listening to Fox Sports Radio Moon What Up America? Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio broadcasting live from the Farmer's
Insurance Open at Beautiful Sunny Tory Pine, San Diego. Was
that Farmers Insurance dot Com for tournament info or joined

(00:44):
the conversation at hashtag f I O nineteen we are Farmers.
I got in. Uh let's see here be eighteen minus
three is fifteen fifteen holes and so my golf a
d D did not did not set in? Uh, fifteen
holes of golf. When I left, Okay, ct Pannas are

(01:05):
is our pro. He was awesome playing with the NBC
Sports and former Charger and Patriot Rodney Harrison as well
as Dan Buyer. When I left, we were tied for
third place. Tied for third place, and let's let's just
see how the crew finishes because if they fall off
a cliff, as Max Kellerman and Rob Parker thought, Tom

(01:26):
Brady would, I just want to point out, like my
plus minus would be much higher now. Of course, if
they win the damn thing, I should I should get
actually no benefits from from the victor, yes, or by music, Doug.
I am looking here at the live odds. Before you
left to win the group, you guys were at plus
two fifty. They have just been updated minus one ten.

(01:51):
Not looking good for for your plus minus. I would
I would only tell you this that you saw me
very early in the day. As the day went on,
your boys started warm up and and throw some darts
and throw some darts at the shamble that's taking place
the pro am here at Torry Pines getting ready for
the Farmer's Insurance Open, which you can join that conversation
in hashtag f I O nineteen. This is the Dug

(02:13):
Gotliep Show. We'll talk some tiger Woods. Remarkable here his
group is actually leading. Uh. That's because on on some
molds you can use his score. He can't use his ball,
but you can use his score. That just seems unfair.
Roy McElroy in second place and my group was tied
for third place, so those guys out and conditions ideals
should be pointed out. Also, Tigers playing the North course,
which is not the tournament course so much as the

(02:34):
South is the U s O. And playing the South,
that's one more difficult, more picturesque, and you can follow
me at Gottlip Show if you want to see some
pictures from boy on the course earlier today. Um, we'll
get to Tiger Woods. We'll get to some some baseball
stuff where Marianna Rivera is rightfully a unanimous selection into
the Hall of Fame and the moronic, idiotic, flat out

(02:58):
blind argument that aceball fan is making about mo Rivera
being the first unanimous inductee into the Hall of Fame.
We'll get to we'll get to that. Um, and a
little bit of hoop stuff from last night and looking forward.
But I still want to talk about this NFL stuff
where the winding is still coming out of the Queen
City and like, look, this is this is much like

(03:21):
when you go out with you boy and his girl
dumped him and we're working on a month later. You
gotta stop. We're just we're done. I can't hear about
it anymore. Saints fans, got it blown call? It's over.
We have two teams selected to reach the Super Bowl.
That's it. We have the rest of the move world
has collectively moved on. And and what happens is, and

(03:45):
this happens in in every sport and every form of life,
is you go from being someone that we feel is
a victim to someone that we actually don't like because
you carry this victimhood badge across your chest, like got
it blown call? We're moving on now, But the push
continues to have instant replay used for judgment calls. And

(04:10):
I warned you about something that John Elway has talked
about that Stephen Jones has talked about, and it's the
the the constant pursuit of perfection. And look, if you're
a hard driving guy or girl, you're probably a victim
of this in your own life. Sometimes you leave a
really good job pursuing a great job and it ends
up being a bad job because you thought it would

(04:31):
be something that it wasn't. Sometimes you leave a relationship.
But even if you don't want to go grand scheme
of things, just look at the National Football League. What
has been the most discussed rule change of the last
fifteen years in the league. It was the catch rule. Right.
Why was the catch rule changed because we had a

(04:53):
decent catch rule. You gotta get two ft in bounds
and possession of the football, and then we had instant
replay which could show us, wait, the ball moved. We
had never heard this much discussion about something moving since
that Seinfeld episode where George said it moved. But what

(05:14):
was it? It was this pursuit of for we had
a good rule, with a good rule two feet down,
possession of the football. It's a catch. Make a football move,
it's a catch. But we had this well, did you
have possession when you went to the ground, did the
ball move? Did the football was it caused to move?

(05:34):
This was like ten years Calvin Johnson's Detroit Lions lost
a game and they didn't fix it, and it decided
who had home field advantaged. Last year in the playoffs,
the Patriots get home field. The Patriots go to the
Super Bowl and oh yeah, by the way, if you
watch the Super Bowl last year, they basically changed the
rule back on the fly. Remember remember Julian Edelman caught

(05:56):
the football, fell in the end zone, the ball moved.
They changed rule on the fly why, because we search
for perfection, and perfection is while it's well, let's say worthy,
cause it's not really attainable. Listen, it's not really attainable.
And the more you try, the worse it gets. That

(06:17):
that actually is the parallel to golf. Right, You get
up there and you think about your swing plane, you
think about keeping your head still, and you think about,
I gotta hit a little bit hard, So you swing
a little bit harder. The harder you try, the more
it's sprays right or duck hoots, took tooks to the left.
But if you don't have to look at life, you
don't have to look at baseball or golf or anything else,
just look at football in the catch rule, and you

(06:38):
will realize that this idea that way we wait. Now,
now we'll have reviews for judgment calls, for judgment calls.
There's a law of unintended consequences. And I can already
tell you what one unintended consequence is gonna be. Not

(06:58):
only longer games and longer stoppages and harder to watch
in stadium. But here's the big thing. It completely changes
the two minute drive penalty is thrown on a two
minute drive and all of a sudden we gotta go
to replay. Then there's a catch in a two minute
drive and we can't tell if the guy caught it,
and we go to the replay. The whole idea of

(07:19):
saving time outs and saving challenges and when can you
use this challenge and how do you use it? And
does the first quarter do you hold? Like? Forget all
of that. Human error is part of life. It doesn't
mean that I want complete human air It's not like
I want to fly an airplane without the use of radar.

(07:40):
It's not like I don't want power steering when I'm
driving my car. I have a nineteen seventy Vita bus.
It doesn't have power steering. Trust me. The two thousand
eighteen two thousand nineteen version is much better. But this
isn't a case of life and death and carse This
is sports, and players make mistakes, and the reason makes mistakes,

(08:02):
and they can in fact pick up flags already. If
they discussed decide as a group that they made a mistake,
I guess who agrees with me. John Elway, NFL Competition
Committee member, on the possibility the league would expand to
include pass interference. You can't replay every pass interference. It
won't work. It won't work. Stephen Jones, is on the

(08:24):
NFL's Competition Committee, didn't sound like he'd be in favor
of reviewing penalties. Certainly, you don't want to officiate the
game from replay. I don't think at the end of
the day, that's a good thing for the game. I'd agree,
right it is. It is not that precise a game,
close enough, and occasionally they get wrong, and by and

(08:48):
large they get it right. But the point is, this
constant pursuit of perfection changes what the sport is. The
sport is incredible because there's a clock, because there's two teens,
because there's amount of downs, because there's math to it.
I mean, look, let me just here. Here's one. Women

(09:11):
get plastic surgery, right because they want perfection. You ever
seen women? Have you ever noticed that there's a bunch
of women in Hollywood that all seem to look alike
and they're not related. Why do they all look alike?
Because plastic surgery doesn't is this pursuit of perfection, it
doesn't exist, and they all end up having permegrane and

(09:31):
having this weird thing on their cheeks where you're like
he had work done, and your desire to look younger
makes you look like the joker from Batman. I get it.
We all want better, we all want perfect, we all
want things to work out in our favor, and sometimes
the world gets screwed up. Okay, but if you want perfect,

(09:56):
there's unintended consequences to it. And whether it's those weird
mark next to a woman's corners of their lips when
they have plastic surgery, or whether it's the catch rule
which has been dialed back and essentially changed back to
the way it used to be, or it's this incessant
use of instant replay which slows down the game, makes
it utterly impossible to officiate in person and even worse

(10:18):
to watch as a football fan in person. John Elway
and Stephen Jones seemed to be the voice of reason.
More is not more, Less is more. The Doug got

take away you Kill? How'd they take away Travis Kelsey?

(11:02):
How did they really seem to bufuddle? What was an
offense that had been on track most of the entire
season in Kansas City? Will ask Great Coast because he
breaks down all the film, Plus we'll ask him as
much as that was? That was a blown call? What
the heck happened to Drew Brees at the end of
that season? Another offense which seemed to be plowing through

(11:25):
the Nastal Football League? How'd they take Michael Thomas away?

(12:35):
Leap Show rolls on here on Fox Sports Radio. Let's
welcome in great co cell from NFL Films. As um,
we're still coming down off that championship Sunday. Hi, Let's
let's begin Greg at the start of the day with
the Saints and the Rams. I don't want to relitigate
the call was a blown call. There were other blown calls,
but it it seemed to me that Drew Brees also

(12:56):
didn't play particularly well. How much of that was is breeze?
How much of that was the rams. You know, I
don't think Breeze, quite honestly, Doug played particularly well down
the stretch of the season. I thought there was a
noticeable drop off in his play beginning. Oh, I don't know.
It might have been week eleven or twelve, I forget
exactly what week. But I thought that he was not
as sharp, not as consistently accurate. I thought there were

(13:18):
times he left throws on the field. I think that
he was not quite as sharp going down the stretch. Okay,
so he wasn't quite as sharp going down the stretch,
And there's lots of things we can get into. But
I would point out, on first down a minute fifty
five to go out of the two minute warning, shouldn't
shouldn't John Payton have taken a look at running the
football and first and second down bleeding the timeouts out

(13:42):
of the l A rams before deciding what to do
on third down. Well, now we're getting into play calls
that can be debated forever. He threw what was essentially
a pass that Breeze would complete ninety nine out of
a hundred times. It was such an easy throw, and
he threw it into the dirt, so you're just you know,
we're debating play calls. I'm not good at that. I don't.

(14:03):
I don't normally do that because I think that those
are after the fact things, and you know, I just
I'm never comfortable with that. But it was a throw
that we've seen. It was an easy call and an
easy throw that you and I probably could have made. Yeah,
I I I understand it, and I've and the NFL
guys I've spoken with and said the exact same thing.
I just I guess my thing is, you know what

(14:24):
you you know, it runs the clock of the time,
run by the way. Let me let me tell you this.
If he made a good throw, there's a good chance
because I watched the tape that Thomas walks into the
end zone and we probably would have then said, I
love it. Peyton's aggressive and you gotta go after it
in big games. So that's why I don't get into that. Um,
why was Todd Gurley not seemingly not using me? You

(14:47):
watched the film, so what was he a decoy? Did
they put you know, two guys on him? Why? Why
was there not a ton of Todd Gurley? Un Well,
he didn't play a lot of snaps. So I mean,
I don't know the answer to that. Let's assume for
the moment that he's hurt. Uh, don't you know he
didn't play a lot of snaps. I thought the Saints
did some really good things with their defensive fronts without

(15:08):
getting into all the the XS and O nuances of it,
I thought they did some really good things to limit
the Rams run game, and it caused a problem for
the Rams because at their core, the Rams do need
to run the ball. Obviously, they won this game, but
you know, in the general flow of their offense, they're
not a one dimensional team. Pretty much their offense starts

(15:31):
tactically with the run game. And the Saints did a
really good job with their defensive fronts and their strategy
and tactics to take away the run game. But I
have to believe that girl, he was hurt. I thought
there was a big boy drive by by Jared Goff
at the end of the first half, right like they
needed points, and it felt like and and a lot

(15:51):
of us have questioned Jared Goff, hey can you And
I felt like he wasn't perfect, he wasn't the greatest
quarterback and and as as you pointed, out. If Michael
Thomas catches that ball runs in the ends on the
first down, a lot more pressure would have been on
Jared Goff, but he did get them into field goal
range after the field goal. But I thought the end
of the first half showed me that Jared Goff has
some lower intestinal fortitude that that had been questioned previously. Yeah,

(16:14):
if I'm not mistaken. One of those throws was to
Brandon Cooks for thirty six yards, and I thought that
was really nice design by Sean McVeigh because he understood, uh,
you know, how these Saints were playing. They were not
They didn't match up to specific receivers in this game.
So the way he structured his his formation, he actually
got Cooks on the slot corner Williams and Williams and

(16:37):
Cooks ran by him and it was a slot fade
and Goff made a great, great throw, but God made
you know, he had the the second reaction improvisation will
play late to Everett for I think thirty nine yards.
So you know, it's one of those games where neither
offense was really consistent, and then you get down to
quote unquote who makes plays when they count, And that's

(16:57):
what people look at in these games. Great Coastell joining
US NFL Films. He's been doing it for thirty nine years,
doing a great job, and kind enough to spend time
with us every week here on what he sees in
the all twenty two that we missed when we simply
watch his civilians on TV. Joined us in the Doug
Show here Fox Sports Radio. All right, let's get to
the Chiefs. And I felt like, again just to Layman,

