(00:26):
for a free rate quote. They call this the best
football weekend of the year. You get two games today,
two games Sunday, and then Monday. What a dessert, Clemson
L S you. I'm obsessed with this game, folks. You
know it's funny. I do a bunch of radio interviews

(00:48):
across the country during the week. People call me, want
to have me on talk Gambling, Talk sports, whatever, and
I keep saying, you know, I really want to open
with clubs to the L s U. And they're like, Jason,
you can't. I'm like, I know, I can't because Clemson L.
S U is kind of a regional thing and college
football is religion in the South. But folks, I'm obsessed

(01:09):
with this game. I'm just gonna leave you one nugget
before we get to the real open. This is going
to be the most bet college football game in the
history of the sport Clemson l s U. I have
a sizeable wager. I'm kind of regretting it already, but
we'll get to that later. We got a lot to
get to today. NFL head coaching hires all over the place.

(01:30):
You've got some people complaining about the Rooney rule. Gavin
has a new guest he wants to bring on the show.
We've never talked to this guy before, a sports psychologist.
That's gonna be fascinating. Next hour, will of course do
picks um. Yes, I will talk about Steph Curry and
Janice and whether or not Kyle Kuzmas shouldn't be traded.
But I need to start here. The Cleveland Browns developing situation.

(01:55):
I can't believe this, Guys. You know I love to
bash the Browns. I have a checkered history with Baker Mayfield.
O'Dell Beckham has blocked me on social media for some
of the accurate things I've said about him on the
show and on television on FS one, But I can't
believe it. I'm kind of impressed with what the Cleveland
Browns are doing right now. Right I'm impressed. I gotta say,

(02:17):
you know, I didn't like drafting Baker Mayfield. Even though
it turned out great, my Jets end up with Sam
donald Um. I did not like the Browns going after
Odell Beckham. I thought they're week in the trenches, and
it turned out they are still weak in the trenches.
And O'Dell had, you know, given he was healthy one
of the worst seasons of his career, he may be
on the move. But why I'm impressed with the Cleveland

(02:40):
Browns right now is that they're displaying something we haven't
seen from them in years. It almost makes me wonder
if they're turning a corner. The Cleveland Browns, ladies and
gentlemen are showing some patience. That's right. The Redskins go
out quickly get a coach who has been to the

(03:00):
Super Bowl in the last decade, Ron Rivera. The Giants
and Panthers out here essentially have a bidding war for
Matt Rule, a college football coach who is never coached
it down in the NFL, and the Panthers end up
giving him I think sixty million, Gavin. I don't know
if that's but Matt Rule sixty million to the Panthers.

(03:21):
I think there was a bidding war for him. Basically,
Matt Rule said, Hey, guys, I know I gotta interview
with you. Um, but the Panthers are calling an offering dance.
I'm about to get on a plane trying to get
a bidding more started. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns are sitting
there patiently, all good, We're good. We're gonna talk to
more people. And then the Cowboys go out and we
will definitely get to Mike McCarthy later. Uh. They got

(03:44):
the biggest retread on the market in Mike McCarthy. Um,
knee jerk reaction is shoulder shrug what abs. I don't
know about that higher, But the Browns are being patient
and it it reminded me of something I saw scribbled
on a bathroom wall once. Show impatience with your actions,

(04:04):
show patience with your results. Right, we all are impatient.
That's our nature. We want something, damn it, I want
that right now. We're like little kids that way. Right.
I go to the go to the story yesterday to
pick up a couple of items, and I told my
daughter I would get you a new fitbit because hers
busted or whatever. So my son, of course, it's like,

(04:25):
well I need one, dad, um, and he starts pointing
at I need that, and that's what the one all
the kids have. You can text message. I'm like, you
don't have a phone. You're not getting a phone. Impatience, right.
I moved out here to l A to do uh
TV for FS one radio for Fox Sports Radio. Six
months after I'm on TV and this is you know,

(04:45):
I had not really been on TV before. My first
thought is, Okay, this is fun. When do I get
my own show? You know that's I think that's natural.
We're just impatient. We're impatient humans. You're stopped in traffic,
you guys know this. You see the lane next to
you moving, I got to get out. I quickly move over.
You go up two cars and then you sit there
and the lane you were just dane goes past you.

(05:06):
You guys know that we are impatient, folks. The Browns
are you ready for this? The Cleveland Browns have now
interviewed eight different people for their head coaching job. That's insane.
Jimmy Hasslum, the owner, we know he's very impatient. Okay,
I think he's on his fifth coaching search. He's dumped

(05:26):
two guys after one season. Nobody has made it through
three full seasons. This is what billionaires do. They're impatient,
but what they're doing this this coaching season, I'm impressed.
Now Josh Daniels is perceived to be the favorite, and
I don't know what to make of Josh daniels because

(05:48):
Josh McDaniels, Because my big question is who's going to
be buying the groceries. We know Josh McDaniels is going
to be the cook, right, He's gonna be cooking up offense.
He's in the lab, going to work, putting together schemes
to make Baker Mayfield successful. But who is buying the
groceries that Josh McDaniels is using. Is it Chief Strategy

(06:10):
Officer Paul D. Podesta, a k a. Mr Moneyball? Yes,
Jonah Hill played him in Moneyball? Very nerdy guy from Yale,
but knows what the hell he's doing. Or is it
gonna be the GM who has not yet been hired. Normally,
the process is all right, let's bring in a GM,
let's get his overall strategy, then we will hire a coach.

(06:35):
But the Browns are doing a little differently, and I'm
not opposed to different folks. You know that the way
I got where I am is by being different. I
was at a magazine. I said, man, Internet's kind of
a game changer when it comes to media. Let me
start a blog. Start a blog, I get little lucky.
I do it anonymously that I put my name on.

(06:55):
It was written about blah blah blah. Next thing you know,
it gets sold. And I was different, different than anybody else.
I bring a different skill set to the table, a
different outlook. The Browns are doing it differently. Their chief
strategy Officer, Mr. Analytics Paul de Podessa is running the show.
So the Browns are showing impatience with their actions. Let's

(07:17):
bring in everybody. We're gonna bring in everybody. Eight guys
are gonna interview all kinds of dudes. But they're showing
I hope, I hope they finally show some patients with
the results, because if Josh McDaniels is the guy, or
if they go another hound, I'm personally a little surprised
Lincoln Riley has not gotten a call um A little surprising.

(07:41):
It's pretty clear now urban Meyer was indeed a pipe dream.
If you guys remember last week on the show, there
was some urban Meyer scuttle button Browns are interested. That's
clearly not happening at this juncture. But I want to
see patients from the Cleveland Browns now. I want to
quickly pivot to this, just a couple of minutes on
this because it really ticked me off. And you know, again,
it's NFL season. Okay, this is a morning show. You

(08:04):
want to be light, we want to be fun. We
want to talk hashtag dad life, we want to talk
about Margot Robbie in every movie she does. We're having fun.
It's a morning show. I'm not arguing with you, but
my goodness, I could not resist myself. Guys when I
saw Kendrick Perkins go after Kevin Durant, his former teammate. Now,

(08:28):
it's just social media thing. I know that. I know
that's what it is. That's all it is, social media,
nothing bigger than that. But what irk to me is
the general consensus was people agreed with Kendrick Perkins. So
if you're happy to miss it, um. Kendrick Perkins basically
came out this week and said, oh, Russell Westbrook's returning
to Okay. See he is the best player in Okay

(08:50):
see history. Which is laughable is that nobody believes that
and Kendrick Perkins explanation was pretty idiotic. If you ask
me so online, I'll I'll give you the audio here
to say. But Kendrick Perkins former Center, you know him,
bearded guy have he said? And Gavin, when you tease this,
put it out on the internet this way. If Kendrick

(09:12):
Perkins tried to crack the NBA and he's a marginal player,
I'm sorry, We've discussed this before, Guys, I said, what
is Patrick Ewing in the NBA now? Dominant in the eighties,
in the nineties, I don't know what he is right
now in the NBA. The NBA has changed so much.
Kendrick Perkins, I don't know if he even has a
shot at starting a game in the NBA right now.

(09:33):
That's how much it had changed. That's how limited his
skill set was at any rate. Kendrick Perkins said this
about Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant this week. Russell Westbrook
kept that organization of float. My whole argument wasn't to
shoot a slug at kd. My whole argument was the
rightfully crazy Russell Westbrooks. But when he deserved you don't

(09:57):
want to talk when you did the weakest move with
a history, and you still don't feel like a real champ.
I've been going for you to go to free bed
nine hunh, knowing that you took the cow way out.
This is total garbage and I'm really about to blow
my top right now, Like this dumb, wrong, inaccurate narrative

(10:18):
has been persistent for years. Okay, let's back up and
start with this. Kendrick Perkins says, well, Russ leads the Okay,
see franchise and points and assistant blah blah blah. Geez
my gosh, do you realize how basic that is? Gavin Um,
guess who is the leading score in Lakers franchise history?

(10:40):
I would, I would guess Kobe Kobe Bryant. Correct. Is
he the best player in Lakers franchise history? No? No,
of course not. That's a dumb way to to to
determine who's the best player in franchise history. Magic Johnson.
I looked this up, and I think Magic Johnson is fourth,
third or fourth? Okay, it goes. You know, you got Wilt,

(11:01):
you got Shock, you got Kobe. Magic Johnson is the
definition of the Lakers. Who cares that Kobe leads in points.
Let's go to the Celtics. Gavin. Guess who leads the
Celtics all time career points. Larry Bird? No really, John
Havelcheck is one, Paul pierces two, Larry Bird is three.
Give me Gavin as NBA guy, you know sports, who

(11:24):
is the definition of the Celtics When you think of
best Larry Bird that's brain. Come on, it's Larry Bird,
It ain't Paul Pierce. Points is a dub silly way
to gauge things do better. Kendrick Pricketts. Now, let's quickly
go on to the move. I'm starting to sweat. It's
just annoying, guys. I will maintain forever that Kevin Durant

(11:49):
made the difficult decision to leave. Okay, See, it's so
easy to just stay. It's easy you just stay and
you never win anything, and people make oh, this guy's
one of the best to never win a championship. He's
like Barkley. He's like car Malone, Well except Barkley. Car
Malone ended up leaving and chasing rings. They didn't get him.

(12:10):
The tough way is saying, guys, it's been real piece.
I'm out going to Golden State. This is the difficult
route and then knowing how much hate you're gonna get. Remember,
we have all seen what happened to Lebron when he
left the Brown the Calves. Lebrod was public enemy number
one in sports. Okay, Now, Kevin Durant learned a couple

(12:36):
of lessons. Okay, I'm not gonna hold a TV special
and say I'm out that that was not a great idea.
And number two, I'm not gonna go on stage and
be like we're gonna win, not one, not too You're
not gonna do that. So Kevin Durant learned his lesson
and just went to Golden State. The tough route. Folks,
This was a difficult decision. He knew he was gonna

(13:01):
get this hate. Why would Kevin Durant struggle to sleep
at night? Kendrick Perkins when he won two titles and
two finals MVPs, I ask you, ladies and gentlemen of America.
We saw Currie Clay Draymond blow a three one lead
to Lebron. They could not beat Lebron James. They couldn't

(13:22):
they beat him. A couple of years before that, when
I think Kyrie was down or Kevin, Kevin Love was
down maybe Kyrie as well, and they needed k D
k D comes Area's finals MVP twice. This was the
smart decision. And I'm not saying that because of you know,
two years ago I got friendly with Kevin Durant. Okay,
I haven't talked to that guy forever. He's with the Nats.

(13:43):
He's been brainwatched by Kyrie whatever. At any rate, Kendrick
Perkins is wrong and let's kill this silly Kevin Durant narrative.
Coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio, we got
a guest to talk about the Cleveland Browns higher if
it goes down today, could be Josh McDaniels. But what
if they're holding out for two coaches who were up

(14:04):
today going head to head Robert Sala, the defensive coordinator
of the Niners, he's been fantastic, and Kevin Stefanski of
the Vikings, the offensive coordinator. So we'll talk to her
next year on Fox Sports Radio. Bundle Holm on auto

(14:28):

and affiliates probably not available in every day. Back here
on Fox Sports Radio, it's me Jason McIntyre. We got
the Weather channel on here in the studio, and and
there's some bad weather, inclement weather throughout the country, especially Wisconsin,
Green Bay for the game Sunday, and um we'll see

(14:49):
about Kansas City, San fran looks like there could be
some wind and rain. We don't know what the weather
is in Cleveland, but it doesn't really matter because there's
no playoff game. But joining us right now to break
down the Brown situation. Is it going to be Josh
McDaniels or someone else? Is Mary Kay Cabot. She's been
owning the Cleveland Brown story for a while. She's at
Cleveland dot com. Mary Kay, good morning, How are you?

(15:10):
Good morning? Hey. By the way, weather in Cleveland today
degree what that is unseasonably warm? Yes, it's weird. Wow.
Maybe the sky is clearing for Josh McDaniels to come
into town and clean things up. So, Mary Kay, as
we are here this morning Saturday, what is the latest
on the Josh McDaniels and his wife flying into Cleveland

(15:33):
for the interview. Well, you know, I think the fact
that he left here without a contract leaves it open
to anyone. Now, you know, he can still be named
the coach at some point. But I think it also
increases the chances that, you know, maybe Kevin Stefanski is
still in the mix, or Robert Sala or Jim Schwartz Brandon,

(15:55):
you know, one of these other guys. I think the
fact that he flew in with his wife and no
deal was posed by the time he left that building,
I think that was significant. Wow. Interesting. So, uh, you know, again,
it's tough. It's always tough with these coaches who are
still coaching Stefanski and Salo. One of those two will
lose today as they go head to head. People were
complaining that Eric b Enemy is not getting a look.

