Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well that's right, you heard the man. It's that time

(00:28):
NBA Playoffs are taking shape, and you know, look, in
many ways, I'm a simple guy. Hell I had a
lunchables for dinner tonight, and I hate to come on
like a vegetarian beef inspector in a British slaughterhouse. But
this Boston Cleveland series, to me, has all the drama
of a Gilligans Island rerun. Come on, I mean, I
really gotta hear that Jason Tatum silenced his critics for

(00:52):
what beating Cleveland. Okay, Boston's starting to bub me. These
guys strut around like they're going for a three pet
and they now officially bore me as well. By the way,
Gilligan's Island the dumbest show of all time. Come on,
how can you disagree with that. The Professor. He can

(01:13):
build a radio out of a coconut, but can't get
him off the island. Thurston b. Howe's got more money
than Lebron, but no one ever sent a search party. Meanwhile,
Ginger and mary Anne, they haven't had their ticket punched
in site, carried his own golf clubs yet. The Skipper
and Gilligan, they're asleep at the wheel and every episode
ends the same. You did it, little buddy. Okay enough,

(01:36):
that's how I feel about the Celtics. You've done nothing.
Stop talking. The series that's caught my eye, and I mean,
this is the Mass Thunder. The Mass showed me something
today and it wasn't just that. PJ. Washington once again
had a big game offensively twenty seven points, five to

(01:57):
three pointers. And I give it up Luca clearly he
is nowhere there one hundred percent. He's got ankle issues,
he's got knee issues. Still had twenty two Kyrie chipton
as well. The Thunder are a really good team. They
had a ten point lead, big run to start the
third quarter. But the MAVs, unlike the MAVs of old,

(02:19):
they found that second gear. Why well, I got a theory.
I actually think Luca finally has the support around him
that he needs to get to the NBA Finals. Not
predicting they're gonna do it. They're a long way from that.
But if you look at the Mavericks teams of the past,
and I kind of like Mark Cube and I interviewed

(02:40):
him once in his war room many years ago as
a good dude. You know he had Jalen Brunson. You
forgot Brunston was a Maverick, right, They had a little
run one year, but you needed Doncik to be Superman,
Batman and every superhero. That's the only way Dallas was
really going to get past the hump. If Daunchion couldn't

(03:01):
do that, Dallas wasn't gonna win. And that past has
been prologued until now. And the reason I'm giving Dallas
the flowers is that Oklahoma City isn't just some garden
variety number one seed. This is a team that's really
on the rise. They check a lot of boxes, a
lot of depth, a lot of versatility, a lot of athletics.
Is of elite shooters, good coaching, superstars. Donchis couldn't beat

(03:26):
this team by himself, right, Now PJ. Washington has fifty
five points in the last two games. And look why
the Thunder had been focusing on Luca, and now Luca's
got a foil that can help him. Derek Lively made
several clutch free throws when the Thunder tried to hack
him down the stretch. That strategy didn't work. And then

(03:48):
even Kyrie Uncle drew fourteen points in the fourth quarter,
he picked it up and kept the Mavericks afloat when
Dunchins was starting to run out of gas. Now, none
of these players were on the Mavericks roster the last
time they reached the postseason. Remember that goofy tank last
year after trading for Kyrie. By the way, neither was

(04:09):
Dereck Jones Junior, who I cover here at UNLV, A
world class athlete, decent NBA player, Daniel Gafford. These guys
are playing, These are essential workers. The whole has become
better than the sum of their parts. It's not just Luca,
by the way, mentioned that. Have you ever mentioned Dallas

(04:30):
the Mavericks and defense in the same sentence. Dallas is
actually slowing a gritty defense when they need to get stops,
and that's what Chuck Day used to say, start with
a stop. It's all about getting stops. You want to
close teams out in the fourth quarter, get stops. Here's
what else I noticed. The Mavericks didn't just beat Oklahoma City.

(04:55):
They beat him up a little bit, little bit of
bully ball. And Oklahoma City has had a sensational regular season.
But now, as you know, in the postseason, things tighten up.
Space tightens up, and even Stevie Wonder could look at

(05:16):
Oklahoma and the city and say, you have to wonder
if at some point their lack of big time size
might start to become an issue. It wasn't in the
first round, and it wasn't the first part of the
Dallas series. Matter of fact, Oklahoma City has been rebounding
the ball quite well in the postseason, even though the

(05:37):
only ranked twenty eighth the rebound during the regular season rebounding.
Excuse me, but here's the deal. Oklahoma City is so
elite pretty much everything they do, and they're so athletic,
and their incredible ability to space has been so noticeable
that you don't think about those little things. But now

(05:59):
the playoffs are a different animal. There was a stretch
in Saturday's game where the MAVs had fifteen straight rebounds
and then Oklahoma City got one. Now, Oklahoma City tried
to turn on the gas late in the game, but
they just couldn't do it. And this is a team
that's built to win despite this potential peccadillo. The other

(06:23):
thing you have to ask yourself, Look, it's quantum physics.
This Oklahoma City team is fun. They're really good. They
got stars, but they wouldn't be human. What do they have.
It's like fourteen, they're like fifteen years old each. They
made the shots in the Pelicans series. They made the
shots in the Dallas series in the first couple of games,

(06:46):
actually the first game. The last couple of games, though
Oklahoma City has missed a total of twenty three pointers.
They're not going through the hoop the way they were.
So what's going on here? Sometimes you know, things can
come and go, defense or scoring comes and goals, shooting
comes and goes. We all see that. But what you

(07:08):
are also seeing is that Oklahoma City is having to
struggle now a little bit more to create that elite
offense that you saw all year, and in doing so,
you wonder if they're starting to hold mental pictures in
their head of what they don't want to happen. They
passed up some good shots in search of trying to

(07:30):
get better shots, and those shots aren't coming. And so
now is it possible that the youngest team in the
NBA is starting to feel the pressure of the moment.
As John Wooden once said, pressure causes some people to
break others to break records. Now, this series is far
from over, but Game four is going to be very pivotal.

(07:52):
And this Oklahoma City Corps in terms of getting into
the playoffs, this is their first barbecue. It's all new
to them. They're giving birth. And you all know that
the NBA playoffs is a far different game. It's a
far different sport than the regular season, and there are

(08:15):
adjustments to make. And I have all good things to
say about Oklahoma City, but the truth of the matter
is they're learning on the job and the old Mike
Tyson line, everybody has got a plan. Do they get
hit Dallas has now hit them a couple times in
a row. We'll see what Oklahoma City can do in
Game four. Can they get back in the groove and

(08:36):
start showing that flashy offense that got them there in
the meantime, Dallas, You've actually caught my eye because Luca
might actually now have a supporting cast that will enable
this team to reach the potential that Mark Cuban has
always hoped they would have. I'm Bernie friderwer Cony line

them all during football on Contown to Kickoff Saturday mornings,
as well as Fox Sports Radio Saturday mornings during non

(10:12):
football season. Say hello to Jared Smith, Jared, how are you?
Bud oh Bernie?

Speaker 6 (10:17):
Fantastic and yes year round, you can't get rid of
me around these part times.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Good to have you again, Jared. So before I get
to the Caitlin Clark prop craze, which is a very
real thing, and a doubleheader matchup NBA playoff wise for
Sunday that I'd like you to break down, I want
to talk about the Boston Celtics fourteen and fourteen at
home over the last four seasons, five and eight in

(10:44):
their last thirteen home playoff games. This book's missing a chapter,
yet in spite of it, there's still the odds on favorites.
You gotta lay a price minus one thirty to win
the NBA Championship this year. Are you buying them?

Speaker 6 (11:00):
I don't think I am buying them to win it,
but I think the price makes sense. It definitely made
sense before tonight's game. I did think tonight's game, like
I bet Boston in the first quarter, I pushed the two,
and then the first half and the full game was
a relatively easy cover. I mean, let's be honest, Bernie, like,

(11:21):
it's a pretty easy road to.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Get to the finals.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
I think what Minnesota may or may not do tomorrow
is going to tip the scales. For example, I think
if Minnesota ran through the left and looked as good
as they did in the first round against Denver and
really showed that they were the best team in the West,
because I think the best I think the winner of
the West will come out of that Minnesota Denver series.

(11:48):
You might have seen Boston's price kind of stay stagnant
throughout this run because Boston will at home court. But
it would be obvious to a lot of people that
Minnesota is the better team. So that kind of balances
the books a little bit. But now Minnesota's kind of
shown their age a little bit and Denver that could
be a long series, and we think Boston's gonna cruise
here right like, we think this is going to be

(12:09):
a five gamer for Boston and then they're gonna be
relatively rested facing a Knicks team that is just the
opposite of rested, and they're going to be in the finals,
probably sitting and waiting for this Western Conference war to
play out. So I think the price makes sense in
terms of where they'll be slated when the finals begin.

(12:29):
But I reserve the right to reassess my opinion based
off of who is in that finals matchup and then
what the price is going into game one. So I
think right now Boston minus won twenty makes sense. That
number will decrease until, you know, until we get to
the finals. But I think I might reassess the winner
of the finals once we get to the actual matchup.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
All right, So I buy all of that based on
the distinction or based on the numbers, But I make
the distinction, and I think it's fair to presume the
Knicks are running out of bodies. Cleveland's were matched, It's
fair to presume you can pencil Boston in the finals,
and that's where I think the really begins. Okay, I

(13:11):
believe either or Minnesota and or Denver are not only
talented enough to beat Boston, I think they have the
type of matchup issues that would present real problems. So
I look at this team and they're sketchy to me,
and I don't like when Jason Tatum says, well, you
all expect us to win by twenty No, we don't.
We don't expect anything. You've never won anything. You walk

(13:33):
around like you're playing for a three pet But we
can question your performance. Wait, set that aside, because you're right,
this has to play itself out. And from a number standpoint,
I get it. This is why I like to have you.
Look you make the distinction. The sports book is not
in the fortune telling business. They're not in the prediction business.
They're merely trying to manage risk. So that number makes sense.

(13:54):
So we'll see what happens when we as the playoffs continue.
So Jared look ahead. It's a pretty intriguing doubleheader tomorrow
Knicks Pacers twelve thirty Pacific next catching five and a half.
Og On an Obi is not gonna play. I'll be
shocked if he pulls a Willis Reid deal. But yeah,
but this Pacers team, to me, is very distracted. Your

(14:17):
thoughts are on that game from a betting standpoint, well,
I think the.

Speaker 6 (14:22):
Original opening line in Game three was pretty much what
the number is now right, and what happened in game
three is and I always liked the market dynamics to me,
and you can you nail it like we're not fortune tellings.
I have no idea how these games are going to
play out, but I can I can kind of analyze
where the market is. So Game three, Indiana in the

(14:43):
desperation spot, right, it was the obvious spot. The Knicks
were banged up. They were fortunate to win Game two,
they pulled it out brunts and was heard he came
back and all of a sudden they won.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
And then they get to.

Speaker 6 (14:54):
Game three, and it's the obvious bounceback spot for Indiana.
So number opens five to five and a half stretches
out to seven seven and a half. I mean in
the NBA playoffs, that's a big move, seven being a
relatively key number. So and obviously the game was really tight,
and I'll be honest, could have doll either way. Frankly,
Andrew Denmark hit won a thirty five footer for the
win on a step back. So you know that game

(15:16):
was tied late and and I think it was obvious
that the market got that one wrong. You know, the
Knicks at the seven and a half point dog was
a fantastic bet. Now the market opens five and a
half again in Game four, and what happens, no movement
at all.

Speaker 7 (15:28):
We're still sitting five and a half.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
So I think that again, the market telling you that,
all right, this obvious home win spot for Indiana, I
think is maybe we need to be a little more
cautious there. I do think this is I mean, I'm
a Knicks Van Bernie. I strapped it every time they
play a playoff game, like, I've never seen a team

(15:50):
so scrappy and so, you know, playing above what the
back of their basketball cards should say based off who's
on the floor and the type of production that they've had.
So I think the Knicks are.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Very live here. I would not be passing all.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
If they won this game. And I think from a
prop perspective, I mean, just bet Josh hartovers the dudes
on the floor for every minute of every game, just
based on a volume perspective. I don't know if the
sportsbooks can catch up fast enough with those numbers. De
Vincenzo's game has been fantastic. He's a guy that's going
to get extended run. One of the role players has
to play well for the Knicks to win.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
So if you like the Knicks to win.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
Miles McBride has to hit a few threes. Alec Burks
has to roll back the clock and do miraculous things.
I don't know how he, you know, is all of
a sudden a factor in the series.

Speaker 7 (16:33):
So one of those.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
Guys has to step up. It can't just be Brunton.
I think Josh Hart makes sense from a rebounding perspective,
but you know, scoring wise, has got to be de
Vincenzo or McBride or Burke sitting threes.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
This number tells me either Knicks backers have shown up,
because yeah, Anonobe is out, and yet the Pacers are
laying one and a half points less than they were
in Game three. I don't know. I'm not gonna be
involved in the game, but a gun to my head,
the only sat I could look to would would be
the Knicks. Let's look at the Nuggets, Timberwolves. Minnesota land

(17:09):
two and a half. They were laying four and a
half the other night. I thought it was a masterclass
by Denver getting them in the half court offense, dragging
Minnesota into a game. They're not really built to play
and you know, watching Jokic run the offense from the
high post, his ability to find cutters, shooters, create, you know,

(17:30):
his own shots. Denver finally looked like Denver, what do
you expect to happen Sunday? Because I think this Minnesota
team is very good.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
I think they're fantastic, but I also think they're very
young and very inexperienced and very vulnerable. And it's not
the same situation, but championship teams when they get one,
especially on the road, it's almost like they've got you
right where they want you. In the twenty one Finals

(18:00):
when the Sun, now they were at home when they
went up two oh, and then they went on the
road and lost fourth straight.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
But that's what this reminds.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Me of Suns throwing up two to oh on the Bucks.
The Bucks go home in Game three and they just
they just look like the championship Bucks, and then they
didn't lose another game the rest of that series. I
think Nuggets and six makes a lot of sense to me.
I think the Nuggets can even lose tomorrow and still
feel confident that they can.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Win the series.

Speaker 7 (18:28):
Because again, we use this cliche a.

Speaker 6 (18:30):
Lot in the media business. And in the gambling space,
I think it holds more value than most cliches do.
It's the series doesn't start until the home team loses, right,
So this series starts very early. But then the team
that you know went into Denver and knocked out the
chance to in a row, went back home and had
all the confidence in the world and got blasted. I

(18:52):
think as much as Minnesotas looked like the best team
in this in this playoffs so far, I think that
winning Game three, Denver's the title. Like Denver's the chance again,
and I expect them to win this game tomorrow and
I expect them to frankly win the series. Even if
they don't win tomorrow, I still expect them to win
the series. I do think mojo is a real thing.

(19:13):
Momentum is real, and this Denver team I think got
some of it back. Now Minnesota coul shoot lights out
and it could be a completely different game. But if
you wanted to ask me if I think Minnesota still
has control of the series up to one at home,
I don't think they do.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
I think your analysis is very cute. I had Darren
McKee from Altitude Sports in Denver on last night. He
told me after the team watched on TV shack at
you know, create a very clunky interview with Nikola Yuko.

Speaker 6 (19:45):
Oh yeah, that was so bud.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Apparently inside the four walls that really lit a fire
under their butt. And now you've got an angry Denver
team and you saw what they did, so I think
you may very well be honest something talk with Jared Smith.
You hear him Saturday mornings here on Fox Sports Radio
and certainly during football season a countdown to kickoff. All right,
this phenomenon with Caitlin Clark and all the props to
me has really caught my eye.

Speaker 8 (20:07):
This is.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
You know, there's gonna be some real handle on this, Jared,
And I am not a prop player by design. You
got to pick your spots. You can't be you know,
all things. But there are a couple of these that
caught my eye. Not because I don't have faith in
Caitlin Clark to do to be a very good pro
but I could only look at some of the unders.
Eight hundred and fifty total regular season points. If you

(20:32):
do the math and look what she's got to do.
I don't know how she gets to that number when
you know they're gonna really focus on her, and also
she's not playing for a very good team. Have you
taken a look at some of these Caitlyn Clark props
and you have thoughts on them?

Speaker 6 (20:46):
I'll be honest, I didn't even know that they existed.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
I do know that.

Speaker 6 (20:49):
There are a lot of obviously exotics around her situation
because I think the sportsbooks understand that she is an
opportunity to get not only a better but also just
people betting on the WNBA.

Speaker 7 (21:05):
Listen, I think I.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
Have thoughts on the women's sports betting realm. I think
it's the most untapped market we have in our space.
I honestly do. I have tried to dip my toes
into that realm.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
It's hard for me for two reasons.