(17:18):
I felt like, what a hell of a game plan
the Patriots had. Let's just start with the first half
of where you get to all all the other stuff.
First half, what did you see? First? Patriots offense? They
get the ball first, just like they did against the Chargers,
although they didn't they didn't win the car, they didn't
win the toss. They get the ball, they march right
down the field. What were they doing in the first half? Well,

(17:39):
first of all, they had I believe, six first downs
on that opening drive, and they had six different runs,
so that their run game over this last month or
so has become as diverse and multiple Doug as any
team in the league. And we don't think about the
Patriots that way because of Tom Brady and certainly We
still don't think of him that way because what Brady

(17:59):
did on the winning winning drive. But they have become
really multiple with their run game. They play a lot
with two backs with James Devlon, which is very rare,
very few teams do that. So their run game is
really kind of fun to watch. Um and and they
but they kept chewing up the clock, they kept using

(18:20):
it felt like you remember you remember back in the
days people used to just to Peyton Manning, but they
used to try and do it to Tom Brady as well.
The key to a really good defense is keep your
defense off the football field. Do you think that was
part of the game plan of the Patriots to keep
Pat Mahomes over there on ice on the sidelines. Yeah,
I'm sure it was. I mean it, I think it
certainly makes sense. But I think they've evolved. Look, they

(18:43):
did the same thing versus the Chargers. They ran the
ball really effectively. If I'm not mistaken. I think in
the last two games, these two playoff wins, I think
in the first half of the Chargers game, Sony Michelle
had sixteen carries and in the first half of the
Chiefs game he had nineteen carries. So yes, is there
an element of hey, let's control the ball. Sure, but
I think at its core they've also sort of evolved

(19:06):
and morphed into a running team as a foundational element. Look,
we know how good Julian Edelman is. We know that,
and Gront made a few plays. But you could make
the argument that at times over this last month it
seems like the two most important players on their offense
are Sony Michelle and James White. Yeah. Um, I want
to get the son of Michelle and James White and
and and Birkehead as well, because I saw something interesting.

(19:28):
I want to get your take on the second half.
But let's get to the other side. Um, Chiefs get
the football and I always share a brilliance. By the way,
tell me, tell me, tell tell us what they did.
It was a very I mean, when when you see
some of these things that Belichick does, I always think
to myself, God, that's so simple and so smart. Why
didn't I think of it? You know? And then I

(19:48):
feel like an idiot, But he's Belichick and I'm not.
But what they basically did is they put their worst corner.
It was either Jones or Crossing, they both played. They
put their worst corner on Hill, and they had Devin
mccordy essentially double team him on every play, So they
took Hill out with double teams, and then they had
everybody else basically play zero man. There was no safety

(20:11):
help because the safety mccordy was was dedicated double on Hill.
And then the other thing he did that was brilliant.
He put a corner on Travis Kelsey Jackson, So instead
of putting a safety Chung or a safety, he put
a corner. And it was just and and neither Kelsey
nor Hill were factors in the game. What should the

(20:32):
Chiefs have done to adjust? Well, they there's a lot
of things you probably could have done. They didn't really
do much until a couple of plays in the second half.
Much of what the Chiefs did offensively was done with
Mahomes being second reaction and improvisational and he's very very

(20:52):
good at that. Uh, it's just hard to be consistent
that way. And they really weren't um so, you know,
they didn't make to my way of thinking, they didn't
make a ton of adjustments, but they did, like I said,
have a few really nice, well designed plays to attack
that man coverage. In the second half, you know, it's interesting.
Also is great Costal Jonius NFL films breaking down what

(21:13):
really happened during Championship weekend here in the Dug Outleaf
Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um, they also were able
to get pressure on Mahomes and and and you know
that we heard from analysts after analysts saying, like, let
Patriots just like playmakers. They don't have Chandler Jones anymore,
they don't have you know, guys that you can just
you know, you know, let them loose and they're gonna

(21:34):
get after the quarterback. What were they able to do
upfront to get pressure on Mahomes against what's been seen
as a really good offensive line. Well, they did a
lot of stunting, uh, different kinds of stunts, particularly working
the inside stunts um. And they were very very good
at it um. Some of them had a delay element
to it um. So you know, they were able to
create pressure that way. They didn't just line up and say, hey,

(21:57):
let's rush the quarterback. They don't have great ask rushers
in that regard, so they have to scheme pressure and
they schemed it very very well in this game. And
we'll see when you play a ton of man like
that you can scheme pressure because you have an extra body.
You have an extra body. You have five people who
can rush, uh, not just four. So it's it gave

(22:17):
them that extra body and they did some really good things.
That's great stuff. Great Costell joining us in the Doug
Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Trading. All right, let's get
to the second half. Something I noticed. I know Sonny
Michelle ran one in the end zone, but it felt like,
it felt like in key situations, fourth quarter and at
times in overtime, they left Burkehead in because of the

(22:39):
and and and white in even though they're not as talented,
because of the trust factor, right, Like, you know what
you're not Sonny Michelle in in terms of making guys miss.
But let's not have a rookie hold the ball the
chance of it getting poked out and fumbling. Is that
too big a leap? Was it a matchup thing? Why
do you think it felt like Burkhead was in there
a lot more than Sony Michelle? Like, but that's a
hard question to answer, you know with let's actually never

(23:00):
know the answer to that. I mean, look, Michelle has
sort of been the the bell cat in the workhorse.
Um I don't. I would be hard pressed to think
it's a it's a lack of trust. I mean, here's
a guy you're basically building your offense around in the
first half of every game, which means it's game plan.
So I, you know, I don't know he's been carrying
the ball a lot. You know, basically I'm speaking around

(23:23):
about way to say, I have no free conclude dog
I can't answer that. Here's maybe maybe here's a more
fair question to ask. Okay, so look, Tony Romo is
pointing out, um, you know what they were gonna do
based upon the coverage we had Charlie Weiss on yesterday,
and what he said was, look, any veteran quarterback and
sit up there and do what Tony Romo can do
can do. Maybe the difference is that Tom Brady can

(23:44):
process it almost every time at the line of scrimmage,
know exactly where the ball is supposed to go with
how to do it. Why couldn't the chiefs Why couldn't
the chiefs see what was coming when all of these
educated offensive people seem to be able to see what
was coming and where it was going. See what what
do you mean to see what was coming? Well, I
mean like Romo was sitting there going like, all right,

(24:05):
Gronks out wide, that they're all Gronk and then he's
you know, I mean because because I first of all,
and no knock on you. I mean, I think that
everybody knows what the other team is gonna do. What
he was saying wasn't anything that was abnormal. The Patriots
put Gronk outside a lot. They've done that for years

(24:25):
and years. Um, you know, the Chiefs felt they have
Eric Berry. You know, we don't know if he's still
hurt bout Eric Berry is healthy. Eric Berry is a
top three safety in the league. You know, the Chiefs
have matched up Eric Berry to Gronk many times before.
So they didn't lose the game because they were outschemed.
I mean, you go look, you look down the stretch.

(24:45):
There are a man to man defense. So in that
final drive and overtime, they played to man coverage with
seven defensive backs on the field. That's what they play
and and you know one of them there was confusion.
That was the first one on third and ten, uh
in coverage. The set the second and third were just
good throws against good coverage. I mean, that's what the
Chiefs played. This wasn't this wasn't something that the Patriots

(25:07):
did that. People are like, oh my god, the Patriots
are actually gonna put Rob Gronkowski outside. They've done that
a thousand times. Um, but I guess, I guess you.
Bob Sutton gets fired yesterday, and I guess my My
question is you watch the tape. Was Bob Sutton responsible
for Tom Brady being able to score when he had
to score or is that just Brady being better than

(25:30):
than the defense? Well, when when when you win against
man coverage? Everybody plays man coverage in the NFL, So
when you win against man coverage, and I'm just being honest, here,
are you ripping the coach? I mean, you know, this
is what the Chiefs do. They play man. Every year.
People talk about how you can't play zone against Tom

(25:51):
Brady because they'll let you up. Okay, so they play
man and he eats And so they play man, which,
by the way, is their modus opper on day and
they've played it all the year. And granted they did
not have a great defense. They don't have great people,
by the way, particularly in the back end. So they
played man. That's what they do. And Brady made some
some big throws. You know, who else are you gonna

(26:12):
put on? Grounk. I mean it's easy to say after plays,
well you should double him well because they don't have
great people. They probably don't feel comfortable doing those kinds
of things because you know, when you do one thing,
you give up something else, as you well know. So
it's like I said, this stuff is easy after the fact. Yeah, no, no,
no doubt. Great Costell joining us on the Doug Gotlip

(26:32):
Show on Fox Sports Radio. UM, I mentioned how long
you've been doing this? And you know? And I mentioned
because look, you watched all of the best. And I
came into this year, came into the season thinking I
never see anybody who checks every box like Aaron Rodgers.
Plus he's won the big games, He's lifted up teams

(26:52):
that weren't as good, and thinking that Aaron Rodgers the
best I've ever seen play quarterback. But I watched Brady
and I realized he wasn't. He wasn't perfect Sunday right,
he threw two picks and could have thrown a third,
and and really all to the two picks that happened
were really more his fault than anybody else's yet at
forty one years old, he's been able to get to
the Super Bowl nine times. You watched everybody play all

(27:17):
of the best of modern era of football. Is he
based upon your immense amount of knowledge the best you've
seen play the position? From a consistency standpoint, I think
it's it's absolutely remarkable. I mean, that's ultimately that's what separates.
We can talk about individual talents, we can talk about
players that throw it better, we can talk about players

(27:37):
that move better. Um, you know, I think his brilliance
before the snap of the ball is something that's not
talked about very much. I think his understanding of the game.
I think he throws the ball better than people think.
He always has. His ball has always cut through the
wind to New England, and I think his accuracy over
the years has been truly remarkable. And just his consistency

(27:57):
of execution play after play after play after play, to me,
that's truly remarkable. Greg Gosal joining us on the Doug
Gotlib Show on Fox Sport Trading. We're still a week
and a half away, but this is the type of
thing that I'm sure Bill Belichick waits for and you
wait for. Is all right, you got the Rams. They're
high powered, kind of unique style where they they look

(28:19):
the same every play and they run all different variations
of kind of the same. Look, what do you think
Bill Belichick is gonna concoct if he if he was
able to put his worst corner and then safety, you know,
covering the fastest guy in the NFL, what does he
do against the Rams? What's what you think you're asking
me to be Bill Belichick. Yes, that's a lot of pressure, Doug.

(28:40):
I'm breaking out in a sweat here um. You know,
that's a hard thing for me to know. I will
say this, the Rams have certain things that they do
that they do all the time. Okay, they're not one
of those teams that is as multiple as people probably think.
They don't. There's not a ton of formation variation, there's
not a ton of personnel variation. They're run game is

(29:01):
a couple of plays. Although I think they're going to
do a few more things in the Super Bowl just
because I think they will and they need to. But
they're not one of those teams that does a ton
of stuff. So the biggest thing I think he's going
to have to address, and he will two things the
run game, and and that's based on defensive fronts and
leverage and setting the edge and those kinds of things,

(29:23):
and the past game versus all those what we call
minus splits. Whether wide receivers line up close to the formation,
that's a Rams staple. It's often hard to play press
man against that. So you have to have an answer
for that. So he'll have something that he believes strongly in.
Whether it works, I guess time will tell. Don't forget,
you know, we always just assume Belichick is going to

(29:44):
be great. Last year's defense gave up forty one points
in the Super Bowl yep, yep, and and yet remarkably,
even with you know, even with special teams errors, they
still had the ball down five a chance to win it.
And actually was Tom Brady who who? So yeah. So,
I mean, they've been Super Bowls where they've given up points,
even when they came back and beat Seattle once when

(30:05):
the pick was thrown by Russell Wilson. You know, Seattle
scored a good number of points. So I mean, you've
never been Super Bowls where the opponent against the Patriots
has scored points. Awesome stuff. Greg, can't wait to hear
your breakdown of the Super Bowl. We really appreciate you
joining us and and giving us what really happened last
Sunday in both games. Thanks for joining us on Fox

Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. I told you yesterday no
Berry Bonds, no Roger Clemens. No, they don't belong in
the Hall of Fame. And no, absolutely positively not just
Alex Rodriguez belonging in the Hall of Fame. Don't care
if it works for Fox. I love his baseball knowledge,

(32:39):
but he's he is not not He's not been rumored too,
He's not in court documents. He was twice twice suspended
in by Major League Baseball twice two times over suspend
my Major League Baseball for p d u s. So no, no,
not so much. Sorry, you gave up that route, you
gave up, you gave up the right by being suspended twice. Frankly,

(33:03):
once was enough, but twice as like really really. But
here's the thing, Marion Rivera is the first ever unanimous,
unanimous UH selection into the Baseball Hall of Fame that
was announced shortly after the show yesterday. And you see
baseball writers and just regular columnists and radio hosts talk

