Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. Well that's right,
you heard the man. It is that time of week.
My name is Bernie Fridle. We are comedy live from

Now again, if I had a nickel for every time
I heard this Saturday night that the last time the
Washington Redskins commanders, whatever the hell you want to call them,

(00:44):
we're in the NFC Championship game was thirty two years ago.
Well technically it was thirty three. It was January seventeenth,
nineteen ninety two. Trust me, I know because coincidentally and
or ironically, however you want a character, they played the
Detroit Lions and they beat them forty one to ten,

(01:05):
and they proceeded to go to Super Bowl twenty six
and beat the Buffalo Bills. So do with that what
you will. But I got to tell you Bill Belichick
might have it right. In the NFL more games are
lost than one. In one of the craziest, most intense,

(01:31):
wild crazy guy playoff games I've seen in a while,
Jane Daniels and nine and a half point underdog number
six seed Washington Commanders strolling to Detroit and they pulled
off a stunning upset. Nobody had them winning. You can
say you did fine. Go play some blackjack tonight, so

(01:52):
the dealer shows you a seventeen. Take a hit. Maybe
you hit a four and you can brag about that too.
Not only one. They put up forty five points. Wash
can beat Detroit forty five and thirty one. That doesn't
even begin to tell the story. Jade Daniels proving that quarterback,
who's the position you play with your eyes? Take notes
Justin Fields, please, that's why you're fourteen and thirty as

(02:14):
a starter. And I'm always bashing him. By the way,
I like Justin Fields. I think he's a stellar individual.
And I mean that I don't want to play a
quarterback for my team though. Quarterbacks a position you play
with your eyes. You receive the ball, you make mental snapshots,
oh what's taking place, and then you execute. And that's
exactly what Jaden Daniels does. And that's why, no matter

(02:36):
how many times Detroit blitzed tonight, and they were committed
to the blitz, he was twenty two to thirty one
for two ninety nine two touchdowns, didn't take a single sack,
didn't throw a pick. His counterpart, Jared Goff, you saw
what happened. They were turnover machines. I will not batch
Jared Goff. Knock yourself out. Rams fans. You're all happy

(02:58):
he left down. Good for you. I'm glad Stafford left
town in Detroit, so there. But I'll tell you this,
in addition to me not bashing Jared Goff, you have
to ask yourself that Detroit Lions defense. And I'm gonna
get to that in a minute that I've been worried
about since since Thanksgiving. Come on, man, they couldn't get

(03:20):
Washington off the field. Hell, I remember one of our
high school football coaches used to say, hey, make them punt,
make them punt. Washington controlled time of possession. They put
up a ton of yards. Okay, you get it all right.
By the way, Washington's run game terrific, terrific. They ran

(03:40):
the ball forty two times for one hundred and eighty
two yards, three touchdowns, four to four in the red zone.
Brian Robinson had a day, Jeedmy mac nichols, who's didn't
used to be on Family Tigers. Who are these people?
Washington held the ball for thirty three minutes and fifty
nine seconds. That kept the team away from the team
that finished second in time of pos So the Lions defense.

(04:02):
Your shorts aren't clean either, and at the end of
the day, having covered this team for ten years, still
plugged in there. It hurts, it stings. I feel terrible
for the city of Detroit. Is a bart Giamatti once said,
the games are designed to break your heart, and they are.
But even before you know, I'll tell you what, I'll

(04:23):
tell you what. I'm not done. I just talked about
the Washington offense and how explosive they were, and how
fishing they were and how surgical they were. That was
overshadowed by their defense. They had a sort of a
bend but don't break, you know, game plan. They gave
him five hundred and twenty one yards and thirty one points,

(04:43):
but they did force five turnovers and turn one of
them into a touchdown. The other two were turned into
field goals. Mike sand was still out of Michigan, who
started this college career as a wide receiver and switched. This.
Dude's a baller, man, he is a baller. He had
two picks, one on Jared Goff. And you know, I
like Ben Johnson and I don't mind gadget plays. And
you can't argue with the team who went fifteen to two.

(05:04):
Four different quarter four different Lions players through passes. Jamison
Williams rolls right, rolls right, rolls right, throws across his body,
an incredibly ill advised pass. What were you thinking? So
I said, you play the position with your eyes. Well,
he's not a quarterback. That was a trick play. All
that did was ice the game. Kwan Martin had the

(05:25):
biggest play with the pick six. Dorin Armstrong had a
strip sack of golf in the red zone early that
really started to get the game weird. And then Jeremy
Chin got the game ender. Look even before the Commandos
just piled up yards right and left. By getting three,
you know, you know, the Lions actually moved the ball
up and down the field of relative ease. Jamier Gibbs

(05:47):
was exploding through that defense. There's a thirtieth rank defense.
And look, here's that's not Bury the lead. Detroit has
been remarkably banged up on the defensive side of the
ball for weeks now. Things finally boiled over. Washington average
over six and a half yards per play. They were
seven to twelve on third or fourth down opportunities, and
between those timely conversions and the turnovers they forced, it

(06:11):
was simply too much for the lines to overcome. As
a result, here you go again, Washington headed to the
NFC Title Game for the first time in thirty three years.
Can Jade Daniels become the first rookie quarterback to take
his team to a Super Bowl? Ma Reno almost did it.
That's why the Commanders won a stone col baller of

(06:31):
a rookie quarterback, a defense that made plays when they
needed to in situational football, Jaden Damiels was lights out
for basically the pole game. Missed a couple of throws,
and he's incredibly efficient as a passer. And oh, by
the way, he ran for fifty one yards, plays the
position with his eyes. He makes good decisions all right.

(06:55):
And the law firm of Robinson, mclaur and Inerts give
them all game balls. Because the reason I didn't think.
I knew Washington had to get into a shootout, but
I just didn't think. You know, you talked about that.
We've talked about the Lions defense being maligned, how about
the Commando's defense. But they stepped up and give it
up to Dan Quinn. And this is why the Lions

(07:17):
lost Bill Belichick. Turnovers and inability to get the big
stop when they needed it. Remember when I said make
them punt golf? Picked off three times, fumbled once, his
pick six gave Washington a two score lead, and he
threw a late first half pick that maintained that ten
point spread going into halftime. And at that point you
had to start to be very worried. You can't win

(07:40):
with that many miscues, not in the playoffs. You can't
win when you allow your opponent to repeatedly convert on
fourth down and to turn all four of its red
zone trips into touchdowns. Oh, by the way, did I
mention there were multiple key penalties including how does this
happen with this team? Twelve men on the field? A
twelve men on the field penal that gave the Commanders

(08:01):
another fourth down conversion, and that was on the goal line.
What was the turning point? Honestly, I think it was
this with the Lions leading seven to three in the
first quarter, deep in Washington Territory, about to take a
two score lead on third and one, golf drop back
to pass and Dorence Armstrong made the biggest play of
the season. He stripped him. The Commandos then reeled off

(08:24):
three consecutive touchdown drives and throwing a pick six just
for fun. And all of a sudden, you turn a
potential two score deficit into a two score lead. Unreal.
What's next? Washington heads to the NFC title game? I
imagine this now. Do I think the Rams are gonna

(08:45):
win in Philadelphia Sunday? No? I don't. But if boy
my buddy Kurt Kretzch kar Kurt Kretschmarby happy, the Rams
who started one to four in Theory could be hosting
the NFC championship game, are you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Ye?

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Now, I'm not kidding you. The good news is believe
it or not, and it feels like a million miles away.
There's still plenty of optimism in Detroit. They had a
multitude of injuries that's gonna reset coming in the next season,
You're gonna see Aiden Hutchinson back, Lee McNeil back. They'll
be back in the starting lineup. And the Lions still
managed to go fifteen to two with a skeleton crew defense.

(09:23):
That doesn't happen very much in the NFL. You know
the Commanders tonight, the Lions had a no name defensive
guys I even wouldn't have heard of back in August.
Maurice Norris, Al Kadeen, Mohammad Kendal, Victor Field or excuse me,
these are not players who would be starting. I'm pretty
much any NFL team had the Lions had a healthy defense.
Of course, then again, if your aunt Hick Cahoni should

(09:45):
be your uncle, it isn't hard to imagine that the
Lions would be on their way and they'll have a
sharp defensive turnaround even if Aaron Glenn's in the long
run the team next year, Terry and Arnold have another
year under his belt. He's going to be one of
the top quarnerbacks. And it's rakestraw Jack Campbell the only
second season exceled solid linebacker. So look the lot. Detroit's

(10:06):
the greatest sports town in America. I know in their
heart of hearts are thanking the lines and their players.
For an exciting four months, the Lions were the best
entertainment on television this year. They were They were you know,
they were the rage, the talk of the town, the
talk of the nation. And again the defense. It was
just a matter of time. I've been saying it since
the second half of the Bears game. They were cursed.

(10:29):
And then Emik Robertson suffered as carry injury early in
the game. He ended up in the hospital. Robertson had
been the star of the defense. Look at the film
against against the Vikings in Week eighteen. They pressured Sam
Darnel and nearly every down got a few sacks. They
were looking for that encore performance to that against Saturday
Night against Jayden Daniels, and it didn't happen. Did the

(10:52):
defensive lines simply failed to generate pressure. They had a
four mat rush, they blitzed, couldn't generate pressure. When the
line style up the blitz. The Commanders had the perfect counter.
You know how to beat the blitz Screens draws, traps.
Oh one was a fifty eight yard screen to Terry McLaurin, who,
in his tenure in Washington has never had him. He's

(11:12):
had plumbers and pipe fitters throwing to him. Now he's
got a real quarterback. The key to stopping the Washington
offense was to make life tough for Jade and Daniels.
They could not do that. He may be a rookie,
but he looks like a veteran. He completely calm carved
up the Lions with his arms and his legs and

(11:34):
for the final time again the defense. You can bag
on golf all you want. The defense failed to stop
Washington on the ground as well, not just through the year.
Brian Robinson look terrific average about seven yards of carry.
He only got sixteen yards against Tampa Bay last week
on ten carries, had almost eighty yards Saturday night. By
the way, the Lions often lost contained couldn't set the edge.

(11:57):
Aiden Hutchinson was gone. He'll return next season. He should
resume his unreal level of play. But with the rest,
you know, the Zadarius Smith was supposed to replace him,
not so much. What are you gonna do like a
art Giamatti said, The games are designed to break your heart.
Coming up, we're gonna bring in a gentleman. A wealth

(12:19):
of background in covering sports in multiple states and multiple modalities.
My buddy amal Shaw. We're gonna talk about the takeaways
from Saturday's games, well look ahead to sunny, look at
the National Championship game and the remainder of the playoffs,
and maybe a little MVP talk as well. I'm Bernie Fraddle.

come to you live from me tyrack dot com studios
here in Las Vegas. Just kids started. We'll take you
after three and Pacific six am Easter. Let's welcome in
a gentleman, a very storied career in the world of sports.
Seeing him on Amazon Showtime, work side by side with
Brent Musburger for many years, worked around the country. Good

(13:21):
friend of mine. Say hello to a mal Shaw. I'm
all how you doing, buddy.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
I'm doing well. I'm just glad to be on with you,
But are you okay? I know you have a lot
of ties to Detroit and you've done a lot of friends.
Fact that I used to work there, so I didn't
know if things were pretty somber right now for you
and everyone else.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Then you know, well they're very somber. But I'm so
used to it. You got to remember the ten years
that I was pre impulsed. The first year was Barry Sanders,
last year he disappeared, and the last year I covered
the team, they were rowing sixteen in the Rod Marinelli.
So this season was like Disneyland compared to that. But
when you have expectations of mall, you bring up a
good point. When there are these types of expectations, yeah,

(14:01):
it stings a lot for the good folks in Detroit.
But I got to tell you, as I'm sure you
observed since Thanksgiving, this defense they were going to have
their come ups, and they were going to have their
come ups. But let's talk about both games today. What
were your takeaways from the Lions commanders. I gotta tell you,

(14:21):
it's rare when a rookie quarterback wins a game on
the road, period now he's won two in a row.
This Commander's team is not a fluke. But what's your takeaway?

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Look, not taking anything away from the success that they
had in this one, but I think the injuries that
Detroit suffered on the defense side of the ball had
an impact on this team going down the stretch. We
saw Buffalo was able to move the ball well against them.
They did a good job in terms of the red
zone defense against Minnesota, but the Vikings had ample opportunities there.
I thought Jayden Gang has played a flawless game. The

(14:54):
turnovers were crucial. We saw the pick six Jared Goff
lets The one concern I have with Jared Goff He's
kind of a little bit of an upgraded version of
Kirk Cousins. Very good regular season quarterback. When the chips
are down and you push all in, is he a
guy you can rely on? You know that interception near
the end of the first half in the end zone,
that was a big play in the game because even

(15:14):
if you don't get to touchdown, you're at least getting
a field goal. You knew the Commanders getting the ball
to start the second half. There was just play after
playing and I'll tell you for me. The biggest play
this goes on Ben Johnson. Everyone's singing Ben Johnson's praises
like he's the only guy that knows offensive football on
this planet. But if you're paying your quarterback fifty three
million dollars, why do you have your wide receiver throwing
a pass than you? Well, here's my analogy. Go an

(15:40):
open heart surgery. Do you want your post now doing
the surgery? Would you have a wide receiver throwing the
ball when your seaton's on the line with ten minutes
to go?

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Listen, Amal. I don't know if you've heard of my
opening commentarer. I've blasted that uh and it was an
ill advised pass and it was an ill advised decision,
and that pretty much put a cap around the whole thing.
I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I followed Jamo's career since he's been at Ohio State
and then at Alabama. Look, he's never struck me as
the most cerebral guy of all time. And I'll tell
you right now, he should have been advising that play.
If nothing is there, which it wasn't throw the ball
into the third row. And he threw the ball up
for grabs. And that was the season right there, they
were moving the ball. He got seventeen eighteen yards on
the first play by Tim Patrick, might have been plus

(16:24):
or minus a couple of yards, But why would you
do that in that situation? To play fooled nobody, and
it was too long of a developing play. It just
wasn't going to work. It just didn't make sense to me.
What was that play could be run maybe in the
first quarter or second quarter. I didn't get it, James,
and Williams just throws it up because he's designated to
throw the football, and that killed the season right there.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
You know again, I'm so glad you brought this up
because he rolled right, rolled right, rolled right, and what
does that do? That draws defenders to the right or
to the left of it? And I don't know what
the hell he was thinking. It was an ill advised decision.
He was an ill advised execution and problem not the
greatest call. And uh, look, uh, you had one of
the greatest lines five years ago when you heard Josh

(17:07):
McDaniels was coming to the Raiders. I said, what do
you think about that? He goog will He's he bringing
Brady and Belichick with him. Right, of course, we know
what happened there. And look, I got nothing against Ben Johnson,
but you know, if he if he goes to the
Bears or the Raiders or wherever he's talking, is he,
you know, is he bringing uh Jamier Gibbs with him?

(17:27):
Is he bringing you know this the cadre of wide receivers.
So I saw that too, and I really scratched my head.
But they've been doing it all year, am, All four
different players have actually thrown passes besides golf. Let's jump ahead, uh,
and then I'll jump back because if if the Rams
were to prevail, they would actually host the NFC Championship

(17:49):
game against the Commanders. But do you think the Commanders
can continue this because as of late, no one solves
that offense.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Well, I think it's could be different challenge potentially fixing
the Rams, whose defensive front is done a really nice
job without having to bring a bled Philadelphia's played them
in two games and frankly should have beat them in
both games. The second game wasn't dropped by Devonte Smith
on third down, would have gotten the first down. They
would have killed the clock, kick afield and walked out
of the nation's capital with a win. And at that
time the division. So I think it'll be a challenge.

(18:20):
Give them all the credit in the world for what
they've done so far, beating Tampa and Detroit, and I
don't want to sound like I'm taking anything away from
their accomplishment, but if we're being very realistic, the Buccaneers
head and stuffed and those bleed all season long defensively,
and the Lions for the last four or five weeks
have been decimated by injuries and they've been banged up.
That doesn't take away from the victory that Washington had.
They were sensations. But let's not put them in New

(18:41):
Orleans just yet. Before they get through The Rams are
potentially Philadelphia, and I think it's going to be a
challenge going on the road in those spots.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
All right, let's talk about the other game that was
played Saturday. The Chiefs continue to win. I know there's
some concerns about their run defense, and I know there's
the group think echo chamber talking about the rest again,
but in high leverage situations, when the geek gets hot,
it's hard to breathe. They just seem to make plays.
Give me your analysis of the Chiefs, you know, in

(19:11):
terms of your expectation for them the remainder of the season.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
You know, Bernie Steph Curry is a great player, but
if you look at him historically as not delivered in
the clutch. I look at Patrick Mahomes as this generation's
Michael Jordan, a guy that can deliver in the clutch.
It doesn't matter what the situation is. He just finds
ways to win. You think about during that Great Bald
dynasty when they won six titles, Michael Jordan always found ways,
whether it's making the right pass, making the right shot himself.