Speaker 6 (21:22):
One, I don't watch the games as much as other
people who do, so me offering betting advice in that
space is kind of disingenuous. Secondly, I don't have time because.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
Of all this.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
I wish. I wish, Bernie.

Speaker 6 (21:35):
I wish in the summer when the WNBA is on,
I didn't have baseball on my brain every day. I
wish in the winter, when you know NFL college football,
et cetera, and men's college basketball is starting to heat up.
I could focus more on women's college basketball. Those markets
are feeding frenzies. They are untapped markets. It's like, think

(21:58):
of it, if you're a skier, powder not a lot
of people.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
You're not kidding fat They've got a menu here to
beat the band. I mean there's some you know, will
Caitlin Clark score fifty or more points in any regular
season game? You get sixteen to one, I think it's
a fugazy bet. One hundred and thirty main three pointers
for the entire season, you got to lay minus one forty.
Really a lot to choose from. I didn't mean to

(22:22):
put you on the spot there anyway. Final thoughts going forward.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
You're good. I think those are good markets. I do
think those are good markets to look in. I just
think you have to pick your spots.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Jared, great stuff as always. I know you're one of
the hardest working men in rock and roll. Keep up
the great work and get some rest of my friend.

Speaker 7 (22:38):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Thanks Bell. All right, it's Jared Lee Smith. You hear
him Saturday mornings here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up, Okay,
I'll give the Celtics some Flowers begrudgingly, I'll at least
share with you what I think they did Saturday and
some adjustments they made that might lead you to believe that, well,

(23:00):
maybe they can't bring home a title, even though I'm
not betting on After first, just go to our guy,
the man for all seasons, the duelsit tones, the comedic
stylings of the inimitable Dan Byer Dan, how are you
doing well? Bernie?

Speaker 9 (23:12):
And Jason Tatum did do a little something on Saturday
night in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
He puts it in the hands of Drew Howane.

Speaker 8 (23:17):
Here's the answer to Tatum turns to face out, strokes
four in a shock locked Tatum pump fix on the baseline,
turns marking Jumper is all net.

Speaker 9 (23:26):
Two of his thirty three points, had thirteen rebounds and
six assists for Tatum and the Celtics get a one
oh six ninety three Game three victory over the Cavs
on ninety eight point five. The sports up in the
Celtics radio network didn't do it himself. Jalen Brown twenty
eight points. Again, Boston is up to to one, MAVs
up to to one thanks to PJ. Washington, who led
the team in scoring with twenty seven points in the

(23:47):
one oh five to one oh one victory against the
thunder Luka Doncic twenty two points, fifteen rebounds as he
was hobbling through that Game three. MAVs again up to
one in that Western Conference semi final.

Speaker 10 (23:59):
On the ice, the Canes stay alive.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Terravining back for Shay.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Shay walks to the middle of the rank, just inside.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
The blue line.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
He'll get it to Terravining top of the left face
off circle.

Speaker 10 (24:10):
Becker take Christ down the line, pretty shine.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
What's the chains of the league over?

Speaker 9 (24:19):
That'd be the final on the Hurricanes radio network. So
they win Game four, but the Rangers still up three
to one in the best of seven series. Stars take
game three from the Avalanche, winning in Denver for to one.
In baseball, the Dodgers blank the Padres five to nothing.
Taascar Hernandez a grand slam in the sixth inning, providing
the Dodgers the offense show. Hey Otani had to leave

(24:41):
the game in the ninth inning because of back discomfort,
not believed to be serious, but Otani not expected to
be in the lineup.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
On Sunday.

Speaker 9 (24:49):
A's all over the Meritors eight to one on Saturday night,
while the Angels took it to the Royals nine to three.
Rocky's best of the Rangers eight three. Lesanders Schoffley will
enter Sunday's final rounda the Wells Fargo Chiampionship with one.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Shot lead over Rory McElroy. Bernie back to you, Dan,
permission to speak freely, Yes, Soul, please pass along the
memo to the esteemed Antonio Daniels that the room that
we all know Lebron takes all the air out of

(25:21):
that we allegedly put him in. Please let mister Daniels
knowe Lebron is free to show himself out every time
he wants.

Speaker 9 (25:29):
Bertie is referencing me filling in for Doug Gottlieb earlier
this week. I believe this was on Tuesday, and I
felt that Lebron James should retire because I think it
just would be better for the league and the NBA.
Vet Antonio Daniels here on Sirius XM and also on
the Pelicans broadcast. Bertie, I think you could say I
did not agree with me. He and Ryan Hollins did

(25:50):
not agree with my take, but I'm glad I find
some backing from you.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Bertie, appreciate that your I got your BACKDN, and you
know that. All right, my man, thanks, good stuff. Good
to have you in tonight. All right. It is I
think fair for me to give Jason Tatum some flowers
for one reason Chris Mannis predicted Chris Mannis is he's

(26:17):
the what's the word I'm looking for. Let's just put
it this way. He is very bullish on Jason Tatum,
and he predicted that Jason Tatum would have a tremendous
bounce back performance in Game three, and he has done
that before. Chris Mannis correctly said that in Game six

(26:37):
of the twenty twenty two Conference Finals, when Jason Tatum
went off against the Bucks, and then Game seven last
season against the Philadelphia seventy six ers bounced back games.
He said, we're going to be talking about Game three
against the Cleveland Cavaniers because he's going to go off. Well.
Give Mannix credit. He said Tayson would score well over

(26:59):
thirty points, if not four already wasn't really far off, okay.
Tatum set the tone early, back to back three pointers
in his first two shot attempts Paul points to the
first quarter, finished with eighteen in the first half, set
the tone seven rebounds, three assists, of blocking the steel.
I believe he ended up with thirty three points. He
kept his foot on the gas. He was eleven to

(27:20):
twenty five from the floor, double double, thirteen boards, six assists,
played forty two minutes. Didn't shoot great from behind the arc,
but let's not you know, pick on the wart on
Lincoln's nose. For the most part, Jason Tatum put on
a show in a game that he did need to
make a statement in, but again it was against Cleveland, Okay, Boston.

(27:45):
There are expectations, and if the Celtics fail to meet
those expectations, then I think there is going to be
tremendous teeth gnashing when you look at this roster. And
I am not at all sold that when they get
to the NBA Finals, and it seems likely they will
that if you put them on the floor with Denver,
they're in big trouble. You put them on the floor

(28:06):
with Minnesota, I think it's a coin flip. And yes,
Minnesota youth could rear its head. It could. But I
was an intern at the Forum when twenty year old
Magic Johnson, who should have been a junior at Michigan
State scored you know, forty two points and John Center
played all three positions and they weren't supposed to beat

(28:27):
the Philadelphia seventy six ers and six in Philadelphia, but
they did. Every day a new star is born, and
I tell you Anthony Edwards is worth the price of admission.
So I'm really starting to get into these NBA playoffs.
But Boston a lot of times, when you know, when
all of a sudden done, more is said than done.
So I will give Jason Tatum his props for a

(28:48):
bounce back performance on Saturday night, But you got a
long way to go, and you're nowhere near getting there.
All right, Tuesday, the w NBA season starts. We are
in a whole new world. Caitlin Clark is making her
NBA or check that w NBA debut Tuesday May fourteenth
against the Connecticut Sun and the game would be broadcast

(29:10):
on ESPN, tow would be streaming on Disney Plus. And
the Fever just drew thirteen thousand for a preseason game.
They were averaging four thousand last year during the regular season.
When Caitlin Clark comes to Las Vegas to play the
defending champ Aces, two time champ ass. The game has
been moved to T Mobile Arena. So here's where it

(29:32):
really gets fun. There's lots of ways to bet on
Caitlin Clark and the Yanniana Fever. And I think you'll
be very intrigued when I share with you some of
the ways you can do it. And this is gonna work.
The books are smart. They have found a way for
the average Joe to enhance his viewing participation in these games,

(29:53):
feed his competitive spirit, and maybe win a buck or
two while enjoying WNBA basketball. I'll tell this is really
a boon for the WNBA in a way they don't
even know how yet. Yeah, just yet. You'll see I'm

Speaker 2 (30:20):
All right back on the Bernie Fratle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Comey live for the Tyrek dot com studios here in
Las Vegas. Take you after three and Pacific six am Eastern.
Just getting started top of the r of Mark Medina,
Medina Magic all things NBA. But before we get to that, Tuesday,

(30:40):
May fourteenth, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever they tip
off the new season and this will be I believe,
the most watched season in the history of the NBA
WNBA excuse me, which maybe is insane a whole hell
of a lot. That's maybe like being the best hockey
player from Argentina. This is a league that's been around
twenty five years. They lose money every year, but they're

(31:02):
gaining popularity and doing a better job I think of
promoting their stars, and clearly they have one on Kitland Clark.
You may wonder, why couldn't you bet on Kitland Clark
in college? What's a little tricky, you're there. Different states
have different guidelines for betting on college sports, even though
you could bet on Iowa. But see the beauity. Now
of the products that exist within the realm of sports

(31:26):
betting is that there are prop bets. Proposition bets have
nothing to do with the outcome of the game. They
have everything to do with individual performances and well key performances,
but specifically individual performances like this. Okay, you can bet
will Kitland Clark's first basket a regular season, Will it

(31:50):
be a three pointer? You have to lay minus one
seventy five to make one hundred, which I think makes sense.
That seems like her first basket in Yes, well, I
guess a free throw wouldn't count, but you'd have to
read the rules. Will Caitlin Clark average twenty two points
a game or more in the regular season? She must

(32:12):
play at least twenty eight of the regular season games
they play forty games in the WNBA. You have to
bet minus one sixty. So these suggest that the sportsbooks
expect the odds are that Caitlin Clark will average twenty
two points or more and her first basket will be
a three pointer. Now here's where it gets interesting. But

(32:32):
by the way, you can even You can even bet
will Caitlin Clark lead the Indiana Fever in scoring in
the twenty twenty four regular season. That's minus three eighty.
I mean, you have to bet you have to post
three hundred and eighty dollars to win one hundred. Will
Caitlyn Clark record one hundred and thirty or more made
three pointers in the twenty twenty four regular season. Now

(32:56):
there are forty games she'd have to average a little
more than three games. That seems reasonable all things considered,
but I'm not a prop player. Too many things can
go wrong. That's minus one forty. Here's where some other
you heard Jared use the word exotics to record three
plus triple doubles in the twenty twenty four season. Could

(33:17):
Kitlyn Clark do that? Can she have at least three
or more triple doubles in the twenty twenty four regular season? See? Now,
that's plus one ninety. That means you put up one
hundred dollars, you win one hundred ninety. This one's caught
my eye and it's even money. And again, you have
to play at least twenty eight regular season games for
this bet to cash. Will Caitlyn Clark record at least

(33:41):
one made three pointer in every single twenty twenty four
regular season games she plays? Now, again, you must you know,
she can't just play three games and take the rest
of the year off. You gotta pay at least twenty
eight regular season games. That's even money. Here's where it
gets even more entertaining. Caitlin Clark, will she, at any

(34:04):
time during the season make ten three pointers in a
single game? Ten?

Speaker 7 (34:11):
Well?

Speaker 2 (34:12):
If you are one of those folks that likes to
bet a little to win a lot, which I don't
recommend you should always bet a little to win a
little more. You bet a little to win a little
a lot. This might be your play if you if
you're feeling saucy. You only got to do it one time.
One hundred dollars brings back seven hundred dollars. Now, any
time with Kaitlyn Clark score fifty points in any regular

(34:35):
season game, that's sixteen to one, one hundred dollars bringing
back sixteen hundred. Now you are getting into what I
call the shooting babies at the moon bets, kneil and
a haystack bets. Don't do it. I don't recommend you
do it. By the way, you know what the single
season scoring record or check out a single game scoring
record in the WNBA is all time fifty four points

(34:59):
in a game. Fifty four For Kitlin Clark to do that,
one hundred dollars are bringing back twenty one hundred dollars. Now.
Caitlin Clark is the runaway favorite to win Rookie of
the Year. Some sportsbooks are giving her, you know, one
to seven. Meet you you'd have to bet seven hundred

(35:20):
dollars to win one hundred dollars, and in borring anything, goofy.
It feels like Kitlin Clark should be the rookie year.
They're not getting any of my money on that kind
of stuff. Look, sportsbooks will also have odds for all
the Fevers games, right, and the Fever will be underdogs
a lot, So that's something you can you can always

(35:40):
bet on. But you know, I think there's gonna be
a lot of attention on Caitlyn Clark. There's gonna be
a lot of pressure. There's not a dot in my mind.
She's gonna do very well. I truly believe that. How
is her team gonna do?

Speaker 6 (35:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
They went thirteen and twenty seven last year, they had
the third worst record in the WNBA, and they open
up against the Connecticut Set. I haven't seen the line yet.
They lost all four games to the Connecticut Sun last year,
the last two games they lost by double digits. But again,
there are some bets that have sort of caught my eye.

(36:16):
For instance, add up the number of points and make
no mistaken, they're gonna write tickets on her. There are
going to be a lot of people betting on these props.
People get high making the bet. They love you know,
when you win, great, when you lose it sad, But

(36:36):
truly they've studied this. Gambling enhances the viewing participation for
the better, feeds their competitive spirit, allows them an opportunity
to enjoy the entertainment just that much more. Caitlin Clark's
clearly changed the face of basketball. There's a ground swollow
of excitement that they just haven't seen. It's not just

(36:56):
you know, these betting props. There's an increase in ticket sales,
there's women's peril, the fanatics, Jersey sold out. I mean,
the number is just keep to break, you know, they
just keep breaking new ground every time you turn around.
A couple of those that I mentioned to Jared, I'd
look to the under in these cool Caitlin Clark score
eight hundred and fifty regular season points in forty games. Again,

(37:19):
you got to average over twenty two points a game
to do that. Now, here's why I would have to
look to the under. If you look at last year's
WNBA regular season, there are only three players in the
entire league, Jewel Lloyd, Brianna Stewart and Asia Wilson for
the Champion of Vegas the Las Vegas as is. Only

(37:44):
three of them exceeded that total in the entire league
last year. I want to say, I think there's like
one hundred and fifty six players in the WNBA three
and all three of them are established w NBA stars,
none of them are rookies. In order for Clark to
get to eight fifty, she's got a average almost twenty
two points a game, and I think you can go

(38:07):
back twenty five years. I think Cynthia Cooper is the
only one to have done that. There might have been
somebody else. She's got the talent to do it. But
remember she's coming off this rigorous college season. She's got
the white hot spotlight every time she turns around, and
there's a rookie initiation. You know, I don't really go
for what Diana Tarassi said or what Cheryl Swoof said.

(38:28):
I think they're out of their mind and they're jealous.
But the bottom line is this, she's gonna have a
little bit of a brick wall. The WNBA is a
big step up from college, all right. The other thing,
I don't know if she'll make one hundred and thirty
five three pointers in the regular season. That's the number
that she's got a clear.

Speaker 7 (38:50):
To do that.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
That's a lot. That's a lot, and again this is
a sucker number. That number would break the single season record.
And so for Kitlyn Clark to play the get the
over on that, she'd have to break the single season record,
which was just set last year by Sabrina and Escu.
And you know, that's a pretty fast company. The final

(39:12):
one for me, that feels like a no brainer. Can
the Indiana Fever win more than twenty point five regular
season games? I think that's highly doubtful. The Indiana Fever
only won thirteen games last year. And to give you
some perspective, there are only four teams in the WNBA
that won more than twenty games last year. Two of

(39:33):
them were conference champions, the Aces and Liberty. So this
is going to be fun to watch. Take your chances,
places your bets, have some fun. I think you can
call it clarkonomics. She's changing the dynamic women's basketball and frankly,
we're all here for it. Otherwise who wouldn't be talking

(39:53):
about it? Coming up? Mark Medina Medina Magic lotsed itself
to talk about in the NBA keep it locked right here.
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:06):

The NBA playoffs are raging. We've got coaching changes, we've
got proclamations, we've got teeth gnashing and complaining. And that
is why when you get to midnight at the Bernie
Frattle Show on Saturday nights, three words, it's that time.
It's welcome and our guy Mark Medina a little Medina
Magic every Saturday night, fifty two weeks out of the

(40:53):
year because there's always news in the NBA, and Mark,
I've got to start with this one. One of my
lists asked me specifically, given Austin Rivers comments the other
day about how you could just simply drop thirty NBA
players into an NFL game, no problem. Has there been
any kind of water cooler chatter about that in your circles?

