(01:42):
doing that, it's gonna be my man stretching eye taking
you guys the next two hours. A lot of things
to get you. Benny Hardaway had some interesting things to
say about nil and what it's doing to the game
at the college level.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Boise State, some.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Other names, and that hat of teams isn't good for
the playoff. We'll get to that. There's a lot of
that to get to. That'll be in about twenty to
forty minutes or so before we do that. But hey,
we're going to touch on this Detroit Lions football team
and Dan Campbell's very, very gutsy fourth down call at

(02:21):
the end of the game. But first, Plexico Burths, how
you feeling mad?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Was a big week for you this year? Man? And
you know what you feel like a new man, I'm
sure of dude.

Speaker 6 (02:32):
Man.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
You know it's been a great week man for you. Know,
myself and my son and the whole entire family to
really you know, just we're just all taking it in
and digesting. You know, a little man was just not
a little man. The more he's turning to a young
man before eyes, you know, having another blessed opportunity to

(02:54):
turn the page and move on in life and attend
you know, the Dame. And he'll be even to go
to South Bend in a few weeks here, and you know,
just you know, dotting all the eys, crossing all the
tea's and he will be, you know, in class on
January eleventh. So everything is, you know, happening really fast,

(03:15):
and he's just trying to take it all in celebrate
a little bittersweet at the same time. But man, you know,
just excited for his uh, you know, his journey.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
You know, that's an awesome deal to see him from
a baby all the way up until now. Congratulations to
Elijah Burris for his his big major accomplishment heading to
South Bend Notre Dame. They're in a great situation set
up this year as well, going from you know, heartbreaking

(03:44):
loss to now being in the college playoff and then
he's reporting and hey, Elijah, depending on what Notre Dame
is able to do, could be on the sideline and
the Notre Dame sweatshuit watching him play.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
That was just brought to my attention. I was unaware
of that until he told me that a couple he is.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Now he is now a fighting irishman.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
He is not did not I did not know that.
That's crazy how the rules and the times have changed. Hey, bro,
imagine if we knew that and that's how we was
able to do that. I know, man, I did not
know that when he told me that you can even.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Can practice practice can practice? Yes, he can practice with
the team. That crazy.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
That is pretty crazy, and it doesn't hurt his eligibility,
not one bit for him to all get there, start
working out.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
And be in the mix of it. So I got
to have a talk with my son.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
I know he committed to this all American game for
the military, but I'm like, man, you getting to practice
American versus getting to practice with the team.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
You're gonna play, right?

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Yeah, maybe you had a great week too, man, man, man,
you know, following his father's footsteps, attended going to Stick
City University of Talk, going with a great number eleven
were You know, all the great linebackers in school history
have played, man, and so congratulated to you and your
family and everybody.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Man's a beautiful thing.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
Man, It's just just what we really in some way,
some ways are going to take stick city on or
up on game on the road at some point because well,
our kids playing some major college ball.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
So speaking a major ball. Speaking of major.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
Ball, we talked about Dan Campbell and this Detroit Lions team.
They go for it on fourth down and short plex
over the Packers. It was a great game. I mean,
what an amazing game. The NFC North is is an
amazing the best division this year in all of the NFL.

(05:52):
Going for it all fourth down seals up the victory
over the Packers. It gives Detroit a very commanding lead
get that divisional conference championship.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
What was your takeaway from that game?

Speaker 5 (06:06):
Because if you recalled last year in the playoffs, the
same type of stuff that didn't work in that playoff
game is what Dan Campbell did. And you know what,
he felt positive and confident about going for it. So
he's basically telling everybody, hey, listen, as long as us
in this locker room believe in it and want to
do it.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
We're going to.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Continue to play Detroit Lions football. That's how we're going
to go about doing it. And they did and it
paid off. How do you feel about Dan Campbell making
that call?

Speaker 6 (06:35):
Was?

Speaker 5 (06:35):
What do you agree with it? And what do you
think about this Detroit Lions team?

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Now?