(19:39):
It's the same thing with Mahomes. Whether it's a two
v one, whether it's a pass falling down, whatever the
plays needed, he finds a way to make it happen.
I thought there were a couple of poor decisions I
should say one poor decision in this game by Houston.
I thought the decision to try the fifty five yard
field goal with the weather being as cold as was
with the windshield about nine degrees just didn't make sense.

(20:00):
I'm so used to playing in that dome in Houston.
NRG Kayemi fairbearers tremendous. Remember he's a kid from Hawaii.
It's a big difference when you're playing in Kansas City
in the middle of the winter time, that's a big challenge.
I thought, in that situation, you either punt or you
go for it, and the miskick all of a sudden
then puts the ball at the forty five yard line.
You know, these coaches don't want to take sure three points.

(20:20):
When the opportunities present themselves, they go for it unnecessarily.
But then they're like, we're going to line up and
try a field goal from here to mars and then
when they missed, their surprise and I'm not saying anything
way again, Chie's got a great performance. But the first
thing if you're in Houston, Texans this offseason, you've got
to address the offensive line. Giving up eight sacks, three
to George Carl Loftus. The defense for Kansas City was tremendous.

(20:41):
I thought Sean played a pretty good game, mixing rand
the ball and Nico Collins was outstanding. But this team
needs to find some consistency on the offensive line if
they're going to challenge the Kansas City Chiefs because Mahomes
is not going anywhere. We got Jackson Allen in the
game tomorrow. Those three guys and Joe Burrow are going
to be staples for another seven, eight, nine, ten years.
So you've got to get better in other positions that

(21:02):
you're going to be able to catapult the Kansas City
Chiefs and remember one thing. They do so well during
the regular season, and they've got a division that's comparable
to what the Patriots had for two decades. Three teams now.
Denver's gotten better and the Chargers made the playoffs this year.
But you have three teams for about half a dozen years.
I couldn't get out of their own way. They were
the Keystone Cops for a long time.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Yeah, you know, not to go down this road. I
just feel, you know, Casey Stegele once said people will
beat the Yankees to get stuck stand at the Pinstrips.
I don't feel like anybody goes in the arrowhead and
beats him. But that's a conversation for next time. Let's
talk about the premier AFC matchup on Sunday. Bills Ravens.
Bill's open up one and a half. The line crosses

(21:41):
over zero. Baltimore is now favored. I don't feel like
there's a logical universe in with this Buffalo team, which
I have a lot of respect for is getting points
at home, especially since you consider Baltimore's pass defense has
been a disappointment for a lot of the regular season
since Kyle Hamilton has stepped up. But is who do
you expect prevail in this game Sunday A.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Big revenge spot here for Buffalo. Remember they got embarrassed
by the Rams earlier this year, and so I think
you got to get Buffalo the edge here. Whether it
could be a little bit of a factor cold weather
in Buffalo at Orchard Park. How does Lamar far in
this situation remains to be seen. Last year in the
AFT Championship game against Kansas City didn't play an overwhelming games.
The perimeter without Jay Flowers is a real challenge from

(22:26):
this Ravens team got to rely on Mark Andrews and
then the eighteen wheeler. Dereck Henry is going to have
to have a big day. If Buffalo's accuse a. Baltimore
is going to win this game. If the Bill is
going to come out Victoria's, They've got to shut down Henry.
If they can do that, I think they've got a
great chance to win the game. But Lamar's ability to
scramble and make plays. It's going to put a lot
of pressure on this Buffalo defense. Bernie sounds like to me,

(22:46):
you might be leaning towards the Bills here, but I
hate to do it. But I'm going to go with
the road chalk here. I just think Lamar presents too
many problems. The one thing that could come back to
bite Harbaugh and company is if they try these long
distance field goals with Justin Tucker. I firmly believe this
is his last year in Baltimore. He has dropped off precipitously.
I don't think this team's going to be able to

(23:07):
continue to do what they're doing with him sitting there
trying these long distance kicks that go awry, and Buffalo
they have to have zero turnovers in this game. I
don't think they can afford to turn the ball over
and give the Ravens a shortfield.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
And just to set the recordstrate I have not fired
on this game. You can make a case for both sides,
So I'm gonna watch it like a fan. But you
bring up a great point about kickers. Justin Tucker has
had a very tough season twenty two to three, and
Tyler Bass it wasn't that long ago. He pulled to

(23:41):
Scott Norwood wide right last season against Kansas City in
the divisional game. So this game could come down to kickers.
And if does anybody have an edge in this game
if it comes down.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
To kickers, I think it's a toss up right now
because the one thing that the Ravens haven't seem to
figure it out. They still think they've got Justin Tucker
from twenty twenty twenty twenty one. If you look at
over the last two seasons, he's been the worst ticker
in the NFL from fifty yards and beyond, So they
can't think those unnecessary risks they need. They're guy in
the MVP in my opinion, Lamar Jackson number eighth to
continue do what he's been doing.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
All right, let's talk about the NFC game. As I
look at this, I just feel this is a bad
matchup for the Rams, honestly for multiple reasons. And Stafford's
won and eight in cool weather games. The Rams allow
one hundred and thirty yards on the ground this season
at Boswell for Saquon Barkley. I feel like if the
Eagles want to, they'll bludge in the Rams with their
running attack, and I think vig Vanju will dial up

(24:35):
enough things to keep Stafford confused. Not saying the Rams
aren't going to compete, but I feel like I feel
like the Eagles win and cover this number. What are
your thoughts?

Speaker 4 (24:44):
Look, I'm kind of up in the air on this one.
I think this is going to be a tight game.
The one thing I get in the edge two for me,
quarterback play goes to the Rams, and the coaching advantage
goes to the Rams as well. I'm not a big
knick Sirianni guy. I think Sharianni's got a ton of
talent on his roster and sometimes they can overcomes some
of his decisions of unnecessary risk thinking. I think Sean
mcvay's ability to keep it eat and keel helps this

(25:06):
Rams team quite a bit. You know, when you look
at it. We talk about the Eagles, and rightfully so,
they've had a tremendous year. There are two drop catches
away in the regular season, the Saquon Barkley fourth down
to three against Atlanta. I mentioned the Devonte Smith and
won against the Commanders. These were drop passes, not something
defended by those two offers opponents. This team could have
had a sixteen and one regular season. However, with that

(25:27):
being said, they didn't look like remember when you looked
at those Niners and Cowboys teams and they went fourteen
and two or thirteen and three, they look dominant. To me,
Philly hasn't necessarily looked that dominant in a lot of situations.
I think the Eagles win this game, but I like
the Rams and the points here. I think Nikua and
Cooper present some challenges. And then Tyrad Williams is it's

(25:47):
crazy to say for somebody in the LA market, but
Tyrad Williams has been criminally underrated in my estimation.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
Yet very good, Yeah, very good. All right, Just for giggles,
let's say the Eagles and Ravens move on. You know
both number you know Philly and Kansas City would host
those games. Do both home teams prevail and move on
to the Super Bowl? Do you think there'd be an upset?
Just look, just look ahead for your fire from the

(26:13):
hip super Bowl prediction.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
Yeah, I would go with the Eagles in the NFC.
I think the Eagles in the driver's seat. Now you
got both games potentially at the link your great position there,
and then from the AFC perspective, it's kind of like
you got to dethrone the King, and until Baltimore does it,
I think it'll be different than it was during the
regular season because I really believe this weather is going
to play a factor.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Yes, I agree, it's.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
Just listen for people that haven't. Let Bernie, you grew
up in I mean you live in Detroit. Yeah, I
grew up in Cleveland. Until you've been in that kind
of weather and you're outside and you get hit, you
don't really understand what it means when it's nine degrees
and the windshiw.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Is zero, no very much. So it has a cumulative effect.
And I think there's some questions. You know, Lamar Jackson
are going to have to move the ball through the year.
They can't just rely on Derrick Henry, although you are right,
if he gets going, he's going to be a problem.
But you can't be one dimensional. And so I'm watching
Hall Jackson operates from the pocket. So you know, maybe

(27:13):
get your back run for the super Bowl. But I
think you know, as far as what we can expect,
it feels like from here on out, it just feels
it's going to be chalk. It's going to be a
chalk tournament. But let's hold that thought before I dive
into the college game Sunday night or Monday night that
we want to get your take on. Let's just delve
into this ever so quickly. In this coaching carousel, as

(27:37):
much as I would love to see it, I don't
think Deon Sanders ends up as the coach of the Cowboys.
Your thoughts on that, I don't.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
Think so either. First of all, if you, Dion, do
you really want to take a job with Dak Truscott.
You've got, in my opinion, on a slighter, lesser version
of a Kirk Cousins there. I just don't think Dak
Truscott's a good enough quarterback to be able to win
a Super Bowl unless you assemble a team around him
that's got the talent of the nine Have or Kansas
City's defense, or something comparable to that. That's the first thing.

(28:04):
Because remember Dack's on that four year extension. You're right
in the middle of that. I don't know if you'd
want to be stuck with him there. I'm with you.
I don't know if Jerry's going to want to bring
in a coach that's going to have more casher and
name recognition than him. That's another thing. I think Jerry
likes to have some of these coaches where he can
kind of run the ship from afar, and I think

(28:27):
that'll be something to pay attention to. But you know, Bernie,
I don't know if if it's going to be for
sure not, but it seems like Ben Johnson's going to
be going to the Raiders potentially. Here's the thing. Do
you want your first job to be with the program
that is no quarterback?

Speaker 1 (28:42):
See? This is an interesting dynamic. I'm glad you brought
that up. I was going to segue into that, be
careful what you wish for. The Raiders need somebody who's
been a CEO before this. I don't care how talented
Ben Johnson is that he is. He's going to be
learning on the job if he goes to the Raiders
and you don't have a quarterback. And this is a

(29:03):
franchise now paying four coaches in four years since they
got to Las Vegas. Mark Davis doesn't seem to care.
Does Tom Brady have that much power here? I mean,
I know that he's putting the full court press on
Ben Johnson. And if you believe the reports he's making
in roads. So the question is now Ben Johnson's free
to interview all day. Now, does Brady have that much

(29:24):
power that he could pull this off?

Speaker 4 (29:26):
I don't know, but Brady Brady is seen like a
Jordan type of figure like Lebron has seemed like in
the NBA among his peers, and Brady is the same way.
From an NFL perspective, I think there is some of
that celebrity and just oh my gosh, that's Tom Brady
type of situation there. But if you're Ben Johnson, you've
got to make the right decision here. Several friends and coaching,

(29:48):
and you know, one of things they always say is
people think, oh there's an opening, you got to take
the head coaching job. Some of you take for the money,
but these coordinators in the NFL are making enough money.
You don't need to necessarily jump into a situation. Because
if you don't jump into the right situation, Bernie, you
could be out of a job in twenty four to
thirty six months and you may never get another opportunity.
That things go completely sideways.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Agree, let's look ahead to Monday night. Certainly we've got
a couple of blue bloods Ohio State. I believe the
number is currently eight and a half. No way am
I getting in front of a speeding train. And they
won their first three games by fifty nine points. I
don't think Notre Dame's going to be able to double
Ohio State stud freshman receiver. But that's not the point.

(30:31):
When the two teams get on the field, the dynamic
takes you over who's more prepared that night. Do you
have an hangl one this game. I haven't fired on
it yet.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
I like Ohio State by margin in this game. I
think they're really too dominated. You know, this game reminds
me a little bit of when Notre Dame played Alabama
in twenty twelve and they got beat forty two to fourteen.
I don't think it'll be as high at scoring, but
the reality of it is, let's be realistic here. Marcus
Freeman was getting ready to get pushed out of South

(31:00):
been by everybody when they lost in Northern Illinois. They
forget that they lost to Marshall last year. Now, all
of a sudden, you beat Indiana with Curtis Rourke, you
beat Drew Aller, and you beat a backup gunner Stockton
and I remember in that game, Kirby Smart made a
bad decision at the end of the first half to
try and move the football. I kept on saying, what
are you doing here? You're not going to go down

(31:20):
and score and you had six to three go to
the locker room only down three points the fumble. Riley
Leonard completes that thirteen yard pass and when people forgetting
that game, Riley Leonard had less than one hundred yards passing.
He was the leading rusher. I think Jeremiah Love is
one of the top running backs in college football. But
the one thing that had gotten overshadowed during this Ohio
State run and during the season. Yes, they lost to
Michigan and they lost to excuse me, Oregon, but against

(31:44):
Michigan they gave up points. Against Oregon they lost by
a single point. This defense has only given up more
than twenty points twice all year in the both times
were against Oregon and in.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
The Road Bowl.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
Those a couple it felt like garbage time scores. People
don't realize how elite is defenses. They kept Texas and
checked the fourteen points they shut down Tennessee. Tennessee scored
with less than a minute ago to make it a
seventeen point game. I mean, they have been thoroughly, thoroughly dominant,
and I think they're gonna be able to slow down
Riley Leonard. I thought Hartman last year was a better
passer than Riley Leonard is here. I think it's gonna

(32:18):
be a real challenge for them to slow down this
Ohio State defensive front. They've got sixteen sacks in the playoffs.
I think this is going to be It's got a
lot of hype, but I think the game is going
to be decided by halftime.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Listen. I honestly feel that way too. I feel like
it's a thirty to thirteen game. You bring up a
great point. Ohio's State is the best roster in the
country on both sides. No one talks about their defense.
The only allow twelve points a game this year, they
only allowed two hundred and fifty one yards per game.
And Notre Dame's offense is not great. And you know
what I can't get out of my mind. If you
saw the USC Notre Dame game, UNC put up five

(32:51):
hundred yards against that vaunted Notre Dame defense. That's to
me a real red flag when you consider that Ohio
State's got weapons.

Speaker 4 (32:59):
Galore, and to your point, it was a situation where
the couple of pick sixes saved them. Look, if you
know Will Howard has been tremendous most of the year.
If he doesn't make one or two aarrant throws, even
if you can shut down Jeremiah Smith, you still got
to contend with Abuca, Tate, j Scott at the tight end.
And then of course the two running backs Henderson and Judkins.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Look buddy good stuff. For some reason, I just simply
haven't had the colhones to fire on that game. And
I don't tease in college, so I may watch that
as a fan as well. But of all a great stuff.
Really appreciate you. Let's get you on a game before
too long. We'll talk soon.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Thanks, buddy. Appreciate the time as.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Amal Shaw Showtime Sports, many years with Brent Mussburger, as
you can tell very much as his finger on the pulse.
Coming up, I want to give my quick takeaways on
the other game played today. You heard my thoughts on
Lions and Mandels. How about the Texans Chiefs. I've got

(34:03):
some thoughts you're gonna want to hear them. I'm Bernie
fraddlewer comedy line from Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tarret
dot com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the
Bernie Fraddle Show. I'm Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
How We're back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Come toy line from the Tyrek dot com studios here
in Las Vegas. Football fans be sure to turn into
Fox Sports Radio every Sunday morning, beginning at ten am
Eastern seventy am Pacific for Countdown to Kickoff presented by
bet MGM, Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, and my Man Professional

(34:41):
Better Bill Krackenberger. They'll have you covered three hours before
kickoff every Sunday morning listening to Countdown to KIOFF presented
by BETTEMGM right here on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app. Well, the Kansas City Chiefs game, especially the
way it ended, drew a lot of attention and how
was your day? But I have some other takeaways regarding

(35:07):
the Chiefs. Perhaps people have been waiting for this all year. Yes,
Travis kelce there was a big time Travis kelcey siding
when he caught that thirteen yard touchdown pass for Mahomes
that gave the Chiefs a twenty to twelve lead. It
felt like they were not going to be denied today,
and they weren't. And by the way, Kelsey also had
a forty nine yard catch and run, which was spectacular.