(33:24):
about the odd how how how big idiots the baseball
writers have been through the years, not having Willie Mays
and and Kid Griffe Jr. And others as unanimous as
unanimous inductees into the Hall of Fame, and and somehow
Mayana Rivera getting in only points that out that maybe

(33:45):
the most narrow minded, moronic way of looking at it
I've ever because they had a screwy deal for fifty
years where they wouldn't put anyone in as a unanimous selection. Somehow,
Marianna Rivera, what you should be exalting is they finally

(34:06):
got it right, and they had the right guy to
get it right with right, Like look, Mario Rivera, and
he wasn't perfect by the way Arizona Diamondbacks. He he
blew us, he blew the big save, young young Kim
blew even more saves. But his team, his team still
won the World Series. But but he blew it right,

(34:27):
He blew it against the Boston Red Sox and never
forget they had a three games to none lead and
Dave Roberts came in and stole second base and they
gave up a single and the game was and the
game changed, in the series changed, and like look, he
wasn't perfect, But for the most pressure pack position in
the sport, in the most pressure back city in the country,

(34:50):
maybe in the sports universe, he consistently delivered more often
than not, and did it with one pitch. And oh yeah,
by the way, was a general men who did it
in the in the height of the steroid era, surrounded
by steroid taking players, and he was never rumored too,
nor did anybody actually believed that he participated in performance

(35:10):
dancing drugs. When I'm told by people who test positive
everybody was doing it, Mario Verry wasn't doing it. So
he did it clean when others did it dirty. He
won when it counted in the toughest city to win in,
and he did it with class and dignity. He's perfect.
And because Willie Mays, like thirty years ago, should have

(35:31):
got in unanimously, somehow, this makes it no. What you
should say is like, hey, baseball finally got it right,
and they finally got it right. That's all you should say. Hey,
baseball is figured out. It's the twenty one century. Maybe
some guys are worthy of getting in as you unanimous selection,

(35:53):
And the same thing will happen with Derek Jeter. What's
better the Pro Bowl or major ly Baseball's All Star Game?

I mean as long as video doesn't exist up the

does exist, I'm told which will be used forever used

You local Honda dealer today, Dan Buyer? What is the game?
The game? Doug is all right, Doug, it's a big
weekend in sports. You want to know why NHL All
Star Game and the Pro Bowl. I want you to
rank the top three All Star games for American pro sports.
Which all Star games do you enjoy the most. All Right,

(38:23):
I'm gonna be honest here, I haven't watched an All
Star game in maybe twenty years. Um was an awful question. No,
I'm just I'm just I'm just saying, like, I don't know,
you're know how your anti movie guy. Instead of top three,
let's do top zero. You know you're anti your anti
movie guy. Right, I'm kind of anti I'll star game guy.

(38:46):
But but here's what I'll say I'll do. Uh Number
one is the oh, I'll do NBA All Star Game
because I still think the Dunk Contest has some key
cash A and it does have some I guess n
B A and Major League Baseball second, and uh Pro
Bowl three. I agree with you. I actually enjoyed. I
enjoyed the NBA. The NBA Al Star Game could actually

(39:09):
be the best game because they could play hard and
not it's the least likely to actually hurt yourself, right
like where the Pro Bowl like you can't actually play
the sport the real way because too many dudes are
falling out. And in Major League Baseball you can't have
the star pitchers waste their arms on a on a
on a meaningless game. But there's a lot of history
and lure. Uh. The problem is that like Major League

(39:30):
Baseball's Oustar Game was invented before we had interleague play,
So you know, we've seen these guys in the same field.
But I'm gonna go NBA MLB Pro Bowl. Okay, Baseball
Hall of Fame class of nineteen has been set. Tell
me the top three players that deserved enshrineman into the Hall.
Four we're enshrined yesterday or at least got the announcement.
They will be Mariano Rivera, Roy Halliday, Edgar Martinez, and

(39:53):
Mike Mussina with Roger Clemens Harry. Mike Mussina's the weird
one because he looks like because look like he's like
Dylan McDermott. Is that the guy's name. He looks like,
he looks like an actor. There's an actor that Mike
Massina looks like. Anyway, Um, I missed the Mike. I
missed when Moose became a Hall of Famer. When did
when did that happen? I don't know? Anyway, what are

(40:15):
you gonna ask the three guys that you most deserved
it the most? The four gone in, but maybe not
all of them. Deserved it, and you have Clemen's bonds
shilling and Larry Walker on the outside looking in. I
am not a I'm not a steroid guy. I don't
believe any of those guys blowing in. I don't know
what your stances on it. Um Mayan riverat number one. Uh,
Roy Holliday was a two time Siing Award winner. I'm

(40:35):
gonna go Roy Holliday number two. Um, and I guess Edgar.
I mean he was, but I mean never played in
the field. So it's a hard one. I think it's
a two and then a cliff to be completely candidate
here alright. Top three current golfers that you'd pay to see.
Of course, Tiger and Phil you had to pay to
see that in November. Top three players right now that
you would pay to watch play golf? Tiger? Um, can

(41:00):
I pay Tiger three times an sit next to me?
I do. I'd love to be on the back for
Hunter Mayhan and then I need a third one. Oh
um Um C t Pan No, att Pan, Well he
we played with them today. We're about to bring hardware.
I don't have to I want to pay to play
with ct Pan said the C Pan. Would would you say,

(41:21):
does he need to does he need me to work
with him on the three wood? Because clearly I'm good
with the three wood up the te um I ct
pan if you ever want a pro am? He said, no,
I go, Today's your lucky day and he was he
was had kidding and he may end up. Uh, I
probably say Rory. I like Rory, Yeah, honestly, Tiger Rory Speed. Alright,

(41:45):
Trigary Speed. Finally, top three shots you hit today? What
shots you most proud of from playing the program? I
made a downhill put that one that that got us
a birdie on the pole? That was that was like
on your drive on four was really good? Yes, yes,
I thought, yes, Um, I don't have I'm not that

(42:05):
golf guy. You know there's a downhill lie on seventeen
that I hit, did you know? Um? I like all
the ones that I hit the golf ball. I liked
all the ones where I missed the golf ball I
did not like. Tiger Woods continues to come back at

your microphone on I believe So, okay, here's just a
question for you. Um, how many golf tournaments did Tiger

(43:08):
Woods win last year? When I believe the answer to
that would be one. No, it couldn't be possible. It
could be possible that he won one golf tournament, could it.
I I'm actually impressed, super impressed that you nailed that one.
Although I shouldn't be. It's true, right, it's almost like
I'm a sports radio producer. No, I know, but a
lot of people would get would would get caught up
in it, like Tiger Woods only one one golf tournament

(43:32):
and it was not a major. It was not a major.
Although he was in he was he was in contention
at a couple of different majors last year, but Isn't
it remarkable what a difference a year makes. Last year,
around this time, Tiger Woods teed off in front of us,
two groups in front of us at the at the
program here at the Farmer's Insurance Open, and there was

(43:53):
hope that Tiger could be competitive. A year later, there's
expectations that Tiger Woods will win a major. Now. Look,
I have long been a stockholder in Tiger Woods, Inc.
I've often said this, you can't be too drunk to fish,
and you can't be too old to play golf. You
just can't. And this idea that because he's now in

(44:16):
his forties, he won't compete. We've seen Jack win a
major in his forties. And I do know that Tiger
Woods created this group of young golfers kind of in
his image and with his level of fitness. And so
there are way more young players to go through than
Jack had to go through when he's forty. And the technology,
instead of evening the playing field for older players, you

(44:37):
can give that same technology to younger guys and they
hit an absolute mile and they obviously had the skill
to dial it in. That said, there's something to the
there's this continuum in sports, right You have athletic ability
and athletic acumen, and you know, right in the prime
of your career you have both firing on all cylinders.

(44:58):
You have enough knowledge of the sport of time and
score in this case, you know course and conditions and
how to manage your your your temperament over a four
day period. You know you've been through it enough. And
now sometimes there's some battle wounds, some battle scars that
cause some yips and will cost you a tournament or
a bad bounce here or there, but you get towards

(45:20):
the end and while the athletic ability might not be there,
the course knowledge, the acumen we just saw from Tom Brady,
Like Tom Brady is not He's never been fast, but
he's definitely not as fast at forty one as he
was at thirty one. His arm strength isn't as good
now as it used to be. But his knowledge of
of defense is his recognition of what he sees and

(45:43):
what to do with it is off the charts. Now, look,
it's gonna reach the point, it's gonna reach Peyton Manning level.
Al Right. Pet Manning was football genius at the end,
but he couldn't throw a football. There's gonna be a
point where Tiger Woods physically can't keep up on Many
of these golf corps say because he won't, but he's
not at that point yet. And just like we're seeing

(46:04):
in all professional sports, whether it's Lebron James being able
to extend his career and extend his dominance maybe longer
or more seasons than than a Michael Jordan's. Obviously it's different.
He came out of high school and he didn't take
the sabbatical for baseball. But still the the the your
can you can play into your mid thirties. You have
to change your game, but you can do it. But

(46:24):
you're never too old do You never do old play golf?
You never too drunk to fish. But the expectations are
just different, just different. And it's because he won one tournament. Yes,
it's because he competed at major's because he won one tournament,
and it's changed the entire sport, right, think about it,

(46:45):
like would you? Ever? Then I can't wait till golf
because Tiger Woods fit the last major and they've changed
the major's obviously this year with the p G A
is earlier p G I believe is in May this year,
but Tiger woods Man to him, I can't wait till
I see golf again. That's amazing. And of course we'll
see him here at the Farmers Insurance Open speaking of golf.

(47:06):
A friend of the show, uh, and a guy who
you should follow him on social media because he's always
he's super into sports and into the conversation. Hunter. Mayhean
joining us? He'll play here at at the at the
f I O nineteen. How much difference do you think
the sport feels with Tiger now back in the discussion? Well,
it's extremely different, right, I mean he's uh, he's a

(47:29):
unicorn in sports. I mean he he's changed golf dramatically.
When he came on the scene, golf was, golf was
in a good place. It was it was going well.
But he brought a whole new crowd. He brought a
whole new economy to the sport. And uh, he was
doing things on the course with his fist pumps and
his reactions as his emotions that we've never seen. And
then he was having these massive results that we've never seen,

(47:49):
winning majors and tournaments in these huge bunches that we've
never seen. I'll never forget that Curtis strange interview he had,
and Curtis was like trying to bring him down, saying,
Tiger top ten is good. You know, making the cut
some weeks, that's fine, And Tiger was like, well, no,
my standard. I want to win every single week. He
brought that attitude to the PGA Tour and you see
it now with a lot of these young guys that
he's competing with. Yeah, it's it's really it's really quite remarkable.

(48:13):
Do our expectations are expectations too high? Considering his age
and the battle wounds that that he suffered, it could be.
I mean if you expect him to be contending in
every single major and he's gonna finish you know, twelve
at worst than every single event, Yeah, they're probably a
little too high. But it was a great season last year.
I don't think you. I know, he's only one once,

(48:35):
but his ball striking stats were absolutely phenomenal. I mean,
he returned to being a top five ball striker on tour,
which to be great and to be continually great every
single week, you have to do that. You have to
be a great ball striker. I know people think it's
just about putting, but if you don't hate it good,
You're just not gonna contend on here for a weekend
and week out. Um. I thought that was an incredible sign.
I thought his his opportunities and majors was really really impressive.

(48:58):
And I thought winning the championship the way he did
on a golf course that is very challenging and really
not suited for him. He didn't have a ton of
success there. I mean, if he wanted someone else somewhere else,
like Memora or the Farmers, you would be like, well,
that makes sense. He won their eight times. So I
thought it was really impressive. Last year. No, I I
did too, Um Okay, So when golfers talked about Tiger,
I've always been told, hey, greatest iron player in golf

(49:21):
is that is that? Okay? So greatest iron player and
he and and he fixed the chipping yips and he
had some of the putting yips as well, Like that
was a lot. Now what about some of the things
that have been overrated? Was like he hasn't been good
with the driver for a long time. What about his
driving with his his three would and with his driver, Like,
how was he actually hitting the ball last year? I

(49:42):
thought it was it was At times it was good
enough and other times it was it was really good.
His speed is really incredible. For all the surgeries and
everything he kind of went through, he didn't really know
what kind of speed he was gonna have, but he
had a ton of power. Uh. Like I said, his
putting kind of let him down last year. I think
he went two or three times if if he just
puts average. So that was a little hard. How hard

(50:04):
is that to fix? It's not hard. I mean, it's
he's a great potter, I don't. I mean, he's made
so many huge puts in his career. Um, it's not
it's not hard to fix. Sometimes it's just speed. You
just hit it six inches too hard and you're just
a little bit too soft some weeks, Um it was crazy.
It wasn't great last year. I think it will be
much better this year. And if he keeps a driver
on the golf course, I think he's gonna win multiple times.

