Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Greetings and welcome in. You know, the more you prep
for things, well just expect it all to change. That
is the beauty of the sporting universe. As we get
ready for another beautiful Fox Sports Sunday, I almost said
Fox Football Sunday. Almost jumped the gun getting into the closer.
I've got football up on one of the monitors. Yes,

(00:25):
it's replay Central where we're talking about the Bills and
the Chiefs. We got some action on the pitch. Major
League Baseball will start its day soon enough, a lot
of NBA stories starting to swirl about, so I wrapped
attention to all of that. Greetings and welcome in. I'm
Mike Carmen alongside me my guy, my tag team partner,
Dan Byer. You hear him during the week with Doug
Gottlieb and Cavino and Rich Are I watch a Flex podcast.

(00:48):
We've got some smattering of stuff for the off season,
some of the division previews. We'll get deeper into the
AFC South as deep as you can go in the
AFC South in a little bit. But with a lot
of things swirling around, How are you? How was the week?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Week was good? Great, to be here, Mike.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
It's the sun is setting on this NBA year and
it will be rising again. And with the news today,
it's funny you say that you are about to say
football Sundays because Adam Schefter tweeted that there are in
ten Sundays. There's gonna be NFL football ten Sundays away.
I feel like it's twelve Sundays until the next NBA

(01:24):
season starts, because sure it is just absolutely NonStop and
at times can get tiring, but it just never ends
with the association.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, I think that's just it. Right. We barely are
shoveling the little bit of dirt on last season, right,
We've got the plaque going up to commemorate what the
thunder we're able to do. But it seems alike a
lifetime ago. There's been so much transacted because you go
straight from crowning a champion. We had the Kevin Durant
trade break while we were on air last week. That

(01:54):
took some of the no pun intended thunder ohway from
the pun fully intended to the game seven. And then
Halliburton goes down. I think we all collectively winched and grimaced,
and then less than two days later, it's like, all right,
who's getting drafted after the Trooper flag?

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Just like that, correct, And then there's another day of
the draft, which may be great for the other thirty teams.
I don't know if it's a television product that's needed,
but then again, it's summer and there's a lot of
television product that's not needed that's that's on TV, So
I get it. I actually don't have as big of
a gripe with the Thursday Mike. You say it all
the time. If you don't like it, change the channel.
So if you didn't move on, yeah, if you did

(02:33):
like the second round, move on. But now the draft
is starting to be kind of in our rearview mirror
because of free agency, and even when it doesn't seem
like it would be news that Lebron James is back
with the Lakers for next season, it sure does feel
like news, especially when you kind of start taking some
of the pieces and peeling that onion back and seeing
what's really at the core of Lebron and his future

(02:56):
in the Lakers future. Him exercising his option for next
year on the surface, not a big story, but I
think as you dig deeper and deeper, it becomes a
really really big story.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, swirling about the last week or so. And look,
we Smith and I've been talking about at a bunch
on our show during during the evenings, feeling like, all right,
that break is happening. You've got the new ownership coming in.
They're not beholden to any handshake deals that Rich Paul
and Rich Paul's got his whole other thing going on
here that we need to talk about with Phoenix because

(03:28):
you know, sometimes you see how the sausage has meant.
You know it's existing and you believe it to be true,
but sometimes you need that video proof of these things
as to how he was orchestrating things for the draft.
But the power that Clutch Sports has had within that
Laker organization the last couple of years. Again it goes
back to the well, Lebron's and his agents aren't really

(03:51):
calling the shots. This guy's the GM. Did anybody believe
that wholeheartedly?

Speaker 5 (03:55):
No?

Speaker 2 (03:55):
I think it was a coin flip trying to decide
who had the power and a situation right, But was
he going to sign a one in one for this
to continue? Or is he just exercising because who's leaving
fifty two point six million dollars on the table. Sure,
but the statement is, you know, pretty clear, right, he
knows the Lakers are building for the future, but values

(04:16):
a realistic chance of winning it all. Okay, so here's
the shot this year. We know what the second apron is,
how the math works out, it's fuzzy, will leave that
to the professionals. But all of that to say, Lakers
have spent a lot of money. So like some of
the analysis in the post, hey, Mark Walter is coming

(04:36):
in to buy this doesn't suddenly give them a carte
blanche to do unless there's a bunch of loopholes we
haven't found yet that nobody's discovered, like Major League Baseball
and deferred payments like that suddenly exists in the language,
which would I be surprised in the NBA language. They're
they're gonna do a bunch of peripheral stuff and background stuff,

(04:58):
and it's going to be a more attractive place to play.
But it doesn't suddenly give them a giant checkbook to
walk out like the end of a game show.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
No, No, and Mike.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
When I read this statement from Rich Paul and you
start to piece it together. Marriages can range in a
lot of different ways throughout the spectrum. There are marriages
that are based in love because of the deep, deep
love that each partner has for each other. There are

(05:28):
others that just work. There may not be as much
love and passion and everything, but they make it work
together and they make that marriage work. And that's what
I feel. The Lakers and Lebron James are that marriage
is each benefits from another in a certain way. They're
not necessarily truly madly in love with each other, but

(05:51):
it works for Lebron to be in LA and be
a Laker, and it worked for the Lakers to have
Lebron be in LA and wear the purple and gold.
I think think has changed now, and there's something in
this statement from Rich Paul that's a couple of things
that stood out to be. But I think things really
change with Luca because now you have that passing.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Of the torch. Anthony Davis.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
For as great of a player as he was, he
just wasn't going to be that Laker superstar to carry
the torch. And now if you're the Lakers, you're like,
how do we build around Luca? And they probably can't
wait to do that sooner rather than later. So when
Rich Paul says, and I'm quoting, he knows the Lakers
are building for the future, he understands that, but he
values a realistic chance of winning at all. That's twice

(06:36):
in the first sentence, two times in the first sentence
that he's alluding to he knows that the Lakers want
to move on building for the future. He understands that,
he gets that, he knows that. To me, that's the
franchise saying opt in. We're not going to give you
any extension after this point because we want to see
where this franchise goes. And to me, the latter part

(06:58):
of the statement, where he says, we are appreciative of
the partnership we've had for eight years with Genie and
Rob and consider the Lakers as a critical part of
his career. There's no talk about another year after that
or future years or what they could do together. That's
more of a thanks for the last eight years. And
so if Lebron James wants to play in the NBA

(07:20):
pass this upcoming season, which I think he does, it's
doesn't sound like it's going to be in a Lakers uniform.
And then now that feels all the speculation that we
can have for the next twelve months.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Wow, well to see odds, no doubt by time we
get off the absolute day for what his next team is.
Not that those aren't always just dating in the background,
but it becomes the symbolic passing of the torch as
it were Anthony Davis. It seemed like there was the
effort to do it, maybe more so by media because
we loved Anthony Davis until he basically sat out a year, sure,

(07:55):
and then he came and he was a punchline when
he was unavailable, and even now to Dallas, like there's
a lot of potential excitement for what that team could
be if they were healthy. Right, If everybody shows up
with the video game like power bar at one hundred,
that's great, But most of those guys are zapped down
to fifty percent fifteen games in and you're wondering, you know,

(08:16):
can you get to the end of that level to
reboot and reset? The answer is, I don't know. But
for the Lakers, the fact that it isn't a one
to one means he wasn't taking a dime less, right,
because you could have massaged this a little bit to
give yourself space if you really wanted to. But this

(08:36):
shows me that's fifty three million dollars. That is two
assets of mid twenties players that you can go back
into the marketplace versus a guy who probably makes you
more than that. Right, it's a winning proposition from a
business perspective. But now we're talking about getting back to
winning on the court. You've done the rest for the
last decade with Lebron in tow right, You've made a

(08:58):
lot of money. You do have one till people can
debate it. It's not coming down. I don't think there's
an asterisk hanging on it. It's not italicsized unless it's
a Wikipedia page where they want you to click into
a link to explain what happened that season down in Florida.
But otherwise it's a title. So congratulations on a job done.

(09:19):
Was it the runaway, roughshod series of years that you
thought with him playing as well as he did, well, No,
And there's a million other reasons for that part of
being you know, for the union side of it, you're
not going to take less money, right you.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Get now, yeah, right, right now?

