Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is it right or is it wrong? We're talking about
being there for the birth of your child.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's coming up right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
As we come to you live is always from the
tire rack dot Com studios.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Tire rack dot Com.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free roadhazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire
rack dot com. The way tire buying should be Lorrain
at Coop And of course Addie Garcia is here tonight.
Nicks have taken a two to zero lead over the
Pacers after winning. As you just heard from Eddie one
thirty to one twenty one. Tyre's Halliburn was pretty good tonight,

(00:36):
but the Knicks were better. Three players with twenty or
more points, five and double figures shot sixty percent from
the floor. But I will say this, this is the
SoundBite that you'll hear all day today. This is what
most people are gonna want to talk about, Eddie. This
is Rick Carlisle.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Afterwards, after game one, we always go through the film
and games where it felt like, you know, the whistles
weren't balanced and we pulled the clips and there's a
there's a way you can submit them to the to
the NBA office. There were twenty nine plays in Game
one that we thought were clearly called the wrong way.

(01:13):
I decided not not to submit them because I just
felt like, you know, we get a more balanced whistle tonight.
It didn't feel that way. A couple examples, five away
to the third. You know, the whole world knows that
Hellburn's got a bad back and Heart comes up and
shoves him in the back, and it's all over Twitter
right now because a couple of people of a few

(01:35):
people have showed it to me and JB.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
De ros is looking right at it. You can see him.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
He's got he's got vision of the play and he
shoves Ty right into the corner and there's no whistle
right in the back.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
And so that was that was shocking, you know. And
there there are many others.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
But I can promise you that we're gonna submit these tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
New York can get ready. They'll see him too. You know.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
I'm always talking to our guys about not making it
about the officials, but you know, we just we deserve
a fair shot, you know, And and it's just it's
just not it's just there's not there's not a consistent.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Balance and that's disappointing.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Give New York credit for the physicality that they're playing with,
but you know, their their physicality is rewarded and ours
is penalized, just you know, time after time, and so.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
I'm just really disappointed, just really disappointed.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I don't Eddie, where did you come out?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Boohoo, bukaroo or kudos to Rake Carlisle for standing up
and saying something I.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
Would tend to be on the side of. You know,
I I don't think it's crying necessarily. I think, like
I said, we had the two minute report from the
previous game, which clearly showed that there were errors and
there were miscalls. So it's not like he's making it up.
The NBA itself has said that there were calls that
went against his team. I don't know that it was

(03:00):
that extent in the in game two as it was
in game one. But no, I mean, I don't think
he's making it up. But he is trying to get calls.
There's no doubt about that planning in the mind. Sure,
I don't blame him. He's trying to do what's best
for his team.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
I like, I really want to like Rick Carlisle, like,
I really want to like him. I think he he
had his little falling out with with Luca allegedly.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Boy, can I tell you something? By the way, side
note there is.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
We're on a great station in Dallas. We are on
the ticket in Dallas. It might be the greatest sports
radio station on the planet. And there is one like
I think he's an SMU fan. And every time he
even bring up a Dallas topic, I get he's like,
you don't know what you're talking about? And what's May
sixth and four pm when Rick carl and I'm like,

(03:46):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I don't care. He's not the Mavericks coach anymore. I
don't care.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
If it's a falling out between he and Luca, I
don't care. But I want to like him.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
He seems surly, he seems angry, He never seems happy. Dude,
dude went having a nice head of lettuce to suddenly
going bold and it just I feel bad for him
because it's just not a good look. But I kind
of think he's coming across as a liner here. I
really do. And I don't disagree with him. I think
he's right. I just don't know if he can say

(04:15):
it out loud. So we'll debate and discuss that throughout
the night at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
But Eddie, I want to hit the Rudy Gobert story
because it's everyone's had their take on it. I feel
like it's been a three day conversation. I don't know
how much you would know ended up getting into it
the first company.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
Not too much.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Okay, So today today Rudy Gobert spoke about missing Game two.
He missed Game two. I had a quote from David
mcminnimon of ESPN. It was incredible. I was exhausted, obviously
holding the baby and watching the game at the same time.
But I had a little bit of emotions at the
end because it felt like there was something special their energy,

(04:53):
that they put in their focus, that they had the determination.
I don't know, there was just something special with the
way they came out, and not just the way they
came out, the way they played for forty eight minutes
that night.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
It was an incredible day. It was incredible.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
It was an incredible way to end the day for
me and obviously for the whole Let's take one step
back you, Okay, Eddie with the missing a playoff game. Now,
let's not even say game in general, a playoff game
for the birth of his first child or in general.
Do we have a problem with that as a show?