Speaker 4 (06:40):
I kind of think it's been Dan Campbell's mo you know,
since he's come to Detroit. I mean, he has not
backed off of anything that he had said. You know,
he's putting all the owners on his teammates that he
trust him to go out in you know, situational football
and get that fourth down to instill that belief in

(07:01):
this football team that listen, if it comes down to
you know, a yard or whatever the case may be,
I'm going for it. So so prepare yourself mentally, understand
the play, what we need to do, how we need
to get this one or two yards or whatever the
case may be. And that's the message that he's sending

(07:22):
to his team since he's been there. You know, he
said that they're going to take on the attitude of
the city of Detroit biting kneecaps. When he first came
in the door, everybody thought he was crazy. And I
believe that they have clutched the NFC northward that win
against Green Bay on Thursday. I think it's a name
that green Bay needed to get, you know, going down

(07:44):
to stretch from a confidence standpoint. But I look at
this Detroit team and Aaron Glenn. Defensively, they play a
lot of base defense. They expect to get to the
quarterback with the front seven front four, and they've been
able to do that. And I'm just looking at the
rest of their schedule. They had the Buffalo Bills, they

(08:05):
go to Chicago, they go to San Francisco in their
last game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings. So
you know, they're not out of it yet. I mean,
they're not totally locked into home fill advantage yet because
I believe that the Minnesota Vikings are only one game
behind them, you know, in the division. So and they
play them the last game of the season. If the

(08:29):
if the Detroit Lions happened to lose at Buffalo, I
don't know how that affects, uh, you know, them as
far as home feelers vantage concerned, because they may be
in a situation to where, you know, they may be
tied at the for the last game of the season,
and it's going to come down to home Fiell advantage.

(08:51):
And if you're Dan Campbell, You're going to have to
play your start at the last game, but the last
game of the season to secure home feel advantage against
the Minnesota Vikings. So that's what I'm looking at. The
last game of the season. It's in Detroit. But I
look at this Detroit team, man Dan Campbell and this
organization they have built like an indoor football team. I

(09:12):
think the Detroit Lions only had one or two outdoor
football games this year. I think that's one of the
reasons why their offense is as efficient as it is.
They need to secure home full advantage because I don't
believe that they can go to Philadelphia in January and
win an NFC championship game if they want to get
to the Super Bowl. So I believe that they have

(09:33):
to win out. They have to secure home fill advantage
because that's going to be the easiest route to get
to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
We got a resident mark for the Detroit Lions and
Chris Purfet, he does a podcast on the team.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
He has an opinion on on this topic. What say
you today?

Speaker 7 (09:53):
Well, first off, on the outside thing, like they do
have a run game, and they won in Green Bay
in the rain. But I mostly wanted to mention now
that fourth down because I know, LeVar, you know this.
This week's been a lot about you know, the gamble
like that Dan Campbell's gambling out there. But you mentioned
the situational there. I just wanted to build on your point.
You look at where they are on that field that

(10:14):
I think it was the nineteen yard line, forty seconds left,
and they decide to go for it. You've got Jordan
love Is passing. I believe the average drop back yardage
he was getting on yardage on drop back passing was
thirteen yards in the second half. So like, your option
is either you kick the field goal, which is what
the analytics were actually saying you do in that situation,

(10:37):
or you go for it and like squat on the
time to kick the field goal to win it. I
think in that moment, every Packers fan wanted the Lions
to kick a field goal in that moment. I just
I don't see it as risky as people said. I
think to your point, when you talk about situational, they're
very aware of the situations they're in at that yardage

(10:58):
where even if you turn it over, it's not much
different than a kick than a touchback on kickoff. If
you miss the field goal, you're starting out, you're letting
the Packers start out from even farther out. Like I
think it was extremely calculated what they did in that moment,
But that's Dan's you know, Dan Campbell's m O. He
knows this team extremely well and knows what they're capable of,