(50:26):
You know. It's it's funny we here what we talk
golf now for I don't know what is this to
eight minutes? We haven't mentioned Brooks cap what a couple
of majors last year? Right? And and Brooks does to
a golf course what Tiger used to do to a
golf course, Like he's playing a different sport because because
he's he's so ridiculous off the team. Him and dust
and are very similar in how they play, very strong,

(50:47):
very powerful. They can really overpower our golf course. And
when they both drive it well, it is a huge
competitive advantage when you're twenty three yards ahead of everybody, um,
you know, and analytically and statistically, when you're that far
in front you're hitting nine irons and whiges when guys
are hitting seven six arns. I mean, it's just huge
over a length of four days. So he's a very
powerful player. He's not afraid of big moments, um, so

(51:09):
he's never really out of any event that he competes in. Okay,
So what I've always one of the reasons I've never
sold sold my tech Tiger woodstock is after the deal
with Ellen where he had the car accident and somehow
the window got bashed out whatever. Right, he finished fourth
at Augusta. Right that very next time he played Augusta,
he finished fourth. Body was a mess, Mine was a mess.

(51:31):
Still finished fourth at Augusta, which just shows me, like, dude,
he could play that thing with a blindfold and finished
somewhere in the top ten. And if he's dialed in
like he's gonna win at least one more time there.
I just feel like it's a what about the other majors?
What what sets up generally best for him? Oh? I
think Augusta for sure, obviously right. Um, but if he's

(51:53):
hitting his irons well and he's doing everything that we
think that he'll do. This year the British Open, he
loves to play there. He gets so excit I had
to play, Uh that style of golf being being creative. Um.
The only problem there is the greens are a little slow,
and he does not like slow greens. A lot of
we don't really necessarily love that. It's so different what
we normally play every single week. Um, but I would say, um,

(52:16):
I would say that, But you gotta remember PJ. This
year is at Bethpage and he is one there. He's been,
he's been right there. I think that's a great golf
course for him. So like crazy long, it is long,
but you still got to hit it straight. And like
I said, if you hit your irons well, you can
play any golf course. And I think he can three

(52:36):
with it. I think the way he hits US three
with as long as he hits it, he can dissect
the golf course is what and that it's for as
long as he is. You see him in major he
just kind of dissects them fairway green, two, put, one put.
I'm gonna take advantage of the par fives. He's really
analytical and how he plays majors because he knows through
the length of four days, if I just keep putting
the ball in play, I want to be there on Sunday,

(52:58):
and then the opens at at Pebble, right, yeah, I
think so, yeah, yeah. And that's and he say he
doesn't like that he's had he's had a couple of
good days of pebble. Yeah. And when pebble, especially when
you play pebble in the summer, it is so different
than the Pebble Beach program earlier. There it's completely different.
How so, just so much firmer and faster. The greens
are gonna be. I mean, I don't say that twice
as fast, that's ridicuous, but they're gonna be much much faster.

(53:18):
He just knows how to play that place. He can
just kind of put it from place to place. Um,
and just and just kind of pick his spots and
just be a really aggressive on the part fives and
take control of those. But you know some places you
just step on the tea and you're just like I
enjoy playing here. I can see every shot that I
need to hit. Okay, there's there's three other guys I
want to ask you about. You mentioned dissecting a golf
course fairways and greens. Wasn't that supposed to be Jordan's speed? Okay? Um,

(53:43):
where where is Jordan's speed in this discussion? I don't
know it was. It was a strange. It was oddly
down year for him last year. Um. He's his greatest
strength to me is his mental toughness. I just I mean,
he just battles and battles that continually battles out there. Um.
His ball striking was always great and it just kind
of left him for some reason. I'm not sure why.

(54:03):
But nothing surprises me with him, and is is incredible great.
And when he gets that putter going, I think that
kind of feels like it kind of feels the rest
of his game. Um, okay, so we mentioned those two.
What about what about Rory? Rory obviously is another guy
that we thought, all right, he's gonna dominate golf. Well,
I think it just shows you how tough golf is.
And I know we see these guys at an early

(54:24):
age and we're like, oh my gosh, they're gonna be
unbelievable for twenty years. They're gonna do exactly what Tiger did.
And it just shows you what Tigger did was so
incredible and it was so you know, it was magical,
and it was like you think, oh, everyone's gonna do this,
and it's just that the game is just too hard
for that. Rory's when he gets his driver going, it
just looks like he walks different and he just is
so confident because he knows that's such a great weapon

(54:44):
for him. Um, you know, his putting kind of leaves
him randomly and it and it just you just never
know when it's gonna come back. But he's a guy
you never really want to count out a terment, especially
a tournament like this where I think we're driving and
hitting the ball down the middle of fairway with his
length could be such an advantage. Hunter Mayhan are Gay
some the Doug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio
and then there's and then there's Ricky. Right two years ago,

(55:07):
right was one the Players Championship, Like, all right, he's
won a big one. All right, Ricky's gonna do it.
He has the fandom, he has the game, and we've
seen him in obviously. I know it's not a major,
but it's kind of the fifth major. Does does Ricky?
Is it feel like a breakthrough or is there's there's
something missing there? It's funny somebody on Twitter hit me up.

(55:30):
Someone we know, tell you and he's like, I'm not
sure about Ricky. What do you think? What do you think?
You know? Does he have the focus? Is he too
into other things and his clothes and you know? And
I said, listen, he is so into golf, and I
think he feels it's his time. I think this year
is going to be a great year for him. I
think his game is is. It seems like just keeps

(55:51):
getting better and better and better every single year. He
keeps sending himself in in the big positions. Out of
gust of last year, I mean, it was boy, he
came on like a freight train near the end there.
He's not afraid of any moment. It's just it's just
hard to win those tournaments that we specifically focus on.
It's just not easy to get your game oh perfect
at the right time. People talk about, you know, raising
at the right time and being your very very best.

(56:12):
That's hard to do. We all want to do, but
it's very difficult to do. But he's he's you know,
his game is shaping up to be pretty good. And
I wouldn't be surprised if he wins, you know, three
or four tournaments this year. Most importantly, most importantly, when
will I be on your back? Well, most importantly who
I don't know. I have to talk to Dan about
what happened today, but I gotta say. I gotta say,
it's great to have you on the Tom Brady is

(56:33):
the Goat fan Club. But we were so excited to
have you. I didn't I didn't think it would ever happened.
They took nine trips to the Super Bowl. It's great
to have you calling is I know, calling Coward is
super you know, he's the president of the Tom Bradie
Fan Club. So it's great to have you. We're so excited.
I mean, listen between Brady and I'm hosting with calherd
uh for for Calherd on Friday. So I know I
have to lead with Brady or Lebron or both and

(56:56):
then have to say something negative about Aaron Rodgers through
the same time. And Russell westbrook you gotta you gotta
smear him a little bit or want to be a
normal day. I do actually agree Russell Westbrooks jumper is broken,
although he made ten on of toelve free throwers, made
some threes last is pretty good. I've been. He's been
the surprise of the season for me and Paul George
told told us, hey, second year around Oklahoma City, I'm
gonna be more comfortable anyway. Best of luck this weekend.

(57:19):
Really appreciate you're talking. By any time you're in l A.

Fox Sports Radio. Uh. You see him on First Things
First every morning on Fox Sports One. He also has
his own radio show as well. He's the one and

(01:00:10):
only Nick Right. He's also a native of Kansas City.
How you doing, Nick, what's up? Good to talk to
my friend? Um? Was was there? Was there? Ever? Was
there a sense of inevitability or did you think we
got this? We're good, we're good? In watching the Kansas
City Chiefs, well, I mean, I don't. I don't know
if I wanted. There wasn't a sense of inevitability until

(01:00:34):
in overtime when the Patriots got the first and goal
inside the ten. Then I thought it was pretty much over.
But as long as and I think Mahomes demonstrated this,
there was time on the clock. No matter what the
Pats did, I thought, unless they scored with zero second remaining,
that the Chiefs are gonna have a chance. And I
mean the Patriots went up with thirty nine seconds left

(01:00:56):
and Patrick Mahomes got the Chiefs in field goal range
in twenty ree second. So no, there wasn't a sense
of inevitability, and Kansas City obviously had plenty of opportunities
to win that game. I'm not gonna say they should
have won it, but I certainly can say they could
have won it. They just didn't win it. You and
I have gone back and forth about Jordan and Lebron
in terms of being the goat. Uh, I've always been

(01:01:19):
in Aaron Rodgers guy. And by the way, nobody is
after Nick. Right. He's calling us from the streets of
New York City, So I apologize, hold on, just get
you give me one second, and the police be league,
they might be after me. I'm not listen. Hold on,
do do me a favorite? Do me a favorite? This
is this is the difference in East and West coast, right,
So you've got sirens going on, You're in the streets
of New York. What's the weather like, I'd say a

(01:01:40):
brisk okay, that's not bad. Snow on the ground, ice
and the ground. Son, what's going on? We're supposed to
get a blizzard this weekend and it never came to
Adam snowed and it's really only snowed maybe once this season.
But I did evade those cops, so we're good. Now,
all right, good, He's got to get away from the
cops speed. He's Nick right to joining us. The Doug
gli Show. We're a live here Tory Pines at the

(01:02:01):
Farmers Insurance Open. It is roughly sixty four A little
bit breezy off off the coast. I mean a little
bit breezy. I gotta jacket on um. But there's not
a there's not a cloud in the sky, and I'm
watching pro golfers work on their puts, So there's a
little bit of difference here. There are police officers, but
they're not chasing anybody anyway. Sorry, that was that was
a not so humble brag. Okay, So, so you and

(01:02:24):
I have gone back and forth about Lebron and Jordan's
where are you in the Brady greatest Quarterback of all Time? Discussion.
I don't think it's a debate like now. I do
not think this past Sunday was one of his better games.
I don't even for the first fifty nine minutes it
was a bad game by him, and then the moment
that d for play happened, the third interception gets called off.

(01:02:47):
He's really spectacular from that moment forward. But if he's
lapped the field like it can't just be about raw talent.
It's got to be about he has He's an eye
out of ten in every category that we used to
define greatness. Longevity, he's a tin out of tin. Championship pedigree,

(01:03:08):
he's a tin out of ten. Statistical greatness, he's a
nine and a half out of ten. Like there, there's
no other quarterback that comes close. Even if you s Rogers,
if you want to say Rogers has more ability, fine,
but Rogers right now is a six out of ten
on longevity and a five out of ten on championship pedigree.
Like that, It's not that, it's not even close. The

(01:03:32):
discussion is second, third, and fourth. Yeah, I have I've
changed my vote, which I'm allowed to do because it
is my vote, and that's the way it works. I
I likened it to Hoosier's when I had new information,
when Jimmy chitwould walk in and said, you know, I
played coach days, I play, I coach goes, I go.
I'm like, all right, well, then I'm changing my vote.
It's the exact same thing. Uh, when when I when

(01:03:54):
I look at at Tom Brady now that I have
new information, and you're right, he did not play one
of his ten best games, but at forty one years
old to play as well as he did against what
I think is an outstanding pass rush. I know the
defense statistically isn't great in a ridiculous home field advantage. Um,
I think, you know, we do lose sight of the
fact that I do give him the benefit of the
doubt because he's forty one more than anything else. Well, yeah,

(01:04:18):
but I without grading him on an age curve, I don't.
He was not one of the three biggest reasons they
were in the position they were in midway through the
fourth quarter. The the what the defense did to Mahomes
in the first half, the running game throughout the offensive line.
Belichick's game playing all of those things, and he threw

(01:04:41):
three picks, two of which were blatantly his fault, the
last which end would have ended the game for them,
but deforders lined up off sides him. From that moment forward,
he completed five passes. They were all for first downs,
four of them were on third down, three of them
were on third and ten. If he doesn't complete any
of those, I believe they lose the game, and so

(01:05:03):
he deserves enormous credit for that. Let's go to the
other game, uh, between the City of New Orleans and
Saints ownership, I understand. I get it. It was a
it was a blown call, But I do think that
Sean Payton discussing the blown call somehow has avoided the
fact that he should have run the ball on first

(01:05:24):
and second, if not third down as well, and and
greatly decrease the chances of the Rams getting the ball
back with time to go down and kick at least
a field goal. And by the way, because because you
run the football doesn't mean you're not trying to get
a first down and not trying to get a touchdown.
What it does is it decreases the odds greatly of
another team getting the ball and being able to score.