Speaker 2 (09:37):
I mean, but they did it years ago, and what
was the other than the the Jim Gray hatred of
the show, Like you know, the Union bristled about what
they did down in Miami, sure right, and and that
was never going to happen again because the saltiness that
flowed out of that.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
The only thing that I would I would just say
to that is because we you can't see into the future.
But I do think that there's a possibility that Lebron
and I think this statement says it all will play
elsewhere after the Lakers. It's just where and for how much?
And I don't think that he's going to be asking
for a lot because what I think Lebron James wants

(10:18):
in this final year of his NBA career, first of all,
with Aaron Rodgers kind of saying this past week, yeah,
this is likely going to be it. This is probably
going to be what we're right off into the sunset
more than likely him saying that after his work with
the Steelers kind of lets you know, all right, this
is probably it for Aaron Rodgers. But you don't have

(10:40):
this in the NFL. You don't have farewell tours because
you don't play in every stadium, you don't play every team,
you don't have that opportunity, and major League Baseball they've
just started to do that where you're playing everybody every year,
but you're not in every ballpark every season. The NBA
you do. And we've seen farewell tours before with Julia
serving with Larry Bird, Kareem when guys are seeing it

(11:01):
like three times, rocking chairs given out the whole deal,
the whole deal. Miguel Cabrera did have one in baseball.
I think I just saw a recent clip of when
he called it quits. But the point is is Lebron's
gonna want a farewell to her as well, Mike, and
you know, darn well is gonna let everybody know about it,
and it's gonna be a year of celebrating Lebron like

(11:23):
this is your last chance. I don't necessarily blame him.
I would love that as well if I was, you know,
put as much into the league that I could. So
if there's anybody that deserves it, it's probably him. But
this just didn't sound like a farewell for Lebron. And
I think at some point that's what he's gonna want.
But this statement sure sounded like it's a farewell to

(11:44):
the Lakers. After this season. It wasn't even a Lebron
is excited for the twenty five twenty six season.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Running it back with Luca.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Yeah, trying to bring a title back to LA and
win number eighteen. Now there was none of that's he
knows they're building for the few. Sure he understands that
he values a realistic chance. Thanks to the last eight years,
it's been great. That's the statements. So to me, Lebron,
Rich Paul and everybody with Clutch Sports got the message.

(12:17):
The Lakers don't want Lebron back after this season, and
they're ready to move on. And so now Lebron and
the Lakers likely have to pivot as well. And Lebron
I don't think he has any desire to quit after
the season or retire after the season. So I just
think that this sets up the stage for New York
could be a possibility. Cleveland I think would been the

(12:40):
fairy tale. That's what I've always felt like. How about
signing a one year deal to go to back to
Cleveland and just do a farewell to her? Problem is
the Cavs are really good in playing for an NBA title,
so you know are in contention. So do you want
to does he is he added the piece or is
this a distraction? But I just don't think he's back
with the Lakers after this upcoming season from everything that
this state been said.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
And he also wants to compete for championships. So do
you think that podcast he dropped with Steve Nash he
got enough negative? Negative? Yeah, the rings matter. You know
ring culture. You know that you kind of chase down
to Miami and then became not quite what Kevin Durant
and Shack We're seen as doing. But you're not You're

(13:21):
not far off.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Well, I'll tell you the rings. The not chasing the
rings now sure fits the narrative because if he's just
talking about a realistic chance they're gonna be good, they
should be better.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Once you have.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
A full season of Luca, like he's not just thrown
into the mix, you would hope that you're a better
off in figuring that out. Plus they'll have the ability
in the off season to try to make some moves.
But yeah, this shirt this year reads like a goodbye
in a farewell swan song for Lebron in l a terse.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I mean this this is an extension. You know, Rich
Paul and their influence would talk about it. You know,
video we were watching before the show will bring it
back into the conversation a little bit next hour, but
you know, trying to have the invisible hand to move
pieces around. And for the Lakers with Genie Buss and
the way things have been run with Rob Polinka, you

(14:12):
had what seemed like a partnership Clutch Sports and the Lakers, right,
and it's like, all right, what do you need from Lebron?
How do we orchestrate this? Well, you brought in Luka doncicch.
That's the end. I mean, that was the beginning of
the end. And now we're getting the statement a week
after the NBA season ends.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
I think there's a very good chance that if that
deal doesn't fall in their laps where the Mavericks are
looking to get out of Luka Doncicch or out of
the Luka doncic business, that Lebron finishes his career as
a Laker.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
And now the Lakers have pivoted.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
There's even another quote that Chams had from Rich Paul
that said, we understand the difficulty in winning now while
preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's
best for Lebron at this stage in his life and career,
that just seems like spin. I think that the Lakers said, well,
have you for twenty five, twenty six, but after that,
we're going to chart our own course. And now Lebron

(15:08):
and his people are trying to angle it in a
way where, hey, we still hold all the cards here,
so we'll exercise our option and then we'll decide what
we want to do.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Yeah. I always want to have at least the appearance
of control, even sometimes it's not, because you've been able
to dictate things for twenty plus years, absolutely even to
getting people bowing to you and calling you the king.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
And the Lakers now actually have some sort of They've
got Luca, they've got that ability to be able to say,
you know what, thanks, but no thanks, that trade doesn't
fall into their laps. I think they're just resigned to
the fact that Lebron's going to play out his career
and now.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Oh, it's an interesting week though, right because we still
have to figure out what that contract looks like for Luca.
We know approximate maximums that they can offer him, right,
but Austin Reeves turned down is four year extension. He's
got to get paid. Is he worth what the marketplay?
You know what the top valuation is no chance in

(16:03):
hell in my mind right, he's a deficient defensive player
and you can find a lot of guys to score
twenty points like I like him. But you know, at
that at the evaluation of Max was two fifty. A
Max somewhere else is one to eighty nine. Someone else
wants to pay him one eighty nine for four years
he's gone. But you lose that contract, and you lose

(16:24):
Lebron's That opens up a lot of opportunity.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
To go in absolutely for Luca, and there will be
people who want to play in LA, and there will
be players that want to play for Luca.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
I've played with him.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
I felt that even in Dallas like that was going
to give them an advantage and didn't.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Necessarily.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
It took a turn where maybe Luca did have a
little bit too much power, too much say too much
about Luca. But I think that can change in LA
and makes it a very very appealing spot for anybody
that wants to play.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
So there's your early Sunday morning when Lebron back in
the news, Well, the offseason began, he had to do
something and this actually had legitimate business concerns, not just Hey,
I did a podcast with Steve Nash. We're here at
the Fox Sports Radio Los Angeles studios. He's Dan Buyer
at Dan Byro on Fox where you find him. Find
me over at Schwallodom. As we continue, we have been

(17:13):
doing the tour of fantasy division by division. Yes, Fantasy
football and drafts are underway. We've had conferences and everything else,
everybody getting together. I've had a couple of mocks already.
We'll continue to mock, and this time it's the AFC South,
so maybe we actually do the mocking for real. We'll
figure it out as we continue here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
Hi, this is Jay. I'm the producer of the Paul
Antoni Fusco Show. Usually in these promos they asked you
to listen to the show. I'm here to ask you
please don't listen to the show. The hosts are two
absolute morons who have the dumbest takes on sports imagicable.
Don't listen to the show so it can get camped.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Get him, pulleynore that fool. Listen to the Tony Fosco
Show on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcast.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
He's still moving.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Greetings and welcome back in Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Sunday,
Mike Carbon alongside Dan Bayer, thanks for being with us.
Already traversing the world of the NBA this morning Lebron
James Opson and basically says goodbye. So now, uh, I'm
gonna start fashioning a rocking chair to hand out at
a game to be named later, maybe some other sundry gifts.

(18:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
It's it feels the speculation, Mike, It sure does. You
know he's going to have a farewell tour. He's not
just going to retire, no, like he's gonna announce it
that this is going to that it will whenever it is,
it will be his last.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
So this year with the Lakers and then for now
a giant question mark. But as we know, the invisible
hand of Rich Paul always working. We've got some draft
day footage that came out that also shows that hand
and mouthpiece at work. We'll get into that next hour
on the show. But we've been doing the division by

(19:14):
division preview for fantasy football. The iwatcher Flex podcast up
wherever you get your audio downloaded, give it five stars.
We'll love you forever. Send it to friends and family
as we continue to our quest for global domination in
the fantasy realm as well as what we do here
on Fox Sports Radio. But we're talking about the AFC
South today and trying to find some sex, appeal to

(19:36):
it and excitement. Well, it's a little difficult. Texans are
the favorite to win the division. Latest odds. I'm looking
at Vegas Insider plus one ten, Jaguars at plus two sixty,
the wishing, wanting, hoping that Liam Cohen and Trevor Lawrence
will find some magic, the Colts at plus three fifty,
Daniel Jones, we'll get to him in a second, and

(19:59):
then the Tennessee time and bringing up the rear plus
eight hundred. Welcome to the NFL, cam Ward. Those are
your divisional odds. But you start looking at it for
fantasy purposes and trying to find some value. And there's
players that we like, don't get me wrong. It just
becomes for fantasy value. Where do we find them? The
quarterback position wherever. You know, whenever we start these process,