(35:31):
First time he'd gained more than twenty yards after the
catch yards after the catch the entire season, right seven catches,
one hundred and seventeen yards, one touchdown. When the situation
demands greatness, the Chiefs and their individual players are great.
And Kelsey has not had fifteen straight playoff games with
at least five receptions and seventy yards and those are

(35:54):
That's the longest streak in NFL history. Xavier Worthy is
everything is advertised and when you think about it, he
watched this game. And let's give the Texans credit. They
were game. They have deamed the Chiefs by one hundred
and fourteen yards. They led time and possession, and Hollywood Brown,
DeAndre Hopkins, Juju Smith Schuster were completely quiet. Worthy. Xavier

(36:15):
Worthy was the only wide receiver to catch pass. You know,
Mahomes didn't break any records today, sixty to twenty five,
a bucks seventy seven, but He now has sixteen career
postseason wins, tied with the guy you may have heard of,
Joe Montana, second most wins. He's got a way to
catch Tom Brady's got thirty five, and I get it.
The Chiefs offense began a little rusty, but the Chiefs

(36:39):
have done this more than once. Okay, they're always ready.
Nicki Romiggio returns the opening kickoff sixty three yards to
get stifled in the red zone. But the Chiefs, again,
they're the Chiefs. If you want to have some concerns
about the Chiefs, you might want to take a little
bit of a look at their run defense, which I
think is some what concerning. They might want to shore

(37:02):
up that run defense. Joe Mixon consistently found running lanes
between the tackles, and he got outside a couple of times.
He had a thirteen yard Touchdow Runner the third quarter
that got the you know, lead down to thirteen to twelve.
The kicker misses the extra point. We'll get to that
in a minute. But if you look ahead to next week,

(37:22):
let's say, just for giggles, the Chiefs faced the Baltimore Ravens.
They have the number one rushing attack in the league,
or even if they faced the Bills. The Bills are
a top nine offense. Chiefs gave up ninety five yards
on the ground in the first half a loon Saturday,
Houston averaged over five yards of carry. They ran for

(37:43):
a buck fifty all right, But do I think Steve
Spagnola will figure it out between now next week? Yeah?
I do. But you can raise an eyebrow about that.
And that's also not forget the you know, I've said
it a thousand times. Football's played in three phases. Special
teams can be big. The Texans special teams had a

(38:06):
day to forget. First, they gave up a sixty three
yard kickoff return to begin the game, and their kicker,
Kymie Fairbairn, he badly misfired on a fifty five yard
field goal. The damn thing landed an overland park, hit
somebody in the head, then he missed the game tyg
extra point in the third period. Those just a flay

(38:27):
a team. And if it wasn't that bad, or if
that wasn't bad enough, then they had that thirty five
yard field goal blocked with them to two minutes to go.
Had it been a successful field goal, it would have
made it a one possession game. I know a lot
would have had to happen there, But you know, if
ifs and butts were canny and that's you all have
a merry Christmas. The Texans offensive line needs work. The

(38:51):
one thing the Chiefs did very well was pressure c
Days Drout. He was under durest the entire game. He
was sacked eight times, got hit more than Rocky Balboa.
The Chiefs had fourteen quarterback hits. Give it up to
George Carl Loftus. He had a big time coming out party.
Three sacks all by himself. And look, I think the
world of CJ. Stroud. He was sacked fifty two times

(39:14):
during the regular season. I think they've done a hell
of a job Dimico Ryans with this team, But Houston's
priority has to be on offensive line. Final thing, Andy
Reid joins a rare company. He got his three hundredth
career win Saturday, But like Patrick Mahomes says, he wants
three to or two up. Next, either Baltimore or Buffalo,

(39:34):
we go to the NBA. Mark Medina Medina Magic joins
us next. Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie
Fraddle show on Fox Sports Radio. Well, that's right, you

(40:20):
Very simply put, it's that time. Mark Medina Medina Magic
every Saturday night, twelve midnight Pacific on the Bernie Frattles Show.
He's our Fox Sports Radio nbaguru. You hear him all
around the network. Mark, I want to start with this
would be signed off last Saturday night. It was uncertain

(40:41):
as to win the Los Angeles teams Lakers would resume
play given the historic e Ventsintona, California. And if I'm
reading minds a little bit, it seemed to me like
when the NBA announced that they would resume one Monday
with the Lakers, you were a little non plays and
by the way, all nonplust means as you were a

(41:02):
little surprised, not even sure how to react on that one.
Sometimes the audience doesn't know what we're saying here, so
I got to spell it out forgive me. But were
you a little nonplussed about that? And what were the
factors of the NBA considered that in making this decision
to start.

Speaker 5 (41:20):
Yeah, I was uncertain about it at the time, only
because there was a lot of warnings about the win
continuing to get worse and the fire wasn't fully contained.
I think it was the right call. It's going to
be a long haul ahead, unfortunately with the rebuilding process,
but just from a safety standpoint right now, it was

(41:40):
clear that having the games wasn't going to compromise resources
with you know, traffic congestion, you know, paramedics being able
to get to the fire sites. I think, you know,
obviously there's business interest, but just being able to have
fans go to something to enjoy every day life was important.

(42:01):
So yeah, it was ultimately the right call, no brainer.
But you know, you were winded a week ago. There
was a lot more fluidity with what was going on.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Yeah, and so in retrospect, I think it was a
correct decision. Do you agree?

Speaker 5 (42:15):
Yeah? And I think the other thing is that, you know, regardless,
the NBA was going to have a scheduling nightmare. I
was trying to reschedule games. I think that was part
of the thing is they want to minimize say that.
Obviously you do have to reschedule seeing games. You know
the fact that the first part of the Lakers Spurs
game was postponed, and the Lakers Hornets game and Clippers

(42:37):
Hornets game. But what I'm geing as it could have
been a lot worse.

Speaker 1 (42:42):
Absolutely, and I think they still had to reschedule nine games.
Is that correct about it?

Speaker 5 (42:46):
Yeah, without a doubt. And I don't have the schedule
in front of me, but I know that the NBA
already rescheduled, you know, those Lakers Spurs and the Lakers
Hornets and Clippers Hornets games. But yeah, they're still figuring
some other things out.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
All right. I want to talk about Jimmy Butler because
his suspension ended, the team suspension ended, and all I
heard heading up to the last day was it inside
that I retired there they were kind of dreading it.
But he starts scores eighteen points granted in a loss.
Where does things stand now with Jimmy Butler in the
Miami Heat.

Speaker 5 (43:22):
It's still day to day. You know, February sixth is
when they have to make a decision when they trade.
So I think both sides are trying to make that happen.
But the Heat want to have, you know, a really
good deal in return. The problem is, what is the
market for Jimmy Butler. He's not going to the Lakers,
He's not going to the Warriors. I don't think either
team's interested in Jimmy Bower, and I think in fairness,

(43:45):
they don't really have a lot of assets that the
Heat are interested in. So which teams could be players?
Maybe the Denver Nuggets. The doubt would require them to
dangle Michael Porter Junior the Milwaukee Buck as a team.
I know that's obviously been reported from some other outlets.

(44:05):
But the reality is it's gonna be really complicated because
the Heat don't believe in rebuilds. Even though they've had
an up and down season, they still can be in
the plan mix, be in the playoffs mix. And the
other thing is the Heat don't necessarily have to adhere
to Jimmy Butler's demands. But from a practical standpoint, he

(44:30):
does have some leverage here because he has a fifty
two million dollar player option next summer. And that doesn't
mean that technically the Heat have to trade Jimmy Butler
before the trade deadline, but if they don't, he obviously
has fifty two million reasons to opt into that, and
then you know, there is a chance that he would

(44:52):
come back the following season or they would have to
find a trading partner that would take that kind of salary,
and so that could be even more complicated here. So
usually the Heat aren't a team that gets buoyed around,
and pat Riley and Mickey Rison run things the way
that they want to see fit. But this is a
very complex predicament. But in the short term, Jimmy Butler's back,

(45:16):
He's going to want to play well to Booster's trade value.
The Miami Heat are going to want to have him
play well at Boosters trade value, but very much is
tenuous day to day.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
Let's fast forward. How surprised would you be if Jimmy
Butler's still on the roster in April?

Speaker 5 (45:34):
I would be surprised, you know, I don't think that
the Heat are going to accept a deal that just
has them collect a bunch of draft picks. But I
think that it's much different that if he was going
to be a free agent, because they would just say,
you know what, we'll let you walk and we'll enjoy
the cap space here. Because he has a player option,

(45:57):
that's a huge game changer. The Heat don't want to
have to take back any more salary than they want to,
and the fact that he would be due for fifty
two million dollars makes even more challenging to strike a
deal given his injury situation this past year.

Speaker 1 (46:12):
Exactly, And there in lies the dilemma. Teams know the situation,
any potential trading partner, dance partner knows the situation. I'm
sure that he privately would like to drive him to
the airport tomorrow and be done with it. But they
also know that they don't want to give him away
for a bag of ball. So there in lies the

(46:33):
dilemma I think I'm alluding to, and I certainly accept
your answer, But if you know, you're pretty emphatic, where
does he end up? Then? How do they consummate this deal?

Speaker 4 (46:45):
You know?

Speaker 5 (46:46):
Here, here's The other thing that makes it complicated is
that if Jimmy Butler was really about okay, he wants
to find a team that maximizes roy, he wins, he
opts out of that player option, and he joins the
team even though helves a pay cut. In fairness, I
don't think any of us would turn out fifty two
million dollars. But clearly the rain on the wall is

(47:08):
this connect has to do with the fact that the
Heat were unwilling to give him an extension before the
season started. And I don't blame the Heat. He has
injury history. Now where they did have shortcomings, has actually
got the Finals in twenty twenty three. In there in
eighth seed, they didn't retain a lot of their players,
you know, gave Vincent and Caleb Martin. Now. Part of

(47:30):
it how to do with the fact that they want
to go big game hunting with Damian Loward and Jimmy
Butler is all about that, but they drew a y
in the stand that they don't want to get their roster. So,
you know, Miami definitely isn't blameless here. They've had their
own mistakes, but I think everything they've done was on
you know, do good efforts, and there was a lot

(47:52):
of uh, you know, good intention with everything, but clearly,
you know, the once Jimmy Bower realized he wasn't get
to the extension, his frustrations mounted throughout the season.

Speaker 1 (48:06):
I do agree with you, nobody would in the right
mind would turn down fifty two million dollars. But I
just got a text from Dennis Shruder he said, I
turned down eighty seven million. What are you talking about?
Little levity on a Saturday night Mark? You know that's
my calling card, right.

Speaker 5 (48:20):
Yeah, Well, that's a whole other case where he miscalculated
what his earnings could be and he's wanting to regret it.

Speaker 1 (48:29):
Hey, by the way, that kind of segues into what
I want to talk about next. We're just really, you know, less, well,
around two weeks away from the trade deadline, which is Thursday,
February sixth, not really hearing a hell of a lot
of trade rumors. I know the Nets have gotten rid
of a couple people, including Dennis Shruder, But who's the

(48:52):
big name out there that you expect to move?

Speaker 5 (48:55):
Well, the Brooklyn Nets became sellers because clearly they're in
the tank mode business now, so they can get a
Cooper flag next summer, you know, and and improving their
lottery ons. I suspect that the Washington Wizards are going
to be sellers because they're not good right now and uh,
you know, they're trying to develop Alexar their number two picks.

(49:18):
So I would think that you ownis Valentnis would be
a prime candidate. You know, you look at guys like
Kyle Kuzma. Uh, he could be a candidate as well.
Jordan Poole's had a career year, but I don't want
to say anyone's in touch with the Wizards like they're
at the Bottomed Eastern Conference. But he has, you know,

(49:38):
carved himself a nice role where, you know, unlike his
time with the Warriors, there's better consistency. He's showing some
leadership qualities. But regardless of that, I would expect Washington
be a seller, most notably with Valentness and with Kuzma.
But here's here's the problem here. Obviously we talked about
Jimmy Butler, but uh, there's no other you know, player

(50:01):
that's considered a missing piece to a championship puzzle that
really changes the landscape. And Adam Johnson, Okay, I mean, yeah,
he'll be a you know.

Speaker 1 (50:13):
You know the reason I say that, I forgive me
for cutting you off, because you're right about the Nets.
But for some reason they're going to drive a hard
barking for Cam Johnson. He's a good player, he's in
his Priyan not you know, not a great player. Why
does the Brooklyn Nets want so much back for him? Then?

Speaker 5 (50:28):
Well it's just leverage. I mean they're they're trying to
gut everything. They want to get Cooper Cup or not
Cooper Cup. He's with the Rams, got Cooper Flag with
the firm Duke when he becomes the number one pick. Yeah,
Cam Johnson's a role player. I mean, yeah, he's a
great player. The Nets have been No. Nine when he

(50:48):
hasn't played, Like clearly he has a skill set, but
he's not He's not a game changer. So yeah, I'm
not seeing unless joannas Anton Decompo asked for trade or
any other star there's I don't think there's anyone here
that moves the needle. You know, Walker Castler with the
Utah Jazz, that's a really good player and I think

(51:10):
the Lakers should go for But knowing how Danny Ainge is,
he wants the farm. With that, I mean with Rudy Goberr.
He got a million draft picks out of that deal,
and I think that he has high expectations. With Walker Custler,
what I'm gaining at is there doesn't seem to be
that player that is a game changer. Jimmy Butler is
a nice player, but because of the injury history, because

(51:32):
of questions about okay, it has to be the right fit.
I don't think teams are going to be gutting the
roster just to make that happen. So with that, it's
going to be busy. Teams are going to text and call,
but there's going to be moves, but I think it's
all going to be pretty marginal. To be honest with you,
I think.

Speaker 1 (51:50):
The New Orleans Pelicans should take a serious look at
I mean, maybe not Herb Jones, but certainly Zion. It's funny,
since we talked about this last Saturday, have he to
come up a couple of times now that the Pelicans
really should consider moving on from Zion. Trey Murphy guys
like that, and you know what, the Pistons I understand.
I guess I'm kind of asking two questions here. The

(52:10):
Pistons all of a sudden now look like a team
not only that should be in the playoff picture, but
could theoretically make some noise. So do they find a
dance partner with Kate Cunningham or if they do that,
does that take away from kid Cunningham's possessions? Is a
double edged sword. Thoughts on the Pistons, Thoughts on the Pelicans.

Speaker 5 (52:29):
Yeah, Well, with the Pelicans, yeah, I would expect them
to try to be sellers. Now, this is a tough
predicament because, again Zion Williamson, I haven't got any indication
that the Pelicans have finally gotten to the point that
they are going to get rid of them. Because even
though they haven't been happy with the fact that he

(52:50):
missed the team Flyda who was very telling that they
preeptively put out a statement with quotes from David Griffin.
I think that you have to keep in mind a
few things. When he's on the court, he is really good.
They are a small market teams, so they have to
not take this lightly with trading a generational type star

(53:12):
that can fill in the seats here. But I think
to a lesser extent they have been trying to find
a trading part with brandon Ingram titting back to last summer.
You know, part of it has to do with salary
cap restrictions of second aprin concerns, but it also has
to do with just fit. You know, they already have CJ. McCollum.

(53:32):
There feels like there's a redundancy with ball handling responsibility,
especially since they had to Jeantey Murray last summer. He
did not do well in the first round against Oklahoma City.
So I'm a brandon Ingram fan at like his game,
but I think that the Pelicans have concluded that, you
know what, he's not a number one guy, and maybe

(53:54):
not even the number two guy. But I think because
of that, teams might not view beyond as that missing
championship piece. So that's number one as far as the
Pistons go. Yeah, they're going to be in the playoffs.
It's not you know, whether it's going to be playing
or at the sixth seed. That remains to be seen.

(54:14):
But they have a really good combination of obviously a
lot of good young talent, but there's a maturity to them.
There's a lot more structure, there's a lot more discipline.
Talking to them a week with Beasley a few weeks ago,
he mentioned how, you know, they have adopted what he
calls the breakfast club of guys coming in before shoot
around to get workout in, and that's a sign of

(54:38):
you know, a lot of good mature players that are
about the right thing.

Speaker 1 (54:42):
You know. Surprisingly, and for me, someone under the radar,
the Memphis Grizzlies are having a fine season, even though
John Morant just missed his eighteenth game so he's now
no longer eligible for postseason awards. Have I underestimated Memphis?

Speaker 5 (54:57):
Yeah, I mean you should have considered them to be
back in the mix. Obviously, it mostly starts with John
Moran's availability, but you know, I think that they've really
taken the lessons from the past few playoff seasons that
we're underachieving that you know, talk is cheap and now
it's about the actions and maturing. A lot part of

(55:18):
that obviously has to do with John his availability and
you know, not gain in trouble again, but it also
has to do with their supporting cast. I mean, someone
like Marcus Smart really sets the tone. He's coming off
the bench. He's not necessarily thrilled about it, but there's
a buy in, and I think that's a trickle down
effect because of who he was, who he is with,

(55:41):
you know, playing with the Boston Celtics, having that respect
level of being in the finals. But Zach Edi, you know,
their top draft pick, has shown he's an NBA player.
Sharon Jackson Junior is a great defender. Desn Bane is
a great two way player. Scottie Pippen Junior has been
a diamond in the roughs. And you know, if I'm

(56:02):
the Lakers, I would write a lot that I didn't
do what I could to keep them and give them
more playing time. They have a really good balanced team
and Taylor Jenkins is a really great coach.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
Talking with Mark Medina Medina Magic Fox Sports Radio on
every Saturday night twelve minute and then Bernie Frattles Show
twelve midnight Pacific, Mark, I want to switch gears, but
I consider this to be very serious subject matter that
you haven't talked about in a long time. Almost a year.
There were reports court reports this last week that indicated
that John tay Porter, and this has been reported by

(56:35):
reputable organizations I believe, including The New York Times, He
admitted to a scheme where he intentionally influenced game performance.
He was texting betters, I'm going back to the locker
room to get my eye checked down. Don't know if
I'm going to play much more. It's going to affect
prop bets for him. How concerning is this to the
commissioner Adam Silver and so he addressed this and what

(56:55):
is the NBA. How's the NBA dealing with this?