Speaker 7 (41:16):
Not really. I mean it's a cool conversation to be
had that comes up from time to time. But I think,
in fairness to both NFL and NBA players completely different sport,
completely different makeup. I think the only real players that
could be instantly transferable would be players like Lebron James
and Dyan Williamson. I actually remember talking to some players

(41:38):
last season for a poll about this idea of who
would make a great all NFL team, and really the
only unanimous picks that people had were Lebron James and
Ziant Wimson because of their physical makeup. And everyone else
it was kind of a stretch and just a fun
exercise and nothing more than that.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Well, three words high speed collisions. I mean, the NBA
is a contact sport. The NFL is a high speed
collision sport. It's a game of attrition. I guess it's
fun to talk about. I'm not sold Lebron could do it,
but what does it matter? What does it matter? He's
busy with other things, all right? The big we're gonna
get to the playoffs. But really kind of the big

(42:17):
news of the week is Phoenix hiring Mike Budenholzer. You know,
you let Frank Vogel go. I mean, the Big three
were only available forty one games this year. I feel
like Budenholzer is walking to an incredibly high pressure pack situation.
What are your thoughts. They must have really wanted him
badly because Vogel had four years left on his contract.

(42:40):
Is this feel like a bit of a reach to you?

Speaker 7 (42:42):
Well, I think it's a good hire because Mike Boldenholzer,
he's won championships. He's a respective head coach, I think
compared to Frank Vogel. Even though I think Frank Vogel
is a good coach, his strengths for more on the
defensive end. The Sun's roster wasn't really defensively equipped, and
you look at Mike Boldenholzer, he's more of an offensive guru.
But that being said, I think that, yeah, Mike Boldenholzer

(43:05):
doesn't have any job security because we saw that the
Sons are willing to fire a head coach after one
season and two the roster flaws of the roster flaws
I think the Sun's Big three, Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal,
and Devin Booker, their on court chemistry was great, but
the problem was what you just mentioned. They didn't play
enough games together and the roster deficiencies exposed itself. So

(43:27):
keep this in mind. They didn't have veteran minimum guys
that were just scrubs. Eric Gordon, you know, Josef Nerkic Garret, Allen,
Royce O'Neil. Those are all serviceable rotation players, but you
also need defensive oriented players because you don't have that
in the top of your food chain here beyond Kevin Durant,

(43:49):
you know, being an occasional defender. So I don't think
that Frank Vogel was put in a position to succeed there.
So yeah, I think Mike Boldenholzer can help the offense,
but it's roster driven. As far as their issues scaling,
the problem here is they can't really have any mechanism
to improve from within. They can shuffle the deck with

(44:09):
rotation players, so that doesn't do anything dramatically. The only
thing that will be a dramatic change is if they
make a really tough decision in dealing Kevin durant Han
or Devin Booker. But that doesn't seem to be mad.
I should be as m because he doesn't want to rebuild.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
He wants to win now, I gotta tell you, and
you articulate that very well, Mark, but I'm trying to
wrack my brain. Budenholzer will be the franchise's third head
coach in three seasons. Remember they fired Monty Williams and
then Frank Vogel in successive years. I understand one of
the driving factors. Budenholzers from Arizona. His father was a
well regarded high school coach in Arizona. And yes, he

(44:45):
won the twenty twenty one NBA Championship with the Bucks.
This feels like a situation where they're just trying to
sell a press conference. How if you really have a
gun to your head. I know we don't like that analogy,
but bottom line is, do you really expect Budenholzer to
produce results?

Speaker 7 (45:01):
I think he'll produce results. And I will slightly push
back here. I think that his come pound connections are
nice storylines, but I think the bigger driving forces He's
had a kind of coaching experience. He's won a championship,
and I think that he's seen as a player, as
a coach that can hold players more accountable than Frank Vogel.

(45:21):
Frank Vogel can certainly do that, but he isn't seen
as someone that has a real demonstrative personality. But I
think to your larger point, I don't think that the
head coach is going to solve or create the problems.
The problems are the roster construction and the availability of

(45:42):
that roster, and so I think it'll yield improvement, but
I don't think they kind of improvement that Mattashpia is expected.
And that's an NBA championship talk with.

Speaker 2 (45:52):
Mark Medina Medina Magic every Saturday night at midnight here
on the Bernie Frattle Show. Just wait, and the Lakers
are going to be front and center here because the
draft be coming up. We'll have to see if they
draft Brownie, which they very might well do. But I
got just thinking, Mark, they have designs on winning a championship. Again,
I know they do. I don't have faith they will.

(46:15):
But if you look at their roster composition four years ago,
when they had guys like caseb and Danny Green and
Kyle Kuzma, they had shooters. Is it possible the Lakers
try to recreate that in some form or fashion to
replicate what they had for years ago when they were
able to win in the bubble.

Speaker 7 (46:33):
That very well could be the case, because I think
that while there isn't necessarily a long or right answer,
so long as the Lakers have a good roster as
far as Kata third star or having continuity, Lebron James
and Anthony Davis have shown that they're most affective together
when they have roster depths, so I would expect that

(46:54):
they're not going to go the continuity route necessarily. Because
they try that here and they yielded a first round
exit to Denver. I think they had more to do
with Denver than anything else, But I think it also
showed the limitations of the role players they retained. So
now it's about finding the right role players in rotation players.
So I think I want to be surprised that they

(47:17):
do that. They do have more assets to work with
with three draft picks on NBA Draft Night, maybe they
could do a sign and trade with D'Angel Russell. That's
not guaranteed because he can just walk out right assuming
he opts out of his player options. But I want
to be surprised they do that. But let's be honest here.
Given the Lakers, they're always going to be aggressive if

(47:39):
there is a star player available. But I think in
light of the Russell Westbrook fiasco, they'll only go down
that avenue if they're not having to gut their entire roster.

Speaker 2 (47:50):
Mark question for you, And this is a little snarky,
but so Patrick Mahomes did it, Tom Brady did it.
With the all knowing, all powerful. Lebron take a pay
cut like Mahomes and Brady did so the Lakers could
perhaps bolster their roster.

Speaker 7 (48:06):
It's a nice idea to ask, but one I don't
know why Lebron James would do that. I think from
his perspective, he's the one who produced at a high
level the last year and it didn't do anything. But
I think the bigger thing is, and it's a misnomer,
just because he gives a pay cut doesn't mean that

(48:26):
the Lakers all of a sudden have more resources to
fill out the rest of the roster. The reason is
because they're over the cap, and so they're still going
to be over the cap. Unless you know, if he
wants to do the better minimum. But yeah, I mean
it's a nice talking point. But even in fairness to
any star player that say they want to win, like,
no one would do that. We want to do that,

(48:47):
so why should we ask a star player to do that?

Speaker 2 (48:50):
But that's fair? Go ahead, I'm sorry, Yeah, I would.

Speaker 7 (48:53):
I would say this. If there is a difference between
shaving a few million dollars off here or there because
of salary cap space, that's one thing, but that's not
the parameters that the Lakers are working with. And the
you know what, Lebron's defense for all the flack that
he got with how he went to Miami, he made
that happen partly because he took a pay cut then

(49:15):
he could have made otherwise. But in this case it
doesn't really apply.

Speaker 2 (49:19):
All right, well, fair enough and all the more easy. Look,
Mahomes did it, Brady did it. I understand the dynamic,
and even Byron Scott should know that you can't have
a player coach in the viet now right with with
the with the new with the new CBA rules for
for for obvious reasons.

Speaker 7 (49:35):
To be clear, you know, Byron Scott's a great person,
But I think, Oh, I think he's very tongue in cheek.
To be clear, this isn't a new CBA role. This
is a CBA role that's been an existence for a
while thirty. Yeah, I think the only example I can
think of is when Bill Russell was playing with the

(49:55):
Celtics and that.

Speaker 2 (49:56):
Was what Dave Collins. Dave Collins was the player coach.

Speaker 7 (50:00):
He good too. But yeah, that obviously can't apply.

Speaker 2 (50:05):
Yeah, I just draw that as an analogy. To listen,
certain teams have a way of maneuvering around and you know,
there are plenty of teams that have no problems spending
way over the cap in the NBA, and they find
ways to do it. Let's talk about the Clippers. They
move into their shining new toy next.

Speaker 7 (50:23):
Year, what are they going to do well for what
it's worth. Lawrence Frank spoke earlier this week. I was
at his press conference and he was saying that they
want to bring back Paul George, they want to get
James Harden. But in the same token he is saying this,
it would be naive to think, you know, we can
just run it back and everything will be fine. That's

(50:43):
not how we team build and I'm paraphrasing loosely, but
that's essentially the message. So what do I gather from that? A.
They're committed to Kawhi Leonard. They already sign him to
an extension, even though he has his injury history. In
Lawrence words, Lawrence Frank's words, he's a top five player
went healthy. So I think one of the driving forces

(51:05):
is they want to have something to sell went into
a Dome open next season. But they also think this
is their best path to win. But when it comes
to Paul George and James Harden, some of this is
outside of the Clippers control. But if they retain them,
I think it's about just having a starting point for
next season so that you know they have a winning product.

(51:26):
But I want to be surprised if they are flipped
in deals later in the trade deadline, almost like what
happened with Blake Griffin when they signed him and had
this huge press conference and compared them to different civil
rights leaders as if he made that kind of impact
with the Clippers. I don't think they'll do that same

(51:47):
press conference that was a mistake, but I want to
be surprised that they do the same sort of deal
where it's about securing them so they have assets moving forward.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
Talking with Mark Medina and Medina Magic every Saturday Night
midnight on The Bernie Frattle Show. After the pat Riley
dressing down of Jimmy Butler for trolling, has there been
any follow up to that whole ordeal.

Speaker 7 (52:13):
I mean, we'll see what actually happens this off season.
As far as whether you know he's continuing to be
with the Heat or not. My hunch is pat Riley
can you know, call his players out because he is
very comfortable to his own skin. He's oh yeah, he's still,
you know, an old school kind of coach. But I
don't think it means that Jimmy's out of there.

Speaker 2 (52:34):
I think that, well, they're not going to trade him.
But how did Jimmy Butler feel about the way pat
Riley talk to him.

Speaker 7 (52:40):
I don't know this for a fact, but my hunch
is Jimmy Butler respects pat Riley. So it's the end
of that story. So I don't think that this is
going to be the beginning of their you know, divorce
or the beginning of the relationship being fractured. I think
that pat Riley just clearly conveyed where he stood, and
Jimmy Butler will probably can't help more respect it because

(53:03):
of pat Riley's pedigree and the fact that he was
so blunt about it.

Speaker 2 (53:08):
Yeah, last one for me. It's tonight, Mark. I want
to revisit the Mark Jackson situation. I thought you articulated
his situation pretty well last week. When I was hosting
to Ben Maller Show Thursday night, I had a caller
that's convinced and You'll have to refresh my memory on this,
because I'm drawing a blank that apparently there was an

(53:29):
incident in twenty fourteen where Mark Jackson threatened to pull
his team off the floor. And I don't know the details.
I don't know the context. I don't even know the backstory.
I'm hoping you do. But this caller was pretty adamant
about the fact he believed that the NBA was holding
that against Mark Jackson and that quote he's been blackballed.
Your thoughts do you call that incident at all?

Speaker 7 (53:53):
The only thing that I can think of, and this
wasn't just the Warriors, this is the Clippers. You have
to keep in mind twenty fourteen first round playoffs. This
is when the Donald Sterling racist tapes leaked and there
was talk from both ends about whether they would play
or not. So, yeah, that that might be what he's

(54:15):
referring to. But this idea that the NBA is blackballedom, No,
that the NBA doesn't get involved with teams firing or
firing coaches. Now they might, you know, put input to
teams and say, hey, they recommend someone, but they don't
want to go down that dangerous slope and pulling the

(54:35):
strings on how organizations do. So the reason why Mark
Jackson hasn't had a job has nothing to do with
the NBA. Has everything to do with the fact that
his time in Golden State did not end on a
good note and had very little to do with his
former NBA playing experience and his ex's and o's and
the respect that he had with the players. Had everything

(54:56):
to do with the fact that, you know, he was
seen as a limited coach in terms of adjustments and
be more creative with offensive sets, and just the way
you know he treated people on his coaching staff and
team staffers. I mean, players had sworn by him, and
you may recall when the Warriors fired him, you know,

(55:17):
Steph Curry and Draymond Green, in particular, were very vocal about,
you know, feeling upset that he was let go. But
these things don't have to be mutually exclusive. So I
think it's telling that since then he hasn't gotten an
NBA job or even that much interest. But it has
nothing to do with the league imposing anything.

Speaker 2 (55:38):
Actually, I can't let you go without addressing this. We're
exactly are the Lakers in their coaching search? And is
it fair to assume this could be a minute because
it feels like the Pickens are slim? Do you gold
the assistant route?

Speaker 7 (55:52):
Right?

Speaker 2 (55:52):
Do you reach out to a Charles Lee or a
Phil Handy or you know, I mean Botenholzer's gone. You're
not going to get Tyler maybybe Terry Stotts. What do
you do wor a JJ Reddick. Where do you think
the Lakers go?

Speaker 7 (56:05):
Yeah, Well, to clarify here, they can't go Charles League
because he's with Charlotte now. Phil Handy, no, because they
fired the whole staff. So I don't think they had
interest in Phil, even though he's a very respected assistant coach.
I was told a few days ago last week that
the feeling around the league and this isn't the Lakers.

(56:27):
This is just people around the league talking that they
thought Mike Boenholzer was the favorite candidate. Now that obviously changed.
The Sun's hired him, you know, very quickly after firing
Frank Vogel. But I was also told that the sense
was there would be more clarity and momentum during the
NBA Draft lottery because at that point they can talk

(56:49):
with different coaching candidates, different you know, agents that represent them,
et cetera. So I would expect there to be more progress,
you know, during this week because you know, the NBA
Draft combine in Chicago's are going to be taking place,
and you know, a credit to the athletics Van you know,
he was mentioning that Wolves's assistant coach Mike Mike and

(57:11):
Noriri and Nuggets assistant coach David Adelman are you know,
assistant coaches that are on the Lakers radar. But you know,
I want to be surprised that Terry Stotts is on
the radar. Two he was a coach that interviewed for
the head coaching position two years ago. And you know,
maybe Scott Brooks as well. You know, he was recently

(57:33):
let go of Portland. He has former head coaching experience.
But I think it's going to be interesting to see
are the Lakers interested in those two cannass head coaching
candidates or assistant coaching cans. I don't think that Stats
or Brooks would voluntarily say, oh yeah, I'll be willing
to be an assistant coach. I think they'd want to

(57:54):
be head coaches. But if they do go with another
assistant or you know, JJ Reddick, I want to be
surprised if they try to convince Terry and or Scott
to be part of whichever candidate's coaching staff that they
wind up hiring.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
Didn't Terry Stotts turned down an assistant job back in
twenty twenty two to Frank Vogel, and have they ever
reconciled whatever happened that incident with Ady and Griffin.

Speaker 7 (58:22):
I'm not sure. I don't think that's accurate about turning
down an assistant coaching job with Frank Vogel. But to
the larger point about what you're mentioning about Adrian Griffin,
that remains to be seen. But you know, I think
that like these things that could be more person driven
than philosophical driven about you know, how he feels about

(58:42):
being an assistant coach. I mean, ironically, I remember running
into him shortly before that incident happened, and he was,
you know, speaking a lot of great things about how
he loves it. He's came back into coaching, even though
he's not the head coach, so I would expect he'd
prefer to have the head seat. But you know, I
could also see philosophically he would be okay with being

(59:04):
an assistant coach as long as it's with the right person.