(11:20):
and they have plenty of calls for a fourth and
inches to just hammer it home.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Jared Goff fell on the ground. If that was college football,
it's a turnover on downs. I don't care they get
the first down. You mentioned the backfield. Listen, I'm gonna
tell you like this, David Montgomery and Jamaier Gibbs is
easily the most dynamic, nicest running back tandem duo in
the National Football League. Let me put this one in

(11:47):
front of you, guys. I felt like Dan Campbell was
doing something that was a bigger deal than just this
game or you know, situational football. What Dan Campbell was
doing with sending a message to the Green Bay Packers
and the rest of the teams in the NFC that
they will see in the playoffs. They may revisit this

(12:09):
game against the Green Bay Packers. That is a really,
really good green Bay Packers team. Jordan Love is a
superstar in this league. Budding star played his ass off.
They got Josh Jacobs in the backfield. That is a
very able team. You mentioned Minnesota, plex Minnesota is a
team that can beat both of them. They can beat

(12:32):
Green Bay and they can beat Detroit. So now you're
talking about that Philadelphia is out there.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
They can beat all three of those teams.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
I think Dan Campbell the brilliance of what Dan Campbell
is doing is he's playing a mind game with those
other teams while telling his team, listen, we're the big
bad bully on the block. If we got to see
them in the playoffs. We're showing right now that when
it comes down to it, we're going to be the
ones that are tougher up front. And we all know

(13:00):
that if you're going to win games, you gotta be
better upfront than the other team that you're going up against.
You gotta be able to run the ball, and you
got to be able to stop the run. That's what
Dan Campbell showed in this game. Even though even though
the offense did very well in my estimation for green
Bay in this game, they were in position to be
able to possibly pull this game out. So getting a

(13:23):
game like this does something so amazing to your team,
Psyche at the end of the year, and all of
those scenarios that you discussed playing out, you know, playoffs wise,
if you do got to travel and go on the road,
if you do got to play outside in the elements,
whatever it may be. I think the collective buy in
and the belief that Dan Campbell has been able to

(13:44):
establish with his team showed in a shining moment such
as that he didn't have to go for it. He
could have kicked that field goal and then kicked the
ball off and then they played defense. There was a
bigger point to be made. There was a much bigger
point to be made, and you know what he did
it He proved the point the game could have been.

(14:06):
You know, I don't know if the game could have
been won or not based off of the amount of
time that was left.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Could could green Bay have delivered it?

Speaker 5 (14:13):
I don't know, but I do know this that man
said to green Bay, it is fourth down in short
and we are already in field goal range, and it
is the end of the game. I'm gonna give you
no time to have any drive, and I'm gonna do
it by slamming this ball down the.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Center of your defense. It was I thought it was.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
Because it worked, of course, I thought it was an
amazing moment for Dan Campbell.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
But hey, we'll see how it all plays out.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
I think Detroit is obviously the front runner, but this
Philadelphia team is trending in the right direction. They're a
scary team. And keep in mind those other two teams
in the North, they are pretty scary as well. All right,
listen up, this is up on game. That is Plexicoe
Burds TJ is off. You heard from Chris Purfett. We're

(15:05):
gonna take a quick break. On the other side of
the break, nil is it taking the love out of
the college game?

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Hmm?

Speaker 5 (15:13):
What an interesting topic we're gonna hear from coach Penny Hardaway,
a great basketball player in his day, and what he
had to say about nil and where players are at
these days. But we're gonna take a quick break, all right,
on the other side of it. We'll get back to
you on that. This is up on Game's Plexico Burds.

we're live from the tyrack dot com studios. It's Plexico
Burst and I'm LeVar Arrington. TJ is off today. It's

(16:15):
all good.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Uh we'll talk Stealers, Pickings and Browns.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
You know they have a media spat those uh, those
two guys named Pickings and Newsome. So that's interesting. I'm
sure plus you'll have something interested to say to that.
But first let's get to this Penny Hardaway deal. We
have some sound. I didn't see what show it was
that he did this this interview on, so I'm sorry

(16:41):
I can't give you. It was on a podcast with
Tony Allen and Zach Randolph.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Yeah what what what is it called?