Speaker 5 (05:28):
I I don't think I do.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
But then I realized it's the playoffs, man, right.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
It's like a yeah, it was a regular season game,
I would definitely have no problem with it. The fact
that it was a playoff game does make me kind
of pause.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
A little bit.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
I wouldn't. I don't blame anybody for Look, I don't
blame anybody for doing it, and I don't blame anybody
for playing, you know what I mean. I could see
it either way. It's a personal decision. If it were me, personally,
I think I would be there for the birth of
my kid. But I don't have any kid, so I don't.
I can't really speak on it for sure, But you do, Lorena?

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Does?

Speaker 5 (06:07):
I think your guys opinion would be a lot.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
I don't think Lorena would have a choice.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
I'm just I'm asking you if she, if she had
her husband was a professional out, Okay, how would she
feel about it?

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Oh gosh, that's a great Lorena, Well, don't she taco
here yet I don't want to interup dinner.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
I failed.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
I didn't even try blasphemy. Uh no, okay, So actually,
when I did give birth to my daughter, this is
totally lame. My baby daddy only worked at A and
W and they forced him to go to work the
next day, and I just looked at him. I'm like,
you're really gonna leave me? Like I get it if
you're gonna make millions of dollars like Hoop said, but

(06:43):
also the player, like this is your first baby, You're
gonna play in multiple games, and you already have so
much money just from being a signed player, Like what
is this moment more important to you?

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (06:58):
Also, maybe you should have timed out your pregnancy, but yeah,
maybe you shouldn't have gotten a pregnant nine months before
you knew you were going to be in a finals.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
You know.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
That funny thing is I always I have three kids.
None of them were and none of them. Was there
ever a moment in any of the three where I
looked at my first wife at the time and my
current wife three by two what's up?

Speaker 2 (07:22):
NBA?

Speaker 1 (07:23):
But I where we're like, hey, you know nine months
from now. This would be a perfect time to have it,
you would think, you would think, though, I don't have
to worry about a season, right, I mean, yes, I
cover football, Yes I cover softball, but I'm not an
integral part of anything. I can call a boss and say, hey,
can I have this day off? I want to go
out of my kid and probably get it. This is

(07:43):
a dude that I mean, let's I mean what the
Timberwolves give up five first round.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Picks to go get him?

Speaker 7 (07:49):
He makes like sixteen million or something, A seasoned seasonal player.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
He knows when he has to be on You.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Got to plan a little bit better eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
I want to get right to you, but Coop, I
want to get your take on this because you actually
inspired me to want to dive into this, because I
didn't realize how kind of opinionated many people were on this.
Because you're You're of the thought, if I was understanding correctly,
that you don't think he has any business missing the
game at all?

Speaker 8 (08:17):
Right, Well, I mean, I just I don't know. I
think it just there's levels to this go ahead. So
it depends if she's going into labor at you know
around game time. Okay, fine, Like I get it. You