Speaker 2 (59:07):
Yeah, fair enough, Just for giggles, check that out. I
had heard that Stoughts turned down that assistant job in
twenty twenty two because he wanted to go back to Milwaukee,
that he thought that was maybe the best steppingstone. Mark,
great stuff as always, my friend. Enjoy your week ahead,
Thanks so much, appreciate you as Mark Medina Medina magic
are Fox Sports Radio NBA guru. We flipped to the NFL,

(59:31):
ever so briefly. Maybe the Chiefs were smart to draft
Xavier Worthy out of Texas. Giving details now emerging from
Rareshi Rice's latest body of work. I'm Bertie Fraddlewick Company
live from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tarat dot Com Studios,
keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back at the Bernie

but where she I is really developing a body of work.
The Kansas City Chiefs rookie, who had a pretty good
season and a pretty good Super Bowl, is now under
investigation over an alleged incident that took place at a

(01:00:12):
nightclub earlier this week and some details of surface. Rice
is being investigated by police after he was accused of
hating a photographer in Dallas at a club on Monday night.
According to police documents, around two am and after hours
party at a spot called Lit Kitchen Now. The photographer

(01:00:33):
told the cops he left the nightclub, but then returned
after we received a message from Rice in which Rice
indicated he wanted to hire him. But when the photographer
got back to the club, he says Rice handed him
a phone to look at something, and that Rice then
punched the man on the left side of the face.
The police report indicated that the photographer had swelling on

(01:00:56):
the jaws, complained to pain and went to a hospital.
My hasn't been arrested, are charged yet, but Dallas police
say the incident is under investigation. Rice is already dealing
with all kinds of legal trouble, recently charged with eight
felonies over his alleged role in a car crash that
took place in March. They were racing another car down

(01:01:16):
a freeway to high rate of speed, locked control of
the vehicle caused a crash, resulted in multiple injuries. The
videos all over the internet, and then he fled the scene. Plus,
Rashi Rice is facing multiple civil lawsuits related to the crash,
and it looks like he's headed to a fairly lengthy suspension.
Now you can't say they weren't warned. There was a

(01:01:38):
scouting report that says, well, Rashi Rice, he is fast,
he's got athletic ability, YadA YadA yah. But at least
one team removed him from their draft board because of
quote behavior issuals the quote he's talented but not a
good dude. One personnel director said, gee, you think starting
to wonder about Rashi Rice, and now you know why

(01:02:00):
the Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy. Coming up, we take a
look into this. Lakers coaching search. At one point there
were seven candidates, but I'm hearing only four are actually
gonna get interview. But first let's go to Chris Perffet
with the latest.

Speaker 8 (01:02:12):
Bernie long time here, Hello, Chris, Hi, how's it going.
Let's see here, let's talk revenge for Boston in the
NBA Eastern Semi Finals. Here they defeat the Cavaliers one
oh six to ninety three, Jason Tatum with thirty three
points thirteen rebounds as the Celtics lead the series now
two to one. Let's go over to the West, the

(01:02:33):
Oklahoma City Thunder fall to the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks
hold on late one oh five to one oh one.
Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncics twenty two points each in this game,
shake gilges Alexander with thirty one points, but ultimately for
not moving over to baseball, We've got the Dodgers. They
blank the Padres five zero. James Paxton pitched a four hit,

(01:02:53):
four strikeout performance in front of forty six thousand in
San Diego to Oscar Hernandez with a grand slam of
the six inning, but show Hey Tani had to leave
in the ninth back Titan. This is the report for
the time being. Dave Roberts says he'll get the game
off on Sunday. Here, Melanda Braves fell just short of
their first no hitter in thirty years, Bernie on the

(01:03:15):
final out of the game, JD. Martinez hitting a solo
home runoff riycel Iglesias to break up the party. Braves
still won against the Mets four to one. Scenes in Pittsburgh.
Here Paul Skeens his first MLB outing here, not a
start for him. He didn't go the full innings, but

(01:03:35):
he strikes. He strikes out seven, throwing over one hundred
miles per hour and heat. However, the Cubs ended up
drawing six straight six bases loaded walks in the fifth to.

Speaker 10 (01:03:45):
Take a lead.

Speaker 8 (01:03:46):
Pirates come back and they win that game ten to nine.
Going over to the NHL, it looks like that the
Carolina Hurricanes will live to fight again another day. They
held on against the Rangers four to three, and they
have avoided the sweep. Abs falt to Dallas Stars four
to one. Tyler Sagein with the winning goal in that
one NASCAR qualifying we got the good Year four hundred

(01:04:09):
and Darlington coming up here on FS one today, Tyler
Reddick taking the pole position there and the young phenom
ty Gibbs coming in at fourth, and many think he
might be coming up for a win anytime soon.

Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
Back to you, Bernie, you know the thing in that
Atlanta game, Max Freed, the starter had a no hitter
three seven, but he's throwing one hundred and nine pitches.
In this day and age of analytics, they yanked him.
That kind of stuff just makes my teeth itch. This
young man could have etched his name in the history books.
Look whatever, whatever, What do I know? So we talked

(01:04:44):
with with Mark Medina a little bit about the coaching search,
which I think will start to pick up steam the Lakers.
I don't think they're in a big hurry. I'm told
this could take as much as six weeks. But at
one point, about a week ago, as many as seven
coaching candidates and now they're starting to fall by the wayside.

(01:05:08):
Now I don't know if JJ Reddick is still one
of the candidates. I am told he is one of
the four who will get an interview. I don't get
to that in a minute. But this is interesting because
you would assume you want to prioritize experience in the
Lakers head coaching search because they truly believe they're a

(01:05:32):
championship caliber team. They truly believe that they have designs
and perhaps can win one more championship. Of course, you know,
people of hell on Icewater. Good luck to both of you.
I would say this, but even if you hire a
coach with experience, does that guarantee success? Well you know

(01:05:52):
the answer to that question, And one only needs to
look at Steve Kerr. Before he became the four time
NBA champion head coach for the Golden State Warriors, Steve
Kerr had not only never served as a head coach,
he'd never even been an assistant at any level. So
all of a sudden, now you're seeing the name JJ

(01:06:14):
Reddick being bandied about. Now, there have been opportunities in
the past for JJ Reddick to become an assistant coach.
Teams have previously reached out to Reddick, but he kind
of likes his gig. He's an NBA analyst. He can
come and go as he wants, He works his own schedule.
There's no pressure to win, and I think Reddick's not
the type of guy that's a plus one if you

(01:06:36):
get my drift the way he carries himself. But there
is one thing about Reddick that should I would think
create a lot of curiosity. He has very high basketball IQ.
He's going to be very savvy with the media, and
I'm told he jaels quite well with players other players.
And one appealing fact, we are told that Reddick has

(01:06:57):
a very good relationship with Lebron James. Those two of
you know, I don't know their best ease, but they
hang out and I've even done a podcast together. But
I would say that from what I hear, Lebron James
has a lot of respect on JJ Redick and his
general mind for the game and his brain for the game,

(01:07:17):
and in terms of Reddick's thoughts and how to prosecute
an offense and offensive concepts and things like that. If
you hire JJ Reddick, you're gonna have to get coaches
with experience around him. But I don't think you can
rule it out now. A week and a half ago,
Tyron lou was mentioned in that mix. I think that

(01:07:38):
ship has pretty much just sail. Not to dot my mind,
the Clippers are going to, you know, wrap him up.
Charles Lee, a Boston Celtics assistant coach. I think he's
been crossed off the list. Mike Budenholzer was there about
a week ago. He's been crossed off the list. I

(01:08:00):
always wondered if Mike Budenholzer was the scapegoat when he
got fired a couple of years ago. I know Jannis
wanted Ady and Griffin got his wish. It blew up
in the face of the organization. Actually, Griffin was like
thirty and thirteen before Doc Rivers took over. I guess
I'll never really know what happened there. Budenholzer, it was

(01:08:20):
presumed he was going to get an opportunity with another team,
and he has. He's landing quite nicely in Phoenix. You
scratch him off the dance card. That leadst potentially Kenny Atkinson,
all right, He's a familiar name among coaching candidates. It's
my understanding the Lakers targeted Kenny Atkinson. I think a
couple of years ago he was allegedly poised to take

(01:08:43):
over for the Charlotte Hornets. But that move meant relocating
his family or relocating him away from his family for
a long time. I guess it never really materialized. The
bottom line is what would Kenny Atkinson bring to the Lakers. Well,
you know, at his time in Brooklyn, Kenny Atkinson was

(01:09:03):
very highly regarded for a guy who was very well
devoted to player development. He took over a Nets team
and a roster that was complete, you know, completely in
the doldrums. And give Kenny Atkinson credit back in twenty
sixteen twenty seventeen, he built the or helped, you know,
rebuild the Brooklyn Nets from a twenty win team to
a forty two year win team. A couple years later,

(01:09:26):
then he was pushed out the door, so Kyie Irving
and Kevin Durant could be coached by Steve Nash. And
you know, Atkinson's not perfect, but none of these coaches are,
and he might be a good addition to the Lakers.
I don't know, we're just spitballing here. As you heard
Mark say Phil Handy, he was part of the staff

(01:09:47):
that was broomed. But look, you know, I would say
Phil Handy is a guy that could have been a
coaching candidate. All right. There are rumors, and I'm not
plugged in here at all, but there are rumors that
among the ranks, many players in the locker room wanted

(01:10:09):
Handy to replace Darvin Ham as head coach earlier in
the season. Ownership kay botch that, but you know, now
that the whole staff's been roomed, do you maybe consider
bringing him back if the Lakers are determined to keep
Lebron and I believe they certainly will. Lebron actually does
have a relationship with Handy back to the championship, you know,

(01:10:31):
team with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Plus Handy's this is his
second go round with the Lakers. He was there ten
years ago, and before he joined the club as an
assistant four or five years ago, so he's earned the
opportunity to be a head coach, and the word is
he would have the support of the locker room. But again,
they've broomed the whole staff. So I think the Lakers
are all about trying to sell the press conference, and

(01:10:52):
that might be a difficult press conference to sell given
the situation, which leads us back to Terry Stotts to
Marry Stats. Was fired by the Portland Trail Blazers three
years ago after they got knocked out in the first round,
and he, you know, got back to a short lived
stay with the Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant. I don't
know what the incident was with Adrian Griffin, but he

(01:11:15):
I think he quit him before the season started. I
am told by someone I trust, but I also trust
Mark Medina. But you know, I'm told by someone I
trust that Stotts was on the radar when the Lakers
were looking for a coach back in twenty twenty two,
but they only wanted him as an assistant to Frank Vogel.
He turned it down, and I think he was hopeful
that that return to Milwaukee would give him a springboard

(01:11:38):
to revitalize his career. But obviously that didn't work out
in Milwaukee. But if you're the Lakers and you want
to coach who has a resume and has plenty of
you know, demonstrated ability to work with star players, well
that's Terry Stats and I'm told he's very well liked

(01:12:00):
by players, which would be very beneficial when you consider
the issues that the Lakers allegedly had with Darvin Ham
this season, and you know, people complained about Darvin Ham
and his rotations and his offense, and the belief is
that Terry Stotts would be an improvement over what LA
had under Darvin Ham. Although can he really work magic

(01:12:23):
with the same roster? So those were the seven suspects.
Now we're down to the four prospects. I am told
that the Lakers have narrowed their search to four names
that are all expected to interview. Coming up, I will
share with you what those names are. By the way,

(01:12:46):
shortly after the show tonight, our podcast will be going up.

(01:13:07):
We'll be taking care of that. Coming up, If you
are interested, we will share with you the four names
that the Lakers have narrowed their head coaching church down to.
At least act this point. I'm Bernie Fraddle or come
to your life from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, tirect
dot com studios. Keep it locked, The Bernie Fraddle Show,
Fox Sports Radio. All right, back on the Bernie Fraddle Show,

(01:13:28):
Fox Sports Radio, coming to you live from the tirerac
dot com studios. Here in a Las Vegas, taking up
to three am Pacific six am Eastern in about an
hour and eleven minutes. Of course, the dance sensation sweep
in the nation. What kind of brand new fool of you?

(01:13:50):
Followed by what my name? And boy do I have
a doozy tonight? The one I've got tonight? And the
brand new fool is by far the most unique one
I think I've ever done. All right, Lakers are still
obviously looking to replace their recently fired head coach, Darvin Ham,
and it's leaking out now. I am certainly not an
insider on this, but it's been leaking out. There are

(01:14:12):
four major candidates that the Lakers are targeting, Kenny Atkinson,
JJ Reddick, David Edelman, and James Barrego. Those are the
four that I believe will be invited to interview for
the coach opening, which this would be a little if

(01:14:33):
you're scoring at home, and I hope you are. This
is Lebron's fourth coach now in a short Laker era,
and it will end up being the seventh coach since
the inimitable Phil Jackson retired. Now Los Angeles, the Lakers
are heading into this upcoming season with I think a

(01:14:56):
hell of a lot of uncertainty, a lot of questions, clearly,
I mean after they hired after the twenty one twenty
two season, they fired Frank Boge, excuse me, then they
hired Darvin Ham. He gets to the conference finals, and
then all of a sudden, there's allegedly all these disastrous situations,
and you know Lebron James is laying in the wings

(01:15:16):
and June twenty ninth he can opt out. She know
he's not gonna do all this dramas so stupid. So
rather than speculate, I what Lebron's gonna do, or if
they're gonna draft Bronni or who's gonna do what and where,
or whether they're gonna eat dinner at Clifton's cafeteria, let's
focus on the here and now. The Lakers have four

(01:15:38):
head coaching candidates they've circled the wagons on at least
to start to kick the tires now, but only two
of them have previous head coaching experience, Kenny Atkinson and
James Barrego. Right I mentioned about ten minutes ago. Atkinson
I thought did a very serviceable job at the Brooklyn Nets,
getting him from a twenty win team to a forty
two win team, and then he signed Kevin Durant and

(01:16:00):
Irving and then let the circus begin. He was eighty
games under five hundred with four seasons with Brooklyn, but
no one would have won with that team, complete dumpster fire.
And then Atkinson was kicked out of Brooklyn, I think unfairly,
he was named an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. Now,

(01:16:22):
if you're not familiar with James Barrego, James Bargo was
the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets from twenty eighteen
to twenty twenty two, and then, by the way, I
believe he's also been an assistant under Greg Popovich in
San Antonio. But he was forced out of Charlotte two

(01:16:44):
years ago. Why well, he was one thirty eight and
one sixty three. You know, they talk about the NFL
being not for long. The NBA is not for long.
I mean, look, look again, look what's happened in Phoenix.
They're on their third coach in thirty years, and what
do you all right, don't get me started. The third choice,
David Adelman, perhaps might be the most intriguing. He's been

(01:17:09):
a top assistant in Denver since twenty seventeen. He is
considered a top candidate, and he has you know, subed
for Mike Malone during the regular season last year. And
it would be hard to see him, though, being a

(01:17:29):
Lakers headman, because they're going to be They're probably gonna
try to get him on the cheap, and I don't
think he'd go for that. There'd be salary issues, okay,
if you're gonna get a guy like David Adelmant. But
I'll tell you what he would bring. He would bring
a culture perhaps maybe that Denver has employed that the
Lakers could could maybe use right for obvious reasons, all right,

(01:17:51):
the wild card in the room, and just for the
fear of it all. This is the one I want
to see. JJ Reddick may have no previous experience in
the NBA. Now he did play in the league for
fifteen years, head coaching experience, excuse me, average twelve points
a game, pretty good shooter, better than average, and he's
been a really very good, I think, outspoken analysis analyst

(01:18:16):
on ESPN and even has a podcast called The Old
Man in the Three. And I think JJ Reddick would
be crazy to turn it down. I think it'd be fabulous,
and the Lakers need to nail this coaching higher. But
there's just no sure thing out there. There is just
no sure thing out there. And I mentioned earlier that

(01:18:38):
he may not have experience, but then again, neither did
Steve Kerr when he got hired by the Golden State Warriors.
So I don't know. Lakers fans be very concerned, be
very worried because you don't know what's going to happen
coming up. We don't talk hockey a lot, but did
ESPN and the New York Rangers and the Hurricanes have

(01:18:59):

we begin here? Last Tuesday night, there was a major
error during a telecast of Game two between the We'm

(01:19:46):
talking about the Stanley Cup NHL playoffs between the Carolina
Hurricanes and the New York Rangers, and I'm gonna set
this up at a minute, and how it absolutely conjured
up memories of one of the most infant this television
incidence in the history of not only just sports television,
but television in general. But let me start this way. Uh, Ian,

(01:20:10):
you're a big time sports fan. What's your favorite team?

Speaker 10 (01:20:14):
My favorite team is the New York Jets.

Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
New York Jets. And you grew up there or just
what what led to that affection?

Speaker 10 (01:20:21):
Yeah, I'm originally from Brooklyn.

Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
Oh very nice. Have you been able to find a
good egg cream in Los Angeles? Uh?

Speaker 10 (01:20:29):
You know, I actually this kind of embarrassing to have met.
I actually really don't like eggs.

Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
So no, you know a cream is it is the
just the Brooklyn staple, the Seltzer and the chocolate. You
know what I'm talking about, right, It's like it's like
a chocolate shake.

Speaker 10 (01:20:43):
Oh yeah, okay, no, but no they say, no one.

Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
Knows how to make them out here. But okay, let's
let's move past that. Who is like when the Jets
are give me the one team. If the Jets are
playing you, you're not gonna miss that game the Patriots. Okay,
so the Jets and Patriots. So let's say the Jets
are playing the Patriots and all of a sudden, the
Jets have finally got it together here and they're marching

(01:21:07):
toward the playoffs and they're trailing by a field goal,
and there's thirty seconds to go in the game or
a minute to go in the game, and you're watching it.
All of a sudden, for whatever reason, the broadcast cuts
away to something else. What's going on in your head?