(20:19):
like you and I have been doing this a long time,
so we might look more to the run game. We
still love our three yards.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
In a class absolutely, but in the new look NFL
of PPR leagues and four thousand, forty five hundred yard passers.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
All over the place, we look to the quarterbacks. You
realize nobody from this division is ranked higher than eighteenth
at the position. CJ. Stroud comes in at number eighteen,
just ahead of Trevor Lawrence, with a little bit of
a gap when you start talking about Ward Richardson and
Daniel Jones, and when you look.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
At what the Texans have this year, it's a lot.
It's a much different feel than it was a year
ago because CJ. Stroud was coming off of that great
rookie season Mike and you had Nico Collins there, you
had Tank Dell there, and you had the addition of
Stefan Diggs. This was a year ago and you're saying, Wow,

(21:11):
sure Joe Mixon was brought in. I wasn't completely sold
on that. Mixon was magnificent for them last year. Diggs
got hurt, Tank Dell got hurt. Again and then all
of a sudden, c J. Stroud's not the same c J. Stroud.
He's dealing with his own thing, and so talk about
you know, the and this is a team, by the way,
it did make the playoffs and won a playoff game,

(21:33):
But there were such high expectations coming into last season
and the Texans some people had Super Bowl, Super Bowl
contender for what they were, and I think last year
was a little bit.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Of a letdown.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
I'm wondering if that's going to help a ranking like that, is,
if that would help the Houston Texans because you add
Nick Chubb this offseason, you still have Joe Mixon there,
but the wide receiver position, Nico Con clearly the number
one there, and then he had drafted a lot of
younger guys that can find their spots. I think that

(22:08):
could help the Houston Texans and help a guy like
c J. Stroud and that offense to be ranked in
the bottom half when it comes to fantasy.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
You know, it's fun trying to figure out cause and
effect because we do this all the time. Look at
a quarterback, he's taken however many sacks, right me being
a Bears guy, Caleb Williams, and then we start going
and trying to evaluate, well, that one's seventy percent on him,
that's thirty percent on line, that flip whatever. And for CJ. Stroud,
it was a lot of that, right, how much of
the lack of depth beyond Nico Collins went available? Did

(22:39):
you have to really give him an afford him a
chance where he had receivers that would break containment so
he could get the ball out versus holding it too long.
So trying to figure out I didn't love their offensive line,
but they graded out terribly and now for this year
it's much the same. Like I looked at Warren Sharp
has his early rankings out and he's got huge at

(23:00):
thirty second going into the year. So but you've got guys,
as you said with Mixon and Chubb, Yeah, that are
going to make a bad offensive line look adequate and
maybe are just enough with healthy wide receivers even if
they're just warm bodies plus uh to make CJ. Stroud
that much more of a weapon. This year after the

(23:21):
sophomore sloan.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Yeah, they were a much better offensive line and Stroud's
rookie season now no more Laramie Tunzel that is going
to be the key point honestly too if you look
at if you look at the division as well, when
you just look at the offensive lines, Houston's got questioned
so much so to Mike's point, some people are rating
at the worst offensive line in the NFL, and sometimes

(23:43):
that's tough to do for how bad certain.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Offensive lines are.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
The Colts obviously have Quinton Nelson, but they lost key
pieces this offseason to Minnesota, so you're replacing some interior
guys or tackles are fine. When you look at Tennessee,
they've invested in offensive line prior to drafting cam Ward.
Their previous two first round picks were linemen. They were
also active in free agency, So I'm not saying that

(24:08):
that Tennessee is the end all be all Jacksonville's questions
as well, But this is a weird division when it
comes to offensive lines, Mike, because nobody necessarily stands out.
The Colts probably would be the one that you would
you would take, just because almost by process of elimination
with the the problems with the others, I think Tennessee's
is going to be all right.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
But I do think that.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
There are question marks with Jacksonville and Houston the teams
that we think should be better.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
And then we get to the curiosity, and when we
get to the skill position players, we do have several
that rank highly enough. Jonathan Taylor still comes in at
the back end of the RB ones, but then it's
a precipitous dip from there when you look at the
rest of the division. Right etn is the guy that
never was that tank Bigsby battling him there. We look

(24:55):
at Tennessee Pollard, but he's a part timer with speed. Yeah,
So which which do you like there? I mean, now
we're talking about RB three's and rolling the dice on
which one is going to be? Give you above a
win out of that position? Uh and and just keep
going on down the line that and and for Houston,

(25:16):
if Nick Chubb's Nick Chubb of two years ago, now,
now you've got to pick your poison and then they
can both eat. But on a week to week basis,
has it become a hot hand scenario? And if CJ.
Strouds slinging it again, how much does that pull back
from what you had in the run game a year
ago with Joe Mixon. So a little bit of lever
pulling as we go.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Yeah, I find it when you look at the running
back position, there's Jonathan Taylor in Indianapolis and there's no
one else.

Speaker 3 (25:43):
Like brun of whata Khalil Herbert was that.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
I think, yeah, well they've been having a hole. They
drafted out of Northwestern last year. He was straight to.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Ir so, so there's I mean, there's not a lot
there to back up Jonathan Taylor. Your point about the Texans,
are you just trying to get seventeen games out of
a combination of Mixing and Chubb right where maybe it's
Mixing twelve and Chubb five or however, I don't necessarily
know what they're looking for in that aspect. Jacksonville, your

(26:15):
point about ETN is spot on because there's also a
different feel. Even though Doug Peterson took over for Urban Meyer,
I still felt this Trevor Lawrence Travis ETN package sort
of deal that they had felt like they were together
and now they just end you end up parting in

(26:36):
getting further further apart the more your careers are down
the line, Tink Bigsby was just a better play. Now
Liam Cohen's there with no affiliation towards Travis Etn and
you wonder, all right, if if the main objective is
to fix Trevor Lawrence, then you don't care necessarily on
what happens with Travis Etn and if he works out,

(26:58):
and if Big b is just a better player, just
play Bigsby. But yeah, and then in Tennessee again, I
don't want to say flip a coin, because you know
Pollard did have Pollard was better than he was in
his final season in Dallas. But you have a couple
of guys there where you think you know the pecking order.
But again there's just questions about the offensive line even

(27:19):
though they've invested in it. Now you have a rookie quarterback.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Can we talk about room for what you're building towards
the future and what you want to see and how
early you start implementing that because you know the active
tanking to it becomes part of the process. Because Tennessee,
by all accounts, we're still talking about a team that's
battling for one of the top picks again next year.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
Now, Mike Florida even just put on an article today
of I think it was piggybacking off of a previous
article on how Brian Callahan is on the hot seat.
You should be on the hot seat when you only
win three games, even if it's your first season, you
probably shouldn't have the leeway of you're going to need
two or three years, but especially when you make a
change in the front office. We're now Brian Callahan doesn't

(28:01):
have the people that brought him in, and they're looking
they may have somebody else in mind. It maybe do
or die early in Tennessee and I thought it would
work out. I thought, hey, let Brian Callahan go in.
Maybe this dips, it goes worse before it gets better.
But it's tough to get any worse than they were
last year. It's just I don't know if he's going
to be around. Considering the new faces in that organism.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
You get an opportunity to rebuild it all right. We
look at the wide receiver position. We do actually have
two top ten guys. We mentioned Nico Collins before and
then Brian Thomas, who had a fantastic year. For all
of the problems and inconsistencies we've seen with Trevor Lawrence,
we saw him. The curiosity though, is in Jacksonville, not
with Thomas. If he's healthy, he's a top ten play.

(28:44):
It's the how high do you value Travis Hunter.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
I don't value him fantasy wise. And this is where
I'm I'm so Brian Thomas. Last year, there was a
point we were doing a we were doing our podcast
and you mentioned, you're like, right now Brian Thomas is
second in the AFC and yards, and I'm like, there's
no way that can be true. And then he ends

(29:11):
up he was at the time, and he ended up
finishing second in the AFC and Yards, and I'm like,
how did this happen? And so even last night, I'm
looking over numbers and I looked at their I looked
at their schedule Mike that they had over where he
really made his hay over the last part of the season.
I mean there's you know, there's Titans sprinkled and there's
a bad division, you know. So I mean there really
wasn't much resistance. But you play who's on your schedule, right,

(29:35):
that's it. And and so he made hey and he
got a lot of targets. And now the Christian Kirk
battled injuries. But Christian Kirk's not there anymore. Travis Hunter,
I think part time player right now, at least early on,
Evan Ingram's no longer there, like there's it is. It
is all for Brian Thomas. I am not as high

(29:56):
on Travis Hunter right now as a play, but my goodness,
it's like who else?

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Think what else are they gonna do?