(16:17):
Did the Browns consider him at all and did they
also consider any call to Lincoln Riley as well? As
far as you know, well, the Browns interviewed Eric the Enemy,
so he is one of their eight candidates, and just
like uh, the seven others that are still on the table,
he is viable right now. The only one that's off
the table is Mike McCarthy because he obviously took the

(16:38):
Cowboys job. But everybody else is still in play right now.
And I know that Eric had a really good interview
and hopefully if he doesn't get this job, he will
get one soon. Interesting. So, Mary kay, you know, I'm
kind of impressed by the patients. The Browns are showing
here interviewing eight guys, you know, the Redskins in the Giants.
They're all gobbling up the coach as quickly. Um, is

(17:01):
this kind of a turning of the page in Cleveland?
Is Jimmy Haslum really letting Paul D. Podesta totally run
the show and there's gonna be no more meddling. Well,
I wouldn't say no more meddling. I would say that,
I mean he's an involved owner the ownership of the
Cleveland Browns. They are involved and that's not going to
change anytime soon. But I will say that they don't

(17:24):
feel pressured or rushed right now. They're the only job left.
They don't have to make a decision. Guy Noon today,
you know they can let these divisional playoff games play out.
What if one of their guys is playing tonight. You've
got Kevin Stefanski going head to head with Robert Sala today.
You know what if their guys in that game. So
you just they just don't really know for sure yet.

(17:45):
I mean, maybe they need to give these guys a
little time to decide what they want to do as well.
So Mary Kay, we're talking with Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland
dot Com. I'm curious. So John Dorsey, Um, I guess
was the guy who decided we're drafting Baker may Field
we're trading for Odell Beckham. Um. I wonder now Paul D.
Podesta seems to be running the show. Does that mean that, perhaps,

(18:09):
I don't know, the new coach says, hey, let's bring
in another quarterback to compete with Baker, or I would
like to get Odell out of the building. Do we
know any of that or even have an inkling either way? No,
because Paul is really not running the show right now.
What Paul is running is the search. Paul is running
the coaching search, and the new coach and the new
general manager will have authority and say over the roster,

(18:31):
the draft roster decisions. So I think it's erroneous to
assume that all of a sudden, Paul D. Podesta is
running the football side of things. I think he's almost
going to be more of uh that sort of a
czar or president type roll, but not even full time.
He lives in San Diego, so really you know, the
truth of the matter is he is the chief strategy officer,

(18:54):
setting strategy and policy for the team and overseeing things,
but not really hands on day to day name. Yeah,
I like that title chief strategy officer. Um, so his
what if his strategy is? I mean, do we know
what his strategy is for the rounds other than he's
we know he's heavily analytics based. Well, that is the strategy.

(19:15):
The strategy is very much a moneyball strategy. And if
he sticks around, which I expect him to. Uh. You know,
some people have questioned whether he and Josh McDaniels can
co exist, but if Pauld put us to sticks around,
there will be uh much more you know, data driven
influence over both the coaching and personnel sides of the team.

(19:36):
It's something that the new coach and the new GM
are going to have to embrace. They're playing modern smart
football and that's what it's going to be here. And
and that's where the question of Odell Beckham called for
me is like, well, what what is the deal? What
does the analytics say about Beckham he had a rough year. Um,
he's got a huge contract. I mean, Mary Kay, if
the analytics say, hey, Odell Beckham is not an integral

(19:58):
piece for us, does that mean that Paul de Podesta
would would like to move on from it and make
a deal or like, how do you think that will work?
It's it's just a little confusing with the Chief Strategy
officer versus g M versus coach. Well, once again, the
GM will have final say over roster decisions with a
lot of input from analytics. So I think that those

(20:19):
people are all going to have to put their heads
together and decide what they want to do. Now. At
the end of last season, everyone said both sides, Odell
said he wanted to be here, at the Brown said
they absolutely wanted him back. Uh so right now, I'm
going to say he will be back, but you know
there will be a new sheriff in town, two of them,
and nobody knows what's going to happen till they get here.

(20:40):
Mary Kay. Last question, do any given the struggles of
former Belichick coaches at their next stop, Um, do you
have any concerns about that with Josh McDaniels or now, No,
I don't think so. I think he's been a coordinator
long enough, eleven seasons as coordinator of the Patriots, and
he's been in charge of that offense enough. But I

(21:02):
don't think that that would be a problem. I think
that that he'll be a successful NFL head coach, and
I think a lot of those guys learned from their
mistakes the first time around, So he's not going to
be coming up that head coach learning curve in the
first year like a lot of them have to do.
So I think he checks off a lot of boxes. Awesome.
All right, that's Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland dot com. You
can follow him on her on Twitter at Mary kay Cabot.

(21:25):
Mary Kay, thanks a lot, and good luck following the
Brown search. Thanks a lot, Thanks for having all right,
enjoy that sixty five degree weather, Mary Kay Cabot in Cleveland. Um, Gavin,
before we go to break, I'm just it's just it's
this is a tough situation for the Browns. You know,
if if Paul Depot has to say this is what
the analytics say, you gotta follow him. Josh McDaniels, and

(21:47):
we know Josh McDaniels went to Denver wanted total power,
and what happened there, like, you know, instantly him and
Jake Cutler had beef and you know, back to like
twenty two games or he was gone. A lot of
these guys from Belichick's world want power. I think it's
safe to say that whoever they hire is gonna be

(22:08):
there at least three years. They can't do another one,
and they honestly so they got to hit it. You know,
I just given Josh McDaniels, Like, let's say he's there
for a year. Then Belichick says, I'm walking away. You know,
Kraft is gonna call McDaniels like she said, he's been
there for eleven years. Why are people chasing this guy?
Do you really think that highly of Josh McDaniels. I

(22:30):
think more highly of anyone attached to Andy Reid than
Bill Belichick. That's a hot take for just look at
the coach. It's brutal, alright, coming up next to year
on Fox Sports Radio, listen, I I teased it at
the beginning of the show. I'm obsessed with Clemson l
s U obsessed, folks. I went to YouTube this week,

(22:52):
probably half a dozen times and showed my kids the
highlights of Ohio State versus Clemson, and there somebody cut
up the highlight I don't know if it was his
network or whatever on YouTube, and it's like a three
minute package. It just shows all of the awesome place
and a lot of them are Clemson highlights. Trevor Lawrence.

(23:12):
I'm really into this game Monday, so we'll talk about
that next. But first let's go to Isaac Loewen Chronic
the Latest in sports. Good morning, Jason. Busy night Friday.
In the NBA, Anthony Davis was out of the Lakers
lineup because of an injury, but it didn't matter too
much as they wanted Dallas to one four team Lebron
James thirty five points, sixteen rebounds, seven assists, Kyle Kuzma

(23:36):
coming up with a season i twenty six points for
the Lakers, who scored seventy nine in the first half
by the way their thirty one and seven on a
seven game winning streak. Milwaukee improved to thirty four and
six with a twenty one point victory at Sacramento, and
look out, now here comes the Memphis Grizzlies. Now in
a four game winning streak thanks to a victory over
the San Antonio Spirst, so Memphis is taken over the

(23:57):
eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Rookie
John Morant twenty two points and fourteen assists. Here come
the New Orleans Pelicans. They've won seven of their last nine,
most recently a victory over the Knicks at Madison Square
Garden last night by twenty eight from Brandon Ingram and
the Brooklyn Nets broke a seven game losing streak with
a victory over the Miami Heat Spencer. Dinwitty twenty six

(24:18):
points and a career high fourteen assays. We'll get back
to Jason McIntyre in ten seconds. But first award from

Thank you. Isaac um. I can't believe that the Grizzlies
are an eighth in the West. I just looked at
that last night. I was like, what they're ahead of
the Spurs, the Blazers, the Wolves, the Sun's it's a
shocker for me minute, Memphis Grizzlies. John Morant is dealing,

(25:01):
but it's the NBA. It's January. Nobody really cares back
here on Fox Sports Radio, it's your boy Jason McIntyre
coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
It's easy to say or more on car insurance with Geico.
Go to Geico dot com or call one eight under
nine for seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out

(25:23):
which way is easier. UM National Championship is Monday. Now,
it is weird. This is the vibe out here in California.
You guys know, I moved out here. I believe UM
and college football very big for USC. Gavin is a
U c l U c l A. Gavin't you know us,

(25:43):
your USC guy? Okay, Yeah, there's another producer here is
UM U c l A. And that's basically it. I mean,
there's some interest in Oregon from some people I've met,
but this is how lightly they take college football. So
I was in a Monday night, Monday afternoon pickup basketball
game and for a long time after moving out here,
and I told the guys, oh, guys, I gotta bail.

(26:05):
This is last year. I gotta bail. I gotta go
watch the National Championship. And they and the guys who
are sports fans. These guys are sports fans, trust me.
They gamble in the NFL, they play fantasy were you know, well,
I do poker nights with them. What time's kickoff, Jason,
I'm like, it's a National championship, guys, this is like
ten minutes. They're like, oh, we'll catch a second half

(26:27):
in National Championship Alabama Clemson last year. The people are
just like, whatever, I'll see the second half. It's just
not a huge deal out here. Now we do Fox
Sports Radio. Obviously big across the country, but huge in
the South. Football is religion. There. There are no NFL
teams in the state of Alabama. None in Mississippi. By

(26:49):
the way, Mississippi. Did you see they hired Mike Leach
and uh at Mississippi State and Lane Kiffin at Old Miss.
I mean, Mississippi is gonna be ground zero for craziness
in college football this year. That you don't expect to
hear that a lot, but the South is dominating college
football right now. And it kind of hurts the rest
of the country. Um. You know, obviously, Texas football will

(27:10):
always be big Friday Night lights Texas forever, blah blah blah. Um.
But you know, I don't think the Pac twelve has
won a playoff game in several years. Right. It was
like Oregon May Oregon over Florida State. There you go, Oregon. Oh, yes,
that that way. That was a destruction that Jamis Winston game.

(27:31):
He was terrible in that game. Um, but I don't know.
For whatever reason, I'm way into L s U Clemson
and I told Gavin that I believe L. S U
Clemson will outrate on television at least two of the
NFL games this weekend. And he was stunned. And a
lot of people think that's blasphemous. Um. Listen, there's no

(27:52):
Patriots this weekend. There's no Drew Brees. I'm sorry, folks,
but the Tennessee Titans are not a draw. The Houston
Texans not a draw. I think people like lamar um.
I think obviously Eagles, uh Seahawks will do a big number,
probably the biggest of the NFL. But like forty Vikings,

(28:14):
that's a good matchup. I like it. We're gonna talk
in depth about it, but I'm kind of more into
Clemson versus L s U. Let me sell it a
little bit to you, Okay, Um, first of all, it's
gonna be the most bet college football game in the
history of the sport. Okay, and everyone, Joe Public Gavin,

(28:36):
you know, how do we define Joe Public? Gavin the
guy who uh is a sports fan just knows what
he last saw. And basically we'll go up and say,
all right, give me a hundred on the favorite, yeah,
which would be L s U. And the public likes
what favorite and over's right, Oh yeah, And the over

(28:56):
for this game is sixty nine, which seems low given
L s U scored six t two the last time
I played a football game. Um, Joe Burrow had seven
touchdown passes. Two weeks ago they beat Oklahoma six two
to seventeen. L s U's basically playing at home. They
have the Heisman winner, not just any Heisman winner, by

(29:17):
the largest margin of victory in the Heisman Trophy history.
So everything's lining up for L s U. Guys, Do
you realize L s U has beaten six teams ranked
in the top ten at the time of their game.
That Texas game is included in there. I know Texas
didn't finish grade although they won their bowl game. Six
if they beat Clumps and that seven, Kevin, I'm not

(29:38):
going overboard here, but you know, L. S U. If
they win the championship, we have to put them in
the discussion of among the greatest teams ever. And it
feels crazy because it's like, who Joe Burrow? He has
fifty five touchdown passes. I mean, this is historical stuff.
Last year Joe Burrow had six team touch downs passes.

(30:01):
Here's fifty five this year. We'll get to why that is.
But in this game, Clemson is such an underdog, such
an underdog that I love them here huge in this game.
I love Clemson getting six seven whatever. Remember you can
get and Gavin, you do a lot of gambling stuff.

(30:21):
You you went to Vegas recently. You know if this
game were you know, they were setting a line for
this game four weeks ago. Clemson's favor maybe by one.
I don't know if they get one and a half
because the game is in Baton Rouge. But this is
such an overreaction to what everybody just saw. L. S U. Oklahoma.

(30:44):
It's also a resume thing though, because l s U
has so many great wins this year and Clemson you
can't blame them for their schedule and the conference they play,
they just don't have that many this year. But by
the way, what I was gonna say is, either way
this games, you have a narrative like, if Clemson wins,

(31:04):
Trevor Lawrence is on pace to have the greatest college
career ever ever as a quarterback. I've got that. Next
he's undefeated, tive and oh and I know you're saying, okay,
a CC folks. Before that Ohio State game, Joe clad
fs one is talking about, is Ohio State, you know,
maybe the best Big Ten team in the last decade.