(08:37):
want to be there for the birth of your kid.
But from what I understood, and maybe I was wrong
about this, but I remember hearing this is that she
had already had the baby before the game started, right.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
So like the hockey player, like the hockey player, right right,
And so if that's the case, all right.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
You were there for the birth nor, Yes, exactly, I
can get on board with that.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
You know, I don't know, Lorrain. You tell me if
you think I'm incorrect on this.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Your main goal as the father in a birth, it's
not really anything to do with the baby.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
It's taking care of the mom.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
So whenever you're like, hey, the baby was born, so go,
if you have a good support system there, right, Like
if her mom is there and she's got sisters and
they got family there, then maybe you feel a little
bit more comfortable.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Right.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
And if there was no complications too.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Right, exactly exactly, if it was a smooth birth, I
get that too. So I dug into a little bit
of history on this, because you were talking Eddie, trying
to remember some NFL ones, and I forgot how slippery
of a slope this was, and still seems to be
for the NFL. I'm looking at old stories about a
guy named David Williams, whom many.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Of you probably have never heard of before.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
He was an offensive lineman for the Houston Oilers, who
are now the Tennessee Titans. Tell people that I really
need to make that. I think everyone knows the Oilers
were the Titans. Anyway, David Williams missed the game when
his wife gave birth to their first kid, and the owner,
Bud Adams, not only find him one hundred and eleven
thousand dollars, but then publicly took shots at him for

(10:20):
choosing his family over the Oilers. I mean, I understand.
I think there's one thing to where you can kind
of say, hey, listen that we really need you here.
But when you publicly like go out and basically say yeah,
he's not a true team player, that's what Bud Adams
did in ninety three. We apparently had a myriad of

(10:40):
issues in twenty and twelve in the NFL. And that's
only going back math twenty four and twelve years ago,
not quite twelve years ago yet.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
But Charles Tillman.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Said that he might miss a big Sunday night game
with a potential Super Bowl preview with the Bears in
the Textans think about that Eddie. They were trying to
sell the Texans and Bears as a Super Bowl in twelve.
Pina Chilman later said the baby will be born Monday
and he'll be ready to play, but not before, not before,
basically laying out, hey, if the baby comes early, I'm

(11:11):
not missing it. Ben Roethlisberger said the same thing. Darryl
Tapp said the same thing. But those are all a
little bit different because what are they not? They're not
playoff games? Right, So do we have a little bit
more leniency and understanding when it's not a playoff game?
It is there that role.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Is it right? Is it wrong? I don't know.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
I'm intrigued by kind of to see what the responses
have been because I feel like everybody's dancing.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Around how they think, Hey, bro, you need to be playing.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
In that game because you're a key part of it,
and we're just in an era that is very cool
in allowing you to have the opportunity to go do it,
or at least very lenient in allowing you to have
the opportunity to do it. And I'm not saying that's
my take, Eddie. I just feel like everyone kind of
looks it and says, ooh, dude, I mean you're planning

(12:03):
around this was kind of odd timing wise, but at
that same vein it is the playoffs, and you don't
know how many more of these opportunities you're going to have.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
Yeah, I mean, I think Lorraine and Coop both brought
up really good points. I just think again, it's you know,
your life does need to be more about your job,
even if your job is really important. Uh. And you know,
I don't know how many kids Rudy Gobert has or
will have. I think this is his first. Yeah, I
think if I mean, if it were me, yes, I

(12:32):
would try and plan it better if I could, and
if and if she did already have the child, I
would be like the hockey player and go afterwards. Right,
I've seen it, You're good, I'm gone, But ultimately I
have to be there for the for the birth of
my first child. For sure, I'm gonna be there.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yeah, I think so too, all right eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six
six three six Night Paul, It's been waiting Paul's in Minnesota.
Good morning, Paul, you're on Fox Sports Radio. What's going on?

Speaker 9 (13:00):
Yeah, good morning five eighty. Oh that's wrong, Grunk Show. No, Yeah,
Rudy tried to get there, like Coop said, he had
the baby, and but his flights there were a bunch
of flights canceled because of high wins in Denver, and
so he tried to get there, and he would have

(13:22):
gotten there, but the high winds, you know, canceled a
bunch of flights, and he didn't get He didn't make it.

Speaker 10 (13:28):
So that was the otherwise he was going.

Speaker 9 (13:31):
To be there.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Well, let's let's pull it back then, just in general,
to put yourself in a position to where you're at
risk of having something like that happened, right to where
a flag could get canceled, our car could break down,
or something where you're not there with your team. Again,
I have no problem with it, but what has been
the reaction through Minnesota? And they won the game, So
I guess it's kind of an irrelevant conversation, right for some.