Speaker 2 (30:02):
They brought in Diami Brown from Washington. Commander's yeah, and
then we talk about the depth and running back tight
end is Brenton Strange a decided down downgrade from a
guy who caught what eighty five balls or ninety balls
or whatever the hell have An Ingram caught a year ago?

Speaker 3 (30:22):
And so if you.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
It's it's if you're looking at the Jaguars and you're
looking at how they're gonna change, it's all on Trevor Lawrence.
It's all on on his progression and what he does
with the new coaching staff. So Trevor Lawrence at least
knows Brian Thomas. You may not know everybody else. And
I just I think that is a great, great sign.

(30:43):
I wanted to come in and poop poop Brian Thomas.
I made every effort. I even talked about his bad schedule,
but I couldn't even shy away from that. Because even
if they're playing better teams. Guess what, Mike, they're gonna
be down. What are they're gonna do?

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Yes? Yes, So everything keeps coming back. You want Ryan Thomas, you.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Want to take guess at the ADP on Fantasy Pros
right now? For Travis Hunter?

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Oh geez, I'm gonna say eighty thirty. Wow, wide receivers
right now? He is thirtieth.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Way off.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Look, I would have thought low forties, you know, to
where he's a w R four, which means the final
six weeks of the season, they're just bombing it away
and whatever. So we get to the best ball scenario
to where he would end up ranking there because again
it's you know, value versus what a ranking is. You know,
we we always talk about this on the podcast. It's

(31:37):
a very different world, right sure, in terms of the
EBB and flow of a season. But yeah, he's thirty,
So you were.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
Super flex or just with all Because I looked at
it in a way, what what was the position for
its thirtieth for PPR leagues? Okay, for wide receivers, For
wide receivers, I.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Thought you were doing No, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Sorry sorry, yeah, so yeah, no, not flex position. He'd
certainly fall much further, but still that still seems a
much higher because it really does put a lot that
people all these years later still think Trevor Lawrence is
gonna come out like Gangbusters. Sure, and Liam Cohen is
the guy that cracked the code to unleash the guy

(32:16):
that we saw had climbs at all those years.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
I mean, look and looking at the names. Yeah, Jerry
Judy's below him, Jordan Addison's below them. I know those
questions of Minnesota do on this. We don't know who's
going to be the quarterback in Cleveland, but they at
least put more on Tip Khalil Shakir, Like if Travis
Hunter had Khalil Shakir's season, that's a that's a success. Absolutely,
and right now Shakers below him in those rankings.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
So well, there you go, uh post draft hype, maybe
some guys that invested in rookie cards. Shortly after the show,

it's Isaac lower Crown at the news desk. What's going on?

Speaker 6 (33:10):
I loo, well, guys.

Speaker 7 (33:11):
Those activities include legal related activities in the NBA. Esp
had reported that the US District Attorney's office is investigating
Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley on allegations of gambling related
to NBA games and prop bets Beasley. It's presently a

(33:32):
free agent, and ESPN additionally reported that he was in
serious talks with the Pistons to return on a new
three year, forty two million dollar deal, but those talks
are now on pause. Elsewhere, Lebron James is betting on himself.
Lebron opting into his fifty two point six million dollar

(33:53):
player option with the Los Angeles Lakers for next season,
according to his agent, Rich Paul. Meanwhile, Lakers forward Dorian
Finney Smith reportedly declining his fifteen point four million dollar
option for next season to become a free agent. And
there's one Major League Baseball game underway right now, the
Saint Louis Cardinals with a three to nothing lead at

(34:14):
Cleveland at the top of the third inning on a
three run home run by Nolan Gorman, his seventh home
run of the season.

Speaker 6 (34:20):
Guys, back to you.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Thanks Halo, add Isaac Low and Crown where you find him.
Check out all his calls for Angels City FC Charger season.
Just getting getting ready to go, so he's bracing for
all those fun and exciting tweets and calls that'll get there. Look,
coming up next, we do what we what we always
do here on a beautiful Sunday morning. It's games been shipped,

(34:42):
so we'll give you this to ponder for the next
two weeks. The grass will be greener on the other side.
It's coming up next here on Fox Sports Radio. You're
listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. Start yelling without turning
on the little blue light. Welcome back in. It's Fox
Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. Mike carm and Dan Byer

(35:03):
hanging out with the guys. We've got Chris, We've got
Shane of course Ilo. We're watching some action on the pitch.
It's get wild and wooly there. We got some golf.
We got some baseball, and I've got a stick microphone,
So Dan take charge.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Mike, it's time to get the Fox family together. I
don't know if it's the summertime days or whatever, but
I feel I'm going easy on you. Mike Harmon is here,
as is Chris Prefet, Producer Shay and Isaac Loncron. I
think we have the opportunity for a perfect game. Oh no, no,
no pressure now, but but there is a butt. I
also think that we could strike out, considering some of

(35:36):
the names that aren't on this list. Only looking for
top six answers, top six answers on the board. We
are a day away, now, less than a day away
from plaguetting underway at Wimbledon. Yes, what I want to
know the six men with three or more Wimbledon singles

(35:57):
titles in the Open era. That's from nineteen sixty eight
until right now. There are six players who have three
or more men's singles titles at the All England Club.
Name them three strikes in a pass, Mike Carmen, we
start with you.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
Let's see where can I possibly fail? There are so
many landmines for me, as this is not my sport.
I should buy more tennis cards. Maybe that would make
me better.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
But you know tennis names, well, you know, So let's
just start with one of the heavyways.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Let's go Jokovic right off.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
The tach Okay, Novak Djokovic, Show me Novak Djokovic. There
he is seven titles, seven titles, tied for second on
our list.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
Over to Chris Purfet.

Speaker 6 (36:38):
Sorry, remind me again, what's the threshold. It's how many titles.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Three or more?

Speaker 6 (36:44):
Okay, I don't feel as comfortable with my I'm.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
Gonna go with Roger Feederer.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
Roger Federer, show me Roger Federer. Yeah, he's got eight,
he's our number one answer. Roger Federer is off the board.
So far, so good, two for two in the feud.
Over to producer Shay, I'm.

Speaker 6 (37:02):
Gonna go the only other male name I know.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Nadell Raffael Nadal Nidal, Yeah, Natal, I thought I knew.
Is it Rafael Nadal? No, he's got two, but he
doesn't have three. Over to Isaac Loehenkron. This is going
back to nineteen sixty eight.

Speaker 8 (37:22):
Hard part begins Body Becker show me Boris Becker as
the German three time champion, one of two players with
three titles on this list going back to nineteen sixty eight.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
Mike Carmen, over.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
To you, so sixty eight. It has to have some
key component to it all, which I don't know. But
I'm gonna go back to the age that I grew
up in. How about Connors, Jimmy Connors. That's a good guess,
is it? Jimmy Connors? Again like Nidala two times honor
but not a three time I'm winner. Steve Hartman is

(38:01):
so mad over on the other side of the glass.
He is screaming Chris pet.

Speaker 9 (38:07):
Anyway, So here's let me think about this, because Alcaraz
is right on that cuff, and I know he doesn't
have three Oh right, what about Pete Sampress?

Speaker 4 (38:19):
Show me Pete Samprass. Seven titles for Pete Sampress. I
don't know if that's Steve Hartman was yelling at Isaac
Lolahan cron about over the producer, Shay, we have a
pass available, Shay.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
I'm gonna I think I know another. We have already gotten.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
Sampriss, Djokovic and Boris Becker, Okay, so looking for two
names passes available.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
I'm gonna steal that pass. Okay, let's do the pass
to me.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
I'm trying to figure out which answer to reveal to
leave it up to Isaac glahing Kron.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
We're gonna go beyond board.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
That's what I was gonna do.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
Five Wimbledon titles for Bejorn Board.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
Oh no, all right, I have.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
To out the other shoulders of Isaac Lohncron.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
You cannot be serious.

Speaker 6 (39:08):
But I hope you are.

Speaker 8 (39:09):
John McEnroe.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
We know that John McEnroe has had success at the
All England Club. I think he's one of the greatest
commentators of any.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
Sport that there is.

Speaker 4 (39:19):
I concur show me John McEnroe. Three for McEnroe in
nineteen eighty four, his rivalry with Bjorn Borg of legend.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Great job crew, actually done, guys.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
Perfect not a perfect game, but we got the win today,
skin of our teeth.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Well, because I was going Connors or McEnroe. I went
Connors and really guessed wrong.

Speaker 4 (39:45):
Andy Murray has two, Alcaraz you mentioned as two my
favorite players to find Edinburgh has two.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
So yeah, good job, good job, team.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
We got we got the job done. Thanks thanks for
cutting it off at six. Hey, he's trying to figure out.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
Maybe my feel is a little bit better. I thought, okay,
six should be good, all notable names.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Well, then again, if we added the two, what did
we have another five guys?