Speaker 5 (56:58):
Yeah, it's very area. I mean, the NBA go dating
back to the Tim Donicky scandal almost what's fifteen seventeen
years ago. The thing that keeps them up on at
night is any notion that there's an impurity to the game.
And you know, whether it's officiating or whether there's you know,
some inside inside efforts from players betting on outcomes. They

(57:24):
don't want that to happen, obviously, and they're very sensitive
to it. And here, you know, unlike in the past era,
the NBA has embraced for business reasons, having partnerships with
different gambling companies when it comes to ads and and
all that. And they've been embracing that. But here is

(57:45):
kind of the downside of that that this opens up
a Pandoras box of players, you know, being able to
you know, take advantage of the information that they have
and tip off people that want to gamble on outcomes.
And it's not just you know, the games themselves, it's
the prop bets over every little minuti thing. So I

(58:06):
think we'll find out what the NBA's findings are and
what their decisions are. But I think there is a
little bit of a side of relief that as of now,
there hasn't been any knowledge that any other player is
involved with us. And you know, they take this seriously
because any incident is bad. But Johntay Porter wasn't really

(58:27):
a relevant player, and so I think that there's a
sigh of relief that as of now, this isn't a
signal that this is part of a widespread paper trail.

Speaker 1 (58:37):
Well, and I know there are mechanisms in place living
here in Vegas. The sportsbooks really do cooperate with the
NBA and all the major sports leagues when they see
irregular betting patterns or something unusual. And with today's metadata
and electronic you know, it's not hard to sort of
follow the money. If you get my drift. One last thing, Mark,
and this is our checkout. Excuse me, yeah, Mark, that

(59:02):
I was nonplussed when I saw what is the situation
where Lebron James and Maverick Carter are trying to coalesce
a group of investors to put together five billion dollars
to create an international basketball league to compete with the NBA.
Am I is my discernment on that. Correct? What's going

(59:22):
on here?

Speaker 5 (59:23):
Well, to clarify here, Lebron James isn't a part of this,
but his business manager is. So it is interesting because yes,
the game is global, but the NBA is seen as,
you know, the best league in the world, and this
is where everyone plays, and so you want to have competition.

(59:44):
It's too early to know how this is going to
play out, but clearly, you know, every professional sports league
has a lot of interest for a number of reasons.
People love sports, people love watch on TV, they love gambling,
they loves going to events. But I'm surprised that someone's

(01:00:05):
going to start a league that essentially could compete against
the NBA. I mean, the NBA has been king for
a while, and I know we talk about ratings decline,
et cetera, but that's a whole other conversation. The NBA
has never been as lucrative as it is now, So
I don't see the endgame here. I don't get it.

(01:00:26):
But look, everyone wants to find new ways to find
new revenue streams, and I guess this is one of them.

Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Well, for what it's worth, it's not a great read,
but it's a reed in Fortune magazine and gentleman by
the name of Paul Confino. His byline was the raising
five million for a basketball league to rival the NBA.
So you know, I'm sure he's researched. What does it matter.
I mean, these things happen all the time in terms
of we're an evolving society. But it caught my eye,

(01:00:55):
and I'm glad you corrected that, because that's my fault.
It just says leron james business partner. I'm glad you
corrected that that he's not actually involved.

Speaker 5 (01:01:03):
Yeah, I don't think Lebron would be able to do
that as a current player, and I know that on
top of that, he has said that once he retires
at some point, he'd love to get involved as an
NBA owner, and so he's be part of you know,
ownership groups that has different you know, business ties, whether
it's with the Boston Red Sox. I believe you know,

(01:01:26):
some teams, some soccer teams in the Champions League, but
much different than if it would be directly involved with basketball.

Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Mark great Stuff is always and as usual as we
look ahead to next Saturday, who knows what the NBA
news cycle storylines will bring, but it never it never
fails to deliver.

Speaker 5 (01:01:49):
Hey, I'm sure we'll talk plenty of more Jimmy Butler,
Trader Emers next week's stay tuned.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Yeah, fair enough, because I think there's a real, real
dilemma there, and in terms of the Heat wanting to
move on, he wants to move on, but at what price?
Right at one point is to become a pyrrhic victory,
no doubt.

Speaker 5 (01:02:09):
And the other wrinkle here is the Miami Heat. They're
not the top of the East, but they're also not
the bottom. They still have a recipe to stay in
that mix as either a play team or sure at
the bottom of the playoffs seats of the sixth seeds,
so they don't know how to tank.

Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
For better and for worders, it heat culture is real.
I think it's a real thing. I'm with you, right,
Mark great Stuff.

Speaker 5 (01:02:34):
Thanks pal, I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
It is Mark Medina Medina magic every Saturday night, twelve
midnight on the Bernie Frattles Show. As you can see
clearly he has his finger on the pulse. He's our
Fox Sports Radio NBA guru. You hear them all around
the network. Coming up, we go back to football. You
may or may not have noticed. The NSC North put

(01:02:58):
three teams in the playoffs and it ended badly. The
Vikings got clowned on by the Rams, the Lions got
embarrassed frankly by the Commandos, and the Green Bay Packers
fought but fell well short in their playoff game as well. Well.

(01:03:19):
Jordan Love returns, no question there. Jored Goff returns, no
question there, but a name that you heard about a lot,
and then you didn't, and then you did, and now
you're hearing again Sam Donald. The Vikings have a genuine
dilemma with Sam Donald. And now there's lots of questions
after their wild card loss. Just what do the Vikings do?

(01:03:41):
I'll tell you what we think we know. Coming up,
I'm Bernie Fradda. We're come to your lion from the
Las Vegas Fox Sportsradio Tireck dot Com studios. Don't go away.
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, we are back on the Bernie Frattle Show.
My name is Bernie Fraddi. We're come to your lion
from the Lost Vegas Fox Sports Radio TIREC dot Com

(01:04:03):
studios here in Las Vegas. Will take you up to
three am Pacific, six am Eastern, just getting started. Lots
of stuff to get to and by the way, shortly
after the show, our podcast will be going up. If
you missed any of tonight's show, be sure to check
out the podcast. Just searched Fox Sports Radio The Bernie

(01:04:25):
Frattle Show wherever you get your podcasts. Be sure to follow,
rate and review the podcast. Again, just search Fox Sports
Radio wherever you get your podcasts. You'll see this show
posted right after we get off the air. Well, you know,
the Minnesota Vikings were having one hell of a season,
the Cinderella season. There were win total in Vegas was

(01:04:48):
six and a half. They blew past that. At one
point they were very much on the short list to
have the number one overall seat in the NFC. And
then all of a sudden, what looked like a light
at the end of the tunnel became an oncoming train.
The calendar turns to twenty twenty five, and I don't
know what happened, but you know, like the Beatles yesterday song,

(01:05:12):
you know something see much further away. First, Minnesota relinquished
the top seed in the NFC after getting you know,
the Lions rolled him like a stick horse in the
Sunday regular season finale, which seems like forever ago, but
then just its past Monday in the wildcard round, the

(01:05:32):
Vikings were completely you know, pull acts by the Rams
in Arizona. It's d Jevo all over again. Minnesota scored
just nine points in each of the last two games,
and then all of a sudden put the spotlight, a
white hot spotlight on the performance is Sam Darnald, who
signed it one year, ten million dollar contract with the

(01:05:54):
Vikings in March. Sam, there's no shortage of Sam Donald. Naysayers,
you know, take a ticket, get a line, try to
push your way to the front. I always liked Sam Donald,
thought he was in a couple of bad situations. I
thought he could play. I didn't predict this for him
with respect to the outstanding season he had at least

(01:06:14):
during the twenty twenty four calendar, but now his future
as the team's quarterback in Minnesota is very much being
called into question over that two game stretch against the
Rams and Lions. Donald was only forty three of eighty
one through one touchdown, was sacked eleven times, repeatedly held

(01:06:36):
the ball, missed targets, seemed to channel some of his
earlier days with Caroline and the Jets. But two games
is not a season make okay. But here's what's interesting.
Now we have part revisionist history, part reevaluation. Donald was
not expected to be the long term solution because the

(01:06:58):
Vikings drafted ja Aj McCarthy out of Michigan with a
number ten pick overall a month after they signed Donald.
But JJ McCarthy tore his meniscus during the preseason. Donald
goes on to have a career year. Now this is
a nice problem to have, right, He finished top five

(01:07:20):
in the NFL passing yards and touchdowns. And Kevin O'Connell, who,
for my money, the Viking said coach erstwhile offensive coordinator
of the Rams by Sean McVay side, helped them win
a Super Bowl set after that game Monday night, the
wildcard loss. Being the introspective smart guy that Kevin O'Connell

(01:07:41):
is said, quote, we have to consider Sam's body of
work when deciding on his future, and yeah you should,
because he hadn't been in high leverage games like that.
He played in a lot of football games, but not
like that. Maybe he builds from that. I don't know,
but here's your dilemma. You've got JJ McCarthy waiting in
the wings, and these are the options that the Vikings

(01:08:04):
now have with Sam Donald. As the Vikings are now
in their offseason, you can't rule out that Dave give
Sam Donald a long term deal. He is at least
a proven commodity if you can block out the last
two games. He's twenty seven years old. I think under

(01:08:27):
Kevin O'Connell's toolch he does have room to grow. He's
at least a mid range starting quarterback based on what
he's proven in the twenty twenty fourth season, which means
what a mid range quarterback, four year deal one hundred
and sixty million. That would be the best long term
deal Sam Donald could hope for. If you did that,

(01:08:49):
do you dare you? Do you dare? Trade JJ McCarthy,
who could potentially command another first round pick in the
open market. Consider considering that this quarterback class I don't
think is very good, may not be bad. They may
prove me wrong. Cam Ward, Okay, I get it. I

(01:09:11):
like Shootoor Sanders. I don't love Shootdoor Sanders. I'd rather
have JJ mccarthur than either of those two guys. Do that,
which you will talk amongst yourselves. But that's one option,
you say, hell with it. We got to prove and
commodity here do we really want to start over? Who
won fourteen games? For crying out loud? Give Sam Donald
a four year, one hundred and sixty million dollar range.
Let's grow from there. We'll move on from McCarthy. Oh,

(01:09:34):
by the way, we get back big time draft capital.
I believe. I believe it would bring back the first
round pick. I do or if you are uncertain not,
I mean unlike a dollar bill in the show Billions.
Who is not uncertain? Maybe you are uncertain about Sam Donald?
You could franchise tagging. Then that would allow the Vikings

(01:09:57):
to test the waters year guaranteed deal of about forty
one million dollars. That would be more than twice as
much then Donald has made in any NFL season. It's
a good deal for him. I think then that gives
the Vikings the flexibility and the option of training Sam

(01:10:18):
Donald if they, if they should so desire. But if
they chose to keep him, well, now you know the
team is sort of in a state of limbo because
you've got him and McCarthy and you know you've only
got Donald for one year, and what do you do? Right,
what do you do? And in the quarterbacks the most

(01:10:39):
important position in sports, it's the thinnest position in all
of sports, so many fail or do you dare let
Sam Donald just simply walk? In theory? In theory, now
Minnesota could let Sam Donald go and just simply hand

(01:10:59):
the keys to j McCarthy, Which is I think if
people were looking into a crystal ball last March, they
speculated that that's what was going to happen, that Donald
would merely be a placeholder for JJ McCarthy. And fast
forward to February of twenty twenty five, and McCarthy's your

(01:11:23):
guy and Donald moves on. But then you know, fate intervened,
McCarthy got hurt, and Donald went on to have a
huge season, all right, And the thing you have to
ask yourself too, right, it's one thing to have potential
and be projectable. It's another thing to have done it.
Don't disavow jjit Sam Donald did this year. He had

(01:11:45):
a damn good year. Okay. And you have another angle
about JJ McCarthy that you also can't shove under the rug.
He's got to come back from a fairly serious knee injury,
all right. And the other thing is, do you know
for a fact that JJ McCarthy is ready to be
handed the keys of the car just because he looked
good in one preseason game. I know he didn't put

(01:12:08):
up gaudy numbers at Michigan, but he was an ass
toute he didn't need to. That doesn't mean he's not capable.
You heard me in my opening commentary about playing the
position with your eyes. McCarthy's good enough to do that.
He's athletic enough to do that. And whenever the situation
demanded that he come up with a clutch throw and
thread the needle, he did it more than once. So
he's got my attention. JJ McCarthy very much has my attention,

(01:12:30):
But I don't know if he's ready to take over.
And I don't know how you come back. He made
very well come back from that serious kne injury without
a hitch or not. You don't, you don't know, all right,
Justin Jefferson refused to weigh in. He's clearly the team's
biggest star. He's signed the largest contract of any wide receiver,

(01:12:54):
four years, one hundred and forty million, and he went
on to say, it's not my job to say is
going to be the quarterback? Or who do I want
to be the quarterback? Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but
maybe he just wants to stay out of it. I
don't blame the dude, all right. Coming up, one of

(01:13:14):
the hottest names in the coaching carousel now that certainly
Mike Grabel has gone, is the inimitable Ben Johnson. Well,
no one saw this coming. I sure as hell didn't.
Not that the Commandos don't very much deserve their victory
and what took place at Ford Fields Saturday night. But

(01:13:35):
now Ben Johnson is a free man. What does the
Ben Johnson timeline look like? You may get a kick
out of this because it all started back on January sixth,
and now we're back, we're up to January nineteenth, and
I got to tell you, my god, it's a cockamami system.
But I don't know how the hell lets you do it.

(01:13:55):
The best candidates are always working in January because they've
had success and they're in the playoffs. I mean, other
than you know, Mike Variable, and I'm gonna get to
Pete Carroll, litter and hell or even John Gruon's name
is even in the mix. But you know, it's the
Ben Johnson's, it's the Aaron Glenn's, it's the Brian Floyd.
These guys are working, they made the playoffs. But the

(01:14:16):
Ben Johnson timeline is intriguing to me because it's been
sort of banned about, you know, not only the hottest candidate,
which they've been saying from here to Mars for various reasons.
And Tom Brady appears to want him badly. Apparently he
could have had his pick of three or four jobs,
and he could have last year, and he's picky. I

(01:14:38):
think Ben Shotson on to turn the tables and stay
in Detroit. He likes it there, man, he likes it there.
We'll dive into that coming up. I'm Bernie Frattle. We're
come to line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
Tarreck dot Com Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back at the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come
to line from Tara at dot com Studios here, Las Vegas. Well,

(01:15:02):
Ben Johnson is now a free man. What do I
mean by that? He can interview to his heart's delight.
So far, he's had virtual interviews with the Raiders, the
Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Bears. I believe he previously interviewed
with the New England Patriots, but that job went to
Mike Vrabel and Johnson is now officially in Phase one,

(01:15:26):
basically focusing on the task at hand because the Lions
are done. It's funny though, because we didn't I didn't
see this coming, and this whole thing started January sixth,
That was the day after the Lions smoked the Vikings.
His official candidacy began with the Bears, Patriots, Jaguars. They

(01:15:48):
already quested interviews and Albert Bear Sports Illustrated reported that
Johnson would not take an interview unless he intends to
pursue the job. So, you know, starting January ninth, he
had a window of three days to do his you know,
you know, his first virtual interviews, which lines gain permission

(01:16:09):
to do, and then you know the lines that weren't
in the wildcard round because they were the number one seed.
But it gets this is such a convoluted, tedious process.
These interviews are three to five hours. I know they
start virtual and then the future interviews in person. They're
very involved. You start talking philosophy. You know your decision

(01:16:34):
making process, your technical discussions, quarterback evaluations, player and roster evaluations.
You know you're planning. You have to sell a team
on how you're going to put together as staff. Might
you keep holdovers on the current staff on the payroll? Right?
And I think you have to be prepared to evaluate

(01:16:56):
scouting reports, understand the cap situation the team has, and
then they're very much feeling you out and picturing and
projecting when you walk into the building. You have that
ability to command the room. Right, If you can't command
the room in the interview, you're not going to command
the room when you're sitting in front of fifty three guys.