Speaker 9 (13:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's it's got a big We don't
need him.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Oh I wouldn't go that far man, No, right.

Speaker 10 (14:04):
That's all I wanted to say, and.

Speaker 9 (14:08):
Hollering Jeans is the best caller from Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Oh, thanks for the call. Yeah, hollering James was actually
on hold earlier. We have some sort of weird delay.
Was he calling from space? Do you ever have that
happen where you just have a weird delay or where
Paul and I just not jiving? Is that kind of
what happened there? Listen, I've got no problem. If Minnesota
would have lost that game, I think there would have
been a much different perspective on this. And I'm maybe

(14:35):
a little bit desensitized because I've had three kids, and
I'm like, eh, you know, as long as your wife's
healthy and as long as you got to support staff,
you don't really do anything whenever it comes to being
a dad. Whenever your baby's born, you got incredible nurses.
You want to have that golden hour and then boom,
you're off. To make sure that the protection is in

(14:56):
place to where that baby is taken care of and
you can provide for them. Now, based on Rudy Goobert's contracts,
the ends are meeting like a mother. And I don't
think any employer, employee whatever wants to be in a
situation where like, Hey, you can't go see the birth
of your first kid, right, you don't want to be
in that position. I'm just saying it seems wild to
think that in a playoff that in twenty twenty four,

(15:18):
we're all cool with it, and if you went back
thirty years ago, oh man, it'd be like a national
story and everyone twenty years ago.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
I was in stories from twelve years ago.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
It's amazing how we've changed our perspective on this at
He's just wild in a good way.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
I think.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
Yeah, I don't know when maybe it was. I mean,
it wasn't really that gradual. It seemed like it opened
pretty quickly. And I'm not sure Howard and when it
actually changed, but it definitely is a lot different than
not that long ago. As you said, all right, let.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Me get Chris from Minnesota in here.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Then we'll put a rap on this topic and dive
into a little bit of football news. Good morning, Chris,
you get the last word of Fox Sports Radio on
the go Bear Decision.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
What's going on? Man?

Speaker 10 (15:57):
Hey, good morning guys, Thanks for taking my calls. I'll
be honest with you. I'll scrolling through the X machine
and I saw Rudy was out and being the Minnesota fan,
we don't get anything nice around here, you know. So
I went they immediately went through the five stages of degree.
If like, oh, Rudy Gobar's gonna be out, this is
gonna be you know, the tides are gonna turn from here.

(16:18):
Denver's gonna you know, take the next four games. But
then I sat back and then thought about it. Minnesota
is stacked. They have they have long wings, you know,
and Nikail, Alexander, Jane McDaniels and Kat can jump up
to the five. And we also have nos Reed and
nos Reed had four blocks you know against that team.

(16:38):
But I will be honest, we do not get anything
nice around here.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
You know.

Speaker 10 (16:42):
I was twelve years old when we had Garnett and
to Sell and Spree well, and it was just such
a small window. So you know, the sky's the limit
with this team, right, So I think, I don't think.
I mean, it's easy to say now, but I'm okay
with him missing the game for his show.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
I'm not. I'm on the rateside.

Speaker 10 (17:05):
I you know, you got to be there for your wife.
I have three kids ranging from thirteen to three, and
it's hard as hell, harder than hell being this minisla sports.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
Fan to you.

Speaker 10 (17:17):
Yeah, you know, so I was okay with it. I
really was, especially watching the game and the way things
turned out. Yeah, it's I'm okay with him missing the game.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
I appreciate phone call. I will add one more thought
to this.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
I was I was reading an old Pro Football Talk
story and this paragraph said exactly what Eddie was preaching.
And this again is from twenty and twelve, November of
twenty and twelve.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
It's a thorny issue.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
My position was and is, and I'm sure this is
Florial right, because I think he was one man banning
it in twenty twelve. My position was and is that
the players have made a lifestyle choice that entails being
available sixteen days per year, no matter what if they
choose not to plan their nine month family expansion activities