Speaker 3 (40:13):
Correct?

Speaker 2 (40:14):
So yeah, adding for some chaos. Hey, plenty of action
going across the NBA. We had the Draft this week.
We've got Rich Paul, we got more Lebron James, all
of that more. He's day and on Mike And this
is Fox Sports Sunday. Greetings and welcome in hour two

As we get ready for another hour and a full
slate of sporting action, Mike Harman alongside Dan Bayer active

(41:19):
first hour of things, We've watched action on the pitch,
a lot of near misses, some defenders that will have
to go pay out big fines and kangaroo court.

Speaker 1 (41:29):
Dan.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
We've got golf tournament as well that we're watching and
paying attention. Some low scores and interesting putting motions. Little
out of the tradition.

Speaker 4 (41:40):
You know, they've they've banned anchoring, but there are some
who still like to use the long putter, like ak
Sha Batiya.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
It looked like he was going full happy Gilmour that
I don't keeps gett ready for a slash.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
This looks different because he's a lefty, so Adam Scott
a little bit more normal conventional, if you will, no
offense lefties, but it does look a little different when
you're using long putter and you're using it from the
other side of the golf ball.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
That and I mean a lot of the golfers look
more like I don't want to say regular people. He
is a lanky guy, right, He's a thin, very.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
Thin, very long and wiry.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
Yeah, it's so it's a different look than a lot
of other guys are.

Speaker 4 (42:23):
And when you see Akhabatia swing off the tea, you
know it's ak Shabatia like the flexibility. Just looking at
it hurts me to be honest with you, And I'm
not a real flexible guy. Surprise, surprise, but man, it's
it's it's it's almost to like the America's got talent
guy who like has you know, trible joints.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
But yes, like yes, ac Shabatia's body.

Speaker 4 (42:46):
Can move in ways that I can only dream of
when we're talking about golf.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
We'll get you well, I mean, whatever you do with dreaming,
and I don't the hot yoga studios right over there.
We'll get you on on the road road do flexibility.
I was once told by a wrestling coach I had
the flexibility of a rock. So I'm right there with you.
No a rock, No a rock. By the way, the

(43:14):
rock had my favorite social media posts of the weekend.
There's been a lot of them that have been kind
of fun to watch. It was a picture of him
in Shack and he goes, yeah, thanks for making me
feel like Kevin Hart, because got a good full voice
between the two of them, right, seven ish feet whatever
you believe Shack to be and the Rock. While he
may list at six', five you know six to. Five

(43:37):
as we sit here in The Fox Sports radio, studios
a lot OF nba action going on the draft this past.
Week earlier we talked About Lebron james opting into his
fifty two point six million dollars deal with The. Lakers
he gets a lot of conversation, angling all, right it's,
signed and now you force your way out via? Trade is?

(43:58):
IT i want one Last jarrah Alongside, luca and THEN
i say goodbye AND i go off to ANOTHER nba.
World we don't have the one in, one but the
pressers from him and the statements From Rich paul make
it seem like we're saying goodbye and getting ahead of
this in a very business like. Way. Right there's not

(44:20):
a lot of warmth in any of the words.

Speaker 4 (44:22):
Here there was not a lot of celebratory feelings in
reading the statement released By Rich. Paul and that's WHERE
i think you really have to read between the lines
that this was a DECISION i, Believe, mike that was
made basically by The. LAKERS i think That, lebron while
he was maybe open to a lot of, things very
well felt, that you, know AND i could just play

(44:44):
out my career here and just sign extensions and continue
to play in WHAT i want to call it, Quits
i'll retire as A. Laker AND i think everything changed
with The luca trade that The lakers timetable now. Changes
they don't have to put it on cruise control Because
lebron is.

Speaker 3 (44:59):
There.

Speaker 4 (44:59):
Not you got to shape the team Around Luka doncic
and formulate how you want to move forward for the
next decade or, so And Lebron james is not a
part of that. Plan and the statements today released By
Rich paul TO espn About lebron opting in sure didn't
sound like he was super excited for the twenty twenty

(45:21):
five twenty six. Season sure just sounded like they understood
where The lakers were coming. From AND i think The
lakers are coming from a position that we're about ready
for The Lebron james era to be.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Over we'll see how it plays, out but he wants
to win. Titles understand the frustration of winning, now but
planning for the. FUTURE a lot of as our Colleague
Ben mallor would, say weasel words in terms of what
you're really trying to say a subject to. Interpretation but
the thing to pull away from, it you, know we

(45:54):
got plenty of OTHER nba to get, to is the
fact that The lakers don't have a lot of flexibility
nor do they have a lot of desertible assets to
go trade. Right as much as we can point, out it's,
like well this guy they don't want. Him it was,
like well who else?

Speaker 3 (46:08):
Does?

Speaker 2 (46:09):
Right like some of the ancillary parts Right Dalton connect
they tried to. Trade guess what that guy's now In.
Phoenix we'll get To phoenix in a minute because they
feature with Another Rich paul story from earlier this. Morning
but you, Know williams isn't available to go trade for.
Again you still need a big. Man you don't have
a lot of money to, spend and you don't have
a lot of tradable, assets. Right Jackson hayes was the

(46:29):
guy until he. Wasn't Cam reddish is then never. Was
we've been waiting on him since he left college to
become that guy In New york and all his other.
Stops that's there's nothing. There you Got Austin. Reeves he's
declined the, extension more negotiation for. Now but Like Austin,
reeves really the only asset of any substance on that

(46:51):
roster other Than lebron And.

Speaker 4 (46:52):
Lucas, sure BUT i also think you know say that
The Mark williams trade that was that did not. Happen
that it's also a trade that if you're The, lakers
you're doing it Because lebron is there and you're trying
to cash in on this. Window the. Window AND i
mentioned this earlier in the, show That lebron and The
lakers had this, marriage but it wasn't this love affair

(47:15):
between the. Team they both worked with each, other they
both worked in. Concert he did this for, Them they
did this for. Him Lebronny james think the thing is
a part of, it but it doesn't seem like these
sides were passionately in. Love but they made it. Work
they figured it out a way to move forward with
both sides. Benefiting but you didn't Have Luka doncic last.

(47:37):
Year so The lakers And lebron were kind of on
the same path mic Because lebron wanted his, stuff The
lakers wanted his, stuff so they. Worked, Well now somebody
knew is in the, picture and The lakers turned their
attention to. That So lebron isn't as important to The lakers',
future whether it be short term or long. Term SO
i think what The lakers are even saying is maybe
now there may not be the, flexibility and we don't

(47:59):
know the future of All austin, reeves but there are
draft picks that they do, have and you are, now
instead of trying to figure out a way how do
we build a team Around lebron to win a championship
this year or, next you're now, saying how do we
build this team to make sure that we are championship
competitors With luca for the next five years and step
one in that maybe to make sure That Lebron james

(48:20):
doesn't come back after twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
Six we just recognizing that it's time to say it
was a, good good. Marriage everybody got what they needed
out of the business part of. It good luck with
your due, Life. Lakers LAST i, saw we're fourteen or
sixteen to one to win THE nba. Title, now the
other story that's circulating in the, background we got to

(48:43):
Save Malik beasley and his fun for about forty minutes from.
Now but we've got THE Nba draft AND i want
to wrap my arms around all the. Right cooper flag
was the de facto number. One, literally to win a,
dollar you had to bet one hundred. Grand that's how
much of a done. Deal but we get to shake
up in the top. Five AND i know The Ace

(49:03):
bailey world is well. Traveled folks don't like the, advisor the, agent,
family advisors and all of those. Things AND i get.
THAT i wanted to bring this up because it ties
to The Lebron james because we get this clip That
isaac brought to our attention earlier this morning On Fox Sports,
Radio Rich paul on the phone With ishbia talking about

(49:26):
The Phoenix suns at number ten and, well he's directing
traffic while in.

Speaker 10 (49:31):
Traffic if you guys keep, Ten i'm gonna mention the
name and you tell me how much you like. Him come,
on ma lawak IF i can get him, there.

Speaker 3 (49:44):
Golot my first.

Speaker 10 (49:46):
Choice, okay done, Deal that's ALL i.

Speaker 8 (49:49):
Need.

Speaker 10 (49:49):
Tom i'm gonna try my best because that's our because
you are our first. Choice if he gets Past, brooklyn then,
yeah but let me make this call SO i can.

Speaker 9 (49:58):
Let you do what you need to.