(01:17:17):
So these are very you know, convoluted situations. And while
Ben Johnson was trying to navigate what he was going
to do against the commandos and Sir Sure as I
would like to have that gadget play Jamison and Williams
through terrible pass. So you're a playoff bound coach and

(01:17:38):
you prepare for these interviews during your off hours, but
you do it you don't want to interfere with your
current role. Well, we already knew Detroit's opponent. On the fourteenth.
Today's January nineteenth, the Lions hosted the lowest seeded NFC
team and lost. So now Ben Johnson can go interview
to his heart's to light. And had the you know,

(01:18:00):
played next week, there would have been some limitations. Had
they made it to the super Bowl, there would have
been limitations. Although you can there are stipulations where even
if you're in the super Bowl, you can send a
new contract. But listen, one of Ben Johnson's things his
organizational alignment with the coach in GM, and he wants

(01:18:20):
recognition from what's gone wrong from the teams. This appears
to be what Tom Brady may be allowing him to have.
So you're going to bring in a guy who's never coached.
He's gonna have to stay in the new GM. I
don't know, man, but it's good to be Ben Johnson.
We'll see where this thing ends up, because he sure
earned the right to do this. But now all of
a sudden reality sits in and the rubber hits the road,

(01:18:44):
and it ain't so easy. Come it up. Who should
replace Mike McCarthy in Dallas? There's actually ten candidates. Keep
it locked. Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Well that's right,
you heard the man. Bernie Fradle Show keeps rolling right along.
My name is Bernie Fraderwick. Come to life from the
Tarack dot com studios here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,

(01:19:10):
tyrat dot com. I'll help you get there. That match
selection fans, free shipping for your road hazard protection, and
over ten thousand recommended installers tyreq dot com the way
TYR buying should be. Well, even if you've been under
a rock or living under Mars or living in Mars
or something like that, you all know by now that

(01:19:31):
the Mike McCarthy era is over in Dallas, not up
in here. And I got to tell you the Dallas
fandom faithful folks wasted no time in weighing in. No
less than ninety four percent of respondence to a survey
done by The Athletic said there is the franchise's lost.

(01:19:52):
There's no reason for hope. They're just not sure what
to think anymore. Only six percent without the cop Boys
were making the right decision. Now, you know how I
feel about Mike McCarthy. I got no b for them.
I called him Barney Rubble because in the high leverage
situations in the playoffs, when it mattered most and the
heat was hot and it's hard to breathe. And you

(01:20:14):
see other highly capable coaches that seem to navigate through
situational football when when the games matter do much better. McCarthy,
you know, forever looked like the guy wandering them all
parking lot, couldn't figure out where the hell he parked
his car. Yes, good regular season coach, Yes, good with players,
good with people. Jerry desperately wants to win a Super Bowl,

(01:20:37):
or maybe he doesn't anymore. I don't know. I don't
really know what he wants anymore. I'm not a Jerry
Jones basher. You can do that yourself. But at the
same time, all right, you have to question whether or not,
uh there's hope in Dallas anymore for to be to
be legitimate contender, because no, no, you know, no sooner

(01:20:59):
did Mike McCarthy hit the road. And it's my understanding
that Jerry got caught with his pants down a little
bit here. He thought he was gonna be able to
retain McCarthy, and whatever he was offered, it wasn't enough
for McCarthy. And I don't think McCarthy was keen about
having Jason Whitten on staff. Whatever the case may be,
the Twains shall not meet. McCarthy moved on, and I

(01:21:22):
think Jerry, honestly, I really think Jerry thought that he
was holding the cards here, that if you wanted McCarthy back,
he was going to get him. Well, that didn't happen.
So what did you do? He pivots to here comes
the group think echo chamber, But this story has legs. Okay,
And in the survey among Dallas readers asking whether or

(01:21:46):
not Dion Okay, you moved on from McCarthy, Do you
move on to Dion Sanders huh it because it's good
for our business. I love it in a big way.
I love Dion. I would love to see what this

(01:22:08):
looks like, fully believing that it would be an abject
failure because Dean won't have any control. It's not like
Colorado where he could bring in players, and he could
bring in Travis Hutter and bring in his son through
you know, the nil and transfer portal. You can literally
remake your roster. Demom, we can't do that in the NFL.
And when Dion's teams played opponents who had lesser athletes,

(01:22:33):
Colorado took care of business when he did, and Colorado
didn't look so good. Well, in the NFL, they're all
about the same. You give me a fifty three man roster,
and I will guarantee you fifty to fifty three of
those two teams are this. I'm holding my fingers one
centimeter apart. And then the better teams have two or
three transcending players and that's it. So when asked in

(01:22:56):
a survey amongst Cowboy fans whether Dallas'd seriously consider making
Dion Sanders their next head coach, seventy eight percent of
the respondent said no, No, twenty two percent Yeah, what
the hell? Bringing on the circus right, They're thought, Well,
if anybody can handle the spotlight and stand up to

(01:23:17):
Jerry Jones, it's the ever confident, world class athlete, media
savvy coach Prime. Tell me you wouldn't want to see that.
One reader said, quote, he can't argue with results. People
were ready to laugh at him struggling at Colorado. Instead,
look what he did. That's fair. They won one game

(01:23:37):
two years ago and he made them a national item.
Good on Dion. Another reader said, say what you want,
but Dion backed up his talk just about everywhere he's gone.
I completely agree with that. As a player, no two
ways about it. Hell, even back in what was it
eighty nine when he was drafted he didn't want to
go to the Lions. He got his wish up getting

(01:24:00):
drafted by Atlanta. Dion was cool. Then he said, you know,
it's a good thing the Lions didn't draft me, that
it had to put me on lay a way to
afford me. Dion has always backed it up. But all
of a sudden, when you're gracing an NFL sideline and
dealing with grown men who make millions of dollars, you're
just simply not going to have that same fatherly influence

(01:24:22):
that you had on college players. It's just not again
acknowledging the success he had a Colorado. The season that
you know, before Sanders got there, they were one and
eleven worst team in college football. Worse program in college football, maybe,
but he brought along Travis Hunter, who won the Heisman.
He brought along his son Shudor. They were nine to

(01:24:44):
four and twenty twenty four, and they were impressive, relatively speaking.
Most of the readers had fell in the seventy eight percent. Says,
come on, please be serious. You cannot have this conversation
without referencing Dion Sanders laughing experience. He said, five years
as a college head coach, right, three in Colorado, two

(01:25:06):
at in HBCU, schooled none of the pros. And there
isn't gonna be any hoopla bringing the shoot or centers
over there. Locked into Dak Prescott, you move on from him,
you're gonna ta one hundred million dollar cap head. There
isn't gonna be There's gonna be a packaged deal. So
the reality of it is why you know, the Chicago

(01:25:27):
Bears are interviewing everybody except they had Gibber and maybe
they're even going to interview him. I mean, I'm hearing
they're even gonna interview Eddie George now, and I love
Adie George and he's had a good success at Tennessee State,
But what are we doing I mean in the National
Football League, if you're a dumpster fire like the Bears,
even though you've got draft capital and you've got cap

(01:25:52):
room and all kinds of things. I'm telling you, man,
I saw this in Detroit, Honest to god. I cover
the team for ten years in an official capacity from
ninety eight to eight. When I first got there, it
was Wayne Fonce, and you know, he'd laughed, clown laughed.
But the Lions made the playoffs what six times in
the nineties. They can never get over the hump though
Wayne Fonce got booted out of there. They brought in

(01:26:13):
Bobby Ross, one of my favorites. Bobby'd won it in Maryland,
He'd won at Georgia Tech, got the San Diego Chargers
to their only Super Bowl nineteen ninety five. I love
the dude. He hated Detroit and hated what was going
on there. He quit when they were five and four.
They bring in Gary Moeller as an interim, who might
very well have done a good job, but they lost

(01:26:34):
that game to the Bears, and everybody cleaned house. And
they brought into legendary Matt Millen, who was fifty games
under five hundred. He proceeds to hire Marty morning With
because Bill Walsh recommended him. You know what happened with
Marty Morningway. He didn't last They brought in Steve Merriucci.
I love Mooch. Him and Millan didn't get along. Mooch

(01:26:54):
got fired Thanksgiving Day two thousand and five after they
lost Uh, Rob park Er and I'm Stephen A. Smith
name drop. We're having dinner at Fishbones that night. Rob
broke the news. He was right, and Dick Churon became
the interim and I liked Dickcharon. I actually wanted to
him get a shot. And well what happened next to

(01:27:15):
the My partner Mark Wilson said he can't sell that
press conference. You got to make us splash, So sure
as hell, Matt Millan made one and he hired Rob
Marinelli last year. I could with the team they were
on in sixteen. So he went from Wayne Fonce to
Bobby Ross to Gary Moehler to Marty morning Wegg to

(01:27:37):
Dick Guron interim check that Mardy morning Wag to Steve
Marriucci to Dick Youeron interim to Rod Marrile, Maryonelli. That's
six coaches in ten years. This ain't so easy, is it,
which is why you think the Conboys might take this
a little more serious. You don't have to go eighte
like the Bears are and interview everybody from Adams Abada Zanzibar.

(01:28:00):
But there are three guys they really should be talking to. Well,
they were already talking to Kellen Moore. What's the old saying,
you can't go home. Kellen Moore was once very highly
thought of in Dallas. I thought he was going to
be the coaching waiting there. His first year calling plays
for Dak Prescott led to the best success Dak Prescott

(01:28:22):
has ever had, and all of a sudden, Kellen Moore
was drawing favorable comparisons to Sean McVay. Now I'm keep
in mind, Kellen Moore was a hell of a quarterback
at Boise State when they had great teams. Here's how
great they are. Alabama didn't want to play him. That's
a fact. You go to the blue field, Chris Peterson.
Those were good teams with the NFL players, Kellen Moore
had a little bit more in a cup of coffee

(01:28:43):
as a left handed quarterback in the National Football League.
But he's not Sean McVay because after that he was
very inconsistent, and all of a sudden something happened where
Kellen Moore had a mutual split from Mike McCarthy and
he ended up with the Chargers the next season more
and it didn't go well at all. But now Kellen

(01:29:05):
Morris running the offense for the NFC team, I believe,
and I believed it before Saturday Night, that would end
up in the Super Bowl. That's the Philadelphia Eagles. They're
having a great year. Sakwon Barkley felt just short of
breaking Eric Dickinson's record. And it's my understanding that Jalen
Hurts the guy I've been a fan of ever since
he was at Alabama and Oklahoma. Loved the guy. He's

(01:29:26):
had his ups and downs, though Moore has been a
great influence, a quarterback whisper, kind of a calming presence
for Jalen Hurts. These things matter, so all of a sudden,
now Kellen Moore is right back in the thick of
the coaching cycle. He's gotten multiple interview requests, and of
course that's going to depend on how far the Eagles
go in the playoffs, which they're already going pretty far.

(01:29:47):
See if they beat the Rams tomorrow, Saturday, later today,
excuse me. And I think it's perceived that Kellen Moore
has grown since his departure from the Dallas Cowboys. Another
selling point if you can plug Kellen Moore away from Philadelphia,

(01:30:08):
who seemed to be on the verge of going in
the river before Kellen Moore arrived about a year ago.
You know, one time Kellen Moore was seen as a
prodigal son for Jerry Jones. I understand he if I
had a gun to my head. I think he's going
to be the next Cowboys coach. I do, which had
also forced the Eagles to tire their fourth offensive coordinator

(01:30:31):
in as many years. But you don't hear as much
about that. By the way, the Cowboys fans, as part
of the survey, had Kellen Moore at the top of
their list. Second on their list was Ben Johnson. I
know of no situation where Ben Johnson and the Cowboys
are going to even talk. And I don't think Ben
Johnson would give a flying horses petwot about going to
Dallas because he's got real concerns about the linkage and

(01:30:55):
the connection and the kindred spirit you'd have with the
front office. So there's Kellen Moore. Another guy I think
that they should be talking to or inviting is Cliff Kingsbury. Again, laugh,
clown laugh. You sit back and watch the Commanders, who
were led by Dan Quinn, former coach. Who's with the Cowboys?

(01:31:17):
They're going bananas. They beat the Buccaneers Sunday night, first
playoff win in nineteen years. Now, they beat the Lions
in fine fashion. And who's in the center of it.
Jane Daniels. And who's in the center of that their
offensive coordinator. Cliff Kingsbury is the architect of Washington's offense.
By the way, Cliff Kingsbury is also a Texas native,

(01:31:37):
played at Texas Tech. He had head coaching experience both
college and NFL, obviously having a lot of success in Dallas.
Whether you like Kingsbury or not, he checks a lot
of boxes. I know he's got a lot of questions too.
The air raid offense never had good defenses at Texas Tech,
and his offenses with Arizona never fully clicked in place.

(01:31:59):
They would fall off towards the end of the season. Okay,
every coach, he's going to have questions. But that's why
you interview to find him out they interviewed these things
to find out. Don't you know, I'm gonna mention another
name now, and this guy needs to get a lot
more respect than he's getting. And I'm talking about Pete
Carroll now. A month ago it would have seemed laughable,

(01:32:23):
but Pete Carroll has clearly become a key name in
the coaching cycle. The Seahawks pushed Carol out the door.
Carol wants back in the NFL. It's my understanding. He's
talked to both the Bears and the Raiders, and both
of them would be wise to bring in a Pete Carroll.
He's been there, done that. His history is as good
as it gets. Won a national championship at USC takes

(01:32:45):
the Seahawks job, turns him into a mini dynasty. Seattle
went to the Super Bowl and consecutive seasons he won one. Yes,
they had to lead you to boom defense. That's because
Caroll knows a thing or two about defense, and nobody had.
Russell Wilson has ever done as well under anybody as
he did under Pete Carroll. Pete Carroll's a culture builder,

(01:33:07):
positivity energy, He turns around cultures. His enthusiasm, frankly is
infectious and he does have a defensive mind. And when
Pete Carroll implements something, his trends over, you know, sort
of find their way of permeating throughout the NFL. And
what's interesting is Carol also has a little history with

(01:33:30):
the last two Cowboys coaches to win a ring, one
of just three coaches to win the Super Bowl International Championship.
I get it. When the season starts next year, Carol
will turn seventy four. Is that a problem for you?
It's only a problem if you can't do the damn job.
He can do the job. The question is will he
be taken seriously? Now we can throw Joe Brady in there.

(01:33:54):
Joe Brady was Ben Johnson. Before Ben Johnson, He's the
Bills offensive coordinator. He gained a lot of fame for
helping lead that elite LSU offense that put Joe Burrow
into the stratosphere. That got him the Panthers offensive coidinator
job at er Matt Ruhle. But Brady was fired in
a second season. He then lands in Buffalo as Josh
Allen's quarterback coach, and now he's the coordinator and he's

(01:34:18):
one of two front runners. I think for the MVP
Josh Allen, of course, and Joe Brady has a lot
to do with that right now. I understand Joe Brady's
getting significant interests from other teams, including the New Orleans Saints.
That's where Brady coached before he went to LSU, And
there's concern about hiring offensive coordinators for free quarterbacks. But

(01:34:40):
that said, Brady has long regarded among NFL circles as
having a great offensive mine even before he teamed up
with Josh Allen. What could he do with Dak Prescott?
I don't know. And here's another issue, thirty five years old?
Is he ready? You don't know? But why hell aren't

(01:35:00):
the Why the hell aren't the Cowboys talking to some
of these guys? Or am I mixed up? Are they?
And I missed it? I don't think Aaron the bloom
is off Aaron Glenn's rose after what happens Saturday night.
There's been too many, too many injuries on that defense,
right and Ben Johnson's getting all the buzz. But don't
go to sleep on Aaron Glenn, who's also got a

(01:35:23):
history with the Cowboys. He's from Houston. He played for
two seasons under Bill Parcells and Mike Zammer and Dallas.
By the way, Aaron Glenn has built a very strong
coaching resume. He's developed a lot of star defensive backs.
He developed players with the Saints before joining Dan Campbell
with the Lions. And remember those two played together in college.

(01:35:46):
And there's no question that you know, you look at
this Lion's culture that is really robust, and it's really exciting.
And I know the stench of what happens Saturday night
is going to linger for a while, but I still
think that future for the Lions is bright. They'll get
those injured defensive players back next year and they'll still
have a great offense, and they'll still have that culture.

(01:36:09):
And Aaron Glenn has been integral to that culture. You
got Dan Campbell, he's the chief cook and bottle washer.
You got Ben Johnson running the offense, but you got
Aaron Glenn running the defense. And as you heard him
saying a sound bite the other day, you hire me,
you're not just getting a defensive coach. I know offense too,
You're getting a coach. Aaron Glenn has improved that defense

(01:36:30):
every year he's been there. He's a rising star. Listen
to the guy talk. He's a natural born leader. He's
interviewed for lots of jobs long before he went to Detroit,
and I think he's ready to be a head coach now.
He already interviewed with the Jets, where he spent eight
years of his career. He's interviewed with the Saints. Both
are very interested in him. I like the stability that

(01:36:53):
Aaron Glenn would would would bring to Dallas. You're gonna
dick around with Dion Sanders, You're gonna you're gonna room
or Kellen Moore. Why not Aaron Glenn? Why are you
not talking to Aaron Glenn? And while we're on what
I consider to be hard ass, strong, good defensive coordinators
in football coaches, the Cowboys should be talking to Brian

(01:37:14):
Flores all right. Two years with the Vikings, Flores completely
turned that defense around from one of the worst in
the league to arguably the very best in Minnesota. Won
fourteen games this year largely on this drink of that defense.
Flores also has had head coaching experience. This is important.