(31:26):
That's how stacked Ohio State was heading into Championship weekend.
They were the number one seed. Clemson fell behind six
seed nothing and beat them. And I know, I know
you're gonna blame the referees in the non over overturned
fumblah blah blah blah. I just want to say this stat,
Gavin is maybe the craziest I've seen so Clemson's last

(31:48):
three playoff games. Okay, last year against Notre Dame who
they bludgeoned to death. Then against Alabama and then against
Ohio State. They gave of up in those three combined
games seven points in the second half. That's it. None
to Notre Dame, none to Alabama, and one touchdown to

(32:12):
Ohio State. I mean, that's unfathomable. And what that says
is I think and this is where I go into
Dabo Sweeney. I mean, Gavin mentioned Trevor Lawrence being all
time great. Dabo Sweeney with this, we'll have three titles.
There's only nine guys in college football history with three championships.
Saban and Bear Bryan have six. Dabo Sweeney puts himself

(32:35):
in the upper crust of college football history with another title. Here.
You guys can talk about both him, Beckler and Lou
Holds and all these guys. Dabo is on the verge
of a dynasty and it helps at his quarterback, Trevor
Lawrence is. And oh and another mind boggling stat They
went and looked up Trevor Lawrence's high school career. If

(32:57):
you combined his high school career and his college career,
He's won seventy of seventy one football games. Do you
realize how good. This guy is. The one loss was
his senior year in the state champ State semifinals or
whatever it is in in Georgia and Trevor Lawrence's team
gives up a touchdown with twelve seconds left and they lose.

(33:19):
That's his only loss as a football player. Trevor Lawrence
is ridiculous. I mean, and again, I know I'm you
people will think I'm throwing around hyperbolee. What I'm saying
the best ever and in the discussion for the greatest
blah blah blah. I'm sorry, but the facts lay this
stuff out. And then when you watch Trevor Lawrence in

(33:40):
that game against Ohio State, I don't know that I've
seen as much of a warrior like performance from a
quarterback in a long time. This guy was taking brutal hits,
brutal hits. He ran the football way more than anybody
thought he would. You're like, whoa, wha, you got a
pro career coming up, Trevor chill with the runs over
hund yards that game winning drive, it was like three

(34:03):
minutes left. That's the stuffed legends are made of. You
get the ball trailing with three minutes left in a
playoff game and you go to the length of the
field and four plays against epic defense in Ohio State
with two top ten picks, maybe two top five picks
and Okuda at the cornerback and Chase Young the defensive end.

(34:24):
I know I'm doing a hype reel for the game,
but this game is just blown Vial. I can't wait
for this. If Dabbo wins on Monday, we'll have three
national titles. You mentioned it, he would need three more
Toetie Saban. He's eighteen years younger than so. Yeahs three
and eighteen years could be tough, but not the way
he could be. But he could be on pace to

(34:44):
pass Nick Saban and Trevor Lawrence is back next year. UM.
Last note, I'm kind of excited. Last night I get
this text from Fox. Um we did this thing called
a watch with last year at the Super Bowl. UM
it was like me, t J Houshman, Zada, Mark Schlareth,
Dean Blandino, and they put it on YouTube and it
got like over a million views. They were thrilled with it,
and they want to do a college football one Monday,

(35:06):
so they just asked me to be in it. It's
gonna be uh Reggie bush Um, Joe Klatt, uh Me,
and Mike Pereira. So I'm very excited. I will be
in that on Monday afternoon. I mean, unless I get
booted from it. But it should be awesome. I'm telling you,
I'm very and I'm not just excited about the game
because of that. I was already excited before I got
that text. I'm just telling you this game is gonna

(35:28):
be ridiculous. Well I almost want to take calls on this, Gavin,
but I don't know. I got more. I got many
more notes on this game, but coming up next year
on Fox Sports Radio. Quick NBA note on the Kyle
Kuzman trade talks. I don't know if heating up is
the right word, but you need to read between the
lines on what's really going on with Kyle Kuzma and
the Lakers. That's next on Fox Sports Radio. Bundle home

(35:51):
on auto with Farmers Insurance and you could save an
average We know a thing or two about how to
save a buck or two farmers to get a quote today.
Are Farmers whe AFAG saving under in my firms for
fair insurance exchanges and ahiliates probably not available in every state.
This is my theme song in college, folks in my
own mind. Return of the Mac Baby back here on

(36:13):
Fox Sports Radio. So I don't think we've taken a
call on the show probably like three months. You guys know.
Coward was the guy who brought me out here, so
I'm friendly with him for a while, and when you know,
I always ask him for tips and thoughts. First thing,
don't take calls. Just don't don't do it. I'm taking
a call, Gary, and Jacksonville wants to put me on

(36:33):
blast for an incorrect prediction. Gary Jacksonville, Hey, good morning man.
How's life in Jacksonville? Yeah, of course, Oh yeah, how
cold saws his job? Thirty nine games under five hundred
as a GM is beyond me. But jackson you said
called my Dolphins winless in the preseason. Maybe we're closer

(36:54):
to five than windless. And and they traded everybody as
Brian Flores. Hey, congratulations, Gary, thanks for the call. He's right,
Gary is right. I don't I did. I can't believe
I said windless. I mean that was that's bad. Come on, no,
he's going winless? That was dumb. Yeah, four games in right,

(37:18):
they were like getting but they had like the historical. Yeah,
I think Football Outsider said after four games they were
one of the worst NFL teams ever. But by the way,
can we just say the Patriots defense was extremely over overrated?
Oh my gosh, geez um. But now listen, Gary's right.
Dolphins turned it around. Brian flores Uh shipped Kenyan Drake
out of town. I saw a stat that they played

(37:39):
more um guys who had a minimum contract than anyone
else in the NFL. The guys just pulling in. Dudes,
come on in and they just jumped into the scheme.
That says good things about flores Um. I don't know
about the Chan Gailey offensive coordinator hiring, but that's for
another day. Alright, real quick on Kyle Kuzma. So Anthony
Davis did not play last night. He's out with that

(38:01):
back injury after that scary fall um, But they didn't
need Anthony Davis, not when Kuzuma is going for twenty six.
He went off early. Lebron had thirty five and sixteen.
It's pretty clear when Lebron faces Luca, he wants to
put on a show because everybody knows that. You know,
Luca is the real deal. But so, Kevin, where are

(38:22):
you when this should Should they trade Kyle Kuzma? I
think I think Lebron will trade Kyle Kuzma. I agree
with you, and I think this is the perfect time
to get his value all the way up there. I mean,
look at him last night. Um yeah, I mean with
a D on the sideline, He's gonna have a bigger role.
Perfect time. It's so strange though, the national perception of

(38:45):
Kyle Kuzma is, my gosh, that guy's overrated. Well he
is a little bit he's been when there was that
bogged on stuff and they were going, oh, the Lakers
should trade him for bogg don you know who says no, Um, no, Okay,
Kuzma is not as good as well. One of the
guys plays defense, and Kuzma does it. Now Kuzma cat

(39:05):
and play defense is just not really into it. Um. Lakers.
By the way, we're talking about trading Kuzma. Lakers are
number one in point differential, lead the West by four
and a half. Sorry, number one in point to FRONTI
in the West lead the West by four and a
half over Denver and the Clippers. But you know, Kuzma, again,
this is not about Kyle Kuzma. It's more about how

(39:27):
are they going to defend Kauai and uh Paul George
in the playoffs. Now, I got a text yesterday, Jason,
do you want to come to Lakers Clippers the last
weekend January? They play again? Right? I can't go because
I'll be in Miami for the super Bowl. But that
will be the game. I'm telling you Gavin right now.
If they go oh and three against the Clippers and
Kauai has like another thirty plus and they can't stop

(39:48):
Paul George, They're gonna make a move to get a defender.
They're just gonna do it. It's less about Kuzma, right,
would you agree? It's not like they don't like Kuzma.
They need a win defender. So uh, no panic in the
the Lakers. By the way, from the Clippers, I just
totally benched Kawai and PG in that next game. Don't
give them the excitement over coming up next here on

(40:10):
Fox Sports Radio. So the Patriots lost, we all got
a good laugh, But what is next? Tom Brady, Julian Edelman,
Josh McDaniel's what's happening? Our number two here on Fox
Sports Radio. It's your boy, Jason McIntyre coming to you
live from the guy called Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen

geiko dot com for a free rate quote. Here's I'm
just gonna start the second hour with an incredible freaking
stat amazing. Are you ready? Aaron Rodgers when leading at

(40:52):
halftime at Lambeau in his career. This comes from the
Fox research team, which is just blowing me away with
awesome number all season. Aaron Rodgers when leading at halftime
at Lambeau in his career, sixty two one and one.
I know in game wagering is a thing, it's becoming
more and more prevalent um. If Aaron Rodgers is leading

(41:14):
at the half sixty two one and one at Lambeau,
why not just throw a C note on Packers money
line if they're up at halftime? Just do it now.
The problem is you gotta face Russell Wilson, and you
know Russell Wilson's a backdoor cover guy, So that four
and four and a half is a little dangerous first
hour in the books. Um, A lot of NFL college

(41:35):
football we now are Big ten correspondent Iowa Sam in
the house. Um, I'm gonna ask him for his quick
pick before we get to the NFL on Clemson l
s U Monday night. But first I do have to
remind you want to hear something amazing. Discover matches all

two good NFL playoff games this afternoon. It's so amazing.
My hashtag dad life my son's basketball team. We got
a game at noon today and it lines up perfectly

(42:17):
because the dads are like, oh man, you know the
schedules all Saturday games are we gonna miss the NFL playoffs.
I'm like, games at noon, we should be out of
there by one. Kickoff is one thirty Pacific time. This
is amazing. This is perfect. By the way, we are
one in oh after pulling an outright upset last week. Um,
we want eighteen to fifty very low score. Again, that

(42:38):
sounds like not exciting, but man, um, you guys know
I love to put together a defensive game plan. And
I know some parents driving kids to games this morning.
We're probably listening in the league because you know, hey,
it's that guy who's on TV and radio. Oh, I
see him over there, and I'm trying to be inconspicuous. Um,
we held their best players scoreless because we had a

(42:58):
defensive game plan. That's just I'm telling you. I learned
from Jerry Tarkanian. The Amiba defense very nerdy. I don't
even care. It's very nerdy, but uh yeah, so, uh
that's that's our strategy. Win with defense. You know, we
break the huddle one to three defense. I'm such a
nerd when it comes to dead. My daughter has her
season opening first grade game today Sunday. It's awesome. It's

(43:22):
my birthday Sunday, and I gotta coach girls basketball game. Uh,
and then watch a bunch of NFL so big big
weekend of parents sports and live sports. Now. Yeah, all right.
I always say you're back. I just want to quickly.
We'll do more on it later. Clemson l s U.
What's your early your early thoughts on the game winner?

(43:45):
Is it close? Is it blowout? I've been on l
s U since about what week three? Or four and
they just they've have been demolishing everybody. Right, I think
I like them. What's the what's the line right now?
I saw six and a half. I like them to
cover that six and a half. So I'm thinking seven
to ten points they went by. That would be a

(44:07):
little surprising. I mean, they're just did you know trust
Lawrence has never lost a games? Listen, when he gets
the NFL, He's gonna lose games, because doesn't matter how
good you are, you're gonna lose a few games. Yeah.
I wonder who's gonna tank for him. Um, that'll be interesting,
all right? Back to the NFL. So, UM, I was
looking at all four games and if you guys follow
me on Instagram or social media or whatever, you know

(44:29):
my picks because I do a video for Fox Sports,
and um, I may have to make picks every week
up and down season was winning on the NFL last
weekend blood bath oh three and one, folks. I had
the Buffalo Bills. They led sixty nothing and then it
was an epic choke job. I mean, Josh Allen, I'm

(44:51):
I'm surprised they did not give him a breathalyzer. Uh
in the fourth quarter he looked drunk, did he not
like some of these decisions like third and long, I'm
gonna take a sack and push out of out of
field goal range. Fourth, doubt, I'm gonna take another sack
and then that pitch and over it. I mean, just
I don't know, Josh out, So that killed me. Carson
Wentz getting knocked out in the first quarter, Yeah, that
didn't help. I had the Saints, which was you know,

(45:14):
I was okay with losing that because I'm a kirk
Cousins guy. You guys know, I'm the only inhabitant of
kirk Cousins Island. Um, although there is a boat coming
in with a lot of people, could just be tourists.
And then if the Niners kicked their teeth in, maybe
they turn around and leave um. And then the other
game was I like the Patriots convincingly and I've never

(45:36):
seen a performance like that from the Patriots in the playoffs.
My Jets knocked him off with Mark Sanchez about a
decade ago. And I just the Patriots did not score
in the second half. Julian Edelman a drop and You're like, oh,
it's just so uncharacteristic. Well, he's thirty four years old
in a couple of months and he led the NFL
and drops. I mean it feels like the end of

(45:58):
an era in New England. To McDaniels, of course, just
interviewed for the Brown's job, he could be leaving. They
lose Joe Judge, I know you have strong Joe Judge
shakes who We're gonna get to them? Uh, next hour?
I or actually knowing about thirty minutes Joe Judge to
the Giants. But the one that really hurt was Carson

(46:19):
Wentz going down. I really like the Eagles there. So
what game this weekend is a most likely upset in
the NFL? We have two nearly double digit favorites and
the Chiefs and Ravens. Although I haven't checked in the
last twenty minutes, but here's an incredible stat. NFL playoffs
all right, dating back to the two thousand ten playoffs,

