of the curve with the conversation last week about cal
Rawley and Aaron Judge. You and I talked about that
last week about the MVP. Then the rest of the
week that's all I heard, And I was like, no, Carrie,
and now are you discussed We did that. We did
that already, But we are going to dive into a
little bit more cal Rawley later a little you know

nfl our favorite, her favorite, if you know spicy, it
is spicy. It is all of the things, but let's
dive into it. Carrie. A week ago we sat here,
and so much has happened. I know, Game seven, we
will talk about that later, but more importantly, the NBA
Draft just happened a bit of a waste of my time,
a smidge and I for many reasons, but a couple

of things that annoyed me. We talked about marketing with
the NBA Finals. Yep, no commercial for the NBA Finals,
but there was a nice commercial for the NBA Draft
about Cooper Flag. Of course. Oh, I was like, Oh,
this is all I was asking for. Plant that flag,
Plant that flag. All I was asking for is a
little bit of marketing, and we got it for NBA Draft.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
So you're saying I didn't care about the NBA fan,
he didn't care about.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
The NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
And what's funny, was like, we all knew Cooper Flag
was gonna go number one unless Nico Harrison decided to,
you know, be Nico. I was really hoping for that, Carrie.

No, No, I was literally I mean, you know, Cooper
Flag was going number one, But I still was like,
what if.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Like the start training the first round pick?

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Yeah, for came I logimle. Wait wait wait, I came
as ninety two years old going to help.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
That's what they're doing. That's exactly what they're doing. But
give me your thoughts just as a MAVs fan all
I mean, and a Duke fan. Yeah, all five of
them being drafted. Okay, give me quick thoughts on how
you feel about Duke for next year and how do
you feel about the Mavericks. We know Kyrie Irving has
opted in. The MAVs look like a real good team

right now on the surface, of course, how do you feel.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Number one Duke? Obviously it's an NBA machine right now. Yeah,
that's what John Shire is doing these drafting guys now
because the Lance Kape pass changed right as not it's
it's we're getting the best available player and that's you know,
Duke a track stack and they have a little cachet
and then a little in a little moolah. I'm sure,
and so you see that starting five go. The only

thing I was really upset about when I thought about it,
Like when I was like, oh they all got drafted, cool,
I was like, why didn't they win the championship? Like
that was my that was my thought immediately like, we
can't keep losing these championship games, of these final fours
when you have these type of players. So I thought
that and Duke will be fine. This team, the team
coming back will be good as well. But when I

look at all five guys that got drafted, all five
are ready to play in the NBA. They all will
make a difference on their team whatever that difference. Yes,
some will be role players obviously, but you know Canipple
and Flag and Model Watch those guys have the potential
to be stars.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
And so I'm excited to see that.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
But as far as the Mavericks go, adding Cooper Flag
to that rotation, it's just it's gonna be seamless because
he doesn't do one thing extremely well yet besides defense,
he does do that well, but on the offensive end,
he can actually facilitate score, push the tempo. I know
Dallas wants to push the tempo more and so him

having the ball in his hands more will help that.
And it seems like all the words coming out right now,
he's going to play point guard in the beginning of
the year, So that's going to help because he can
do that as well.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
I'm just excited. Man A team.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
On paper, they're right there in contention to contend absolutely in.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
A tough West. We're saying that in a tough West,
they look like they are already a team that you
have to mark on your calendar that it's not going
to be an easy win. There was sound of Jason Kidd,
but you know what, I don't want to play it
because he says twenty seven times in twenty five seconds.
But he does say that he wants to make Cooper
flag uncomfortable and that he wants him to run the point. Now,

obviously you want him to run the point more so
now with Kyrie Irving's still a little bit injured, right,
like let him do that, and like you said, he
can't do it. And then Cooper Flagg and his press
conference said that we're gonna play positionless basketball. And it
does seem like the MAVs have that ability.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
Oh yes they do. I mean they're starting five. Would
be one of the tall was in the NBA by far,
by far, I mean, right now, just without Kyrie, they're
talking about the Angel Williams, I mean, the Lelo coming
in right and he's he's six five sixty six. So
if that's the case, that's six five sixty six. It
looks like Clay will be there six six six seven,

Cooper six eight a D six ten six eleven.

Can I just sorry seven to one? Can I just
tell you, for like a hot second, I forgot that
Klay Thompson was on that team for a hot like
right now you said that. I was like, oh my goodness,
for a hot second, what a team.