(01:37:35):
He's with the Dolphins for three years. Did you know
that Brian Flores became the first Dolphins coach in twenty
years to post consecutive winning season, but he was still
fired in a controversial move and that led Flores to
sue the Dolphins in the NFL. That's not good, I think,

(01:37:56):
but the lawsuit is still ongoing, but it has to stop.
Flores still be in a hot commodity. Why the hell
you aren't the Cowboys offering you talk to Floris? Or
are they? So? The biggest question for Flores, I get
is a relationship with the quarterback because it's firing in Miami.
There was allegedly situations that implied there was a toxic

(01:38:17):
relationship with Tua. And we all know that Brian Flores
is a very intense guy. I'ver a demanding guy. But
there's also talk that he's interaction with Kevin O'Connell has
helped Flores to develop a more middle of the road approach.
By the way, Flores has a great relationship with Josh Braccown,
a guy knew a little bit in Detroit. He's a

(01:38:38):
quarterbacks coach, also a Texas native who I think is
ready to be an offensive coordinator. So Aaron Glenn, Brian Flores,
Pete Carroll, Joe Brady, Cliff Kingsbury. Okay, Kellen Moore, and
I like Kellen Moore, but you let him out the
door once. Do we have to mention Todd Monka or

(01:39:01):
the Ravens an offensive coordinator again, another brilliant offensive mind.
Players rave about him. Would Dallas take a chance on him?
I don't know, mate. You know, people call Jerry Jones
the worst donor in football. He will never hear me
say that he's had too much of a positive impact
in the NFL and he you know, he has won

(01:39:24):
you know, three Super Bowls. I get the last one
was thirty years ago with Barry Switzer using Jimmy Johnson's players.
I get it. But you know, between the stadium he's
built and all the you know, all the situations where
you have where he's made the other NFL owners a

(01:39:44):
ton of money. Okay, I don't think you could just
ignore the fact that he's had a positive impact on
the league. But it's always going to be overshadowed because,
let's face it, he just moved on from a coach
that I had a lot of defenders, Mike McCarthy. McCarthy
won sixty three percent of his games. He had a

(01:40:06):
point differential of over one hundred and twenty five and
three straight seasons that hadn't happened in Dallas since Jimmy
Johnson was there. Three playoff appearances. It took Jason Garrett
ten years to do that. Those are his pluses. But
he was never going to win a Super Bowl, all right.
He did win one single wildcard matchup loss th other
three postseason games, including that ugly loss to the seventh
seed Green Bay last year. But Jerry Jones, and only

(01:40:29):
Jerry Jones inevitable fashion, by the laying this decision for
eight days, it is now appearing that he's handling this
as poorly as possible. Meanwhile, McCarthy apparently now is somewhat
of an attractive candidates. Talked to the Bears, well Saints.
We'll see where he ends up. Looks like he's going
to get a job. But I want to go back.

(01:40:50):
I want to digress for just a second. Pete Carroll's
name has come up, But as Pete Carroll really a
legitimate candidate in this coaching cycle for another NFL job,
let's unpack that. Coming up. I'm Bernie Fraddle. We're coming
to you line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio

(01:41:10):
Tirack dot com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back at the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come
to line from the tyrac dot com studios here in
Las Vegas. We are twenty nine minutes away from the
dance sensation sweeping the nation. What kind of brand new

(01:41:32):
fool of you? Followed by what my name? SHAWL like this?
I got a doozy of a brand new fool and
we're going back to Florida. Oh, it's always a doozy
when we go back to Florida. Plenty of new fresh
names too in the what my Name segment? All right,
Pete Carroll has interest in coaching in the NFL again

(01:41:53):
next season, and he secured a couple of interviews. He
talked to the Chicago Bears a couple weeks ago. I
think he talked to the Raiders is recently. The interest
is somewhat mutual because people are talking to him. Let's
we forget Carroll was the head coach of the Seahawks
from twenty ten to twenty twenty three, and I think
a lot of folks were a little surprised when the

(01:42:17):
team pushed him out given the success Carroll had, Seahawks
won a championship under Caroll in twenty thirteen, got back
to the Super Bowl the following year. We all know
what happened. Maybe they should have run the ball with
Marshawn Lynch. If the play works, you're a hero. If
a dozen, you're a village idiot. But other than that blemish,
let's face it, Pete Carroll's legacy is secure. He wanted

(01:42:39):
to keep his job of the Seahawks. Seattle chose the
part ways and they went with Mike McDonald's, a thirty
seven year old defensive guy. Seattle went ten and seven
in their first season, but did not make the playoffs.
Carol's coached over three hundred games in the NFL Okay
and he in Seattle, he was forty nine games over

(01:42:59):
five hundre and in his fourteen seasons missed the playoffs
or made the playoffs ten out of fourteen years. No
one else has done that in Seattle. So here's the question.
He's Pete Carroll a legitimate candidate for an NFL who
head coaching job. He's sure as hell should be. Is

(01:43:20):
he a legitimate candidate to get a job during this cycle?
He did an interview with the Bears. I guess what
about a week ago, and then he spent a lot
of last Monday afternoon at the Raiders headquarters in he
you know, I said a minute ago he should be

(01:43:41):
on the Cowboys radar. You never know what they're what
they're going to do. But look, there are offshore betting
sites that put up odds as to the realistic you know,
probabilities or possibility of landing a job with vacancies. But

(01:44:04):
Pete Carroll is actually the third favorite on the list
to become the Raiders head coach. He's listed to two
to one. But hell, this betting set at Dion Sanders,
He's got no chance to get in the Bear's job.
Ben Johnson. Oh, he's listed behind Ben Johnson. Carroll is
also the third favorite to become the Bear's next head coach.
They've got him at four to one, which is behind

(01:44:25):
Ben Johnson and Mike McCarthy. And right now it looks
like Ben Johnson and Mike McCarthy are the two hottest commodities,
as it were number one favorites for various jobs. If
they all get hiring is hired, as these odds suggest,
there could theory theoretically be one spot open for Pete Carroll.

(01:44:49):
Pete Carroll checks a lot of boxes. I think he
should be considered. I think he can do the job.
This is not a guy that's going to have to
learn how to do the his job while he's learning
the job. But the funny thing about these NFL coaching
cycle you know this kubookie dance we do every year,

(01:45:09):
and right now there are seven opening well there's six openings.
McCarthy vacated. He wasn't fired, They just didn't renew him.
Jerry tried to and you know, maybe this is what
needed to happen. Frankly, I think it did. You can
bring back McCarthy next year, and I guarantee you there
would have been a point in time, juncture in the
season when somebody would have said, Okay, what are we doing.
We've seen this act before. Get something different. But you know,

(01:45:33):
I always sort of have these secret wishes and hopes
for NFL teams, and sometimes even in college whereby you
say to yourself, well, who do I think they're going
to hire? But who do I kind of secretly wish
they hire? That would make it so much better for

(01:45:56):
radio guys talking in this business. All right. There are
six NFL teams right now searching for head coaches, and
everybody's a critic, I guess, including me. You know, the
Jets are looking for our coach. You get the Jets,
the Bears, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Saints, the Raiders, and
the Cowboys. They still got time to focus on their searches. Okay,

(01:46:20):
Remember go back to last January. There were eight openings.
Six of the hires didn't take place until after January
twenty second, and the last one took place on February first.
So as we sit here today is January nineteenth. I
don't look for anything to start really happening in a
big way till later this week. But again, Ben Johnson's

(01:46:41):
a free man, so if Tom Brady wants him bad
enough for the Raiders. Right And by the way, the
previous coaching cycles in twenty two and twenty three were
you know, lasted longer than that. Well endo February all right,
So let's start with this Chicago Bears, and let's have
a little fun game here. Who do I think they'll hire?

(01:47:08):
But who do I wish they would hire? That it's
best for our business. And they've already interviewed four offensive
coordinators somebody, Drew Petsing, Ben Johnson, Arthur Smith, Mike Kafka.
They've interviewed four defensive coordinators, Anthony Weaver, Aaron Glenn Vance,
Joseph Brian Flores. They've interviewed four former head coaches McCarthy,

(01:47:28):
Ron Rivera. I like Ron Rivera, but I think when
it comes to being a head coach, you sew what
happened he left Washington, and you sew it. Dan Quinsta,
you might be better off with the Heraldo Rivera, Mike Rabel,
he's already spoken forward New England, and then you've already
heard me talk about Pete Carroll, by the way, not
to be you know. They interviewed a couple of college

(01:47:49):
coaches too, Matt Campbell from Iowa State and David Shaw,
And they interviewed the assistant Thomas Brown, who graced the
sidelines the last few games after Matt Eberflus has fired.
Apparently they've they're going to or they have and they're
going to extend invitations to Todd Mankan Joe Brady, Cliff Kingsbury,
and Adam Stenovich. And there's even Tako Marcus Freeman. No,

(01:48:15):
I don't think Marcus Freeman's going anywhere. I think he's
just a perfect fit there at Notre Dame. But you know,
Kevin Warren, Ryan Poles, there could be some synergy there, right.
I just don't. I just don't see it happening. I
don't see it happening. My gut tells me when push

(01:48:38):
comes to shove, they're probably gonna hire or at least
offer the job to Mike McCarthy because he had success
with Aaron Rodgers at least statistically had some success during
the regular season with Dak Prescott, So could he do

(01:48:59):
that with Caleb Williams. Right, Carthy does have one hundred
and eighty five wins. For me, I have no idea
if McCarthy would have success in Chicago. They do have
cap space, they do have draft capital, they do have
a quarterback. He's the higher i'd like to see in

(01:49:22):
Chicago because I think it's good for my business, Okay,
I just do. I think it opens the door for frivolity,
and we like frivolity. On the other hand, Mike McCarthy
turned the tables on all of us. Remember three NFCD
North teams just went to the playoffs this year and
we boasted about I mean mc goody had three teams

(01:49:43):
in thirteen games and they all got smoked into playoffs.
Things can turn around quickly. Would they end with the
Bears highly unlikely? Would they ender Mike McCarthy are only unlikely?
But there's a story to be had there and I'm
finding it. So if I could wave my magic wand
bring out McCarthy to Chicago. Yeah, Now, the Jacksonville Jaguars,

(01:50:04):
one of what four teams did never go to the
Super Bowl, along with the Lions, Browns, and Texans. Shot
Con has decided who ball account seems to be a
pretty good dude. You've got Trevor Lawrence. Apparently they're going
to retain their GM, Trent Balkey. They've already. They've also

(01:50:24):
interviewed for offensive coordinators Kellen Moore, Todd Monk and Liam
Cohen who doesn't get enough run he's a stud in
Tampa Bay, and Ben Johnson. They've also interviewed Spagnolo, Aaron Glenn,
Brian Flores. Defensive coordinators. Robert Sala is a guy. I
will bet a nickel that Robert sala ends up as

(01:50:46):
the next defensive coordinator for the forty nine ers. Be
a great fit for both sides. Why not, it's I
think it's a match made in heaven. I would get
a kick out of it, though, if the Jacksonville Jaguars
hired Robert Sawa as their head coach, but the hire
I'd really like to see. I'd like to see Brian

(01:51:09):
Flores get the job in Jacksonville. Now. He had a
three year run coach in the Dolphins that produced two
winning seasons, no playoff appearances, and a lot of hurt feelings. Okay,
and Flores stopped a little short of publicly apologizing for
his treatment of Tua, which was criticized as very harsh.

(01:51:34):
He seems to have rebuilt his persona, his image during
his two year run with the Vikings alongside Kevin O'Connell.
And even if Flores Dole has tamped down some of
his hard ass behavior, what Brian Flores really would bring
to Jacksonville is a new level of toughness an accountability.

(01:51:59):
He'd bring the edge said at one time that organization
had they were just in the playoffs a couple of
years ago. I think Brian Flores could fix that culture.
I think nothing against Doug Peterson. They became very laid back,
and I think he'd shake things up and it would
be good for our business to see Brian Flores back
on the sidelines with the Jacksonville Jaguars. By the way,

(01:52:22):
winking a nod to Vic Fangio, Fangio worked with Trent
Balkey in San Francisco. Those two formed quite a pair
under Jim Harbaugh that got to the Super Bowl, lost
to the Ravens back in twenty twelve, and when the
Eagles hired Vic Fangio, their defensive metrics improved dramatically. All right.

(01:52:44):
By the way, I know that Vic Fangio was they
head coach in Denver and their record was not great. However, However,
if you consider what he actually did with the quarterbacks,
he had the legendary Brett Rippin, Brandon Allen, Jeff driscoll.

(01:53:07):
I love Joe Flacco, but he was not good in Denver,
and Joe Flacco sold Now his blood types discontinued. They
even had to start a practice squad receiver in Kendall
Hinton at quarterback. Fangio actually, in some NFL circles it
was perceived to have overachieved in Denver even though they

(01:53:27):
were under five hundred. Do I think Jacksonville will hire him? No,
I'd like to see Brian Flories go there. Yeah, that's
good for our business. All right, back to the Cowboys.
So everybody knows that, you know, Jerry Jones has what
I call the Bobby Knight syndrome in droves, and that is,

(01:53:50):
you like the spotlight, You're unwilling to vacate the spotlight
even if it hurts your team. Bobby Knight admitted, I
think that he the spotlight. He missed the spotlight a
lot more than it missed him. So after leaving Indiana,
not of his own doing, he ended up a Texas

(01:54:11):
Tech of all places. But the Cowboys are the story here,
and I'm going to tell you what I think and
who I'd really like to see hired there. I'm Bernie Fraddle.
We're coming to line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Tireck dot Com studios. Keep it locked or listening
to the Bernie Fradle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back on the Bernie Fradle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Just
ten minutes away from the Dan Sensation sweep of the nation.

(01:54:32):
What kind of brand new fool of you, followed by
what my name? Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys top of the list,
king of the who all right. Executives from other NFL
teams and fans media alike all seem to agree that
Jerry Jones just does not want to give up the spotlight.

(01:54:55):
And Jones actually, you know, defended the way he handles,
the way he has, you know, presided over coaches who's
had seven now since Jimmy Johnson left because he told
his fellow owners that, hey, you guys have spent so
much time pissing away dead money for fired coaches. I

(01:55:16):
don't want to do that. He let McCarthy's contract aspire
thirty years ago when the Cowboys are rolling under Jimmy Johnson.
Jones made this mistake in February ninety four of opening
his mouth at a banquet, apparently so they could find
five hundred coaches that could have won with that team.
That comment said got back to Jimmy Johnson, and that

(01:55:38):
led to his departure. Seven coaches subsequently, Jerry Jones is hired.
Six produced winning records, but none has come close to
delivering another Super Bowl. So the question is, what is
Jerry Jones going to do. Now, what is he willing
to pay for his next coach? Who does he want

(01:55:58):
dragging out McCarthy's situation, may or man not of course,
Dallas some opportunities in the market. Maybe not. It's too early.
There's still guys out there, and I don't even know
if Dallas is really seeking the hottest candidates. They schedule interviews,
you know, they had Robert Sala, Kellen Moore, Leslie Frazer, YadA,
YadA ya. I think they're going to probably end up

(01:56:20):
with Kellen Moore. Let's face it, he's been there. He
played for the Cowboys coach the quarterbacks, offensive coordinator for
four years. The team ranked fifth and offensive VPA per play.
They were ten games over five hundred. Moore has history
with the Cowboys. It's safe. He's not going to talk back.
He'll assimilate into the Cowboys culture. He'd have a good

(01:56:42):
feel for the upside the downside. He knows Dallas. He's
played there, worked there, and again, he's not going to
give Jerry Jones any back talk. By the way, Moore's
having a hell of a year with the Eagles this year.
He's done a really good job with Jalen Hurts and
he's been influential think in helping create conditions to wear

(01:57:03):
sake one Barkley could flourish. He's probably who they're gonna hire.
Who do I want to see? Come on, man, this
isn't even close. How cool would it be? It's a circus?
You want to see spotlight? Could it shine enough on
Dion and Jerry Jones? Are you kidding me? This would

(01:57:25):
be so delicious to watch. Some people have said they're
made for each other. He got not one showman but two.
It's much watch TV whether they win, lose, or draw.
And I don't think they'd win. I don't think Dion's
built for that. I love Dion, He's a winner everywhere
he goes, but he wouldn't have the control to make
it happen. And he's already kicked out media members and

(01:57:46):
Boulder that didn't he didn't like. Well, the media in
Dallas is a little tougher than Bowler. What would it
look like if they didn't win? But even better, what
would it look like if they won? Can you imagine that?
Jerry and Dion? Please make it happen? Coming up? What
kind of brand new fool of you? And what my name?
Keep it locked or listen to the Bernie Frattle Show
Fox Sports Radio. Well, that's right, you heard the man.