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Out of the mud? Out the mud? Out of the mud.
Yeah yeah, And we heard, yeah, we heard. Penny had
this to say about the n I L. And let's
talk about it after we hear what he had to say.

Speaker 8 (17:00):
I'm happy these young men are getting money, but it's
taking the love out of the game from a coach
point of view, because they get all the money, all
the minutes, all the shots, and then I want to
practice hard y'all every year. You got to re recruit
your own guy soon the season nowhere, Hey man, come
on this meat. Guys are saying, Hey man, I ain't
even careing about the league. If I could get two
millions back to back, I can just ride off in

(17:20):
the sunset. I can go look at the league a
little bit. If been on work, I got this money
to fall back on. They looking at it at his
fall back money. They ain't even thinking I got to
grind this year to get to use. You know, that
was a motivation. It ain't the motivation no more. They like,
I can take this money and just ride off in
the sunset. So whatever, they bring it to the table
right on that year is what they bring it to
the table. You can't hurry them, you can't make them
go harder.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
It's like, this is me, all right, Plexico birds.

Speaker 5 (17:45):
When I when I heard this, I got a big
smile on my face because this one has a lot
of meat on the bone. I'm gonna let you take
the first the first bite of it to see what
we got going.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
I mean, from a coaching standpoint, I can understand exactly
what Penny is going through and what he's saying because
I can sense that him saying that. The fact that
he just said he has to re recruit his own kid,
that's really unfortunate because I remember when I was a kid. Man,
you was growing up, you wanted to go to a

(18:21):
certain school because you loved it. And obviously you know,
the NIL you know, has changed the entire landscape of
college sports forever.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
I mean, look at Tony Bennett.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
He just up and resigned and he was one of
the best basketball coaches in the country at UVA, and
he was like, listen, I can't coach the way that
I want to coach because because his whole NIL situation
and the way that has changed, you know, the college
landscape of how the kids are basically just like he's saying,

(18:53):
preparing and playing basketball.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
I can't coach. I can't give.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Them the best me if every year you know my
uh you know my team is going to change. And
that's why you have to you know, uh, give kudos
to a Dabbo Sweeney, to a Kirbly Smart because they
don't accept in IL transfers at Clemson in Georgia. If
you want to play at Clemson and you want to

(19:17):
play at Georgia, I want you to be all in
with the program. And you know, kudos kudos coaches for
you know, standing up for what they believe in. But uh,
I can I agree exactly what he said. You look
at you know, Dylan Gabriel was at Oklahoma last year,
now he's at Oregon. These kids can put themselves in

(19:39):
situations to they say, you know what, I'm gonna go
get go get the most money that I can right
now because a lot of these kids that are accepting
and getting all this NL money, everybody's not going to
the NFL, so they have but they have an opportunity
to just like Phenny said, to have some fall back money.

(20:02):
And why would you put yourself in a situation to
you know, uh, you know, to insert yourself into the
NFL draft, for to the NBA draft if you know
that you can play in college for another year or
two and make another couple of million dollars. And just
like you said, I can I can sense that it
will take some of the some of the love and
the drive out of these kids, because it's like he's saying, hey, man,

(20:26):
if you don't like it, I can leave. And that
is what it has afforded these young men, you know,
looking at this whole nil situation because I mean, guys
are going from team to team to team every year
and we didn't have that opportunity to, uh, to do
what these guys are doing now. But for the time being,

(20:47):
these guys are going to put themselves in the best
situation moving forward from up from a financial standpoint. And LaVar,
you know, everybody doesn't grow up and come up in
the exactly the standards as far as from a financial standpoint.
So now you may have a kid that wanted to
go to Penn State all his life and incomes mind

(21:09):
of Ohio and they offer this young man two million
dollars and he's looking at his circumstances coming up and
growing up, and parents get involved and they're like, you know,
why would you go here when you can make two
million dollars over here, So that that's also the impact
that it's having on some of these families. You know,