On the bench right now, and with Cooper flag coming
into this, it's they were already potentially scary obviously, like
losing Kyrie was. We didn't really see what the Maps
were capable of after that trade. That will never forget
thinking Nico Harrison, but an un I I like what
the Maps can do, and I just it's exciting because

the Western Conference is already so jam packed with talent
that okay, c cannot feel like we're gonna run this
background the Laurels not at all. We see what the
Rockets are doing, and now we got the Maps, but
here we are in the draft. I was just like
annoyed because Carrie, I learned nothing watching this NBA draft.
You didn't no, I A lot of the question like

how do you feel oh yeah, yes, I'm sorry. Can
we ask them on more? Let me learn something about that?

Yeah, that wasn't It wasn't. Yes, I went with you.

I wanted more specific question, like let me learn something
about them, especially like somebody like me. I watch college basketball,
but I'm not like you. I don't have a team.
There's I'm not diving into the intricate details of these players.
Give me a little bit of intricate detail. You should
have done research on at least your top ten, and
then tell me something. Let me learn something that isn't
what I already know. On the surface, I felt like

that was a missed opportunity. There was a I don't
know why it's a two hour show, two and a half,
how long it was. It takes way too long, and
it takes way too long. And I also it can't
stand that we know these trades are happening, and then
they draft a player, they make them take a picture
with the hat of a team that they're not going
to be on.

And even the draft, I mean, you don't need five minutes.
You know who you're going to draft, you know exactly

trying to interview the moms and the king. I'm like,
I don't want to know, not want right now? No,
not yet, let's hear about them correct.

And like specifics. How do you think you're gonna fit
into this team with your skill set? Like even me
right now, Like I don't know much. But it's like,
how did you not get more specific into your interviews?

shot of him having this conversation. What is the purpose?
What is the purpose of you releasing this video?

is what we kept hearing, kept hearing that he only
wanted to be drafted by specific teams and that he
didn't want other teams. Goes into this draft and gets
drafted by the Utah Jazz fifth overall in a report
where he didn't want to go to the Utah Jazz.
Is so, one, who do you think you are?

First of all, who do you think you are? Honestly? Honestly?
And I don't mean that to like, you know, to
talk smack. I'm just like, who do you think you are?
Who gave you this advice to do this? And now?
Is there not even more pressure on him to be
good coming out of the gate because of how he

has handled himself. Yep, there's almost like a target on
your back, not by other players.

First, obviously we have the rookie where we report, and
then you know, you feel like you're hot stuff, and
you feel like, yeah, this is easy, right, this is
what I'm supposed to do. Then you see the veterans
come in and you see like automatically the sense of
oh all right, let me take a step back here,
let me humble myself really quickly. Because if there's if
your teammates don't like you, if your teammates don't accept you,

it will be a hard time for you in that league.
And so to ruffle feathers that way and to have
a sense of entitlement coming in is not the way
to go.

That's what I'm saying. You weren't Cooper Flag. I feel
like if one person was going to have any sort
of dictating where they went or any sort of entitlement.
It was Cooper Flag, But other than that, I don't
know who gave you this advice because this image, this
personality that you're giving off. You're right, don't you want
to walk into a locker room that welcomes you with
open arms. Instead, you're walking into a locker room where

people might be side eyeing you because you said you
didn't want to go to hear here, and then it
took you a hot second to get there. Apparently he's
there now came a little later than other players went
to their respective teams that they were drafted by. It's
just a bad look. And I applaud the Utah Jazz
for saying, we don't care. Right watch us pick you,

and you're gonna deal with it.

We're taking We're gonna take you, and if it ends
up not working out, it's because it didn't work out.
But we went with what we wanted, not because of
what you told us. And what's even more annoying about

so you're just kind of like, dude, you already made
some money. Here you are in the NBA.

Where is the gratitude, But that's you just said you
hit something right there with the money before. So these
kids now are coming in with money, and so if
you're not number one, you're not number two, Like from
two to ten, it's not that big a difference. So
when they talk about money, So now you're giving a

to say, since the money is not an issue, let's
go where we want to go. And I think that's
part of it too. That's another conversation, but that's part
of it as well.

to say that, but there's a possibility.

Because I actually thought the exact opposite right where it's like,
now you're coming in already with a little bit of money,
so you don't have to be desperate to try and
make money immediately, like you should come in a little
bit more like, Okay, I've I've had money in my pocket,
like a little bit of side relief because a lot
of players, a lot of times up until the last
couple of years, you went into the draft with zero
money in your pocket legally.