Speaker 10 (01:21:23):
Yeah, I'd be passed it better be better be something
pretty damn important.

Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
What if it wasn't important? What if it was just
like another show?

Speaker 10 (01:21:32):
Yeah, uh yeah, I'd take to social media or something.

Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
I mean, you go, you would. You wouldn't take it, dude. Okay,
So hold that thought. Jets Patriots. You're all fired up,
ready to see the Jets finally make some noise, get
to the playoffs, and the rugs pulled out right from
under your feet and you are left wondering, which is
a terrible feeling for human beings right. We don't like uncertainty.
We can deal with good news. We will deal with

(01:21:59):
bad news, but no one likes uncertainty. And you're under
what the hell happened? I paid my cable bill. I
paid the bill, all right? So Mark Ramsey, I know
you're a big time Chicago Bears fan, right, yes, yes, yes,
And when the Bears are playing fill in the blank.

Speaker 11 (01:22:14):
You're not in a green Bay Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (01:22:16):
That's an obvious one. So let's say all of a sudden,
Caleb Williams and Bears got it going in Green Bay.
Now Blambell Field, it's December for one of these maybe
they go to the playoffs inners a minute ago in
the game and they cut away to leave it to Beaver.
What are you thinking?

Speaker 11 (01:22:37):
I'm thinking, who messed up?

Speaker 10 (01:22:39):
I've got to know?

Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
Oh, nicely done. That's an old Howard Coastell quote.

Speaker 7 (01:22:43):
Rank you so much?

Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
Yes? Whose goofed?

Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
Please?

Speaker 11 (01:22:46):
I've got to know, please chip your waitress.

Speaker 12 (01:22:49):
I know about that because I'm in the age range
or I know that happened to my dad, and I
just know what happened because of that TV station switching
to something that was at the time a very very
popular show, and somebody hit the button because it was
time for that particular show to come on, and someone

(01:23:12):
cut away from the game because their priority was I
got to put this show on. I'm not gonna worry
about this game because whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
Well coming up, I'm going to tell that story in detail.
But why are we even talking about this? Look, nobody's perfect.
But he was not. Sindcast the first stone. But esp
had made a major error during its telecast Game two
Monday night between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers.
The game is tied in the filamental regulation. The network

(01:23:43):
accidentally cut to Game one between the Colorado Avalanche and
the Dallas Stars. It wasn't good three to three. They're
battling in the final minute. All of a sudden, the
ESPN broadcast goes dark. Now the Rangers, they at that
point had led the Eastern Conference semifinal series one game
to one, game to nothing. They're on a power play

(01:24:05):
and they're about to set up their attack. There's fifty
seconds to go in the game in regulation when the
broncams booth accidentally cuts to the pregame scenes in Dallas.
Now the Dallas Stars in the Colorado Avalanche were about
to begin Game one of their series in Dallas at
American Airline Center, but the boat the game was supposed

(01:24:28):
to be apparently televised on ESPN U not ESPN until
the Rangers Hurricanes game came to an end, and I
guess the network stayed on the Stars Rangers broadcast for
about twenty seconds before they caught themselves and went back
to Madison Square Garden. Fortunately, no one missed any goals, well,

(01:24:52):
nobody missed any action, nobody missed anything, and then that
game actually ended up going overtime. But those twenty seconds
all way that were cut away from the Rangers Hurricanes
game felt like an eternity to all the New York
fans in Carolina fans that were watching. Social media completely
blew up. Like Ian said, I mean really during a

(01:25:15):
powerplay with a minute left, blah blah blah. People were
going crazy. These are just you know, no name people
on Twitter. Did ESPN just switch away from a Rangers
game or a power play in the final minute of
a tie game? And these are all caps. These are
all in caps with plenty of exclamation points. I almost
just lost it. ESPN now changing from the Rangers game,

(01:25:37):
on and on on on real ESPN cutting away from
the final minute of a Tide game. And then here
it came. A tweeter by the name of John J.
Streemsky said, ESPN almost pulled a Heidi bowl at the
end of the Rangers game. Get it together, what's the
Hidi Ball. I'm gonna tell you you're gonna want to

(01:26:01):
hear this story. Many of you already know it, most
have probably forgotten the details, but anyway, it slice it.
Oh my goodness, it was a beauty. It will never
be lived down in the infamy of broadcast tellision television,
particularly sports television. I'm gonna share the details. Coming up.

(01:26:22):
Grab a beer, get comfortable in your chair. You're gonna
like this story. I'm Bernie Fraddler comes to you live
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tarac dot Com studios.
Keep it locked right here. You're listening to the Bernie
Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. Hi, we're back of
the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio, coming to live
from Tarac dot Com studios here in Las Vegas. Coming

(01:26:43):
up top of the hour, about forty four minutes. The
dance sensation sweep of the Nation, what kind of brand
new fool of you? Followed by what my name? All right?
So by now you've heard the other night ESPN cuts
away from a hockey game. They were able to get
it back within twenty seconds, but once social media blew up,

(01:27:03):
it didn't take long before a reference to the infamous
Heidi Bowl. So let's set this up, because this is
a story that's got a lot of layers. The Heidi
bowld involved a football game played in Oakland November seventeenth,
nineteen sixty eight, between the Oakland Raiders and the New

(01:27:24):
York Jets. Now you want to talk about a rivalry,
the director of public relations, Frank Ronalds the New York
Jets once set at the time when the Jets played
the Raiders, it wasn't a rivalry, it was a war. Now,
this was that same New York Jets team that would
go on two months later to beat the Baltimore Colts
in the Super Bowl. Super Bowl three has seventeen point underdogs.

(01:27:46):
Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. This is also
a game that featured ten future Hall of Famers. But
you got to set this up. You see NFL games
take forever to play. Now, but back in the late sixties,
most football games took right around two to two and
a half hours to play, never longer than two and

(01:28:07):
a half hours, but they were given a three hour
time slot. They were always a lot of a three
hour time slot to play the games, and that was
always thought to be adequate, and typically it was. But
you get too highly charged teams like the Raiders and Jets,
you got penalties, you got fights, you got injuries. It
was a high scoring contest and there were so many

(01:28:30):
passes through and both quarterbacks combined for thirty winning completion,
so there was lots of play stoppages. All of a sudden,
you started to climb close to seven pm Eastern Time,
in which NBC was obligated to broadcast a television movie
by the name of Heidi. Yes, Heidi. Well, the executives

(01:28:55):
could see that this game was coming down to the wire,
and they apparently made some sort of decision, we can't
cut away from this game. But somewhere along the line,
signals got crossed and one thing led to another, and

(01:29:16):
sure enough the network cut away from the game to
the movie Heidi. Well, here's where it gets interesting. They
were basically sixty five seconds in the game at that point,
and the score was tied twenty nine to twenty nine.

(01:29:37):
So right after they cut away, the Jets kicked the
field goal to take a thirty to two to twenty
nine lead, and then they kicked off. This is where
it really gets crazy. The Jets kick off, the Raiders
returned the ball to drown twenty three yard line Hoham right,
trailing thirty two to twenty nine. But then the Raiders
quarterback Daryl Lamonica completed a twenty yard pass to a

(01:30:00):
half back by the name of Charlie Smith, who was
face masked by the Jets safety. That play put the
ball damn near midfield. This time, Lamonica found Smith again,
who raced the defense down the sideline for a fifty
yard touchdown all of a sudden now just like that,

(01:30:22):
with no one able to see the game, The extra
point gives the Raiders a thirty six to thirty two
lead with forty two seconds left to play. On the
ensuing kickoff, the Jets had a kick returner by the
name of Earl Christy. He fumbles the ball. The Raiders
pick it up at the two yard line by one

(01:30:44):
of their special teams players who runs it in for
a touchdown. The Raiders go from being tied twenty nine
to twenty nine to trailing thirty two to twenty nine,
and in a nine second the Raiders scored two touchdowns
to win one of the more infamous games in NFL

(01:31:06):
history by a score of forty three to thirty two.
And you really want to add insult to injury, Let's
pretend you were the New York Jets and you were
getting seven and a half points that day. You not
only lost the game, you didn't even cover the spread.
The Oakland Raiders won that game forty three to thirty two.

(01:31:30):
Now a month later, the Jets would get their come
ups and beat the Raiders in the AFC Championship Game,
the AFL Championship Game, and you know they went on
to win the Super Bowl. All right, how does this happen?
How does this happen? Well, first of all, the game
took forever. The two starting quarterbacks, like I said, combined

(01:31:52):
for thirty one incomplete passes. And every time you have
an incomplete pass, the clock stops in every incompletion. Oh yeah,
because it was a chippy game and the two teams
hated each other, there were nineteen penalties called that's more
clock stoppages. Back then, teams each got six timeouts. Each
team used all six of their allocated timeouts, and when

(01:32:16):
you consider all the scores that were made, they led
the more commercial breaks. Total seventy five points were scored.
The executives could see this game was going to take
longer than people realized. And here's what's interesting. NBC had
a vice president name Chet Simmons. I'm sure you've heard

(01:32:37):
that name. And when they started to realize about half
an hour before Haii was supposed to start at seven
PM that the game might end, they just, for some reason,
they kept promoting Heidi. They kept promoting the that Heidie's
coming up at seven o'clock. And Julian Goodman, the president
of the company, said, there's no way this game's gonna

(01:33:01):
end by seven o'clock, but Heidi has to start on time.
They have to start Heidi because the network had made
a commitment to start Heidi. And then they're looking at
themselves and say that this cannot be. This cannot be
the collision course we're looking for. And sure enough, it
was the collision course we're looking for. And network executives

(01:33:22):
were calling back and forth. People were losing their minds.
What do we do? They ran into this collision course
and one thing led to another, and they cut away
from the game. And this is where it gets interesting. Obviously,
there was no Twitter back in nineteen sixty eight, but

(01:33:43):
there was one hell of a viewer reaction. When NBC
realized that they were switching away from the game, a
couple of executives called each other and said that maybe
weren't looped in, said, we're the the hell is our
football game gone? And then the station went to a

(01:34:05):
station break, and the executives were dialing each other feverishly
and going back and forth. And for the record, the
game actually ended officially at seven oh seven PM. And
if they, you know, in today's day and age, we
just would have gone over. That's just simply what we
would have happened. But all hell broke loose by that point.

(01:34:28):
Thousands and thousands of calls were lobbed into the network
to complain about missing at the end of the football game.
Callers called newspapers, they called television stations, They even called
the New York City Police Department. Some of them wanted
to vent, most just wanted to know what the hell
the final score of the game was. There was a

(01:34:52):
humorist by the name of Art Buckwald, I believe he
wrote for the New York Times for a long time.
He said, quote, men, these are men who wouldn't even
get out of their chain during an earthquake. They were
rushing to their phones to obscream insanities at the network.
And when people started to learn the outcome of the game,
some gamblers really started to become upset because, as I
just mentioned, that final touchdown on the fubbo kickoff allowed

(01:35:16):
the Raiders to win by more than a point spread
at seven and a half. Can you imagine that, Ian?
Can you imagine that not only does your favorite team lose,
but you got a plus seven and a half, you
thinking you won the bet. There's sixty seconds left in
the game, it's tied. You kick a field goal to
go ahead, which you didn't see.

Speaker 10 (01:35:36):
I'd be mad enough, But on once you bring money
into it, that that's where you really start to start
to have an issue.

Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
This is all the way around an absolute disaster. Now
the network realized at this point, all right, again, you
didn't have any kind of the media technology that you
had that you have now, and so the networks is

(01:36:04):
what do we do? So they ran sort of the
sports bulletin, which must have looked very crude on the TV,
because people needed to know. People wanted to know the
outcome of the game so badly they were calling the
New York City Police Department. True story, thousands of calls
jammed NBC, thousands of calls jammed the New York Times.

(01:36:26):
So finally, and in attempts to inform the audience of
the final outcome of the game, NBC displays this message
across the bottom of the TV in bold capital letters,
sports bulletin, Raiders defeat Jets forty three to thirty two.
And it was nothing more than an on screen news
update that appeared superimposed over the movie. And it happened

(01:36:50):
apparently during a very pivotal scene during the Heidi movie.
I won't tell you what it is. You can google
it and find out. And nonely, this is a mystery.
And so all of a sudden, now you have the
You already have the football fans pissed off, beyond out
of their mind realizing what they had missed, and they're incredulous.

(01:37:12):
Now you got the Heidi audience pissed at having this
football score and trude on the story the Heidi movie,
and apparently it involved a very touching moment during the
movie having to do with a young girl who's paralyzed
taking her first steps trying to walk. Yeah, you talk
about the perfect storm. I mean, there was no way

(01:37:36):
NBC could dig themselves out of them. Finally, the executive
started to issue statements apologizing for the incident, saying, you know,
we missed the end of the game too. We're sorry.
This is an unforgivable error committed by humans. We were
concerned because millions of families and children were expecting to
see the movie. They've been pro going it all weekend

(01:37:59):
and the following morning. I understand there was a meeting
Monday morning that was a network fiasco that was just
completely crazy, right, And uh, they even asked Joe Namath,
what do you think about what do you think about
the network cutting away to the Heidi movie, And obviously

(01:38:22):
Namath was already pissed off about losing the game the
way that they lost the game. In typical Joe Namath fashion,
he says, well, as far as the movie, I didn't
get a chance to see it, but I heard it
was great. I mean he just pat and pushed it. Well. Obviously,
the network you know, swung into action and they realized

(01:38:42):
that this can never happen again. This can never happen again.
And uh, the network started to change its procedures that
if games weren't going to finish before the other programming begins,
they have, you know, ways to handle around it, which
has now become sort of stamped entered practice. I mean,
this is a long time ago for kronaw This is

(01:39:03):
fifty six years ago. It was just the perfect storm
of events, a series of events that just completely muddled together.
The game ran late, lots of scoring, penalties, fights, injuries,
and if the Jets would have won, the truth of
the matter is it might not have been as big
of a deal because it all centered around New York
and NBC and what had happened there. But the fact

(01:39:25):
that the Jets lost and they even cover the spread, right,
and it turns out the team that I mean, even
the team itself, they were just completely enraged how this
could happen? Right, This was just simply a situation that
it was a bad look all the way around. So
you know, you really can't pooh, pooh, what happened the

(01:39:48):
other night in the hockey game? Because the truth of
the matter is when people on Twitter are remembering something
that happened fifty six years ago and they're watching their
favorite team and there's less than a minute to goo
and a teams get ready to go to a power play,
it's a gaming to overtime. What's going to happen? And uh,
you know, I guess you can. You can, certainly anybody

(01:40:11):
listening here, anybody who's a sports fan can can really
realize that this is a you know, there's an old
saying they say that, you know, sports is it's it's
not life and death. Well it's actually more important than that.
Or you know, sure sports is life and death. Sure
the Grand Canyon just to hold in Arizona. People take

(01:40:32):
this stuff serious. Good news is the Jet's defeat of
the Raiders twenty seven to twenty three. About a month later,
they went on to defeat the Colts in Super Bowl three.
But forever, the Heidi Bowl will never be lived down.

Speaker 13 (01:40:45):
There.

Speaker 2 (01:40:45):
You have it. Let's go to Dan Byer with the latest.

Speaker 9 (01:40:52):
I hope no one's going to interrupt me during these
ninety seconds of great information burning.

Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
My friend.

Speaker 9 (01:40:59):
I am oh, I am not preempted by Heidi. We'll
give it a shot, all right. Celtics top the Cavaliers
on Saturday Night, one o six to ninety three. Jason
Tatum thirty three points, thirteen rebounds, six assists in the
victory Jalen Brown at twenty eight. Celtics came out of
the gates in the second half and Cleveland never got close.

Speaker 2 (01:41:19):
In fact, the closest they got was nine.

Speaker 9 (01:41:21):
Boston rights their wrongs and now again up to one
in the best of seven series. Mavericks meat the Thunder
one oh five to one oh one. Dallas up in
that series two to one. Sunday's a big day of
the NBA. The draft lottery will be taking place at
three o'clock Eastern time. The Pistons and Wizards have the
best odds to get the number one overall pick. Soon

(01:41:42):
after that three thirty Eastern it's Game four between the
Nix and Pacers, and then at night eight o'clock Eastern time,
Nuggets and Timberwolves will play their Game four. Stanley Cup
playoffs saw the Stars go to Denver and top the Avalanche,
final score for to one. Dallas now up two to
one in the series. Hurricanes were victors against the Rangers
four to three, avoiding the sweep and staying alive, but

(01:42:04):
the Rangers remain up three one. Good news for the Dodgers,
and there was a bunch of it. On Saturday night
they topped the Padres in front of a record crowd
at Petko Park. Forty six thousand, seven hundred and one
witnessed this ready to go Delo Santos pitch and her
name is hangs.