(46:43):
the last seven teams to lay ten plus in the
postseason all covered. So the last seven double digit favorites
are seven or no against the spread. But here's the shocker.
They were all at home and they all want by
an average of nineteen points. So if you're laying double
digits this round, there's a good good chance you're gonna

(47:08):
cover with ease. That's the that's only seven games, tiny
sample size, but the big, the big thing people are
missing And it's okay, I understand why you guys are
missing this. Hey, I just saw the Vikings last week.
They look good. The Titans really look good. Who's gonna
stop Derrick Henry? And then you remember who they're playing? Oh,

(47:28):
the Ravens. Yeah, they haven't lost since September. Oh that's right.
The Ravens are really good. I haven't seen them play
in three weeks. Their starters took off week seventeen, then
they had to buy. Oh that's right, the Ravens are
gonna destroy the Titans. I totally forgot how good the
Ravens are and that's why this is happening. And you guys,
I'm trying to help everybody do a little better on

(47:51):
on on how to read the gambling world, and I
wish I I'm continuing to get better at it all
the time. I mean, hell, I just want O three
and one last weekend. I I but I love my process.
The results just weren't there. And like you've got Number
one is you've got to forget what you just saw,
you just gotta forget about. It's like a cornerback who

(48:12):
gets beat on a touchdown. You've got to have that
mentality that I'm still the man. I don't care. I'm
coming back. I'm gonna shut you down. You're not gonna score.
And it's funny because you'll see these cornerbacks pop up
and all of a sudden, it's like they're talking trash.
I'm like, you just got beat on a touchdown. That's
gotta be your mentality. I don't care about what just happened.
Now is a new story. I don't care what happened

(48:36):
last weekend. I don't care that the Texans came back
and gotta win. I don't care that the Titans through
for seventy two yards but still beat the Patriots because
of Derrick Henry and the in that Patriots offense. I
don't care Andy Reid eighteen and three off of buy
in his last twenty one games. Folks, the Houston Texans

(48:56):
have started their last two playoff games down at the half.
I believe it's thirty zero that was against the Colts,
or maybe it's thirty nothing. Colts and the the Bills
shut out at home in both games. Come on, how

(49:16):
comical is that Bill O'Brien is the worst coach left
in the playoffs. I think that's undeniable. And then you've
got the worst defense left in the playoffs. Remember what
is the worst red zone defense in the NFL? Take
a guess, Houston Texans. What is what defense gave up

(49:40):
the most yards per play in the NFL this year? Well,
there's two of them. The Bengals who have the first pick,
and oh yeah, the Houston Texans. I'm telling you this
game could be a blood bath. Now. If it wasn't
for Deshaun Watson, I would say this game is already over.
They got no chance. I do like Watson. They'll be plucky.
Watson's not a quitter. He doesn't usually get blown out,

(50:03):
although the Ravens put on put it on him earlier
this year and they kind of got blown out by
Drew Lock and the Broncos at home. So I irrationally
like the Chiefs and I irrationally like the Ravens. Now Gavin,
when I mentioned who's the most likely upset? If I
asked you who's the most likely upset this weekend, what

(50:25):
would you go? I would go Seattle and I have
gunn in Seattle. Oh you're picking the Seahawks. Yes, Um,
I trust Russell Wilson. I know he has had trouble
in Green Bay in the past. But you know what,
this Green Bay team has never convinced me all season.
They haven't been that impressive. I will bet on the
better quarterback in that game. Better quarterback. Six touchdowns, four

(50:50):
picks for Aaron Rodgers this year. Yeah, not not that
impressive to me. Um. And then you look at the
actual you know, the Winds losses, and you know Aaron
Rodgers has not been putting up the gaudy numbers we've
seen in years past. And Russell Wilson has kept the
Seahawks in every single game pretty much, and you look

(51:11):
at the injuries he's had around him. How how about
this stet? The Packers beat the Lions twice and they
led for a total of zero seconds combined. They won
both games at the Horn on a field goal against
the Lions. David Blouse Lions. I always say, if I
asked you for an NFL upset this weekend, most likely

(51:35):
your answer would be I echo, Gavin. I'm a Packer fan,
and I think that this cl Seahawks have the best
chance here. Second. Um, maybe a little bit of a
distant second, I would say probably the Vikings of the Niners,
and with that that would be mine. Actually I think,
and I don't love the Vikings in this spot I did.
That was an impressive win for Kirk Cousins. You guys
know I'm a fan. Here's why I I just I

(51:59):
don't know about the Miners when you look at their
history at quarterback, Jimmy Garopolo, how many playoff games? How
many playoffs starts? Zero? Kyle Shanahan, how many playoff coaching
games as a head coach? Zero? Like that is not
ideal heading into a game where you're a touchdown favorite. Now, Um,

(52:21):
the Niners down the stretch were not that impressive. Remember
the crushed Green Bay and they have five wins by
over fourteen points this year. But down the stretch they
lost to Baltimore by three. That was a good showing.
They beat the Saints by two, good showing. Lost by
seven to the Falcons that was final play loss. Beat

(52:41):
the Rams by three, beat the Seahawks by five. So
a lot of close games lately. Now, Yes, three of
those five teams were playoff teams. Um, but the Niners
are healthy this weekend, which is scary. D Ford their
pass rusher uh six and a half sacks, second on
the team. He's back, apparently, is gonna be situational. Um,

(53:02):
just on passing downs like J. J. Watt last week
versus the Bills. Kwan Alexander probably their best linebacker or
second best because Warner had a great year. Kwan Alexander's
supposed to play. He's back, and their safety Tart, who's
pretty underrated, he is back. Um. I'm gonna leave you
with this nugget before we go to break the Minnesota Vikings.

(53:22):
According to Football Outsiders and the End Advanced Stats, Minnesota
Vikings have a five point seven percent chance to win
the Super Bowl. That's fourth this weekend, ahead of the Seahawks,
ahead of the Packers. If you care, Ravens forty three
percent chance to win the Super Bowl, Chiefs eighteen, Niners fifteen.

(53:46):
I would go with my most likely chance of an
upset as the Vikings. Um, but I'm still teasing the
Niners down to win. I think a Ravens Niners, Ravensigners
Chiefs teaser like a seven point Teasers Probably the way
to go. You go through seven, you go through three.

(54:06):
Boy coming up next, By the way, if you do
a money line, parlay on that, it's about even money.
So on those three I loved that earlier. That's not bad. No,
I mean what you know, listen vikings Vike, he's kind
to scare me, but you know, theland's ankles cut. He
hasn't been able to practice. Um. I bet Minnesota in

(54:27):
the race to ten points. I just there's something about
the not like the factor that the forty Niners haven't
been in the playoffs, and that that team overall and
just you know, maybe Jimmy throws a pick six early
and things just don't start. I still think they win,
but I don't think it's going to be an easy
first half for the Niners. Alright, coming up next year

(54:50):
on Fox Sports Radio. First time guest on the show,
a sports psychologist. This is fascinating stuff. We always try
to be armchair. Everybody does. If you're on TV radio,
you're trying to play arms series, armchair psychologist. Who's got motivation,
who doesn't, who's gonna show up, who's not? All those
questions answered next here on Fox Sports Radio. Back here

(55:13):
on Fox Sports Radio. It's me Jason McIntyre. Fun little
nugget I forgot to drop in last segment, and this
stuff matters the Tennessee Titans. Before you think, oh, Derrick Henry,
Oh it's so good. It's so tough to tackle him.
This is their third road trip in three weeks. They
were at the Texans in week seventeen at the Patriots,

(55:37):
and now the Titans traveled to Baltimore and uh, besides
the travel, Derrick Henry, now I know this isn't cross
country travel. These are kind of regional trips. Umh Tennessee
to Houston. Kind of regional Um. Derrick Henry sixty seven
touches in the last two weeks. Sixty seven. That's a

(55:59):
lot of football, all for a large man. I want

joining the show now for the first time, first time guest,

(56:22):
Let's welcome in Dr John Murray. He is, and his
bio says he's America's most quoted sports psychologist. That's a
pretty I had to laugh at that, John. I don't
know how you quantify that, but I did like it.
He's written a book, the Mental Performance Index, ranking the
best teams in Super Bowl history. Uh, John, welcome into

(56:43):
the show. Hey Jason, great to be on your show.
You're the you're the most quoted person on radio. So
there we go. Or even though I like it, all right,
so John, like, Um, I'm trying to go big picture here.
One of the things we do with gambling and trying
to guests who's going to win the games this weekend? Um,
is we try to get inside the head of athletes,

(57:06):
whether it's college football Clemson, Let's let's use that as
an example, right, Clemson L s U. Awesome game Monday night.
Clemson has four team players who suited up, fourteen starters
who suited up last year in the championship game. L
s U has none. From a psychological perspective, Okay, how
do we quantify the experience that Clemson had last year

(57:30):
in the playoff and L s U has none? Can
we can we quantify that well, that's a great question.
I started this process back in the early two thousands,
and I looked at the team as a whole, and
what I found is that there's a lot of observable
mental factors that people have were ignoring, and for example,
how how will you avoid mistakes, turnovers, penalties, clock, mis management.

(57:52):
I can't really get into the you know, whether four
team players have been there before aspects, but I can
look at every single play, and I can look at
a number of statistical factors like consistency, and there's a
lot of things you'd be surprised. And what I found,
to my fascination was that despite the fact that no
one was really looking at mental performance or quantifying it,

(58:13):
it was by far the biggest factor in winning the
Super Bowl. If you look at any statistic, traditional statistics
and football turnovers tend to be huge. Well, this statistic
that I invented or kind of captured, let's say, was
almost twice as important as turnovers. So that's kind of
the way I do it. I've been doing this now

(58:34):
significantly as a predictor, and the last two two seasons,
I turned what I was initially using as a way
to capture performance and give coaches good feedback on their
teams in various aspects. I decided to turn that into
a prediction machine and that's what I've been having fun
with the last couple of years. All Right, So we're
talking with John Murray, sports psychologist. So John, uh, you

(58:54):
know you don't you let's use Lamar Lamar Jackson as
an executure the ravens um I like to theorize, and
I've been saying, you know, basically since he took over
the middle of last season, teams that have never seen
his style a running quarterback more rp O than anybody. Um,
there is a shock to the system. And you know,

(59:17):
we saw the Chargers last year get obliterated by Lamar
Jackson and then in the playoffs, having seen him, they
did well. The Tennessee Titans have not seen him, psyche.
Is there any psychological aspect to whoa You know, last
week we saw Tom Brady the ultimate pocket guy, what
won't scramble ever under any circumstances. Now you've got the opposite. Well, absolutely,

(59:40):
Novelty is always difficult to deal with and the Titans,
you know, dealing with the traditional style of Brady are
going to be in for a shock. And not only
as you mentioned, they haven't seen that, but this guy
is twice as fast as anybody ever seen. I mean
he he makes everybody else look like they're in slow motion.
So you got and what's exciting for me as he
was right to our backyard here in Plaint Beach. You
went to Blintain Beach High School or whatever. So I'm

(01:00:02):
really excited to see that game. I think that I
really think the Ravens are a much better team. Tennessee
has that beast that we're running back, and then Tannehill
has been playing well, but I think the Ravens are
just far superior to them, and a big part of
that's going to be Lamar. So John, can I ask
what was the driving force? Why did you start to
try to convert the mental aspect of this into predictions,

(01:00:25):
Like what what was the driving force? Back in the day,
I was working with some NFL teams and I was
shocked at how some of them, we're reluctant to do
this regularly. They'd bring me in when there was a problem,
when when a player wanted to retire with quarterback was struggling,
and so forth. And I can recall one top coach
for one team, saying I can't stand up in front
of my team and tell them they have a psychologist,

(01:00:45):
as if there was some chain to me getting two
master's degrees in a PhD and making my career focus
on helping people perform better. So I wanted to see
how I could contribute. And what I found, to my amazement,
is that mental performance has always been talked about. I
mean it was. It was important in the caveman days
when you had to throw a spear and you know,
when you're fighting a battle in Greece. It was always important,

(01:01:07):
but we never captured statistically. So I decided to make
it a mission to figure out how I could quantify
that aspect of performance. And so that was kind of
a way to politically show people how important the mental
game was, so that they could value it more because
they were not giving it the value that it needed.
That's good stuff. Now, John, let me go from a
personal experience. So I heard this, uh you know this story.

(01:01:29):
You know this, I guess an anecdote. Okay, so we
are kind of born pessimists, right, And the story that
I jokingly heard I've told on this show before. You know,
hundreds of years ago, a pessimist and an optimist were
in the woods and they hear a lion roar, and
the pessimist says, oh, lion, I'm out of here. And
the optimist says, it's not it's probably not a lion.
Let's not worry about it. Pessimist says, I'll see you

(01:01:50):
back at the camp. And you know, the pessimist gets
back to the camp and the optimist gets killed. And
we're born pessimists, right, And I myself am trying to
get out of that negative mindset. You know. Um can
athletes do the same thing of getting Like Lamar Jackson
was awful last year in the playoffs. Now he's going
to go understap off of bye week. How do you

(01:02:10):
get out of that negative mindset and turn it positive?
It's not easy. No, it's not that that that makes
up what I do in my day job. I mean,
my fun my passion is like you, I know you
love football. I've been listening to you talk about Clemson
the last couple of days, and I know how excited
you are about football in the same way I. But
in my day job, I help people to be more confident,
more focused, more positive, more optimistic and how does that happen.