(01:58:09):
Bernie Frattles Show keeps rolling right along. My name is
Bernie Fratto. We are coming to you live from the
tyrac dot com studios here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,
tyrac dot com. We'll help you get there. And on
matt Selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection and
over ten thousand recommending installers tyrac dot com. The way

(01:58:31):
tire buying should be. Well, we've come to that juncture
in the week. You know what, you love it? You
can't live without it, see because as you'll give you.
Every one said you can observe a lot by watching.
That's exactly what we do here on the Bernie Frattle Show.
Because around this great country of ours, from c to Oily,
SA and even around the globe, well, people are human.

(01:58:54):
They engage in behaviors. Sometimes these behaviors are silly, maybe innocuous,
but silly, questionable. Oftentimes they morph into things more serious,
perhaps illegal, run a foul of the lock, maybe land
you in jail. But any way you slice it, any
way you characterize it, and way you describe it. These
behaviors that people engage in, they always leave us scratching

(01:59:18):
our head and asking ourselves, what kind of brand new
fool are you? So?

Speaker 3 (01:59:28):
What kind of brand new fool are you?

Speaker 1 (01:59:32):
This one is one of the best ones I've ever had,
I think, because it just involves the level of lunacy
that's indescribable. Okay, we take it down to Chay's in
my favorite state, Florida, and we introduce you to a
lady by the name of Carlo. Now, I don't know
if anybody listening out here is ever called the police. Frankly,

(01:59:56):
I haven't, Okay, but if you do, I'm sure there
a real decorum. And if you call the police more
than once, or many times, or a lot of times,
it's to start to question what is your agenda. Let's
say hello to Carla. I'm not going to give her

(02:00:16):
last name. She was busted recently. Carlo is a fifty
year old woman, and she was busted because she'd been
placing what they described as a torrent of phone calls
to the Saint Petersburg Police Department at Panila County Sheriff's Office.
The complaint went onto alledge that she was harassing, belittling,

(02:00:46):
swearing at, arguing with police employees who answered their calls,
and the content of the calls were vulgar, threatening, obscene.
It contained extreme explsives, sexual nuendo, belittling remarks, all that stuff.
Here's where it gets fun. He can't make this up.

(02:01:08):
We could make it up, but why would you? Over
one twenty four hour period last month, Carla allegedly called
the police department are you ready? Five hundred and twelve
times wow? In a twenty four hour period. By the way,
on some of these occasions, Carla demanded that the officers

(02:01:31):
come to her residence and arrest her. Occasionally, the cops
would show up, and then she would go inside, refuse
to enter the door, and then she'd give the cops
the middle finger through the door. Now, in a bid
to get Carla to cease calling police officials who comparently

(02:01:51):
have shown the patients of job on this one, sent
a certified letter informing that further abuse of non emergency
line result in criminal chargers. But get Carlo, she slicks.
She dials from more than one number. She apparently ignored
the warning, prompting KA cops to arrest her on a

(02:02:14):
pair of misdemeanor counts. She was released from custody finally
after posting a four hundred dollars bond, but then she
was arrested again after continuing her phone harassment, even after
being arrested the time before. By the way, she's no piker.
Her criminal history includes multiple felony and mystery demeanor battery convictions,
and Carla apparently actually spent six years in state prison.

(02:02:39):
But here comes the punchline, and I always bring it.
It's always there. I told you she called the police
department a lot, but I bet you didn't know it
was eleven thousand times. Carla from Florida, who likes to
call the cops and insult them for reasons I'll never understand.
Call them times, Carla from Florida. What kind of brand

(02:03:03):
new fool are you? You gotta ad mid Shade. That's
one of the weirder ones we've had. That's saying a lot.

Speaker 6 (02:03:10):
Yeah, Carlo, sounds like my ex.

Speaker 1 (02:03:13):
Shane with the comedy Love It, look It.

Speaker 6 (02:03:17):
We do what we can, Bernie, we do what we can.

Speaker 1 (02:03:21):
The legendary shaeogenheck Folks o quay up for Shaky Green
and the Catskills Next week, but no Saturday.

Speaker 6 (02:03:29):
Unfortunately, I won't be in Florida, but mine is going
to be in San Antonio, Texas. I don't think we've
been there, at least I haven't.

Speaker 1 (02:03:36):
Been there yet. Oh I've been there, Rialk.

Speaker 6 (02:03:38):
Have you been to a Bill Miller barbecue?

Speaker 1 (02:03:42):
Not that I recall.

Speaker 6 (02:03:43):
So it's a thing out there. But unfortunately, not great
news for them because they are ordered to pay approximately
two point eight million in a Bexer County lawsuit for
serving dangerously hot barbecue sauce. According to a plantiffs lawyer,
money a woman sued Bill Miller Barbecue Enterprises for allegedly

(02:04:05):
serving the sauce that gave her second degree burns all
across her mouth. Genesis Menita filed the loss it in
October twenty twenty three in Bexter County District Courts, and
in May twenty twenty three, Monita and her sister went
to the restaurant located at Loop four to ten and
they went to order breakfast tacos to to drive through

(02:04:27):
and she ordered four tacos and barbecue sauce, and after
Monita paid, the clerk gave her the order in a
brown paper bag. Monita drove directly to a space in
the restaurant's parking lot to eat her breakfast. When Monita
took the container of barbecue sauce, it was so hot
that it caused her to drop the container and spilled
the sauce on her right thigh, causing a second degree burn.

(02:04:49):
Lawsuit also stated that Monita's injuries and damages were caused
by the restaurant's negligence for serving dangerously hot barbecue sauce
and failed to warn her it was hot, among other allegations,
and according to the lawsuit, Bill Miller's policy says they
served the barbecue sauce had one hundred and sixty five degrees,
but it was served out one hundred and eighty nine

(02:05:10):
degrees on the date Menita was burned. So you can
take what you can take from this. But two point
eight million dollars is a lot of money. So Munita
for those burns is getting a lot. So Bill Miller
barbecues what kind of brand new food.

Speaker 1 (02:05:28):
Just so I understand this correctly, this lady was was
given a judgment of two point eight million. She won.

Speaker 6 (02:05:35):
She won.

Speaker 1 (02:05:37):
I'm really missing something here, man, cause you soe to
mitigate loss how was it that she determined? And with
all due respect because I don't know. I don't want
to argue at mood court. I haven't read the case,
But how is it you ascertained that you suffer two
point eight million in damages?

Speaker 6 (02:05:55):
So let me let me add Let me please please please?

Speaker 1 (02:05:59):
Do you work from you? Were you? You know? Law? You? Okay,
go ahead.

Speaker 6 (02:06:03):
So this wasn't the first time this incident has happened,
Morales said. The same incident happened two years ago at
the same exact restaurant. So it seems like this is
something that it's like kind of the second time that
it's happened, and because of that, that is something that
is getting added to the end. How much they have

(02:06:24):
to pay?

Speaker 1 (02:06:25):
I'm sure.

Speaker 6 (02:06:28):
Yes, she had second degree burns on her leg.

Speaker 1 (02:06:32):
How does hot sauce sit up on her? Damn lake?

Speaker 6 (02:06:35):
It was so hot that she dropped it?

Speaker 1 (02:06:39):
All right, you've answered all the question. Listen, this one
is we have. These are a couple of real doozies tonight,
these both of these Because actually I was hosted mallor
about six months ago, and I like to delve into
some you know, sideways topics every now and then you
know above Board, there was this restaurant in England that

(02:07:02):
ran this contest called Earned Your Wings. Right, It was
an endurance test. You could eat fifteen chicken wings that
were coded in something called Carolina Reaper sauce, and you
were warned you had to sign a release that yes
you could be hurt, yes you could be painful, and
the waiver even said possible loss of life. Which you know,

(02:07:24):
lawyers are going to put those disclaimers in there right
if people line up to do it. So I just
I this book's missing a chapter. To me. You got
the last word on the shade.

Speaker 6 (02:07:33):
I mean it's Buffalo Wild Wings has the same thing.
Actually with that that wing challenge they right across the
street they got the same thing. I actually I did
it too, which is it's funny that you brought that up.
But no, yeah, it's definitely a crazy scenario. And I've
heard this situation happening at like McDonald's and stuff with
like serving their hot chocolate too hot or something like that.
So this is definitely something that I've seen before. So

(02:07:55):
I mean, hey remember the hot coffee. Yes, McDonald's four
years ago, same principle, same principle it's too hot. Then
they sued. So hey, I mean, if you're out there
and you get.

Speaker 1 (02:08:06):
There, that's actually a really good point I did. I
never thought of that in those terms. That's analogous. It's
very analogous. Yeah, a good one. I mean, don okay,
two point nine million in damages though, you sue to
mitigate your loss two point.

Speaker 6 (02:08:20):
Nine millions, like generation. You can turn that into like
generational line.

Speaker 1 (02:08:23):
I mean, I don't know what this individual does for
a living. I don't know how much money they have. Whatever,
you sue to mitigate loss to make yourself whole. If
she suffered injury, she needs to be made whole, medical bills,
lost time at work. Maybe it was it was a
categorized under pain and suffering.

Speaker 6 (02:08:41):
Pain and suffering. It could be psychological situations in terms
of just like she can never really trust anyone anymore,
because they said that it was one hundred and sixty
five degrees, but it ended up being one hundred and
eighty nine degrees. Like you do a whole lot with that.

Speaker 1 (02:08:59):
All right, that's that's fair. This is a doozy. It's
an interesting one. It's almost a landmark case to me
because if you go out to eating a restaurant, you
know you're eating hot sauce and you know it's built
as hot sauce. Is there contributory negligence here at all? Shaite?
I'm just talking out my butt here. I mean, seriously,
you know what you're getting when you go there, Yeah, sauce.

Speaker 6 (02:09:21):
I agree there, But do you think about this. You're
not buying lava, You're like, for instance, like when I
get coffee, I'm not buying something that like, I know
it's going to be hot, but it's not gonna be
something that's so hot that I won't be able to
drink it, you know what I mean? Like there is
a point of like, Okay, this is a little crazy, but.

Speaker 1 (02:09:42):
I get it.

Speaker 6 (02:09:43):
I mean, this was kind of fifty three degrees over
what it's supposed to be. Is a lot. I think
that's a lot at least.

Speaker 1 (02:09:52):
All right, but good stuff, excellent, very good and good
point by Mark Ramsey. I think that there's smart to
that if you look at it. And I'd almost wonder
if if in the if in the lawyer's arguments or
summary they invoked that McDonald's situation. Right, you have a
reason you don't have a reasonable expectation to get hurt

(02:10:12):
if you're going out to eat, right, Yeah, the two
point nine million in damages. You know, you can't just
walk into a grocery store, slip on a piece of lettuce,
fall down. You know you're Eddie Gazinski making forty two
five at the local hardware store. Oh you're gonna sue
you for ten million? No, it doesn't work that way.
All right. You deserve to be made whole, but not
you know, Disneyland for life. All right. That is going

(02:10:34):
to conclude a more elongated version of What kind of
brand New Fool You, which now allows us to segue
into our second favorite bit that we lovingly call What
my Name? Here we go? All right? I recently became
the fourth NFL coach in history to earn my three

(02:10:54):
hundredth career victory, Mark Ramsey. What my name.

Speaker 6 (02:11:03):
Is it?

Speaker 7 (02:11:04):
The coach from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (02:11:07):
Yes it is. Do you have a name?

Speaker 6 (02:11:13):
Coach?

Speaker 1 (02:11:15):
Yes, it's coach. I love it marks on fire tonight. Yeah, yes,
it's Andy Reid. And good on you because it just
happened today. So you know, I like to threw a
few zingers on there. But we are one for one
heading into the rest of the brand new fool with
my name? All right, I'm maybe a young coach, but

(02:11:39):
I've made more playoff wins. All right, that's crappy English.
I've accumulated more playoff wins than any NFL head coach
in history under the age of forty Shane Mogguard what
my name?

Speaker 6 (02:11:57):
So most wins under the age of yep, under the
age of forty. So it's not BALLI shack, it's not,
it's not Who is this?

Speaker 1 (02:12:13):
Give me a clue. He coaches a California team.

Speaker 6 (02:12:16):
He coaches a California team? And is he currently under
the age of forty? Yeah? Se Sean McVay, Right, you
got it, Yeah, you got it?

Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
All right, guys, two for two. Let's move along. Before
Jade and Daniels. I'm the last rookie quarterback to win
a road playoff game. Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 6 (02:12:51):
Road play off?

Speaker 7 (02:12:52):
Road play off?

Speaker 1 (02:12:55):
I really talked about this last week. So Jade Daniels
just did it. But it hadn't been done in twelve years,
thirteen years and before.

Speaker 7 (02:13:04):
Nobody said they would be math and nobody said they
would be math.

Speaker 6 (02:13:08):
I can't think of it.

Speaker 1 (02:13:10):
What do you mean nobody said there would be math?
You lost me.

Speaker 6 (02:13:13):
I'm trying to make a joke.

Speaker 1 (02:13:14):
Sorry, I'm a bad audience sometimes. Here's the deal. Maybe
I didn't pose the question very properly. Jane Daniels just
want to He's not one two playoff games on the
road as a Rickey quarterback before him, I was the
last guy to do it. Here's a clue, Mark, I

(02:13:34):
was a player in the NFC West. NFC West, Pete
Carroll was the coach of the team.

Speaker 6 (02:13:45):
I'm sorry, say that. Say it again.

Speaker 1 (02:13:48):
Pete Carroll was the coach of the team. It was
the NFC West, And I'm the last guy before Jade
and Daniels as a rookie to win a playoff game
on the road. Quarterback. What my name?

Speaker 6 (02:13:56):
Russell Wilson?

Speaker 1 (02:13:57):
You got it, but Russell Wilson. This one's also a
doozy year. I'm the only quarterback in NFL history to
actually throw more interceptions in one playoff game that I
threw during the whole damn season, Shaite, what my name?

Speaker 6 (02:14:14):
But the only quarterback to throw more interceptions.

Speaker 1 (02:14:18):
In a single playoff game than I did the entire
season cumulatively.

Speaker 6 (02:14:22):
That was that was that literally just happened.

Speaker 1 (02:14:25):
You got it? You got it?

Speaker 6 (02:14:27):
It was it was was it bo No, it.

Speaker 1 (02:14:30):
Wasn't the same first name as Bieber Bieber.

Speaker 6 (02:14:33):
Justin Herbert, Justin Herbert.

Speaker 1 (02:14:35):
Remember just did it? Last week we were talking about
you went into the game, the playoff game.

Speaker 6 (02:14:40):
That was a bad game.

Speaker 1 (02:14:42):
Yeah. I still love the guy. I know Robert Griffin
wants hisself to beat the crap out of him now.

Speaker 6 (02:14:46):
I turned my game off.

Speaker 1 (02:14:48):
It was a tough game. Tough game, man, But you're
only thrown three picks all year and throws four in
one game. All right, here's another doozy. Just got some
classics this week. As an NFL head coach. I had
the highest conversion rate on fourth down this season. Whopping
eighty seven. Yep, Mark Ramsey, what my name? Give you

(02:15:12):
a clue? He's still alive in the playoffs right now?
Is it? For the former coach of the Atlanta Falcons Falcons?
A former coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

Speaker 7 (02:15:25):
Former of the Atlanta Falcons coach, oh, I can't think
of his name that he also coach for the Denver Broncos, not.

Speaker 1 (02:15:37):
The Broncos, but he was on the he was on
the Cowboys staff. All right, I'm the NFL head coach
with the highest conversion rate of fourth downs this year
eighty seven. Uh shaye, what my.

Speaker 6 (02:15:49):
Name it's uh, it's dan Quinn, dan Quinn.

Speaker 1 (02:15:53):
Yeah, five in a row.

Speaker 4 (02:15:56):
All right.

Speaker 1 (02:15:57):
You've heard me say many times of the true mark
up a quarterbacks, how do you do in the red zone?
How do you do on third down? And how do
you do in the fourth quarter? Well? In this season,
the twenty twenty fourth season, I let all NFL quarterbacks
with the number one passer rating in the fourth quarter?
Mark Ramsey, what my name.

Speaker 6 (02:16:18):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (02:16:18):
Mahomes Not, that's a good guess, Not Packerck Maholmes.

Speaker 4 (02:16:22):
He is.

Speaker 1 (02:16:23):
Uh. He's still alive in the playoffs, though, I let
all NFL quarterbacks with number one passer rating in the
fourth quarter of the season. Shaite, what my name? Lamar?
Not Lamar?

Speaker 6 (02:16:37):
Fourth quarter?