(18:10):
to coincide with the eight months per year when their
work activities don't entail playing games that count, why should
their team suffer the consequences? Though WHOA seems to be
a little bit seems to be more of like a
two thousand and seven late nineties take right there from
someone like Florio who did have an updated view on it,

(18:31):
But I can't for some reason click on it, but
it shows you there's split ways of looking at And
I'm a little bet right now that if that team
would have fallen apart against Denver and Jokic would have
had like fifty or they struggled inside, there'd be a
much different take. But Minnesota dominated by the way he

(18:51):
mentioned the Minnesota how they can't have nice things. Didn't
you come to the understanding on the show this week
that the Twins of the of the cities Minnesota, of
the cities that have the four majors right football, basketball, baseball,
and hockey, that Minnesota is in the longest stretch without

(19:12):
a title.

Speaker 5 (19:13):
That is correct? Wow?

Speaker 1 (19:15):
And who won the last title like the Twins, Danny Gladden,
Rip Kirby Pucket. Is it sad that I think I
could go through a name there and start in their
entire starting lineup and I probably couldn't tell you two
players on the Twins today, But you take me back
to nineteen ninety four Minnesota and we can have a
we could have a conversation about I don't know just

(19:37):
about anyone on that roster. For some Herbeck, for some
unknown reason, Scott Leis Scott leyis all right when we
come back with I'm the same way you give me
in a conversation about the eighty eight Dodgers. Oh, I'll
talk about their pitching rotation and the use of Mike Marshall.
You dive into some of these guys in the farm system. Now,

(19:58):
I'm like, I have no idea that guy.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
All right?

Speaker 1 (20:00):
When we come back to the Tirack dot Com studio,

Speaker 2 (21:35):
I didn't know Lorena was on Twitter.

Speaker 6 (21:38):
Yeah, look at this, I'm famous.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Oh my gosh, Lorena, look at you.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
They're all Ben Malor followers.

Speaker 5 (21:46):
They are quite lovely.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
It's awesome. I'm all about it. Let's go. I've got
a I got a question for you guys, speaking of
Big Ben.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Is there a take, maybe a benchmark tick? I use
that term a lot, maybe a hill that Ben is
on that you are just.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Kind of like, dude, can we let that go?

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Let me give you Skip Bayless and his hatred of
Lebron James, like he doesn't have the clutch gene when
the guy has what three four rings? It's kind of
hard to say that about a dude that has won
that many titles, But to continue trying to try to
peddle that because I got one involving one of our
FSR coorts that I think needs to kind of die.
Does Ben have one Eddie or Lorena or Coop That

(22:33):
kind of jumps in mind and you're like, ah, come on, Ben,
that's we gotta let that one go.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
He has a few. I would say, Look, I am
anti Astros as much as the next person. With all
the cheating that they did and not getting punished, time
to let that go. Well, the problem is is that
Ben cheats on all these silly games that we do.
So how can you call out out, you know, a

(23:01):
team for cheating and yet you cheat. I mean, I
realized the World Series and our little game shows not
quite equal right in importance, but still like the principle
of him, you know, talking about all how they cheated,
and yet you know he cheats, you know, on all
these games, and that makes sense.

Speaker 8 (23:21):
What else, Coop, what else saying that Lebron doesn't have
a ring with the Lakers. That one's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
The bubble, the bubbles, which gets hated on, But the
Dodgers csantly, the Dodg Dodgers Championship is the greatest.

Speaker 5 (23:35):
Yes, it was the most difficult, the most difficult of
all time.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Yeah, yeah, well, I'm glad that there were a few
that jumped out. I have some I have heels that
I'm probably dying on where I just should be left
for dead, and I won't let him go. But I
want to get Eddie's update because I really want to.
When we come back, I think I think we'd have
a conversation with one of our Fox Sports radio coorts

(23:58):
and really try to change their opinion on what I
think is one of the worst.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Benchmark takes ever.