(01:05:45):
Where are you in the Saints re screwed end of story? Camp?
You have this exactly right, that the last few minutes
of this game were a tour the force in indefensible coaching.
Sean Payton kicking a field goal down three at the
half yard line with five minutes left, is, i said
Sean Payton, Sean McVeigh, pardon me, is as bad as

(01:06:08):
it gets. That is that that is really mathematically, I'm
not certain there's anything you can do to put your
team in a worse position short of if you're down eight,
you to score a touchdown as time expires. Trotting out
the extra point like that is awful. But then Sean
Payton tried to one up him. The ted Kin catch

(01:06:30):
should have ended the game. You run it on first,
you run it on second, you run it on third,
because the rams only at two time outs. If you
don't get a first down, you're kicking a chip shop
field goal at a minute and Jared Goff's gotta go
sixty plus yards to get in field goal range with
no timeouts and fifty seconds less. So Sean Payton simply

(01:06:53):
calls a running play on first down. We are not
having this discussion, you know. One of the reasons that
you run instead of past. In addition to the fact
that the clock runs goofy things can happen on past plays,
including missed past interference calls. Now they're usually not that blatant.
But I control your controllables, Doug as. I'm sure your

(01:07:14):
dad would tell his his young players, and I'm sure
you tell the kids you coach. You can't control the rest,
you can control the decisions you make. You know. The
other thing that that that is being kind of glossed
over Breeze is catching some critic criticism for that awful
throw on first down. The throw on third down would
have been interception at intercepting the defensive player plays the ball.

(01:07:35):
I mean like it was he was right there. Uh,
Breeze seems to have fallen off the cliff. People were
predicting Brady would fall off the cliff. It feels like
Breeze fell off the cliff before Brady got there. Breeze
was I think at twenty nine touchdowns, two picks, and
a one seven passer rating through eleven games this year.
Over the last seven games, I apologize I don't have

(01:07:56):
in front of you, but I think it was seven touchdowns,
five interceptions, a passer rating in the low eighties, and
the Saints offense scored fewer scored fourteen or fewer more
times than it scored twenty four or more. They the
Saints offense fell apart at the end of the year
period point blank. Like, I don't know if that's all
on Breeze or what, but the offense, the the the

(01:08:19):
offense was not a strength of the team over the
final third of the season. Um it feels like America
will be rooting for the Rams Um, if the Patriots
win and you're an adviser to Tom Brady, do you
keep riding this thing out or you to go, Hey,
you know what? Full circle started by beating the Rams,
ended by beating the Rams, dropped the microphone, and Enjoyedzell

(01:08:40):
and the kids. Yeah, here's the thing. If he was
gonna do that, wouldn't he had done it after the
Falcons come back. I mean, I think you can make
a strong argument for it. He has somehow avoided any
major injury aside from the A c L. I'm sure
he and his family are aware of the long term
impacts on your brain. He's got as much money as

(01:09:03):
is anyone could possibly ever make, and given the fact
that he actually doesn't make that much from the Patriots comparatively,
I bet you Tom Brady could cobble together fifteen million
dollars going on the speaking circuit. Like It's not Drew Brees.
Even if they won the Super Bowl, he was definitely
gonna play. He's got thirty million coming to him next year.

(01:09:24):
And Drew Brees somehow has has done some bad money invets,
some bad investments, something to where he was buying diamonds
and they weren't worth what he thought. I think he
needs to catch Brady doesn't need it. Uh. And so
for all those reasons, I would say he should walk,
But he sure doesn't seem like he wants to walk,
Like he says he wants to play until he's forty five.

(01:09:46):
I don't think success is going to drive him from
the game. I think it will only be failure that
would YEA or or or the home. You know I do.
I feel like he's fighting that fight and and maybe
he's already won that fight and he gets to quit
when he us to quit. But or the home. I
think that's why he stayed away from from O T
A S. Anyway, great stuff on first things first, can't

(01:10:07):
wait to talk with you in person of the super Bowl.
Thanks so much for joining us. Absolutely good to talk.
All right, that's the one and only. Nick write falm
on Twitter at get Nick Right, Stuck, Gotlieb Show. We're
badcasting Live and Farmer's Insurance open at Tory Pines in
San Diego. We are farmers. Ryan blom is gonna join
us in a second. He's a dukie. We're gonna talk

(01:10:28):
some zion he's got. He's got a Zion T shirt on.
That's uncomfortable. He's a college he's an eighteen year old
college get that's uncomfortable. Ryan b. Blam will join us
in a second from Farmer's Insurance Open. Let's get to
Dan Buyer. Dan, we just got off the golf course.
He is floating, he is glowing. Giving update. Apparently Jason
Day's group has tied us for the lead. They had

(01:10:51):
one hole to play and uh, yeah, don't trust It
was a very good day for Jason's group, but fortunately
it won't be better for us. But I think we
were tied for first. We were tied for first. They
were likely going to break because they had Their final
is going to be a part five. So probably you
mean like you mean like eighteen that we we eighteen

(01:11:14):
or nine whichever one. No, eighteen we had I had.
I had a birdie put and yeah, I spun one
back in the water, which is actually more fulfilling than
So I didn't say it was a great it's a
great point. That's a great point, as guys, And look,
you actually love golf and you're very good at golf.
I'm I like, I like golf a lot, and I'm

(01:11:35):
you know, and I'm not very good at golf. That
actually looked like a professional golf shot. It hits on
the green and then all of a sudden starts spinning
and it felt like tin cup, right, it did, like
and if you ever you've ever seen like that? Right? Like, man,
just unlucky hit me. When I was standing twenty yards,
I thought the fact that you stabbed your fingers and

(01:11:56):
said give me another ball, like like tin up. I
thought that was a little uncomfortable, you know, give me another.
It was the moment you called your caddie Romeo. I
thought that was did you see me? Bet Robertson, Actually,
have you actually seen did you hold on? Have you actually?
Do you have no idea what I'm even talking about? No,

(01:12:17):
I was actually did you see what I said to
Rodney Harris answer the questions was, I said, I said,
I bet I can hit a seven iron further than you.
And so he hit his and then I hit my
dumb the cart path just like, yeah, there you go.
You only watch golf movies. Yes, that and the Legend
of Beggar Vance. That's all that I've watched. I can't

(01:12:38):
watch golf movies. Yeah, yeah, that's it. So I can't
believe will Smith didn't win the Oscar for that, but um,
I actually have stuff to tell you. Larry FitzGeralds that
was actually a slow burn on will Smith. No, it was,
it was It was a It was a joke on
me because the only reference point that I would have

(01:12:58):
would be a golf movie with Wilson it and got it,
Damon got it? And uh. And so if I say
do you like apples, let's say how about them apples? Right,
something like that? Do you like apples? If I say
do you like apples? I got a number? How do
you like them apples? Idea? That's from none. It's amazing.

(01:13:18):
Ryan Blom sitting here. Was was it on Friends? Was
it on Friends? Did Chandler say it to Joey that
I didn't see his wife Lisa here? She's she's coming
out of her skin. She's like you, did Arthur Spooner
say it to Doug It's King of Queen's Larry Fitzgerald's back.
P J. Williams of the Saints arrested for d u
y in New Orleans. Second time he's been arrested to times.

(01:13:42):
I don't know if that goes on Pro Football Reference
or not. Uh No, Kyrie Irving tonight for the Celtics
against the Calves sick with the flu. Got it by
watching Calves game film. Uh, we're all in the mood today.
Uh MAVs forward Dirk Novitsky, according to the New York Times,
is going to compete in the three point shootout. We'll
get a wheel him out there. He's not gonna shoot

(01:14:06):
in any other ball rack. He's only gonna shoot. They're
just gonna send all the ball racks to him. Like
watching Dirk Navisky move is painful. They're given him eight
minutes to make it a wrong. We're gonna be back
at ten seconds to the dug Got Leave show. The
first a word from farmers. Think accidentally flooding a living
room to a dog taking a joy ride. We've covered it.

(01:14:26):
Talk to farmers, we know a thing or two because
we've seen a thing or two. We are farmers under
written my Farmers truck Fire Insurance, Exchange and affiliates products
not available in every state. That was this entertaining of
five minutes as I can remember on this show. We
need to do that more often. I guess we need
to have Dan Buyer join us from a golf tournament
more more often speaking of golter and Ryan blom joins us.

(01:14:48):
Of course professional golfer. You'll see him at the Farmer's
Insurance Open hashtag f I oh nineteen. If you want
to follow the tournament, be a part of the discussion. Um,
we got a lot to get to. You're a huge
avid Duke fan as as a Duke Alum, do you
watch your boys last night? Of course I did, okay,
but you did not receive the fanfare in watching from
your hotel room that jay Z did. Jay Z, there

(01:15:09):
was he just recruiting Zion as that was going on.
He's recruiting our j Barrett, give us some insight. You're
not allowed to recruit college players yet, are you? Yeah?
I have. You're an agent. You're absolutely allowed to sit
there and just sit there and recruiting jay Z. It
was just a spectator, right, he was. He was just
he was just a spectator. I I think they're I
still think I actually think they're in great shape, that
they're gonna learn to play without Trey Jones, assuming Trey

(01:15:30):
Jones comes back healthy. Yeah, I think it'll be back
sooner than people realize. Um, probably in the next week.
I'm assuming, um, maybe Saint John's game. Get ready for
seeing Virginia again in a couple of weeks. Yeah, that
would be big. The Virginia game was was intense and
it was amazing. They're able to win that game, but
without them of course, you know they didn't have Cam
Reddish earlier in that week when they lost to Syracuse.

(01:15:52):
You get him back, you get him back from the
flu um. I've actually this is a crazy thing. I'm
usually the Debbie Downer. I've been more impressed Zion than
I thought I would be. Like I I thought I
didn't think he was YouTube sensation, but I thought there
were a little bit a few more holes, and I
was concerned whether or not he would play as hard
as consistently considering last year's group a freshman, the Marvin

(01:16:13):
Bagley's at times just offered no sort of resistance defensively.
I think the way this this group has come together
as a group and been unified together has been really
impressive as freshman. I mean, especially we're in we're in January, right,
I mean, the guys shot a hundred percent in the
first half last last night in front of jay Z,
and that's impressive. Right. I mean if you can do

(01:16:33):
it in front of jay Z when he's sent ten
feet away, that's pretty good. Uh Ty, have you ever
ever played with Tiger? I'm not played with Tiger? No,
not yet. I want to. Heck, yeah I do. Who
is Sunday? Yeah, Sunday late? Okay? But what would that?
What would that be? Like? Everybody says they want that.
It's like everybody says, I want we want Bama. Everybody
says we want to. Of course you get that. Who's

(01:16:55):
the best guy you've ever played with? I played with
Phil here at Tori two years ago. What's like it
was a circus? It was a circus. And I actually
played behind Tiger in d C last year on Sunday
where he's wearing his red and black. And note that
I was playing behind him. I got I was starting
the day ahead of him. Yes, yeah, when when it
when it ended up where you up? Yeah, the Red prevailed?

(01:17:17):
Uh and and the Duke Blue was sitting back there
watching them. Um, but that was that was an interesting
playing behind him. It's much better to play behind than
in front because you have people, you know, the crowd
running up to you, to your group and after Tiger
finishes and they don't really care about but they trample
on stuff. They trample on stuff. I mean it's just
in terms of like, you know, motion and noise and
stuff like that. Um, but you know, you just have

(01:17:40):
to kind of take your time and back away. Um.
We played with CT earlier today and I was great, dude, right,
And I was like, hey, do you do the same
thing every round? He's like, yes, I eat the same
time everything I do. I do the exact same thing. Okay,
but now are you the same way? I'm pretty close,
pretty close, So I'm I've become a little more laid

(01:18:01):
back as my My wife is kind of jerked that
out of me a little bit. Um kind of said, hey,
we might want on that one a reef. Can we
get a reef that did not come out? Come out again?
We might want to rephrase a little bit. I did

(01:18:23):
graduate from Duke. Yes, blow, I'm joining us back now. Yes, Yes,
we got it, We got it, got it. It's like
we got it. Um. I mentioned that because except when
you're playing with Phil, did you find yourself? Did you
find yourself? Like? Oh hell, I forgot to have my
power bar, I forgot to do the thing I always

(01:18:44):
do because you get caught up in this moment of
trying to trying to still play and interact and be
who you are. If I was just forgetting to eat
my power bar, that would have been a good thing.
I was forgetting to breathe. The first four or five
holes playing with Phil, I was like four over through six,
I was playing awful. I end up coming back and
playing pretty well that day. But but yeah, it's I

(01:19:06):
definitely had was a little bit of a deer in
headlights and just kind of caught myself watching him rather
than trying to play my own game. Yeah, it's interesting
because how many times do we hear golfers when Tiger
was down say like, you know, it's not the same
as it used to be, and like now there's a
sense that he's back, and some of those same guys,
you know, you you look at some of the majors

(01:19:26):
he was in contention with last year, in contention in
last year, and and they looked a little bit different
than maybe they thought they would look during the Tiger effect,
and he talked about the Tour Championship last year that
he won, um just the energy that was there, especially
on eighteen, how that was just a different type of
energy and um, that's what he He doesn't move the needle,

(01:19:48):
he is the needle and that energy that he's able
to provide out here for us. Honestly, it's just it's
cool to be a part of. And I hope he's
out here and healthy a very long time. Obviously you're
not built like him. Uh you're obviously what do you mean? Yeah,
I mean obviously you're not built like like like like
like Tiger Woods. And I don't want to get into
your wife and and those radio people don't know what

(01:20:12):
Ryan Blond joins on the Doug Gottlieb Show. But what
is the from from a guy who's come up watching
him and now as a pro competing against him. What
what can you take away? Like I I'm I was
always taught. My dad was a basketball coach. Like you
can always learn from other like take You're not gonna
ever be Jordan, but you can learn this one thing
from Jordan. You're not ever gonna be this guy, but

(01:20:32):
you can You're not ever gonna be Tiger. But what
can you take from this version of Tiger Woods? Tiger
is Tiger and Tig and Tiger plays exactly how he
is built to play, and so meaning what how is
he built? Meaning he so he's you know, six to
or whatever. He can bomb the ball and he plays

(01:20:53):
He plays his game and better than anyone else that
has maybe arguably ever played the game. And so what
I and take away from that is, I'm about to
use my name and third person here, Ryan Blom needs
to play Ryan Blom golf. And so no matter the circumstance,
no matter who I'm playing against, no matter who I'm
playing with, um, I need to he does that better

(01:21:13):
than anyone else. So that's what I'm gonna try to do.
Hey man, we wish you best of luck. We want
to see Blue and Red this Sunday. That would be amazing.
When yes, and we're gonna send your wife that tape
which is really uncoupable but awesome, and then you can
you can use it as like a voicemail message and
it will be it will be awesome. And then we'll
hopefully see in Minnesota at the Final four cheering on

(01:21:33):
your boys. Yeah man, never using that word again. Ryan
Blove joining us here on the Doug Got Leap Show.