(21:30):
I'm not saying that what happened with my guy Deuce,
but you know, he was one of the best quarterbacks
in the country going to Nouth bench was going to
South bench and we were excited about that. And obviously
if you can see he, you know, we lost him
to an im Now he will be the quarterback at Auburn.
So it has an effect on everybody. But you know,

(21:50):
I don't think I don't think it's going to change
anytime soon. And I could believe, you know, exactly where
where Penny Hardaway is coming from.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
I think one way or another, disruption takes place because
that's what evolution is, right. Civilization evolves, Things happen, you
notice more, you're aware of more, and the adaption in
the adjustment has to take place. And that's what's taking
place in college sports. There's been so much negativity surrounding

(22:22):
and backlash surrounding what NIL has created, But you know
what there was a lot of backlash and a lot
of negativity about you know, for some people, at least
what would be considered to be exploitation of college athletes,
and people may not want to look at the topic

(22:43):
and look at it at face value of what it was.
But so many people tried to justify that these guys
are getting free, free educations to be able to go
play a sport they love, and that should have been
good enough. And while they're maybe pieces and parts of
that that are agreeable, the bottom line is the amount

(23:04):
of money that's being generated by these TV stations and
all the money that's being paid by advertisers that are
going out and coming into these conferences and into the
NCAA and into the schools. It just to me it
would serve a purpose to figure out how to compensate

(23:25):
the kids that are coming in who are working.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
They're working to.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
Not only get an education, but to put the time
in to generate the type of dollars that are going
into the athletics that are taking place from these major
colleges and the sports that take place with them. So
when I heard this, it was like, are we looking
at this through the wrong lens? If I'm penny hard away.

(23:51):
I look at it as this is more of an
opportunity than it is a drawback. Okay, I can't get
the kids to practice as hard as I need to.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Why.

Speaker 5 (24:01):
Oh, because they can leave if they want to leave,
adapt and adjust. That means there now has to start
to be the conversation amongst the colleges. So that hold,
let me finish, let me finish, let me finish it,
let me finish. There has to be an adjustment amongst
the colleges and amongst the schools to figure out a
more professional structure and infrastructure that will allow for contracts

(24:25):
to be given to these young men that are going
to play for these schools.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
So you're not.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
Doing a one year and done contract with these kids.
Maybe now you're doing a three year contract with these
kids that are coming in so that you don't have
to deal with those situations.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Oh, you got to keep recruiting them.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
It's because they can leave and go somewhere else, right, Okay, Now,
now let's look at the fact that if I'm a
coach and I have to be a part of that, well,
now I can start to command more dollars too, because
my job description is now changing and the pros the
pros you do. You handle free agency a certain way,

(25:03):
but in college it's all about recruitment. So if now
I have to start acting in the way that I
would in some regards as a professional coach, then you're
going to have to start compensating me for being that
type of coach and having to do these extra duties
that I did not have to do before.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
We had to evolve and adjust and for what it's worth.
I think that that's what's going to happen with the
players as well.

Speaker 5 (25:28):
The players have to look at the fact that now
we have to handle business. I got to do a
contract and I have to decide am I going to
Am I going to make a commitment to this school?
And is that commitment going to be a reciprocated commitment?
Am I getting what the school is offering to me?
And am I giving to the school what it is

(25:49):
that I'm accepting that the school offered to me. I
think this should be looked at more as a positive
plex not more of a negative.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
I understand everything that you're saying, but what is the
adjustment or a Penny hall Away and a Tony Bennett,
these coaches who who are discussing the NIL when they're
saying that I have to re recruit my own player, Yes,
after the season is over, So what.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Is the adjustment for that?

Speaker 5 (26:14):
Again, I think that that adjustment has to be the people.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
So you're saying the guys need to sign two and
three year contracts to basically say that I'm going to
play basketball at.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Memphis for the next two or three seasons, and I yes,
it's going to end up having to be.