(01:02:34):
It happens when you realize that thoughts are just behaviors.
So you have a certain set of thoughts that are habits,
and I get in there and I help you change
those habits. Sometimes it might be through imagery or goal setting.
Help helping you holding you excuse me, accountable to your
thoughts as behaviors, and we try to change those thoughts
to being more productive independent of whether you're winning or losing.

(01:02:56):
That's a big thing. And sometimes everybody is confident when
they win. Of course that's easy to do, right when
you win, you're going to be confident. How do you
do that when you're getting killed? So I try to
I try to encourage that. It's kind of a weird mindset,
but it's what you need to be the best, all right,
Before getting to the gambling. UH this weekend, one more question.
We're talking with John Murray, the sports psychologist. UH. They
call him the Freud of football. I kind of like that.

(01:03:17):
It's got a good ring to it. John. UM, I
just want to ask, are there any examples you're allowed
to give out of players, maybe somebody retired who you've
worked with or maybe without using their name, just an
aspect of something you said to him that helped, you know,
with a playoff push or what have you. No, I
mean there's a there's a number of quotes on my website. Uh.
I don't know if you want to give that out,

(01:03:38):
but but yeah, UM, where should I go. It's John F. Murray,
my name John F. Murray dot com. And you'll see
a number of quotes across the board from various sports,
from various athletes. UM, recent NBA player, you know, quarterbacks
that played NFL football. UM, I'm probably knowing a little
bit for a comeback in tennis history. That was the
biggest comeback with a with a tennis player. This now retired.

(01:04:01):
So there's been a lot of exciting opportunities to do
these kinds of things with players and it's pretty much proven. Um.
I don't like to brag about it. I have to
be careful what I say. But if they give me
a quote, it becomes kind of public information, all right.
So let's get to the games. John Mr Murray, Dr
John F. Murray. Uh, this weekend NFL games. Is there

(01:04:21):
one that jumps out to you or stands out as
a best bet? If you will using your m P.
I yeah, a little a brief caveat the playoffs are
harder to pick than the regular season. I have two
job of programs that run this thing crazy, and you
have thirty two teams with interactions. When you get into
the playoffs, it's a little more difficult. But let's take

(01:04:41):
a look at this. I think the Ravens look really, really,
really strong, and I think they're going to easily cover
that spread of nine and a half points. So that's
one I would go for if I had to pick one,
that would be the one that I think is going
to cover easiest. Um. Taking a look at the Chiefs
and Texans, I think again. You know, you mentioned the
fact that the favorites have covered how many in seven

(01:05:03):
in a row? Right playoffs? Wow, he isn't listening to
the show. That's good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I'm not.
I'm not ignoring you there, Jason, You're good. Now. I
think the Chase will cover pretty easily and that the
other two are closer games. But I really think the
Seahawks have a good chance to to, you know, to
cover that plus four point five. I guess it's up
to right now. Um, I just I just love Russell Wilson.

(01:05:25):
Despite how great Aaron Rodgers is, I don't think he's
as good lately. So we'll see what happens. All right. Well,
we'll get you out of here with this. Dr John F. Murray,
renowned sports psychologist. Do you have a read on Clemson
L s U? I mean, I don't know how much
this goes into it, but the general public they just
you know, they bet on what they last saw. And
everybody and their mom is betting L s U against Clemson.

(01:05:47):
The number six six and a half. It might hit
seven on midday. Any any read on this game? Well,
I think I think anytime the public is on something,
run the other direction. That's what I've learned if I've
learned anything. And you know, and I'm not a gambler,
but I do take my picks very seriously. And there's
a complete ignorance, uh in the media and the general media.

(01:06:10):
You're not gonna get the right story there. So do
I have a read on this particular game. I don't
know if I do, But let's just let's say, let's
say Clemon. I'll go on with you and say Clemson.
All right, so check out his website? Uh W w
W John F. Murray dot com. Uh and listen the
Football Shrink, the freud of football. He's got a lot

(01:06:30):
of nicknames, John Murray. I like it. John, Hey, thanks
for having you. Will definitely bring you back for maybe
March Madness to the NBA playoffs and people work. Thanks Jason,
all right, that was Dr John F. Murray, really interesting stuff.
I think we're gonna have to do a follow up
to that, but first let's go to Isaac Loewen Crown
with the latest in sports, Jason Busy. Friday night in

(01:06:53):
the NBA, starting in Dallas, where the Los Angeles Lakers,
playing without the injured Anthony Davis one anyway, by fifteen
over the Mavericks for their seventh straight win. They scored
seventy nine points in the first half. Lebron James thirty
five points, sixteen rebounds, seven assists. Kyle Kuzuma scored a
season high twenty six Lakers now thirty one and seven,
Milwaukee now thirty four and six. After a twenty one

(01:07:16):
point victory at Sacramento, Memphis defeated Santa Antonio one thirty
four to one. One Grizzlies on a fourth game winning
streak and have moved in to the eighth and final
playoff spot in the Western Conference. John Moran twenty two
points and fourteen assists. Brandon Ingram scored twenty eight as
New Orleans beat the Knicks at the Garden. Pelicans have
won seven of nine. Brooklyn broke a seven game losing

(01:07:39):
streak with a victory over the Heat. Spencer Dimwitty twenty
six points and a career high fourteen assists and finally
an NFL note in advance at tomorrow's game against the Seahawks.
The Green Bay Packers have just asked for three hundred
and fifty helpers to help shovel snow from lambeau Field
on Sunday morning. The shovelers will get twelve bucks an

(01:08:00):
hour for their work. Do I hear a Jason McIntyre
show field trip? Jason? Are you twelve dollars an hour?
I pay a babysitter more, Isaac, you have kids? You
know what the babysitters cost out here? Oh? My, I
ever twelve dollars to shovel snow. Apparently the cost of living. Yeah,

(01:08:21):
even even with the cost of living adjustment from southern
California to Wisconsin. Are you come on Isaac, you know
what are you more likely to do get injured throwing
out your back, shoveling in the snow for twelve bucks
an hour, or babysitting. I'm staying home. I'm staying are you?
That is? I would say, I'm listen, you're our Mr
Midwest Guy, Big ten correspondent. Twelve dollars an hour is

(01:08:44):
at the going rate. It's kind of listen the UH.
I don't know what Wisconsin's minimum wages, but in Iowa,
I still believe it's seven twenty five, which is the
federal minimum wage standard. And you can't survive on seven
twenty five, as they say, and you can't really survive
on twelve dollars an hour, especially doing hard manual labor
like shoveling snow. Here's the thing. Green Bay packer fans

(01:09:06):
are just so happy the packers are right there in
town that they'll do anything for the packers, including shoveling
snow and throwing out their back. But this is the
same with the Buffalo bills. Wouldn't they're paying what ten
dollars an hour? Like last year? Anybody can attest to
that it was like ten bucks an now or something
like that. That's criminal. It's kind of criminal. It's kind
of like, uh, you know, it's like we're all getting

(01:09:27):
together having some fun. But you know it's kind of
free labor, almost free labor. Yeah, I don't know about that.
Temporary parking is available in lots six, but vehicles must
be removed from Lots six when shoveling is complete. Thanks
for helping. Here's your twelve bucks. Now get out the
What do you think the green packers are worth? Maybe

(01:09:47):
two billion dollars? I mean, cowboys are worth a lot.
Packers have to be one of the most. They're they're
worth plenty, and they can you know, and they're they're
they're paying guys twelve bucks and now that's oh, but
you know what they're there. I'm sure there are people
that will do it. How there are people that will
do it happen. I remember shoveling as a kid, and
I think I charged like ten dollars. And now you
were probably probably twelve years old, Green grown ups twelve

(01:10:11):
that come on, unbelievable. Back here on Fox Sports Radio,
I am your host, Jason McIntyre, coming to you live
from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's easy to
say fift or more on car insurance with Geico. Go
to Geico dot com call one eight nine seven otto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.

(01:10:33):
All right, So college football Media Day is happening in
Baton Rouge, l s U and Clemson Uh their players
are taking the podium. Gavin is monitoring that in case anyway,
Babbo Sweeney said he did not see Joe Burrows Heisman speech.
He's a fan of the quarterback, but apparently he didn't
see his speech. Interest I haven't. I haven't seen it. Really,

(01:10:54):
it was a great one. I mean I saw like
the tears, but I didn't listen to the actual speech.
I guess I'll go check it out at the next
How much of a home field advantage do you think
LSU will have in New Orleans? Will that be a factor?
L s U maybe more? Yeah, Dabbo has said this
will be a road game. We might as well be

(01:11:15):
playing in Baton Rouge. So I thought the game was
in Battle Rouge or is it in I thought it
was a New I think it's a New Orleans, New Orleans. Okay, Um,
all right, well, it's still it's an hour away. You know,
if you're a Clemson fan two weeks ago, you flew
out too, didn't they play that in Like was it
Santa Clara? Yes? Yea somewhere on the West coast. I mean,
are you springing for another trip if you're a Clemson booster?

(01:11:38):
Oh yeah? Two dollar bills and all man two dollars.
They have to allocate tickets kind of fairly though, don't they. Jason? Yeah,
but I know it's in the States. Are you going
again after just going to a house? Are you selling
them for a lot of money to This is for
all the fruits and bananas out there, man, This is
for everything. So you gotta hang on, hang on, hang

(01:11:59):
out in like the what do they call that? The
district there where the beads and the girls and the
here's a question for you it Clemson pulls off the
upset and then they're walking to their bus. What's the
percentage that they get beat up as they're walking? All right?
So listen. The last guest we had was John Murray,
sports psychologist. I'm gonna go to his website during the
next break. Um, I don't know if some of the

(01:12:21):
great stuff he said will apply to what I'm about
to talk about. But the New York Giants made a
quick hire. It seemed like they wanted Matt Rule. He
the bailor coach. Of course, I went to Carolina for
big Bucks. And there was a massive outcry when the
Giants hired this guy, Joe Judge. Okay, Judge Joe Brown.

(01:12:41):
Ha ha ha um. Who is this guy? He's a
special team's coach on the Patriots. What And instantly it
was like, well, why didn't they hire a black coach?
And first of all, I think that's the wrong tact.
You can't just say, hey, nobody hired a black coach.
You need to hire You can't do that. You know,
I have the best guy for the job. Now, is

(01:13:02):
there a problem with when like what sev of the
NFL is African Americans or minorities and they're like four
had four percent of the head coaches are black? The
players are my notes, Yeah, that it doesn't look great.
But I'm gonna argue I'm not defending the NFL, and
I'm arguing this aspect of it. Okay, if you are

(01:13:28):
Eric b Enemy, right, you're working with Patrick Mahomes and
Andy Reid. Andy Reid is going to be a Hall
of Famer and Patrick Mahomes is incredible. Do you want
to leave your job and take one of these crap
jobs that's being offered? Garbage? That's what these Some of

(01:13:48):
these openings are garbage. So you gonna get fired in
a year or two or three, and then where are
You're back to square one? Because I'm gonna ask you
if you're Todd Bowles. He took the Jets job. They
gave him four years, He was terrible, he was fired.
Is Todd Bowles gonna be a head coach again? He
got a shot with the Jets. Bad organization. Hey man,

(01:14:10):
that's my team. It's a bad organization. I don't think
he's gonna be a head coach again. Ask yourself. Is
Hugh Jackson gonna be a head coach again? He got
a shot with Cleveland. He was one of the worst
coaches in NFL history by his record. Is he gonna
be head coach again? He wanted to be a coach.
He got it Vance Joseph remember him, got a job bounced, terrible.

(01:14:36):
He makes a good coordinator. Is he gonna be a
head coach again? You gotta be careful by the job
you pick. Steve Wilkes. He was a head coach two
years ago the Cardinals for one year, epic disaster bounced.
Is he gonna be a head coach again? All those
organizations stink Denver. I know you'll make an exception. He

(01:14:56):
they got Peyton Manning. Peyton wanted to play with all
Way blah blah blah, play four always sorry, But Cleveland Jets, Cardinals,
these are bad franchises. You, yes, you obviously want the
offer to turn down. But if the offers are only
coming from bad teams who are historically bad franchises with
bad owners, do you really want that? Or do you

(01:15:18):
want to stay in your good job? I mean, Eric
the enemy, we don't know how good he is. The
Chief's offense has been awesome. Andy Reid has been awesome everywhere.
Patrick Mahomes has been awesome in the NFL. Is that
because of the enemy, because of Red We don't know.
The enemy has been an offensivecorded for two years, and
now every NFL media member wants to thrust him in

(01:15:38):
because he's a black guy. That's the wrong mentality. I
like the enemy. I think he should get a look soon.
I don't think right now here is what's difficult with
the offensive coordinators. Joe Burrow of LSU last year sixteen TVs.
Five interceptions ordinary he brings they get. Joe Brady is

(01:15:59):
the offensive cops dater fifty five touchdown passes. We know
Joe Brady is a difference maker a lot of these
those seas we don't know. It's tough for the enemy.
I think he's good. Would I have taken the enemy
over Joe Judge, You're damn right. I would have. But
then again, I would take Lincoln Riley in Oklahoma over

(01:16:20):
Eric the enemy. I mean, it's not as cut and
dry as we need more black coaches. I you gotta
be careful to job you take. Guys. You go to
a good franchise, smart, good people, you're gonna be in
good shape. You go to a crappy one, you might
not get another job as a head coach. Coming up
next year on Fox Sports Radio, Oh boy, Mike McCarthy,

(01:16:45):
I'll just come out clean and say it, guys, did
he lie to Jerry Jones. There's some evidence his own
quotes that he might have. That's next year on Fox
Sports Radio. Winter means it's time to bundle up your insurance.
Bundle home on auto with farmers, and you save an
average of farmers to get a quote today farmers might

(01:17:07):
afa saving under in my firms for my fair insurance
exchanges and Aphilate's probably unvlable every state. What is this?
I don't know what that is? I was sam Here
come the Judds Judge. Is that from a TV show
or song? Or what? Pig meat? Markham? Here comes the judge.