Speaker 3 (49:59):
Do, yeah give you a coming? Back what you? HERE
i Will, Okay i'm thank.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
You so we talk about player, empowerment we talk about
the invisible, hand and Certainly Rich, Paul we've talked about
it at nauseum with The lakers going on many years
as to how that team was constructed around What Clutch
sports And Lebron james. Wanted here's a phone call that
finds its way out that they put out in terms
of showing their clout As, hey you know, what we'll

(50:27):
take care Of. Brooklyn just be ready to draft your
Guy lo and behold at number, Ten, tata there's malaw watch,
right and he gets. Drafted you also had Another Rich paul,
client the center From, China Henson Young hanson Or Hanson
yang depending on. Which, Yes, storier but he was a

(50:47):
projected back end second round pick that subtenly is being
drafted in the middle of the first. Round and as
much AS i, know there are front offices that take wild,
swings and you could say point and laugh and say
there are a bunch of idiots like it all just
adds up to the don't, worry we'll take care of
you over, here, here and, Here and this phone call

(51:08):
is not Exactly Adam silver didn't like The Kevin durant
news dropping on the, eve you, know on the morning
Of game. Seven he sure as hell doesn't want this
out in the.

Speaker 4 (51:18):
Press, sure and then If Matt ishbia doesn't know about,
THIS i don't think that it's the greatest look on.
Him but to your, point this was a produced piece
On Rich paul that was sent out a high def
camera THAT i know you can't see if you're listening
to us on the, app or you're driving in your,
car or however you, are that this is purposely put

(51:40):
out in this conversation was purposely. Released i'm not surprised
that this is, out but it does give the sense
That Rich paul then would try to sabotage any other
possibility to going to other. Teams at that, Point i'm
not up in arms over, it just BECAUSE i think
this has been going, on AND i think that's your.

(52:02):
Point this has just been going on in a lot
of sports for many and many. Years this is just
the most recent because it's the week of THE.

Speaker 2 (52:11):
Nba, right you're showing, us, right it's one thing for
us all to, understand, right and all nod and wink
about how the sausage is. Made go to your local governmental,
stuff go to the place you, work, whatever but to
just flagrantly just go all, right we're gonna put out
a piece to show our clout of how we can
make this stuff all, work because it flies in the

(52:32):
face because AND i brought up The a's, bailey because
there's so much handwringing over what he and you don't
have to like his, agent, right or his agent or
anybody that's related or dealing with his. Business you don't
have to like. Him but the idea that he would
try to force his hand to places he didn't want
to go and not go to this place or go

(52:52):
to that, place and everybody was quick to criticize. Him
and he's doing the same. Thing he's just not a
multi billion dollar enterprise to do. It players like in
all our walks of, life IF i have the opportunity to, say,
HEY i don't like the Shift i'm. Working, hey, boss
you know my numbers are looking pretty. GOOD i want to.
CHANGE i should be able to go and ask that

(53:14):
you could tell me to go pounce sand but to
get mad at me for doing it like He's bailey
was made out to be the like a criminal for
what he was trying to.

Speaker 4 (53:23):
Do Ace bailey should get an award for wanting to
go to The, wizards like like you should want To
like you shouldn't give to get a prize for wanting
to play IN dc like nobody else. Does nobody wants
to go. There there's there's no reason like they should honor.

Speaker 3 (53:39):
Him they.

Speaker 4 (53:39):
Should they should put up a statue right, now he's
not even on the, team like that's that's how we
need to look at the. Things and and you know
what's it's funny because you, Know i'm gonna go way
way back, age you know. MYSELF i don't remember When
John elway was trying to make his, way But i've
seen enough documentaries AND i was alive at the time
when he threatens The.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
Colts you, Know i'll just, Go i'll play.

Speaker 4 (54:02):
Baseball i'll just you, know this is what organization for
those on a. Warrea, yeah you, Know colts end up
Drafting um ultimately traded to The Denver. Broncos the part
THAT i think people don't like is the AND i
could be wrong about, this but it's Like elway was

(54:23):
was number, one AND i don't think there's much difference
to what heated then to What Ace bailey or to
What Rich paul is trying.

Speaker 8 (54:30):
To do for.

Speaker 5 (54:30):
Him.

Speaker 2 (54:30):
Williams, yeah but it's the essence of.

Speaker 4 (54:33):
What the draft, is and it's the higher pick you're
supposed to get the better of the. Player, well what's
the point of the? Draft WHICH i think is ultimately your, Point.
Mike if players don't want to go, there so there's
no advantage To brooklyn picking. Eighth If malawak doesn't want
to go, there and if he's the best player there
right like there's so then you're, saying what's the point

(54:55):
of this? Anyway AND i think that's the thing is
when we look at the, draft we, think but there's
an advantage of eight over ten or six over ten
or five over, nine that the earlier the, pick the
better off you should. Be and if agents are doing,
this that also throws the essence of the intrigue and
the value of the draft in the, Questions.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
Well it's you, know the age old. Thing you're ruining
the sanctity of college. Football it's, like then you haven't
been looking behind the curtain for forty, years fifty, years,
right all of this stuff's been going. On now it's
just a little more. Transparent in this, Case Rich paul's
saying the quiet part out loud for everybody to. Hear,
Hey i'll get you where you need to. Go and
when players do, it everybody gets. Mad now we can

(55:35):
talk about the draft in a larger sense of its
viability legally and everything, else as we have for, years
and that'll. Continue but for a, player they get killed
for trying to go to where they. Want and to your,
point dude wants to go To. Washington, hey can you
guys just give. Him we don't need any real. Compensation,

(55:56):
sure let go To. Washington yeah he wants to go.
There but it's it's just the idea that you, know
we talk out of both sides, about oh this is.
Great you, know the agent has to look out for his,
player but player raising his hand going, yeah it's not my.
Thing like the who was the kid that got drafted
by what was It toronto and they caught him on?

Speaker 4 (56:16):
Camera oh, yeah, yes, yeah it's an honest.

Speaker 2 (56:19):
Moment, Yeah now he'll get into a, room and that
was What Dwayne wade and, company you, Know and and
when you look At Danny ainge and and everybody, else they're.
Convinced once we Get Ace bailey into the, room we'll
show them what the blueprint is of what we're trying to.
Do but in that, moment, yeah it's a visceral.

Speaker 4 (56:40):
Experience Colin Murray boyle's the draft pick that had his
lips being.

Speaker 3 (56:46):
Read here's the other fact of the, Matter, MIKE.

Speaker 4 (56:52):
I Think utah looking At Ace bailey because of where
he was and the talent he, was you're feeling like
you're getting value there at. Five but in true, reality it's,
okay If i'm going to roll the dice on this
nineteen year, Old i'll just end up rolling the dice
on a different nineteen year, old, right whether if he
wants to be here or. Not if that's the, difference
then if you've got. Guys this is not to diminish

(57:15):
what scouts do in THE nba or, not but THE
nba draft is formed into something completely different than it
was thirty years, ago and so you're now just banking
on the prospects of what these kids could be instead
of what they. Are so there's a risk no matter.
What when you're just drafting a nineteen year old, kid

(57:37):
you have no idea they're going to work. Out so
if you're a team and you're saying like that's the,
point if the evaluations are somewhat, close everybody's still taking
a risk on a nineteen to twenty year old. Kid so,
ultimately if a kid says he doesn't want to, Play
Danny aings just Fell Ace bailey's talent was better than everybody,
else and by and large it felt that way throughout

(57:58):
the process that he was just a better prospect and
ended up. Falling but when you get to, ten when
you get to twelve and you get to those, spots
you're rolling the dice on.

Speaker 3 (58:08):
A lot of these guys.

Speaker 4 (58:08):
Anyway so the fact of a nineteen and twenty year,
old you're just, Saying i'll take my chance on this
kid instead of on that.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
Kid and if evaluation, wise with As, bailey if he's
that much better right in your evaluation over the next,
guy don't you think that's probably the same on a
bunch of other. Boards so if he doesn't want to
be In. Utah is he now a tradable. Asset it
might be a little bit of a distressed property to a,
degree but if it's going to get him to where
he wants to, go then you might be able to

(58:37):
pick up a couple of draft picks and a player and.
WHATEVER i don't want to do with.

Speaker 5 (58:41):
That.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
Yeah, yeah because.

Speaker 2 (58:42):
You're, utah you're not running up suddenly correct in The Western.

Speaker 4 (58:46):
Conference and if You're, utah you can also say just
WHAT i, said he's a nineteen year old. Kid he
doesn't know what he doesn't, know, right and so like
we'll bring him, in we'll show him we have trust
in our. Process that's, it and that's what it. Is
it's why it's so much of a. Crapshoot it's more
interesting to see teams maneuver around and see what they're

(59:06):
trying to set up, than you, know than do. ANYTHING i,
mean The hawks were considered the you, know the huge
winner for the tray that they pulled off that didn't
include a pick until next.