Speaker 7 (24:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
So Chris ben Maller is away and he would like
me to mention, oh to our listeners that the first
mallor Meet and Greet of twenty twenty four comes up Friday,
May the tenth, three pm to five pm Eastern. The
location this is the name of the place my father's
Mustache wants a mustache rid my Father's Mustache James Island location,

(24:39):
but those apparently there's multiple mustaches. The address is seventeen
thirty nine May Bank Highway, Suite v as in Victory, Charleston,
South Carolina two nine four one two.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
So are these becoming more and more common? The Mallard
meet and greets?

Speaker 5 (24:59):
We have a couple of them a year. I would say, Okay, yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Very cool.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
I saw someone requesting earlier Eddie to have it happen
in Vegas.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Is that in the works or what?

Speaker 5 (25:10):
I don't I mean, I think it's a great suggestion.
I know, I know Coop would definitely be in he
loves Vegas. I think I would would enjoy that as well.
So yeah, I mean, other than something local, I think
that would probably be the only other place we would
probably go to Loraina. I don't know if you would
be in on that as well.

Speaker 6 (25:31):
As long as I get to sip martinis at the
vander Pump, I am in.

Speaker 5 (25:39):
You can sip all the martinis you want.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yes, so been on Friday. My father's mustache? Yeah, what
a name? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (25:47):
I agree?

Speaker 2 (25:48):
Time? What time are we doing? Three to five?

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Okay, it would be really cool if he did it
during the time of the show.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Two to six am Eastern time is when you can
join us.

Speaker 5 (25:58):
That would be Uh, that would be a good idea.
I think that's a great idea.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
We were speaking of ben it segues, right, and we
were talking about some of those takes in our friends
here on Fox Sports Radio might have where you're like, bro,
you're still on this. I I kind of think he
knows what he's doing at this point with it. But
I think it's time for Coward to retire the backwards
hat takes.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
It's a little old it.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
It kind of seems to be one of those where
it doesn't really fit. I don't even know if it's
been proven right in any instance. But if you don't
like guys wearing backwards hats, that's fine. But to make
that a way in which you judge the kind of
person or professional or player that could be has got
to be one of the funniest things I've ever heard

(26:45):
in my life.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
The latest and I listen. I'd play the clip, but
why I do that?

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Colin Coward has an issue with JJ Reddick because he
was wearing his hat backwards in of all places, a podcast, right,
because I really want to make you want to speaking
of old man yelling at clouds. This whole idea that
we have to watch everyone that talks on radio is
the most disturbing thing ever. The YouTube clips. I got

(27:16):
buddies to do podcasts like you gotta get on YouTube.
I'm like, I don't want to sit and watch you talk.
I want to listen to you. I have no desire
to sit there and stare at your face while you
talk and look uncomfortable while you're doing it. We're all
crazy people, we're all weirdos. Why do I need to
be staring at you while you talk? That's neither here
nor there, but in all places. JJ Reddick had the

(27:37):
audacity Eddie to wear a hat backwards daring a podcast.
So now now instead of being a coach, he quote
looks like a guy that's going to move my couch.
Words of Colin Coward, is this are you giving any
creams to this? Have you ever bought into or believed

(27:58):
in the Coward backwards at theory, And is it a
way in the world of Eddie Garcia or Lorena or
Coop in which you judge someone. Do you immediately have
bad vibes about the professional nature of someone wearing a
backwards hat.

Speaker 9 (28:15):
No.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
I think it's one thing for someone to do something
that you are annoyed by, right. It's another thing, though,
to make that about their character or their intelligence, or
their ability to do a job, or how seriously they
take their profession. That's asinine.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Well, I think that.

Speaker 8 (28:36):
You can tell a lot about somebody's character based on
whether or not they would turn the shopping cart to
the car Gral.

Speaker 5 (28:48):
That's been a big topic on the show.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Does Lorraina not put the shopping car now?

Speaker 5 (28:53):
Benn?

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Does it? I do it?

Speaker 5 (28:56):
Sometimes She's used her although as a shield.

Speaker 6 (29:00):
Yeah, I'll be like, I'm all leaving my child at
the car.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
Quick a little sidebar to this. My kids will make
me take it back. Those are some well raised children.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
What do you make you take it?