(01:17:32):
I don't even think my mom was in this country yet. Um,
I'm watching JM you baby, JMU versus North Dakota State here.
Kickoff is in ten minutes. I'm not waged on the game.
You guys know I graduated from jmu Um dukes. Let's
go all right. I always say I'm I don't not

(01:17:54):
really feel I don't know, it's just some craziness. You're
into that? What just trying to stay topical because you're
talking at Joe Judge. Have you seen Sammy Davis Jr.
Going Here comes to judge, Here comes to judge. I
think I might have seen that coming. I'm younger than you,
and I know these historical You're you're a music guy, bro,
you're a history guy. Had that history discussion? Should you

(01:18:14):
study history. Well, I saw nineteen seventeen last night. Fantastic.
How was that unbelievable? That good? Better than Bombshell? I
haven't seen bombs better than uncut Gems, haven't seen that either.
I'm gonna go out on a record I haven't even
seen it yet and say it's better than both of those.
I don't know about Bombshell, but it's definitely better than Uncut.
I've heard the cinematography in this movie is insane. Who
made it? Pretty? Neat? Sam Mendez? Oh, he's good, very good.

(01:18:37):
Is the American beauty? I don't believe. So, No, that's
Sam somebody I think. Um. Anyways, I wanted to quickly
go through, uh, this Mike McCarthy thing. So Cowboys picked
Mike McCarthy. Just two quick little things, probably only interesting
to me. Number One, as recently as yesterday, he had

(01:18:58):
met the media and they asked if he had talked
to Dak Prescott. Oh, I've been super busy. I haven't
talked to Dak Prescott yet. Really, really, Mike McCarthy, it
was like the I mean, this is the one of
the biggest high profile quarterback free agent franchise tag situations
in the league, and you haven't talked to him. I

(01:19:18):
found that interesting. Okay. So the next aspect in his
in his interview with Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones, McCarthy
impressed them. He kind of kissed the ring and bowed
down and said, oh yeah, I've watched every player of
the season of the Cowboys, Oh my gosh, every game.
So then the media followed up with so about the

(01:19:39):
games that you watch blah blah blah, and McCarthy had
to be like, well, well, I mean I told them
I watched it, but I didn't actually do it and
watch every game. Like, let that sink in. You go
to a job interview and lie to get the job, Hey,
Ben the truth. We've all done it. But I just
wonder McCarthy, right, he's fifth six. Uh. It ended ugly

(01:20:03):
with Aaron Rodgers. I mean, you know, we don't know.
I talked about Eric b Enemy. We don't know how
good he is. But do we know how good Mike
McCarthy is. Guys, Let's be real. He's had Aaron Rodgers
his entire career. Aaron Rodgers all time great quarterback, Top
ten makes place. Now I'm gonna put something out there.
This is fun. If you don't like it, you could

(01:20:24):
send it right back or keep it. What if Mike
McCarthy has this crazy idea, Hey man, we want to
win now, let's bring in Tom Brady, dak Prescott, whatever.
Let's bring in Tom Brady offensive line, skill position players.
Maybe we get to keep him. Marii, Cooper, Zeke, Why
don't we bring in Brady? Is McCarthy that crazy? Could

(01:20:47):
he do that? It's possible, folks. Feeling good? Everybody? I
hope you are too. High noon on the East Coast.
That means the j M you Duke's where I graduated from.
They are about to kick off the Division one Double
A championship, which just disappeared from the screen. Here, guys,

(01:21:08):
we needed on the screen jmu versus North Dakota State.
The text messages are rolling in from hashtag dad life.
You know it when third grade basketball games and people
love to text me. WHOA. Alright, let's start this final
hour of the show. We've done a lot of NFL,
a lot of college football. I've been holding off a

(01:21:30):
little bit on this NFL topic, but uh, we have
a great guest too, kind of makes sense of what
what just went down. What could go down? You know him,
you love him. Greg Badard of the Boston Sports Journal.
He's an entrepreneur, a former you like that, Greg, a
former writer who is still writing but now running his

(01:21:50):
own shop. Greg Bdard as plugged in on the Patriots
as anybody. How are you today? What's up to Mac?
I'm great, Uh, you know, I'm good. The Patriots have
done the seasons over, The dynasty's over. And you're probably
getting monster traffic on your website because you know, hey,
what's going on in Daniels b Is this Joe Judge

(01:22:11):
loss significant? And see oh yeah that guy Tom Brady. Yeah,
it's uh, it's a pretty bit busy time in Patriots Land.
But you know, I think unfortunately for um, you know
you Jets fans and other Patriots haters, I don't think
things are over quite yet. And why is that? Well,
I mean, I think at the end of the day,

(01:22:32):
I think Brady is gonna be back here. Um. It's
certainly complicated in terms of um cap and things like that,
but UM, I think Brady's belief all along, UM and
it's become more apparent in the in the past week
or so, is that he expects the Patriots too, you know,
especially with Robert Kraft and his feelings on this. He

(01:22:55):
he thinks the Patriots will you know, step up at
the end of the day and make sure that he back. Now,
is he being foolish about that? Maybe? Um? Will he
have to go out and get some leverage? Yeah? Maybe,
But I think that I think that the smart thing,
probably for all sides, is to you know, go with
this for another couple of years, and I think I

(01:23:17):
think they'll figure out a way to get that done
at the end of the day. Okay, so let's let's
start here. Brady, as I believe, he's never been the
highest paid quarterback in the NFL. That's clearly not happening
at forty two years old. However, do we know what
Brady wants? Do we know what he what kind of
numbers he is looking for from the Patriots? Because I
don't even think it's that, Jason. I think it's what

(01:23:37):
do you think it has showing the love? Yeah? Yeah, basically,
and and that that would put him right in line
with a bunch of other guys, including you know, people
that I've covered before like Dan Marino and Aaron Rodgers.
It's not Aaron Rodgers. But by farve, Um, these guys
are just you know, especially Brady with what he's gone
through with the Patriots and in Belichick. I mean really

(01:23:59):
he just the thing that he wants the most is
just for Belichick to show him a little bit of
respect and just say, you know, I appreciate what you've done. Um,
you're still a valued member of this team. We want
you here. If Brady hears things like that, the money
is very much second or third on the Lookay, so

(01:24:20):
it's Greg. It's one thing to say that. Look at
the history of Belichick. He's had Super Bowl m v ps,
best players on his team at least I think a
Super Bowl MVP, and he just said, hey, thank you
for your service. You know we're not paying I I don't.
I mean, I know it's Brady, but he did have
a down year. I believe seven of his final nine
games in the regular season it was like under fifty

(01:24:41):
six completions. Edelman thirty three turning thirty four led the
NFL and drops. There's no quick fix for Gronk. It
just seems like it's falling apart. Why would I don't
believe that, I mean I think that you know, I
think the big thing is with with Belichick, it's everything
is very simple. Everybody likes the make it out that
it's complicated in terms of you know what there, who's

(01:25:03):
going to start where, who's gonna do what? It's what
have you shown on film? What have you shown on
the practice field? And I'm sorry, I mean as as
a guy who studied Brady Um very closely over the
second half of his career. It's my opinion and I'm
and I think that Belichick's probably is along similar lines.
He is not going to come down and say that

(01:25:24):
Brady struggled this past year. I did not. I thought
Brady was worse the year before, and I thought Tom
played fine this year, and did he have some physical ailments. Yeah.
But I think that Bill at the end of the day,
when he studies the season, he'll come down and he'll
grade Brady just like anybody else, and he will not
think negatively of him. He'll think, you know what, I

(01:25:45):
really screwed the pooch in terms of what was around
him the offensive line. I gave him no tight ends.
I gave him no speed on offense. I mean, at
least the year before they had quarrel Patterson. They didn't
even have that this year. And I think I think
that where everything starts with Belichick, what's on film? How
good are you? And and as opposed to some of
these other guys like a Wes Welker, where you can

(01:26:07):
make the argument that he was going downhill and you know,
and there were other things with Welker, Um, you know,
the whole franchise tag here before they let him go. Um.
But I think that I think that Belichick will think
that Tom Brady is the best quarterback on this team.
In Belichick, We'll just realize, Belichick, the GM just needs
to do a better job and Tom would have been
fine this past year and they probably would have been

(01:26:28):
in the super Bowl. We'll talk with Greg Bedard of
the Boston Sports Journal at Greg A. Bdard on Twitter.
All Right, so, Greg, what happens if Josh McDaniels takes
the Cleveland job. That I don't I don't think. I
don't think the tour related at all. Um. In fact,
I know that to be true. They're they're they're they're
not related, and you know, it's more about I think

(01:26:51):
that Tom will realize at the end of the day,
it's you know, It's one thing to talk about leaving
and play the lever's game and all that, it's another
thing to actually go to another team. I mean, I
think he should do it because I think that change
is good for people, especially at this point in his career,
and could reinvigorate him and and you know, get him
another title like Peyton Manning. But you know the a

(01:27:13):
about McDaniels, You know, Cleveland is far from a done deal. Um.
You know, when he went there, it was more about
the Browns. We're gonna have to sell Josh on the
Browns than Josh was gonna have to sell himself because look,
let's be honest, that place is a total crap show.
And Jimmy Haslem doesn't know what the hell he's doing.
And until he says the right things in and aligns

(01:27:36):
the organized organization in a certain way, like you know,
a strong head coach who picks the GM and Paul D.
Bodesta gets out of the way, and Jimmy haslm isn't
talking to everybody every other week and and getting in
his coach's ear, nothing's gonna change in Cleveland. So I
think that's far from a done deal. Um, you know,
that being said, even if Josh does go, I don't

(01:27:58):
think that there's a plan as far as who's going
to run the offense. And that's a problem. I think
that the coaching was an issue this year on the
Patriots and something else Belichick needs to uh straighten out
in this offseason. But I don't think the tour are connected,
right Greg, Let me ask you New York's giants. Fans
want to know who the hell is Joe Judge? What
has he done? Where did this car? I didn't even

(01:28:20):
know he was a candidate a month ago. I didn't
know who this guy was a month ago. Yeah, I
mean I I didn't know he was going to be
a candidate, But I did right going into week seventeen
that I thought Joe Judge would be a dark horse
head coaching candidate because I think he has a really
good resume. I think he's a really good coach. He's
a no nonsense type of guy. He's not going to
be Mr. Personality. Um. I don't think I've seen him

(01:28:44):
smile all that much in his tenure with the Patriots,
not that that really matters, um, But you know, I
think he's a really good coach. I know um. Some
of the players had issues with the way he coached
the receivers, even though that wasn't his fault. I mean,
you know, splitting time between specialty like you know when,
and this happened in the last playoff game, third down
to kill Harry doesn't run his route the right way

(01:29:06):
and Joe Judge isn't there to coach him because he's
too busy getting the punt team ready. And you know, so,
I can tell you that some of the players on
the team are aren't sad to see him go from
the receiver's perspective, But I think overall he's a really
good coach. I have a lot of respect for special
teams coordinators because they have to deal with so much
on the fly, and I think he's a good coach.