Speaker 5 (01:42:22):
HiT's a drive deep to the field.

Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
It's a Grand.

Speaker 9 (01:42:26):
Slam to fourth career Grand Slam Parteoscar Hernandez.

Speaker 5 (01:42:33):
And with two outs he knocks them all.

Speaker 9 (01:42:35):
In a lot of Dodger fans in San Diego, it
sounded like on AM five to seventy LA Sports and
the Dodgers Radio Network they would top the Padres by
that five nothing score. But sho he Otani did experience
a back discomfort in the ninth inning. He is not
likely to play in the series finale. Later on today,
Athletics stop the Mariners eight one, Angels were nine three

(01:42:56):
victors against the Royals, and the Rockies took care of
the Rangers, a winning streak for Colorado. They've won three
straight Rocks, win that one eight to three. Xander Schaffley
leads the Wells Fargo Championship by one shot over Rory McElroy,
and the Chargers signed veteran pass rusher Bud Dupree to
a two year deal. NASCAR Cup Series racing on Fox

(01:43:17):
Sports one on Sunday from Darlington. That's where you can
catch it, Bernie, it's all yours, Dan.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
You're quite a historian. I'm sure you are familiar with
the Heidi Bowl, that whole story somewhat.

Speaker 9 (01:43:28):
Yes, you know a little before my time, but you know,
just the parameters and some of the stuff that you
were talking about, not everything you were talking about, but
some of the stuff you were talking about.

Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
It's one of those things that will never be lived on,
as evidenced by the tweets the other night. And I'm
sure you were aware of what happened in that hockey
game and how they cut away. Yes, people were losing
their minds and that was over twenty seconds. Twenty seconds
seemed like an eternity. And you know what's interesting, Dan,
imagine if you were a network that paid one hundred
million dollars to carry a couple of games, and you

(01:44:01):
are a consumer and you paid to watch those games,
and that same thing happened, what might happen in today's.

Speaker 9 (01:44:07):
World day, Oh my goodness, the lawsuits and everything that
would come with it.

Speaker 2 (01:44:11):
Didn't you think of that. That's a good point, man, Dan.

Speaker 9 (01:44:14):
Great to have you tonight, but thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
And the reason I segue that is because, believe it
or not, Netflix, he's on the verge of landing two
big NFL games. All Right, we know that the NFL
is going to play games on Christmas Day again this
upcoming season. Here's what's different. A new provider could be
carrying the action. It's being reported that the NFL is

(01:44:38):
very close to nearing an agreement with Netflix for the
doublehead of Christmas Day games that are gonna be played
in twenty twenty four on a Wednesday, and they're going
to be broadcast wait for it, on a streaming service. Yes, Netflix. No,
if you have Netflix and you pay the I think
it's eleven ninety nine a month, like either you get
the games, but she's got to pay for it now
right now. Apparently it's the deal's not done yet. This

(01:45:00):
two sides have to clear some hurdles, but every source
talk to about this believes the deal's gonna get done now.
The NFL schedule was supposed to initially be released last Thursday.
That's been delayed till next Wednesday. Why because apparently that
negotiation between the NFL and Netflix whether the primary reason
the schedule release was pushed back. Three NFL games were

(01:45:24):
played on Christmas Day last season, and they blew up.
They were carried by Fox, ESPN, and ABC. Those games
were on a Monday, but with Christmas falling out on
Wednesday this year, there was some question about whether the
NFL would want to have games in the middle of
the week. Well, they're going to make no mistake, and
money talks and how much is Netflix going to pay
for this? As much as one hundred million dollars to

(01:45:47):
carry a Christmas Day doubleheader. We're not talking about a
season where the games. We're talking about two games. You
imagine if they paid for those two games or one
of those games, and you, as a consumer are paying
for Netflix and something cuts away. Okay, we know it's
not going to happen. It was only a matter of
time before Netflix got a piece of the pie. Everybody

(01:46:08):
wants in have you forgotten? Hasn't been that long ago?
Amazon is now. Actually they did this in February. They
pay a record price for the first or check that.
Let me start over. Amazon in February paid a record

(01:46:29):
price for the opportunity to broadcast one NFL playoff game.
Now you remember last year I did this on my
midnight hour people on Friday night. People were not happy.
The NFL had a lot of backlash last year for
giving a streaming platform exclusive rights to a playoff game.
But it worked because they're coming right back for a

(01:46:52):
second back of the apple because Amazon paid a record
amount of money for them to do it again this
year year. Let's reset the stage. Remember last December that
or checked that it was in? It checked that it
was in. It was in January. It was the AFC
Wildcard game between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs.

(01:47:13):
NBC their Peacock service, they had the exclusive rights to
that game. And Amazon is paying one hundred and twenty
million dollars to get one playoff game again this year.
They paid one hundred and ten million last year. Now
you may wonder why they would do that, Well, Peacock,

(01:47:33):
I believe they charged someone's gonna have to look this
up for maybe even one of the guys could look
it up. I forget what the price was. It was
not an exorbitant amount of money. Let's say seven to
ninety nine, all right, in two twenty two million viewers,
twenty three million viewers. Peacock had one playoff game. Now,

(01:47:55):
thank god it was Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes versus
the Miami Dolphins. But they drew twenty three million viewers.
So what multiply that times what it was seven ninety
ninety there's one hundred and eighty million. You pay a
hundred million, you bring home one hundred and eighty. You
don't have to be felleeny to figure out the math.
That's pretty good on that, isn't it. Well it gets

(01:48:18):
even better. We had a Black Friday broadcast this past
year and Aaron Rodgers didn't even play. It was shown
on Prime Video. It drew just under ten million viewers.
So you get Amazon together, you get Prime Video together,
you get Netflix together. They're all bidding on this stuff.
Amazon already has the exclusive rights to the NFL's Thursday

(01:48:39):
night football package, but they have a good chance at
breaking Peacock's viewership record depending on which teams play in
their wild card game this year. Because Amazon is in
the fray. Yep, it never ends. Roger Goodell knows what
the hell he's doing. Man, This is a league that
just sent prints money. The NFL has built a machine

(01:49:04):
that can only go forward. Coming up. You don't talk
a lot of baseball here, but a couple notes this
week that are worth mentioning, including give it up to
the Baltimore Orioles. What have they done? Well, They've done
something that's quite a streak. You have to go back
to nineteen forty four to see when that street had

(01:49:26):
been previously held. I'm Bernie Fradder were Comedy Line from
Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tarreck dot Com studios. Keep
it locked The Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio Comedy
Live from me Tarak dot Com studios here in Las
Vegas were just fifteen minutes away from the dance sensation
sweep in the nation. What kind of brand new fool

(01:49:47):
of you? Followed by what my name? I got a
real newsy tonight, just to tighten up a bit of business,
I was trying to recall what they charged. Peacock charged
for that wild card game last January between the Chiefs
and the Dolphins, in which they did get twenty three

(01:50:09):
million viewers, and Ian has looked it up. Ian, what'd
you find?

Speaker 10 (01:50:13):
It's five to ninety nine.

Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
I was wrong. So even if you multiply five ninety nine,
that's he won twenty one thirty, one hundred and thirty
eight million. If you spend one hundred million, you bring
in one hundred and thirty eight million. No wonder why
they're all vying for that again. This is, by the way,
this is gonna be the way of the world. Ian,
what do you think, man, you're gonna we're gonna be
paying now streaming services for some of these games on

(01:50:40):
a go forward basis? What are your thoughts?

Speaker 10 (01:50:41):
I just wish it was all in one place, you know.
It's the annoying part is that I really don't have
an issue with with NFL being on Netflix or Peacock.
I just wish it was it was one place.

Speaker 6 (01:50:52):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
So Amazon, well, they all want a piece of the pie, right,
So it's understandable, it is. It's crazy, yeah, getting crazier.
I mean, that's why they had to hold up the
schedule because Netflix has that Christmas date double header. Now
apparently they're tightening up paying one hundred million dollars for
two football games. And you know what, we're all you

(01:51:14):
kidd me, what better captive audience? All right? I talked
about this head the end of the break. We don't
talk a hell of a lot of baseball. And you
have may have noticed that the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night
beat the Arizona Diamondbacks five to four. Ogles are good, man,
They get the best record in the American League. What's

(01:51:37):
the significance, Well, they're actually a significance. Now. It started
the other night on Thursday, the Orioles beat the Washington
Nationals seven to six. It took them twelve innings to
do it. The game was a bit of a nail bier.
What did it do? It extended one of the most
incredible streaks in Major League Baseball history. For Yahoo Sports,

(01:51:58):
the Orioles have now gone on one hundred and three
consecutive regular season series without being swept. That is the
longest streak in American League history, and the third longest
ever only the nineteen forty four Cardinals, while actually was
spanning over three seasons in three hundred and twenty two games,

(01:52:19):
the nineteen forty four Cardinals own more. They actually won
one hundred and twenty five straight series without being swept. Now,
with the Orioles beating Arizona Saturday night, their consecutive regular
season series without being swept, as not to one hundred
and four. All right, but Baltimore, this is something that's

(01:52:43):
been going on now since the weekend of May fifteenth,
May thirteen to fifteen. It was in Detroit in twenty
twenty two, the last time the Baltimore Orioles were swept
in any series. We're talking three hundred and twenty two games,
seven hundred and twenty five days now. The Orioles lost
the opener against the Nationals Wednesday, but it was only

(01:53:04):
a two game series, so if the Oils had lost
Thursday to the Nationals, the streak would have been broken.
There were one loss away from the sweep, but that's
happened thirteen times where they had to win the final
game of a series and then not only done out,
they've done it with a forty two plus run differential.

(01:53:26):
And as I said, the Oils beat the Diamondbacks. They're
part of a three game series this weekend that concludes
later on the day Sunday. But they're off the hook.
They're already up to one hundred and four straight series.
The Oils have not been swept. You think that's so easy.
It ain't so easy. We're going back what fifty six,

(01:53:48):
fifty eight, eighty two years, eighty two years last time
this was done. Lots of teams have had the opportunity
to do it. No one's done it. All right, I'm
going to share something. These are the types of stories
you hate to report. Very what I consider to be
very very, very very sad news. You may or not

(01:54:11):
remember major league or former Major leaguer by the name
of Shawn Burroughs who played for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shawn
hailed from Long Beach, California, which is an absolute baseball
hotbed in southern California. Trust me, I know, I grew
up in Orange County. Shawn's father was Jeff Burrows. Jeff

(01:54:35):
Burrows was the America League MVP in nineteen seventy four.
And what I remember, frankly most about Shawn Burroughs more
than anything else, is I relocated to Michigan in August
of nineteen ninety three for an opportunity. I could not
pass it up. It spent seventeen years there, and I

(01:54:57):
remember watching the Little League World Series in nineteen ninety three,
and Long Beach had advanced to the Little League World
Series and they were led by a gentleman, a young
twelve year old by the name of Sean Burrows. He
was twelve years old at the time. He was, of

(01:55:18):
course a big husky kid, and he's a legend. He's
arguably the greatest Little League player of all time. I mean,
we just get his numbers. He not only hit like crazy,
but he pitched two games in the Little League World
Series a total of twelve innings, didn't allow single hit,
didn't allow single run, struck out thirty two guys in

(01:55:40):
walk three. That's not bad. He also hit like four
or five home runs and hit the cover off the
ball too. Obviously, with his father's lineage and hard work,
Sean Burrows went on to become the number nine overall
pick by the San Diego Patres in nineteen ninety eight.

(01:56:04):
Now I realized that Sean Burrows is probably maybe best
known for his heroics at the League World Series. He
helped Long Beach win the Little League title in consecutive years,
ninety two and ninety three. I saw the ninety three
Apparently they received the ninety two title after the Philippines
team that won it was disqualified due to age violations,
but I digress. Long Beach won the championship out right

(01:56:27):
in nineteen ninety three. Burroughs pitched consecutive no hitters in
the League World Series that year and was also Long
Beach's best hitter. I mentioned that I think he might
be the greatest Little League player of all time because,
according to a story that was in the Long Beach
Press Telegram, Sewn Burrows pitched three consecutive no hitters that

(01:56:50):
postseason and also managed to bat over seven hundred was
seventeen home runs. He didn't lose a game as a
pitcher seventy four rainnings, struck out one hundred and seventy
one batters. His EIRA was point four. By the way.
Shawn Burrows also went on to be part of the
two thousand US Olympic baseball team that won a gold

(01:57:12):
medal in Sydney in Australia. I believe Tommy Masorta I
might be right. I thought Tommy Misorta was the manager
of that team that won the won the gold medal
for the US Olympic team. Sean Burrows was the was
a member of that as well. Played seven seasons in
the major leagues between two thousand and two and twenty twelve,

(01:57:35):
four seasons with the San Diego Padres, but also had
a cup of coffee with the Tampa Bay Rays, and
as I mentioned, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Minnesota Twins. Her
career two to seventy eight hitter. That's not bad. Two
time Little League World Series champ, Olympic champion, seven year
Major leaguer. This is so sad, it really hurts. It
just hurts to even talk about this. He was coaching

(01:57:57):
his son during Little League he passed. I don't know
the cause of death. It may have been a heart attack.
I just don't know. Rust in peace, Sean Burrows and
the Burrows family. This is really, really sad. I will
always remember what a great prolific young player he was
and got to national recognition at a very young age

(01:58:20):
coming up the dance sensation sweeping the nation. What kind
of brand new fool of you? Followed by what my name?
Keep it locked right here. It's the Bernie Fraddick Show
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:58:30):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie fraddle
Show just keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie
Fraddworkemy Lyon from the tyrect dot com studios here in
Las Vegas. Tire act dot com will help you get there.
Non max selection, fast free shipping, free road after protection
at over ten thousand recommended installers tyrac dot com the
way tire buying should be. Well, we have come to

(01:58:57):
that time in the show. You know you love it.
You can't live without it. You see, we pay attention
here on the Bernie Frattle Show because across this great
land of our sceedy Oily Sea every day twenty four seven,
three sixty five will people do things. They do things
that grab your attention. Sometimes they are silly and innocuous

(01:59:18):
and crazy, and other times are a little bit more serious.
Other times are dangerous. Perhaps they might even be illegal
and even land you in jail. But any way you
slice it, any way you describe it, any way you
characterize it, these are always behaviors that leave you scratching
your head and asking yourself, what kind of brand new
fool of you? I don't know how to begin this one,

(01:59:40):
so I am just going to blurt it out because
I am not calling out a single person here, I
am calling out a whole group of people. It turns
out a certain city is handing out bottles of beer,
glasses of wine, shots of vivodka for free to homeless alcoholics,

(02:00:04):
and it's costing as city five million dollars a year
on the program. And interestingly enough, the alcoholic drinks are
served by nurses as part of the cities quote managed
Alcohol program, which I guess they've been running for a
couple of years, and it's designed to curb the amount
of alcohol that homeless people drink. So you curb the

(02:00:26):
amount of alcohol a boy giving them more alcohol for free. Okay,
I'm sure your attentions are good. I just don't get
it now. Nurses have assessed that the patients, well, they'll
typically serve about one to two drinks three or four
times a day. A couple of ounces of vodka liquor
about five ounces is bla ba ba ba bah, and
experts in the program say it's actually helped to keep

(02:00:47):
homeless alcoholics out of hospitals, out of jails, and even
from dying. What am I missing? Apparently before the program
was set up, drink alcohol to excess or among the
highest users of the emergency services. But this program's doubled
in size and it comes with a hell of a cost.

(02:01:09):
The city is pouring money to the tune of five
million dollars a year as nurses serve shots of vodka
and beer several times a day based on certain health plans.
I am mixed up. I am completely mixed up. It
seems very confusing to me, because cities face homelessness, they

(02:01:31):
face death from overdoses, and you know, I would say
that there's got to be a side argument that giving
free alcohol it makes the additions continue, the addictions continue worse,
and you're spending taxpayer dollars to manage people's addictions that
go on in perpetuity. I don't know if you can

(02:01:52):
solve the problem. And I would just say this that
that you know, you have to ask yourself if you're
going to spend millions of dollars of tax paper money
to give free alcohol to hold bless people that are
already struggling with alcoholism, and all of a bit they
gotta do is just walk in, grab a drink, and

(02:02:12):
then another one. You can do it all day as
much as you want. From what I understand, could be wrong,
correct me, and so you know, I guess they manage it.
Free booze, right, do you get a breath wiser to
see if you've been drinking on your own? I listen,
let me just say this. If you're gonna give free
booze to alcoholics who are already homeless, and the problems

(02:02:35):
we have in this country, and you're spending millions of
dollars of taxpayer money the city of San Francisco, what
kind of brand new fool you? With all due respect,
maybe I'm missing something. Maybe you can correct me. Maybe
I don't get it. Maybe it's helping. It just doesn't
make sense to me. Told you this was gonna be

(02:02:55):
a weird one, all right, my man Ian, try to
follow that.