But but what are those college players doing now? They're
choosing their destinations off of money they are in college? Yeah,
not even its Bailey went the Rutgers. He wouldn't go
to Rutgers normally probably right, but they got he got
paid the bag, right, and so that's part of that's
part of the DNA.

Now, I don't like that. I know, that's why I
don't like that. And he we're obviously diving into Ace

what do we want.

To talk about? Listen, we just let's start right away
with Ace Bailey, Like, what was he thinking? Who gave
him bad advice? Does he now have a bigger target
on his back now he has to deliver immediately because
of how he handled the whole start of his NBA career.

Speaker 10 (19:26):
Yeah, I'll be honest. I mean I actually thought it
was kind of the biggest non story that I've frankly
ever seen. You know, I understand, like I think, we
just live in this player empowerment world where we just
assume that because somebody says something, that teams have to
abide by it. And it's like, if that's the exact opposite.

(19:49):
You're a rookie, you can't go back to college. Whoever
drafts you is going to own your draft rights for
the next four years. So are you just not going
to play basketball for the next four years? You know,
he's already giving up millions by basically trying to pick
his spot. Are you going to give up millions more
and go play overseas for four years? So I really
thought it wasn't a big story, and I think, you know,

(20:11):
what was kind of interesting to me is two things
about trying to be quick is that, you know, one,
I don't really blame him or trying to dictate where
he wanted to go. Listen at his career, it's whatever.
But I also thought it was, you know, very savvy
of the Jazz to take him, because you know, I
like him, I don't love him as a talent, but
the Jazz have been in this tank mode for two

(20:33):
three four years now. Keep expecting, hoping that they really
get in position to get that number one pick, that
star player. It hasn't happened. And so if you can
hypothetically get the number two guy on the board at
number five or six or wherever they drafted, I actually
thought it was really, really really savvy on their part. Again,
there was never a scenario where he wasn't reporting. I

(20:54):
don't think there's any extra target. I think it's just
kind of going to be a cliff known. He's either
going to be as good as expected in the are
gonna look like geniuses, or the opposite is gonna happen.
He's gonna be kind of whatever. We're gonna say, wow,
we should just see those red flags during the draft cycle.
But I really thought it was kind of a non story.
I think you can argue that his his his agency
did him poorly, but there was never a moment where

he wasn't going to report to whoever drafted him.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
Aaron, we all know that Duke's whole star in five
got drafted. Obviously. You know, I'm a big Duke guy
with three guys.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
That one out.

Exactly, No, they got three guys in a lot of you, right, Obviously,
everybody knows about Cooper and some people may know about
Kanka Nipple, But I want to talk about Kamal Mala
watch a little bit here. I I'm I'm very high
on him. I think his selling is extremely high. And
we only got a little sneak peek of what he
could do at Duke. A lot of guys, a lot
of people don't know about him. But can you break
break down Kama Mala watches Roll on the next level.

Speaker 10 (21:53):
Yeah, I love him. And it's funny that they also
the Sons traded for Mark Williams.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
I said that, yeah, probably, yeah.

Speaker 10 (22:00):
That's probably his NBA comps Haven foot one. You know,
I'll be real, like, I just was so impressed by him.
You know, he played in the Olympics last summer for
the South Sudan and I thought he would be good.
I thought, but he would be kind of one of
those developmental guys and you know whatever. And it was like, no,
he was legitimately awesome from day one. And you know,

(22:21):
it was really just an elite rim protector, you know,
the game change when he was on the floor all that.
So I actually liked him, you know, I didn't do
like a quote unquote big board. But I think, you know,
if it clicks, he'll be one of the top five
players in this draft. I'll be really quick, you know, Carrie.
I'm curious for your perspective on Nipple because I like him,
but I can't lie and say that I see top

(22:43):
five whatever. I'm curious for your perspective. I'll lay out there.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
No, Aaron con is probably the most NBA ready player
that I've seen in the top ten and I'm not
even exaggerating on it because of the way he plays.
He's so fundamentally sound, right. He plays two feet all
the time, and so he's always like and like shot ready.
He's always in that triple threat. He can rebound, he
can bring the ball to the floor if you need to.

(23:09):
But obviously his song suit is his shooting. Right in
the NBA, you can never have enough shooting right now,
and I think when it comes to shooters, he's the
best shooter in this draft. So as far as going
top four, I mean, Charlotte needs a lot and I
think he could come in and steady the shift there
a little bit.

Speaker 10 (23:24):

think where a lot of people were surprised whatever is