Speaker 5 (26:32):
And the reason why I say that is is if
you're only doing one year contracts with these kids and
they can just go into the transfer portal because they
can get more money out of the scenario, then you
want to give them more of.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
A reason to stay at the school.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
And that gives the coach more of a foot to
stand on to be able to coach them because he's right.
Agents are calling coaches and saying, yeah, we might not
play in this game, we might opt out of the season.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
You saw what happened with the quarterback at UNLV.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
I mean there are there are these agents, and these
kids are leveraging the NIL and the portal to be
able to say I don't feel like the practice in today,
I don't feel like doing what you're telling me to do.
I don't feel like coming to meetings. You got to
put more of a structure in place now where you
can't loophole the system the way that the athletes are
doing now, the loophole in the loophole in the system,

(27:22):
and how the current players who are on these rosters
are leveraging in the system. They're looking at a situation
to be like, you know.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
What, I can't have a guy, a guy that's coming
out of high school coming to play college basketball with me,
and I'm here averaging twenty five points and this young
man that's coming in is making more money than me.
So what is the guy going to do on the
team that's averaging on those twenty points?

Speaker 2 (27:49):
You see?

Speaker 4 (27:50):
You know what, I can't have this or this freshman
coming and making more money than me. I'm putting myself
on the market to go somewhere else to make more
money because I'm not I'm not going to stand for
a guy that's younger than me coming into the program
that's making money to me. So what am I going
to do? I'm leverage myself and put myself in a
situation to make more.

Speaker 5 (28:10):
Money it's a workplace. Now you're creating a competitive workplace
and that exists in the real world. And like with
his point too, I can I can stack me a
couple million, and whether I make it to the NBA
or the NFL or not, I stacked me a couple
million while I'm in school, and I'm good.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
Now.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
You know what, plex I tell Mike, I have preached
to my kids and the kids that I mentor that
that's exactly how you should be thinking. You should be
working to build yourself up and build your brand so
strong that you don't need to actually only have one
job opportunity when you're leaving school. You should have multiple options,

(28:49):
multiple ways of being able to generate income by the
time you're leaving school, and it should not have to
necessarily be you making it to the pros. You and
I both know how small that percentage is. So for
the most part, if one of those kids, if we
even looked at the amount of five stars or four
stars or three stars that go to the pros after

(29:09):
coming in from high school, it's still a very minute number.
It's still a very minute percentage in comparison to't who
do not make it. In so why would you not
motivate and inspire these young athletes to see themselves as
more than just athletes. So to me, I feel like

(29:33):
in a lot of ways we get lazy in our
approach as to how we look at what's going on
with these young athletes, and we make it a point
to say, oh, they are student athletes, Oh they are students,
students student student athletes. Well what exactly does that mean?
And now you're starting to see if the educational process

(29:53):
is what it's supposed to be, because now the educational
system has to take a look at this, and curriculum
has to adapt into just to it as well. Even
in high school, right start teaching these kids how to
understand what their brands are, how to build a brand,
what does.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
That look like? The College LeVar doesn't have a brand,
most of them don't. And that's the reason why.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
And and so that's the Evigids won't see the NFL.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
We know that, and I wouldn't say that we.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
Are we are getting lazy in our approach. What Penny
is saying is making the kids lazy in their approach.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
That's making that's making some of them, it's making some
of them entitled it's making some of them lazy in
their approach. But let's be real, plex them type of
dudes have always been around them. Type of dudes have
always guys that don't want to practice and practice when
they want to practice. They've always been around they have

(30:55):
all It's just that the circumstances have changed. The circumstances
have changed, and now the rabbid has the gun. I mean,
that's just the reality of it. So now there has
to be a forced way in my estimation, of really
adapting and adjusting to the changing times. And that's ultimately
what it comes down to, because they're generating way too

(31:15):
much money and at this point, now that the money
is becoming a thing that is connected to the athletes,
you got to figure out how it works for the
athletes as well as the coach, as well as the universities.
That's ultimately what it's going to come down to, because
it's not going anywhere. All right, we've run out of time.
Will This is obviously a conversation on the topic that
will continue to persist and continue on, so we'll get

(31:36):
back to it at some point. But let's get to
our guy, Isaac long Kron. It what you got in
the updates, I love.