Speaker 10 (02:03:00):
Okay, let's see so for me, my fool that I'm
bringing to the table today, our story starts in New Hampshire, Manchester,
New Hampshire. Actually, and today's fool his name is Aiden Stutter.
He's eighteen years old. Bernie, I think that might be
our youngest fool to date. Oh boy, correct me if
I'm wrong there, But I think that's I think that's

(02:03:21):
the case.

Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
I'm not sure, so go ahead.

Speaker 10 (02:03:24):
Studter was hanging out at the local dairy field park
in Manchester, New Hampshire, and he got into an argument
with a mother outside of a porta potty of all places.
Now it's unclear what they were arguing about, but it's
been reported after the fact that they did not know
each other beforehand, so it's not like this was his
mom or something. This was just some random mother who

(02:03:45):
was with her four year old daughter, and at the time,
the four year old daughter was in the porta potty,
you know, doing her thing, and the mom eventually cut
the argument short with Stud and went into the porta
potty to help her daughter. Now, Stud, the eighteen year old,
he wasn't quite ready to put things to rest yet,
so he went around the back of the porta potty

(02:04:06):
and pushed it over, so the porta potty landed with
the door face down, trapping the mother and daughter inside
and covering them with you know, the contents of the
porta potty. Luckily, they weren't trapped for too long, as
some onlookers came to their aid, helping them out of
the box. But studor reportedly ended his little tantrum by

(02:04:27):
throwing a random object at police officers that were arriving
at the scene. So he was obviously arrested and now
faces some charges. So Aid and Stuoter, you're only eighteen, man,
what kind of brand new fool?

Speaker 2 (02:04:39):
Are you? Decidedly down trotted, downtrodden? What kind of brand
new fools you tonight? You know, sometimes you're humorous. We
get a kick out of some of the things people do,
you know, breaking into a taco bell where they're not
always funny if you get my drift. But tonight you
know a little different turn. I guess I have to

(02:05:00):
ratcheted back up in future weeks so we can go
back to having fun. Well that will conclude the rousing
edition of what kind of brand new Fool You, which
now opens the door and allows us to dive into
our second favorite bit, something we love to be referred
to as what my name? All Right? Well, football is

(02:05:23):
just around the corner, so why not start with that
as teams are in camp. I am a former Chicago
Bears quarterback and I actually hail from a place called
Santa Claus, Indiana. Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 11 (02:05:41):
Vince Evans.

Speaker 2 (02:05:42):
Oh, that is such a good name. Not Vince Evans.
Vince is from southern California. Of course you may recall
back in the day. I know Steve Hartman will remember
this that he would'd get the get he was selling
BMW's to get him off a BMW dealership, and he'd
come out and start for the Raiders the following week.
I am a former Chicago Bears quarterback and I hail

(02:06:04):
from a place called Santa Claus, Indiana. Ian. Roddy, what'
my name?

Speaker 10 (02:06:09):
I'm just gonna guess Jay Cutler.

Speaker 2 (02:06:12):
It is absolutely Jay Cutler. Nicely done. I'll never forget.
When I was covering the Lions draft in two thousand
and six, people talked about him out of Auburn, and
I didn't want him. I know he had a cannon arm,
but he didn't win games in college. And I said, well,
name the guy who struggled to win in college, but
he's gonna storm him take the league by storm in
the NFL. Okay, but I remember some Santa Claus, Indiana. Okay,

(02:06:36):
Well it was bandied about that maybe Lebron should be
the next coach at Lakers, and we know you can't.
He can't because of the CBA and the salary cap.
It's no longer allowed. It's been a rule for thirty years.
I am the last player coach in the NBA, Mark Ramsey,
what my name?

Speaker 11 (02:06:53):
Magic Johnson?

Speaker 2 (02:06:55):
Not Magic Johnson, although Magic did coach in the nineties.
Who wasn't a player coach though? All right, yes, it's
true Lebron cannot be a head coach while he's a
player in the National Basketball Association. That rule has been
changed many years ago. But along those lines, I was
the last player coach in the NBA, Ian Roddy, what
my name?

Speaker 10 (02:07:16):
I'm so mad because I know that you said it
earlier in the show, and I can't remember what it was.
I feel like it starts with a D. I'm gonna
guess Bill Russell because I know he was earlier.

Speaker 2 (02:07:25):
But you've got this, You've got the right team. It's
the Boston Celtics. It's the actually a guy by the
name of Dave Collins, big stud power forward.

Speaker 7 (02:07:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:07:32):
I mentioned it with Rob Ramsey. Good goodlet's good, hear though,
because I'll do that about once a week, I'll mention
the name earlier in the show to see if guys
pick up on it. By the way, I'm assuming is
Dan is a very busy man, and I know he's
got a very busy Sunday. Has Dan departed? He he's
played this game with us before. He's really good? D okay, good,
he's got a busy Sunday, So all good next time?

(02:07:56):
All right? You know, it's not uncommon for players to
get a check did managers to get ejected in Major
League baseball? But I am the only one. I have
been ejected more times than any other player or manager
in Major League baseball history. Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 11 (02:08:13):
Earl Weaver?

Speaker 7 (02:08:15):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:08:15):
That is such a good one. Not Earl Weaver, but
remember with the stuff he used to do, he was
down right vile. I own the most ejections in Major
League baseball history. Ian Roddy, what my name?

Speaker 10 (02:08:30):
My baseball knowledge is not up up to standard. Here,
random baseball name I'm going to throw out will be
Derek Jeter. Wow, I'm ashamed to even guess that.

Speaker 2 (02:08:44):
Well, you just had to blurt out a name, that's
all you wanted to blurt it out. I'll get the
guys manager. He was a manager of the Atlanta Braves.
Anybody that want to blurt it out?

Speaker 10 (02:08:55):
Bobby Cox. Bobby Cox, Yeah, I wouldn't have got that,
all right.

Speaker 2 (02:09:02):
I actually have played the most games in Major League
Baseball history, twenty six to be exact, without ever receiving
a single ejection. Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 11 (02:09:18):
I think he played for the Baltimore Orioles. I think
it was a shortstop.

Speaker 2 (02:09:23):
You're thinking of Kyle Ripklins, not Cal Ripkin. I'm sure
he was tossed at least once. I have the distinction
of playing the most Major League Baseball games in history
without ever being ejected, three thousand and twenty six, Ian Roddy.
What my name?

Speaker 10 (02:09:41):
Could it be? Willie Mays?

Speaker 2 (02:09:43):
Not Willie Mays. It's actually a guy by the name
is Stan Musial. Stan Musial. All right, let's go to
the NHL. There are fights in the NHL in the
history of the NHL. I have had more fights than
anybody in history, a total of three hundred and thirty three.

(02:10:04):
Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 11 (02:10:06):
I'll just throwing out somebody named Lemieux.

Speaker 2 (02:10:11):
Well, there was Claude Lemieux. There was Mario Lemue take
your pick, all right, Yeah, it's actually not him, Okay.
In the history of the National Hockey League, I've had
more fights than anybody in history, total three hundred and
thirty three. Uh, Ian Roddy, what my name?

Speaker 10 (02:10:30):
I don't know. I'm gonna go with my guy, Jacob
Truba on the Rangers Instigator.

Speaker 2 (02:10:34):
Fair enough, not Jacob Trueba God by the name of
ty Domy remember ty DOMI all right?

Speaker 6 (02:10:41):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:10:42):
To this day, I still hold the all time NBA
record for most points in a single playoff game with
sixty three. Mark Ramsey, what my name.

Speaker 11 (02:10:52):
In a playoff game? In a playoff game, I'll pick
the Admiral from San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (02:10:59):
Oh, you're thinking of David Robinson. Not David Robinson. You're
gonna kick yourself, Mark when I give you the name.
I scored sixty three points in an NBA playoff game.
That's still the most in the history of the NBA
for a single playoff game. Ian Roddy, what my name?

Speaker 10 (02:11:15):
I feel like it happened relatively recently. I'm just gonna
guess Lebron not Lebron.

Speaker 2 (02:11:22):
Guy by the name of Michael Jordan. Michael Jeffrey Jeordan,
So not that recently, right, all right? I just turned
ninety three years old this past week and Leodo Rocher,
legendary manager Leoda Roacher called me the greatest centerfielder of
all time. Mark Ramsey, What my name?

Speaker 13 (02:11:41):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (02:11:42):
All I know is Billy Williams played right field, So
that's wrong, hey.

Speaker 2 (02:11:46):
Former cub, good name, some good names, Not Billy Williams.
I just turned ninety three years young this past week
and Leodo Rocher, the legendary manager called me the greatest
center fielder of all time, Ian Roddy.

Speaker 10 (02:11:58):
What my name Deki Matsui.

Speaker 2 (02:12:05):
He's a roofing on me. Now it's actually a guy
with the name of William Ays.

Speaker 10 (02:12:09):
I guess my earlier guess there you go? Of course,
all right?

Speaker 2 (02:12:14):
Two more, well, I have lost as a head coach
in the NBA. I have lost five NBA playoff games, outright,
even though my team was a double digit favorite. That's
more than any other coach. Five NBA playoff games, outright,
even though my team was a double digit favorite. Mark Ramsey,

(02:12:34):
what my name?

Speaker 10 (02:12:35):
Eric Spolstra oooh not Eric Spolstra.

Speaker 2 (02:12:39):
Not Eric Spolstra. Heat culture in the history of the NBA.
I've lost more playoff games as a double digit favorite
five than any other coach Ian Roddy what my name?

Speaker 10 (02:12:53):
This would be a weird record for him to hold.
But Greg Popovic not Greg Popovitch.

Speaker 2 (02:12:57):
It just happened again last last week. Joe Mizzula Joe
Bazula of the Boston Celtics. All right, you guys are
gonna get this one. I recently made my Major League
Baseball pitching debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and I hit
one hundred miles per hour on the radar gun seventeen times.
Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 11 (02:13:20):
I'm just gonna go with a third on a name.
Joe peppatone.

Speaker 2 (02:13:23):
Joe Peppaton. Now that that's a beauty. Tell Mark, tell
people all about Joe Peppaton.

Speaker 11 (02:13:29):
Come on, man, I got you as a Cub player,
and that's all I know.

Speaker 2 (02:13:32):
Yanke, Yankee Stu. So yeah, it's all it's all good.
It's it's all good.

Speaker 7 (02:13:40):
I love it all right.

Speaker 2 (02:13:44):
I recently made my Major League Baseball pitching debut for
the Pittsburgh Pirates, and I hit one hundred miles per
hour on the radar gun seventeen times. I Interati.

Speaker 10 (02:13:56):
What my name is that that Paul Skeens kid, Paul
all Schemes?

Speaker 2 (02:14:00):
Did it today? My man? Good job? Or did it Saturday?
The star pitcher on LSU that led the LSU Tigers
to the World Series last year College World Series over
wake Forest. Hell of a game. My good buddy Larry Sorenson,
who's been on the show many times, ten year major leader,
is part of the broadcast team for wake Forest. They
got another good team this year. By the way, folks,

(02:14:23):
Shortly after the show tonight, podcasts be going up. If
you missed any of today's show, be sure to check
out the podcast. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcasts. Be sure to follow rate review the podcast. Again,
just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast.
You'll see the show posted right after we get off
the air. My man Ian Roddy will be taking care

(02:14:43):
of that. Coming up. You will not believe what the
Ohio State Athletic Director said about the Michigan Wolverines and
their previous season and what should happen to all the
wins they accumulate. You want to hear this. I'm Bernie
FRADDLEI Comedy Live from the Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio

(02:15:05):
Diirect dot Com studios. Keep it locked. It's the Bernie
Friddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back on
The Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio Comedy live from
the tire Act dot Com studios here in Las Vegas.
Coming up after Dan's update Chris Purfett's World of Soccer.

(02:15:25):
But first, I couldn't believe this when I saw this,
but I guess, well, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Ohio
State athletic director Gene Smith is retiring this July, but
I gotta tell you it's going out with a bang
because he pulled no punches when he was on a
radio show in Ohio and an NPR affiliate, and he

(02:15:48):
was asked on this radio show. I believe the show
was called All Sides with Anna Staver. He was asked
if he thought Ohio State's athletic director thought that Michigan
should have an asterisk over all of their football victories,

(02:16:10):
that maybe it was just the football victories against Ohio
State because of the Wolverines sign stealing scandal. His response,
of course I do, and he started to expound on
a view of the scandal, which I think people tried
to really hang that over Michigan's twenty twenty three campaign,
but I'm not sure if it's sticking. I don't think

(02:16:32):
it is. But mister Smith went on to say, quote,
the rules are in place to protect the integrity of
the game and try your best to create a level
playing field. When those rules are violated, then it affects
those principles. We have to keep that in perspective. So
I guess as I understand this a little bit more clearly,

(02:16:52):
what he's referring to, what Jim is referring to is
that the victories that Michigan has obtained over Ohio State
in recent years should come with an asterisk because of
the science steely skin, and the Michigan does have a
three game winning streak over Ohio State. They beat the
Buckeyes thirty to twenty four and an Arbor just this
past year, the year before forty five twenty three in Columbus,

(02:17:16):
and then they got off the schneid in twenty twenty
one when they beat Ohio State forty seven to forty
two and an Arbor that snapped an eight game streak
that Ohio State had owned over Michigan. And let's not
forget Jim Harbaugh lost to Ohio State in twenty fifteen,
twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, and I

(02:17:42):
still think you could argue, and people might want to
want to hear this that Michigan ducked Ohio State in
twenty twenty. You might not want to hear that. But
they didn't play the game, did they? So what does
it matter? The bottom line is it seems like ancient
history now, this big elaborate sign stealing scheme that was
allegedly perpetrated by the infamous Connor Stallions. They got a

(02:18:04):
three game suspension for Jim Harbaugh to close the regular season,
but it has stopped the Wolverines. They kept right on rolling.
And when they make you know, when they write the
history books, they'll show Michigan is national champions and Aryan
Morris taken over now for Jim Harball. Michigan put thirteen
players in the NFL Draft and Harballs onto the Chargers

(02:18:26):
now and heading into this coming season, the Wolverines are
ranked twelve overall. I think Ohio State, by some poles
might even be ranked number two or number one. So
it'll be a good game regardless Michigan, Ohio State. It
just always is the greatest rivalry of sports in my
humble opinion, because it started with a land war one
hundred years over hundred years ago. All right, coming up

(02:18:49):
Chris Profet's World of Soccer. But first, first we go
back to our guy Dan Byer with the latest. Thanks Bernie.

Speaker 9 (02:18:54):
The Celtics righted their wrongs against the Cavaliers on Saturday
night in Cleveland, winning one O six to nine ninety three.
Jason Tatum did a bit of everything thirty three points,
thirteen rebounds and six assists in the wint.

Speaker 14 (02:19:05):
This time of the season, you know, as long as
we win and we're trending in the right direction, I
know me scoring will come. I've done that plenty yet,
plenty of times, so you know, I just try to
impact the game other ways and just dominate, you know,
dominate the game and not be defined as just the score.

Speaker 9 (02:19:24):
Celtics up to to one in the series. Mavericks are
up to one now on the thunder, winning one oh
five to one oh one. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving
each had twenty two, but it was PJ. Washington who
led Dallas and scoring with twenty seven. Nick and Pacers
will play at three thirty Eastern time today after the
NBA Draft lottery, while tonight it's the Nuggets and Timberwolves
in their Game four in Minneapolis. That's at eight o'clock

(02:19:45):
Eastern time. Stanley Cup playoffs saw the Stars top the
Avalanche for one. Dallas up two one on that series.
Now Rangers up three to one on the Hurricanes couldn't
put them away as Carolina avoids this s weep, winning
four to three. Dodgers beat the Padres five to nothing
taoscar Hernandez a Grand Slam, but sho Heel Tani did
have to leave the game of the ninth inning because
of back discomfort. He's not likely to play in the

(02:20:07):
series finale later on today. He's were all over the
Mariners eight to one, Angels took care of the Royals
nine to three, and the Rockies have won three straight.

Speaker 2 (02:20:14):
They best in Texas eight to three.

Speaker 9 (02:20:16):
Sanders Shoffley will have the lead entering Sunday's final rondo,
the Wells Fargo Championship. He's one shot better than Rory McElroy.
NASCAR Cup Series racing is on FS one coming up
Sunday afternoon from Darlington, the Chargers signed veteran pass rusher
Bud Dupree to a two year deal.