This time we play for you a portion of a
previous show on Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports. Why don't
we call it? Say al right? Rye music. Summarize what
Clay Travis said earlier today, so we don't have enough
time to play the sound like we normally do. But
he is questioning Roger Goodell's role in this whole miscall
situation with the Rams and the Saints, basically saying, why
does he get paid all this money to not be

(01:23:00):
to come in and actually properly handle controversial situations regarding
the NFL Who actually really want to address this? I do,
I don't think I have enough time to do so,
but only point this one. Clay Travis is a hypocrite
for saying this. And to Clay Travis doesn't actually know
what the commissioner does. It's a lot like people who
don't know what the athletic director does at a school,

(01:23:21):
right they don't. I here's what I'm gonna do. I'm
gonna next hour, okay, next hour, I'm gonna will play
for you the sound. And I'll also expose Clay Travis
as a complete and total hypocrite because no, because listen,
he has said, Hey, the commissioner should get out of
the business of disciplining players. Okay, So he should get
out of the business and disciplined players, and he should

(01:23:42):
he should get into the business of officiating games. That's
the height of hypocrisy, right, What the commissioner actually does
I will explain and why he's worth more than he's
actually paid and he's only paid forty five million dollars
after bonuses. I'll explain all of that next hour plus,
we'll get you ready for golf season. And normally you'd

(01:24:04):
say like, and then you're like, what, um, Tiger Woods
won the Players Championship. You're like, oh, yeah, that's right,

led his group in the pro am Dan Buyer, Do
we have an update on how Tigers group finished behind us?

(01:24:48):
Behind us? Which is all that really matters? All that
really matters. Let's just let's just get right down to it.
We continue to be the leaders in the clubhouse. We're
here and what would be termed the nineteenth hole, it's
called the bar. We are in the shade, the shade,
and we're in the cold at the bar. It is
it is it, honestly, And this is if you're listening

(01:25:09):
to us in the Eastern seaboard or is a storm
coming to New England. If you're listening to us, you're
gonna say, you guys are the biggest woos Is ever
And we're gonna no and say yes, that's okay. Uh.
And it's gonna be seventy five and Sonny over the
weekend during the tournament and just glorious. And of course
we can see the Pacific Ocean. Uh. This is about
as picturesque setting as you're gonna find. I did a
rough estimate. I believe. I believe that these grounds are

(01:25:32):
worth somewhere in the two billion dollar neighborhood. I'm not kidding. Like,
do the math on how many acres there are? Actually,
Dan Buyer, can you look up how many acres make
up Tory Pines is the north and the south course,
and then we can quickly do the math on the
value my evaluation is it's worth about two billion dollars
to the city which owns this course. This is a

(01:25:54):
this is a a public a muni if you will,
and uh, the lodge is just behind us. Anyway, I've
said this to anyone who lives who lives anywhere, like
if you live in California, fifty degrees or fifty five
degrees and breezy is what fifteen degrees feels like in Chicago.
I was in Wisconsin this weekend. It was eighteen degrees
at game time of Wisconsin versus Michigan game. I called

(01:26:17):
on radio for a compass, and I feel colder now
than I did then, quite colder now than I did then. Anyway, UM,
we'll get the number. Do you have the number of
of of acres available? I'm getting text mess seven when
my evaluation is way way low. Then think about this. Okay,
So all this land abuts the Pacific Ocean. Let's say

(01:26:41):
there are seven ten useful acres. That's probably let's say
seven useful acres of land right in the state, in
in California, in San Diego. I would guestimate that every
acre is worth on average probably eight million dollars. Think
about it. Right. The dirt, Uh, the dirt in a
in a city that overlooks the water, good school system.

(01:27:04):
The dirt's worth for you know, a one eighth acre
piece of land is about a million dollars to build
a house. So you've got eight million dollars per acre.
What's eight million times seven hundred dan buyer, it's fifty
six billion dollars. Fifty six billion. I don't think that's

(01:27:26):
a crazy number, especially considering think about it, because some
of it, some of these you would have cliff side dwellings.
Cliff side dwellings. Now, look, there'd be some environmental stuff,
but quiff side dwellings, that dirt would be worth way more. Right,
an acre of land on where you're gonna put a
house that's worth thirty million dollars, overlooking the Pacific Ocean
is worth more. So it's a rough estimate, but I

(01:27:47):
would guess it's worth fifty billion dollars. That's what this
But that's what the land that we stand on is worth.
It's crazy, it's crazy, but if you stop and think
about it's not an unrealistic evaluation anyway. Uh. It it
feels cold here because we're in the shade that's it,
And yeah, I'm a wiss, but that's okay, I'm a wuss.
That will be in seventy five and sunny as soon
as I step into the sunshine where it's breezy. Tiger

(01:28:09):
Woods will play this weekend. And as Dan Buyer point out,
the most important thing you need to know about Tiger
was his pro am group finished behind us, which is
important because you can use his score, not his ball.
His score. Tiger could have helped them more at the
Part three, in other words, were better than Tiger Woods.
There you go. Um, I want to stop the nonsense

(01:28:29):
about with the Saints fans and even talented sports radio
hosts like Clay Travis discussing these ridiculous things about the
non call. Right, it's a blown no call. Really, not
a blown call, blown no call in the at the
end of the Saints Rams game. This is Clay Travis

(01:28:51):
earlier today on Outkicked the coverage here on Fox Sports
Radio Day three. The NFL still has not issued an
official response for their failure at the end of the
Saints and the Rams game that put the Rams into
the Super Bowl. Why have they not issued a statement?
Maybe it's because there are lawsuits filed in the state

(01:29:12):
of Louisiana. Maybe it's because the governor of the State
of Louisiana is sending a letter to Roger Goodell demanding
that there be some action undertaken, a response of some sort.
What is actually going on in NFL offices? I have
no idea, But this is why Roger Goodell, in my mind,
is one of the most overpaid people in the history

(01:29:33):
of sports. Because when everybody else is out there being proactive,
being responsive, being intelligent in the way that they respond
to controversy, Roger Goodell always seems to be left wanting
I did he wants Roger Goodell to somehow involve himself

(01:29:55):
in officiating, and yet Clay wants Roger Goodell to recuse
himself in regards to the personal discipline policy. Right that
that that's part of Clay's Clay's take, right, is that
Roger Condell should never have involved himself in disciplining players
for off the field actions or even on the field actions.
That thought the job of the commissioner. Neither is the

(01:30:16):
job of the commissioner to officiate games. Um here's the thing.
I don't believe that people actually know what the commissioner does,
just like I don't think because the commissioner is essentially
the athletic director. And people think the athletic director's sole
job is to have football coaches and basketball coaches win games.
And that's not their sole job. It's one of the
jobs that they do. But the biggest job that they

(01:30:38):
do as an athletic director is one, run the athletic
department and two make sure that people are giving donations
to that athletic department. They're gonna raise money, which is
essentially what Roger Condell does. If you think that Roger
Dale is not doing a good job, you're not paying attention.
YOU'RENNA paying attention. He and they invented Thursday night football,
all right. They said, oh, you know what we do,

(01:30:59):
We'll create a new window, a new revenue stream. Not
only did they do it, and they offered it up
where first CBS had it on their own. Then CBS
split it so they had two revenue streams. They split
it with NBC and oh yeah, by the way, it
kept his own network, the NFL network afloat because you
have to simulcast the games on the NFL network and

(01:31:22):
then some of those games are produced by for CBS
and NBC now Fox for the NFL network, and it
was it was genius. Oh yeah. By the way, after
both CBS and and n B uh CBS and NBC
lost money on Thursday Night Football, they got foxed by
this year's package and next year's package for more money

(01:31:44):
after they lost and they made it work. Oh yeah.
By the way, Fox also had the simulcast the games
on the NFL network and and broadcast some of the
games on the NFL network not on Fox. Oh he
moved two teams to Los Angeles, and the fee to
move a team to Los Angeles is five hundred million dollars.

(01:32:05):
Then he had the Raiders moved to Vegas another five
hundred million dollars. And oh yeah, by the way, you
remember that that lawsuit that was supposed to that that
was supposed to deplete the assets it was supposed to
be worth. Somehow, we're in the neighborhood of two billion
dollars for former players who have suffered from from traumatic
brain injury. They settled that thing for like seven hundred

(01:32:26):
million dollars in change, and and even even that is
an over evaluation. And look, the business of the NFL
is great. That's his job. That's his job. You know,
last year they had the NFL Draft on three different networks.
They've made the NFL Draft a thing in prime time.
All of that stuff has made the NFL more money

(01:32:47):
and made it more popular. That's his job. His job
is not to officiate games, nor is it to say
with or not a ref got it right, ref got
it wrong. We know they got it wrong. I didn't
make a play on the ball. Hit a guy a
little bit too. Really, it was actually a terrible pass,
and it was a terrible decision by Sean Payton not
to run the ball on first and second and third down.
Deplete the clock, deplete the time outs, kick a chip

(01:33:08):
shop field goal, get a stop, and then yeah, by
the way, even when you get it back in overtime, hey,
let's try and not have our our star quarterback who's
performing poorly, had the ball tipped and then the game
intercepted and lose the game. Remember, people are even saying, well,
you know, overtime. I don't like the overtime rules. I
don't think they make sense. I found the flaw to

(01:33:28):
them as soon as they were installed, right, we want
because the reason they were installed was people didn't like
sudden death. Sudden death still exists in the NFL unless
it doesn't. And you you can score and win the game,
but you have to make sure you score a touchdown
that makes that's trying to make everybody happy. All that said,
that's not Roger Goodell's job. It's not that's the UH.

(01:33:49):
They have the what's it called commission, the where they
have UH competition committee, excuse me, competition committee. That that's
whose decide decides it. Like this is a little bit
like blaming Trump for everything that's wrong in our country.
And there's plenty of things that are wrong. There's plenty
of things that he's done that you might disagree with.
But the fact that the l A teachers are on strike,

(01:34:10):
that's not Trump's job. It's just not. That's not under
his purview. Nor is it under his purview to officiate
or change outcomes of games. When oh, yeah, by the way,
there was a blown face mask call on the previous drive.
There's plenty of other blown calls, which if you follow
social media you can you can find that went against

(01:34:31):
the Rams. And even with that, the Saints still could
have gotten a stop and did get the ball back
at overtime, and all the complaining by Chiefs fans that
we should change the overtime rules because they didn't get
the ball. You also could have gotten to stop much
like the Rams did and then kicked the field goal
and won the football game. So I understand the whining
from fans, that's why they're fans. I even understand the

(01:34:53):
whining from government officials, because government officials only pretend like
they like sports when they think it will make them
are popular so that they can remain as government officials.
What I don't get a sports people not smartly pointing
out that this is kind of part of what sports is. Life.
Ain't fair kids, especially in sports. Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox

f I O nineteen. We are I'm always interested in this.
I'm interested in who America will kind of will cheer
for right, because what we do is we we build
people up. Oh, I'm seeing a look from Dan Buyer
as if we did not win the tournament. He's thinking,

(01:37:47):
we were very honest with our score and this is
a legit like professionally run pro am tournament buyer gave
me a look like we just got screwed a couple
of things. First of all, Tory Pines is on about
a hundred acres, so not seven acres. That was my
That's why I estimated. I estimated five billion dollars earlier.
Second billion, okay, So look now, but again this is

(01:38:11):
actually the math that I did when I was talking
with our caddy, which is okay, So the hundred acres
is a lot. One listen, here's here's the hundred okay,
so a hundred acres, right, and I believe like in California,
let's say conservatively you could make on a quarter a

(01:38:31):
quarter acre piece of land, but really ocean front property
in this area, an eighth of an acre is a
reasonable lot size for a really nice, uh two million
dollar house. Right. So if every if every acre, you
can build eight houses, that dirt, the dirt is worth
about eight million dollars, okay, eight million, So eight million

(01:38:56):
for each acre times a hundred okay, is what eight
hundred million dollars? Okay, So it's the worth eight hundred
million dollars. And that's a low end estimate because you're not.
We're not estimating the value of that same dirt overlooking
the ocean. Let's instead of saying it's worth fifty billion dollars,
let's can we agree on a billion dollars? Yeah, it

(01:39:18):
was about five point six We had a billion dollars
tweeting in I think it was Jacob. We said it's
about five point six billion. But yeah, that's the value
of it. That was what we were talking when we
were trying to do math on the floor. Were trying
to do math in fly was not good, like five
hundred and seventy three trillion dollars. Okay, so our math
is a little bit off. I would say it's all right.

