on is acts exactly what you.

is justified or, not you want to choose to let
that anger lead.