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Roll a little fit? It's like, Dad, you can put
the car back. Don't forget to put the car back.
I don't know if something happened where a cart hit
them when they were little or something that was just.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Rolling through a parking lot.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
But yeah, it's become something that I've kind of become
moys to do.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Huh.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
Well, Coop and I do it all the time just
because we're good people.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
But that's right.

Speaker 5 (29:29):
I would say if I had a kid that like
told me I had to do it, I probably wouldn't
do it just to tell them I'm boss.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
Well I'm dad. That sounds awesome in theory, but have
two girls and then that changes.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
I kind of do that same thing now with you guys,
you know's keep on giving me a hard time about it,
Like I want to be a smart Alec and take
take my shopping basket that I use on occasion and
leave that out in the parking lot.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
You're such a rebel just to do it, you know.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
So then there we go. You now, now, maybe then
to bring this back. Maybe that's also how Colin looks
at this. He's like, listen, I don't even believe this anymore.
But it's a pretty good bit and people tend to
lose their minds about it, and it's not I don't
know who Don Martin or Scott Shapiro.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
I don't think they pick up the phone.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
They're like, listen, Colin, we need you to drop the
backwards hat thing. I don't think that's something where anyone
is overly offended. I just think it's one of the
most ridiculous things I've ever heard in my life. I mean,
if I'm gonna judge someone based on how they wear
their hat, I mean, how petty?

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Am I right? It's just what are we even doing
right now?

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Especially whenever it comes to an NBA former player who
is doing it as a potential head coach. Alison, It's
ridiculous that the Lakers would even be talking about JJ
Reddick as a head coach.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
That's neither here nor there. But if they're doing it in.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
A podcast setting, it's not at a wedding, it's not
it's not in a TV it's in a podcast setting
where the dude is so I. By the way, a
few people have checked in on things they want, uh
that they feel like Ben as a bit needs to
move on.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Ye yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Ben cutting off callers when they use the word best
by saying best just means as good as all the rest,
for some reason irritates me. Everybody knows what the caller
is trying to say, yeah, I mean those those are
those certain benchmarks take me to Okay, I'm not meaning
this to pile on Ben by any stretches.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
By the way, serious Sean points out very correctly, Ben
also never pays off on his bets, which is one
hundred percent true. That's annoying, is that a Is that like.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
A Mallard Spaniard thing?

Speaker 5 (31:40):
Because well, Arnie doesn't doesn't pay off on his bets either.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Well, Arnie has threatened to quit it. He's like, I'll
quit my job if they lose.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
They lose, yeah, I mean, and and then Arnie will
get mad because he thinks mad Dog is copying off
him because about his job. Guys, if you knew the
number of text or calls I get from Arnie thinking
people are stealing things from him, you would crack up.
It's hilarious.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
But I don't know.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
I just, of all the things to get upset about
in this world, dudes wearing backwards hats, I think is
the farthest thing from it.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
All.

Speaker 1 (32:11):

start our number four The what is it? Arn't always

bonus hour?

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Sorry, very unique.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Catch me Sunday Nights with the Stinking genius Arnie Spaniard,
always talking about the Nicks, the Dolphins, and then inevitably
we get to actually what's going on in sports?

Speaker 2 (33:32):
A lot of good stuff too.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
On the on the Twitter Machine tonight at Plank Show,
That's me, Eddie is at Eddie on Fox the Late
night Drug Tester Rights. Are we replacing Askbin this week
with Ripbin?

Speaker 2 (33:46):
No, not at all. I don't want to have that label.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
I I do remember a couple more things in a.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Go ahead go ahead because basically, if you missed last
segment or if you fast forward through the podcast, I
brought up how I think one of the most tire
takes his sports is Colin Cowarts backwards hat theory. I
think he kind of knows what he's doing. But if
that's how you're judging people, what are we even doing?
And I ask you, guys, what are some Ben Hills
that he's dying on where you're like, dude, let it go?