Speaker 2 (59:15):
Year so the other winner of the draft Obviously Colin
cowhard because he got. Mentioned Cedric coward gets called budding
a free agent to be in The Media World Malika
andrews with the colin cowhard Because i'm a. NERD i
had to look that.

Speaker 4 (59:34):
Up, well names popping your, head THE cc initials were.

Speaker 2 (59:40):
There it. Happens, SEE i wanted something, more you, know
dig it a little deeper At Dan byer On fox

some health issues getting off the. Road that's the voice
In Chris. Burfett you Know Dan byer At Dan byer

lot about THE nba, today a lot of. Activity you
can find the podcast they all have that up going
up in about a half hour's, time as well as

(01:01:03):
video of The lebron reaction as he opted. In but
why don't we before we talk About Katel marte and
what all went down and trying to sort out that
incident In, Chicago let's talk To Isaac loewingron and get
ourselves an update of what else is going on in
our sporting, Universe.

Speaker 7 (01:01:21):
Hilo even MORE nba news coming down as we, speak
AS espn just reported That Julius randall has agreed to
a new three, year one hundred million dollar deal to
stay with The Minnesota, Timberwolves Lebron james opting into his
fifty two point six million dollar player option with The
Los Angeles lakers for next.

Speaker 6 (01:01:40):
Season according to his, Agent Rich.

Speaker 7 (01:01:42):
Paul huge news in THE nba, ELSEWHERE espn reporting THE
Us District Attorney's office is Investigating Detroit pistons Guard Malik
beasley on allegations of gambling relating TO nba games and
prop bets during the twenty two twenty three to twenty
four season When beasley played For Milwaukee. Now according TO,

(01:02:05):
espn at least one prominent sportsbook detected unusually heavy betting
interest On beasley's statistics beginning Around january of twenty twenty.
Four one, example A january, thirty, first twenty twenty four
game in which the odds On beasley recording fewer than
two and a half rebounds saw a significant late surge

(01:02:27):
of action on the. Under oddly, Enough beasley wound up
with six rebounds in the, game so those bets wound up.
Losing One Major league baseball game going on right, now
The Saint Louis cardinals a three to nothing lead At
cleveland after Five, finally. GUYS a television station In spain
was conducting live interviews with fans on the street about

(01:02:47):
great soccer players when the segment was crashed by a
random fan of The Philadelphia.

Speaker 5 (01:02:54):
Eagles listen he heard crazy they Start eli four Ward
bes definitely go.

Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
To, Yes, YES i vote. Yes H hur's the best
quarterback in THE.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Nfl let's go.

Speaker 7 (01:03:08):
The Philadelphia eagles a worldwide sensation back to you, Guys
thanks so.

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
Much. Ilo that's a good. One fans. Everywhere that and
if you see a microphone you just go and chout
birds AND i hope it goes.

Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
VIRAL i was gonna not only In, spain but it
feels like it's a Very philadelphia. Thing oh, no, absolutely
the victory lap is still ongoing from the Super.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Bowl how could you? Not you got you got another
month to feast on it before we leave.

Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
It he was gonna say leave it a week week.
Three and if they're you, know if there's a slow
start for The, eagles my how things will.

Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
Change.

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Well yet it's their big softball game that they get
together and raise raise money for. Charity some good line
one liners About cooper De. Jene he ended up winning
their home run, derby But Sakwan barkley saying That washington
never called Nor dallas when he was a free, agent
just adding to The, orange you might as well just
stand there with a giant bucket Of himalay And Pink.

Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
Salt, well, Heck Joe shane thought that there could be
an opportunity for him to come. Back it just didn't work.
Out just didn't work. Out maybe come.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Back, yeah it didn't happen At Isaac loncrow where you Find,
ilo Find dan At Nambyron, fox find me over At Swollen. Dome,
now story that's making the, round and we'll get back
into THE, nba The Milie beasley, story since it touches
Your Milwaukee. Bucks we'll touch on that before we get
out of here. Today but to Tell marte earlier this,
WEEK i had an. Incident it's much publicized the last

(01:04:34):
couple of days and trying to parse through what actually
happened against The White sox where he's in. Tears you've
got the dugout turning to the, crowd shouting obscenities and
shouting down the fans. Removed ultimately he's, named he's banned
by all baseball teams for. Life and it goes through

(01:04:55):
and then On friday there was a. Release you, know
two Time All star and budding young star in the.
Game here's through The spanish language Journalist Jansen poohols quote
a fan was up on the dugout shouting things about my.
Mother he was, like last, NIGHT i sent a message
to your. Mother, now the crux of it is that

(01:05:19):
the twenty two year old spectator threw this out and
That marte's mom had died in a car accident in twenty.
SEVENTEEN i didn't know. THAT i don't know the man's,
history and this becomes one of those you, know we've
had famous hecklers in sports, forever, right whether it's fictional

(01:05:40):
And Happy, gilmore whether it's the the you, Know Robert
vickers reading from a book behind benches AT nba, games
there have been guys twenty two year old when throwing
that struck me as a you know your mom joke
that went horribly, wrong, Right and maybe he did deep

(01:06:02):
research on all the players and had something cooked up
for each of them in their, past but this struck.
Me and to this, POINT i haven't seen anything that
he would have known that this had happened To marte's,
mom other Than i'll get try to get in your. Head.

Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
Yeah on the, surface and when this came, out it
felt like it was a fan that purposely said something
To marte about his, mother who tragically passed in that
car accident eight years. Ago that's what it seemed, like
is it brought him to tears now that we know
a little bit. More and to your, point it was
a mama, joke if you, will in saying what he,

(01:06:41):
SAID i haven't changed my point because there's some people
who are critical Of martes for getting so, emotional because
they're saying you got to be stronger as a. PLAYER
i just think that that stuff is off. Limits and
when you lose a, parent you lose it. Tragically and
and then he explained in the, interview WAS i found
out In, Chicago so WHENEVER i go To, chicago this

(01:07:04):
is you, know it's not easy for me because those
memories come. Up and anybody who's, lost anybody that's close to,
them knows some days are better than, others and certain
things are triggered by. Others so maybe just him being
In chicago just puts him on edge no matter when it.
Happens AND i Wondered mike because of how this the

(01:07:26):
story has continued to go on because now he's doing that.
Interview this happened In Tuesday night's. Game On, wednesday it
was still being talked about The White sox were putting
up messages we Support Cantel. Marte so now he's asked about.
That when he comes Home, friday is getting a standing
ovation from the home. Crowd Not he obviously will never

(01:07:49):
forget and never wants to forget his mother's. Memory but
this incident and his emotions are now continuingly to be
dragged out over five days because of the actions of
one twenty two year old who didn't know where the line.
Was and that's the point THAT i always come back,
to is it may seem, innocent but it's one of
those you, know bleep around and find, out like sometimes

(01:08:12):
you cross the. Line you roll us through a stop, sign,
right no big. Deal you roll through a stop sign
and hit somebody on a, bike much bigger, deal, right
the same actions of rolling through a stop. Sign AND
i feel it's the same thing with the. Guys, LISTEN
i rolled through stop signs all the. Time, yeah but
this is what. Happened could Tell, marte not that it necessarily.

(01:08:36):
Matters went over four and struck out twice On. Wednesday On,
friday went over, four struck out three times in.

Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
The game against The.

Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
Marlins guess how many other times could Tell marte has
struck out three times in a game this.

Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
Year it never. Happened it hasn't happened.

Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
Yet this is.

Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
Obviously affecting. Him homer yesterday kind of got off but
still went one for. Four it's a three hundred hitter
who's one for twelve since this has, happened and so
now we're talking about it affecting his on. Field it's
still going on. Here that's the, Part, mike where, yeah
it's a mama, joke AND i understand that you know
your fans and you, heckle but when you cross the,

(01:09:16):
line you cross the. LINE i don't know if the
fans should be banned for life from. Anywhere maybe there's
a way, financially maybe he does something to ingratiate himself
back With Major League. Baseball but something has to be,
done because this affected could Tell marte way more than
to think any of us could. Believe and that's, why
for as much as more information comes, out AND i
want to give the heckler a little bit of benefit

(01:09:38):
of the doubt that he just didn't know the, situation
sometimes you got to pay for.

Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
Your, crimes AND i feel that this is a time
where that has to have.

Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
Pretty substantive paying for a. Crime, again you, know stuff
gets shouted And i'm, sorry LIKE i DON'T i didn't
Know mart's. Thing and so there's the line of. Maliciousness
like IF i roll through a stop SIDN i Know
i'm rolling through a stop. Sign, sure but they.

Speaker 4 (01:10:03):
Said your your mom to eight Other diamondbacks and they
all would have laughed at off and.

Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
He might have been shouting stuff all. Night we like
but like, one but that's the one that obviously it,
happens and it pushes, forward and, like fan behavior is
an age construct that we're trying to figure out and
wrap our arms around in a new new. Age, Right
we've SEEN nba players throw guys. Out we've had the

(01:10:29):
W nba did a whole investigation on something that never
got said in an arena and was never proven to
have been said in terms of racial epithets and, whatever
which IS i think you know that you know what
the intent of what you're. Saying if those are, true
this IS i, AGAIN i don't want to take it

(01:10:52):
to a zero, level but this is a twenty two
year old kid that's just running your mom, joke and
there's to the wrong. Guy unfortunately you got the wrong.

Speaker 4 (01:11:02):
Guy and look at the ramifications Like diamondbacks haven't won
a game SINCE i don't know if that's because of
my father playing And Corbyn carrol's on THE il don't
have pitching because there's No Corbyn. Burns BUT i don't
think it's been a, great great necessarily time FOR i
can Tell marte or The diamondbacks during all of.

Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
That i'm not saying it. IS i just thought the all,
right your lifetime band.

Speaker 4 (01:11:24):
Was was pretty not lifetime. Indefinitely so, no just so
that that's the, point like do you do? Something does
this fan somehow figure out a? Way does he help a,
cause does he help a? Charity does he do something
to be, Like, HEY i was twenty two years, OLD
i said something, stupid my. BAD i think that's how
you can, right you're. Wrong BUT i JUST i feel

(01:11:46):
that there was a portion of the people who were just, like, Oh,
marte you got a tough. ENOUGH i can't believe that
you cry and this is you, know just a flipping.
Comment maybe it, was but it's obviously affected someone to
the point where he brought a grown man to.

Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Tears, well that stuff is always going to be on
the surface and being back In, chicago certainly it's front
of mine for, him, sure, right whatever the, circumstance however
long because we also don't, know like how long you
know it played played, out like in terms of his
time In chicago and his mom and the accident and
all of. That it's eight years. Later Does mater's always

(01:12:24):
that doesn't, Matter it's always going to be under the.
Surface and if it took one one, COMMENT i DON'T
i don't know how many times he tried to engage
him with a comment to where maybe it was a
tipping point or maybe it was just there waiting for
the first iteration of such a. Sting either, way it's

(01:12:45):
it's a terrible. Situation there's no Question.

Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
Tory la knew, it and it was pointing the guy, out,
yeah and immediately was, like this is not going to have.

Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
You, ALSO i, mean It's tuesday.

Speaker 4 (01:12:56):
Night White socks aren't playing great, baseball so there's not
thirty thousand fans, there so comments get heard, more especially
when you're as close as they, Were so all of
those instances end up playing In BUT i JUST, i you,
KNOW i refuse to make this guy be the, victim
even THOUGH i think that there's ways that he could
get back. IN i get it that his comment, was

(01:13:17):
it's also being twenty two and at a baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
Game, Yeah, no it's certainly not a. Victimhood it's like
trying to find what the right term to put it.
On it just seemed pretty severe for what might have
been a things you would normally joke with folks. About,
yeah and like we hear conversations in the if you
go to games all the time that rise to levels
where you're shocked that guys don't turn around and acknowledge

(01:13:42):
right that it. Brushes in this, Case marte, said fans
said the thing to, him and it brought all of
those feelings. Back AND i feel for him and his,
family and, hopefully you, know he can find whatever piece
he needs with it to get back on on level
ground in his, play because certainly the last couple of,

(01:14:03):
days as you pointed out the, stats you got a
whole team that's been.

Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
Affected, yeah unfortunate. Situation He's Dan.

Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Byers I'm Mike. Garbon now let's. Go as we continue
here At Fox Sports, radio we'll circle back to THE
nba and the question of gambling and ties And Malik
beasley what it all means and how you can throw
off the scent or try to as we talk about

Radio we know you got a lot of entertainment information
options out. There we're, pleased, proud excited to be part

(01:15:17):
of the mix with you At Dan Byron fox where
you Find dan find me over At Swollen. Dome as
we've got a full slate of activity across the sporting
landscape in what is normally called the dead. Zone once THE,
nba the net gets cut. Down not that those guys
really seem like they were celebrating the way we normally
seem titles maybe a little more, subdued but we god

(01:15:41):
that we had the, draft and now other than The
Major League Baseball All Star, Game i'll.

Speaker 4 (01:15:46):
Tell you, What, yeah we'll have free agency and stuff
happening in THE nba like it has been. THERE i
think there are a couple of dead spots people don't.
Realize the final two weeks Of, february right after The Super. Bowl,
sure even though we have AN Nba All Star game
and the data on a five, hundred you're show in
football mode that there's just this withdrawal that naturally.

Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
Happens and Then Mark.

Speaker 4 (01:16:06):
March madness is such a machine that When march comes,
around you kind of kick into.

Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
That but it's a weird.

Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
Spot Mid august is also funky BECAUSE i think in
Late july we're excited.

Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
For training camps to open and football is.

Speaker 4 (01:16:20):
Here but after a couple of weeks of preseason, football you're,
like all, right, Okay i'm ready to let's get to
and baseball trade deadline has. Passed you haven't hit the stretch,
Run so that's another spot. Here but at least THE
nba with a couple of the news, today you, know
The timberwolves bringing Back Julius. Randall i'm just the only
Reason i'm curious on Where minnesota goes is how do

(01:16:42):
you improve on losing in The Western Conference finals in
five games two years in a. Row like last year
was the big splash of The Karl Anthony towns trade
to bring In Julius. Randall now it's what do The
timberwolves do and bringing Back Nas reed and now bringing
Back Julius, randall and Obviously Anthony edwards is the key piece.

(01:17:04):
There it's now finding everybody else around those three are
figuring out what's going to be the recipe for, success
because you've shown you can get that. Far but now
you've got to figure out the moves to put you
over the. Top and, Sometimes i'd say more often than,
Not mike teams try to figure out.

Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
Those moves and they end up going in. Reverse so
we'll see What minnesota ends up.

Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
Doing Nas reid five, years one hundred and twenty five million, dollars,
congratulations to. Him here's What i'd do IF i were
the video review crew of The. Timberwolves we can do
a lot of digital, wizardry you know those. Apps or
it's like MAYBE i don't want this person in this.
PHOTO i look really good, knit but let's get them.
Out go back and do that With Anthony edwards for

(01:17:46):
all the times he, disappeared heyn see what we're doing.
Here sure it's four on five on? Defense where are you?
Offensively you see this? Possession you were there and it's
just a blank's standing outside of the three point arc
where you didn't get involved in the float at.

Speaker 4 (01:18:03):
ALL i wasn't hunting For Chris finch's. Job that's never
WHAT i was. DOING i just imposed the, question like
around the top of The Western Conference, finals if the
Two wolves didn't get it, done what do they? Do
and then THE nba look at the Next it's easy
to be like head, coach see you, Later Tom, thimoo,
bye you know you're the. Problem let's get somebody else in.
Here and a lot of times it ends up being

(01:18:25):
the head. Coach by all, Accounts Chris finch has a
great relationship with all of his. Players the opposite of
maybe what it is like In New. York they're not
making a change. THERE i was never saying, that BUT
i just am. WONDERING i think it's just how Does.
Minnesota what do they think is the way that they
can get over the top when they've, been you, know
stopped at the same point the last two, Seasons.

Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
Nix continue their curious. Search AND i say that with
the broad brush because they originally tried to poach guys
that we started the interview. Process now that it's, expanded
Maybe Don staley comes in for a, conversation so all
of that and trying to figure out.

Speaker 4 (01:19:01):
Directionality why would she want to Leave South? Carolina you,
know all?

Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
Right and how but maybe you're just trying to learn. Something, yeah,
WIN i get.

Speaker 4 (01:19:09):
It coaching In New, york coaching The nicks would be,
something but a cheer doesn't seem to be a great
success for anybody that's been there the last twenty plus.

Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Years all, right here's the last, thing The belik Be easily.
Story we're starting to get more and more. Details ilo
actually had a game stat where there was a lot
of pressure downward On beasley's rebounding total and then he
went over you, know you try to throw the scent off. Right,
yes you've made a lot of money in AN nba.
Career you could throw money at. It lose, there hoping

(01:19:40):
they don't pay attention to the next ten games that you.

Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
Play maybe he was just trying to trying to spite
a bunch of people that didn't like and reeled him
in on the on the.

Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
Scheme that's a way to get some friends to never call.

Speaker 4 (01:19:51):
It you'll, say what now as A bucks, fan and
If i'm honest And I'm Damian, lillard not this past,
season but the year.

Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
BEFORE i just now blame it all On. Beasley there you.

Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Go, yeah investigation going up the numbers With Malik beasley
over some fixing of his stats and prop. Bets so
a big. Investigation uh more on that as the week,
unfolds because, well we're just getting warmed. Up He's, Dan I'm.