(01:39:38):
So if I said it's worth a billion dollars, we're
okay there. Right, the land is worth a billion dollars.
That's still a billion with a B. Right, that's still
what three commas? Yet? You gotta know what that show is?
From three commas? Are you familiar with the three commas?
All right, we'll talk about from Billions? No, was it
was not from I just thought it was not from

(01:39:59):
from bill Millions. Although Billions is quite quite enjoyable. It's
Doug Gottlieb show. Um it is from UM Silicon Valley.
Have you seen Silicon Valley? No? I have not. Really,
you're a binge watcher. I watched the comment there's a
there's your next show? You can binge. I'm catching up
on Mama's Family right now. What is Mom's John Roma's

(01:40:21):
Family from like the eighties? I thought it wasn't okay?
You know what? You know what? What doesn't get the
respect it deserves as a really funny show. Night Court,
No one ever talks about night Court. Night Court was good,
got worse. It wasn't great, But I mean a lot
of those shows weren't great that people talk about. UM

(01:40:42):
All in the Family was amazing. Uh what what about
the program? What was the prom? Sorry? If he was
joining us, you were like, what, we're live here at
Farmer's Insurance Open. Dan Buyer and I played in the
program with Rodney Harrison from Bull with night Court UM
and with ct um bam ct pan. Who's our who's

(01:41:04):
the pro um? So? Anyway, how are we doing? Got
some good news and some bad news, And the good
news the bad news is that the land we're sitting
on is not where. The bad news is is that
we are not in first place. It is the Jason
Day group that was in first. The good news is
we are solo second right now at fifteen under par.

(01:41:27):
And the last time I checked, they giveaway trophies for
second place. I don't want trophies. I want I want
I want the money. I don't know if they give
away or do we get like a special like gift suite,
you know, right like you know, like the Bachelor has
the Fantasy Suite. Do they have the gift suite? Here
we go and get go in like remember that Nickelodeon
used to have where you could go into Toys r

(01:41:48):
US and you get a couple of minutes and you
just get as many toys you can. That's what I want, supermarket. Yes,
that's what I really want. Yeah. So we are in
second place with the score of fifty seven. That's fifth
team under par. Playing the South Course, we are alone
in second for the pro am with ct pan and
we absolutely gave it, left two birdies right there on

(01:42:08):
the just ridiculously bad putting and bad play left us
with two birdies on par fives. I do want to
share this story. One of the most scenic holes in
golf is the third hole at Tory Pine South Course.
It's part three. There's if you're lucky enough you can
see hang gliders. It's gorgeous hole. In today wolpins, we

(01:42:29):
had tales. We had two shots. One was within a
foot and another one was in three ft on that hole,
and it took us three puts to make the stupid putt, like,
but we finally got it in. But we this is
and then we finally made the putt. Yes, um, but
I mean, in fairness, the first put she was she
just kind of quick putting it because it was almost

(01:42:51):
like a good good Yeah, that's what we I lined
up and missed the putt because I overread the put
I'm like, oh that moved to left. So one I'm
and ago right edge and it went right edge right
like off off the green anyway, a little bit of
pace problem as well as reading the cream problem. Doug
Otlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio by or I'll
ask you how much different is the world this year

(01:43:12):
from last year? Like It's one of the great things
about doing this for a long time is how our
perspectives change. Um, And you know, last year there was
this exuberance over Tiger being back, but there wasn't expectations.
There was hope, but hope and and and lofty expectations
are two completely different things. I'll tell you what I

(01:43:33):
think is going to be interesting. And it's not trying
to to doubt Tiger and anything Tiger has done, because
there's there's no reason to What will be interesting is
it's similar to when a rock band is making their
way and they have all their good songs on their
first album, and it's how do they reload immediately after
that when the record company wants them to put out

(01:43:56):
three more albums? And so Tiger had a great year
yesterday last year, ramping up to last year and and
actually played better as the year one off. Just curious
to see on is there enough rest in the offseason
is he is he healthy enough? Is there going to
be any carryover from what you had that that is
going to be interesting. And as you touched on the

(01:44:16):
new schedule of the of the majors starting with a
p GA now in May, now you're gonna have four
straight months of big tournaments. Curious to see used to
have that gap between the masters and you can maybe
shut it down a little bit. You can play the players,
but you don't have to have a heavy schedule ramp
up for the U S Open. That'll be different because
now you've got four majors in a four month span. That, yeah,

(01:44:38):
we'll see. But you know, here's the thing. Last year
he was telling everybody, I'm getting close, and there was
still there's still a decent amount of people who were like, yeah, right,
you know, like that's Tiger, that's that's wishful thinking. No, no, no,
I'm getting close. You know, I'm trust me, I'm striking
the ball. Well, you know, I just didn't. I got

(01:45:00):
unlucky and I didn't put it well, and there were
lots of people rolling their eyes. And then all of
a sudden he wins the Player's Championship, and everybody's like, well,
you know, and after after competing well at a couple
of the majors, and and look there were majors where
you know, leading on a Sunday and or you know,
compete and competing on a Sunday. So I thought there
was a lot of rolling of the eyes early in

(01:45:22):
the year. But winning, you know, actually coming back in
winning and winning a legit big time tour championship ten
million dollars you um, you have to believe that his
own expectations and his own belief Like you can tell
all of us, hey, I'm getting close. I'm getting close.
I'm getting close. But until you actually do it. And

(01:45:43):
one of the great things about Tory Pines if you
can hear the jet going over our head. Okay, that's
from Miramar. That's top Gun. That's the real deal flying
over so off the I mean like this is you
don't get a better setting anywhere in the world in
this right, Like you look off the cliffs on the
South course and you can see you know, dolphins and
whales and hang gliders and find some of my golf balls.

(01:46:06):
And then you look up in the sky and you
can see jets coming from the top Gun. Folks, that's
a and you do not see clouds. That's a that's
a pretty cool day. Let me quickly get you an update.
Let's get back to Dan. Yeah, some news. First of all,
in the National Football League. Larry Fitzgerald back again a
one year deal with the Arizona Cardinals, so he is
going to play in and do so under first year

(01:46:29):
head coach Cliff Kingsbury. It'll be Fitzgerald's sixteenth season in
the National Football League Kansas City Chiefs are looking for
a new defensive coordinator. Could come in the form of
former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolo. According to espn is,
he could be the man to replace Bob Sutton in
Kansas City Cowboys what receepret cold Beasley try to clarify
his comments from yesterday when he said the Cowboys play

(01:46:50):
calling was pushed by the front office. Beasley, in a
tweet today said, all front offices dictate play calling in
the National Football League. Not sure if that's clarifying, but
that's what Cole Beasley tweeted earlier. How many front offices
he played, how many teams he played for? It? Yes,
so well. I love it when people who have played
for one team talk about what happens on every other
team and and act like that really helped his cause. Yeah,

(01:47:12):
I don't think that my boss is a jerk. Oh,
bosses are. Let me clarify, all bosses are jerks. There,
We're good. Everybody good? Now, Is that clarify? Like? Yeah, No,
not so much, not even a little bit. Brewers promoted
general manager David Sterns to the President of Baseball Operations,
titled and gave him an extension. David sterns, Yes, I

(01:47:32):
mean talk about the all time upset in terms of names. Right,
everybody thinks that the NBA performer, NBA commissioners walking through
that door. Different guy, much younger. I wonder if I'm
butter Visas says conflict oriented. By the way, can I
just go back real quick? Anytime somebody has to clarify
the remark, it usually is a sign that remark did
not go over. Well, yeah, there's never been this is

(01:47:53):
this is a this is one of my things, as
you guys know, which is no one asked for a
second opinion on good news. Mr Gottleby, don't have cans
or sorry, doc, I need a second opinion. No one
ever clarifies the mark, you know, on on something that
went over. Well, hey listen, I got I got you
rolling on that joke. I know. Let me clarify on
that joke. No, that never happens. The NFL network saying

(01:48:13):
Jimmy Garoppolo should be able to take part in O
t A S for the San Francisco forty Niners. That's
according to forty Niners General manager John Lynch will be
back to the Doug Gottlieb Show in ten seconds. But
first the word from farmers. From a dog accidentally flooding
a living room to a dog taking a joy ride,
we've covered it, talked to farmers. We know a thing
or two. Because we've seen a thing or two. We
are Farmers under written my Farmers dug fire insurance exchanges

(01:48:37):
and affiliates products unavailable in every state. That is part
of the brilliant marketing of Mike Linton, who's the chief
marketing officer of Farmers UH Farmers Group Incorporated. Um, okay,
give me the give me the craziest, craziest claim you've
ever heard. You know, there's a lot of claims that
we have. They my favorite, it's the dear, the dear

(01:48:58):
one where we have the uh deer's in the pool party.
I don't know that was the original one where we
have deers having a party in the pool with their
playing volleyball there in the hot tub. That really happened, well,
actually a couple of deer knocked over some pool equipment. Yeah,
we took a little creative liberty, creative liberty with it.
But but I will tell you that all those are

(01:49:18):
are crowdsourced from our great claims team and our agents.
So we start it's like the n C Double A tournament,
start with abouts. We get in from the field. We
narrowed down to about ten that are really good, and
then we end up kind of researching them a little
bit and shooting four to five. So they're all crowdsourced
from our own, our own employees, cement agents. Cement truck
in our house is laugh out loud. That's her dad

(01:49:41):
the the cement truck. And then the bird ends up
pooping on the cement that's in the car. That's like, yeah,
laughs out loud in our home. I just wonder if
there's somebody who's had any of these claims that's sitting
at home going that was us. That was what happened,
That really happened. They're calling up, Hey, Jimmy, you gotta
turn on the commercial. Did you see the farmers and

(01:50:02):
church person? They used like it was me? That was
that was absolutely me. Um, we were out here last year,
you tell me. I mean last year there was more
hope with Tiger. This year is there's more expectation with Tigers.
That fair. I think that's fair. I also will say
this is probably this is our tenth year doing this.
This is probably the best field we've had. Uh, and

(01:50:22):
we've had some really good fields. Best field maybe the
best weather we've had in the in the time I've
been here. So we're pretty excited for the head and
we love the military call you did. I had a
time and yeah, I do love you know, commercials. It is,
by the way, really cool. When you're sitting here, you're
going like, wow, that was a real top gun jet
that just when you were and you were in short

(01:50:43):
I played in these shorts. Yeah, this is suburban grit alright,
right when you go shorts, that is that's true toughness.
You know. Some people are like, yeah, listen, I I
worked third shifted and I I you know, I clean
out urinals, got leaves, got leaves, getting champion because he
worked shorts of the golf tournament. Tory pot I pressed.
I think it's awesome. I I appreciate that. Um uh yeah,

(01:51:06):
this is It's interesting the fantastic weather because I'm wondering
if you had the same thoughts last week when we
had end of days line up in two light up
in twos get on the arc rains in southern California. Yeah,
we were thinking if this had been a week earlier,
it would have been pretty bad. And you know, we've
had a couple of times where we've had a you know,
either a fog delay or a couple of years ago

(01:51:27):
we had a really bad storm that Brent Snedecker when
when that tournament but canceled play on Sunday, trees fell down.
We had to finish that Monday. Um, so we always
look at the weather and this last week we're thinking,
oh my gosh, it's like it's like pretty serious rain.
But now the course it's fantastic and there's no rain
in the forecast. I mean, it is absolutely the course.