Speaker 6 (31:41):
Well, Levari got the bay. How's it going black? So
we got the Big Twelve Championship game underway from AT
and T Stadium in Arlington. Number fifteen Arizona State leading
sixteenth lanth Iowa State ten to seven with two forty
six left in the first quarter. Arizona State got on
the board first with a field goal. Iowa State answered
with a three yard touchdown pass from Rocco Beck to

(32:01):
Carson Hanson. A short time ago. Arizona State went forward
on fourth and one from its own thirty four yard line,
and Sam Levitt complitted a sixty three yard pass to
Melkwon stowball down to the Iowa State three yard line,
and then, on third and goal from there eleven moments ago,
scored on a three yard touchdown run. Number fifteen Arizona
State leading sixteenth ranked Iowa State ten to seven with

(32:24):
two forty six left in the first quarter of the
Big Twelve Championship game. Off the field, multiple outlets have
reported within the last hour that Oklahoma State and Mike
Gundy have an agreement in place for Gundy to continue
as head coach on a restructured contract and Finally, NFL
Media reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are placing tight end
Dallas Goddard on injured reserve because if a knee injury

(32:45):
got it will be eligible to return for the final
week of the regular season. Lauren Plax back to.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
You guys, appreciated eye Low.

Speaker 5 (32:53):
I wanted to get to the Steelers Pickens Brown's new
sum deal, but we got to take a break because
I want to have our full time on this last
segment to be able to talk about the Boise State
and Ashton gent situation. And I want you guys to
hear sound from Cam Newton from ESPN and what he
had to say about the college playoff in schools like

(33:14):
Boise State and what they represent to the college playoffs.
So we're not gonna talk Pickens and Newsome. Sorry, can't
pay off the tea's that way, but I just paid
it off by letting you know we're not gonna talk
about it. We're gonna take a quick break. This is
up on Game. It's Fox Sports Radio. All right, We'll
be right back to Plexico and LeVar. All right, all right,

(33:35):
welcome back in. We're into Tyraq dot Com Studios. Shortly
after the show, make sure you know you check out
our podcast. It'll be going up. If you missed anything

(33:56):

up on Game wherever it is you get your podcasts,
and you'll see today's show.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Post it right after we get off the air.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
Plex before we get to the end of this hour,
I wanted you to be able to comment on and
react to what Cam Newton had to say. He goes
on as an analyst with ESPN. He had some strong
opinions on the college playoffs and some of the teams
that are in it.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
We talked about.

Speaker 5 (34:23):
Ashton Genty and what he represents in the Mountain West
Conference title game and if they were to win and
gent's up for the Heisman, he's a favorite to possibly
win it. Here's what Cam Newton had to say about
these teams like Indiana and Boisean SMU.

Speaker 9 (34:40):
Nobody wants to see SMU. Nobody wants to see Arizona State.
Nobody wants to see Indiana. Nobody wants to see Boys
and State straight up. Like, when I'm seeing this, I'm saying,
how do you play before a team who's lost or
Ole Miss has lost the University of Florida, Kentucky and UGA,
even Miami for that matter. You lost to a Georgia

(35:03):
Tech team that went to eight overtimes with UGA, Right,
that's a considering factor.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
I just think we need to really consider team strength
of schedule.

Speaker 9 (35:12):
Or you're talking about the national championship, do you or
have you really earned the right to say that playing
the top the tier talent that you've played and no
Boise Like without it being gent, I'm like, I don't
want to see Boise State. And if Boise State where
to play Georgia, would Gent really get off?

Speaker 2 (35:37):
See?