(01:29:27):
The question is and and it is with everybody who
leaves this nest. You know, how are you going to
play when Bill Belichick is not They're backing you up
and overseeing everything. I mean, it's one thing to get
on players, you know when Belichick is there, I mean,
what are they gonna do? Nothing? But all of a
sudden with the Giants, if you're being a hard ass
and there's nobody behind you and Belichick, you know, isn't

(01:29:48):
there to back you up, then it doesn't play so well.
I love that. That's a great nugget and that Greg
Bdard leaves me to my next question. The Patriots assistants
who have left Belichick to go elsewhere? Brian Flores, Patricia
Mangini on down the list. One guy has a winning
record and that's Bill O'Brien, uh fifty any uh any

(01:30:10):
thoughts on leaving the nest uh in New England? Yeah,
I mean, I think the big thing and I think
why O'Brien has been the most successful guy to this
point is that O'Brien had coached a bunch of different
places and under different people before he got to New England.
So New England was just part of who he was.
It wasn't who he was as a coach, which you

(01:30:31):
get with a lot of these guys. They Belichick likes
to find the neophys and he likes to, you know,
coach him up on on how to instruct players and
how to do things, and so they don't know anything
other than well, what would Bill do? Well, you're not Bill,
so you can't do what Bill does. And so I
think you know O'Brien, you know, was every bit of
much of Disciples of Georgio Leary as he was Bill Belichick,

(01:30:54):
and so I think that's really helped him be his
own guy. I think Josh McDaniels, if you asked him
after the Denver thing, that his biggest mistake was not
being himself. And it depends if Joe Judge is gonna
just try to be Belichick Jr. Is not gonna work.
If he tries to be Joe Judge and just coach
from the heart and be authentic, then I think he's
got a chance. Good stuff, Gregard. Final question, greg give

(01:31:17):
me one underdog to win in the NFL this weekend. Yeah,
I mean, you know, I went through it. I I
the one underdog that I picked to win this weekend
was the Seahawks, and and I don't think that's any
great stretch considering they had the lowest line of the week.
But I just think that, you know, and I really
want to see how that those the offensive line shakes out,

(01:31:37):
because those Smith brothers on the end are looming, and
if Dwayne Brown's not out there, it's gonna be an issue.
But I that team's eight and one, on the road.
Russell Wilson is just a you know, forced by himself,
and you know, I think that they can keep it close.
And when that happens when the Packers are home, a
lot of people start to get nervous and uh and
sometimes it goes the wrong way, you know. Well, having

(01:31:58):
covered that team work, Greg Badard great stuff. Follow him
on Twitter at a at Greg A Badard. He writes
the Boston Sports Journal, good stuff, Greg, enjoy the weekends
of games sounds good? Thanks? Alright, that's great Bard. I
really like what he said about the Joe Judge. I
don't know what's your read on that, Gavin. Yeah, you

(01:32:19):
think Joe Judge does any good? There? All these guys
who leave the Patriots, right, I was saying, it's the
same damn thing you go in. You try to be Belichick.
It ain't gonna work because you're not Bill Belichick, and you,
you know, you alienate everybody. Go look at them and
go read the McDaniels Denver Broncos stuff. Oh my gosh,
we weren't you impressed with Brian Flores though in Miami

(01:32:42):
after that awful start? Yeah, around, I mean, they had
nothing to lose the bottom tanking team. I mean they
finished one when six and till good. Very impressive ending.
They've got those players motivated to play. Yeah, all right,
let's see, let's see what goes on next. Okay, I
would say, well, fired up up. I am Dolphins JMU

(01:33:04):
North Dakota State. There is early football. This is the
appetizer for the NFL. JMU first drive just mowing right
down the field. Are you watching this? This is precision stuff?
Is this? This is in Frisco, Texas? I believe, and
I think there's snow on the ground. Why would they
have is like ice on the on the turf that
Why would they have that might be? Yeah, it looks
like snow or ice? Why would they have the National

(01:33:26):
Championship in Frisco, Texas? I think it's actually been there.
It's been in Texas. I know it's at least been
in the state. I'll ask it again. Why how many
people want to go to Frisco, Texas to watch a
football game That's a long haul from both the states
of North Dakota and then Jamie's Virginia. Right, can't they
get it at Yeah, Jamie's Virginia. Goodness, gracious, Sam play
like where the Colts play, you know in Indianapolis air Stadium. Yeah,

(01:33:48):
real city. Sorry. Frisco Texas coming up next year on
on Fox Sports Radio. Um, Dan Wilkins gonna stop by.
We love to chop it up. I'd like to get
on his case about his tweets. He's getting a regressive
on Twitter. I kind of like it. Dan Wilkin will
do a little more clubs at LSU. Remember, I am
obsessed with this game that's next year. On Fox Sports Radio.

(01:34:09):

we find out where Frisco Texas is? That was for
your touchdown lead. I don't Frisco get them. I couldn't
tell you where Frisco is. But it's cold enough to
be icing on the field. Yeah, it's so weird like Texas.

(01:34:56):
You think, oh, warm weather and all this. No, it's
there's ice on the field a lot of college basketball today. Um,
the algorithm has not yet spoken. But I have so
many people d m ng me on Instagram because I
put on posting some picks this week of totals and
they're not my picks, they're the machine picks, and they've
been on fire. I don't think I'm gonna read them
all off. On the radio, we got Dan Woken coming

(01:35:17):
up in a minute. Um, but like Temple two Lane
over mcnee's state, Northwestern State under that's what the machine
spits out. We're in a robot world, folks. Otherwise you're
throwing darts. Come right now, joining the show. My guy
Dan Woke in USA Today columnist at Dan Woken on Twitter, Dan,
how was the media day today? It was good? Uh,

(01:35:38):
big down for or here in New Orleans, so, uh,
it was funny. After Clemson went, they kind of had
to stick around for a while and things got delayed
a little bit, but it was all good. Nothing too provocative,
but kind of just everyone's ready to go. Sixteen days
between games a long time. Yeah, you know that that's
a big thing. Like, it feels like it's kind of
killed the vibe. Although I will say I'm ationally excited

(01:36:00):
for this game. Oh it's a great matchup. I just
sort of wonder that layoff will it affect a team negatively? Uh?
Certainly gives both teams more time to game plan. Who
does that favor? It's sort of the unknown wild card
to me in this deal is just kind of is
there is there a percentage point to be gained, you know,
somewhere along the way for one of these teams by

(01:36:23):
the fact that they've had sixteen days and then will
one of them maybe be a little bit flat because
that's just a long time to sit around. Yeah. I
mean we're talking about a team in Clemson that has
fourteen starters who played in last year's national title game.
How much of a factor is that for you? The layoff,
the four teacher. I mean, Clemson has been here. Yeah.
I think the biggest thing for me is just their

(01:36:43):
coaching staff has proven time and time again that they
know how to prepare a team for a national championship game,
to manage the playoff, to know when to push their
guys harder, to know when to back off and give
them some rest. They were pretty beat up coming out
of the Ohio State game. A lot of fun, some bruises,
So I do think that helps get them back to

(01:37:03):
percent physically. But there's no doubt that for me, even
though I think Ellis used the better team and they're
going to win. Uh. The big factor for in Clemson's
favor is just the track record of preparation that that
coaching staff, Brent Venables and their offensive guys. Like we'll
go back to last year against Alabama. They come right
out of the gates, they give to a coverage he

(01:37:24):
wasn't expecting, he throws a pick six, and the whole
game is kind of dictated from there going forward. So
that Clemson staff is really really good. We're talking with
Dan Wilken, national columnists for USA Today. Uh, Dan here
is stat is just mind boggling. This is tough to
wrap your head around. The last three playoff games, Okay,

(01:37:45):
that Clemson has had Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State. They've
given up seven points in the second half. That's it
against two. Uh. Notre Dame had a good team that
they had. We were never in that one, and then
Ohio State seven points in the second half. You know,
the they are just as you mentioned Venables, like, Uh,
what do you think he'll have in store for for
LSU here the greatest offense that maybe we've seen in

(01:38:07):
a while in college football. Well, I think from the
standpoint of Brent Vnables, you go into this game and
you've watched LS you all year long with this offense,
and the one thing that they've just been really good
at is you know they Joe Burrow gets up to
the line of scrimmage and as a defense, you show
a look and he's got a lot of pre prescribed

(01:38:28):
answers for whatever look you're in and and he his
decision making has been you know, I don't know about
a hundred percent, but it's from the layman watching the game,
it almost seems perfect. He's got options on every place.
So if you're Venables, I think what you have to
try to do is is confuse him or at least
make him think a little bit longer about you know,

(01:38:48):
the look you're giving him, and then maybe a late
change to to a different look that that maybe gets
him off his his mental game. Uh. If Edibles can
do that, then then the Climpson defense is gonna have
a shot, but uh, there's no doubt that that it's
gonna have to come with something new and different, because
if you just sit there, if you just sit back

(01:39:08):
and and and let Brady read you, or you know,
Brady and Borrow read you, then they're gonna pick you apart. Wow.
Talk with Dan Wilken, national columnist USA today. Uh, Dan,
if there's any edge in the XS and ose do
you think it's more than Clemson defense number one scoring
defense in the country. I know it was against the
A C C. Or is it simply listen, this is

(01:39:29):
an L s U defense. It's very weak and uh,
you know, I know they look good lately, but that
was against no DeAndre Swift really running the football in
Oklahoma's back up running backs. Maybe this Clemson offense feast
because this ain't the Ohio State defense are facing. Well.
I think both teams are gonna be able to score points.
I think the big uh issue and and Steve Bensminger,

(01:39:50):
the L s U co offensive coordinator, talked about it today. Uh,
it's red zone. You know, when when these teams get
into the red zone, you're not gonna want to be
settling for field goals. You know, it's gonna have to
be seven points, and that's going to dictate a lot
of the play calling because I think just both coordinators
are gonna be under a lot of pressure that that
they got to get into the end zone And what

(01:40:12):
does that do to you as as as a play caller?
And you have to be a little bit more aggressive.
So I think that's sort of the hidden xs and
those game within the game that that both teams are
going to be dealing with, because I think there's gonna
be a lot of confidence on both sides that they're
gonna be able to score points. Dan, I I've never
seen a quarterback make the leap from Joe Burrows sixteen
TVs and five packs last year to fifty five touchdowns, okay,

(01:40:36):
and and I think six interceptions that leap. Obviously we
give a lot of it to Joe Brady, but I mean,
is there something else that I'm missing? I mean, I'm
just kind of sort of waiting for Burrow not to
turn into a pumpkin, but to I mean, we haven't
seen any of that guy who was sixteen touchdowns last year.
He's been amazing. This is unfathomable. Well Ensminger said that

(01:40:57):
today that he doesn't think they could have run this
offense last year at LSU. But football is a developmental game,
you know, not maybe guys don't make a leap like
we've seen with Burrow, but they do get better. And uh,
Joe Burrow, he had not played a lot of football
by the time he got to l s U. He's
been a backup, so is talented as he might have been. Uh,

(01:41:19):
as skilled as he might have been. He needed time
to get those reps to being involved in games and
see what he had to work on. And then all
of a sudden, this offseason transformation with an offense that
better suits him in the better chemistry with his receivers.
It's just taken off. Now. I haven't like like you,
I have not seen a player go from one thing

(01:41:40):
to this in one season, But I do think that
you have to give a lot of credit to Burrow
and just the way he's improved, because as good as
the system is, he's still the guy out there making
the plays, making the reads and executing. And he's done
that too almost perfection. All right, last question, Dan woke
in USA today with a victory. Here, Okay, Trevor Lawrence

(01:42:01):
will move to twenties six and oh two national titles.
Are we looking at maybe perhaps the greatest quarterback in
college football history? And that's not hyperbole, but if he
has two titles in two years and has never lost,
and I mean the trajectory is there for him to
maybe be the best ever. Yeah, you'd have to place
him in the conversation right away. And and it would

(01:42:22):
be interesting to see him going into next year. I
think he would have to probably add a Heisman onto
that to maybe be remembered that way from now, and
he does not have that Heisman trophy. And next year
he would probably go in as a favorite, just as
he was this year, but he maybe kind of lost

(01:42:42):
it the first few weeks of the season. I think
you'd see a more concerted effort maybe next year to
not get off to a slow star. Yeah, and I'm
already you already know this. He's losing Ross and Higgins,
He's losing e t N. Like, there's just no way
he's gonna be the Heisman. Voters love flashy and new, right,
Baker Mayfield's new Kyler Murray was new, Uh, what's it?

(01:43:03):
Joe Burrow is new in terms of we've never seen
this The expectations are extraordinary for Lawrence, aren't they not. Well,
there's no doubt, and they weren't coming into this year
because everyone remembered the way he finished the season against Alabama.
I think Clemson will be plenty talented around him to
give him an opportunity to put up big numbers and
the fact that maybe the thing that helps him is

(01:43:24):
there's going to be more on his shoulders next year
to to put up those numbers. But I look, I
love where you're going with the question, because to be
where he is, if they win this game undefeated in college,
two national championships, not something we've seen before, he would
be on a trajectory to have the best year college
career that we've ever seen. All Right, I'm I'm actually

(01:43:44):
liking the under and clemsont four thirty one? Am I insane? Well? No,
I mean, look, both teams could come out a little
bit tight. Uh. You know, if if Clemson has committed
to longer drives, longer possessions, maybe bleet the clock a
little bit to keep the ball out of Joe Burrow's hands,
then you can see the scores maybe not get to

(01:44:07):
the forties. Uh. But there's gonna be points scored, you know,
and and that over underbt that that to me is
always sort of a dangerous one because, uh, you just
don't know what style of game it's gonna be. An offense,
it doesn't it doesn't happen the way we think it will.
So I kind of like the under I'm kind of
with you. I think maybe the game will be a
little bit slower pace than we think, but both teams

(01:44:27):
will definitely be able to move the football. All right,
do you have you have a winner? Have you picked
one yet? Are you saving it for the paper? No?
I just can't go against LSU at this point. Um,
I've seen him the last couple of games in person,
unless the layoff has impacted them negatively or you know,
maybe a little bit of pressure playing in New Orleans,
playing at home, so to speak, uh tht level of

(01:44:50):
execution on offense. I don't think Clemson's got the kind
of defensive talent this year to to slow them down enough.
I just think this LSU team has has been kind
of on a mission all long, and I think they're
going to finish it, all right, Dan Woken, You can
follow his stuff on Twitter at Dan Wolken, National columnist,
USA Today. Thanks a lot, Dan, enjoy the game, all right, thanks,
oh man, Yeah, listen, he's right. We've seen Clemson, I believe,

(01:45:15):
only once this year. Once has l s U been
held under thirty points. That was at Auburn. They kind
of screwed around there. They got stopped on the goal line.
They had a fumbled special teams play that led to
an instant Auburn touchdown. The key is gonna, I think
the key Gavin right, it's just run the football, l
off the field. Yeah, you gotta run it. And Oklahoma
tried to do that and they couldn't do anything in