(01:51:47):
I mean, obviously the South Course, if you know about it,
is incredibly picturesque. But you mentioned how fantastic by are
you we were talking about, I mean, of course conditions
at the Farmer's insurance. So I mean just we well,
first of all, we saw the rough enough. Yes, okay,
I heard that. I'm not saying, you know, I get
just get the rumors come in and there's just a
little bit on you It was no but everything ran

(01:52:10):
pure and there's so many little you know, tricks of
the trade, you know, oceans that way make sure that
it breaks. But everything was pure. It was I do
want to call it the Century Club, our partners here
for I think they're doing just a fabulous job on
the course. And yeah, and the North get better and
better after the you know redo a couple of years
ago that you know, it used to be where that

(01:52:32):
was okay, you get a shoot sixty one on the
North and then you're gonna get beat up by the South.
But now it was a little bit more challenged with
the North. I think they've really worked it pretty hard,
and you know, we we love them as partner. You know.
The other another thing that you guys do is something
with the first responders. Um as you Dan, obviously, how
you get your first responders p I took guy out
of my shirt and yeah, you know, he was supporting

(01:52:53):
the first responders. Now he is not supporting their So
don't say anything nice about him, but I will, Doug.
But you've been amazing. I just want to say, Dan,
I don't know what anyways. Uh No, the first responder
thing is a big deal for us because, um, you
know that disaster, uh preparedness is important. But then after

(01:53:14):
the disaster, man, the first responders are the first folks
in to to take care of everything and their claims.
Guys follow on. We've done a lot. We have first
responders actually catting on the fourteenth hole. I'm sure you
guys birdied that, but every birdie during the tournament will
put a thousand dollars towards call Fire, San Diego Fire,

(01:53:35):
San Diego Police, all the first responders that Actually it's
a hard job, it's a dangerous job. It's really an
important job, um, and we think the first responders do
it really well. And and speaking of you know, disaster
prep and disaster response, obviously, you know you have a
lot of your people are based not just in southern
California but up in the valley where they had just
those terrible, terrible fires that they're still recovering from. Yeah,

(01:53:57):
it was a tough year for for California, as you know,
from a disastrous at standpoint. And you know, we have
thousands of employees and many many agents that surely thousands
and thousands of customers in California. So it was it
was a pretty intense year. Very proud of our cat
response teams and our claims folks. Uh and also uh,

(01:54:19):
you know, we come in after after claims even and volunteer.
We have farmers volunteers that we've built houses in New Jersey,
in Joplin, and last year in Houston, you know, after
the hurricane there. And there's a great story going on
here which is the Gilbert family. I don't know if
you guys have seen that, but so Ricky Follower, our
Brandon Master was building a building a house in Houston

(01:54:39):
for the Gilberts. And it's a six year old Justin
Gilbert has a little heart condition. He's kind of adopted Ricky.
If you see him, he's running around here, he looks
like it's dressed out totally Ricky Followers. Yeah, he's he's
got the flat bill had, he's got it's got it
all going on, and he's kind of fearless and talking
to anybody. Anybody there. So their whole family is here.

(01:55:02):
Because the part about recovery possesster recovery is it's not
just the physical recovery, but that's also the emotional recovery
that goes on for all the families and the people
involved in it. That that's a pretty big deal. So, uh,
that's a nice little story out of what you know,
it was a pretty big. Yeah, there's there's something to
having an insurance provider that you can count on and

(01:55:22):
that understands that that emotional support. It's it's a little
bit like, um, you know, there's there's that room at
every airport where people who lose their bags, People who
lose their bags come in to report their bags and loss.
That person who works in that room is never good.
No one comes in and goes like, hey, just want
to tell you, thank you. No one ever says that, right,
No one ever calls their their claims that there, you know,

(01:55:44):
their local insurance guys like hey, just want you to
know everything's going great. Thank They only call you when
something's going wrong. And so it's a it's a very
different position to be and well, listen, I can only
tell you this. We love being out here and the
partnership with Farmers. Your people are all outstanding and in
it for the right reasons, right, that's the big thing, right,
Like everyone's in business, but are unit for the right

(01:56:04):
reasons and having their first responders and having other people
involved is amazing. And thank you so much for for
for allowing us to be part of it. Well, thanks
for being here, and I'm glad you guys had fun
this way. Second, we're in second, he's gonna tell everybody
you're right, So I'll wait, I'll wait the news. I'm
sure it's gonna be on the running on the bottom

(01:56:26):
line on Fox Sports one. It's like Dan Buyer, Doug Gottlieb. Second,
But Buck played at the South Course, which should have
like an asid like we should get. We should have
to get raided like it should we should we should
get with extra shots, shouldn't we? Sure it's burning up
on social Jason Day's group playing the North of the South.
You know, I don't know. That's that's that's that could come.

(01:56:48):
Insufficient reporting out of you, Dan Buyer. Insufficient by Michael
lenew Course is the chief marketing officer of Farmers Ink.
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show. We're broadcasting live from
the Farmer's Insurance Open at Tory Pines. We are farmers.
Those guys, those guys make all the money, right like
the chorus there, they make all that's that's who makes

(01:57:08):
really the lout in this thing. We've had a tremendous
day at Torrey Pines, a ton of going on the
rule of sports hitch up with the press. I'm coming next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Doug Dot
Leaps Show week days at noon eastern three pm Pacific.
From a heart able loot landing on a car to
a load of concrete falling on one, we've covered it.
Talk to farmers. We know a thing or two. Because
we've seen a thing or two. We are Farmers under

(01:57:32):
written my Farmers Truck Fire Insurance exchanges and affiliates proucts

Doug got Leap Show. We're broadcasting live from the Farmers
Insurance Open at Tory Pines in San Diego. We are
every day. This time, we'd like to get you caught
up on all these stories of the day, including the
latest in who is winning the program here at the

(01:58:15):
Farmer's Insurance Open. Because Dan Byron needs another trophy for
his trophy case, and he's heard that the top three
finishers get a trophy of some kind. Uh, there's no
participation trophies that I'm aware of. Well, let's get to
dan with the press. The press. By the way, if
if we do end up placing seconds, I want this

(01:58:36):
on my Wikipedia stub. It's not a full page, it's
just a stub. But I would like like that. I
would do that. I would take that too, you know,
I take that to put that under accomplishments. Accomplishments Seconds
twenty nineteen Farmers Insurance pro Am. I like that. All right. Uh,
we could be like a tannem We could go around
the country playing in these proms. Right. That would be
a great job. That would be a good job. A

(01:58:58):
good job, right, that's like, that's like one of those jobs.
It's even better than the guy who who sits in
seats at the oscars. You know, when somebody gets up,
they go in their seat fillers. Here's here's the deal.
We're gonna you're gonna travel around the country and you're
gonna have to play golf. But here's the catch. At
the world's greatest courses. Okay, sure, let's do go. You're
gonna have to leave the most important hole so that

(01:59:22):
we can we can get a ringer in there. I
tried to give you a ringer. My caddy is a
plus one. I'm like, let him in my shots, then
I'll let you. We were alternating then on who would
get the second shot. And we got to the ninth tea,
which is a par five, and I hit the first one,
of course left and out of bounds, and then Rodney
Harrison comes up and it hits it like three ten.

(01:59:42):
I don't even bother to use my turn to hit again,
because what was the point. I wasn't gonna top it.
We were in the fairway. We're already good. So you
have another shot in your back pocket. I believe we
can use that for our score winner. Let's cash it in,
all right? If we touched on this a little bit earlier,
but Cowpoys watch re sever cold Beasley trying to clarify
his comments. I want to read his whole tweets that
he said. This all started when he said that the

(02:00:04):
play calling for the Cowboys was pushed by the front office.
This was in response to the dismissal of Scott land Anne.
This was Beasley's tweet today quote some are misunderstanding my point.
Every team's game plan in pro sports is dictated by
the front office. Big free agent additions, high draft picks, etcetera.
Are going to get the most opportunities. I'm not mad

(02:00:24):
at that, l O L. I just want to help
my team win. All good players want the rock and tweet.
I do think that most that many teams, many teams
are influenced by draft picks. I don't say, wouldn't say all,
especially when you haven't played for any other team. I
would also tell you that I don't think the game

(02:00:44):
plan from the New England Patriots was dictated by the
fact that he took Sony Michelle in the first round.
To you, no, no, no, Like, look, that's that. I
guess that's the difference in the Patriots and everybody else.
Maybe that shows the dysfunction within the Cowboys, which was,
by the way, the reason he put the tweet out. Like, look,
anytime you clarify a tweet, you're not actually helping your cause,

(02:01:05):
you're admitting that your first tweet went over really, really poorly.
Has there ever been a Cowboy game where we lost
and on Monday you came in and said they didn't
get it to Beasley enough. How come they didn't get
to gold Beasley said before? You know, but they didn't
get to cool Beasy because he wasn't drafting. Why that's
why they didn't get to cool Beasley. I guarantee you
probably said, Well, they kept on throwing at the cold Beasley,
so that's why they lost. No, I'm just kidding, but

(02:01:27):
he's not your first Tome. I like Cold Beasley a lot.
I just you know, it's one of those like yeah,
my bad, you just go like, yeah, you know, sorry, Yeah,
his his role is to find like like West Welton
had his role. Okay, Like really that's what it is,
all right. Larry Fitzgerald back for season number one to three,
F seven, nine to sixteen for number eleven in Arizona.

(02:01:50):
I love Larry Fitzgerald. Everyone knows that if he wants to,
he'll be a TV analyst. The second that he decides
to not play football anymore, he may have bigger things
on his played could be up. Some people think he
could be on the Senior Tour. You know, get ready
to play golf for a living. He's that good of
an athlete. I will tell you this. He is not
a very good wide receiver anymore. Right, he's he's reached

(02:02:13):
a little bit of the hindes ward category where he's
getting so much respect for blocking. Right, And when you
tell me that a guy is a great blocker as
a wide receiver, you're it's like telling me, hey, how
does she look? Oh, she's got a great personality. Um,
when when you're getting set up on a blind date,
I mean it's when you're a wide receiver, can you
get open and catch the football? And he's a guy

(02:02:36):
that they've had to hide four years. Is he still
a leader? Sure? Sure? Can he still make plays, especially
inside the numbers? Yes, And they can find mismatches for him,
and he probably is hopeful that he can have a
rebound season. Like Look, they're bad this year and he
wasn't able to get open this year. So he's part

(02:02:56):
of the problem, and I hope he's part of the solution.
I just I do think that because he's such a
good guy, because he's so bright and so talented, he's
had a first ballot Hall of Fame career, we think
he's still that same guy. And he's not the referee
crew that or at the NFC championship in New Orleans
reportedly received threats after the game, and at one point
a sheriff had to pick up a phone to tell

(02:03:17):
the harassing caller to stop calling. The referee crew then
were moved to another hotel in suburban New Orleans. Who
answers the hotel phone anyway? Right? When was the last
time you used a hotel phone other than to call
for a wake up call? And even if you did, like,
you couldn't set your your phone to be your alarm.
That's one of those things. Like the phone's ringing? Like,

(02:03:37):
who's calling me? I don't know, don't answer it again.
I'm not saying it's okay to make threats, right in
order to threaten an official who made a mistake, they
didn't mean to make a mistake, to make a mistake.
But the and so threat guy should not be let
off the off the um she should not be let
off the hook. But what are you doing picking up who? Like?

(02:03:58):
I don't even a room, Plevanovich's room. I'll transfer you,
but I'm sorry, who's calling? Right? When was the last
time you use the landline music? I tell you it's
been a while. Yeah, that's amazing, right, Like you only
like they still have it. Did they still charge like

(02:04:19):
fifty cents a call in cents ever after every call,
uh long distance call when you're in a hotel room
like they used to. That's like one of the all
time shakedowns. Ever. Yeah, right, like, oh, we're gonna charge
you for long distance calling, like you could only call
room to room. By the way, you hear that sound,
that was the sound that we made rocketing up the
leaderboard today. Oh, I had good news for the Pelicans.

(02:04:41):
Anthony Davis could return next week, according to ESPN, from
his finger fracture will be reevaluated in a couple of days. Yeah,
if they tell me has to stay there through his contract,
there's gonna be another finger that's gonna be stuck up
at the New Orleans Pelicans. Hey, let's let's end it
with this, okay. According to fan Crab and the MLB
networ John Hayman, the San Diego Padres have checked in

(02:05:04):
on Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. I just wanna check
in on you guys. You guys still alive. You're good, good.
We got a bunch of young players and Mike mustakas interested.
I assume they're gonna hit her on Will Myers, right,
that's that's that, and that and that he's out there

(02:05:24):
and pressed that the press. A longtime menophone insider Edward
Or joins the show tomorrow and we'll find out the
NFL is gonna change replay. I told you this about
changing replay, like I get that. Everybody wants something better, right,
You want something better for your children than you did
for yourself. We all are in this pursuit of perfection.
We want a better job, we want a better house,

(02:05:45):
I want a better car. But this search for perfection,
it doesn't exist. And there is a law of unintended consequences.
And if the intended consequences is we don't have missed calls,
there is no sport there are almost there are no misscalls.
Even tennis that has cyclops, right, how good is cyclops?

(02:06:05):
Where like instantaneous reviews like oh, even tennis still screws
up calls, let alone football played by ridiculously athletic men
hitting each other on bang Bang plays. Doug Otlip Show.