Speaker 5 (35:37):
I want to hear your your your take on it,
plex but I got a quick one. But what's your take?
It's some validity and truth behind it. I understand what
he's saying. You know, Indiana, it has on one hundred
and second strength of schedule, SMU has the easiest schedule

(36:00):
and all of college football.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
You know what I mean? We're looking at Arizona. They're
just schedule the sixty six Arizona State and it is
some valiity behind it, but it's I think it's better
for college football because we get an opportunity to see
an Ashon Genty.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
Listen a lot of on the East Coast.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
If it wasn't for yesterday or the last couple of weeks,
we wouldn't even know who ashing Genty is because you
don't get to see a using.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Genty in a Boise State football team.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
So now you look, we're looking at this situation to
where man everybody was saying that we know that Travis
Hunter is the best playing college football. What if he
does go out he eclipses Therm in the Thomas' record
or what are the voters over here going to decide?
So there are some pros and obviously there's going to
be some cons with this moving forward, but I think

(36:57):
that's the best best thing for college football. And just
like you said, I do, I do believe that it
does come down to a you know, a strength of schedule.
When you have an Alabama team who is nine and three,
people want to see Alabama, you know, And he does
have a point with some of the points that he's making.
But I think it's the best thing of college football.

(37:17):
I think it's going to only continue to get better,
and obviously you know it's going to have some scrutinies
of moving forward.

Speaker 7 (37:24):
I got to ask this to Cam, Like Auburn is
basically the Indiana of the SEC. I know people gass
up Auburn all the time, but like we're talking about
knocking out a Big ten team now, like from a
guy who you know played at all, we're knocking out
like power for schools already just because you don't like
them enough. I don't like this president being.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
Said as a fan, it's the same thing that happened
with Florida State last year.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
It's the same exact thing. And Florida State is a
known brand.

Speaker 5 (37:55):
They're a known commodity, like a much more established and
known commodity in football than what Indiana is. I just
think as a fan, the whole idea of this is
why you lace it up, you put the pads on,
and you play the game. That should mean something. That
should mean something. If you prepare, you go to a school,
you prepare for the season as a player. Those those

(38:17):
players don't decide and choose what their record or what
their school you know, schedule is. You prepare, you line
it up, you get ready, you play the season. If
you win, there should be some type of reward if
you win. And if you're at a certain level and
you're winning all your games or you win your conference,
you should have the opportunity to strap it up and

(38:38):
compete and see how you compare. Sometimes it's not about
what people want the matchup to be. Sometimes it's about
who earnt the matchup. Your schedule is your schedule. You
took that schedule knowing that you could possibly lose some
of these games. Okay, that's what it is.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
That's what you did.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
Your school chowse that it's part of your com friends. SEC,
they don't want all that smoke. They don't play as
many conference games right as the Big Ten. They don't
want that smoke. They want cupcake games at the end
of the year where they play Troy State or or
a pine you know, Pine Bluff or whatever it is
that they play at the end of the year. They
don't want all that until they get into the championship round,

(39:20):
the SEC championship.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
I just think as a fan, yes and on one part.

Speaker 5 (39:25):
One side, I would love to see a Notre Dame
versus Alabama versus Notre Dame versus Boyse.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
I would love that.

Speaker 5 (39:32):
But on the other side of it, it's like, why
is Boyse here? Show me why they're here? My daughter
plays for LMU. If there wasn't underdogs and underdogs having
the opportunity to show what it is. We never have
Cinderella stories. We never have underdog stories. We never have
a Hank Gathers, We never have guys that come from

(39:53):
Gonzaga that were the reason why a team won in
the tournament. Stuff like that. I think there are positive
and I think there are negatives to it. I don't
necessarily all the way agree with Cam, but with that
being said, he does make some valid points on what
it is that he's saying. All right, listen up, y'all,
take a deep breath, think about what we just talked about,
because well we're going to take a quick break as well.

(40:15):
Our two of up on game is coming at you
in just a matter of seconds. At the top of
the hour. We will be talking a little football, but
we do have cuffs the legend coming on as well.
I know you're excited about that plexico. This is up
on game Is, Fox Sports Radio will be right back