Speaker 5 (34:12):
Well, just things that annoy me about Ben? Uh. He
will put out a Twitter poll and all of the
answers will be on whatever his take is, so he'll
put up, you know, something that he and I disagree
on and the only answers will be different versions of
his answer.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Right.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
So he will then come back and say, the poll,
the poll results are in. It's a landslide, Eddie. Everyone
is voting, voting against you, when, of course there have
no other options than to that's right, vote against me.

Speaker 6 (34:44):
The other option, Eddie is to not press any of
the buttons at all.

Speaker 5 (34:48):
But then there's no there's no no, even even one
person votes and it's a lanstone and you're still lost.
And then of course he will change people's tweets that
disagree with him and read them as if they actually
agree with them, which is I mean, that would infuriate
me if he did that, which is you know what
he likes to do.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
You know, it's it's funny that you say that about
the Twitter poll. Is my beloved side sidekick, I'm his
sidekick whatever. On Sunday nights. Artie doesn't even know how
to do a Twitter pole. So he'll sit there me like,
do one of those Twitter pool things, just put them
out there. I'm like, can you not do a Twitter pol?
So the very least you have someone that can do
their own Twitter pool, so you have that.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Jeff Wrights.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Ben can't get past his bad, ongoing and original Kyler
Murray take, which he would never be an NFL quarterback,
and then he said he would never be drafted in
the first round, and then he wouldn't be drafted one overall,
on and on. Yeah, And it's funny because has Kyler
Murray been Has his production been that of what you
would expect the number one pick in the draft to be?

Speaker 2 (35:49):
Probably not, but I don't. I don't feel like he's
going anywhere.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
Boy, I do root for that day when Arizona beats
the Rams in a playoff game or something. It'll be
another excuse, right, It'll be something else. Well, it wasn't
Kyler Murray. It was their incredible defense that got him there.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Right. That's that's not always.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
He doesn't give credit to any team. It's always someone
that's always about who loses. So he would you know,
he really he doesn't have a problem ripping his teams.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Yeah, No, I don't lose, I will say.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
That's That's one thing when when someone's called a homer
because I'm I'm obviously I'm a homer for the Oklahoma Centers,
I'm a homer.

Speaker 5 (36:24):
For the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
But this whole idea that you make everything sunshine and roses.
I don't want to see him lose. I don't want
It's the worst feeling in the world whenever your team loses,
and well, I mean in our fake little sports world.
So this whole idea that oh, you just always saw
about the positive stuff, I think, no, no, no, you
got to talk about the negative stuff because you have
to shine a light on why they're stinking and why

(36:46):
it's not going well. Boy, jedhu fleds in a tweet,
I don't know if you saw it, Ed, he did
tag you guys on it, and he's got me on
this website because I love conspiracy theory.

Speaker 5 (36:58):
Didn't click on it. I did not.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
I was worried at first that it could have been
some sort of I don't know, either spam or I
was gonna end up giving up my Twitter handle. But
it's not too bad. It's not too bad. I kinda
I believe it a little bit. In jehu Fled kicked
the show off right this Anything that has a dash
in the url for a Twitter feed for a website

(37:22):
always scares me a little bit. But he wrote, I
would be the first one to tell you not to
heed my advice. But if you give this site a Looksie,
I am one hundred percent sure you will change your
views on all things conspiracy. A Milkman rights. It's funny,

(37:44):
Plank how you said the FBI isn't in the business
of protecting people who who've done something wrong. JFK would
differ well. JFK was the president show Hey o'tani was
the designated hitter for the Dodgers. There's a major difference
if you want to talk conspiracy theories involving the FBI

(38:05):
or Major League Baseball. In less one of those FBI
agents has show Hay on his fantasy team. I don't
think we're gonna go to in depth in trying to
protect them. And then Yafimi writes, guys, wake Arnie up.
What he's probably already up. He's probably already taken notes
on the show. He's probably got his yellow note pad
out with the Roman numerals, all right, when we come

(38:25):
back Hockey Talk to kick off the final hour of
the Ben Mallor Show right here on Fox Sports Radio.