Speaker 1 (02:16:38):
Kalen Hurts What Yeah, in the fourth quarter of this year,
he's number one passer rating when it matters, yep.

Speaker 6 (02:16:44):
I would have never guessed that he's I don't think I.

Speaker 1 (02:16:46):
Would have either, you know what. My wife made a suggestion.
I don't know. I think this works on TV but
not on radio. I want your guys both your honest opinion,
because a couple of months ago started doing the clues.
I think it spices things up a little bit. Yeah,
I like the clod good banter. My wife thinks I
had to say, like, Okay, pulls the question this way.
I haven't bought into it yet, but I will if

(02:17:08):
you guys want to. So you take the same question
I just asked. I let all NFL quarterbacks with the
number one passing rating passer rating in the fourth quarter
of this past season? Am I a Russell? Or? Am
I a Russell Wilson b Justin Herbert see Jalen Hurts.
If I were to give you three choices like that, ABC,

(02:17:30):
is that good for this game or not?

Speaker 6 (02:17:32):
That could be a little bit more fun. We could
could be Mark, yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:17:35):
Okay, would you want me to? Okay, but they know
what I'm going to implement it. Maybe maybe not on
every question, but I'm going to implement it. Oyay.

Speaker 6 (02:17:41):
It doesn't have to be every question because at least
we have choices.

Speaker 7 (02:17:44):
And if we could think of, oh, it's possibly that
what's out hearing name, Oh it could be that fad
that's fair.

Speaker 1 (02:17:49):
And that's fair. I'm willing to do it, and we
will do it. I see that it works on TV
when people could see it right, but on radio they
start to melt melt together. That's notin only concerned. But
we're gonna give it a whirl. Okay.

Speaker 7 (02:18:02):
The clues help because they're like Brad crimes. It'll lead
you to the place.

Speaker 1 (02:18:06):
Right fair enough, but that's more than clues. That's one
of them. Have to be right. So you could just write,
but I'm gonna do it, Okay, I am going to
do it. Currently, I'm the number one NFL quarterback in
postseason rushing yards Shaye, what my name?

Speaker 6 (02:18:27):
Like like just this season.

Speaker 1 (02:18:29):
No career, I'm sorry, career postseason rushing yards. I'm number
one in the NFL rusher more than anybody. Lamar.

Speaker 6 (02:18:40):
No, but he's not even He hasn't gone in the
playoffs that often. So it's like, is it Lamar is.

Speaker 1 (02:18:46):
He I will here's the clue. He's a member of
an AFC team and they're still in the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (02:18:52):
An AFC team, so that could be a Lamarston.

Speaker 1 (02:18:55):
Lamar, it's not Lamar Mark Ramsey what my name?

Speaker 6 (02:19:04):
So quarterback that runs around. We know it's not friend Tarktent.
How about Josh Allen?

Speaker 1 (02:19:13):
It is, in fact Josh Allen.

Speaker 6 (02:19:14):
Understanding, great gass.

Speaker 1 (02:19:17):
Here's a kicker, Josh Allen maybe number one as far
as career postseason rushing yards by a quarterback. But I'm
number two and he only is leading me by seven yards? Shaite,
What my name is it? My boy? Lamar? It is

(02:19:40):
Lamar Jackson? Faith off here in about fourteen hours.

Speaker 6 (02:19:47):
Thirteen hours, did you see that that did that thing?
About like their first playing time in the NFL. They
were playing against each other.

Speaker 1 (02:19:56):
Oh, I didn't know, I don't think so.

Speaker 6 (02:19:58):
The Ravens were blowing out out the Bills forty to zero.
I think this was back.

Speaker 1 (02:20:03):
In like seven eight years ago.

Speaker 6 (02:20:04):
Yeah, I led their rookie year, and the Ravens were like,
a let's throw, let's low Lamar and in the third
and then they threw Josh Allen at the same time.
It was a horrible game. They both threw for like
under one hundred yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions. But just
a little fun little facts.

Speaker 1 (02:20:20):
Oh yeah, cool, good stuff. All right? Last one, guys,
last one. I'm the only coach in NFL history, who
actually won fifteen games in a season and lost my
first playoff game? Is it a Tom Landry, B. Dan

(02:20:42):
Campbell or C Jimmy Johnson? See what my Name?

Speaker 7 (02:20:56):
I'm gonna go with Tom Landry.

Speaker 1 (02:20:59):
Oh, not to Landry, but I'm the only coach at
NFL history to win fifteen games in the regular season
and lose my first playoff game? Is it a Tom Landry, B?
Dan Campbell, see Jimmy Johnson?

Speaker 6 (02:21:14):
That would be be it happened today?

Speaker 1 (02:21:18):
Campbell? Ye, all right, good stuff, guys. We will in
fact dimplement the little ABC Michael Jackson. As you know,
we like to evolve here right on the Bernie Fratto Show.
Is that fair? And by the way, I hate when
I speak in third person like that. If I do,
just kick me in the junk. Okay, I hate when
people talk that way. Good job, guys. Another rising edition

(02:21:43):
of What kind of Brand New Fool You? Followed by
What My Name? By the way, football fans, be sure

the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio. All were back
on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Coming up.

(02:22:27):
Before the end of the show, I'll give my preview
of the National Championship game Monday night. The keys that
would lead Ohio State to victory and the well, the
keys that might lead Notre Dame to victory. I'll share
with you or I think both of those strategies reside

(02:22:48):
spoiler alert. I don't think Notre Dame is gonna win,
but I'll give you a little bit more on that
coming up. The first we covered all here on The
Bernie Frattle Show, including the football It's spelled futbol played internationally.
It's time Chris Burfett's World of Soccer.

Speaker 3 (02:23:06):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drum, am fuck,
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.

Speaker 1 (02:23:26):
Bernie.

Speaker 2 (02:23:26):
We only have a few minutes with the world of
soccer every week, and sometimes I have to make executive
decisions about what goes into this. And there are some
big stories to the sport itself, like Ivarcellia going to
Parising Germain in the transfer window, probably their biggest pick
up now they've had since you know, Letting killing himbape
Go and something that could really revive interest in there.
But no, we have to go to Italy. We have

(02:23:48):
to talk about my favorite league in the world, Syria.
And the reason why Italian soccer is my favorite in
the world isn't always because of the play on the field.
It's because of how bat bleep crazy Italy can be
for its soccer culture and for its soccer teams. And
when I tell you, I have a story that involves

(02:24:08):
fascist dictators and saluting them, falconry a urologist summary, firings
and locking yourself in team facilities and the president picking
a fight with you. And this all starts over a
raunchy social media post. Boy, do I have something for you?
Because we are taking you to the club of problem children.

(02:24:32):
Latziolazzio is having by Loatzio standards a fantastic season at
eleven three and six. They stand right now fifth on
the Siria table and they are playing and in my
mind could easily get a top four finish. But that's
not what we're concerned about. We're not concerned about anything
with the team. What we're concerned about is the team's falconer.

(02:24:53):
One one Bernabe, a big time fan of the club,
a employee of the club, and the man respon reponsible
for the pregame flyovers for the team Eagle. Now, the
next part of this story is why I am glad
this is appearing on Fox Sports Radio in Safe Harbor
hours because we have to talk about what he was

(02:25:13):
very proud to get. Working with the team doctor, Bernabay
got himself a cosmetic enhancement to his manhood. He got
an implant down there was it for any kind of
medical necessity, No, it was there for cosmetic and I'm

(02:25:34):
sorry I might have like rushed over this a little bit.
It was performed by the team doctor for Lazio, who
is a urologist. Bernabay was so proud of his new
enhanced and longer boots that he shared images of it
on X Multiple images of it it was on a
private channel, meaning he said, according to Italian radio, that

(02:25:55):
it was a private matter. Either way, these pictures made
it out into the ecosystem, at which point the club
learned about these images and fired Burnaby. They were appalled
to see it and fired him immediately and fired the
team doctor learning that they had performed this operation on Burnabay. Burnabay,
who is still recovering from his enhancement, has decided to

(02:26:17):
lock himself in the team facilities and refuses to acknowledge
is that he has been sacked. This leads to multiple
statements from the coach, from the team president denouncing Bernabay,
denouncing the shame he has brought upon the club. Now,
this is very funny because if you dive into Bernabey's
past at all, you will find that this is not
the first time he's been in trouble with the club,

(02:26:38):
being suspended back in twenty twenty one, where he was
caught on camera making a fascist salute at a game
and saying that he admired Benito Mussolini because he did
a lot of good things for Italy. Now you might think,
how are you not leading with that, Chris, that you
have a black shirt a fascist over this over a.

Speaker 6 (02:27:00):
Implant to his manho.

Speaker 2 (02:27:02):
Well, I'll tell you why, because a first off, it
brings us to the next great point where the team
president Claudio Lotito was then asked about this kind of
thing and said that he will not forgive him over
the pictures, and also that this was worse than saluting
the old nineteen forties fascist dictator. Wesito then gave us

(02:27:24):
this wonderful quote, perhaps the Roman salute is worse at
your home, but not mine. And this is where we
have to remind everyone that throwing up fascist salutes is
normal at Lozio for their supporters. It happens all the
damn time. We have fans, players, coaches who have yelled

(02:27:44):
fascist slogans and thrown up fascist salutes in the past.
Because this is the club of the black shirts. Lozio
is the club of the fascists in Italy, of the
people who thought Mussolini was a great man and not
one of history the greatest monsters. So yes, the team
falcon er throwing up fascist salutes does not register anything

(02:28:08):
to Latsio, but getting an enhancement to your manhood absolutely
that is grounds for firing and worse than worshiping Mussolini.
Apparently this club is a cruel joke and it never
seems to go away. That's it for World of Soccer, Bernie,
I hope you love this story, because, man, this is
the wildest thing I've seen in quite a few years.

Speaker 1 (02:28:29):
All Right, a very spirited world of soccer from Chris Purfett.
That I give Chris poetic license to say what he wants,
you know. News flash, and Musolini's been dead for about
eighty years. Oh yeah, people have opinions. We're all paid
to have opinions here at Fox Sports Radio. We don't
always have necesarily have to agree with set opinions. That's

(02:28:52):
what makes for a horse race. Comeing up, we wrap
up the show, and you got a little football game
on Monday night, Ohio State and Notre Dame. You know,
for my money, this College FOOTBA playoff work. It's much
better than it's been in the past. We were treated

(02:29:13):
this year to eleven playoff games. We've had ten and
ten and this is the eleventh as opposed to the
four team made for TV Invitational tournament. This has been better.
Should get massive ratings on Monday. I'm Bernie Fradle We're
coming to line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
tarach dot com studios. Keep it locked right here. You
listened to the Bernie Fratle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

(02:29:34):
All right, wrapping it up on the Bernie Fratle Show,
I'm coming to you live from the Tarraq dot com

go any further, I want to think my broadcast team.

train on the tracks, allowing everything to run smoothly. Good
job tonight, Brand new fool, what my Name, and all
of that good stuff. By the way, We'll be back
on these airwaves next Friday night at eleven pm Pacific time,
heading into the AFC NFC Championships and of course plenty

of new sports stories. By the way. Also shortly after

You'll see this show posted right after we get off
the air. All right, Ohio State Notre Dame Monday Night,
a storied matchup two storied franchises currently then spread. Ohio
States laying eight and a half, the total is about
forty six, and there's there's been some pretty good two

(02:31:05):
way action come in on this. So what will it
take for Ohio State to win? Real simple? Don't mess around.
Just open up the passing game through Jeremiah Smith and
Amika Abuba, just like you have in your first three
playoff games. When You've managed to score forty two, forty one,
twenty eight points in each of those games, and I've

(02:31:26):
scored your opponent by cumulatively fifty nine points. Will Howard's
throwing for over two hundred and eighty yards in each contest. Secondly,
get your defense to take over so that large advantage
can be built up. Now, the Buckeyes have a pretty
good pass rush, Jack Sawyer, J T. Two Molow. They've

(02:31:48):
held all three opponents they've played the twenty one points
or less. Now the twenty one point concession of Oregon
is a little misleading. You only scored eight points Oregon.
They held Oregon eight points in the first half. See.
The thing is, Ohio State's found a way to shut
down the strengths of each op opposing offense because if
they take away their best asset in Bill Belichick style,

(02:32:12):
So if you take away Riley Leonard and Jeremiah Love
and the rushing attack, I think Notre Dame's in for
a hell of the long night because their passing attack
is average. It just is. Now. I get that Jeremiah
Smith wasn't a big factor against Texas because they double
teamed him. They doubled him, they put him in a bracket.
They put them and they were plastering them. Will Howard

(02:32:34):
still found a way to exploit the Longhart secondary through
Carnel Taate and the Buga. You get the point. And
let's also not forget the two headed monster with three
Avon Henderson and Quincheawn Jenkins. They're superb. But if Ohio
State wins by margin, it'll be because of the aerial prowess.
I have a lot of respect for Notre Dame, but

(02:32:55):
I think this is a bad matchup for them, I
really do. Does Notre Dame have a path to victory? Sure,
there have been many times in college football where I
mean take Penn State in Miami back in eighty seven,
that was supposed to be a wipeout. Penn State shocked them.
Here's the kicker. Notre Dame's offense thrives on the ground.

(02:33:15):
Riley Leonard's legs have been a massive asset to Notre
Dame because they're an offense that relies also on running backs,
and they're running back Jeremiah Love. He's really been the lynchpin.
He's not one hundred percent though, but Leonard can on
occasion be a difference maker with his arm because when

(02:33:36):
they beat Penn State in the Orange Bowl, he did
throw for two hundred and twenty three yards, but he'd
only had more than two hundred and twenty yards once
in the entire regular season. So Notre Dame is really
a run first team. And Notre Dame's receivers they're not
anywhere near as elite as Smith and Abuca. But listen,

(02:33:57):
Jordan Faison is a talent aid in greathouse. These guys
are above average, but when you look at their rob trees,
you look at the way their passing game sets up.
It's not good. It's not a prototypical passing game. They
also have a pretty good tight end, Mitchell Elevens. He
could be a good factor on offense. He had five
He caught five balls against Penn State for sixty yards.

(02:34:17):
But here's the problem. Defensively, Notre Dame has to figure
out which poison they want to drink. What do they
do when it comes to putting speed bumps in Ohio
State's offense. You know, Texas said we're going to eliminate
Jeremiah Smith, and they did essentially at one catch. They

(02:34:38):
double teamed him, they plastered him, they bracketed them, and
that enabled the other two receivers to have a big day.
They still got burned. Notre Dame likes to play a
lot of man too. They're gonna They've said they're gonna
live by the sword, die by the sword. They believe
in their physicality, they believe in their athleticism, and I
believe that's the approach they they'll take. Whether or not

(02:34:58):
that comes back to by them, We're gonna find out
the way I see it, though. Honestly, Ohio State's got
a collection of talent that's been way too much for
any of their playoff opponents to handle. They have the
best roster in college football and they showed it. And
ever since the Michigan coming out party, and I know

(02:35:19):
people want to try to say that that loss fired
him up and caused them to regroup and all that.
I don't believe there's any such thing as a good loss.
That's like a good kidney stone. Now that Lostpayre may
not have fired him up, but I think it insert
of doubt and all it did was talk about will
Ryan Howard, will Ryan Day be fired? Which was ridiculous.

(02:35:40):
He was never gonna get fired. They're not going to
piss away next year's recruiting class and run the risk
of having key players in a team leave. He could
have lost to Tennessee by ten in Game one. He
would not have been fired. Might have been ugly going
into next year, might have been uncomfortable. You might have
the proverbial hot seat, But what does that mean fired? No.
I think if Ohio State would have rolled Michigan or
beat Mischigon, they still be having to the same success

(02:36:01):
they are now because they have a collection of talent
on both sides of the ball with playmakers up and
down the line across the board that no one can handle.
If Ohio State brings their a game, if Jeremiah Smith
is even more involved on Monday than he was against Texas,
you have the potential for this to be a twenty
point win for Ohio State. Now, Notre Dame does have

(02:36:25):
an offensive identity and it sticks to it, but they're
gonna have to and if the Notre Dame's not built
to play from behind, if they get two scores behind,
they're gonna run the ball. They have enough firepower, but
not the kind of firepower that Ohio State has. They
cannot match Ohio State score for score the same way
that Washington did against Detroit. And by the way, Notre

(02:36:47):
Dame's defense can be had. If USC's offense can put
up five hundred dards against them, then Ohio State can
do that as well. What do I see the game.
I'm gonna call it Ohio State twenty seven fourteen. It'll
be a fistfight and booth for a while, and then
Ohio State will start to stretch the field. Great season
for both teams. We'll all be watching. I'll see on
the airwaves next Friday Night, eleven pm, The Bernie Friday Show,

(02:37:09):
and meantime keep it locked up next to great Andy Furman.