Speaker 2 (02:20:33):
Bernie, back to you, Thanks so much, Dan. The dulcet
tones of Dan A. Bayer, the busiest man on the network.
I got to tell you it does a great job,
all right. You know, soccer is a sport that it
doesn't have to be on the field to create news,
doesn't have to be in season to create news. There's

(02:20:56):
always something. That's why we bring you this week every time.
Chris purhfetz soccer.

Speaker 15 (02:21:02):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drum.

Speaker 13 (02:21:15):
I am.

Speaker 14 (02:21:17):
Fun.

Speaker 5 (02:21:17):
It's all here in this report from the world of soccer.

Speaker 7 (02:21:21):
So Bernie.

Speaker 8 (02:21:22):
As we all know, the Phoenix Suns have fired their
head coach, Frank Vogel. Yes, this is a world of soccer.
But let me recount a story for you, because I
was asked by someone in the Fox Sports Radio Studios
building about the idea that of how fast Frank Vogel
got fired, how fast managers are now getting fired in
the NBA. The question was posed to me knowing that

(02:21:43):
I knew a lot about European soccer and there was
kind of this idea that a lot of European soccer
clubs do tend to run through their managers and.

Speaker 5 (02:21:51):
Coaches rather quickly.

Speaker 8 (02:21:55):
It is the symptom of a sport much like soccer,
where the organizations may a lot of personnel decisions that
carry a lot of heavy monetary value, and when those
fail to reform, the easiest person to fire at the
end of the day is the coach. Is the manager.
It's usually the easiest fall guy. And even in Europe,

(02:22:16):
the bar for getting fired can only be a rank
few number of games where you're just off your game,
the team looks listless, and before you know it, you're
halfway into the season and the manager is getting sacked.
Even the great ones like Jose Mourinho and Carlos and
Silatti recognize that some of the best managers in the

(02:22:37):
game right now have close to ten different I think
it's like nine for Jose Mourinho jobs on their resume,
because they just keep getting fired. Even the successful ones,
they're lucky if they last three or four years. And
if you want to see the idea of just getting
fired within a single calendar year, look at the club
Chelsea in England and how many managers they and through,

(02:23:01):
especially under their former owner Roman Abramovich, who is very famous,
to just fire managers at the drop of the hat.
It's easy to do, It's an easy scapegoat, and the
bar for the next guy in isn't very high. All
you got to do is belt out like a three game,
three match win streaker, so people will suddenly start to

(02:23:22):
love you until that next offseason rolls around, and until
that next season hits, and suddenly the.

Speaker 5 (02:23:28):
Bar is reset and you could be out the door
very quick yourself.

Speaker 8 (02:23:33):
To be honest, I don't know how healthy it is
if a manager or a coach can never settle in
in a given spot. How healthy it is that any
given playoff series or European tournament or five game match
stretch suddenly can determine the fate of your organization. There
is something to be said about stability, and if that
stability is being deprived, then I don't know what we

(02:23:56):
really do. And I worry for the NBA as much
as I worry for soccer. Sometimes in that regard, we
do have a set final for the UEFA Champions League
and some big news from a player. First off, though,
congratulations to Bayer Laferkusen. They've already sewn up the Bundesliga title.
They now have a forty nine match unbeaten streak, drawing

(02:24:18):
two to two with Roma and securing their place four
to two on aggregate could go to the Europa League
finals in Yuwefa, which is the second tier. So I
want to shout out them. Leverkusen is having a season
for the ages in Germany. But yes, this past week
we had the finals punched, and let's start with football royalty.

(02:24:39):
Let's start with Real Madrid. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich
both came into this game drawn even on aggregate.

Speaker 5 (02:24:46):
This was the winner take all game and with an e.

Speaker 8 (02:24:49):
With a goal shortly after halftime by Alfonso Davies I
believe in the sixty eighth minuters, so it looked like
Munich was going to be coasting even steven On here
a chance to play for Champions League crown even if
their Bundesliga crown is denied. But instead, somehow an explosion
from Real Madrid as joselu came out and scored two

(02:25:13):
goals late in this game, firstly eighty eighth minute to
draw even and then in stoppage time in about the
ninety first minute, another strike, sending the Germans home and
propelling Real Madrid to yet another Champions League final. These
are the only things you kind of expect with Real Madrid,
and to be honest, it is a choke job for
the ages for Bayern Munich and their newly acquired Harry Kane,

(02:25:36):
who just some really ticki tak defense really being played
there to chance to have the bus part home and
they just let it go, just let it go. You
hate to see it. But while Bayern Munich disappointed for Germany,
Borussia Dortmund joined their fellows at Leverkusen in bringing home
some German glory. Now Borussia had a one goal aggregate

(02:26:00):
head on Paris Saint Germain, but this game was going
to be played in Paris. This seemed like a last
gasp for a club that has been trying for so
long to go for European glory, and it just was
not to be. Paris Saint Germaine looked listless out there.
They didn't look like they knew what they were doing.
A single goal by Matshomels for the Germans made sure

(02:26:22):
on aggregate to nil Barussia Dortmund advancing to play Real
Madrid here. And if you think you had a long
wait between the week off between the Championship weekend and
the Super Bowl, we have to now wait until June
first at Wembley Stadium, where Real Madrid and Barussia Dortmund
will square off. However, it is a is a feast

(02:26:46):
for the eyes. We'll be talking about this in the
months to come. Barussia is a fascinating, fascinating squad. But
the big news this week came out of Paris Saint Germaine.
Out of the losing locker room, as Killian and Boppe
to rest what we finally knew was going to happen,
he send out a video addressing the Parisian faithful. He

(02:27:06):
said that this would be his last year at Paris
Saint Germain. He said quote, I will not extend and
the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks.
I will play my last game at Park de Princes
on Sunday. This coming Sunday, your last chance to watch
killing Uimbape wearing the blue of Powders Saint Germain, saying
that he had a great honor to be part of

(02:27:27):
the biggest French club France is his country, of course,
and a move. However, expected killing Embape to be a
free transfer over to Real Madrid, a club he has
been wanting to play for his entire life. However, it's
clear that this club and the city of Paris remains
deep in his heart.

Speaker 5 (02:27:45):
So that's it.

Speaker 8 (02:27:46):
You'll get one more game out of killing Embape playing
for PSG here on Sunday, and then what comes next
the adventure of a lifetime, and it'll be something fun
to keep us busy here on the world of soccer
as we spent where the big Man, the next great
could truly end up.

Speaker 2 (02:28:05):
Isn't that something? Kill him Vape? If you saw him
in the World Cup Final? I don't know if I've
ever seen a more physically gifted soccer player on his
way to a new team, just like American football. Right,
and that name, there's that name again? Whose Amarinho? And
if you don't know whose Amarinho is, he is soccer's
version of Bill Belichick. Yep, look it up. You'll see

(02:28:28):
what I mean. Comeing up, we wrap up the show,
The Bernie Fratle Show, and we bring in a special
guest from the Emerald City. We'll talk about the Knicks.
We'll talk about the Brady roast. Who does you want
to see roasted next? And I don't know, could you
just drop thirty NBA players into it NFL game? Sure?
Why not? This guy will know he is a legend.

(02:28:50):
I'm Bernie friderwer comany Live from the Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio Tireck dot Com studios. Keep it locked. You're
listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Ill rebacka on the Bernie Show. Were wrapping it up
on the Bernie Frattle Show. We've been coming to you
live the Tirek dot Com studios here Fox Sports Radio
in Las Vegas since eleven pm Pacific time on Saturday night.

(02:29:15):
Which is why I would like to think before I
go any further, I want to thank my broadcast team
and they have been with me since eleven pm Pacific
on Saturday night. And of course that's a Mark Ramsey.
I'm a technical producer and ian Roddy turning all the
dials keeping us glue together. Want to thank Dan and

(02:29:36):
Chris for their updates. All right, let's go to our
special guests. You love this guy, you know me, love me?
Can't little out him? He can Field, he can pitch,
he can throw. Great power to all field. Say hello
to the legend, Andy Furman. Andy, how are you, buddy?

Speaker 13 (02:29:50):
I don't know if I'm a legend, and I don't
know if I'm such a big guy as you say,
but you and my idol. I waited all week for this,
Bernie Fratto, I waited all week for this. Thank you
so very much, Thank you for having me.

Speaker 2 (02:30:01):
I've been looking forward to this, Andy, because we got
a lot of meat on the bone. And yeah, you
do a great show. But it's been a full week
of news cycles since you're on last, and I want
to start with your nick. Your Nicks. You're tipping off
in a few hours here. They're losing bodies right and left.
Talk to me, Andy, Can they get it done in
Indiana Sunday?

Speaker 13 (02:30:20):
You know, not only can they, they will? And you
know what, this may be the biggest surprise in the
NBA this year. Jalen Brunson has become a superstar right
now in this series.

Speaker 2 (02:30:28):
It really is.

Speaker 5 (02:30:29):
He's the hero of New York.

Speaker 13 (02:30:30):
And you know what, I got to believe that other
teams right now are going crazy because I think he
was overlooked. This guy won two NCAA titles at Villanova,
and now he's teamed up with his Villanova mates. He
really is in New York City. And I tell you what,
I'm really happy that coach Tibbs is getting the credit.
Or maybe he's not, but in my mind he is.
He's getting the credit he so desperately deserves. He's a

(02:30:51):
hell of a coach. A lot of players didn't want
to play for this guy. He's done a whale of
a job. Remember what was it back in twenty nineteen,
they had to worst record in the NBA, the Knicks, right,
and then now they're back in contention.

Speaker 5 (02:31:04):
They could go to the finals.

Speaker 2 (02:31:07):
I'm with you and hopefully they get og on Anobi
soon and they don't break down because I love this
team culture. And you're right on about Tibbs. Remember back
in our wait it was his defensive scheme that enabled
the Boston Celtics to win that championship. It was Tom Thibodeau.
So I'm with you. If they can give an effort,
if they don't fall apart, they're better than Indiana. It's

(02:31:29):
just a shame they're not healthy, all right, one of
the big names.

Speaker 13 (02:31:32):
And the hell would Rick Carlisle with his whining and
crime ass. So you know, play the game and just forget.
People don't want to hear that, you know what. I'm
sure the team, his team is embarrassed for him. I'm
sure that they're embarrassed.

Speaker 2 (02:31:46):
Filing a complaint? What seventy eight miscalls?

Speaker 12 (02:31:48):
Andy?

Speaker 2 (02:31:49):
They count up? What seventy eight? Agreed? You saw that
report earlier? Yeah, what died he do?

Speaker 5 (02:31:53):
He called the league office? I mean, come on, really,
let it go.

Speaker 2 (02:31:57):
Well, I was in Detroit when he was unceremonious fire
by Bill Davidson for reasons I won't go into on
the air. And of course he was presiding. He was
on the sideline during the Malice of the Palace November nineteen,
two thousand and four, were coming up on the twenty
year anniversary. I was there that night, my friend. We
were doing a radio remote. But I want to get
to the other news that Tom Brady roast was quite

(02:32:18):
the incident or quite the event. Excuse me, most people
loved it, not everybody did. You should read what Sally
Jenkins wrote about in the Washington Post in New York Post, Andy,
what were your thoughts on him? Who would you like
to see roasted.

Speaker 13 (02:32:33):
Next you you I did the Bernie Fotto roast. I
tell you, I will tell you this much. I watched
it because of all the hubbub, all the buzz surrounding
that roast. I watched it, to be honest with you,
the furthest thing you'd call a prude. I am not approved.
But I don't find dropping the F bomb every other
word funny. I don't find that funny. I really don't.

(02:32:55):
I remember back in the day when Dean Martin had
those ROAs on TV. I found them entertaining. I found
them funny, you know, and I just Kevin Hart brings
this this woman in there from Boston. All she wanted
to talk about was genitals and everything below the waist.
I don't get it. I mean, and people probably paid
big money for this. You know who I was embarrassed for.

(02:33:15):
Not only Tom Brady. I was embarrassed his parents were there.
I was embarrassed to hear that.

Speaker 2 (02:33:21):
Oh yeah, no doubt, Yeah, I think you're talking about
Nicky Glazier. Uh. Friday night, in my show, I do
a thing called The Midnight Hour. We had all kinds
of suggestions. Let me run some of these value how
would you like to see Jerry Jones? Jerry Jones roasted?
How about Dan Sanders? Yeah, I'll be good. I wouldn't

(02:33:41):
mind that, but you don't No, no, no, Lebron James, yeah, yes, yes,
I would never do it. He would never do it.
Years Tiger Woods, Oh ahead, then you're talkers?

Speaker 13 (02:33:55):
Perhaps yeah, perhaps, Okay, Lance Armstrong, No, no, he doesn't
deserve it.

Speaker 2 (02:34:00):
How about Russell Wilson No, no, no, Michael Jordan.

Speaker 5 (02:34:06):
Yes, yes, Michael Jordan.

Speaker 2 (02:34:08):
Yes, here's what These are two names that came up
a lot. Aaron Rodgers. There's a lot of meat on
the bone there.

Speaker 5 (02:34:13):
Yes, yes, Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (02:34:15):
Yes, he would get his come up.

Speaker 5 (02:34:16):
And you know, but he Bernie. Let me just say this.

Speaker 13 (02:34:19):
I don't think the person being roasted is the most
important part. I think it's the roast d's that are important.
I mean, I wasn't impressed whatsoever about the band of roasters.

Speaker 5 (02:34:29):
I mean I saw was it. The former receiver on
the Patriots was.

Speaker 2 (02:34:33):
One of this brand.

Speaker 13 (02:34:34):
He was terrible, terrible. I mean, first of all, he
was bitter, he was upset that he didn't get a ring.
I don't want to hear that. It was all about him.
I mean, come on, I mean, give me a slew
of guys that are somewhat entertaining and have something to say.
Randy Morris to me, I had nothing whatsoever to say,
and he came away just being a bitter man.

Speaker 2 (02:34:55):
He really did. Yeah, that was fair point. And you're
absolutely right. The roast is only going to be as
good as those who are coming up with the material
that hit home. But the reason I think a guy
like Aaron Rodgers there's so much meat on the bone.
You're gonna get to see these people squirm because once
they know where the dead bodies are buried, and once
they know where they you know your sweet spot is

(02:35:17):
you open that wound. I would like to see Bill Belichick.
I would really love to see Bill Belichick roasted. Okay,
and it doesn't have to be dirty or vulgar vile,
but come on, man, take us behind the curtain. I
know what a good sense of humor he has. I
know you've been around him, all right. The other thing
I want to talk about, Andy, this set me off
this week. I'm not kidding. Yeah, yeah, who in the
hell in the right mind think you could just dump

(02:35:38):
thirty NBA players into an NFL game. Hello, high speed collisions. Hello,
the NFL is a contact sport. Check out. The NBA
is a contact sport. The NFL is a high speed
collision sport. It's a game of attrition. Get to get
out of here with that?

Speaker 13 (02:35:52):
Yeah, that was Worston Rivers. I mean, I don't understand
why people have to go above and beyond? You know,
is stay in your lane? Staying I love basketball, I
love football, you know, and never the twains shall meet?

Speaker 5 (02:36:03):
Right, I mean, I mean, here's I I'll be done right.
Here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (02:36:08):
I mean.

Speaker 13 (02:36:08):
If you're a great history professor in college, does that
mean you're going to be a great music professor, a
philosophy professor.

Speaker 5 (02:36:15):
No, stay in your lane.

Speaker 13 (02:36:16):
You're good at what you do. I could do certain things,
but I cannot do many things. Even my kids, you know,
they are better athletes that I've ever been. One of
my sons played three sports and played for college football.
You know, to me, I can't right, stay in your late.
So why are you even making the comparison? And all
of a sudden people pick it up and run with it.

Speaker 5 (02:36:33):
I don't get it. They do, that's what they do
with these lists. It's crazy. It draws me nuts.

Speaker 2 (02:36:38):
Andy, not a dot my mind. You have a great
show tonight, you and Bucky. I'll be listening.

Speaker 12 (02:36:43):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:36:43):
Keep it real, my friend. Always a pleasure. God bless
you have a great week.

Speaker 5 (02:36:46):
Burn Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:36:47):
That is the great Andy Furman. It's gonna do it
for the Bernie Frattle Show, folks. I will be back
around these Fox Sports Radio airwaves tonight eleven pm Pacific,
a Sunday night, hosting the Ben Malor Show again. We
have a lot of good stuff for you, wings that
to die for, grocery store etiquette, vodka to the homeless.

(02:37:08):
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show.
Up next, Andy Furman, Fox Sports Radio.