(01:45:37):
the first drive. L s U scores, right, and then
it's like, okay, we gotta run the football. You can't
run the football in the second drive, and then you're
screwed because l s U's just scoring touchdowns every damn time. Uh.
Coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio, we'll do
a little NFL playoffs. Uh, we'll talk a little college football.
That's all next here. But first let's go do Isaac

(01:46:00):
Lewin Crown the latest in sport. Jason. We are now
four hours, in three minutes away from kicking off the
Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs at Levi's Stadium as
the San Francisco forty Niners get ready to host the
Minnesota Vikings. Then tonight at eight fifteen Eastern, the one
seed in the a f C, the Ravens play host
to the Tennessee Titans. On the early College Basketball score Aboard,

(01:46:23):
fifth ranked Auburn trails at home to Georgia nineteen to eighteen,
six and a half left to play in the first.
Eleventh ranked Ohio State down in Indiana twenty five to
eighteen at the eight minute mark of the first half.
Number fourteen Kentucky up on Alabama twenty eight to twenty
four with six forty to play in the first half.
In the NBA Friday Night, no Anthony Davis no problem

(01:46:45):
for the Lakers. They improved a thirty one and seven
on a seven game winning streak with a fifteen point
win at Dallas. Lebron James thirty five points, sixteen rebounds,
seven assists. Kyle Kuzma scored a season I twenty six points.
Milwaukee won at Sacramento by twenty one, who improved to
thirty four and six. The Memphis Grizzlies one their fourth straight.
They beat the Spurs by thirteen Rookie John Morant twenty

(01:47:08):
two points fourteen assists. Grizzlies now holding down the eighth
and final playoff spot in the West, and New Orleans
is one seven of nine after a twelve point victory
over the Knicks at the Garden behind twenty eight from
Brandon Ingram Jason back to you, Thank you, Isaac. Back
here on Fox Sports Radio. I will say this this
JIMU North Dakota State, if you just love football, you

(01:47:30):
gotta enjoy this start. Both teams go right down the
field touchdowns, you know, And that's what it feels like
for the college game as well. I just don't know
if we're gonna see the same in the NFL. You know. Um,
I didn't talk much about this yet, but I'm going
back on that. My my Buffalo Bills lost, well, it
was a push. I had three and you know what
happened in overtime. But and Kevin, we talked about this

(01:47:52):
on the show sometimes, like they went up sixteen nothing
and you could just see them get so conservative in
the red zone with or play calling Kevin. Three times
they got inside the Texans twenty five yard line. And
we know the Texans had the worst red zone defense
in the NFL this year, giving up to touchdowns three

(01:48:12):
trips since five and they got three field goals. You're
not winning on the road with your quarterback having a
first playoffs start. If you're settling for field goals. You
just can't do that. You can't play scared. And then
right after that Deshaun Watson twenty touchdown run, then they
get they it's one score game and the momentum completely shifted. J. J.

(01:48:33):
Watt is sacking it. I mean, just non stop. Yeah.
So and listen, I know it's easy for me to
say as the armchair guy. You know you don't stay aggressive.
You you know you chill out. You know that's totally wrong.
And I learned that the hard way. So I know
you guys love when I bring up coaching my kids basketball. Um,
I'll never ever forget this game. We're in a summer

(01:48:55):
league game and our team with with an awesome player
who's now the best player in third grade in our area. Um,
we're dominating against a friend's team. I was friends with
the opposing coach. I mean it must have been like
sixteen to four in the third quarter, and that's a
big deficit in this Sunset Summer League game. And I'm
friends with the guy, so I don't want to kill him.

(01:49:18):
We're up sixteen to four. I pull out our best
two players to rest in the third quarter, just to rest,
and they go on instantly like a ten nothing run.
It was like two threes and before we knew it,
I'm like, only cow, this is like a two point game.
And I put our guys back in in the fourth quarter,
but we had lost the momentum. Just like the Buffalo mill,
you take your foot off the gas, the other team

(01:49:39):
comes back, they get the momentum. We never recovered and
we lost by two, and I was gutted. Our players
were devastated, and I pulled him aside. I said, guys, guys, guys.
And this was when we were in first grade, I
think going in a second, I said, guys, this is
on me. Never again will I do that. I will
never take my foot off the gas ever again. I'm sorry.
It was my fault, and I've legitimately felt bad, and

(01:50:01):
you know, the kids are felt bad for like eight
minutes and they're like, oh, can we go to the
beach Dad? Or uh, yeah, can I go get this
go played intended with this guy's house or whatever it is.
You know the kids. It's just momentum is everything. I
was watching the Clippers last night. They were down ten
to the Warriors. Okay, they were down ten into the
fourth quarter against the Warriors B squad, and it was

(01:50:25):
a Jamachael Green clean up dunk that shifted the game. Clippers,
you have money on that. I did not, but I
just I was, you know, I was watching the Laker
game and then they started really blowing out the MAVs,
and so I switched it over. And if it wasn't
for that Green dunk which set off Kauai and Kauai
has like a strip steel dunk, and it just totally

(01:50:47):
shifted the game, and all of a sudden they're up
by five or six. That momentum, I know, you can't
quantify it. And we had a sports psychologist earlier. He
tries to quantify this stuff. Um. You just the Buffalo
Alls screwed themselves and I wonder, Gavin, you watch that game.
Brian day Boles the offensive coordinator, and he was at
Alabama and he had a great run in Buffalo second

(01:51:10):
half of the season. You watch that playoff game, and
I know it's a body of work and you're not
supposed to be one play or one game or one half,
but you just see that and you're like, man, I
don't know, I don't know about this guy. I don't know. Now,
Josh Allen, you could argue was really the real reason
they he's oh my god, yeah, I mean he had

(01:51:31):
that that touchdown in the beginning of the game, that
opening drive. You're like Buffalo Bills and he had a
forty one yard run I think, and they said that
was the longest Bills run all season, and that was
kind of a broken player that wasn't you know, totally designed.
So uh yeah, I'm not sure how much you can
buy into the offensive coordinator for the Bills. Yeah. It's

(01:51:52):
just frustrating. And of course I was I got the
push on Buffalo um. But when you I'm telling you,
when you're coaching kids or you're watching these games, you
know you've got to stay aggressive. And I don't mean
like Drew Brees made a really dumb um deep pass
into double coverage on like a third down and you're like, oh,
you know, it was like it's an arm punt, not

(01:52:13):
not really not really. An interception invigorates the defense. Everybody's
fired up, everybody's geeked, Oh we got the ball, let's
go offense, let's go, let's go get points. Let's let's
hit him back with a quick deep shot. Momentum is
a real thing, and a lot of people don't want
to buy it. And that's fine. You can't quantify it.
I'm a numbers guy, and Paul de Podesta, I'm sure

(01:52:34):
it would be laughing if he heard this radio segment whatever.
But uh, I don't know, guys. I think it's real
and um, and that's the thing that the advanced stats
can't tell you. And look at all the d v
o A stuff, but that those moments in the game
where Taysom Hill is taking you down the field and
in imuniting you know, the home stadium, that's what matter.

(01:52:54):
I mean, unbelievable game by Taysom Hill, by the way. Um,
And I just want you to think about this heading too.
And I think it's the is it the first game
of the night game, Vikings? They are the first game
when Vikings, who do you think it has more momentum
off last week's win Texans Vikings. That's A great question,

(01:53:14):
because you can make argument for either Minnesota or the Titans.
Texans second half comeback and win it overtimes. It was
against but it was the Bills, and Josh Allen's never
done it down that. Yeah. You know, playoffs any sport,
especially NBA, NFL, I always gamble on the team that's
been there before. And that's why I've got some money

(01:53:35):
invested in Minnesota today. Not as much on the money line,
but you know I I think it's a closer game
than people think I and I think the Vikings have
a lot of momentum right now. They won that game.
The Titans were victorious against New England, but the Vikings
one in overtime. Kirk Cousins went out and made the
plays and won that game. Really impressive performance, and you're

(01:53:56):
going to get the Niners team kind of struggle down
the stretch for time quarterback and Jimmy g coming up
next year. We wrap up the show on Fox Sports Radio.
Oh yeah, I forgot about this. Hold on Great News.

(01:54:38):
talking you through. James Madison now losing to North Dakota
State fourteen seven. I don't know that. Did something happen?
Was that a special teams player? I missed it? Dang it?
Long end around for a touchdown for North Dakota State. Uh. Discover,

college hoops today, I'm telling you guys, I love college basketball.
I'd love to talk about it. It's just brutal this year,
like Ohio States playing Indiana. I usually can know some

(01:55:23):
of the good players what's going on. It's just really
slow this year, just like terminally slow. You can't like
in the NBA. At least you create narratives like Steph
Curry and Janice whispering to each other in the line. Um,
Kendrick Perkins with that nonsense going after Kevin Durant. You
can't even fake that in college basketball. By the way,

(01:55:47):
college basketball, Um, the algorithm has spoken. I'm gonna give
you a couple of these. Baylor over Georgia. This is
not team tote as I'm sorry. Game totals over Baylor
over Georgia State over. You tap over Oral Roberts over
a lot of overs, right Eastern Michigan over Notre Dame under.

(01:56:11):
And there is a Syracuse under. But I don't touch Syracuse.
I don't touch the Syracuse game because it involves u
v A. And I'm telling you, guys, uv A Basketball
has broken the algorithm. Every UVA it says to take
the over, and every game comes in under because UVa's
defense is unbelievable. They're pack line defense. I don't care

(01:56:33):
how many guys are hurt, just don't bet on UVA
games at all. Syracuse does stink this year, as I was,
Sam says, in my year all right, so we got
the four games um in the NFL. Oh, let me
quickly go to the Janna Steph Curry thing. Keavin, you
saw the clip, right, I did not see this. So
Bucks play the Warriors. At the end, Steph Curry, who's

(01:56:53):
you know, obviously not even dressed for the game because
he's injured. They're doing the handshake line and you can
see Steph Curry. They slow down the tape and you
could see him say clearly to Janice, come on, man,
let's go or let's do this one of those and
Joannice kind of looks at it, who doesn't really say anything.
It's in the line afterwards. Now people freak out, you

(01:57:13):
know what's going on there starting the recruiting early. Curry
quickly tries to squash it by telling a media member
Chris Haynes, I was talking about this video game. We
should play P B G C. I do some video game.
I don't know. I asked the young guys over there
what the video game was. It's not like Call of Duty.

(01:57:34):
It is some other game. You know. They're not We
don't even have a system. We don't have an I'm
holding them off on Nintendo. No YouTube hell no, no YouTube,
um Disney plus Disney plus we have Mandalorian. I saw
the full Stay awesome, really enjoyed it. Anyways, So Steph
Curry says this to you, honest, people freak out. Steph

(01:57:56):
Curry's like, no, I'm talking about playing video games. I
don't who do you believe Do you believe it was
video games? Or do you believe they're recruiting? Honest? I
thought they were going to be recruiting honest this offseason,
not this offseason, but going into this season. But way
too much. You gotta lay that groundwork now. Of course,
the Bucks fans, well, why is he honest leaving we

(01:58:17):
have the best record in the NBA. We're going to
the finals. All right, we'll see. I don't know if
I trust Milwaukee in the playoffs yet, but are they
going to They do have the best record, that is
indeed a fact. I just I don't know if I
trust Milwaukee in the playoffs regular season. They're built for it, um,
not without because that's the thing is, I just don't

(01:58:38):
think they're better team than they were last year. Chris Middleton,
good luck, guys, um Switching topics real quick, did you
see the Russell Westbrook. He goes home to uh okay
See and they're losing clearly. At the end of the game,
the team's huddling. He's at the end of the bench
just sitting there sulking. Can you believe this guy? You
guys know, I'm out on two guys, Chris Paul and

(01:59:00):
what's the rest book Just not a fan of their work.
I feel like they're more headaches than anything. And the
Internet loves these guys. Worships Carmelo Anthony he did hit
a buzzer shot to beat the Raptors or maybe final
with final twenty seconds or whatever. He's played. Well, I'm
out on Carmelo. I'm out. I just no thanks. I

(01:59:21):
don't want these divas. You guys know. I was out
on Odell Beckham. I mean, hell, Stefon Diggs is headed
toward diva territory, is he not. They're winning the game
against the Saints on the road and he's crying on
the sideline throwing his helme and get me the damn ball. Really,
I got a coach a third grade basketball game in

(01:59:42):
a couple of hours. If one of the kids is like,
get me the ball, I need shots, You're coming out
of the game and your parents are gonna be cool
with it. Come on, it's whining for the football, Like,
give me a break, all right? I do want to
close out Gavin uh with just a touch more on
Clemson and l s U. And I guess my biggest question,

(02:00:03):
because I'm so into this game, is like, what happens
if Clemson wins this game? Right? That's back to back titles,
three in four years. Trevor Lawrence undefeated as a college
football quarterback. That's a dynasty, is it not? Iowa Sam
big Ten correspondent, that is a dynasty. And I have

(02:00:27):
said this before, I will repeat it. Whoever drafts Trevor
Lawrence in is gonna be my second favorite NFL team.
I just love watching that dute. He is a warrior.
The definition of a warrior. Just getting clobbered by Ohio State.
Helmet shots, hard hits, gets up, shakes it off, touchdowns.

(02:00:47):
After this radio show, go on YouTube, pull up the
highlights Ohio State Clemson Watch Trevor Lawre That guy's a
machine just he's built for the moment. Everybody listening to
the podcast, have a great week. I'll talk to you soon.
